regardless of idols individual feelings on being touched by strangers, if some fans are allowed to touch idols then the expectation has been set and fans will just assume that they can. these companies should set a hard rule of 'no touching'

fans should not be touching idols at fanmeetings at all... like that precedent should not exist at all

Twelve year ago, I started my first day at the Fruit. I’d been at Microsoft prior for six long, miserable years. I was great at my job and the year prior to leaving, was high on their “talent road map”; I wasn’t a super star but it was a job that no one else wanted to do, and I was pretty good at it.

My boss was a very traumatized, unhappy man in a miserable, sexless marriage. His wife had become a fundamentalist Catholic and he wanted to party and have a good time and did so with a lot of different women, including a contractor we all worked with. They’d leave the office and come back flushed and mussed, it was obvious they were together, both married and trying to hide their affair - kind of. at that point. I had been to Medjugorje and apparently at a party (I don’t really remember), talked to his wife about imy experience there. She must have told him so now, I was an enemy.

Bill’s administrative assistant was a gossip and told Bill that people in the office didn’t like he was having an affair with the vendor. He immediately said “Well if Diane has a problem with it, she can leave.” Stunned, She tried to defend me (I’d never said anything about it at all). I felt sick when she told me, and scared, we were all scared of Bill but we didn’t know how to help ourselves, he was protected. Two weeks later, my friend in HR took me out for drinks and told me in no uncertain terms, he was coming for me. I was nowhere on the road map, a few days prior to that, in a 1:1 he told me, “you’re good at your job, Diane. I just don’t like you.”

BND has also broken up wirh me and I was a walking zombie from that pain. He hated Microsoft and loved the Fruit, and I respected him a lot so as I sat in a Starbucks the next morning wondering what to do, I thought I’d just go on the fruit’s website to see about jobs. I never thought I’d leave Seattle, the thought to move terrified me but there was a moment during a convention, I was in San Francisco and thought “wow, what if I lived here, what a dream.”

There was a job for an international training manager for Retail.

I sent my resume to a former MSFT olleague who was at the Fruit who sent it to the VP. Turns out, they’d forgotten to take the job down but they’d just fired their training Director and were restructuring the team.

I was at my two of my best friends” house, Greg and Kristen, when the recruiter called. He had gotten me the job at MSft. She asked to set up time the next day. I hung up the phone, looked at Greg and said “I’m going to get this job.” Greg looked me and said, “I know.”

I went home that night and sold my furniture. I knew I was leaving. I can’t explain it but I knew it the second she called and that never wavered, it was a deep knowing in my soul. I had to be careful, I was working on the msft retail store project and had they known I was interviewing there, I would have been fired immediately and would have lost everything. Twelve secret interviews in, flying back and forth on “sick days”, I got another opportunity to interview there for another job but I knew I wanted the retsil one.

My last trip there, they told me “Diane, we all want you but there’s no real job. We have to totally start over with this team.” I told them I didn’t need a job description, I’d just come and help them start. They agreed. The VP of Retail walked me out saying “we have some people from msft here today” and I reminded him why that would be bad if anyone saw me.

We walked into the lobby and the entire sales and marketing team was theee. People I work with everyday. Stunned, they said “DiDi what are you doing here?” I made up and excuse and panicked all the way to the airport. Bill’s best friend called me and told me he could give me a few hours but he had to tell my boss.

I called the Fruit and said if you are giving me an offer, this needs to happen now. By 10pm, I had it. Then my boss’s admin texted saying bill has set time eith HR the next morning to fire me but I managed to get in 15m before his spot and resign. HR was elated, as everyone despised him, he was an abusive, sexist, volatile asshole.

We crossed each other in the hall. He grimaced saying “yeah, you’re fired.” I said “I actually just resigned effective today.” Stunned, he was silent and finally said “nicely done.” We had a champagne toast and then I was escorted out by a security guard.

There’s so much more that happened, so much more to write but my mantra that entire time was “I am safe. I am loved. I am free.” Today I am bringing that mantra back into my life.

I’m safe, I am loved, I am free. Happy 12 year anniversary to me.

Gavin caved, and now we are opening Retsil up and other places on Friday. I will confess to holding so much rage at these protestors, I found myself wanting them to get sick wirh COVID. Wanting to punish them. It’s not ok, it’s so dark but they are dangerous and they don’t know it or know it and don’t care. I cannot imagine if Trump wins again. I’m trying not to.
