#restricting your reading to only 1st person pov

not going to lie, I think sooner or later some of you will have to come to terms with the fact that ALWAYS needing to completely relate and/or only seeing YOURSELF in the characters you read about/play as/watch in movies, can not only severely impact your critical thinking as a whole but also have very real consequences irl when you are suddenly introduced to struggles or issues you didn’t and maybe won’t ever face. suddenly your empathy is stunted 'cause you never really tried to put yourself in some else’s shoes, not even fictionally
#ari.txt#text#this is of course a generalization but still something i've found myself thinking about often#the growing obsession with the little things in fiction#restricting your reading to only 1st person pov#making ocs that only look like you again and again#choosing to engage with characters in an ensamble based on who looks like you the most#refusing to extend any type of curiosity towards people who are written differently who may be difficult to relate to in the beginning#all of these things on their own are NOT bad per se#but i'm starting to see a pattern emerging as of late and it got me thinking#especially considering we are living in a time where people are shamelessy using arguments that sounds like#what does it have to do with me / they wouldn't approve of me or my sexuality / they worship a different god / have a different skin color#to justify a literal gen*cide#i was hesitant to even post cause as per usual i hate to express more complex thoughts in english which i find severely lacking#but maybe someone else will find it even slightly relevant

****REQUESTS FOR THIS EVENT ARE NOW CLOSED****
Hello, friends ❤️ I hope you are all having a good week!
As I mentioned in my latest update, I am opening requests for a mini Ikemen Prince writing event: my Grab-bag Prompt List! Below the cut line you will find a list of genres & dialogue prompts I've recycled from abandoned WIPs. Help me give these scribbles a second chance to tell a story!
Each piece will be a short ficlet between 500 - 1000 words set in the middle of the story (no intro, and no ending). Please read the following guidelines before making a request. And remember this is all for fun, so mix and match and make it a challenge if you'd like!
❓ How to make a request❓
Submit your request as an ask in the following format: Character(s) / Prompt # / Genre / POV
You may list up to 2 characters in your request, not including a reader if you choose 2nd POV.
Only 1 dialogue prompt and 1 genre and 1 POV allowed per request. (Please note that 2nd POV will be written as a female reader)
You're free to keep your ask as plainly as above: Leon / 5 / Comedy / 2nd OR add some more detail for me: Licht, Nokto / 7 / Adventure / 1st Licht's POV. They're about to go to battle.
❓ Rules❓
I will only be accepting the first 6 requests that follow the above guidelines.
One request per person please!
All requests and writings will be SFW. Any triggering content will be listed in the header and tags once the fic is posted.
I reserve the right to refuse any prompts that I cannot fulfill. I will also be crossing off characters, prompts, and genres as they arrive so we don't get duplicates.
**Please understand that I set these restrictions to give as even a chance for anyone to request their favorites and myself the time to give each story the attention it deserves. Thank you all in advance for your interest and your understanding, now on to the prompts!

The Love-Hate Relationship with Stelliums (Pt. 1) ✨
Guysss pls remember that astrology is holistic and this should be read taking into account your overall chart placements, as well as the planets in your stellium and what sign rules your stellium. TAKE NOTE lol
1st house
❤️: You may be a person who is very driven towards a particular goal, single-minded in behavior and with a sense of determination that is hard to beat. The focus is on self-improvement and is rather internally driven - there can be large amounts of time focused on figuring one’s identity out. You’re not afraid to say things as they are - you’re able to dish out criticism hard but you give credit when its due. You extend the courtesy you receive to others. You may have an innate sense of wisdom that you keep deep within that you don’t let slip unless to extremely close ones but in times of hardship you are a good source of motivation. You always seek to improve yourself and it’s hard (if not impossible) to drag you down because of your strong personality and how you tend to always move on no matter what. I think 1st house stelliums are the embodiment of “don’t look back” and y’all always try to make the best out of every best situation, sort of like seeing the silver lining in everything. And also when crises emerge you’re able to keep a calm head on your shoulders and are good at making snap decisions, which makes you good on your feet!
: I don’t think y’all are as self-absorbed as ppl make you out to be but there’s definitely an element of self-centredness such that when you do something, you often consider what is most convenient or productive for you. You might get upset when your plans are disrupted but sometimes do the same to others even though you might be aware of what you’re doing - in that aspect, 1st house stelliums can be hypocritical. For you, there is never enough - you’re never satisfied with anything, be it yourself or for other things so you can seem really unappreciative. Keep in mind that you also tend to force others to agree with you and don’t be so quick to dismiss the other party’s POV no matter how dumb it seems. Remember that there’s always something to learn from other people, no matter their status. You need to work on expressing your appreciation to others in a more genuine manner (altho I know y’all do it in gruff, slightly awkward ways when sincere - kinda cute ngl).
2nd house
❤️: You may be a person who has a strong moral code and has a staunch value system that you won’t deviate from no matter what. Sense of loyalty is usually unbreakable and it can take a lot to truly anger you. You can have a good financial sense and good instincts/foresight that allow you to plan ahead for stability’s sake. More often than not in certain areas you are a master of categorising and structuring things which means that your mind is analytical, critical and (usually) organised. You hate it when people think they know you because you (understandably) know yourself the best - there are many privatised layers of yourself that you prefer to keep... private so yeah it just annoys you when that happens. Y’all are a leader in certain aspects of your life and even though 2nd house stelliums tend to prefer being the right-hand man, your control freak tendencies come out and you end up leading anyway. You become really productive because of the fear of failure - you have crazy high expectations for yourself and expect the same of your closed ones (although ultimately you’ll support them in whatever they do). There is an appreciation for the finer things in life and when it comes to your loved ones you’re not afraid to spoil them hard.
👹: Be careful not to let this driving need for stability restrict you from spontaneity and following your heart’s desire. There is an inherent inflexibility in your nature; stubbornness can really be your kryptonite. You don’t really take any opportunities that you think might threaten your security which, while giving you a stable fort, can hold you back in your own happiness + prosperity. You might realise that there is a limit to your perspective but really struggle in seeing outside of that perspective mainly because you spend so much time thinking about what matters to you that you’ve become accustomed to your train of thought (altho when you do break it it’s lowkey groundbreaking). The focus on this house is on stability, not only on material wealth, so while you may be reaping in one aspect you might tend to lack on the spiritual or emotional elements of life. You can be very, very controlling and demanding so you might want to tone it down a little if not people might get the wrong impression. People might think of you as judgemental (and you are tbh) but I believe it’s just 2nd house stellium’s way of assessing a person’s character/abilities.
