Meet & Greet... and more? Pt. 5
Pairing: Lando Norris x reader Words: 2066 Click here for Part 4
Please do not repost, thank you, and leave some feedback :)
Tumblr media
Lando stood in the lobby of the hotel checking his watch and rehearsing his lines mumbling to himself. A sleek black car parked outside was ready for their drive. Luckily he didn’t have to wait long before Y/N emerged. She looked stunning, even though she was only wearing some jeans and a semi-elegant black top but it complemented her complexion perfectly. Lando’s breath caught in his throat as he took in the sight of her. He approached with a warm, nervous smile.
“I’m sorry if I’m a bit underdressed,” she apologized with a low voice. “I didn’t expect you to ask me out, so I didn’t pack anything fancy.”
Lando’s smile widened and he shook his head gently. “You look gorgeous, Y/N. I’m just glad you agreed to going out with me.”
“Thanks,” Y/N said, her cheeks flushing slightly after hearing the compliment. “You look great too.”
Lando stepped forward to open the car door for her and she slipped into the luxurious interior of the car. He quickly got in the driver’s seat and soon they were driving through the streets heading toward their destination.
The drive was filled with a comfortable silence, interrupted only by the soft music playing on the radio. Lando kept sneaking glances at Y/N, stealing moments to admire her profile and the way the city lights danced on her face. Y/N, for her part, seemed content, occasionally turning to him with a smile that made his heart race.
The restaurant’s terrace that Lando had reserved for their table overlooked the city, offering a breathtaking panorama of the city below. “This is beautiful,” she said and admired the view.
“I’m glad you like it,” Lando said, his gaze lingering on her. “I wanted tonight to be special.”
The waiter arrived to take their drink orders and soon they talked about everything and nothing - shared memories, future dreams and light-hearted banter. Each moment seemed to draw them closer and Lando found himself more captivated by Y/N with every passing minute.
“Speaking of quirks,” Lando began at some point, leaning in slightly, “Years ago I tried to impress my team with a homemade dinner.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Oh really? How did that go?”
“Well,” Lando said with a mischievous glint in his eye, “I thought I’d go all out and make a fancy pasta dish with some chocolate mousse for after but I got so carried away that I accidentally used salt instead of sugar in the dessert.”
Y/N chuckled, “That sounds like a disaster. How did they react?”
“They were polite at first,” Lando said, trying to keep a straight face. “But halfway through the meal one of the guys said, ‘Well, at least we know Lando can make us laugh.’”
Y/N laughed, imagining Lando in the kitchen with a confused look on his face. “Sounds like you’re quite the chef.”
“More like an accidental comedian,” Lando replied with a wink. “But if you ever want a taste test, just let me know. I promise to stick to the recipe.”
“Deal,” Y/N said with a smile. “And I’ll bring my own sugar, just in case.”
The moment was light-hearted and endearing and Y/N couldn’t help but feel even more charmed by Lando’s playful and self-deprecating humor.
A little while later, while he was telling her about his early karting days, she took a moment to really look at Lando. She couldn’t help but think how he looked like he’d stepped out of a fairy tale. There was something almost magical about the way he carried himself. The sharp lines of his black pants served timeless elegance, while the white shirt accentuated his toned body. His hair was perfectly styled, every lock in place as if it had been sculpted by an artist.
He reminded her of a Disney prince, the comparison making her smile. He had that same kind of defined, classic appeal, a blend of charm and grace that seemed almost otherworldly and she was the lucky one to share this evening with him.
What had started as a simple Meet & Greet for the sole purpose of making her son happy, had turned into something much more. She had come to the event knowing very little about Lando, only the little bits Noah got excited about and told her but he was a toddler, so how much could he really know? But now she was fascinated by who Lando was as a person.
She was surprised at how Lando’s passion, his down-to-earth nature and his genuine kindness had drawn her in so quickly. The more they talked, the more she found herself appreciating the real person behind the public persona. She was falling for more than just the image of the driver; she was falling for the person he was, the one with a great sense of humor, love and genuine care.
Her thoughts were interrupted as Lando met her gaze and Y/N realized that this was more than just an ordinary night. It was a magical moment and Lando was indeed her very own prince charming, making the evening feel like something out of a storybook.
“I have to tell you,” Y/N began at some point, “this is actually the first date I’ve been on since before Noah was born. It’s been a while, but tonight feels... special.”
Lando looked at her with genuine surprise. “I can’t believe no one has asked you out,” he said, shaking his head in disbelief. “You’re amazing, anyone would be lucky to spend time with you.” He meant every word he said but soon noticed the change in her demeanor. “I hope I didn’t upset you.”
“Oh god, Lando no,” Y/N tried to calm him down immediately, then took a deep breath, her gaze momentarily drifting to the city. “There’s something I’d like to share with you, if that’s okay.”
Lando nodded encouragingly, sensing the gravity in her tone. “Of course. I’m here to listen.”
“Noah’s dad…” Y/N hesitated for a moment before continuing. “I already told you he left shortly after Noah was born, he was just two months old. It wasn’t easy and I’ve been doing everything I can to raise him on my own. I guess I’m just a bit unsure about opening up to someone new, especially with Noah involved.”
Lando’s heart ached as he listened to Y/N’s words. He could sense the insecurity and vulnerability in her voice and he wanted nothing more than to reassure her that he was genuinely interested and understanding.
“I can only imagine how difficult that must have been for you,” Lando said softly. “I want you to know that I respect you immensely for how you’ve handled everything and for how much you care for him. The fact that you’re willing to open up and share this with me means a lot.”
Y/N looked up at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty but there was also hope. “It’s just that I’ve been so focused on protecting Noah and making sure he’s okay. I’d hate for him to get attached to someone else who’s going to leave and disappoint him.”
“I understand that completely but I want to be clear about how I feel. From the moment I met you and Noah I felt something really special. It’s not just about being interested, I’m here because I genuinely care and want to see where this can go.”
Y/N’s gaze softened and she took a small but relieved breath while Lando gave her a reassuring smile. “I’m serious about wanting to get to know you and Noah better. I understand that trust takes time and I’m more than willing to be patient and supportive. I genuinely believe there’s something here and I’d like to explore that with both of you.”
Just then he decided to share a small but - what he hoped - meaningful gesture. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, tapping the screen to show Y/N. It showed the photo from when they first met at the Meet & Greet.
“This has been my phone background from the moment you two left that day,” Lando said, his cheeks flushing slightly. “I have been thinking about you nonstop since then.”
She looked at the photo, then back at Lando, her heart swelling and with slightly shaking hands she pulled out her own phone, showing it to the young man sitting across from her who got a perfect look at the exact same picture on her device. “Looks like great minds think alike,” she giggled softly.
Once they had finished their meal Lando led Y/N to the edge where they stood side by side taking in the stunning view. He turned to her, his eyes reflecting the city lights. “It’s incredible, isn’t it?” he said, his voice low and soft.
“It is,” Y/N replied, her gaze fixed on the horizon before meeting his eyes. “Thank you for this night, Lando. It’s been absolutely amazing.”
Lando’s eyes were locked onto Y/N’s, his gaze intense and filled with an emotion that spoke volumes. The air between them was charged with a palpable energy. Slowly, almost hesitantly, he reached out and brushed a stray lock of hair from Y/N’s face, his fingers lingering on her cheek.
His eyes softened and he leaned in slowly, giving her every chance to pull away if she chose. Y/N’s own heart raced as she felt the pull of his presence and slowly but surely her eyes fluttered shut. She tilted her face upward, her lips parting in anticipation.
Their lips met in a kiss that was both tender and electrifying. At first, it was a soft, lingering touch, a gentle exploration of what had been building between them. Lando’s lips were warm and reassuring against hers, his kiss a promise of all the words he hadn’t yet said.
Within seconds the kiss deepened, it became more urgent, more passionate. His hands moved to frame Y/N’s face, his fingers threading into her hair as he pulled her closer. The intensity of the kiss conveyed everything they had both been feeling but couldn’t quite put into words. Y/N responded eagerly, her hands grasping the front of his shirt, drawing him even closer. The world around them seemed to disappear, leaving only the sensation of their lips moving together.
When they finally parted, their foreheads pressed together, both of them were breathless, their hearts racing from the intensity of the moment. Y/N opened her eyes slowly, meeting Lando’s gaze with a look of pure happiness and love.
“That was…” Y/N began, her voice trembling slightly and she was unable to put the buzzing feeling in her stomach into words.
Lando smiled, his eyes shining with the same emotion and a soft smile on his features. “I’ve been wanting to do this the whole weekend.”
They stayed there for a few more moments, simply holding each other and enjoying each other’s presence until Lando gently took Y/N’s hands in his, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
“So,” he started with a grin, “when you tell Noah about our date, how do you think he’ll react? Will he be thrilled to know his mom’s got a new boyfriend or will he just want to know if I’m bringing him a toy car next time?”
Y/N laughed, her eyes lighting up with amusement. “Oh, Noah’s definitely going to have a lot of questions, he’s been very curious about everything lately. I’m sure he’ll be excited but he might also want to know if you have any cool stories to share.”
“Well,” Lando chuckled, shaking his head, “I’ll have to make sure I have some good stories ready. Maybe I’ll even bring him a little something again next time. I have to make sure he still likes me.”
“You’re already his hero, so I don’t think you will have to worry about that,” Y/N replied smiling.
