Thank you so much to @retrosofa for not only letting me color this, but also providing me with high-quality copies of the original drawing! Be sure to check out his magical girl zine!
I had a blast coloring this. I've never colored any of the PGSM-exclusive characters before so it was fun to venture out of my comfort zone.
This month on the podcast: Go Nagai's sexy android magical girl recently celebrated her 50th anniversary, so what better time to discuss Cutey Honey?! And with me to talk all about her is returning guest & Honey Superfan Salvatore (@retrosofa)! We'll be going over the history of Honey, the different versions she's gone thru over the years, and what makes her so special.
Got any questions, comments, or topics you’d like to hear us discuss? Feel free to leave a comment or send them via email to me at [email protected]!

It was a pleasant surprise to see Re: Cutie Honey has been picked up by Discotek for a US blu-ray release this year (including an English dub and other goodies).
While Re: is not my favourite incarnation of CH, it does have some great elements and Retrosofa helped contribute to the release so you know it has consistency with other Cutie Honey releases from the company (and a dedicated fan's touch). I know I'll be adding it to my (extremely cramped) collection of blu-ray releases when it hits shelves!
On that topic, one of the things that I noticed was brought up quite a bit in Discotek's twitch stream today by fans regarding licenses was "more old magical girls" with examples being Cutey Honey Flash, Mermaid Melody, Tokyo Mew Mew, etc. (all of which were mentioned by folks in the chat, not the guys from Discotek themselves -- though there was a moment of confusion brought about by the use of "Honey... Flash!")
The Discotek team asked everyone who is interested in titles like this to order releases like their upcoming Saint Tail complete blu-ray set (scheduled for April 2023) because the unfortunate reality is that they can't distribute what doesn't sell.
I'm as broke as anyone else, but if physical media released in English is important to you and you do want more of these older, less marketable titles, I have to say "buy similar titles to your faves when you can." Companies like Discotek can only justify picking up things like kids shows and magical girl titles if there's an audience keen to buy them. So if it's feasible for you to do so, definitely purchase the next BD set from them that interests you.
Hey guys, my boyfriend's bike got stolen the other day. We're trying to get him a new one. If you buy me a coffee on Ko-fi I'll draw you a cute b&w sketch of your choice.
When you buy a coffee please include the character you'd like me to sketch or you can also message me. Thanks!
UPDATE: We hit our goal! Thank you guys so much! I’ll have sketches out in the next week.

Retro Fusion means linking vintage and Retro home styles with modern materails and styles to create visually a tradiotion look but with a modern twist
Classic Styles ReStyled
Retro Fusion Home Decor
The success of made.com has to be in part put down to the fact that they have managed to produce a succssion of furniture that has inspiration from the past. The traditional retro styles give that sense of cool elegance celebrating our parents styles but with a modern twist. Its this retro fusion that is making home interiors pure excitment. The reason being is that Retro Fusion can cover everything from wallpaper, carpets, sofas and decor.
Hipsters Inspire Retro Fusion
Image from brainworldmagazine.com/
In London the rise of the Hipsters culture means its unfashionable to have shiny new styles, its cool to have objects in your home that could be aged, maybe from charity shops.
"The term ‘hipster’ encompasses everything that is quirky, creative and bang on trend. Hipsters have wholeheartedly embraced a minimalist trend and style that’s effortlessly more creative than the mainstream trends"Quote from therugseller.co.uk/
Embracing a hipster home means mismatching several different trends and styles. The beauty of this look is that it mixes different design ideas – like classic and cool – with little thought or planning. The trend is influenced by a limited budget and vintage outlook.
Typical Retro Fusion Sofas
Chesterfield sofas are a typical celebration of past designs put into modern day home decor.
It is believed that Lord Phillip Stanhope, the 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773), commissioned the first leather chesterfield settee with its distinctive deep buttoned, quilted leather upholstery and low seat base. Aside from being a much-admired politician and writer, patron of Voltaire, the Earl was a known trendsetter. Today modern designers are creating the designs in all materials with some outstanding results. These classic styles with a modern twist are increasingly popular and here to stay. The designs stand the test of time and add some classic styling to any home.

Vintage Fusion Light Bulbs
Filament light bulbs retro fusion example
Who would have thought that we would admire lighting created in the 50's and 60's. The age of poor inefficient lighting with electrical wires on show and dim glowing bulbs. These are a fantastic example of Retro Fusion, the style of the past using the technology of the day
Commercial use of retro lighting
Retro Clock True Retro Fusion
Retro Clocks
1960s and 1970s was in some cases a dodgy era for design, the beauty of using vintage designs is that you can pick the designs that would look great today. Classic clocks are so popular the all major home decor stores will feature a wide range of clocks

This is probably is more in the “art-style” category than “animation”, but I really love that cel-shaded 80′s anime aesthetic
I like the more cartoony and bouncy animation style (like in Little Witch Academia) that’s been showing up in more modern anime too. But every time I watch an 80′s anime movie I’m always in awe of how pretty it is.
One time I was watching the 80′s Transformers movie with a friend and she was laughing at how much I would call certain shots pretty (I was like ‘this was animated by Toei wasn’t it??’)
Double pic upload today, but happy birthday to @retrosofa! I haven’t drawn anything in awhile, so here’s the last pic I drew of his OCs from his Valentine comic. . . . #retrosofa #ohmyvalentine #valentine #ocs #originalcharacters (at Funimation Entertainment) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Pqi-MAEf-/?igshid=ojzmfh09m9ov
Thanks for reviewing the Classic Collection, I have yet to pick it up. I'm disappointed to see Seven Seas is releasing the "George Lucas" edition of Devilman. The fan translations are based off the original run. Most editions have scenes removed, extra scenes added in, plus Shin Devilman. It sucks. :/
yeah, i wanted to do a review on it since $30 is a fairly hefty sum and i think some people were waiting for the classic collection to come out to read the manga since manga websites can be rather sketchy sometimes. i am very disappointed that important scenes have been cut (especially since it was to allow room for shin devilman, which is garbage), but what can you do besides warn people
BIG TAKEAWAY: PLEASE DON’T READ THE CLASSIC COLLECTION IF YOU ARE A FIRST-TIME DEVILMAN READER. if you are reading the manga for the first time, please use these resources here to read it online so you can get the full story.

This year, Go Nagai's magical super heroine turned 50 years old! So what better time to have an episode in her honor? And joining me to talk all about her is No. 1 English-speaking Cutie Honey Fan (who has worked on many official American Cutie Honey releases!), Salvatore (aka @retrosofa)! We discuss not only the history of the franchise, but how even though Honey is a pulpy, sexy, and sometimes goofy Magical Girl originally created for boys, she influenced the Magical Girl genre in all sorts of ways we're still seeing today! Also in this episode: the decades-long argument of if Honey even counts as a magical girl, the appeal of giant Go Nagai monster women, and answering all your questions in this extra-long episode!

Yeah, I thought so too. I can't remember how Kanemitsu identities, or what pronouns they use. But I do know they don't identify as gay, and do want to have reassignment surgery. Their subplot is a little strange (with the family drama) and I'm not sure why Go has them appear twice. The origins of the monsters his sisters are engaged to aren't full explained either, if I remember correctly. :/
I was happy to see them again, i guess its nice to see that all the stories are quite just up one and done and can be called back upon.
Dracula and the Wolfman just wanted in on some money is all, castle debts or something im sure.
I just realised we never see Jill die in TD, i mean seemingly she does given the confrontation between the last time we see her and Honey and then the explosion, but like what happens there?