3rd house
❤️: You may be a person who puts in a lot of effort into various forms of self-expression (not limited to verbal communication but also finding a specific niche such as music, art, writing etc.) Your brain is naturally sharp and inquisitive and you may be able to pick things up very quickly. You might be rather adaptable but are surprisingly stubborn when it comes to your opinion or intellectual capabilities. You might have a dark/dirty sense of humor and because of that you also have a keen ability to see past the societal nuances of propriety and get to the heart/root of whatever a person is saying. You can spend your entire life trying to understand people and why things work the way they work - your brain needs to be stimulated in order for you to feel alive. Passion for you has to be applied in a productive manner - you probably aren’t a person to just take a passion for something as a mere hobby. Rather, you would either apply that passion to one of your existing projects, create a new one or use it as a motivating factor. Your interests are wide and varied, which makes you really well-rounded in certain aspects!
👹: Many people say y’all are flighty beings and I can certainly see why they would think so. Because of your perceptiveness, you tend to change your narrative whenever you’re speaking to different people, so as to make yourself sound more convincing. In that aspect, you can be quite manipulative. Your ego probably isn’t the smallest either haha - you can tolerate being slighted at some things but if it’s a challenge to one of your passion projects you’ll probably become very upset. You need to stop giving people the hot and cold shoulder all the time and even though you’re quite sociable you tend to flaunt but hide your true thoughts. You have to be more open and honest in your self-expression, and not that idealised, constructed version of yourself you think people will find interesting. I’ve noticed that 3rd house stellium ppl have an obsessive need to “stand out” and make themselves feel unique which, despite all your charms and popularity, might be the reason why you find yourself sometimes so isolated. You’re a perfectionist (although you would deny it) and secretly quite controlling but unlike other stelliums you can manage it better I feel.
4th house
❤️: There is a pressing insistence regarding relationships in your inner circle - be it your family, closest friends, or your future family. Extended focus on your cultural heritage can also be possible. Deep down, compassion is at your core and you are very protective of your friends in a silent but aggressive way. Having a stable family life is very important to you but I’ve noticed that more often than not, 4th house stelliums have turbulent family relationships. The beauty of 4th house stelliums is their ability to break through whatever toxic relationships they’ve been in and to create families of their own - be it unconventional or not. They are the epitome of “we choose our own families”. Y’all can be very empathetic and rather selfless to the point where you allow yourself to be manipulated (even though you’re aware of it) - but it’s usually for a justifiable reason. You find it easier than most to balance the emotional landscape but there are moments where you need an outlet to express yourself. There can be an obsession/possessiveness over your own culture - you take pride in your roots and become lowkey insulted when people disrespect it (and if you don’t, you somehow nearly always manage to find some other culture to assimilate yourself in).
👹: Y’all probably get very upset when things don’t go your way but the problem with this stellium is that there is a want to speak out but you choose to bury everything inside instead - giving you a very passive-aggressive and even aloof image. Internally, you guys might think that you are giving off a very soft/giving aura but some people are wary precisely because you are hard to read. You are very, intensely private (rivalling 2nd/7th house tbh) and you have to learn how to share your true thoughts, no bullshit, no suger-coated thoughts with your family and dearest friends even though you are capable of handling yourself. You are independent, ambitious, and people often underestimate you, but you have to let people in first in order for them to know what you’re capable of! Also, idealisation of certain things (eg. a future family life/partner) can be prevalent and you overthink things to the point where sometimes you make yourself miserable. Again, please talk to someone hahaha you don’t have to deal with everything yourself.
5th house
❤️: Insecurity runs rampant in any 5th house stellium BUT y’all are quite paradoxical in a sense that you also have a very strong aura of confidence. Sometimes, in crucial moments, you manage to convince yourself and others that you are the most important person in the room haha - literally the epitome of “fake it till you make it”. Still, a deeply rooted kindness is found in 5th house stelliums such that you’re always looking out for the underdog in the room. If you are developed you probably have a strong sense of righteousness which prompts you to look out for people who might be struggling. Y’all are very concerned about your physical appearance and most of the time you like to keep your body in good shape, which draws the attention of people in the room. You likely have an infectious smile (this is just a hunch but I don’t believe 5th house stelliums smile a lot - y’all quirk your lips or smirk but a true smile is rare so when you do... it melts the hearts of people). Everything that you do will have a youthful flavor and you have a healthy appreciation for downtime/self-care so while you might not (contrary to popular belief) be that fond of kids, kids are attracted to you. Oh and actually I think the stronger this stellium is in a person, the shyer the person seems at first impression but inwardly and as time goes by, they become more humorous and dramatic.
👹: You aren’t exactly manipulative, but you know how to use the power of suggestion (and your charms) to get what you want. If unchecked, it’ll become a habit because to you, it’s an instinctive thing to do and you might not realise you’re hurting other people because of it. You are stubborn and prideful (which isn’t a bad thing sometimes but) you take criticism quite badly such that if a person tries to offer their opinion or goes against your beliefs, you might take it as a personal attack. You have a fear of being restrained/constricted (like 9th house) so you’re actually quite aggressive to those who you perceive to be a threat to your authority. You can also experience extreme mood swings (from crazy happy/hyper to melancholic in a snap) and when you do you expect people to give you attention. But you are hypocritical in this aspect because you yourself can be quite insensitive to other people’s feelings, or you brush them off if you’re not “in the mood”.
6th house
❤️: You are most probably quite an organised person, not in a tidy way (although you could be) but in matters of life there’s an insistence on order and structure. The way you think can be very logical - you are able to think concisely and connect the dots in a quick manner and logic is probably prevalent in everything you do. However, in contrast to this pragmatic behavior, you are deeply caring and you won’t think twice to give up something if a loved one needs it. You are very disciplined in certain aspects of life and you are able to maintain a consistent effort in everything that you do. You’re probably someone who finds joy in small things and although you have high standards, it doesn’t take much to make you happy, as long as it’s genuine. You can be a perfectionist and really quite meticulous in your work which makes you someone who is detail-orientated. You give a lot of yourself to other people and most of the time you don’t expect anything in return, which is one of the great things about 6th house stelliums. You take effort into maintaining your physical health and you mighttt be a fitness freak or someone who keeps track of their diet really carefully. It’s likely that you encourage other people to follow your lifestyle and generally, you exert a sort of mellow influence around other people that makes them want to be better.