Lando’s gaze saddened slightly as he added, “I’m not looking forward to you two leaving tomorrow but I’ll be there to help you get to the airport. It’ll be nice to spend a bit more time with you before you two have to go.”
“That sounds wonderful. Thank you, Lando and we will find a way to make this work.”

Steve considered himself a romantic of sorts. Call him old-fashioned, but he liked bringing you flowers, he liked taking you to the theater, and he liked walking you home—all the way up to your door and listening for the lock, so he knew you’d be safe in there.
It was only fitting how cliché it felt when he realized he was in love with you. Firework-igniting kisses and butterfly-filled tummies and face-splitting grins. Everything described in those movies you enjoyed watching—but so much more.
Steve Rogers wasn’t a man to waste time. After all—enough of that had been done while he was frozen in the ice. If he was going to start something, then he was most definitely going to go all the way and finish it, too.
Almost immediately after your first anniversary, he bought a ring. It was simple and classic, maybe a bit out of style but hey, you seemed to be into that. You were dating a century-year-old.
It was December then, soft snow lining the streets and piling upon naked tree branches. During the drive to the fancy restaurant he’d found (courtesy of Tony), there were children building snowmen and sledding down shallow hills. You smiled watching them, eyes rife with fond warmth, and Steve knew then that he had to do it. He had to propose to you tonight.
Inside, you wouldn’t stop telling him how underdressed you felt, but Steve reassured you by saying a simple, “You look perfect, I promise.”
And he wasn’t lying. You did look perfect to him.
Dinner consisted of several decadent courses, with the waiters serving platters the two of you could barely even pronounce. It was delicious, nonetheless, and the chef had even come by to shake the hand of the Captain America.
During the last course—a silken slice of chocolate cake for dessert—Steve slipped his hand into his suit’s pocket, the velvet box smooth beneath his fingers. He replayed the question over and over again in his head, rehearsed a million times prior to the dinner.
Will you marry me?
And just as he was about to pull the ring box out, another diner pushed his chair back just far enough to accidentally knock into a waiter passing by, holding a plate of spaghetti. Completely sauced, to top.
To Steve’s horror, the plate tipped, almost in slow motion, and fell with a wet, splattering noise all over your outfit. You’d let out a small yelp of surprise, the spaghetti was hot, but not enough to burn. Steve stood up a second too late, hand falling away from his pocket as he rounded the table and placed it on your shoulder, asking if you were okay.
“I’m okay,” you told him gently, reaching over to grab a few napkins at the center of your table.
You didn’t get mad, of course you didn’t—it was part of the reason Steve loved you so much—instead, you were kind and patient, reassuring the flustered waiter that it was alright. “Mistakes happen,” you said. Another waiter came by a few minutes later with a few damp cloths so you could wipe the rest of the spaghetti sauce off.
Needless to say, the chef insisted that the meal was on the house that night, much to Steve’s chagrin.
The drive back home smelled of marinara sauce and oregano, but the heavy weight in his chest at the failed proposal seemed to lighten when you joked about how the five course meal ended up being six.
Tumblr media
Natasha knew about the ring. Steve wasn’t quite sure how—he’d never explicitly told her—but then again, he wasn’t surprised. Nat seemed to always just know things from the smallest of details. It was why she made such a brilliant spy.
“So,” she’d said once she stumbled across from Steve in the Avenger Tower’s lavish gym, a sly grin stretching over her lips, “when are you popping the question?”
There was a pause to his movements—the dumbbell he’d been curling hovered in the air, his muscles tensing. He thought about it for a little longer, considering asking her how she knew but—he seemed to sense that Natasha would wave it away with a laugh and a light, “A magician never reveals her secrets.”
Instead, he told the red-head, “I’m working on it.”
Natasha leaned against a treadmill, arms crossing over her chest. The smile on her face seemed to grow even wider. “Uh-huh. How long have you had the ring?”
Steve resumed doing his reps. The burn felt nice, even if it was only barely there. “Long enough.”
There was a soft tenderness to Natasha’s eyes, and she bumped a fist into his bicep. “Take Y/N hiking. Far away from the city, where it’s quiet.”
Again, Steve paused his exercise. Slow, he put the weights down, thinking over her words.
“That’s actually—that’s a good idea, Nat.”
“Of course it is.” There was a knowing glint in her eyes.
“Thanks, really. I just want things to be perfect.”
She dipped her head once, before climbing onto the treadmill. “Send pictures. I’ve got a bet going on—Clint would want proof.”
Steve spared her an amused roll of his eyes. With a wave and a hurried goodbye, Steve rushed out of the gym to take a quick shower. The weather app on his phone (that he took an embarrassingly long time to find) told him the skies were going to be clear that afternoon—perfect for hiking.
Maybe, hopefully, perfect for proposals.
Half an hour later, you were ready to go, too, bouncing on the balls of your feet excitedly.
“I packed us sandwiches.”
“Did you? Oh, great—thanks, honey. We could have them as an early dinner.” He rubbed your shoulder and nudged you into the car.
“I packed a bunch of snacks, too.”
Steve arched a brow. “Like?”
“Gummy worms, popcorn, chips, cookies. Oh, and Wanda actually made something for us, I’m not really sure what it is, but it smelled nice—”
Your words died away when Steve laughed, loud and chesty. Of course you’d pack just about the entire pantry. How you managed to stuff all of that into your travel backpack with room to spare was beyond him. You couldn’t help but break out into an infectious smile when he leaned forward to kiss you on the forehead.
The drive out of the city to the hiking trail was long, and you nearly dozed off if not for the road getting progressively bumpier the closer you got.
The sun was high in the sky by the time you arrived. You slipped out of the car with a pleased hum and stretched out your limbs, ready to get the hike over and done with. You might’ve been dating a superhuman, but you had no powers of your own. The pressure to keep up was something always in the back of your mind.
And that’s how the hike went—you were determined to stay on par with Steve, no matter how grueling the terrain became. Even when he suggested a break to have some of the many snacks you’d packed, you tossed him your bag and kept trekking on—you were worried that if you stopped, you would never get back up again.
Really, you shouldn’t have overexerted yourself this quickly—the two of you were barely halfway done with the trail. Your feet were starting to drag, and your pace grew staggered. Just as you turned around to face your boyfriend and ask for a breather, your foot caught on a tree root that poked up above the trail’s surface, and you stumbled forward.
Thankfully, Steve’s quick reflexes came in handy, and he darted forward to grab you before you could go rolling down the steep hills.
He tugged you close into his chest, not yet registering your wince of pain. “Are you okay? That was a close one!”
When you pulled away, you gingerly tried to test your wait on the foot, but quickly lifted it back up with a grimace. “Oh, God. I think I’ve rolled my ankle.”
Steve stiffened, glancing further up the trail. It was maybe another two hours, but that was only with two fully-functioning pairs of legs.
The proposal would have to wait another day, then.
He cupped your face, soft and gentle. “Wrap your arms around my neck from behind. I’ll carry you down to the car.”
“You sure, Stevie? I can try hopping down on one foot.” You tried to demonstrate, but nearly lost your balance again. All the jostling sent bolts of pain down your foot, which surely wasn’t a good sign, either.
He snorted, huff-laughing, other hand slipping over your waist to keep you still. “I’m sure. Come on.” He leaned down expectantly.
Relenting, you wrapped your arms over his shoulders and hooked the inside of your thighs over his waist, careful to keep your injured foot extended so it wouldn’t bump into him. It was beginning to throb.
“‘M sorry,” you mumbled, resting your cheek over his shoulder, one of your hands lifting to toy with his short, blonde hair. He began to walk down, and you tried your best to ignore the pain in your ankle. “Ruined our hiking trip. I was so excited.”
“It’s okay, honey. It was an accident! We can always go another time. Maybe a different trail, though.”
You apologized again, the whole way down, in fact, despite his assurances that he wasn’t at all tired. He really wasn’t—barely broke a sweat during the descent. Besides, he quite liked the feeling of your holding so tight onto him, your nose pressed into the side of his neck, your soft laughter brushing over his skin in one moment, your slight winces in the next.
“I love you,” you whispered, lips brushing the shell of his ear.
He felt a shiver traverse down his back, and briefly wondered if you felt it, too.
“I love you, too. That tickles, though.”
Your laugh was abrupt and ever so heart-warming. “Sorry.”
Tumblr media
The movie, you’d told him, was a cult classic from the seventies. Steve couldn’t really remember what it was called. Callie? Cassie? It was an awful lot of blood. The arm he had wound over your shoulder squeezed you every time someone screamed in the film—which was… startlingly often.
Proposing in the middle of a gorey movie wasn’t exactly the romantic vision Steve had in mind, but since the previous attempts really didn’t work in his favor, he wondered if keeping it casual was the best way to go. So when you asked if he could come over for an abrupt movie night, he readily agreed—and brought the small, velvet ring box with him.
It was tucked safely in the pocket of his slacks, on the side you weren’t pressed up against. The weight was a constant reminder of what he wanted to ask you—occupying his mind away from the movie he should’ve been paying attention to.
He’d propose once the credits started rolling. Yes, that’d be best, right? Wouldn’t want a horrified scream interrupting his profession of undying love to you.
And so he watched. He watched and watched, absentmindedly wondering what on earth the movie was even about. He dragged his knuckles up and down your arm. When a particularly gruesome scene unfolded, Steve glanced over at you.
To his surprise, your features were softened with sleep, only barely illuminated by the crimson glow from the television, your lips slightly parted and eyes shut.
