Caroline 2.3 rambles

just saw Caroline's overture and I felt like I was transcending the meaning of elation. like, you cannot understand how hyped i am for this patch now. 2.0? yeah i guess its pretty cool. 2.1? yeah argus and tuesday seem to have a lot of SPICY potential. 2.2? yeah im pretty excited to see a new vertin ship with someone who calls her by a title.

but 2.3? after that preview of Willow's backstory? after the few bits of the story and dialogue I found? after seeing Caroline's overture and seeing WILLOW'S LITTLE NOTE ON IT???

yeah sorry to all the ship pairs that come before them I AM SIDELINING YOU FOR THIS RIVAL YURI (like, I legit feel like getting tuesday now for the sole purpose of making a willow build because of tjis I can't).

Once again, I’m not going to talk about any story stuff since I play global and ever since I got the 1.9 Sophia stuff spoiled for me I’m avoiding any possible spoilers like the plague.

Anyway new character time!

Willow is absolutely STUNNING! I love that she’s this ballerina-witch hybrid character, and her ultimate seems to tell some kind of “story” which intrigues me.

I was really, really hoping Flutterpage was going to be a nonhuman character so I’m a bit disappointed she’s just a human girl lol. She seems cute though. Her ultimate is adorable

Hello weird little sentient Australian hat man. I’m SO happy that we’re getting a nonhuman character that isn’t a four star or below. Don’t get me wrong I love pretty women as much as the next guy but the nonhuman characters are so whimsical to me. Also love the pun in his name, BRIMley, I see what you did there.

Based on design alone I’ll pull for Willow and Brimley for sure. If Flutterpage ends up being a game-breaking powerhouse I’ll consider pulling her but I doubt that’s going to happen.

Also to address the elephant in the room: yep once again no dark skinned characters. But honestly I wasn’t really expecting that with this patch. Now if 2.4 is still taking place in Brazil and all those new characters are white as sheets I will still be having a problem.

Semmelweis skin. I don’t know I’m not super big on Semmelweis so I won’t be getting this one. I think the design is cute though, loving the archer vibes. Also am I crazy or does this garment have the same name as Isolde’s psycube? I swear I’ve seen this phrase before

Finally, the advanced garment. I’m glad Lilya is getting another skin, but I like her other one better and I also already have it.

For some reason they only are doing one anecdote for this update (Mercuria) so I’m not sure what that’s all about.

Finally, Bluepoch seems to be implementing pvp in this patch so great news for everyone with maxed out meta characters and bad news for me who exclusively pulls pretty women and silly little guys 😔

***CORRECTION apparently this is pve not pvp, we’re fighting against an ai. For now at least, I wonder if Bluepoch is using this to test the gamemode and then eventually change it to pvp, but we’ll have to see

More thoughts on subtle nature of the Foundation exploiting its workforce and the people it saves

(I dont know to word this properly but looking at what Kakania chose at the end of anecdote marking the end of this particular arc of her character for now)

Im less looking at the nature of her therapy sessions (someone probably could look at that ans analyse the heck out of it) but the result and choice she makes after.

After leaving Isolde and reconiling the fact that right now, she cannot help Isolde and if anything distance between the two might be the best thing for the both of them. After all Kakania whether it was her intention or not contributed to Isolde's already worsening mental state and the only best solution right now is probably to leave her in this current blissful state/ dream.

As for Kakania? Already wrestling with the survivor's guilt of being the only recorded person to survive using the imperfect knot already weighs on her. Repeated panic attacks throughout the anecdote and the constant disassociation to the past as well. Sure she reconciles with the flaws in her methods and mindset, but what is the option given by the Foundation?

Join the expendable group of the History Guard (watchers I cant remember exactly) those jobs is to record everything happening in an era to keep field investigators informed at all times, and the way Greta described the job sounded like a high mortality rate.