👹: There’s a tendency for 6th house stelliums to fall into pessimism, precisely because of your pragmatic nature. Y’all may say that you’re being “realistic” but in actuality it does dampen the spirits of some people. You can also become really unreasonable and inflexible once you’ve made up your mind on something and that makes you a bit narrow minded because you simply refuse to listen to other people’s POV. This can also cause tunnel vision which can really limit your full potential and I think it’s something worth spending your time working on. When pushed into a corner or feeling insecure, y’all might try to cover it up by being condescending or giving the cold shoulder. There’s also a risk of being overly reliant on a schedule/structure and hence, cautiousness when it comes to being spontaneous or embracing something foreign. Because of your affinity towards maintaining health, your hypochondriac tendencies may be exacerbated and you need to try to lessen your over-worrying behaviour haha. Although you never dish out something you can’t receive (eg. high expectations - you’re truly your worst critic), your demanding tone can really make others cautious of you.
OVERALL, I strongly believe that the way to embrace your stelliums isn’t to reject or force yourself to change the values they represent, but rather taking those eccentricities and moulding it into something more precious and beneficial to yourself. It has to be done with a thorough understanding of yourself; with patience.

Do you prefer the light novels, manga or anime of Hamefura overall? I'm curious because there are slight differences between them that you've highlighted before. On a side note, I enjoy your analysis and I hope you are doing well!
Thank you!! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my analysis of Hamefura 😊
That means a lot to me!
Sorry, for the delay – but it takes me a while to gather my thoughts and write out them out and then organize them coherently.
Potential Spoilers Below.
I would say that I’ve enjoyed the Manga the most and therefore I prefer it. If I only had a choice between one of them, it would be the Manga.
However, I still really like and greatly enjoy the Light Novels and Anime and all three together form my overall experience and enjoyment of the story.
All three have their strengths and weaknesses and things I like and dislike.
Manga
The Manga has a huge benefit of being a visual medium. There’s a lot more show, than tell in comparison to the Light Novel. Which is always better for a story, in my opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, I love reading books, but I feel like the Light Novels don’t really succeed in helping to visualize the story. Though maybe that’s because I’ve already been exposed to the story, through the Manga and the first few episodes of the anime before I started reading them.
The overall pacing in the Manga is a lot smoother in comparison to the other two. I think it has the best flow out of the three.
The Manga has done a very good job of not only adapting the story, but improving upon it.
The humor is also excellent in the Manga. By far the best. Truly superb.
Some of the humor or scenes of Katarina’s density in the Light Novels comes across as a bit awkward and forced, to the point that I’m pulled out of the story.
While in the Manga those same scenes feel a whole lot more natural and don’t disconnect me from my reading of the story.
While the Anime certainly has its own funny scenes, some of the scenes in the manga were a whole lot funnier than they have been in the Anime.
Largely, I think, due to the exaggeration and separation of panels, that focus on a specific detail or motion of a character. One of the best examples is what I’m going to call the Shaded Expression.
Though, in the most recent episode when Katarina’s mother confronts Katarina about her field at school – the Shaded Expressions between those two were very good.
That being said, I think there’s something funnier about the Manga highlighting and emphasizing physical motions and actions.
Take for instant, the same scene above but in the Manga - it’s immensely funnier (to me).
Just look at this fantastic entrance by Duchess Claes.
That extra bit of exaggeration and emphasis really sells the humor.
The Hamefura Manga really excels at leaving enough to the reader’s imagination, but still focuses enough on the details and emphasizing what’s important that the reader is never lost.
Which lots of panel-comic based stories can easily fail at. I think getting that balance just right is a lot harder than people think, so it’s always impressive when it’s done well.
Basically, the Manga is excellent.
I’ve reread the Manga multiple times as of now and I have yet to grow tired or bored of it.
In fact, I’m still noticing new details. When the characters return to school for the fall/winter, Katarina is wearing a fall/winter version of her outfit, with long sleeves. I never noticed that before, so that was a fun.
Now, I do think the Manga has focused on some details from the Light Novels that aren’t really that important. The number of panels dedicated to Katarina preparing for school, do seem like a lot, for instance. And I wonder if the Manga should’ve focused on another scene or aspect of the story.
While I can understand why certain scenes from the Light Novels were cut, some are quite disappointing.
The best one I can think of, is the after-birthday party gathering with Katarina’s friends. It’s the end of the First Light Novel. It’s just an excellent scene the showcases the group’s dynamic to a wonderful and hilarious degree and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see it either in the Manga or Anime.
Also, while we get to see inside the other characters’ minds from time-to-time and the Manga has expanded upon Katarina’s very limited first person POV from the initial story, we still miss out on the inner mechanisms of the other characters.
Perhaps separate from that or because of it, the group dynamics don’t seem as strong in the Manga, in comparison to the Light Novel.
In the manga, Keith is really Geordo’s most present and consistent rival, which leaves out Mary who plays a prominent role as Geordo’s detractor and rival as well. Similarly, the whole group operates on preventing Geordo and Katarina getting closer. Which is a very funny dynamic, that the Manga unfortunately leaves out.
So, while I do prefer the Manga, it’s not without its flaws. Especially in regards to what it chose to keep and throw away from the Light Novels.
That being said, I have greatly enjoyed the Manga and highly recommend it to anyone.
Light Novels
The Light Novels, in some areas have more detail and context, that gives the story more life and texture. Which makes me glad that I read the Manga first, because from my perspective I’m not losing detail/scenes, but gaining them (with this “extra” material).
While they’re not always important details to the story, they often help with the world-building. Though I don’t blame the Manga for cutting out some scenes or details, because they aren’t necessary and or can hinder the flow.
So, I think in that way both the Light Novels and Manga provide a fuller story together.
One obvious benefit of the Light Novels, is that we have the inclusion of the POVs from other characters – which are great.
The Manga does give us glimpses into the other characters, but that’s just what they are – glimpses.
The Light Novelz explores the other characters a lot more and overall a lot deeper in comparison -- even though each character really only gets 1-2 chapters of their POV in the first two Light Novels altogether.
Geordo’s thoughts during his first meeting/introduction with Katarina are much more “Black-Hearted” than I thought they were from the Manga or Anime, based on his outward appearance alone.
So, the Light Novel (from my perspective) gives new depth and perspective on Geordo, that I wasn’t even aware existed.
After reading his POV, it makes a whole lot more sense that he’s described as a Black-hearted Prince. I now have a much clearer view on who Geordo is and because of that – the difference in how he is with Katarina, from before and after he met her, to how he thinks and feels about her alone is a lot a more substantial.
Furthermore, the extra look into each character before and after they meet Katarina and befriend her is just everything.