With gentle movements, Steve reached over to guide your head onto his shoulder. Your hair tickled his cheek, and he let out a soft puff of a sigh before smiling. He kissed your temple, nose resting over your forehead.
The proposal would have to wait another day.
Tumblr media
Tony’s parties were always an affair that Steve looked forward to. He wasn’t a party-goer by any means, but he found that the grand events were a great way for him to catch up with all his colleagues, acquaintances, and work associates he otherwise wouldn’t have spoken to for months to come.
And, of course, your excitement always seemed to rub off on him. You were buzzing about the room with what looked like twenty different outfits hanging off of your arms, holding them between you and the mirror with a scrutinizing look.
“Tucked or untucked?” you asked, more to yourself than him. He wasn’t given the chance to respond, anyway, since you chucked the shirt somewhere behind you and promptly started looking for another.
When you’d finally settled for appropriately formal attire, and Steve slipped into a button-up dress shirt (which was his one and only option, much to your envy), the two of you set off for Tony’s.
The party was already in full swing by the time you got there. Steve wasn’t entirely sure what the event was for—an anniversary or birthday, maybe? Fundraising gala? A celebration of some sort of scientific breakthrough Steve couldn’t even begin to comprehend? It was always a toss-up with Tony.
You were greeting people here and there, stopping to chatter amicably about what you’ve been up to, how work was going, the latest shows you’ve been catching up with…
And then you kissed his cheek and told him you were going to go grab some drinks. Steve watched you go with fond eyes. You looked incredible tonight.
A hand on his shoulder jolted him out of his reverie, and Tony Stark’s smug face came into view.
“Enjoying the party?” he asked, sly and knowing. What did he know?
“Hey, Tony. We only just got here. What’s all this for, by the way?” Steve crossed his arms and glanced around for any telltale signs.
A smirk flitted across his expression. “Just thought we all needed a bit of social activity pumped into the team. It’s a great place to… get your courage up, hm?” Tony smiled, and Steve narrowed his eyes.
“Did Natasha tell you?”
Tony snorted. “We all know.”
“Great.” Steve slid his hand into his pocket and traced the smooth grooves of the ring box. “Is everyone expecting me to propose tonight?”
“No, pfft—we don’t want to pressure you or anything…” Tony pointedly glanced at a stage conveniently placed front and center of the room. “But if you need some, what should I call it… assistance, the stage is all yours to use.”
Steve balked. Proposing at a party was one thing, but proposing on a stage in front of hundreds of people was completely out of the question.
Or was it?
“I’m not going to propose on a stage. That’s more your style.”
With a shrug, Tony rolled his eyes. “I mean, Pepper hasn’t left me yet, has she?”
Steve chose not to grace him with a response, but frown-smiled when Tony grabbed a flute of champagne and shoved it into his hands. He was gone the next second, off to greet a new round of guests.
Thirty seconds later, you appeared by his side, positively beaming, but slightly out of breath. There were two chilled glasses clutched in your hands, almost sloshing over with how quickly you bounded to him.
“Oh, you already got a drink?” you asked, grinning. You clinked both glasses against his, chiming, “Cheers!”
And as you were downing the sugary alcohol in your right hand, Steve ran a finger along the ring box again.
Maybe… maybe it really wasn’t a bad idea. He looked back at the stage. There was a microphone stand on there. Has it been there since the beginning?
He turned his head back to you, and you told him about Banner inviting the two of you over for dinner some time. Just as he was about to reply, his phone started buzzing in his other pocket. Deftly, Steve slipped his hand away from the box and went to pick up the phone—Sam’s caller ID staring up at him.
His friend’s voice sounded strained through the phone, and Steve gripped your hand and led you to a more quiet hallway, away from the crowd and the thrum of music.
Sam hurriedly told him that there was trouble downtown—something about Spider-Man and a very sandy guy.
“Sandy?”
“Yeah. Dude’s made of sand.”
“Oh.” Steve paused, brows furrowing. “I’ll be there in twenty. Can you keep it together till then?”
“Don’t have another choice, do I, Cap?”
With that, Sam hung up. Steve looked to you, crestfallen.
“Honey, I gotta go.”
Your voice was light and airy, despite your slightly crestfallen and confused countenance. “Sam’s in trouble?”
“Yeah. I’ll—” There was an uncertain pause. Steve leaned forward to press a chaste kiss to your forehead. “I’ll see you at home. I love you.”
Your brows pulled together. “I love you, too. Stay safe, Steve.”
It was something you just had to accustom yourself to—when your boyfriend was a superhero, his priorities encompassed far more than you. But you understood, as you always did, and let him hurry away with a stiff lip.
Tumblr media
The hospital was packed. Claustrophobically dense. You hurriedly wove through the crowd of anxious people hovering around the information desk, having already gotten the text which room Steve was in.
A few twisting hallways later, you pushed through a door and just about collapsed with relief when your eyes landed on Steve.
He was badly bruised. Hues of deep purple and faint blues were blossomed all over his face. One of his eyes was swollen, his sandy-blonde hair was tousled, and his bottom lip was split. He was wearing a hospital gown, and you felt nauseated wondering just what other injuries he was hiding beneath the fabric.
But he was alive. That was the least you’d hoped for.
Tears pricked your eyes, and you only then registered that Bucky was there, standing by the bed, expression grim and steeled. His blue eyes darted away from his best friend’s face to meet yours.
“I’ll give you two some space,” he murmured with a tight edge to his voice. Bucky patted your shoulder and whisked off before you could say anything.
“Steve?” you croaked, drawing nearer to the bed. Your throat felt tight. “Oh, God…”
Despite his entire face aching, Steve managed to tug one of the corners of his lips up into a meager smile. “Hey, honey.”
His voice sounded hoarse and overused, but was still utter music to your ears. You just about collapsed onto the side of the bed, reaching out to gently brush the back of your shaking knuckles over what little of his face wasn’t bruised.
“I heard what happened on the news,” came your tearful whisper. “I was so worried you…”
Something softened within the blue of his eyes. “I’m still here.”
You dipped forward to press a soft kiss to his forehead, and his tired eyes slid shut.
“Has a doctor checked on you yet? Any permanent damage I have to look out for?” You pulled away so you could roam your eyes over his form once more.
“Just a few bruises. Bone fractures. Nothing I can’t recover from,” he replied, though he winced when he tried to shift and sit more upright. You placed a hand on his back and helped him move, cautiously slow.
“Take it easy, old man,” you warned. “Don’t want you to pop a hip.”
Steve wheezed out what seemed like a laugh. Then, his eyes darted to the bedside table, where some spare clothes were neatly packed in a bag. Bucky had brought them, making sure to hide the ring box safely underneath a few layers.
Should he? Now, when he had the chance?
“I have something to ask you…” he began, tentative, dragging his eyes back onto you. You tilted your head pointedly, beckoning for him to go on.
Just as he was about to say the words, there were three rapid knocks to the hospital room’s doors and they creaked open immediately after, two nurses shuffling in, clipboards in hand.
“Hello, just here to run a few more check-ups!” one of them chirped. “It’s not often we get a super admitted in here.”
Steve just about physically deflated. Your brows kinked, and you patted his cheek fondly.
“I’ll come by later—gonna go see if Sam is okay. You should rest, Stevie. Love you.” With one final kiss to his cheek, you got up from his bed and made space for the bustling nurses. He barely managed to lift his hand to wave you goodbye before you hurried out of the room, back into the packed hallways.
Tumblr media
A month had drifted by since he wound up in the hospital (and discharged the very next day). It was pleasantly breezy that day—gusts of wind tousling his now-overgrown hair and whistling sweetly in your ears.
Steve bent at the waist to place the bouquet of flowers down in front of the headstone. If it were any windier, he was sure it would’ve blown away. But it stayed put, the petals only barely swaying to and fro, and he righted himself back up.
“Sarah Rogers,” you whispered, eyes trailing across the smooth grooves of her name indented into the slab, voice thick with fondness. “What did she look like?”
Your arm wounded over the small of his waist. The two of you had visited the cemetery a few months prior, where you helped him scrub all the moss and dirt from her headstone. He told you about many of his adventures with Bucky before his time frozen in the ice, but very little about his mother.
A wistful smile touched the corner of his face. Now fully healed, much to your relief.
“She was blonde. Blue eyes. Crow lines, I think. Really faint, but they appeared every time she laughed.” There was a nostalgic warmth to his tone.
“Took after her, then.” You beamed down at the grave. “She must’ve been beautiful.”
Steve leaned into your grasp and kissed the very top of your head. “She was. She would’ve loved you, you know.”
“Yeah?”
“She would’ve thought you were perfect. She saw a lot of terrible things in her lifetime, but you—you would’ve made her laugh a lot.” A pause. The wind hummed a disjointed tune. “She always believed in me, even though she was terrified for me all the time. Worried herself sick. If only she knew I’d end up here…”
Your head landed on his bicep. “She knows. She knew from the very beginning.”
The blonde smiled at you again, and you couldn’t help but notice his crow lines, too. It was comforting to know that there was so much of his mother in him.
“You ready for lunch?”
“I’m starving.” you told him, before blowing a chaste kiss to the headstone. “See you soon, Mrs. Rogers.”
Steve began to lead you away, and he couldn’t seem to scratch the smile from his lips. The two of you started walking back home, taking your sweet time. You were saying something—something about a nice lasagna you had frozen in the fridge—
But Steve could barely hear any of it. He couldn’t hold it back anymore. He had to tell you now.