Who would have even suggested Kakania the job? Certainly not Marcus, arriving at the end of her anecdote to invite Kakania to join Team TK, but Kakania initally choses to join the History Guard (its a situation where alot of Team TK members join branches in the Foundation, like Eagle with Lorenz and Edit its Windsong not Vila btw with the field investigators). Probably it was her psychiatrist who suggested the position. Which is worrying since Kakania clearly has suicidal ideations (the shard of the broken mirror and "being washed away is a just punishment for all my sins"). Why suggest a job that actively enables these ideations?

Ever notice that the colleagues of the psychiatrist she mentions also have continue working? Even if you are saved by the Foundation the immediate next step is to hire the individual, eventually even if they might fully recover from the shock of the Storm.

Its concerning that Kakania right now views her suffering as atonement for Vienna, now the Foundation hands her the job that could ensure it. The main method of the Foundation is control, over some perceived greater good in stopping the Storm, everything else falls to the wayside if it doesnt benefit the Foundation's goals.

Its not new to us for the Foundation to hire people saved from the Storm, but it is concerning that working for the Foundation is presented as the only option (why ofc you may say, they need more people to stop Manus and the Storm), but its the notion that this is the ONLY option. You cant really escape working for them, in that case you probably would be thrown to face the Storm and get reversed.

Its good that at some point Kakania does join Team TK (as evident in Vertin greeting her at the end of her trailer), maybe there she could actually heal; because with the Foundation it is only going to continue enabling that self guilt until something happens.

Summary: the Foundation traps those its save into a loop, the only option is to work for them, even if people are given therapy it seems to also double as a means to employ them as well.

i think it's interesting that limited time characters do eventually get added to the permanent roster/pool not just from a gameplay/meta perspective but also from a story/lore perspective. i like to think that most of the playable characters do end up "canonically" staying in or at least visiting vertin's suitcase at some point. i love the dynamic the canon suitcase team (an-an lee, oliver fog, a knight, apple, x, and a lot more lol) has and i just think the more the merrier ya know

Greetings Comrade! Proceeds to flesh out the dumb au running in my head.

Heres a more complete layout of the Possessed! Vertin AU (maybe another name) (this is long)

Didnt expect a squad swipe lmao. Generally I imagine everyone more or less come out alive since its Vertin, even if shes being possessed by Arcana and has assess to her skills she wouldnt be able to properly utilise the mass power of Arcana

(So think Engima's statement on humans attempting to use the ritual initially, like overloading a household appliance: here Vertin is a tiny light bulb hooked to a plane's engine. Arcana made Vertin use Schneider's gun, while probably a way to manipulate Vertin, I think Vertin is limited in Arcane range)

(Also it draws out everything and yes I spent too long thinking about this au)

So uh heres a couple stuff on that battle between Vertin and the suitcase. (Not all because thats 60+ people and we know not everyone is there and its a surprise attack)

Most severely injured: Madam Z (no one goes unscathed, well mostly) Sonetto, probably the main team so think Regulus and Druvis

Scenerios: (i think if its Arcana shes probably gonna mess with everyone because its Arcana)

(If you have Schnieder alive in this scenario then Arcana is deffo recreating that scene again but ten times worse)

Idk why this thought has been running around but: Kakania hostage situation, because ofc Arcana can manipluate probably the most unstable member of the suitcase Isolde and therefore force everyone into a stalemate.

(This is bordering fic wow) consider this the scene in Book 6 but Kakania's life is on the line, maybe shes disarmed and coincidentally her gun ends up with Isolde and Marcus is there. (Yeah i write essays not fics so do what you will).

Arcana possessing Vertin probably just gives her access to all her trauma so probably threatens Madam Z with it (Breakaway Incident stuff).

Outcome Im suggesting here is that Vertin is restrained, and as a last ditch attempt to save Vertin is AS, since we know multiple ppl can enter the same one with Lilya and Sonetto doing that training one in Book 4 - this is Mesmer Jr's part in this.