While the manga and anime don’t shy away from the angst of their backstories, the Light Novel explores it to a genuinely sadder degree - Maria, Alan, Sophia and Anne’s stories have a lot more depth to them in the Light Novels.
Anne’s POV also has her perception and take on everyone’s feelings for Katarina. Which is really nice and just adds on another dimension to the harem.
We also get to see how other people actually perceive Katarina. And while this was already pretty obvious, Katarina’s projections on how other people think of her are WAY OFF.
That I’ve greatly enjoyed. Because while Katarina is certainly a dense, goofball – that’s not how people first view her nor is it how they only perceive her.
I’ve really liked that, because it’s concrete evidence that Katarina’s perception of herself runs negative and she’s not a reliable narrator when it comes to herself.
And there are a few scenes omitted from the Manga, that are really fun and enjoyable. And give a greater look into the group’s dynamic and make it actually feel like they have been a group of friends (/rivals) for years.
For instance, at the end of the first two Light Novels, Katarina and her friends gathered together in her field. We get to see them slightly competing with each other and trying to get some of Katarina’s attention, with her being none the wiser.
But the Light Novels aren’t exactly perfect – there are inconsistencies (that while small) bothered me.
One example: on one-page Katarina says that Maria’s hometown is far away from the capital, but then basically in the following page, she says it’s not that far away from the capital.
It’s also very odd to me that some characters don’t receive names.
Maria’s mother and the girl who people thought was going to be Geordo’s fiancée before Katarina came along.
Neither is a major character, but it’s weird that Katarina just think of the latter as ‘that girl’ not Celeste Thorne or some other name.
A lot of the world-building issues that exist in the Manga and Anime, clearly stem from the Light-Novels. And while the focus is obviously on Katarina and her friends and the reverse-harem dynamic, it’s still a problem.
Also, in the Light Novels it’s a very close 1st Person POV. Which for the most part is done well, but it can easily feel off and forced at times.
It’s clear that the POV is a very restricted to 1st Person.
So, it’s odd that we get full on conversations from other characters (that do add to the story and are needed) from Katarina’s POV – and yet somehow she has no idea what they’re talking about or even what they are saying…and it just makes her feel way too dense.
I know the Manga, does the same thing with Katarina not realizing what people are talking about - but because the Manga’s POV is a lot less limited, it feels more organic.
We can see a conversation that’s happening around Katarina, that she’s not paying attention to or following or having her own internal dialogue alongiside it – so it makes sense that while we the audience clearly know what’s happening with the conversation, Katarina doesn’t.
That being said. I’ve greatly enjoyed the Light Novels and getting a new perspective on the story and a more in-depth look into the other characters.
Anime
I think the anime excels at bridging the Light Novel scenes and Manga scenes together in a coherent way.
One example, in the 1st Light Novel in Alan’s POV we have Geordo state that Katarina is his fiancée. We don’t have that scene in the Manga, but instead of giving us the exact scene from the Light Novel, we do get a similar one in a slightly different context in the Anime.
The Anime is adding its own twist – which I appreciate.
And given some of the trailers and pictures of future episodes, it seems like there will be more content in the anime, than I initially thought. Scenes not only from the Manga, but also the Light Novel, and of course scenes that seem unique to the anime itself.
Which is really fun and I’m looking forward to seeing them. So, in that way I think the anime has a unique advantage.
I know the story from the Manga, I got a deeper look into the story from the Light Novel (to varying degrees) and now I get to see what the Anime has decided to do with all of that.
So far, I have liked the extra stuff the anime has added.
-- The Orientation Assembly, where we have Geordo noticing Katarina not paying attention and Geordo inviting her over.
-- Meeting Katarina before she regains her memories.
-- The name and language of the country – Sorcier. Seeing the unique language of the country.
-- See Katarina being very aware of Maria before they even meet.
-- Sophia and Mary’s types of magic are established (which were never included, at least not in the Manga).
And so on.
Overall, I would say the anime really does well with combining the Light Novels and the Manga together. The best example up to this point, would be the most recent episode – “I Visited The Heroine’s Parents’ House”
While, the two chapters are right next to each other in the manga.
I thought the episode did a very good job of combining Katarina and Maria becoming proper friends and the Claes Siblings visiting Maria during Summer Vacation + Maria and her mother’s POVs from the Light Novels + unique anime scenes.
Unique Anime Scenes - We see the adult women talking about Maria being ‘famous and special’ and that at first doesn’t seem like a bad thing (though it is) but then we get the addition of the two girls whispering to one another and then them asking Keith and Katarina’s about who Maria’s real father is.
Similar, to how the Manga is more show than tell over the Light Novel – the anime is following that progression. Being the most show and less tell. Which, again, is much better for a story in my opinion.
While I could be wrong, given the most recent episode (I visited...) plus the pictures from future episodes and the trailer – it seems safe to assume that Katarina’s Summer Adventures with her friends from the Manga/Light Novel will be intersperse in her school life in the Anime.
And I can see that pacing being a lot smoother, because it’s more spread out, thus, giving us more time with each character and Katarina’s relationship with them.
I also think the anime has establish its own comedic flow and I have laughed at their scenes.
So, while, I don’t think the anime has had a 100% success rate in adapting the comedic aspects of the Manga to animation, when it does its own scenes or its own way of showcasing a scene, it can work to its own advantage.
Also, the voice acting.
Maaya Uchida as Katarina Claes was an excellent choice. I think she’s doing a fantastic job with Katarina, to the point while the others are not bad in the slightest, I feel like the perfect match up of Maaua Uchida and Katarina Claes just outshines them.
My main criticism is that the anime has struggled in finding its own footing and pacing. Now I think that has improved a lot in the past two episodes – which yay!!, but it’s still been a problem for me.
It also makes me a bit concern, since, according the Wikipedia there are only 12 episodes and were basically half way through them. So, there’s that.
However, I have greatly enjoyed watching the anime so far. And the first episode was good enough to make me immediately want to read the manga - so very well done on their part.
--
Overall, I would say that all the three – Manga, Light Novels, Anime – benefit from the other two existing. Each one by itself, I think while is sufficient enough, still suffers. They all help to fill in the spots that the others are lacking in.
Which is great! I’ve enjoyed having all three. Because together I think they form the true Hamefura story, which I’ve loved.
So, check out all three if you can.

Thanks for your super fast reply on Saint-Just! I'll do my best to go of anon at the first possibility, for better communication. I actually appreciate your non-historian POV (will talk more as soon as I fix the account issues). Speaking of which, I browsed through your SJ tag, and there's a mention of his (I might be paraphrasing) "strange attitude about virgins". May I ask what you had in mind? Once again, thank you for that super-fast, detailed reply!
