when I was watching agents of shield for the first time, I wasn’t aware of my queerness and I didn’t think much about any relashionships in the show, platonic or romantic.

Why am I starting a Grant Ward fic 8 years too late? Like, that ship has sailed. So long ago. Agents of SHIELD ended three years ago and Ward's character is mainly in seasons 1 and 2 - of SEVEN seasons! (Spoilers, I guess)
Yet here I am, rewatching it with my mom (who's watching it for the first time) and I am compelled to write a fic of a character interacting with Ward when he's still at the Academy. A whole novel's worth of interacting!
Bobbi Morse and Antoine Triplett are here too, so yay. Also Natasha Romanov, May, and Coulson pop in to check on the trainees....so yeah.
I know when I eventually post it, it'll get like, 3 views since it's not exactly a current thing, but hey, when inspiration strikes, ya know?

Okay now Legacies 4x19 you did everything I expected. I had brief scream before MG was resurrected, but I’m good, he’s back now, there weren't even tears or tension in my shoulders.
I mean it’s not like The Originals 3x22, where I stared at my screen, tense and fearful, for the Miakelsons. Where as Marcel drove the blade into Klaus’s chest and the music played as the Mikaelson’s fell asleep I was literally crushing a pillow in my hands.
It’s not like The Vampire Diaries 5x22 where the fear of if everyone would escape, and the fact that Bonnie and Damon don’t, had me genuinely worried.
There was no tension in Legacies 4x19, none at all. I felt nothing. Sure, I was a bit scared for a few fleeting seconds, but I rewatch The Originals 3x22 when I want to feel masterful tension.
Legacies 4x19 failed to even make a fight with the gods! feel tense! The fucking gods! Ken had a weapon that could kill Hope! A proper Tribrid killing weapon! And I felt no fear that she was going to die. I haven’t felt that fear all season.
Why? because of the fucking afterlife plot! Now I will never complain about afterlife when it comes to things like resurrecting MG or whatever could happen in the final with Klaus and Caroline. But as someone who appreciates a well crafted TV episode and the tension of character deaths, I have issues with the afterlife plot.
I had no fear, because no matter what, no matter who dies, they’ll come back. We just know this. There's no question that if Landon can send people back he will. Going into 4x19 I had no fear whatsoever. There was literally no tension when anyone died. When Alaric killed Jed I literally said “Oh, Jed is dead, I don’t care”. Even MG, one of my favorite characters, I didn’t even cry!
To compare, when Agents of Shield killed Leopold Fitz, even though he could easily come back because time travel crap, I felt the tension and the fear! I sobbed and screamed and was literally told ‘be quiet, the neighbors will think your being murdered’. Fitz could come back, I knew this, but the shock value of his death, the build up, and the tension, and the fucking Emmy worth performance of Iain built up the scene so well that I forgot he could so easily be brought back to life.
That, that right there is the problem I have. Legacies has done this time and time again! Death has no meaning in Legacies. Not like with The Vampire Diaries, or even the Originals, both shows that resurrected someone every ten episodes on average. No one important in those shows, apart from Caroline Forbes, has technically died less than once. People come back all the time! How many times did Alaric or Kol die? How many times did Esther fucking Mikaelson come back from the dead! Damon! Bonnie! Elijah even! Hell, Katherine came back as queen of hell!
It's not like the TVDU doesn’t have a history of this, but the difference, is The Vampire Diaries and The Originals spent the time to build the tension and the standard. You knew, if someone came back to life, there would be real proper consequences, or even if they could, they might not for other reasons.
When Kol came back in season 3 of The Originals, Finn came back too, and the ancestors had control of Kol’s blood lust. The resurrection has a consequence, it has tension and stakes.
Similarly in Vampire Diaries, when Bonnie brings Jeremy back in season 4, she dies as a result. Consequences and tension. You’re worried, you’re tense.
Both of these, and many other instances show the blatant problem Legacies runs into every episode of the entire show, the tension and stakes are insanely low. So low, when characters I adore die in front of their true love I don’t even shed a tear. So low, barely ten minutes later every dead character is back alive and I feel cheated out of a major character death.

Not So Bad
Pairings: Avengers!Reader x Daniel Sousa, Steve x Bucky (mentioned briefly)
Summary: What happens when Tony and Natasha don’t die in the final battle with Thanos? Steve’s boyfriend has been returned from the dust and all his friends are alive and well. He has very little to gain from going back in time and everything to lose, so you volunteer to return the stones. Everything was going swimmingly until a Pym Particle malfunction left you stranded in 1949 with little hope of return. You seek out Howard Stark, hoping he’ll be able to come up with a solution to get you back. However, the longer you remain stranded, the more you start to realize maybe the past isn’t so bad after all.
Word Count: 2.6K
Warnings: mild swearing, slight fear of needles/experimentation.
A/N: Rewatching Agent Carter and the new season of Agents of SHIELD have me on a high Sousa high but I’ve noticed there aren’t many Sousa x Reader fics on this site so I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands. Let me know if I should write a part 2!
Sequel
___
“Shit,” you gasped, frantically hitting the device on your wrist. “Shit shit shit shit.”
You were standing in a supply closet though you were supposed to be standing in Tony’s yard, surrounded by the rest of the Avengers team as you celebrate the defeat of Thanos and saving the world one more time. The party was also doubling as Steve’s retirement party; he was finally passing the shield and title of Captain America to Sam and settling down with Bucky. Your travels to return the Infinity Stones had left you famished and you were craving a slice of celebratory cake but there you were, stuck in a 1940s supply closet.
“Damn you, Scott Lang,” you cursed under your breath once you realized the device wouldn’t be sending you back to the present (or is it technically the future?) anytime soon.
You let your back slide down the wall, resting on the floor as you wracked your brain for a solution. Lord knows you weren’t qualified to tinker with the device, all this time travel stuff hurt your head when you thought about it too much. The only people who knew what they were doing were Scott and Tony and they were still in the present, probably slicing into that delicious cake right now…
Your stomach rumbled and you groaned. “Damn you, Stark.”
Then it hit you.
“Oh my gosh! Stark!” You shouted your epiphany before remembering where you were and slapping a hand over your own mouth, only removing it once you were sure no one had heard you.
At least you had your solution. Find Howard Stark, fix the device, return to the present (future?), eat some food.
Your stomach rumbled again. Maybe food should be higher on your to-do list.
___
You were kinda surprised when you didn’t cry upon learning that Howard Stark’s jet had just left for Los Angeles. You were stranded in Camp Lehigh, 74 years into the past, and your one shot at getting back just flew across the country.
Alright, new objective: find Peggy Carter, surely she could get you to LA. Of course, you’d have to find a way to convince her to help you without destroying the timeline. You’ll also have to figure out how to get Howard’s help without telling him you’re a time-traveler and without giving him the ability to recreate the device. Holy shit you were never going to get home.
You were so caught up in your own mind that you weren’t paying attention to where you were going until you were abruptly knocked over.
“Oh my gosh, are you alright?” A concerned voice rang out above you and you looked up to see a hand reaching out to help you up. A hand that was attached to an extremely attractive dark-haired man.
You took the hand, allowing the man to help you off the floor as you apologized, “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying any attention!”
“That’s alright, I wasn’t either.” He said, head tilted down in embarrassment.
The pair of you lingered awkwardly, neither showing any intention of carrying on your separate ways. Finally, the man broke the silence.
“Um, can I help you at all?” He asked, cheeks flushing slightly as he met your eyes for the first time.
“Uh, yeah, actually.” You responded, your voice suddenly becoming inexplicably quiet. “I’m looking for Howard Stark?”
No, you idiot! You cursed yourself, you know where Howard is! You’re looking for Peggy Carter.
“You just missed him.” The man gave you a sad chuckle. “His plane just took off for LA.”