“I love you,” he interrupted. The words died on your tongue and you regarded him curiously, as if he’d grown a second head.
Apparently, there was a near manic look to his eye that prompted you to worriedly query, “Is something wrong, Steve—?”
Instead of answering, Steve stopped walking. He dropped down onto one knee, brandishing the ring box from his pocket, flicking it open. The realization broke across your features just a second later. Your eyes widened, and you reared back in shock.
And the words—the words just came tumbling out. Not at all what he’d scripted for months on end, but something entirely different. Something raw and unfiltered—purely from his heart. “I love you, more than I can ever put into words. You’re just—amazing, perfect in every goddamn way. I don’t want to go another day without calling you mine. I want to be yours, honey. All of me, every single bit of me, with all of you. It’s been an honor being your boyfriend. Really, it has, but I’m… I’m ready to be your husband, if you’ll have me. Will you marry me?”
There were tears pricking the corners of your eyes. You were only but a streak of color before you were yanking him forward, practically burying his face against your chest. He didn’t care that there was a rock digging into his knee. Barely even felt it.
The next moment, you were pulling away to yank him back up, kissing him like he was the very air you needed to breathe.
“Is that a yes?” he asked against your lips, slightly muffled. He was smiling, because he already knew your answer.
You nodded into the kiss, refusing to pull away. “I’d marry you a million times over, Steve. Again and again and again, until you get sick of me.”
“Could never get sick of you,” he whispered, forehead leaning over yours. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
The two of you broke apart minutes later, reluctantly, though you had permanent smiles etched across your faces the entire way back home. The ring fit you perfectly.
When the news broke to the rest of the Avengers, they all erupted into an array of groans and cheers, and multiple wads of cash were passed around. Natasha sent the two of you a pleased wink. You two just landed her a combined total of a hundred bucks, but some secrets were simply better left unsaid.

fairest city food culture
Tumblr media
This is a supplementary post to continue off of this larger TWST food culture compilation post (as that one is getting super long as is). Here, I'll cover all the new food-related lore dropped about the Shaftlands and specifically about Fairest City, which features in the Tapis Rouge event.
Shaftlands
Macarons are one of the Shaftlands' signature sweets. Cream and raspberry, as well as lychee, are the popular flavors at the moment.
Macarons can be frozen so recipients can eat them fresh.
There are people who collect the stylish boxes that macarons come in.
According to Vil, mixing flavored syrups with carbonated liquids is common in the Shaftlands.
Stewed foods are the Shaftlands' specialty. This is because there are many stories about the Fairest Queen preparing many foods in a pot.
Apples are the most popular fruit in the Shaftlands. They are used for drinks, desserts, jams, and even savory meal items.
Fairest City
There are few food stands in Fairest City. This is because eating on the streets is seen as bad manners.
There is a strong cafe culture.
Fairest City is famous for its cuisine and sweets. Their sweets in particular are well developed due to the city's cafe culture.
Sweets with a pleasant appearance are popular. The most famous of patisseries make sweets which are like pieces of art.
Some sweets featured in famous patisseries include tarts, chocolate, mousse, macarons, brioche, roll cakes, financiers, mille-feuilles, and cakes shaped like apples with apple sauce inside, caramel apples, etc.
A specialty of Fairest City is "cream puff rings", which are cream puffs in ring shapes. They are meant to resemble wheels on rail cars, since Fairest City is located near mines. It is said that the cream puff rings (which is filled with a thick, high-calorie cream) were originally given to hard-working miners to restore their energy.
Luxury stores may offer amenities in addition to providing their services or helping customers shop. For example, staff may offer VIP clients drinks or chocolates.
Fairest City’s hotels have swanky restaurants built into them for guests to dine in. The fanciest of eating establishments are five star restaurants that have full sets of cutlery and napkins which you unfold and place in your lap.
Fancy dining establishments offer food à la carte (ordered by the plate) and prix fixe style (picking your courses from a predetermined selection).
There is a drink called “Diabolo Menthe” served in Fairest City. It is a spearmint flavored syrup mixed with a slightly carbonated liquid. Very refreshing! (This is most likely a reference to the potion that the Evil Queen drinks to transform into an old woman.)
Eric Venue, Vil’s famous movie star father, uses a five-star restaurant to cater buffets for his movie shoots for every 6 hours of work. They also have snacks and drinks on demand (“craft services”), which includes coffee, milk, tea, juice, chocolate, fruits, and pancakes and waffles. Lots of light foods!
Many dishes at high-class eateries are French. For example, hors d’oeuvres might include escargot (snails), foie gras de canard (duck foie gras), and terrine a la campagne (country-style terrine). Courses are also named in French (viande and poisson courses, etc.).
Some dishes served include boeuf bourguignon (a beef and red wine stew) filet mignon de porc aux pruneaux (a pork filet with dried plum; it is made with pig heart, bouillon, and sauce), and flounder poêlé (flounder with an herb sauce). The beef bourguignon is a favorite dish in the five-star hotel restaurant that caters for Eric Venue.
Pork, especially the heart, is prized meat in Fairest City. Many of its dishes are pork-based. There is a story about how the Fairest Queen needed a heart for one of her potions and had her huntsman hunt as a tribute to her; the filet mignon de porc aux pruneaux dish was born from this legend.
The restaurant that caters for Eric Venue has a specialty dessert called tart fine pomme. It is a thin tart with slices apples. The restaurant uses the highest quality of apples (from Harveston), which are grown in a special soil, for their dishes and drinks.

Prompt 14 - Secret Identity
@wolfstarmicrofic July 14, word count 948
Because of his family, Sirius often used another name when dealing with people he didn't know. Especially when dating. Once they heard Black, that was it, they were suddenly obsessed with being introduced to his parents. He’d grown his hair long, and he avoided suits like the plague. If you put him next to a picture of his younger self, it would be hard to guess they were the same person.
He was being set up by a friend of a friend. He’d been adamant that his real name wasn’t mentioned. He had a rule that he only revealed his actual name if he thought it would go anywhere and, so far, that hadn’t happened.
He was nervous. Something about this date was making him jumpy. He tried to shake it off and think about the nice meal he was going to have tonight. He’d chosen his favourite restaurant, all the staff knew him and knew not to call him Sirius or Mr Black.
A tall, thin man in faded blue jeans, a slightly rumpled white shirt and an honest-to-god brown cardigan. Sirius looked around the restaurant to see who he was meeting. The man leaned in to ask the host something and, to Sirius’s astonishment, Celeste led the man over to his table. He jumped out of his seat when they stopped beside him and the man looked at him expectantly.
“Thank you, Celeste,” He held out his hand to his date. “Simon White,” He introduced himself.
“Remus Lupin,” Remus replied politely. They sat down and opened their menus.
Sirius already knew what he was ordering, so he observed Remus instead. He was very handsome now that he was closer, with gorgeous sandy hair that wound into cute little curls. If only he had a sense of style, he’d be batting them off instead of going on a blind date with him.
They made polite conversation and Remus seemed very nice, but Sirius was bored and not for the first time he wished he hadn’t come. Then Remus came out with the most outlandish, unexpected thing.
“You look like a good shag, wanna have a bit of fun?” Sirius spit his water out across the table.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” He mopped up the spilt liquid as best he could. Remus put his hand on top of Sirius’s.
“Simon, calm down, it’s only water. Now if it had been red wine I think the staff might throw you out,” He stage whispered.
“Nah, they love me in here,” Sirius waved him off.
“Do you come here often?” Remus asked, his brow furrowing.
“Er, yeah, it’s my favourite and I don’t cook so…” He didn’t dare say it was where he brought all his dates.
“So, Simon, what do you do?” Sirius felt like squirming, he hated that Remus was calling him by his fake name.
The man was growing on him, and he could almost see a possible future with this man.
They were tucking into their desserts. Sirius had ordered the lemon cheesecake and Remus had the chocolate fudge cake. Remus was regaling him with a prank he’d pulled at his boarding school that nearly got him kicked out.
“The toilets blew blue water everywhere, and they had to get in a line of portaloos on the front lawn to accommodate all of us while the plumbers tried to sort out the mess I made.” Sirius laughed a genuine laugh. He had tears in his eyes and was finally enjoying himself. “Did you ever get up to mischief when you were younger, Simon?” Sirius did shudder that time. Remus looked at him concerned. “Are you alright?” Sirius swallowed and braced himself.
“Sirius,” He said, screwing his eyes shut.
“Huh?” Remus asked, confused.
“My name isn’t Simon, it’s Sirius. I use a fake name on dates or else people want to know about my parents or the rest of the family and I can’t deal with that.” He confessed.
“So what is your real name?” Remus asked him.
“Sirius Black,” He watched as Remus’s eyebrows crept up his forehead.
“Oh,” He said. Sirius closed his eyes, a bit disappointed that he wouldn’t get to see Remus again and just when he was starting to have fun. “Well, I can happily say I have absolutely no interest in your family. No offence but they’re terrible,” Sirius’s head snapped up. Wait, what?
“You really don’t care who I am?” Sirius asked in wonder. Remus shook his head.
“Who cares where you come from? It’s about who you are that matters, and I can tell you’re nothing like them. A bit lonely, but you show me a single person who isn’t.” Sirius could have cried. Where had this amazing, caring man come from and how could he have ever wanted the date to be over because he was boring? Remus Lupin was anything but boring.