No problem ! And I don’t mind the anon as long as it’s not a way to be shitty while hiding behind it :)
And yeah there’s some value to being a simple enthusiast, I don’t want to look down on my own point of view but it’s no substitute for actual scholarly perspective so I always take care to mention it.
The reference I made was from the Fragments d’institutions républicaines, SJ’s personal notebook I mentioned which you can find in french here.
Anyway, about virgins, you can find this passage in the chapter on education :
“Les filles sont éleves dans la maison maternelle. Dans les jours de fête, une vierge ne peut paraître en public, après dix ans, sans sa mère, son père, ou son tuteur. “
“Girls are raised in the maternal home. On festive days (a reference to national celebrations I believe), a virgin cannot show herself in public past her tenth year, without her mother, her father or her tutor”.
And again in the chapter on celebrations :
“Tous les ans, le 1er floréal, le peuple de chaque commune choisira, parmi ceux de la commune exclusivement et dans les temples, un jeune homme riche, vertueux et sans difformité, âgé de vingt et un ans accomplis et de moins de trente, qui choisira et épousera une vierge pauvre, en mémoire de l’égalité humaine.”
“Every year, on the 1st of floréal, the people of each town will choose, among those in the town and in the parish, a rich, virtuous young man with no disability, between twenty-one and thirty years of age, who will choose and marry a poor virgin, in memory of human equality”
So yeah, as the kids say, not a great look, not absolutely reprehensible either (which is something, I guess). This is where my lack proper knowledge fails me, because I am not sure “virgin” in the context of SJ’s writing isn’t simply a common term from the times to talk about a young woman who’s never been married. Still, it’s hard to read these as anything that would reflect positively on SJ. That said, in the same notes we do find passages such as this :
“[Si les époux] se séparent, la moitié de la communauté leur appartient ; ils la partagent également entre eux.”
“If a married couple splits, half of their estate belongs the them. It is split evenly between them.”
So SJ is in favour of equal separation of estate in case of divorce. Each spouse has equal authority on their children, btw.
We have also :
“Une fille a le droit de faire demander dans le temple un autre tuteur sans en expliquer les motifs.”
“A girl has the right to ask the parish another tutor without explaining why.”
Or again :
“ Celui qui frappe une femme est banni.”
“Whoever hits a woman is banished”
Note there’s no exception made to this rule for the spouse.
Those are only a couple cherrypicked lines, and I don’t claim to be making any kind of general appreciation on SJ’s ideas as a whole. Outside of virgins there are some truly bizarre precepts in there, and I highly recommend you check the whole thing for yourself. But I think we can say without much risk that while there is some stuff in there, for example the virgin stuff that’s pretty representative of the ambient sexism of the times, there are just as many lines in there indicating that SJ, albeit clumsily and sometimes misguidedly, does demonstrate a concern for women and girls’ wellbeing. Being in favor of divorce, women owning and managing their own property (you have to remember his mother managed the family estate for the better part of his life), women choosing their spouse and having an equal say in the marriage, condemning violence against women... That’s significant. I think I said that in the last ask I received on the topic, but while it’s pretty obvious that women and gender equality was not SJ’s pet issue and he doesn’t seem to regard it as a priority (he never publicly pushed for it either), in particular having nothing to say on women’s place on society outside of the home, he could at least be considered progressive on women’s issues within the restricted confines of the role that was allocated to them back then.

Hi! I have a few questions! First, could you share more about yourself to make you qualified to run this? Have you written for KH? Do you have an ao3? It'd be nice to know more about the person running this! Also how are you planning to run assignments and assure that someone won't be forced to give feedback on a piece they aren't comfortable with? Lastly, how will quality feedback be ensured? Thanks a ton, I'm eager to see what you answer and learn more about this!
Hi! I’m Miss T.C. Nova. Traditionally a self-insert writer, I unfortunately have not looked much into ao3 yet since I really only got into fanfic in April. But when I was looking around, I just couldn’t find a group I was comfortable sharing fanfic with for peer review. So I decided to make one that’s super simple for me and other writers. You can get a sense of my writing from my main blog and how I interact with the few anons I’ve had, but I’m sorry I won’t be giving my personal info out. I’d like to remain just as anonymous/alias as everyone else. So I understand the hesitation of trusting me right off that bat...
As for sensitive material, I’M GLAD YOU ASKED! I’ve been trying to set up a basic application form. There’s a question specifically geared towards whether or not applicants are comfortable reading/critiquing sensitive material (NSFW, abuse, trigger warning stuff) which is required to be tagged by the authors. But I’m all open to adding more options if you have any suggestions. On the other hand, it’s hard to restrict things like POV, present vs past tense, shipping, genre, OCs, and things like that, so the applicants themselves really need to be open to reading things that aren’t necessarily their personal preference. We’re looking for help with the writing process, not author preferences if that makes sense; like I want you to judge how my plot is, not the fact that I write in 1st person present tense just because you may not like it.
As for the final question, I’m also trying to create a “homework” sheet kind of thing that asks about plot, characters, etc. So I do have a sort of guideline for how critiquing should go but everyone needs to remember that these are peer reviews and answers may vary based on the “appraiser.” HOWEVER, I’m doing absolutely everything possible to make it easy to contact me should anyone get critiques that seem off (bullying, not taking it seriously, etc).
So no, I’m sorry, I haven’t done anything like this before. This is going to be a learning process for me which is, again, why I’ve tried to dumb it down for me. I put out an applicant form (which asks about your fic, if you’re over 18, and what you’re comfortable reading), I put fics and applicants into categories, distribute, collect critiques, then distribute critiques.
Whoo, sorry this is kinda lengthy but I hope it answered all your questions and PLEASE do not be afraid to ask anymore should you have any.

heyy! so I've been studying astrology for some time now and I decided to ask for some advice/dif. pov, so I have a 7h gem stellium conjuct nn and opposing sag pluto 1st conjuct sn. I was wondering your opinions on how to "balance it out" it seems like a paradox because it has sn conjuct pluto (transformation) and a lot of 7h energy. Idk why I always feel guilty or like I'm being selfish and constantly in need to better myself and "serve others". Thank you for reading💕
Hey there!! 💕💕 Oof okay! 💕 I’ve done a reading for someone similar, a gem stellium in 8th and pluto in 2nd -- I think I described it as a mobius wheel/loop?💕 The energy/cycle is concentrated between these two things, kinda like a feedback loop where one informs the others (stem/causes>action>repeat on the opposite side, grass is greener and all that)
How to Deal with a ‘Mobius Loop’?(stellia > placement) ⬇️
+ Also help stuff for Sagittarius??