“Shit.” You cursed, trying to channel your frustrations into accurately faking a reaction to bad news you had already received. It wasn’t until you saw the look on the man’s face that you remembered where, or rather when, you were. “Aw hell, don’t tell me you’re one of those guys who thinks it’s inappropriate for women to curse?”
Wow, y/n you’re really nailing it with the first impressions here.
“N-not at all,” The man’s eyes were blown wide as he stumbled to explain himself. “I’d be damned if I thought women weren’t fit to do anything a man could. You just don’t hear many women cursing around here, is all.”
You peered at him curiously, head tilted slightly as you did so. He wasn’t at all what you had expected from the time period.
“Any chance you could direct me to Agent Carter’s office?” You finally spoke, changing the subject, needing to get back on mission. “If Stark forgot my meeting then I’ll have to find a way to LA, I figure Agent Carter’s my best bet.”
You knew making up an appointment with Stark was going to bite you in the ass later when he didn’t know who you were but you decided you’d cross that bridge when you came to it. Right now, you needed to get to Stark as quickly as possible and this seemed like the best way to do it.
“Oh, I was actually headed there myself. I’ll walk you.” The man offered and you smiled gratefully, following him down the hallway, past your supply closet before finally reaching a door that said “Director Peggy Carter.”
“After you,” the man said kindly, holding the door open for you and you stepped into the office.
You’d seen pictures of Peggy Carter. Of course you had, nobody made it through the World War II section of their history class without seeing at least one picture of Peggy Carter, and well, you worked with Steve so you’d seen plenty of other pictures as well. But Carter was much more stunning in person and no picture could capture the way she held a room.
“Daniel, it’s good to see you,” You assumed she was greeting the man now stood beside you as you never got his name. “Who’s this?”
“Oh, uh…” Daniel trailed off, seeming to only just realize he hadn’t gotten your name either.
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you answered, saving the man from fumbling any longer.
“Are you new to base, Agent Y/L/N?” Carter asked, looking at you as if she was trying to remember you but was coming up blank.
“Oh, I’m not an agent,” you corrected before you could stop yourself. You were on a secure SHIELD base and you just told the director that you weren’t an agent, it sounded suspicious even to you.
“Then what are you doing on my base?” She asked, tone direct but not harsh.
“I was supposed to be meeting Mr. Stark for an, uh, appointment?” Your hesitation to commit to your flimsy cover was clearly interpreted as something else as Carter’s gaze became stern.
“An ‘appointment’?” Her lips pursed as she repeated your excuse and you winced. “Well Miss Y/L/N, Howard Stark is no longer here, in fact, he’s no longer in this state and I have no intention of letting one of his women running around my base.”
Oh my god.
You couldn’t help the flush that erupted under your skin at the implication.
“Oh, no, ma’am.” You began to correct her before you could become any more embarrassed. “It’s a strictly professional appointment. He wanted to, uh, run some tests?”
This time your embarrassment saved your poor excuse of a cover story. You really needed to actually come up with something rather than making it up as you went, you were going to get caught.
“Tests for what?” You could tell this was her own curiosities shining through, as everyone in the room knew it was none of their business what Stark was going to “test” you for, but well, you could exactly plead the fifth now. Especially not when Peggy Carter though you were a call girl.
“It’s uh, it’s a bit personal ma’am,” you said softly, hoping to dissuade her from pressing further but she just raised her eyebrows as if to say “go on.” You glanced at the man on your left, really not wanting to say this in front of more people than necessary. Carter seemed to notice your reluctance and pursed her lips once more,
“Miss Y/L/N, Agent Sousa is the head of our West Coast division and your best chance at getting to Los Angeles. Whatever you have to say, you say to both of us.”
You sighed, wondering if what you were about to do was worth it but you couldn’t think of any other reasonable excuse so you started talking.
“Well, ma’am, I sorta... levitate.” You practically whispered the last word, as if it was deeply offensive.
It wasn’t a lie per se, you could levitate but you could do much more than just that. You could fly and you could also turn invisible but you decided to leave all that out, sticking with an ability that could be perceived as an anomaly. Something that would greatly interest a man like Howard Stark.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m not quite sure how, ma’am.” You played into the anomaly angle, hoping they’d buy it. “It just happens sometimes and I can’t control it.”
“Daniel, Miss Y/L/N will be joining you on your flight to LA,” Carter informed the man and he readily nodded. It seemed you had a convincing cover after all. You made a mental note to thank Nat for all those espionage classes when you get back home.
___
“I’m just going to take a blood sample and then you’re free to go,” Howard said and you winced. You weren’t a fan of needles, especially when it came to learning about your abilities; you had gone through enough of that in your life already, but here you were subjecting yourself to the experiments once again. You had to keep reminding yourself that it was for the mission.
To his credit, Daniel Sousa had not left your side since you met at Camp Lehigh. At first, it had been cumbersome, as you were unable to ask Howard for help with your actual problem. But now you were thankful for his presence, it had become something of a comfort through all your stress and anxieties over your current situation.
It seemed as though Sousa could sense your discomfort, reaching out a hand as Howard prepped the needle. You took it gladly, squeezing tight enough for the man to groan slightly and catch Howard’s attention.
You thought you heard him mutter “cute” and you blushed slightly before he stuck you with the needle and all your attention went back to squeezing the life out of Sousa’s hand, clenching your eyes shut in a failed attempt to pretend none of this was real.
You let out a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding when Howard removed the needle, though it took you a few moments longer to let go of Sousa’s hand, almost having forgotten you were holding it in the first place. You muttered a quiet apology when you saw him massaging his hand but he merely smiled at you as if to say you had nothing to be sorry about.
“That’s all I need from you today Miss Y/L/N,” Howard spoke cheerfully, pulling off his gloves and jotting something down on a clipboard. “If you don’t mind, though, I’d like to have you come back tomorrow for a few more tests.”
You shuddered at the idea but nodded anyway but Sousa ran a hand down half his face in what you weren’t sure was tiredness or frustration.
“Stark, it’s four a.m.,” He sighed as if he was used to Stark’s night-owl tendencies. “Surely you don’t expect her to be back here in a few hours after you already forced her to pull an all-nighter for your tests.”
You couldn’t stop your heart from swelling at the man’s words. It had been a long time since you had felt so seen by another person and though you could take care of yourself, it was nice to have someone stick up for you.
“Well, what do you know, it is.” Stark mused thoughtfully, “I never can keep track of time when my mind’s on a project.” He trailed off then as he thought. The silence was a bit alarming, Howard had barely stopped talking long enough to breathe since you had arrived.
“Very well, Miss Y/L/N, take tomorrow- or I suppose, today- off and come back the next day. I should have your blood sample analyzed by then too, which’ll give us something more to go off of.”
You nodded, equal parts relieved and anxious. You were thankful for a test-free day however that meant it would be another twenty-four hours until you could talk to Stark about fixing his son’s time travel device. But for the time being you let Sousa drive you back to his place where he insisted on making up the sofa bed for you without any help.
Your heart warmed as you watched the man do everything in his power to make sure you were comfortable. You had known each other for less than a day but already he had opened up his home to you. You couldn’t help the flutter in your stomach as you watched him limp around the house gathering bedding and anything else you might need while repeatedly shooting down your offers to help out. It felt nice to be taken care of for once.
“I’ll talk to Rose tomorrow about getting you some other clothes,” you didn’t know who Rose was but you knew Daniel Sousa, head of the West Coast division of SHIELD, didn’t need to be concerning himself with getting some rando new clothes and yet there he was, already making plans to do just that. “But for now, I hope these work.” He looked away shyly as he offered some of his own clothing up to you.
You muttered a shy “thank you” of your own as you accepted the T-shirt and pair of sweatpants.
“Bathroom’s right down the hall, towels are in the closet if you want to shower.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck as he nodded in the direction of the bathroom.
“Thank you, Agent Sousa.” You said sincerely.
“You’re staying in my house, I think you can call me Daniel.” He corrected with a small smile.
“Alright then, thank you, Daniel.”
