The Paradox Pokemon

Iron Valiant is believed to be a descendant of Gardevoir and Gallade in the distant future. Iron Valiant roam the deepest waters in the ocean. They protect themselves from danger using their harpoon. They search for any signs of life in the depths below. The reason they do this is unknown.

ancient aliens runway and stargate guys. due to the large number of alien-based lines, when the dex was originally nearing completion we tallied up the numbers and realised we'd ended up with an oops all psychic situation, leading to a number of lines like this one being hastily retyped for better balance

wow, I drew these two months ago concurrently with retyping Karrablast and Escavalier. Why are these funny rivals so far apart in the 'dex nintendo. I considered doing a redraw to update the art, but decided that was unnecessary. Have I really progressed all that that far as an artist?... I'm not going to dwell on it.

I don't really remember my thought process for making Shelmet and Accelgor olms. Maybe something to do with fire salamanders but not wanting to steal charmander's... thunder, or maybe I just that it'd be neat.

Kinda morbid 'dex entry for Sholmet, getting its tail torn off, but it happened to Slowpokes way back in the day, and hey, at least Sholmet gets a sweet evolution out of it.

Hi its been a year or so I'm gonna make an intro post.

My name is Melon (she/her) and my age is adult. I'm a physics grad student specializing in high energy theoretical physics.

My interests are Pokemon, Steven Universe, The Owl House, Slay the Spire, Undertale and Deltarune, Amphibia, wildlife photography, anthropology/archaeology, and of course physics and math (I may have forgotten something).

I'm more active during the summer with art as I'm pretty busy with grad school otherwise. But I'm always happy to receive asks about whatever!

okay so electric pokemon are the best and i find that some of my favorite pokemon are the ones that i'm like 'WTF IS THAT???' or something super adorable, and so when i had my little Tynamo, i had no idea that i had a beast of pokemon so it all worked out =u=

AAAAAA SOOO, i've played a majority of them as far as mainline games go, with the exception of the original Ruby/Sapphire, X/Y, and i only halfway finished Sun i dont think i can i hate it lol

but i absolutely adore the Sinnoh region, so DP will always have a place in my heart,

but i think my favorite has to be Omega Ruby cause i honestly cannot find anything i hate about it, well, besides mega evolutions, -it was my first game back into the series after DP and so the 3DS graphics blew my mind and the post-game was AMAZING aaaaaaand this might be kinda petty but it was also the last time i was able to have my A-team altogether (being me Whimsicott, Eelektross, and Shedinja) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND..

..i dunno there's a lot but i think i already rambled on a lil bit more than what i meant @u@' hehe

Whimsicott’s a lovely little fae creature, based on cotton with a neat sheep motif thrown in too. Appropriately, it’s Grass/Fairy-type, and it’s probably the pokemon that wanted that Fairy retype more than any other retroactive Fairy. It fits it SO well and it adds so much appeal! All that cotton also allows it to freely drift on the wind, giving its animations a rather lovely floatiness in the 3D games. Though apparently too much wind can rip the cotton off, which sounds deeply unpleasant.

Whimsicott’s other conceptual gimmick is its mischievous behaviour. It’s able to slip into any gap no matter how small, a skill it uses to sneak into people’s houses. This is even represented by one of its abilities, Infiltrator. It then proceeds to hide things, move furniture, pull pranks, and scatter cotton everywhere – all behaviours one would expect of a fairy! It then promptly escapes, unless it gets wet which causes it to become too heavy to move and forces it to “answer for its mischief”. I LOVE all this and it adds a ton of personality to what might otherwise be a rather generically cutesy pokemon.

Appropriate for its behaviour, Whimsicott’s heavily associated with the Prankster ability, one of my favourite abilities! Prankster makes it so all of a pokemon’s non-damaging status moves gain priority, meaning they always go before moves that don’t have priority. It’s incredibly useful in competitive play, allowing Whimsicott to outspeed all other pokemon to help set up for teammates or cripple the opposing team. In Gen V, Whimsicott was actually the only non-Legendary pokemon normally obtainable with the ability, hidden abilities aside!

Whismicott’s got a lovely shiny, giving it a much darker body along with blue horns. It’s not particularly grassy-feeling anymore due to the lack of green, but what matters is the presence of cotton so it’s all good. I think I actually prefer it to the base form quite a bit!

Overall, Whimsicott is fantastic. It’s pretty simple and straightforward as a design: just a little humanoid creature with horns and a massive blob of cotton on its back. But it packs in so much character thanks to its dex entries and animations. There may be lots of Grass- and Fairy-types I love even more, but Whimsicott’s still a solid favourite nonetheless.

okay but like - their ship names... solinhianella? sophellinhiana? or...? and please don't make me come up with the keefe-dex-fitz-tam ship name i sat here for a good 3 minutes retyping it and it comes out bad every time

Okay so, I like solinhianella. For the keefe-dex-fitz-tam, uhhh...maybe keefitexam? Which looks horrible but it’s the only thing I can come up with. May I also suggest ‘Poly Disaster Gays’ for the boys and ‘Poly Distinguished Lesbians’ for the girls?

How do you balance the type ratio of your fakemon region? Do you have a certain number of each type you want to fulfill, or do you just make whatever type you want? I’ve always wanted to make my own fakemon region as I already have a few pokémon made but I’m not sure if the type ratio really matters or not.

uhh basically type distribution wasn’t planned? i just made every Pokemon in my dex however i pelased without really any thought but did make the conscious decision to make sure to include certain types and match-ups. Afterwords I started to change stuff in my dex to help balance it out, remove designs/concepts that weren’t working, retype some guys if there was too many of one and not enough of another etc. Here’s the more or less finalized list of all Types in the Qamor dex, including forms and what not-

I have something planned to help balance out types that aren't that abundant but for now these are the “base” game stats

Celebi - Fire/Fairy

The Intent Pokemon

Celebi is said to be able to judge a person's intent with its flame. Those with a pure heart and good intentions will be able to touch its flames without pain. Those with ill intentions will be burned by the flames. Sightings of this Pokemon are very rare. Those who show it kindness are given one of its feathers.

Wait, if this is a Ghost Pokemon dex, then why are you giving Pokemon that are already Ghost-types your art treatment?

I’m not! I’ve done some extras, but they don’t have dex entries.

It’s not a Shedinja entry, its a Ninjask retype.

My approach was to treat Shedinja as the ghost form of  Nincada, so I’ve taken heavy inspiration to make it work as a line.

Retyping Thoughts: Bug/Poison Frillish and Jellicent Bombacid Artillicent

Not all the type combos randomly rerolled are going to be standouts, and I was pretty disappointed to get this generic typing. Even if poison is my favorite type.

Once again had to go through the song and dance of finding an appropriate insect fill in for our formerly watery ghosts, and settled on the bombardier beetle. Curiously still absent from Pokemon’s canon lineup.

Bombacid wound up feeling pretty generic, even after multiple sketch attempts to give it more personality. I’m still not satisfied with it, and it is on the short list of designs I want to revisit maybe eventually.

Artillicent, on the other hand, came out bursting with character. I do adore the idea of acid so powerful that the Bunker Pokemon, as I have termed it, has to protect itself from the lethality of its own attack. That’s perfect over-exaggerated ‘dex entry material.

Hey quick announcement on my end I forgot to post. Next week I am starting classes. Which means I won't be as active here, or able to do as much art. This extends to Retyped Dex and Fusion AU. I have no plans to stop either, I am incredibly proud of them and excited to continue. But you may not see much of those for a while, my work takes priority here.