(Why not immediate execution? Remember this is pandora's box you are threatening to release, its no longer 5 or so people, is much much more and more sources and abilities available - a stalemate between the suitcase and Foundation is agreed to attempt to save Vertin or execute her if anything goes wrong)

This becomes basically a Persona plot (or PTN Black Ring or Limbus the Sinner's memories when they approach a Golden Bough) , enter Vertin's mind and eradicate Arcana in there. Maybe the AS takes the form of Three Doors, probably have Sonetto, Regulus maybe Lilya and / or Matilda enter. Maybe go all crazy and say they meet the voices (the Old Man and Grandma) chilling out in there, maybe their existence retains shreds of Vertin holding on. Maybe in memory both Matilda and Sonetto find out the truth to the Breakaway Incident.

Im an optimist! They do remove Arcana (ofc she doesnt die) but this is a pyrrhic victory. More is lost than gained, whatever happens next is unclear, whether Vertin will be sane or Team Timekeeper could be restored. (Ill leave it open ended enough maybe someone can transcribe this plot into a fic, because deffo I cannot)

I offer the possessed! Vertin AU (inspired by @cheemken 's AU and ideas on Twitter)

Arcana already wants Vertin for some reason so this post 1.9 is an AU that somehow Vertin is infected during that final battle and slowly loses to Arcana.

Kinda the Manus infected Vertin possession by Arcana where she slowly infects Vertin, like the subtle infection where only people like TF, Madam Z, Sonetto and probably Mesmer Jr and Matilda notice personality changes in Vertin until right in the middle of Foundation Headquarters all hell breaks loose. Maybe a critical point with Constantine bringing up the Breakaway Incident that finally sends Vertin over the edge.

Consider an all out battle with suitcase and co. Plus the threat of a higher up using the Scorching Heart Incantation to just eliminate Vertin as she becomes the greatest threat to the Foundation.

(Vertin gets the Manus drip ofc ofc)

Outcome? Up to you.

(I really can go really angsty with this, like Sonetto getting injured by Vertin probably will send her over the edge)

You know me, lover of Slight angst and hurt/comfort.

On the POSITIVE side, like the good ending, Vertin is able to get out of Arcana's possession. After the whole fight against everyone in the suitcase - final boss style, Vertin's connection with Arcana breaks because Arcana wants it to. Much like with Schneider, after having destroyed so much, injured so many people and ruined everything for her and the others, she is released.

There's Sonetto lying on the floor, holding the wounds caused by Vertin's arcane skills given by Arcana, deep wounds I must add. There's Mesmer Jr in a corner, unable to participate because she doesn't trust her Arcane ability and then there's Matilda, unconscious maybe alive maybe dead, the reason why Sonetto is still alive is her.

And there's The Foundation pointing their guns at Vertin, there's Madam Z unable to do anything, there's Tooth Fairy with a face worse than simple pain. Everyone has no idea what to do, then, she gets taken by the Foundation.

The people in the suitcase are being taken care of, Team Timekeeper no longer exists because there is no Timekeeper, they become soldiers of different branches of the foundation. There's a couple of dead bodies in those. Those who tried to get close to Vertin to stop her never made it too far, the healers are doing their best to bring them back, healing the wounded and treating the traumatized.

It's a mess, really. And Vertin is sealed until they're able to take care of Arcana, and maybe, she might not be released.

But it's the good ending, because she's alive and despite what has happened, there's still a silver chance to repair what has been broken, to severe that connection with Arcana.

And perhaps the deaths of her close friends, Matilda who gave her life away (we all know that if she had the chance to save Sonetto she would jump), she would feel insanely guilty.

As for the bad ending, however... Not a lot get the privilege to live. Vertin doesn't go back because she's Arcana's priced pawn, and she needs her for more moves. So they're gone, most of them either way. The British branch of the foundation in shambles, those who managed to survive are trying to save Vertin. It's too late though, Vertin will never be the same as long as Arcana has her claws around her.