You padded down the hall to the bathroom, borrowed clothing clutched in your arms. It felt nice to step under the warm water. While it would only be a few seconds for your team, returning the Infinity Stones had taken quite a bit of time and though your mission was far from over, you were grateful for a moment to relax. You left the bathroom feeling, and smelling, like a whole new person. You weren’t sure, but you thought you saw Daniel’s face redden when you reentered the living room in his clothes before he ducked his head, hiding his face from your view.
“Do you need anything else Miss Y/L/N?” Daniel asked as you gingerly sat on the edge of the sofa bed.
“I’m staying in your house, I think you can call me Y/N.” You grinned as you parroted back his words from earlier and he laughed warmly.
“Well, try and get as much sleep as you can, Y/N, and we’ll worry about everything else once we’re rested.” He smiled reassuringly, as though sensing how lost you felt though not knowing just how lost you truly were. “I’ll be at the end of the hall if you need anything.”
You nodded with an appreciative smile before exchanging quiet goodnights. You watched Daniel make his way down the hall to his bedroom and close the door before you laid down yourself. The sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable and you suddenly realized how truly exhausted you were. As you laid in the dark on a stranger’s bed in a stranger’s home in a strange time you thought back through the events of the last twenty-four hours and your stomach erupted into butterflies again when your thoughts landed on a certain handsome, dark-haired agent.
The last thought you had before drifting off to sleep was ‘maybe the past isn’t so bad.’

Who I Write for
Hello! Here's a list of what fandoms I write for and a very honest list of who I write for in that fandom, some of which will have all characters and some of which will have specifics as I'm either new to fandom or just really really love those characters the most.
My inbox is ofc always open so if you're unsure please feel free to drop and ask to be sure ☺️
* I do normally write a NB!reader (non-binary) or GN!reader (gender neutral) or reader with the hint of said reader being female, it's also worth noting that I only write romantic storylines for female characters, I will write for male characters but it's always platonic*
- THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED PERIODICALLY-
• Marvel
All characters from the MCU
All characters from other Marvel films such as: Deadpool, Fantastic Four, X-Men
All characters from the following Marvel TV Shows: Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Runaways, Jessica Jones, WandaVision
be sure to ask if you're unsure, I write mostly for the MCU and Marvel TV shows however there are some comic characters I do adore and will happily slip them in.
•DC
All characters for the DC films
All characters from the DC TV shows such as: Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Flash, Black Lighting, Lucifer, Gotham, Krypton (season 1)
be sure to ask if you're unsure- I write mostly for the DC films however there are some comic characters that I love and adore so I will slip them in- I'm also aware that some of the animated series has characters not yet established on the big screen yet that I also will write for
• Law and Order: SVU
All characters: specifically Casey Novak, Olivia Benson and Amanda Rollins since those three are my absolute favourites
* I have yet to catch up from season 19 onwards so I may not be familiar with your character but I will either pass you onto some great blogs that can provide you with the content or will keep it on the back burner for when I have caught up
• Riverdale
All characters
• Brooklyn Nine Nine

GRACE I have begun watching Agents of Shield and I’m only on episode two but the dynamics are shaping up to be really fun and Coulson has my whole heart, and I’m pretty sure Melinda May is swiftly following, and it’s?? About the value of every human life?? “Nobody’s nobody”?? Demanding the option that doesn’t let you just use people at your convenience?? (I also think it might have some interesting commentary on the duty of truth and love?) VERY EXCITED
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH YES YES YES!!! I’m so excited for you!!! And you’re right, it’s constantly about the value of the individual just because they’re human. A lot of the villains as far as I can remember are all about the Greater Good and throughout there’s this constant focus on how sure, the greater good might be ultimately greater, but here and now it’s hurting INDIVIDUALS, and that means it has to be stopped, because they’re PEOPLE and they’re worth EVERYTHING.
Minor spoilers, but later on a lot of super-powered people start turning up (which I’m ok with telling you because it is a marvel show, that’s not unexpected), and there’s so much focus on how the people without superpowers deserve just as much as those with, and fundamentally how the superpowered people would not be able to live without the powerless. I mean, the very fact it’s about Coulson makes it about this, because he’s the non-powered support in the films.
Anyway, I’m rambling now. I’m SO HAPPY you love Coulson and May. May really is the best!!! And she’s got such a wonderful character arc, it’s so well-written and KIND and it’s about opening up and LOVE and I just care for her so much. I hope you also like Fitzsimmons, I love them so much. And you’ll get a few more characters in the later seasons who are WONDERFUL.
Also, the thing about duty of truth and love, I would love to hear your thoughts on that when you’ve watched more of it! I personally think that out of most modern superhero stories, this Understands love the most, because it gets that with love there comes responsibilities. Fore example, Skye’s whole thing is freedom and independence at the beginning, isn’t it, but the whole point of love is that it restricts you from utter independence in that it constrains you to act well towards and stick with the people you love. Ultimately, love is a heavy tie, but it’s WORTH IT because the people around you do it for you too. That’s a big theme. But also, it Understands that we all have a duty TO love, to love everyone as much as well can, and that is ultimately the only thing that can save anyone (and again that goes back to the care for the individual thing: the Greater Good never loves).
I will shut up now, but it’s just such a wonderful show. I haven’t watched much of it in two years, I really do need to rewatch it again. I’m so excited for you to watch it!!!!!!!!!!

List 5 TV shows make you feel better, then tag 10 other blogs
I was tagged by @famousflowermagazine - thanks so much for the tag, and sorry it took me so long to get to this, lol.
1. The Good Place
My ultimate feel-good show; the one I can and do come back to over and over when I’m feeling down in the dumps - and it never fails to cheer me up.
2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Sometimes you just need to laugh, and nothing is funnier - or sweeter - than B99.
3. New Girl
Awwwww, well, this show is basically the definition of a comfort show - F.R.I.E.N.D.S., but better.
4. Ab Fab
Sometimes you need to laugh, sometimes you need to cry.... aaand sometimes you just need something truly dumb.
5. Agents of SHIELD
Some of you may be wondering, but wait, why is AoS last on the list of five?? Shouldn’t it be first?? It is, after all, my favourite show in the world, and I make no secret of that.
But the thing is, much as I truly adore AoS... they really, really do torture their poor characters. This gif, for example, looks completely innocent and domestic at a moment’s glance, but in reality, this is moments before the main cast gets sucked up into a time-bending space rock and taken to a dystopian future where one of them is thought to have destroyed the world. Oh, and the nice guy on the right gets left behind. (Yeah... it’s better not to ask.)
With that said, I do have a list of feel-good episodes that I’ll come back to and watch over and over, ‘cause when all is said and done, this is my favourite show in the entire world, and it does make me happier than pretty much anything else, lol. So here goes:
1x01 - Pilot. The one that started it all, and the one that always gives me SUCH nostalgia because LOOK AT HOW SMALL THEY ALL WERE AHLFLSDHFLSDHFLSJF 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Actually that goes for pretty much the entire first half of season 1 alskfdjadlkfjlkdsjfksf 😍😍😍
Okay I know I said an episode list but... most of season 2. It’s my favourite season because it’s already so damn good, plus there’s not AS much trauma yet I mean there’s a lot but whooo baby wait for season 4, plus Huntingbird, plus DAISY, plus general The Team Being A Family which I LOVE and can never get enough of.
Special props to The Scene in 2x10, which I have saved onto its own YouTube playlist for sheer awesomeness.
3x08, Many Heads, One Tale. This is just such a COOL episode, and I personally love it because (a) STATICQUAKE BEING PLAYFUL AND FLIRTY!! (b) HUNTER AND BOBBI BEING SARCASTIC AND HILARIOUS ON MISSIONS and, of course, the FITZSIMMONS KISS!!!!!!!
