My service dog is retiring and it sucks

Well after 2 years of training and a little more than 3 years of service, my service dog is being retired. A bump randomly appeared a week ago on her front leg that didn’t go away and after xrays and tests we found that she has an aggressive form of bone cancer.

So she is now retired and is going to be living out her last months in as much comfort as possible and she can break all the rules she wants. She even gets people food.

I have no prospect at the moment and am torn between focusing all my leftover energies (which ain’t much) on her or looking for a new prospect. I hate this. I really hate this.

So what exactly is a Paroled Pet? PPP is best known for our service dogs but we also have a program that rescues dogs and cats and prepares them for adoption as a companion pet! Paroled Pets come from a variety of backgrounds- homeless pets🐕🐈, retired service dogs, owner-surrenders, and even service dogs-in-training 🐕‍🦺 that don’t pass a physical exam to name a few. This program allows us to enhance the incarcerated women’s training by gaining experience in working with a variety of dogs and cats and building their confidence. Through this work we are also able to provide a strong foundation in basic obedience training, AKC Canine Good Citizenship certification and excellent socialization time to animals that need our help to find a forever home. 🐾 PPP Paroled Pets make incredible furry family members after receiving their second chance in life along with their incarcerated human. We’ll be spending the next month updating you on recent Paroled Pet adoptions. Daily Gratitude: Day 21 A long time ago, back when I'd first gotten Mojo, I taught him a trick for a photoshoot and anchored it to the command "raise the roof". Heading into the woods for a short walk this afternoon. As I've mentioned before, Molly's hips aren't what they used to be so she's had to mostly retire from service dog work. This also means that when my mom goes on extra long hikes, Molly has to be left behind. She really wanted a walk though, so when it seemed like my mom was far enough out molly and I went for a short ramble up the road, wandered through the woods where the paths are more complex than past seasons, and down the pipeline. Staying on the top of the mountain like this made the short ramble accessible for both Molly and I. Also helping was that I had wrapped my right ankle with an ace bandage as a brace. It really helped vs the way that my joints have been acting up stretchy wise lately.