“Want to finish up here and come back to mine for coffee?” He dared to ask, putting himself out there in a way he never had before. Remus grinned a smile so big it took Sirius’s breath away.
“Turn it into a hot chocolate, and I’m yours,” Remus joked. Sirius felt his stomach doing summersaults. He’d never eaten a cheesecake so fast in his life. The bill was charged to his account, and they left. Sirius grabbed Remus’s hand on the way through the door and Remus linked their fingers together. Sirius felt like he could fly right now. It was ridiculous. He made a mental note to thank Marlene for the set-up. But for now, he had hot chocolate to make, he was just glad that he had the good stuff in.

So what did ended up on My Dessert Plates? The Burnt Cheesecake is sinfully good, worth going for second piece. The Longan Tart was surprisingly pretty delicious too followed by the not too sweet Pecan Tart. The Swiss Rolls on the second plate were just passable and the New York Cheesecake not rich enough for me but the Ondeh Ondeh Cake turned out nice though I would rather eat the actual one made from glutinous rice flour filled with sweetened desiccated coconut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ended the seafood feast with a cup of Double Chocolate Ice Cream filled with rich bitter chocolaty flavour and crunchy dark chocolate chips. Also had a cup of hot peppermint tea to wash down all the delectable food. As I must head back to the office for overtime work after this, I asked my dining partner if he had his fill and was ready to leave and that concluded our Father’s Day dinner outing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To summarize the dinner, it featured plenty of seafood like lobster, shellfish, crab and fish done in many cooking styles. If you are a fan of seafood, you did be wowed by the spreads which strangely doesn’t have freshly shucked oysters. This International Seafood Dinner Buffet is really a good value and we each paid about S$77 after factoring in the service charge and GST. Too bad the restaurant has since increased the price to S$88++ a pax which works out to be in the region of S$105 after adding on the service and tax.

More stoned head cannons
So I am stoned once again, and was talking to @ghostlygothicgay Hi BBY ily! And they just gave me "Thinking about date nights with the Sleep Token fellas." and my mind zoned out. So this is literally copied and pasted from the chat lol.
Tumblr media
So all of them: Constantly touching your arm, holding your hand. Listening to you talk. and nerd out. Definitely brings you your favorite flowers and chocolates or whatever sweet you like. They Rizz you tf up if you wear a new outfit or style your hair differently for said date. Now here's where they differ Vessel: Little day dates. cafes, mall dates. But on the really special ones he loves to sit slightly off center from you if you're sitting across from him. He likes the way the light bounces off your eyes at certain angles, especially if you're wearing glitter or sum. Reaches over the table to brush hair outta your face, even if you don't have hair in your face. He just thinks that you feel so soft, and he likes it. If given the choice he would rather stay in, have you away from prying eyes. Who needs to go out when he has the greatest meal sitting next to him? II: Goes all out on the date. Table reserved at your favorite restaurant. New outfit laid out on your bed, some new accessories as well. He makes sure you feel so sexy and just like eye candy. He loves showing that your his, arm around your waist, hand resting against the small of your back. If youre sitting across from him, expect constant puppy eyes filled with adoration. If he's sitting next to you, II will pull your legs into his lap. One hand on your thigh squeezing lightly, other hand propping his head up as you talk, or just tracing lazy shapes into your calf. Slowly making plans for later after you two get home. He definitely needs to save room for dessert. III: Now III LOVES showing you off. Makes a spectacle of it really. Will rent a limo, with the works. He is always getting you new outfits and like to match with you in some way. Always. He even takes you on a tattoo date to get matching tattoos. that's way you always match no matter what. HE loves playing footsie under the table, sometimes nudging a foot between your legs just to apply a little pressure before moving away just before the waitress comes. III will drag the date night out, just to tease you. The dinner at the restaurant? oh love, that's only the appetizer. IV: Now IV rolls differently I think. He's more of a late night run to a book store type of guy. He'll still make it a slight deal, wanting you get get a lil dolled up. But nothing extravagant. He purrs when you wear a certain neck accessory. He loves it when it gives you confidence. He loves watching you browse through books, carefully choosing the ones you want. Of course he helps you carry them, making mental notes of books you stare longing at, what books are in a series, etc. It doesn't matter what you're doing, if he stares for too long. His usual calm, relaxed demeanor starts shifting to dominate and possessive. Especially if someone else looks at you the way he does. He immediately moves closer to you, wrapping his hand around the back of your neck. Leading you to the register, promising to bring you back. Right now, he needs to get his little bookworm home and lay his claim.

how MHA characters would propose
gn!reader
Tumblr media
he would propose in private, he wants that moment to be just you and him. he would buy the biggest and shiniest ring to show how great his love is for you, he also just likes to spoil you. roses and candles on an open rooftop that he flies you to. he would hum a song as he bends down on one knee to ask you the big question. he’s holding back tears, a lot of them.
“baby bird, will you do the honour and marry me?”
Tumblr media
being a wanted criminal means his options are limited, but he’s still a very romantic man. he would definitely propose at night when the stars are out and the moon is shining. you’d be staring out the window and admiring the view, and behind you he’s setting up everything. a bouquet in one hand and the ring in the other (whether he bought them with his own money is another story). he would gently say your name, and as you turn around there he is. on one knee. a coy smile and a ring placed infront of you.
“marry me doll, right here right now.”
Tumblr media
even though he’s a sloth wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag 99% of the time, he knows a special moment like this should be done in style. he would put a suit on and tie his hair back, taking you to a fancy restaurant. a candle lit table outside, eating dinner with a beautiful view, almost as beautiful as you. he would order a special dessert, with chocolate writing that says ‘will you marry me’ and then he’d get on one knee and ask the question again. his face red.
“i know the dessert gives it away but...will you marry me y/n?”
Tumblr media
bakugo does romance in style. a home cooked meal of your favourite dishes and your favourite deserts. a warm bubble bath with scented candles and rose petals, and not forgetting the back massage he would treat you to. he’d help you dry your hair and you’d put on matching pyjamas. he’d lead you to the balcony, hugging you from behind while you guys look over the city lights. he’d let you go momentarily and you’d turn around to check on him, only to see him on one knee with a ring at hand.
“i promise to be good to you forever, not just tonight. so will you marry me?”
Tumblr media
deku isn’t very good at planning romantic events out, he’d probably just panic, overthink and create a plan in his notebook. despite all that, he would end up just asking you in the burst of the moment. you two would be walking around a park during the cherry blossom season, holding hands. the flowers and your beautiful face just fit perfectly together, he’d tell himself. and at that moment he knew you were the only one for him, so he panicked and got on one knee. but he only realised after he asked you to marry him that the ring was at home.
“m-marry me y/n! i’ll give you the ring later...sorry i forgot.”
Tumblr media
he’s probably replayed that exact moment over and over and over again since you two got together. a trip away from everyone, just you two, to the beach. a sunset walk after eating soba for dinner. the ocean breeze dancing through the air and the sun glistening in your eyes. you’re stunning to him. he looks composed but inside he’s shook and in awe. he knows this is the moment. he won’t make the same mistake his father did, he’d do it right. he’d take your hand to face him, the sunset witnessing your promises of everlasting love. he’d pull away from you, taking out a ring on one knee.
“won’t you marry me baby?”
a/n ~ this was a 100 follower special post, i really wanted to thank everyone for following, liking, reblogging my work it means a lot to me. i hope to continue pumping out fanfics, drabbles and series in the future.

Shadow of Himself
Tumblr media
Pairing: Isaac Mcadoo x Reader
Summary: Isaac's teammates try to guess who is mystery girlfriend is.
"Bruv, it's gotta be a Victoria Secret model" Jamie Tartt says.
"Nah, mate. She's an American singer, he's been obsessed watching the Voice for months." Colin Hughes says.
"American? Not international?" Richard Montlaur suggests, creating a louder argument with the team
"Okay y'all, what's going on? Y'all playing Guess Who: Celebrity edition?"
The boys turn around to Coach Lasso, Beard, and Kent as they stood by the entrance of their office.
"Coach, do you know Isaac's new lady lover?" Dani Rojas asks.
"I don't seem to know why I need to know." Lasso said, placing his hands in his pockets.
"I'm hosting an end of a season dinner at my restaurant for the whole team. Isaac asked me if he could bring a plus one." Sam said, feeling guilty he accidentally slipped it up to the whole team.
"And that concerns you how?" Beard asks.
"It's just news to us, no one knew about the girl. Not even Colin!" Bumbercatch pointed out to a solemn.
"You think you know a man." Colin says to himself, lowering his eyesight.
"Don't you think calling Issac's partner 'girl' a bit degrading?" Roy said, creating an unsettling silence in the locker room.
"Coach is right. I think we should be a tree and 'leaf' the situation. If Isaac is ready to tell us about who's dating and what not, we'll be here to support him."
"Ready for what?" Isaac said as he walks in with his bag.
The team try to stammer a lie, making Roy mutter a small 'fuck this' under his breath as he went inside the coaches' office.
"Uh, the dinner at Ola's. I've added a new dish to the menu!" Sam saved the conversation, hoping to not have a chair be thrown at his direction.
"Nice." Isaac said, walking over to his bench as he gets ready to go home.
Everyone of his team makes subtle eye contact with each other, wondering who would bring up the sensitive.