3x11, Bouncing Back. Tied with Rewind, this is probably my single favourite episode - because all the best characters are there, being badass and hilarious together, and there’s not too much pain. Plus, literally ALL my favourite couples end it on a good place - Fitzsimmons start over and do an adorable fist bump, Coulson and May share a drink, Staticquake kiss and flirt and Mackelena flirt (and are teased by Daisy and Joey.) Basically it’s just the BEST and probably the episode I’ve rewatched the most, lol.
Season 4 is awesome but basically just angst, so no feel-good rewatch moments there, lol. Except maybe Daisy quaking AIDA out of the window. That NEVER gets old, ahahaha.
5x05, Rewind. Oh, this episode is SUCH a fan favourite, but with such good reason!! H U N T E R, everyone. Fitz and Hunter. Enough said.
5x06, Fun & Games. Well, okay, it wasn’t exactly fun and games, but it had Daisy being badass and a Fitzsimmons proposal and that’s honestly all anyone could ask for.
5x12, The Real Deal. Come on, this episode is the BEST. I mean, yes, it’s truly heartbreaking when everyone finds out about Coulson, but the WEDDING makes up for it every. single. time. The WEDDING, you guys. I have never been able to watch it without getting teary-eyed.
6x03, Fear And Loathing On The Planet Of Kitson. You can say a lot about Season 6, but Ladies Night will never not be the best (and funniest) ten minutes ever.
6x06, Inescapable. Another fan-favourite, but, honestly, another one that deserves every second of that status. Aside from the sheer hilarity of it (Fitzsimmons screaming their issues at each other at the tops of their voices, anyone?) it’s also surprisingly tender, and Fitz’s “what the bloody hell does that --” at the end never fails to crack me up.
7x01, The New Deal. Ah, man, this episode was such a journey in nostalgia!! Plus, the CLOTHES. It’s worth it just for the clothes, honestly.
7x07, The Totally Excellent Adventures of Mack and the D. I didn’t actually think I’d be putting this one on here, but upon consideration... it’s such a lovely, light-hearted and hilarious one despite how serious their situation actually is. Furthermore, this is the episode that proved beyond any shred of doubt that Deke Shaw is the absolute sweetest. Also, he can sing. Like, damn.
7x13, What We’re Fighting For. I have rewatched this thing at least three times now and I tear up every. single. time. I literally cannot think of any characters who deserve this happy ending more!!
mutuals, let me know if I’ve forgotten any significant ones because there’s a high chance I have, my brother is currently jabbing me in the back with a whiteboard marker and I want to murder him
...Oh, gosh, this somehow turned into me raving about AoS.... Is anyone even surprised, though??? 🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
But enough, now for the tagging. The actual point of this. Ahem.
@ohwriteiforgot, @aleksandrachaev, @everythingirl44, @que-mint-tea, @a-biochemist-not-a-bird, @agentsofcomedyandchaos (if you’re feeling better, Julia 💜), @eowima, @maybebrilliant, @besidemethewholedamntime and @springmagpies, if any of you guys want to do this! (and hopefully not get as out of control as me, lmao)
#tag game#feel-good shows tag game#seriously though how DID i get this out of control#🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️#aos has my soul you guys#my SOUL#and i... am not complaining#😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Tagged by @infinityactual to list 5 TV shows that give ya some of them good good feels I don’t really watch much shows... kinda never have? Which is partially why I only have four shows... the other reason being that a couple of other shows I liked previously, just turned to crap ( while I still like them, the newer seasons just don’t do it for me, so they’re not included )
1: Star Wars: The Clone Wars ( 2008-2020 ) This show. This fucking show. I used to watch it for awhile when I was a kid, and damn. I only ever really liked Anakin and Rex in the beginning, because Anakin was, well, Anakin, and Rex was handsome Captain wearing blue ( thanks, Captain America, for starting that type for me LMAOOOO ). But after a recent rewatch some time last year, before the final season came out?
I was hooked. I have so many favourites. Rex. Cody. Jesse. Fives. Echo. Plo Koon. Shaak Ti. This show has become a particular favourite of mine... Season 7′s animation didn’t have to go that hard, but it did, and we have to thank them for that
also the first show I’ve ever watched to end on an extremely low, hopeless note! and the only piece of SW media to date that ends in such a manner
2: The Mandalorian ( 2019— )
This show is so good???? It’s entertaining as hell, the music goes hard, and fuck do I love Din Djarin lmao I’m not sure I have much I wanna say here, because there’s only two seasons, one of which is still in progress, and so I don’t want to spoil anything
But all I’m going to say is that if you like shows that focus on gruff, lonely men adopting kids through sheer urge to keep kid safe, must keep this bean safe, this bean is MINE NOW .... well, I think it’ll be the show for you XD
3: The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ( 2010—2012 )
Another show from my childhood!
It’s entertaining, it’s funny, and what keeps it interesting is how the Avengers’ roster keeps shifting, while keeping a few core members. It’s not even per-season, either ( since there’s only two seasons ); it seems to be per episode. I enjoyed the way each character was portrayed, and it’s one I’d simply go back to for old time’s sake.
also, to this day, it still kills me to know that Steve Downes, the man who breathes life into the Master Chief.... voices Star Lord in this show XDD
4: Agent Carter ( 2015—2016 )
A really good series exploring the early history of SHIELD, back when it was still the SSR. Set in the aftermath of the end of WWII, it goes deeper into the character of Peggy Carter, including a little look into why she is who she is... As well as showing off that she’s a badass, competent, intelligent woman, even with the flaws that every human being displays — because nobody’s perfect!
It’s unfortunate that it never got any more seasons... But, despite that, it’s definitely one worth watching again and again!

Agents Of SHIELD S7E02 Know Your Onions Easter Eggs And References
We come to a clash of ideologies in this episode as Daisy and Elena want to prevent a horrible future at the hands of Hydra and the rest of the team wants to preserve the future they know. The team also leaves 1931 - but someone gets left behind.
As per usual, if you’re reading this list of easter eggs and references, the assumption is that you’ve already seen the episode - especially since I’m posting it a few days after the episode aired. There will be spoilers
Again, spoilers if you haven’t seen the episode.
.
.
.
The episode title.
Hey, hear that? About a third of the way through the episode the title is voiced by Koenig. The title is a phrase popularized in the ‘20s, though it might have been used as early as 1891. People are kind of conflicted on its origin. It basically means that someone is really knowledgeable, which is pretty much understood in context, but I figured I’d point it out.
Drink enchanted beverages.
Okay, this is probably just a coincidence and a play on an actual 1930s advertisement, but I was curious if this was actually a brand since it appears on a billboard early in the episode. It’s not, but Enchanted Isle does actually make a drink called the “original Tahiti drink,” which amused me, to say the least. It probably is not a nod to Coulson, and just a coincidence that it’s the closest thing to it today.
“We ran in high heels, which isn’t easy.”
I appreciate that Elena makes this remark because movies would have us believe that women run in heels as easy as they run in sneakers. It’s a nice nod to the fact that this show at least tries to make their clothing look functional.
The leading officer.
So, I didn’t say this last week, but I thought it might be worth pointing out that one of the police officers, specifically the one that takes the lead at the speakeasy, is played by Tobias Jelinek. He’s played a lot of law enforcement officers, not just cops, over the years. It amuses me, and he gets a mention here, because his big break was as the bully Jay in Hocus Pocus.
The radios.
Not an Easter egg, but I thought you guys might be interested in knowing that the radios the team is using to communicate are, in fact, crap. I don’t know how they thought the team would be in range of the Zephyr to use them. They’re the same radios we use at my day job, and they don’t always work from one end of the building to the other and pick up interference from everywhere.
Jemma’s science.
Also not an Easter egg, but a nice demonstration of her skill set, and a nice call back to Fitz’s use of alcohol and chemistry in season three during the middle of a black out.
The Red Skull, Erskine, and Super Soldiers.
I feel like this is all pretty self explanatory unless you’ve never seen the first Captain America movie. Which, at this point in the MCU, I have to wonder why you would be interested in the rest of it since it provides a lot of historical set up for the universe.