When you’re pulled onto one, you’re gravitating back to the other. There’s a lot of concentrating (gravitational) power on both pulling you into this motion where you’re in between two gravitational force, belonging in two places -- a lot of the time it’s also limiting it to your vision as well. Because look at the big picture -- there’s so much space in your chart extended beyond just these two loops-- so how do you spread your energy there (outside the loop) to help ease/elevate the tension? 💕
A part of it is evaluating what you considering to be your best assets, your habits, your 'worth’ and value and ‘what’ you bring to the table (where your pride lies, SN) --- and letting that ‘go’ or breaking down that wall of ego, want, desire, need, self-protection. Only through breaking it down, does it go through transformation -- which is what Pluto brings to the SN.
Wanting it to transform but only through changing and challenging yourself/what you ‘know’ about yourself (your stable/ground point) to change.
With Sagittarius, perhaps it’s hopes/optimistic ideals, knowledge, expectations, part of your dream/goal/ambition.
Think of it as a baseline? And Pluto coming in going ‘well we should do some renovations’ (which is how it can healthily manifest) -- experiences where certain things are crushed are regenerated into a better positioning of the SN/baseline. And that can help you a lot as well? 💕
If Pluto/SN is not doing that, it can sometimes create a certain forcefulness, forcing the person’s good points, teachings, advice, skill-set to be pushed/forced onto others/acknowledged (which is why we talk about breaking down the SN so that the energy can be?? better). Wanting to be acknowledged, wanting to be a teacher or admired for our qualities, wanting or expected to gain something from our skill sets.
Sagittarius can be very stubborn, especially when it relies on it’s ‘better-qualities’ to make it appeal to others/get what it wants -- and look away from the problem at hand. Somethings you can’t ‘fake it till you make it’ but actually have to sit down and dismantle, re-wire and let expansive energy in honestly (and not look at what it wants/what it understands).
Opening it up is something to talk about-- and to do that, understanding the consciousness and what we internalize/fear we’re not as ‘good’ as we are in something-- learning how to look at those factors (internalized fear/desire) and accept them
Kinda like asking: what do you desire? and perhaps, why? and do you think you’re good at it? and then going -- what if that’s not relevant to achieving your goal? You’re focusing on something that’s only restricting you? BUT yes, it’s a wonderful goal/desire and it is definitely valid. And you put so much work and energy into it, all this effort and energy -- put into seeing it through, gaining grounds on it and with it. There’s sentimental values in what you’ve ‘had’ or ‘been with’ for so long, and that sentimentalism fool-hardiness is obviously valid from a goal/ambition and manifestation/emotional standpoint as well.
But what if you let that ‘desire/goal’ go -- and instead, denounce, evaluate, or critically look at how it is realistically dragging you down as well? What if you embrace -- perhaps, what you see others doing and vehemently didn’t want to do before? Those you’ve judged, or moral values/issues you might not have been ok with, perhaps denouncing your values (expectations of the self) -- you can accept others values and perspective better now.
There’s power there too, where technically -- you have to have a certain level of ‘moral looseness’ in order to accept different view/paths of life and embrace them.
There’s a fear of ‘losing yourself’ if you just -- take other’s values or be integrated into it -- but don’t worry so much because the true goal of this is self-regeneration (Pluto) and you DO have a Sagittarius SN which is going to come through with finding YOUR perspective in all this chaos/values -- basically, it’ll be good for you if you learn how to ‘let go’ of this thing you cling onto.
With Sagittarius, it’s also your ‘contribution’ to the world and what you ‘bring’ to the table. And with it being in important house (1st-7th) what matters more is seeing how you can help others without expending yourself or relying on your skill-sets/clinging stuff so much. Breaking down that core ego/sense of self that has to do with it -- and instead, learning, growing and seeing the spaces around you (and their value/worth) for the first time.
Open up Sagittarius in a healthier way (a student, as much as a colleague/TA) helps a lot with it’s giving nature without the reliance on the ‘self’ (what you provides, want, give, is valued for) --- you define your own value/worth, and if you can’t trust yourself to just say ‘i am valuable whether or not i provide something, i am and therefore, im worthy of receiving’ -- then maybe you’re in no position to be giving until you can say that with a deeper conscious/honesty to it? 💕
Anyways, this is all to do with clearing up that receptor in the 1st. Because your Gemini Stellium is also the one power-housing energy as well (and is?? more chances of being stable/less of a problem from first glance) -- it provides power for sure, but if the receptor of those energy is slamming that power back to the Gemini stellium when it sends it out (trying to balance itself) -- then that energy will be going back and forth without going anywhere.
Thus -- why clearing up some of those transformative power and amazing skill-sets you have in the 1st -- to actually be something that could grow, heal, regenerate and provide (disperse it around and help nourish the rest of your chart) -- helps with moving along some of that loop-y motion as well.
Anyways-- this was long, but I hope it’s ;; 💕💕 helpful, or resonate, or anything 💕💕 I hope it helps a little 💕💕 Aaahnsjknw

I was wondering if there was an easy way to know if you were writing an "overly self-aware POV character" in (1st or 3rd limited) narration. Would it be limited to things that would normally only be seen by someone else (unless there's a mirror involved)? Like, narrating himself: "he placed his right hand here, his left hand there, did the hokeypokey so wide he nearly bumped into other people." It's possible to know what your own body parts are doing, but not always to a detailed degree. 1/2
I’m also wondering about describing actions/reactions. Clearly “he looked ridiculous while doing the hokeypokey” is not only overly self-aware but possibly breaking his POV unless he knows for a fact he looks ridiculous when dancing etc (or somehow sees himself). But I’m thinking more along the lines of “He burst into a fit of thunderous laughter”. Can we ourselves think we laugh thunderously? We know when we laugh softly/loudly, but… is there an “adjective too far” in Limited narration?
Description in First-Person/Third-Person Limited Thoughts
I think if first-person/third-person limited were restricted to the realistic nature of stream of consciousness, those POVs would be incredibly boring to read. Because of course, I’m not sitting here thinking, “I tapped furiously away at my laptop keyboard, feeling a pressing need to give my opinion to the Anon, and trying hard not to think about the desperately needed second cup of coffee waiting for me in the kitchen.” My actual stream of consciousness right now is more like, “Hmm… I really should get another cup of coffee.”My point is, while we do strive for reality in fiction, it’s absolutely necessary to stray from reality a bit to keep things interesting. So while you might not specifically think, “I look ridiculous doing the hokey pokey,” you could certainly say that your character feels ridiculous doing the hokey pokey. And, because it’s okay to stray from the mundane nature of realistic thoughts, you can also say, “I climbed up on stage and started doing the hokey pokey with everyone else, knowing full well I looked ridiculous.” And yes, your character can describe their own laughter as “thunderous.” You know what thunderous laughter sounds like, so there’s no reason you can’t think of your own laughter as thunderous. :)

Do you think Katniss is an unreliable narrator? Yes/No? Why?
