Eric Hibbeler

Eric Hibbeler is an American illustrator, animator and concept artist. He is known for his board game art, such as the art for Disney’s Space Mountain, Sky Team, The Goonies: Never Say Die, Tether, and more from large companies.

Hibbeler uses foregrounds and backgrounds very well to create dimension in the piece. This adds visual interest and additional context. It also adds to the aesthetic value through this additional information and overall creates a more interesting composition through leading the viewer’s eyes around the scene to direct their attention to the middle of the scene, where the character is as the main focus. This is also where the text is, so this will therefore be the first thing a viewer sees. He also uses techniques such as the rule of thirds, where important information sits on each of the thirds. Composition wise, these are the points that create the most balance. Utilising negative space around these points creates a more visually pleasing and balanced image as our gaze is more drawn to them specifically. He also uses colour contrast and complimentary colours to make certain parts stand out, such as the text.

The text is bold, bright and clear. This is good for box art, as it clearly and blatantly displays the name of the game. The text is also reminiscent of retro styles and 1920s pulp, which compliments the aesthetic. The theme of the game is playing as a mafia boss whose objective is to take control of the city. The distortion of the font fits well into the composition, leaving nothing behind it giving it its own space, helping it stand out further.

The drawings aren’t particularly realistic, but for a board game this works well. The work is lineless, the colours are bold and the textures are done well to make it look stylised. This tells the viewers the game may be less complex and less serious in theme, and the dynamic design implies an action packed gameplay experience.

I believe the audience is late teenagers, due to the clear themes of gambling and crime displayed on the box art.

I think this box art is great and very eye catching, it’s something I wound definitely consider picking up. I really love the use of colour.

Henning Ludvigsen

Henning Ludvigsen is a freelance digital illustrator who specialises in board game art and design. Since 2005, he has contributed to nearly 400 board games, producing art for the board, box art, character cards and more. He has worked with many large and well known companies and IP's, including Marvel, Disney, Netflix and DC.

Ludvigsen's work is quite detailed and realistic. He utilises light and colour to keep his own style whilst still looking realistic. I personally really like his style and it works well for board games, as using illustrations is more suitable than using photographs. His character work is still very expressive and stylised whilst being realistic, he as a good use of semirealism to capture a person's likeness whilst still looking like an illustration. His use of bright colours such as the character's eyes keep the charm of his style in his work. This is notable in Guess Who?: High School Reunion.

His work for the board itself is also impressive. I really like his board and the illustrations he made for different rooms in CLUE.

Comparison

Compared to Eric Hibbeler, Henning Ludvigsen's character work is much more realistic. Hibbeler's work is more stylised and graphic, whilst Ludvigsen's is more realistic and painterly. This makes Ludvigsen's work more suitable for games targeted at an older audience or for games with more serious topics, such as CLUE. Additionally, his colour palettes are more muted compared to Hibbeler who uses vibrant and solid colours. Whilst being in the same industry, they both have distinct styles that make them recognisable and more suitable for different types of games.

Ananya Birla plans to purchase 10,000 Adipurush tickets.

Ananya Birla is following in the steps of Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and The Kashmir Files producer Abhishek Agarwal by giving away 10,000 tickets to the eagerly anticipated movie Adipurush to underprivileged kids.

The world premiere of this Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage starrer magnum opus, produced by Bhushan Kumar and directed by Om Raut, is set for June 16, 2023. One can easily infer from the trailer and songs that this movie isn’t just made for entertainment but also to raise awareness about the glorious period in Indian history! Ananya Birla contributed to this by taking action to ensure that everyone can enjoy this cinematic experience.

These 10,000 donated tickets will be distributed to various organisations that aid underprivileged children. Ananya Birla is renowned for using mental healthcare, financial inclusion, and education to enlighten and support those who need it most.