“It sounds like something out of the funny papers.”
Those funny papers are also known as comics. Superhero comic books weren’t yet at the height of their popularity. In fact, the first comic book to have original content instead of just republishing newspaper comic strips wouldn’t happen until 1935.
The crates on the train.
I know that we all know Hydra is involved, but the crates are stamped with a V logo, right? That’s a variation of the ram’s head, the space program, the Hydra symbol that we see in season three of the series. It’s also the upside down version of the Arena Club’s A, which isn’t really an A, that we see in Agent Carter.
“You can’t blame someone for something they ain’t done yet.”
This idea is actually the crux of the Marvel Comics second Civil War event series. In the series, an Inhuman with the gift of prophecy sees crimes before they happen, and one subset of heroes decides to use his visions to arrest people for things they haven’t yet done. Another group of heroes says that’s wrong, and of course, the heroic universe comes to catastrophic blows. The conflict lasts a lot longer than Daisy and Marck arguing with Deke stuck in the middle.
Enoch left behind.
From a narrative standpoint, this makes sense. Enoch doesn’t age like humans, and can reappear at another point in time just when the audience least expects it. It’s also nice that the writers essentially made him responsible for helping the Koenigs become a legacy SHIELD family. I’d like a Koenig in every era of SHIELD now, please.
And yes, there are also a lot of homages to classic gangster movies in this episode, but those are not really my thing.
Okay, that’s it for this week. If I have time to rewatch before the next episode, I’ll add in anything else I find.

About Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ending
I wrote a little something for the series finale last week and published it on both IG and Twitter but I realised that tumblr has been a huge factor as to how I fell so much in love with the show. Therefore I decided to share my little experience as an AoS fan over there too. Enjoy!
How do I begin to explain what Agents of SHIELD means to me ?
I stumbled upon it when I just started to get interested in Marvel and especially the MCU. I remember hearing about it first when they announced the show, probably an article about how the #CoulsonLives campaign made it happen in the summer of 2013. From then, I kept it in a corner of my mind, telling myself how I wanted to watch it once it came out. Flash forward to the very beginning of October, I was scrolling through tumblr when I saw a gifset picturing two scientists bickering. I saw from my friend's feed that it was from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And I realised I forgot it started airing the week before. I had a feeling I was going to love these first two characters I saw. I just had no idea how much. I managed to binge the first two episodes and then I was waiting impatiently for the third. I was longing to find out more about all these characters and follow them as they solve supernatural mysteries... By FZZT, I was totally hooked and had already read and watched all the cast's and EP's interviews. In April of the next year, I was so excited about the season finale that I watched it live, in the middle of the night while I had Uni in the morning. And then I couldn't wait until the next season, with a million questions and impatient to find the character's I've fallen in love with once more. I was studying languages and watching the show in its original version and without subtitles most of the time because I couldn't wait, really allowed me to become fully bilingual.
Through the years, I grew up as a young woman as I tried to find my professional path. It had its ups and downs but I could always count on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. every week to cheer me up and for a good time. I was enjoying watching them go to the end of the world for their missions. I've always loved travelling and so decided on a job related to tourism. Meanwhile, Fitz's struggles with changes helped me deal with my own stress and anxiety issues. Some episodes were harder than others because they sometimes hit too close for comfort but I still couldn't let go of the show. The kindness and benevolence I could feel from the entire cast and crew through social media made me feel at home when I was watching the show and the behind-the-scenes content. They were a part of my life, as well as the other fans I was talking to on tumblr or Twitter with on the daily. We developped special bonds through our love of the show.
Another flash forward to... March, 2017. I was now working as an apprentice for an airline as well as getting my degree in tourism. I was at school when I saw C2E2 anouncing they were having Iain De Caestecker as a guest, one of my favorite actors from the show. Elizabeth Henstridge had already been announced and it promised to be such an exciting convention with my two favorites. I don't know why but then I checked my calendar and saw that I was off work and school that weekend... An insane idea was forming in my mind : one of my friends from the fandom lived in Chicago, I was off work and had great opportunites for plane tickets... I took the plunge and got them that same day. I have never travelled to the United States before but everything was decided within a few days. My craziest idea yet.
About 10 days before the departure, anxiety kicked it fully and I came very close to cancelling my trip because I was so nervous something would go wrong. I made it though. To one of the best weekends of my life. Elizabeth and Iain were the nicest and really made the jetlag and anxiety worth it. I was able to meet so many fans of the show for the first time, some I already kind of knew from social media and it was so fun to put faces on names and hang out with everyone during the weekend. This convention made me realise how I wish to meet every cast member from the show to thank them for what the show meant to me. And so everytime I was able to, I would participate in one and meet other cast members and other fans and I would have SUCH a blast. Every cast member I've met were so kind and funny and I always felt comfortable with them, even when I was rambling incoherently because of nerves or loss of words.
In a perfect world, I would also want to meet every crew member to thank them personally because without them, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't have been the same. They were all essential in making my absolute favorite show.
I remember how every year we would campaign on social media to make sure we have one more season of our favorite tv show because we loved it so much and they deserved a good run. I was so fond of every character, they felt like family to me and I was always eager to find out more about them and see their new adventures. Jemma's resilience helped me through grief, Daisy's optimism boosted my own to always move forward whatever the obstacles, May's resistance encouraged me to develop my own, Yo-yo's faith reminded me that I should always thrive to be better. Seeing so many multi-faceted and powerful women on screen was rejuvenating.
This show reminded me every week of the importance of family and its values and how we don't necessary have to be blood-related to become one.
I don't think I've ever loved a series more than Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As it's more than a tv show, it's family. It accompanied me during most of my adulthood and I'm going to miss it. But more than that, I'm grateful that it exists and will forever be in my life. Through the episodes I can rewatch. Through all the friends I've made thanks to the show. Through all the memories.
Thank you Maurissa, Jed and Jeff for creating the little show that could. Thank you to all the writers for fleshing out all these perfectly flawed characters. Thank you to the entire cast for portraying them with so much talent. Thank you to every crew member for doing an outstanding job and sharing your memories with us fans. Thank you all for 7 amazing years ! All the best to each and every one of you.
And last but not least thank you to every AoS fan I’ve interacted with over the years for the best experience. I am lucky to be able to call quite a few of you my friends.

Agents of Shield Rewath 6x06 Inescapable
I KNOW WHAT THIS EPISODE IS SUCKERS
Legit I’ve rewatched it multiple times, so I’ll either have way too much to say or nothing idk
Jemma! Fitz!!!
Together at last yaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy
I love this happy reunion legit I want to cry so much
Hahahaha Fitz’s reaction at Jemma having seen the future
Fitz, honey, it was not worth it
Atarah is hair goals
I think Jemma is concerned about having every memory shared for obvious reasons
“Thought she’d never leave” haaaaaaaaahahaha Fitz has one thing on his mind
And it’s proposing marriage
PROPOSAL #3
We’re so blessed y’all
This is the most adorable mind prison tea party ever
BOO MONOLITHS
Sorry I am prejudiced against monoliths now
FITZ’S SCREAM AT SEEING WEE JEMMA SIMMONS
Jemma’s childhood room is exactly what i would expect from her
She’s really into butterflies yo
“I’m not afraid. I’m observing. From a distance.” Hahaha
And then Fitz’s little smile UGH
I WANT THIS BOOK
Well, not the Darkhold
“She’s 7.” “And a half” That’s so real though
Fitz is so ready to be a dad hahahahaha
“You’re back good don’t be mad” Hashtag they’re somarried
NOOOOOOOO Fitz doesn’t need to see this
I do understand how difficult this would be to tell Fitz about though, but also Jemma you didn’t consider this once during the year you were looking for him?
IAIN AND LIL DESERVE EVERY AWARD AVAILABLE GIVE IT TO THEM NOW
It’s amazing that it’s Coulson’s death that really breaks Fitz. Seeing himself, learning he had been married to Jemma, had a whole life he didn’t know about was tough, but I think he was already figuring out how he could get through it. Finding out about Coulson though?? That was the last straw.