"Isaac, when are you going to bring your secret lover?" Jan Maas asks, ripping the bandaid as he always does. The whole team groans, throwing their used towels and dirty laundry at the Dutch player.
"Can't keep a secret from you all." Isaac muttered, snickering at the thought in a second.
"So you are seeing someone?" Jamie asks in a genuine tone.
"For everyone's information, yes. I am seeing someone. And no: she is not a model, singer, or a Romanian Spy." Isaac says, staring directly Thierry Zoreaux on the last part, who raises his hands in defense.
"You will meet her at the party, but till then, no one digs into my relationship. Got that?" Isaac demands. The whole team nods in agreement and go along their day, afraid to be stared down or beat up their captain.
Soon, Isaac drives home with a content smile on his face after he picked up some Thai food for dinner. He then gets outta of his car and unlock his door, seeing a pair of shoes that are 5 times smaller than his.
"Love, you here?" Isaac asks, as he takes off his shoes. He then lifts his head to see you standing there with a jean flared-skirt, beige blouse that silhouetted your figure just right, and your hair styled in an updo.
"Please tell me you got my pumpkin curry? They were out last time." You pleaded.
"You're in luck. They had it tonight." He said, raising the plastic bag for you to see.
"Gahh you're the best. Before heading back here, I grabbed you these for dessert." You raise your arm to show him his favorite candy, Rolos chocolate.
"That's why you're amazing" He said, giving you a kiss as he dips you down with his strong arms. Soon, you two set up dinner and talked about your day.
"Really, a Romanian Spy?" You ask, as Isaac told you what his friends were guessing your profession.
"Well you would look great in a spy costume."
"You wish you would." You remarked as Isaac slapped your but lightly, making you yelp and blush. You return the favor as he yelped louder and turning back to you with a mischievous look in his eye.
"You don't think me being a school librarian would make them think I'm boring?" You ask, looking up at him as you two sat down.
"You kidding? I think it's great you help out kids. And if they don't, i'll rough them up."
"I don't think your coaches will like it if you sent them to the hospital." You remark.
"Let them, cause no one will ever say a bad thing about you on my watch." Isaac said, taking your hand and kissing it.
You smile, feeling very confident in your relationship with him. You were a bit skeptical of course, as he was flaunting his money to impress you when you two were first dating. The both of you had a serious talk that splurging should be kept to a minimal (especially when you can't even afford to get his favorite cologne with 3 paychecks alone.)
As for the secrecy of your relationship, you two just wanted to spend your time privately with each other. He didn't like the idea of the press looking at his relationship under a microscope. But now that his team knows he's seeing someone, he realizes his privacy might not last for long.
"I wanted to ask you something."
"Oh no, that sentence never ended in a good situation." You remark, placing your glass down. You two scoot closer to each other by the table, and Isaac takes his hands in yours.
"I wanna introduce you to the team. Sam is having a private dinner party for the end of the season. No press or cameras, it will be just me introducing my amazing girlfriend to my friends."
"I'm your girlfriend now?" You quip an eyebrow, smirking.
"If you like to be... I mean what do you call four months of dating-"
You cut him off with a kiss as he holds you tenderly, melting underneath your sweet lips.
"I'd love to come."
Isaac smiles brightly as he kisses you again.
+
As the season ended, Isaac drove you over to Ola's and parked a few feet away. He looks over nervously by the window as he bounced his knee.
"Hey, are you alright? If not, we can leave." You said, placing your hand by his thigh.
He doesn't respond as his eyes dart to his designer shoes.
"Are you afraid your friends are going to say something?" You ask, knowing that his friends have a mouth like no body's business.
"No it's not like that, it's just... I used to be this big shot man who was undefinable. And when I'm with my mates, I become this dick that I don't recognize. I'm just afraid you won't like me if you see the worse parts of me, since it's pretty hard to imagine a life without you innit."
Your eyes soften as he finishes. All this time, you thought that you didn't matter enough to his adventoruos life when it was him that was having these insecurities.
"Isaac. I understand what I was getting into when I found out you were a pro-footballer. You come with a package, and yeah, every man has a very shitty phase but you pointing it out matters. Don't beat yourself up because you used to be a rich twat-"
He shoots you a glare, but he turns it into a snicker.
"I love you, and I hope that the both of us can grow into better people." You intertwine your hands with his.
Isaac looks at you with those dark brown eyes that you adore so much. He's been beating himself up for thinking he wasn't good enough for you. But it was because of you that he wanted to be a better man.
He takes your hand and kisses it.
"Lemme introduce my amazing girlfriend to my team."
Eagerly getting outta of the side of his car, Issac opens your side as he walks with you hand in hand to Ola's. He takes a deep breath before looking at you then walking inside where he's greeted by his new family, now forgetting why he was ever scared. He'll never be a shadow of himself, now that he has you as his light.

"So are we sure she's not a Romanian spy?"

A Fic Menu for Friendship!
My cherished @schnarfer. How wonderful that our little pieces of the internet intersected such that we could meet. It really does feel like I've known you always sometimes...
And how delightful it has been to be a bit of a garçon de cuisine in your kitchen as of late! Inspired by our convo about reclists as pairing menus, for the @swiftiscruff friendship exchange^ I've whipped up a very non-serious one (liberties absolutely taken with the genre) that is a riff on your masterlist and its wonderful contents. 🖤✨
For increased accessibility/given that tumblr can sometimes be weird with images, text of the menu with some formatting preserved is available below the cut! I haven't included links because they're all findable via Al's masterlist; see above!
^Thank you to Cat and Han for creating this event! It's been so lovely to see everyone's posts.

Cafe Schnarfer
Beautiful works handcrafted by head chef Al
Tonight's Menu
-First Courses-
If Wishes Came True (3.87k)
The newest dish on our menu. A perfect tasting platter of some of our chef’s specialties: sparkling love, a character you adore but want to give a firm talking to, and endings that make the angst feel incredibly worth it.
Recommended pairing A healthy slice of cake and a cola flavoured lollipop.
Difficult (12.03k)
The first dish developed for the restaurant! A must for those who enjoy notes of instant chemistry, a bit of self-destruction, a lot of Fleabag energy, and hopeful endings.
Recommended pairing A strawberry milkshake, whipped cream vodka optional* *strongly suggested to make things a little messy, just don’t accidentally give it to the kids
-Entremet-
Purple Haze (5k)
An opportunity to take a brief break from our menu's angsty notes to indulge in a heady, vintage-styled treat. This isn’t your average op-shop find, we’re talking high-end fashion, baby!
Recommended pairing A couple of gin bucks should do the trick. Or just the ginger ale if you’re not in the mood for a buzz!
-Second Courses-
Go Your Own Way (10.87k)
A dish close to the hearts of our whole kitchen. A perfect selection for those who have fallen for a fuckboy and find it therapeutic to recognise your past in a wonderfully raunchy but still angsty story. The finish of this dish manages to incorporate senses of both sadness and hopefulness, making for a cathartic aftertaste.
Recommended pairing A warming Mexican hot chocolate. You'll appreciate how it matches the spice and provides you with some added comfort when things get achy.
Endurance (15.11k)
You will never forget the first time you experience this dish and will always find a way to convince yourself that you aren’t boring for ordering it time after time. A slice of spiciness coupled with a heavy dash of the forbidden add immense depth to a texturally rich feast full of historical flavour.
Recommended pairing A U.S. Army-issued chocolate bar and maybe a prairie oyster for the vibes. But then make sure to treat yourself to some actually  nice-tasting chocolate.
-Dessert-
The Kit Kat Trilogy (16.25k)
The dessert you’ll think about for 10 years and then come back for more. Save room because it is full of delicious angst and delightful romance that you won’t be able to help but consume whole. On a day when you’re low on time, you’ll consider stopping by for just another taste of this memorable sweet treat, we guarantee it.
Recommended pairing A full roast dinner. Even if it’s just for yourself. And maybe a glass of champagne to throw at the wall when things get angsty for a sec.
-Digestifs-
Dial Drunk (7.70k)
Let’s celebrate the end of our meal with lots of hope that emerges from some long-endured darkness.
Recommended pairing The loveliest hot breakfast you could possibly make, full of all your favourites and with plenty of food to go round.
Illicit Affairs (7.47k)
Let’s derail the end our meal with a real hot mess. Maybe you’ll wish you had picked the sweeter option, but, damn, you’ll enjoy the deeply achy ride.
Recommended pairing Wrap yourself in a blanket warm from the dryer for this one. And maybe have some water? The lack of flavour will be a good break from the intensity of it all while still keeping you hydrated.
I love you, Al! 🖤😘

limoreau first valentine's day... walk with me!
a short and simple little drabble from marie’s pov. 🥹 finally have the energy to write a little something…… a month later.
Tumblr media
jordan had ever spent their valentine’s day with a romantic partner. someone to kiss, cuddle and spoil with chocolates, flowers or a nice dinner. the day was often full of loneliness that they bottled up and pretended that it didn’t bother them when they saw couples holding hands, or how fancy restaurants were full of people in love sharing wine and desserts.
marie always wanted a valentine’s day like the ones she remembers her parents preparing for — sitting on her mother’s bed and watching her delicately adorn herself with jewelry. The way her hand was so careful and steady as she curled her lashes and added a few coats of mascara before blotting her reddened lips with tissue. oh how marie would sit with wide eyes and a big smile as the two of them wished their daughters a goodnight as the babysitter prepared them a simple meal for dinner.
this year would prove to be different for both of them. they had settled into the comfort of their relationships, months of steady dates and nights spent together. sharing secrets and admitting their silly fears, or guilty pleasures. the two of them were slowly getting to know each other inside and out.
that’s why valentine’s day made them both so fucking nervous.
it was jordan who proved to be quite eager and arranged the date before marie even had the chance, two weeks earlier letting her know that she should clear her schedule for the evening and dress nice. they thought that beat her to it. the bouquet of roses being delivered to them in class proved otherwise — cheeks burning a deep red when they saw the note attached and their classmates watched in awe.