What's your opinion about first person POV narrative in The Hunger Games book trilogy?
Thank you 😊
@curiousnonny
I think it's extremely unreliable and it becomes more unreliable as the story progresses. The first thing that shows you it's unreliable is at the very beginning of the first book, she states at some point that she had 0 interest in learning about the 1st war, she knew nothing beyond the fact that it happened, and how it ended up now.
So we have a narrator that knows very little of their own past history, and the story is from there restricted to her knowledge.
Once she's in the games, we can follow her current events, but nothing that's happening outside her own experience. And the reliability gets even more shaken up as the story progresses, so much so that I can actually make an argument that Snow didn't blow up District 12, or the hospital, because Katniss' narration is just THAT unreliable.
Not to mention the fact that Katniss is a very .... I shouldn't say trusting person, but she tends to believe anything she's told. Coin says someone did something, Katniss believes it. Gale tells Katniss something happened. She believes it. Whether it's truth or not. But the problem is the information other people are telling her may not even be truthful. We can only go off of what Katniss believes to be true, or false, and nothing else, we have no other perspective.
And the more she's manipulated by Coin, and the more shakey her sanity becomes, the more unreliable that narration becomes. I read the entire thing the first time as gospel truth, and on the second read-through, I questioned everything Katniss was being told, everything she saw and heard, and the more I questioned it, the more I realised just how little information we actually have and just how much of the events could be taken as hearsay.

Certain elements of 'Gamer' fanfic that confused me.
So, I've read gamer fanfic, mostly on Fate series and some of the DxD side. I do read the Gamer Manhwa, but before that, my earliest story that has a gamer element is basically isekai genre of japan light novels. Now I do have some Gamer fanfic idea, but I'm confused about some elements of Gamer that people use in their fanfiction.
First, the attribute.
Vitality and Endurance. Vitality usually means about HP and the regeneration, while Endurance usually means body natural defense and stamina. Do you guys think its better to just fuse these two or separate them?
Agility and Dexterity. The gamer manhwa has Dexterity in place of Agility. In many RPG, especially action RPG, Agility usually determines the speed of character while dexterity determines... various stuff like accuracy, weapon usage speed, etc., which basically fusing many things that can be categorized as a skill into one attribute. If gamer fanfic that includes skill like "Sword mastery/basic/efficiency", should they not include dexterity?
Charisma. This thing really confuses me. The Gamer manhwa has this and some fanfic use this too. Then there's gamer fanfic that put Charisma as a skill, like in Fate series, this is a skill usually owned by leaders, and the Fate gamer fanfic often put this as a skill instead of attribute. What do you think of this? Do you think Charisma is more fit as a skill, or as an attribute?
Intelligence, Wisdom, and Perception. Somehow, this thing is basically the smarter you are, the better your use of magic, which is ok, then it also says it means your mana pool is bigger, which is... what the fuck. Which comes to my question. Do you guys prefer those attributes also affects magic and mana pool, or do you guys rather have them separate(ex: MAG, INT, WIS) like that?
Some Gamer fanfic has like only 4 stats, and others up to 10 stats like in Dark Souls. Do you guys prefer fewer attributes or more?
Having multiple bars (Health, Stamina, Mana/Magic, ESP, etc). Which is better in your opinion, having multiple of these or simplified to just HP, SP, MP?
Skills.
Some gamer fanfic includes mundane skills like Sleeping, Running, Speaking, etc. Then they either evolve the skills(Jumping into Double Jump skills, etc) or fused them into one skill that have all of those skills effects(Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills into Language Mastery skill). Since having Gamer means your whole life becomes like a gamer, by that logic, do you guys think it's better to not include these kinds of skills and focus more on more complex skills?
Rank/Tier.
Essentially a level limit/cap that can be achieved of the Gamer. Some Gamer fanfic, like in DxD, uses rank/tier. Every time the gamer Rank up/Tier up, the level resets to 1 and the attributes scale down to level 1 based on their latest attributes spread ratio. This results in the Gamer able to deal full damage instead of reduced damage despite still being a level 1. If you know about Danmachi, this is a similar system, or in Fate series, with Heracles, Achilles, and Karna resistance that will nullify any attack under Rank A(Only Rank A can bypass their defense). What do you think about inclusion about these features? Too much, or would you rather have Level 1-100 or Level 1-1000 than these tiers/rank system?
Bond/Relation system.
Basically a more global and fewer restrictions version of Persona series Social Link/Confidant system. Some fanfic has this and some not. Do you guys prefer to have these or do you prefer not? Some even use the tier/rank systems too for this, like filling the relationship meter to 100, which change from stranger to friend, the meter resets to 0.
Quest.
Some fanfic has this, some fanfic doesn't. I personally 50/50 on this, I see their use as some sort of meta ways of keeping the story focused, while at the same time I feel they are too random at times.
POV.
A lot of Gamer fanfic uses 1st POV, while some fewer use 3rd POV. Assuming the writer has the same skill in writing in the 1st and 3rd POV, which do you think is better for a Gamer fanfic.
I think that's all, for now.

Hey Elumish! Got a question for yah. As the new Camp NaNo session creeps closer, I keep rethinking how I'm going to go about the novel I have in mind. It's a diesel noir (which is basically film noir detectives meeting the occult and possible Cthulu if you've never heard of it) novel roughly about a string of mysterious murders, but I can't decide on how to do it. First it was going to be 3rd Person POV following one of the suspects, then it was going to be 1st Person (-c- Idea Swap Anon)
(-c- Idea Swap Anon) Unreliable Narrator as the same suspect, now it's bouncing between the same perspective but from one of the investigators and a general 1st Person POV that follows both of them, swapping back and forth as the narrative calls for it. Any advice for pinning down these details before July starts? I fear it'll keep me from being productive if I don't figure it out at least one to give a solid effort toward before then. :(
So a few thoughts on this:
First, especially for something like NaNo, write for what you’re more comfortable in. It’s really hard to write that much if you’re writing something you’re not comfortable (though, on the other hand, it can be a good chance to experiment).