THE ACADEMY AHHHHH
“Is it? You should see my room.”OK....I mean, whatever if that happens, I don’t care”
HAHAHAHAHA HE IS SO IN LOVE WITH HER
“Like a thick wall” Fitz knows he’s immediately in trouble here
Legit there is not hiding how buff Iain has gotten
The onnnnnlllllyyyyyyyy thing that mars this episode is that friendzone line, but everything else is so amazing I’m willing to overlook it
But like, you know how I can tell a man wrote this episode?
Yep
Also I recognize the healing power of that hoodie
Any excuse to get Iain to work those suits mmmm
Poor Jemma is having a panic attack
And then Fitz quickly progresses from “Simmons” to “Jemma” indicating his rapidly escalating concern
Well that doesn’t look good
YOU BOTH NEED MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF THERAPY
Their mumbling going to meet Coulson is so amazing hahahaha
I love Fitz and Simmons but they really must have been holy terrors to have around
“She’s the part I’ll take last”
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP MY HEART
“YOU BUILT A ROBOT GIRLFRIEND” HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA
This whole scene is so amazing but I can’t quote the whole thing
You’re yelling because you needed to work through all this Jemma
One thing I do want to talk about is this discussion they’re having about love and pain. The fact is all their pain came from the other person because they loved each other so much but couldn’t tell each other that. And that had probably been going on for years. I mean Jemma buried it deep with all her other problems and Fitz just straight up ignored it. So is it any surprise that their issues are now making out with each other?
Which brings me to my second point: knowing you need to share not only your joys but your pains. Again, Fitz ignores everything and pretends it’s not there while Jemma buries it all away. What will make them so much stronger though is talking about it. Knowing that the other person is going to save them or die trying in every instance. Get it all out there and talk about it!
This has been relationship advice with Ellsey. I am not qualified to give advice for anything, but I have been with the same person for 16 years ish, so I’ve got some long-term experience.
TLDR: Talk to each other. Share you feelings. Be in love. xoxo
“Fitz, we’re obviously made for each other.” *Fitz nods* I LOVE THEM
PROPOSAL #4
LET THEM KISS OMG UGH
“I have taken bold action” Yes you have bestie
“Embrace me” “Oh, I almost forgot, you’re a grandfather”
JEMMA ANNE SIMMONS NOOOOOOO
Awww Mack is so happy it makes me happy
Daisy stepping on Mack’s moment hahahaha
Ok this is already long, but I just love this episode so much. Absolutely genius storytelling weaving in and out of their memories like that. The only rating this episode gets is ∞/10 on the Fitzsimmons scale. This is peak Fitzsimmons. I don’t know if it can ever be topped.
I’ve known since I started this rewatch what song I’d use for this episode. It’s basically my peak Fitzsimmons song, so I present to you “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!” by Kishi Bashi.

AoS rewatch: 1x06 FZZT
And with this, we start that season 1 thing with spelling words in titles as if they were acronyms, though this one is only typed in capital letters but without the periods, unlike T.R.A.C.K.S.
This is the best episode of the first part of season 1, in spite of being one of the few that have no elements of the overall storyline. If all the early season 1 episodes were like this, no one would be saying anything against pre-Winter Soldier season 1. The standalone story is a great one, and it is full of important character moments and character development, Especially for Simmons and Fitz, and their relationship. This is where they stop being just comic relief supporting characters and become fully fledged characters.
Simmons later had a lot of inconsistent writing, but her characterization in this episode is perfect. It’s certainly one of her best episodes ever. We see everything from her rationality and scientific curiosity which can sometimes sound a bit creepy (”So sad a man died this way…and yet, so amazing.“), her determination and her courage and willingness to spare the others the responsibility to sacrifice her, by sacrificing herself to save everyone.
And it’s the first great FitzSimmons episode – where their relationship is in the focus and the heart of the story. There’s a lot of fun bickering, as there always is, but then we also get to see how much they mean to each other, how much Fitz is willing to risk for Jemma, and we get the first hints he may be feeling something romantic for her.
One of the differences between Fitz and Jemma is how much is Fitz is grossed out by things like dead bodies (or needles stuck into eyes, as in 1x04) while Simmons is cool and unaffected by them (but if she weren’t, it would be hard for her to do her job). I relate to Fitz in this case.
Simmons taunts him that he’s „afraid“ of a dead body, which angers him and he protests that he’s not afraid, just disgusted. Later, she says he was too afraid to go into the field. But when it comes to saving Simmons, Fitz is later completely unafraid to get into the lab with her and risk getting infected himself, and later wanted to jump off a plane to save her.
But before that, at the beginning of the episode, Fitz’ little crush on Skye gets its swan song as he makes a terrible attempt at hitting at her, which she doesn’t even register. She’s too busy talking about her problems with Ward – who has been ignoring her - and comparing him to her ex-boyfriend Miles, and she also has noticed the FitzSimmons chemistry before either of them have, pointing out that they are „psychically linked“. She has always been the world’s biggest FitzSimmons shipper.
Speaking of which, the ship name itself is again spoken in canon: just like the doc in the Pilot, Coulson refers to them as a single unit, „FitzSimmons“.
Fitz and Simmons’ impersonations of Ward are both terrible. Why do they make him sound like Edward James Olmos?
The only thing that feels out of place in this episode is May’s interrogation of one of the witnesses, who’s a little boy. It’s a humorous scene where she offers him a cookie, but looks completely intimidating while doing it. This doesn’t really make sense, as we know that May can be softer, and we now know that she is usually very caring with children. And scaring an already traumatized child shouldn’t be funny.
Indeed, Skye, I’m also shocked that neither Coulson nor Ward are familiar with The Big Lebowski. Well, actually, I’m not at all shocked that Ward hasn’t.
Foreshadowing: Ward: „Everyone looks clean on the first go round. Dig deeper“
At this point, I’m not sure if Ward is really still angry at Skye (I did believe he really was in 1x05, but only because he was jealous of Miles), or if he thinks that he now needs to continue his performance of being a strict, loyal SHIELD agent angered by Skye’s Rising Tide allegiance.
It’s a testament to how good this episode is, that it succeeds in making you feel for Diaz, the firefighter about to die, a minor character who’s only been on screen for a couple of minutes. The writing and the acting is really good. This episode’s plot is so sad, because the victims are people who were heroes helping and saving others, and they died as an indirect result of that. It’s also possibly the only episode where the team isn’t dealing with any villains who intentionally caused this, but a virus and an accidental infection.
This is also one of the best episodes for Coulson. The scene where he stays with the dying firefighter as long as he can, to make it easier for him, telling him about his own death experience, is really beautiful. (We never find out if what he told him was true, or just something he said to make him feel better.) He cut off the comm with May when she tried to warn him to leave. He does something similar later when he pretends that he lost communications with Blake, because he has no intention of following the order to dump Simmons into the ocean, instead of hoping and believing that she will find the antiserum. And he openly defies Blake and the superiors’ orders at the end of the episode, even replying „Let them try“ when he’s threatened with SHIELD taking the team away from him. (I don’t know how Fury felt about Coulson disobeying his orders – but maybe he liked it, because, after all, he also disobeyed orders that he deemed to be stupid ass orders, like being told to bomb New York.) In spite of the many ways in which the later seasons improved the show, one of the things I’m sad about is that this humane, always compassionate season 1 Coulson was kind of lost, as he became darker and angrier, prone to keeping secrets even from his team, and occasionally too obsessed with revenge.