“see you tonight. love, m.”
both of them had chosen to keep away from each other for the day, wanting to prove that absence makes the heart grown fonder.
all it really did was make marie nervous as she sat in the floor length mirror in her dorm with emma, her makeup bag opened on the floor and her braids pulled back. the nauseating feeling of an anxious stomach made her groan.
“god! you’ve been sitting there for half an hour. just let me do it!” he roommate grumbled from her bed before jumping down onto the floor and settling next to marie. she turned her friend around and sighed softly, admiring the way she was so nervous and fidgeting, “marie… sit still.”
an hour had passed when marie was dressed, a red dress hugging her curves that ended just above the knee and a black leather coat cropped just above her hips. she was thankful for emma’s expertise when it came to shopping, god knows that marie missed out on a few years worth of america’s most trending styles.
after a few minutes of panic and a quick pep talk from emma, marie found herself waiting in front of the dormitories as she looked around the snow-covered surroundings as the sun had almost completely set. her hands clutched onto a small purse that she borrowed from emma, nails digging into the fabric as she tried to focus on the way the cold air entered her nose with each gentle breath.
“damn—“ a low voice said from behind her, brown eyes widening as she quickly turned and met face to face with her partner. they had been on so many dates, but this was so new. so nerve wracking. even jordan, who’s breath was taken away, looking anxious.
“i, uh,” marie lets out an awkward, breathy laugh with a smile that reaches her eyes, “you too. damn.” she says, kind of grimacing at the way it sounded so silly coming from her.
“i’m so lucky.” is all jordan says through a heavy breath as a slight smirk rises to their lips. they close the distance between each other, a hand finding its way to her hip and lips meeting in a kiss. one that lingered longer than intended and left them both a little breathless and almost eager to continue then and there, “i missed you all day,” they spoke against her lips before pulling away, still remaining close, “thanks for the flowers.”
she let her eyes drop down for a moment, sheepish and shy — her demeanour akin to the time they had their first date.
“well, you beat me to making plans. couldn’t let you take all the glory of the day for yourself.” marie smiled, meeting their gaze as she straightened up and chewed absentmindedly on her bottom lip.
“fair enough,” jordan breathed out with a gentle laugh, their hand sliding so easily into marie’s grasp, “you don’t mind if it take it back, right? i mean, i outdid myself tonight.” they boasted proudly, tugging marie along as they made way for the student parking lot.
“yeah, okay,” she playfully scoffed, “maybe wait to brag until i actually have a good time.” she chided him as they stepped over the fresh powder snow that settled on the ground during the day. a trail of footprints leading to jordan’s car as they teased each other.
“trust me, babe. you’ll have a good time.” jordan snorted as they settled inside the vehicle.
marie, did in fact, have a really good time.

bestie, may I please request tall 6ft lady x soap 👀 preferably civilian lady x military 🧼 can be smutty
thank you love your mind and talent 🧎🏼‍♀️
This was literally so cute to write. Of course there’s smut. It’s me. I hope you love it 💕
Warnings - fluff, unprotected sex, p in v
Soap sat on the sofa nervously twiddling his thumbs, he’d never felt so nervous. Tonight was going to be the night he was going to ask you to marry him. You’d been together 4 years, 4 wonderful, fun filled years. As he sat nervously waiting for you to return home he reminisced on the day he first met you.
He was sat in his favourite Italian restaurant with Gaz, Price and Ghost. They’d gone out for a meal to celebrate a mission well done. He was in his own world, until he saw you.
You glided over to their table, to take their order but Soap couldn’t peel his eyes away from your legs. Long, slender, defined. He felt like his eyes were travelling for days until he found your face. A gleaming smile staring back at him.
The team ordered their food with no issues, they were polite, charming even. Until you got to Soap, he ended up tripping over his words and ordering the wrong dish entirely. He thought he blew it, but lucky for him you adored how shy and flustered he got. You slid your number to him when they paid the bill. The rest was history.
Hearing the keys jangle in the door his heart rate sky rocketed. ‘Hi Johnny!’ You chirped as you entered the house you shared. ‘Hey babe! How was work’ he called as you faffed around in the hallway. ‘Was alright, had some absolute arse speak to me like shit though, want to …’ you voice trailed off as you stepped into the living room.
Soap had sprinkled rose petals over the floor, lit candles and lit the open fire. The fire was the selling point for the house, the Victorian style hearth had stolen your heart. ‘Johnny?’ You asked timidly, as you placed your hands over your mouth in shock. He came over to you and slid his arms around your waist. ‘Just wanted to do something nice.’ You placed your hands over his squeezing them gently.
He led you over to the table where a rather impressive dinner sat waiting for you. ‘Did you make all this?’ Tears filled your eyes, utter happiness and shock flowed through you. ‘Yeah, had a fight with the food processor earlier’ he laughed. He’d cooked a simple but delicious pasta dish which left you satisfied. Sipping at your wine you couldn’t stop smiling. ‘I can’t believe all this Johnny. You didn’t have to.’ He cupped your jaw and placed a firm passionate kiss on your lips. ‘I wanted to.’
He brought out dessert which was a rich chocolate cake, he reported he made it. But you had your suspicions. As you finished you cake you noticed Soap becoming more twitchy. Before you could ask what was wrong, he grabbed your hand. ‘You know I love you so much. And I know we’ve spoken about it before. But I feel it’s the right time now.’ Your breath hitched in your throat, tears now free falling down your cheeks. ‘Will you marry me?’
You sobbed, the happiest sob you’ve ever released. Jumping up from the chair you flung your arms around him ‘YES JOHNNY! A thousand times yes!’ Smiling into the kiss the salty taste of your tears pricked at the sides of your mouths.
Picking you up Soap didn’t break the kiss, he walked you over to the sofa and place you gently beneath him. He deepened the kiss, his hands roamed over your body. Desperately trying to touch every part of you. ‘Fuck, I love you Johnny’ you whispered into his neck. ‘I love you’ he replied nipping at your jaw.
He worked his way down your torso, desperately clawing at your skin. He undid your trousers and slid them down to your feet. He looked up at you from the floor, your long legs causing him to go wild. Apart from your lips they were his favourite part of you. He trailed gentle kisses from your ankle to your thigh. You rolled your hips as he placed his lips above your centre. Already dripping from his touch.
‘Johnny, please just fuck me, I wanna feel you.’ His blue eyes looked up at you. Your skin glistening in the glow from the fire, your hair was messy, lips swollen. A picture of pure beauty before him. ‘So needy love’ he whispered into your thigh.
He pulled back and removed his clothes as you pulled down your panties. He placed his forearms next to your head as he lined himself up, hitching your leg over his hip. Slowly he pushed into you, the stretch taking away your breath. You arched your back as you melted into the sofa. ‘Fuck’ he moaned as he felt you around his cock. He set up a pace, which slow, sensual. Now Soap could fuck, but tonight he wants to worship you, make love to you.
You pulled him closer, arms around his neck and nestled into his Mohawk. His breaths filled your ears as he thrusted into your weeping pussy. The way you clenched around him had him seeing stars. You reached down and toyed with your clit, he pulled back slightly to watch you. He loved nothing more that seeing you play with yourself. ‘Just like that, let me see you cum’ he panted. ‘Fuck Johnny, fill me please, I wanna feel you.’
He thrusts increased, harder, faster, deeper. Feeling you clench as you came he threw his head back, finding his own release. He buried his face in your neck, breathing in your scent as he came back down to earth. You toyed with his hair as you whispered sweet nothings to him, your Johnny.

Have some chill fic. The team stop for lunch after work.
~~
“Um, Kev?”
“Yeah?”
“I thought we were going home?”
“After we eat.” The Tennysons shared a look as Kevin parked the car in front of a small, nondescript building on the outskirts of one the small towns they sometimes found themselves driving through. There was an outlet mall-style cheap sign on the front declaring it ‘Joe’s Pit’, picnic tables to one side with some patrons seated, and plywood cut-outs of various farm animals against the walls- one of which had ‘I’m beefalicious’ on it in a child’s scrawl. They could hear dogs barking when they stepped out onto the seemingly recently paved parking lot, and smell wood smoke lingering in the air.
Neither Ben nor Gwen seemed overly impressed.
“We have restaurants back in Bellwood, you know,” Ben pointed out as they headed for the door. Kevin just rolled his eyes.
“This place has five stars on DynaDine,” he said, “and apparently some great fucking lamb and mutton.”
“Who barbecues lamb,” Gwen asked, face screwing as she shared another look with her cousin.
“Too damn few people.”
A bell over the door rung as they entered. Maybe five tables, three of them occupied, took up most of the room, aside from a single counter in the front. The walls were covered in tin cut-outs of farm animals and equipment, photos of various people, some framed some not, and a mural in the back of a man driving a horse-drawn sleigh full of food that had very clearly originally been of Santa Claus. Some country song about gambling was playing, and a big posterboard sign behind the counter declared No Take Out. At the counter was a woman old enough to be their mothers, with a green streak in her hair and a broad grin on her face.