It's the end.

Monthly Reverse Gets: "I Somehow Forgot About September" Edition

Like the title says, I somehow forgot to do a version of this for September. Anyway, my Insight 3 section is starting to fill out nicely.

Brand New:

Semmelweis: One of our two free characters for the Anniversary patch. I built her, despite not wanting to run Eternity, because I really need one other, decent, Mineral DPS for Limbo content. She actually works surprisingly well with Charlie.

Lorelei: The other free character.

Medicine Pocket: Got them in the banner during the first half of the Anniversary patch. They're still not usable, but once X is done they're next. Can't stress enough how happy I am to have Med Pocky on my account :D

Pickles: Picked up while trying to get Kakania.

Kakania: Managed to get her during the big Anniversary patch. She was only untrained for about 10 minutes before I immediately boosted her to Insight 3, Level 30, Resonance 10.

Lucy: I also managed to pick up Lucy after pulling on Kakania, no hard pity necessary. I got her to Insight 2 but I'm not even going to bother leveling her further. I don't want her to suck all the fun out of the game with her ridiculously OP kit.

Ulu / Kanjira: I picked them up at some point. I think it was on the first 10 pull for the Mercuria Banner. I didn't intend to pull for Mercuria but I had to do a 10 pull, just because that banner gives you a guaranteed 5* on the 10th of 70 pulls.

Mercuria: I just wanted to build up 30/70 pulls for the J pity, but Reverse 1999 kept giving me 6* characters on pull 20-30 (and it happened like 3 times in a row), so now I have a P1 Semmelweis AND a P1 Mercuria and only 26 pity for the Joe banner (please RNGsus have mercy on me). If it were P0 Mercuria I'd ignore her, but as a F2P character whose 6* are all mostly P0, I can't really ignore a P1 Mercuria...

Leveled Up:

A lot of long time characters on my account finally got to graduate from "Forever Insight 2/3". Tennant, Sonetto, Necrologist, Desert Flannel and Yenisei.

When Mane's Bulletin arrives this week X will also be usable for endgame content.

Sweetheart: I couldn't really afford not to build her. She finally hit P5 and I still REALLY need a Beast DPS for Limbo content, so I built her, despite her being pretty mid.

Baby Blue: She also hit P5 though I honestly started to enjoy playing her due to the Roguelike mode. She's a low priority but I do want to run her alongside DPS-Six (since she has pretty easy debuffs to help power up Six's Ult).

Twins Sleep: With Kakania on my account, it's a lot easier to play certain low rarity characters. Twins Sleep is the first low rarity I'm building up, since I know they're pretty solid supports from the Roguelike mode.

John Titor: GET HYPE FOR JOHN TITOR COSTUME IN 2.3 WOOO

Other:

Kakania: I ended up using the new Resonance upgrade mechanic on her, since you can massively increase her HP with it (and that makes her even better at absorbing damage for allies).

I plan to also upgrade Marcus and Charlie, since their default R10 pieces aren't very good. They're both DPS characters, but their default pieces give them like, extra HP and Crit Defense. Not sure what I'll use for Charlie, but Marcus should get the Incantation boosting piece.

I’m assuming that the first three character names are the new characters because they’re before Tooth Fairy who is obviously already out. I’m particularly interested in “Flutterpage��� already because the name is so cute. I’m assuming the other two characters are npcs since npcs were listed on the 2.2 poster.

Speaking of Tooth Fairy YAY MORE TOOTH FAIRY CONTENT! GREAT day for all my fellow Tooth Fairy enthusiasts. I’ve also seen some speculation that “Mr. Fog is in reference to Oliver Fog, and while I’d love it if he were involved I feel like if it was him Bluepoch would just outright put his name on the poster. I definitely think at the very least that character will be related to Oliver, but we’ll have to see. Also it would be nice to see some darker skintones this time Bluepoch but I’m not holding my breath