When watching Ward in these early episodes, the question constantly arises, what is real and what is fake. The speech he gives to Skye, about feeling helpless that he cannot protect his team members from someone, a superpowered psychopath, it is a part of his performance, but is there maybe some grain of truth in it? The best lies are usually those that have a bit of truth in them – an actor needs to find something to relate to give a better performance. Ward was deceiving and manipulating everyone, but at the same time, we know he did develop some feelings for at least some of his teammates. Not just romantic feelings for Skye, but it’s also canon (at least since 3x09) that he projected his little brother into Fitz. The same episode hinted he may have seen Simmons as a sister figure. (I personally believe that he projected his family on the team, which also explains his later negative feelings for them.) And he definitely has a hero complex and wants people to see him as a protector (whether or not this fits with the reality), this is how he defines himself and his worth – it’s one of the constants of his characters throughout the show.
First mention and appearance of Titus Welliver as Agent Felix Blake
We find out that FitzSimmons have never even passed their field assessments.
So many defining FitzSimmons moments. FitzSimmons sitting on the different sides of the lab door, separated.
That moment. That moment when they are arguing and Fitz starts saying that she has been always by his side, that they’ve spent every moment together (“You’ve been beside me the whole damn time!”) – and his face changes. That’s when he realizes just how much Simmons means to him. And it’s the moment when so many fans started shipping FitzSimmons.
It’s right after that he went into the lab with her to do everything to help her find a way to save herself „We’re gonna fix this together“
Fitz desperately yelling: „JEMMA!“ - I’m pretty sure that’s the first time on the show he has called her by her first name.
Going by what we’ve seen so far – countries SHIELD has offices in include Morocco and China, but apparently not Peru or Belarus (and, going by 4x14, no office in Russia, either).
I love the way Simmons corrects Ward about his imitation of her bad imitation of him.
Aw, the Skye-Simmons hug was sweet. The Bus Kids friendship was one of the things that the show developed very convincingly from the start, in a relatively small number of episodes.
In the ongoing story of Coulson worrying about his earlier death and comeback, he has ordered his own physical exam. This is so far the most tender May/Coulson scene, and the tenderest May has been in the show. (And I bet the writers were being intentionally naughty and ship-teasing when they put the„Take off your shirt“ line in there.)
The last scene, where Fitz is unhappy and a bit jealous that he didn’t get to save Simmons from jumping, but Ward did instead (don’t worry, Fitz, Ward had a much better chance of succeeding there, let everyone play to their strengths), and Simmons reassures him that he was the one who did most to help and save her, being there with her in the lab, and gives him a cheek kiss… if Fitz didn’t realize before that his feelings for Jemma may be romantic, he is definitely starting to understand it here, going by that last shot of him, deep in thoughts.

VLD7x04 – “The Feud!”
7x04 – “The Feud!”
Can anyone tell me what the point of this episode is? I truly do not understand why this episode exists. Not only was this episode written, it was written by the (until part way through this season) Story Editor for this show Tim Hedrick. Even with episodes I think are a waste of time like 4x04 “The Voltron Show!” or 8x07 “Day Forty-Seven” or 8x08 “Clear Day,” I still at least recognize something of the writer’s intention, but I have no idea what the point of “The Feud!” is. There are episodes of this series that I really don’t like, but I haven’t dreaded rewatching any of them the way I dreaded rewatching this one. I don’t think there’s an episode of this show that I hate more than this one.
There is only one interpretation that I can think of for this episode, and it makes Tim Hedrick look extremely petty and unprofessional (see the end of this commentary).
The episode, with the juxtaposition of the visual design and the episode title, is clearly a reference to old gameshows like Family Feud. Voltron Legendary Defender’s target audience was young kids, and it’s hard for me to imagine anyone that young being familiar with old gameshows, so I have no idea how anyone thought this gameshow pastiche would be appealing to them.
I guess this episode is supposed to be funny. Nothing about this episode makes me laugh.
The Paladins are a team on a gameshow. Shiro continues to not be part of the team. Keith, Pidge, Lance, Hunk, and Allura are all being forced to participate. They are disoriented and have no idea where they are or why they’re here. Pidge says, “The last thing I remember, we were all flying in our Lions.” So, Hunk’s declaration near the end of last episode that the Lions were “in worse shape than ever,” meant absolutely nothing. There is no resolution of the Lions being without power. The show just ignores what it had set up.
Is Bob supposed to be funny? I have never understood why shows – VLD is not alone in this – do episodes with inscrutable characters like Bob. Some faux-mysterious other-being that causes things to happen, functions in some ways like a chaos-agent, but the narrative never gives any real explanation to why the character does what they do. It is fundamentally bad writing to ever have a character whose motivation is nonexistent.
Bob tells the Paladins that they have to win this game or be “trapped here in our studio for the rest of eternity.” Whatever threat that is supposed to have is instantly nonexistent. Of course, the Paladins are getting out of this since there’s more show to go. By using faux-threat like this, by using something so over-the-top severe, the episode causes the audience to instantly disengage with the plot. A story having too much threat can actually turn into having no threat.
Bob locks the Paladins’ feet to the floor, the camera and sound of his voice go over-the-top menacing, and he says, “You will play my game as long as I want you to.” Because everything Bob says is meaningless, the faux-threat just feels absurd.
The laugh track I guess is just part of the old gameshow pastiche that they used for this episode. Laugh tracks have always seemed like lies to me. I don’t like an episode telling me, laugh here. And since this episode is not funny, every time I hear the laugh track, I wonder, did the people who worked on this episode actually think this was funny?
Bob magically infantilizes Keith by putting a pacifier in his mouth while Keith has to draw something for the other Paladins to guess. I guess it’s supposed to be funny that the other Paladins have trouble guessing what Keith’s drawing, but it’s not funny. Allura correctly guesses Arusian for the first drawing, after Lance thinks it’s a chicken and Pidge yells at him. For the second drawing, it’s clearly a sword, and Lance guesses “chopsticks,” which when Pidge yells at him again, he modifies to “space chopsticks.” Pidge gets the correct Blade of Marmora guess. Third guess goes to Hunk who, after cycling through all of the colors, answers Red Lion. The last drawing is of Haggar, which Lance calls “pepperoni, an alligator, a cave, windy cave, […] a thermos,” and Allura slams the platform/desk they’re standing at and yells, “Lance, will you stop talking!”
I hate that this episode has everyone treat Lance like this.
They fail to get the last one in time. And then the “other team” is introduced. Zarkon, Haggar, Lotor, and an “insignificant underling” Morvok. I don’t have any idea what the purpose of bringing them into this is. They don’t behave like the characters actually behave in the show. They’re not even caricatures of the characters used as some form of self-referential meta-analysis.
The instant Zarkon is told to guess Keith’s last drawing, of course he’s going to get it right, and he even clearly knows he knows the answer, but it feels like forever for him to just get on with it and say the answer. I guess it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s not.
Lotor rants about “spending centuries perfecting my exquisite life-like renderings, not that you cared,” Haggar touches Lotor on the arm and says, “I treasured your art,” and he recoils from her, saying, “Don’t touch me you filthy, filthy hag.” This moment feels like the show is criticizing Lotor for his rejection of Haggar, like it’s presenting Haggar as being not-that-bad, like Lotor is unjust in his hating Haggar. It’s offensive to me. If the most wanted production goal of this series was the EPs wanting Keith as Black Paladin, it seems like the second most wanted production goal was to retcon Haggar. Haggar was a horrible person, and the show’s insistence that we change to see her instead as a good person to whom bad things happened honestly feels like the show is gaslighting the audience. Zarkon then yells at Lotor, Lotor hits Morvok, and Bob looks at the camera and says, “Family, am I right?”
The whole moment is about presenting Lotor as the unreasonable one, like he’s responsible for Zarkon abusing him, and all of Haggar’s abuse is somehow our misinterpretation of her character. It’s played like abuse is funny. “Family, am I right?” How about, no.
Zarkon plays some card out of nowhere that makes the next Paladin have to play alone, and Zarkon picks “the dumb one.” The camera zooms in on Lance, who turns to his supposed friends and asks, “Who’s he talking about?” The laugh track laughs.