“Hey, how’s it going? I’m Maggie and welcome to Joe’s Pit! Eating in or heading out?”
“Oh, like he’d let food in the car,” Ben said, rolling his eyes and dodging an elbow to the side.
“Hey Maggie!” Kevin threw on a smile like there’d been no commentary. “It’s going good but, we haven’t eaten in at least an hour so…” Maggie laughed.
“Well, we can certainly fix that problem here,” she said, grabbing three paper menus out of a stack. “Any food issues going on?”
“He can’t have peanuts, I can’t have strawberries, and I keep kosher.”
“Alright.” She nodded and grabbed up a marker, popping the cap off with her teeth. “You’re not gonna want these then,” she said as she crossed various items off on one of the menus, “no pork, no dairy.”
“That’s right,” Kevin said with a nod, “and nothing off the ass half of the cow.”
“And nothing from the back end… You’re not gonna want these either, the blueberry sauce has some strawberry to balance it out and the chocolate berry strudel has ‘em too.” Handing the menu off to Kevin, she started work on a second. “And you’re gonna want to avoid some of these desserts. We don’t make ‘em on site, they’re from The Flour Shop in town- left at the third intersection on Main, right at the second turn, you’ll know it when you see it- but some of ‘em Amy likes to put peanuts in for I swear no reason at all.”
“Thanks,” Ben said as he accepted the menu, all of them chuckling. Final menu in hand, Maggie turned her attention to Gwen, who put up a hand.
“I can eat anything,” she said with a smile and a laugh from Maggie.
“Saves me some trouble then,” she said as Gwen took the paper. “You kids gonna eat in here, or sit outside?”
“Yeah, about that,” Ben said, a frown coming over his face, “do you guys have dogs?”
“Oh,” Maggie said, “don’t mind them, they’re loud but they’re friendly, and they can’t get out of their run. There should be plenty of seating away from it if you prefer.” Nodding, the Tennysons looked at each other, gesturing like they were trying to telepathically decide where they were going to sit. Kevin and Maggie watched for several seconds before he just rolled his eyes.
“We’re sitting outside.” The cousins frowned at him, visibly put out that he’d taken charge without them, while Maggie nodded.
“Alright then, I’ll be out to get your orders in a few minutes.”
“Great,” Kevin said, taking a step back that prompted the cousins to head back for the door, “thanks Maggie.”
“Not a problem.”
The bell chimed again as they left, Gwen leading the way as they hooked a hard right towards the tables.
“You know,” Ben said, eyes mostly on the paper in his hand, “I don’t think there’s a single smoothie on this menu.”
“Oh no,” came Kevin’s deadpan response, “the horror.”
True to Maggie’s word, as they entered the picnic area a fenced off spot between the tables and the pits came into view. There were three large dogs inside it, each of which could have been an example image for ‘mutt’ on Wikipedia and each of which was losing their minds barking at them. It was a point of particular focus as they scanned for a place to sit.
“So…” Gwen said, and Kevin shrugged.
“I don’t know about you guys, I like dogs.”
“So we’re sitting by them,” Ben said in a tone somewhere between teasing and griping.
“I’m sitting by them, I don’t know what you guys are doing.” With a sigh and an eye roll Gwen started for the table nearest the chainlink, Kevin smiling brightly at her.
“Why are we going along with this,” she asked.
“Because every time we stop somewhere to eat you guys outvote me,” Kevin said, “and I want lamb, so I’m vetoing your asses.” Shaking her head, she smiled back at him.
“You’re lucky I like you.”
“Trust me, I know.”
The benches on the picnic table were worn smooth, with just the slightest divots where people had sat over and over for however many years it had taken for the thing to turn grey and split at the ends. It was more comfortable than either Tennyson seemed to have expected, and they found themselves relaxing as they sat down. Helping was the fact the dogs stopped barking as soon as Kevin took a seat within arm’s length, instead falling to whining for attention and licking at his fingers as he stuck them through the fence to scratch at their muzzles.
“Don’t think I’ve had actual barbeque since I stopped playing baseball,” Ben noted as he and Gwen started properly scanning their menus. Both ignored Kevin’s sole focus on not-quite baby talking the dogs.
“Emily’s brought back leftovers from a date night one time we have a sleepover,” Gwen said, “and I think that’s the only time I’ve had it.” Face twisting, Ben gaped at her.
“How have you not had barbeque except for one time,” he said. “Kevin’s had enough to have opinions and he hasn’t had shit in life!”
“Mom doesn’t like it,” she said with a shrug. “She doesn’t even like it when dad puts barbeque sauce on grilled chicken.”
“My cousin,” Ben said, shaking his head, “has been deprived. Here-” He leaned over the table to point at an item on her menu. “-grab the combo, some ribs, some chicken, some beef.”
“No lamb,” she said with a smirk, pulling a snicker from Ben.
“If Kevin doesn’t drop some on our plates I’ll be shocked.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll get the combo. Maybe some coleslaw and macaroni. What are you grabbing?”
“I’ve never had a beef rib before, might grab that. Don’t know about sides.”
“Grab the fruit skewer,” Gwen said. Ben raised an eyebrow at her. “I just noticed it, it looks good.” Leaning back in his seat, Ben scanned the menu again.
“How about this, you get the fruit, I’ll get the macaroni, and we can all split one of this chocolate mini bundt cake they’ve got down here.”
“Sounds good to me…”
True to her word, it didn’t take too long for Maggie to come out and track them down, chuckling at Kevin’s intense focus on playing with the dogs right up until Gwen tugged on his sleeve.
“You kids ready to order or can I just get you some drinks,” she asked as Kevin finally took a look at the menu, kind enough to look to Gwen first.
“I’d like an ice tea please,” she said, “with the combo plate, some coleslaw, and one of these fruit skewers.”
“Alright,” Maggie said as she noted it down, “and what do you want on your plate? You can get up to three smoked meats.”
“Can I get the chicken quarter, some spare ribs, and some brisket?”
“Sure thing.” Ben checked the menu again as she turned to him.
“Actually, can I get the burnt ends? With two things of macaroni.”
“Yes, you can. And will you be getting a drink too?” He beamed up at her, setting his menu aside.
“Yeah, a coke’d be great.”
“Okay.” With a quick note, she turned finally to Kevin. “And are you ready?”
“I need the lamb leg,” he said with a nod, “some mutton ribs, and some brisket-”
“If I’d known he was buying the restaurant…”
“-and can I get the corn and veggie skewer for sides?” Chuckling, Maggie took down his order.
“Will those be per meat order, or do you just want the one each?”
“Per order, I’m all my money’s paying for.”
“Smart guy,” she said. “And your drink?”
“A lemonade.”
“Alright then.” Pencil in hand, she counted off everything as she listed them. “One iced tea with combo plate- chicken quarter, spare ribs, and brisket, fruit skewer and coleslaw on the side. One coke with beef ribs, two macaronis on the side. One lamb, one mutton, and one brisket, with three corn, three veggie skewers, and a lemonade. I get everything?”
“If we could have one of those mini bundt cakes too,” Ben added, “the chocolate one?”
“And one chocolate bundt cake.” Still smiling at them, Maggie waited for them all to nod approval before dropping her clipboard to her side. “Alright, I’ll have the drinks out to you in a minute, and your food’ll take a bit longer.”
“Okay,” Kevin said, Gwen quickly following with a-
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. I’ll be right back.”
Politely, they waited until she had walked away before the cousins rounded on Kevin.
“‘An hour’,” Ben said, grinning as he teased, “dude, have you eaten today?!”
“You don’t see lamb and mutton often,” came the rebuttal alongside a shrug and a smile of Kevin’s own, “I’ve gotta make the most of it.”
“We are not splitting the bill evenly this time,” Gwen laughed, “not a chance.”
“Oh yeah, the one time it’s me instead of Ben upping the charge,” Kevin said, gesturing between the two of them with feigned offense.
“He ups it by like ten bucks, you upped it by thirty.”
“At least,” Ben added, turning to Gwen. “Did you see that part of the menu? I didn’t look, because I care about not spending all our money-”
“I’m not deaf, Ben, I know you were expecting me to share.”
“You’re going to have to- three meals, you won’t be able to fit behind the wheel, we’ll be stuck here overnight.”
“You seriously underestimate me and my car.” Smiling, Gwen shook her head.
“I’m just worried you’re going to rupture something.” Grinning back, Kevin slung an arm around her shoulders and strained to watch Maggie returning with two glasses and a soda can over Ben’s head.
“Well then, you two are just gonna have to try some lamb then, aren’t you?”
~~
It was with groans of satisfaction and stomachs just on the non-painful side of stuffed that they all dropped back into the car, Kevin fitting perfectly fine despite Ben’s teasing.
“I need to bring Julie out here at some point,” Ben said as he adjusted his seatbelt, Gwen looking about ready to take a nap in front of him.
“I vote we make a bi-monthly thing,” she said, “every other week, double date, for the rest of our lives.”
In the driver’s seat, Kevin took advantage of their distraction to pull out his phone, opening up DynaDine and leaving a quick review before they got back on the road.
K11- Subscribed User, Non-Visible Mutations, Food Restrictions Friendly, accommodating service, great food, large portions, cute dogs. 5/5 must visit location. Make sure to get the lamb.