I tend to warn against alternating 1st person POV. It can be done well but rarely is, and it can be exceedingly confusing to the reader. If you are going to do it, you need to pay attention to the voice of the writing. Your suspect’s POV shouldn’t read like your investigator’s POV.
Think about the information you want to share. If you want to emphasize the chase, following the investigator makes more sense.
Following the suspect only really makes sense if they either are the killer or if they end up closely involved in the investigation, because otherwise we’re going to be missing a lot of information and would miss the climax of actually catching the killer.
If the suspect is the killer, following them will leave very little room for surprises. If you do the unreliable narrator, it could still be interesting.
Generally, third person is a little more removed, or can be if you want it to be, while first person necessitates being inside the person’s head. You can’t provide any information the character can’t see/hear/experience/know in first person, so you have to consider whether you’re willing to have that restriction.
My suggestion would be, if you want to follow both people, use third person. If you want to follow one or the other, you can use whichever one you’re more comfortable with.

I was tagged by @iariotact to do this question thingie. If you wanna read my personal answers and questions you can go visit @somepeoplecallmepennacchio, which is my personal blog. Here I decided to have one of my beloved characters answer and ask questions and that’ll be... EDDIE!
If you wanna read this from the POV of any other of my characters just ask ;)
QUESTIONS FROM @iariotact TO 1991 EDDIE IN MY FIC
1. Are you spiritual in anyway. I am, sort of, surely not in a religious way. I can see spirituality as a personal, individual thing, not restricted to an organized cult. Music, art, that’s the closest I am to the concept of spirituality and religion 2. What makes you angry. I’m really good at finding things that make me angry, I mean it’s not that difficult, I think you just have to pay attention to what happens around you. Right now, I’d say indifference. And guys who get too close to Angie... 3. Do you like pickles? Not my favorite food, but I dig them. 4. Are you in anyway involved in activism concerning our planet? I am but I’d like to do more. In San Diego I’ve always played benefit shows and raised money for the causes I believe in and stuff, I hope I’ll be able to do that with this new band too. 5. Have you ever been really shocked about a dream you’ve had? Yeah, I dreamt about the Cubs winning the World Series, it was so vivid. I almost cried when I woke up and realised it was only a dream. 6. Any plans for a concert? February 1st at the Off Ramp and then we’re gonna tour California with Alice in Chains for about a month. 7. If you were to live on a deserted island who would be the person you could share it with? I don’t know if she could stand me, but I’d definitely pick Angie. 8. Can you ride a bike? Yes, I can, but I rarely do that. If I’m not driving a car, I prefer walking. 9. What bad habit do you have? Smoking. And falling in love in like 5 five minutes. 10. What city would you like to visit? Kailua, Hawaii. I’m a surfer what did you expect? 11. Who do you adore? Name 3. Pete Townshend, Michael Jordan, Angie Pacifico.
QUESTIONS FROM EDDIE:
1. Is there a place you can call “home”? 2. What’s music to you? 3. What are your feelings when you think about the ocean? 4. Do you wanna be a parent someday? And if you already are, do you think you’re doing good? 5. What’s the shittiest job you had? 6. What was the first concert you attended? 7. Can you play any music instrument/sing? 8. Do you have any kind of ritual when you read a book? 9. What do you do to figure out if someone likes you? 10. Where would you take the person you like for a first date? 11. What name would you choose for your band if you had one?
I won’t tag anyone, but everybody feel free to answer to Eddie’s questions here on this post, also because a couple of those are a clear ask for some advice and Eddie could definitely use some :D

Weekly Round up: July31st - August 6th
It’s time to say goodbye to July and hello to August. That was fast! As Ben Hecht would say, “Time is a circus, always packing up and moving away.” Well, FPJ is here to help you get this month started on the right foot.
July 31st: Did you know San Marcos, TX is the host of 2017 Literacy TX Conference? Don’t miss two days of workshops and panels.
August 3rd: At FPJ, we support emerging artists, and that’s not restricted to writers! At La Botanica, San Antonio’s vegan, vegetarian, and cultural gem, “Showcase Mujeres” is an event calling all sister musicians! This is your chance to perform and get your music out there. Two speakers, two mics, and a mixer are available to use. Make sure to bring any additional equipment you may need. Sign up starts at 7:30 p.m. and spots are limited so get there early! The event info is here, and just give La Botanica a follow while you’re at it, they’re always hosting the best community events.
August 4th: Go see “Ruby Reds, Big Birds y Burras,” at San Antonio’s iconic Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (where Sandra Cisneros’ renowned Macondo Writers Workshop was started). This is a Tex-Mex play of mythic proportions! Adapted from Marisela Barrera’s collection of linked short stories, is set along the Texas Borderlands. From the Rio Grande Valley to San Antonio, these characters, inspired by local legends, are looking for home. Find out how to get your tickets here gente!
August 4th: Another opening night for TWENTYEIGHT at the Vortex Theater in Austin, TX. Set to the hymns of Kanye West, TWENTYEIGHT is the story of six Black people separated from their homes in search of outer space. As they work to build their space craft, they live in constant fear of the sirens and what comes after the sirens are gone. TWENTYEIGHT is inspired by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement research that concluded in 2012 a Black person was murdered in the United States of America every 28 hours by a police officer or vigilante. TWENTYEIGHT is an afro-futuristic look at police brutality and racial violence in the United States. TWENTYEIGHT asks us, who will survive in the America we are building? And how do we hang on to hope when fear is on the only constant?
August 6th: Torch Literary Arts has partnered with Austin’s only Feminist Bookstore, Bookwoman, to bring their amazing Torch: Wildfire Reading Series. The special guest is Dr. Raina J. León! Open mic starts at 6 p.m.! Find more about Torch here
To read: Gabriel Beloit writes a timely piece for LitHub “Trump’s Shameful, Cruel Ban on People Like Me”
Interesting: July 30th was the anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing Medicare, a health insurance program for elderly Americans, into law. At the bill-signing ceremony, which took place at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri, former President Harry S. Truman was enrolled as Medicare’s first beneficiary and received the first Medicare card. Johnson wanted to recognize Truman, who, in 1945,had becomethe first president to propose national health insurance, an initiative that was opposed at the time by Congress. Source: History.com
Writing Prompt: Another POV to throw you out of your comfort zone, in 1st or 2nd POV, your character/speaker has to make the deciding vote on a senate bill that will mark the face of their country for years to come. How does this senator deal with the pressure and in what fashion will they cast their vote?
Thanks for being with us for another week! We’ll keep you tuned in on what’s new in the world of emerging writers & artists.