Lance is “dumb,” isn’t that funny? What is wrong with this show? What is wrong with the people who made this show? What is wrong with Tim Hedrick for writing this? What is wrong with Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery for approving this script? What is wrong with the people at Dreamworks for approving this script?
It would be different if Zarkon called Lance “dumb” and the other Paladins, Lance’s supposed friends, came to his defense. But they don’t. I can only then think that the EPs and the writers of this show do think of Lance as “the dumb one” and that they think it’s funny to write him that way.
Bob sends the gameshow to an advertisement break, and as they’re transitioning out, Lance continues, “Wait, I’m the dumb one?” It kind of makes me want to cry, like it hurts me that the show is treating Lance like this.
There’s an advertisement for that store in 2x07 “Space Mall,” where Lance and Pidge got the Kaltenecker. The alien salesperson doesn’t act here like he did there. The whole advertisement sequence is a total waste of time. I guess it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s not.
Coming back from the break, Bob again refers to Lance as “the dumb one.” Lance reacts, “I’m not too happy being referred to as ‘the dumb one’ like 18 times.” Bob looks at the camera, says, “Oh, it was only about four times, you big dumb-dumb,” and the laugh track laughs.
What is wrong with this show?
Lance has to play “Faces from the Past,” Bob asks Lance if he knows how the game works, Lance says an assumptive yes, and Bob looks at the camera and says, “What do you think, audience, do we believe this beautiful dumb-dumb?” The audience yells, “No!”
What is wrong with this show? What is wrong with the people who made this?
Lance is placed in an “isolation shield,” a clear tube with a mouth on top of it. The first “face from the past” almost lands on Kolivan before shifting at the last second to a faceless member of the Blade of Marmora. There’s no way for Lance to know who this guy is. There’s no way for anyone to know who he is because he’s wearing the traditional Blade of Marmora facemask that conceals his identity. Keith points to his blade, Bob says “that’s a pretty big clue,” but how’s it a clue?
I don’t even know why I’m arguing with this episode. This episode is total crap.
Lance guesses, “Blade… y. Bladey?” The answer is Antok. Everyone else acts like it’s absurd to not know Antok. The only absurd thing is that not just someone, but several people in this show’s production actually thought this was a script worth producing.
I would rather watch 23 minutes of the form-Voltron animation over and over than this episode.
The next face is one of the mermaid people with a squid on her head. Lance knows her as “the serious one.” He knows things she did, but not her name, which is apparently Swirn. The next face almost stops on Nyma, but then shifts at the last second to Rolo. Lance has trouble remembering his name, the other Paladins use their arms to spell out Rolo. Lance runs out of time, and then the Paladins change their arms to spell out “kill.”
The episode literally has Allura, Hunk, Pidge, and Keith express anger and frustration at Lance by saying they want to kill him. What is wrong with this show and what is wrong with the people who made it?
To the audience’s cheers, Bob explains that if Lance misses the next one, he’ll “be forced to hit this button, which will shoot you out of the studio and into the layer of the snick,” which is some big, insect-like or crab-like creature. The last face is Bii-Boh-Bi. How nice of this worthless episode to reference that worthless episode. Lance correctly and instantly answers this one.
Team Zarkon are dropped through a hole in the floor. Their purpose in the episode is concluded. I still don’t what the point of any of this episode is though. Bob brings out Bii-Boh-Bi. This character was not funny in the past, he’s not funny now. Bob continues to call Lance “dumb-dumb.”
Lance has to answer five questions correctly or end up in a tank of percolating green liquid “where [he’ll] be slowly cooked alive.” Bii-Boh-Bi is giving clues to Lance while the weird mouth on the top of the tube Lance is in starts swallowing the tube.
Lance says, “I have no idea what’s happening right now.” Same here, Lance.
Lance somehow guesses various “bi”s and “bo”s correctly. I guess it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s not. Lance does not get the last one correct, the mouth swallows him, and he gets ejected into the tank of liquid.
There’s another advertisement, this time for Vrepit Sal’s. Thankfully, at least, it’s quicker than the previous advertisement.
Lance says the liquid feels like it’s exfoliating him, and Bob replies, “Eventually it will eat through your skin.” There is something seriously wrong with the people who worked on this show, especially Tim Hedrick.
Bob asks the Paladins, who is going to play to free Lance, “who’s the brainiest of the team?” and they all instantly answer, Pidge. She has to play a hole of miniature golf. It takes a lot of time for her to set up her shot, which I guess is supposed to be funny. Pidge seems to accidentally hit the ball into the camera and then into Bob, but it’s clear she meant to do that as she tackles Bob to the ground, trying to arrange a chance for them to escape. Bob teleports back to his normal center-stage position, Pidge and Lance are teleported back to the rest of the group, and they’re now in the final stage of the gameshow. It makes no sense.
Bob says, “One of you will now be allowed to leave the game, the rest of you will be staying here with me forever.” They have to write down who they think should be the one to leave. Hunk votes for Allura because she’s “the princess, and she’s such a natural leader, you know. The universe needs her more than it needs the rest of us, plain and simple.” Of course, the show hasn’t had Allura be a leader since, like, season three.
Allura votes for Pidge, “She and her family have the best chance of rebuilding what my father started.” I guess this “rebuilding” is supposed to be a reference to the Castle Ship and Atlas? I would think Coran would be more capable than Pidge’s family at building a new Castle Ship since he spent the whole show maintaining and running the Castle nearly by himself.
Lance votes for Keith, “He’s our leader, plus he’s half-Galra, so I think he’s like, the future.” What does this mean? How is being half-Galra the future? Lotor was half-Galra too, but Lance certainly didn’t think of Lotor as being “the future.” Why is the show placing worth and value on a person based on this? This honestly feels racist. It’s like it’s a statement that Galra-supremacy is valid, so Zarkon was right the entire time?
Keith votes for Lance, saying, “I just don’t want to be stuck here for eternity with Lance.” Lance initially misinterprets this as a good thing before realizing that it’s an insult. This is supposed to be a team? These are supposed to be people who are friends? This episode is so messed up.
Pidge votes for Hunk, saying, “Hunk gets along with everybody. If anyone’s going to go out into the universe and bring people together, it’s Hunk.”
Bob is impressed that no one voted for themselves and that everyone got at least one vote. So, they all win. That’s the end of the gameshow.
The Paladins wake up in their Lions in space. So, yup, there’s no resolution to how the previous episode ended with the Lions being “in worse shape than ever.” They’re fine now. Whatever.
The Paladins begin to realize that, since they all experienced the gameshow, that it was real, not a dream, so that’s a giant cliché. Coran pops in at the sound of the name “Bob,” who he says is an “all-powerful, all-knowing interdimensional being who judges the worthiness of great warriors.” Keith replies, “The guy was kind of a jerk though, right?” The other Paladins seem to agree with him.
Then there’s another advertisement for the mermaid planet.
Is Bob supposed to be a reference to Bob Koplar from World Events Productions? If, as Keith says, Bob “was kind of a jerk,” does that mean this episode is all about Tim Hedrick complaining about Koplar and WEP? The executive producers were very public about their complaints that executives wouldn’t just step back and let them make the show however they wanted. As an executive of WEP, Bob Koplar could be one of the executives that JDS and LM referenced in their complaints. Hedrick left Voltron this season, and this episode is the first one where he shares Story Editor credit with Joshua Hamilton. If this episode is Hedrick criticizing Bob Koplar, then (regardless of what kind of person Koplar is) Hedrick is a really petty person. The same way it was seriously unprofessional for the show to have written the EPs’ complaints about having to keep Shiro into Coran’s dialog in 4x04 “The Voltron Show,” if “The Feud!” is Hedrick ranting about Koplar as he’s leaves the show, then that is also seriously unprofessional.
If there is some other possible explanation for what in the world this episode is supposed to be, I don’t know.
As much as other episodes of this show infuriate me, “The Feud!” is the absolute worst episode of Voltron Legendary Defender.
