Maria Fielding in Visual Novels

Since (most of) these are psychological thriller romance visual novels, I will say this about Maria's personality in relationships with yanderes:

Maria is easy to lie to, but hard to manipulate.

She is very trusting and respectful of others and their feelings, so she won't push on a lie she notices one (she usually doesn't.)

However, she is extremely pragmatic and logical, and will call out contradictions in things like gaslighting or manipulation. You can't convince her of something she knows isn't true, and she will point it out if someone impedes what she believes to be an obvious boundary.

I have more doodles but I’ll post em later! Not happy with her gown design in this but it fits with the reference I used! I wonder who she’s point that gun at???? 🧐

Dulce wouldn’t own a gun. But she’d definitely have a knife hidden somewhere lol

Dulce has albinism, and she wears it proudly 💕 her eye sight is bad but not to an extreme. She usually wears her glasses she can see but every thing looks blurry! She is a Latina and though she is adopted she has a very faint accent. Her birth mother is puerto rican. But doesn’t know what her birth father was or is. She only knew Spanish as a toddler and she struggled with English for a while. But couldn’t shake the accent 100% but it’s sometimes not too noticeable.

Dulces outfits 💕she had a muted layback style she isn’t into wearing pants or jeans, she really hates jeans. Will wear shorts on occasion though. She will very much steal others clothes too so Ezra, Sammy and Blaire watch out. If you’re missing something it’s probably in her closet.

Beginning Of The End

Hi! It's Steph's birth month, so I wanted to include them in my first fic. This is a moment in the past before the game began. I used my Sugar, Nora. She's a bit toxic but very human and very traumatized. (Also, I'm new to this, so sorry if the formatting is weird.)

Trigger Warning! Mentions of abuse, denial of it, arranged marriage, angry outbursts, breaking of an object, and severe self-loathing

Nora needed to talk to someone. She couldn’t process this alone. She paced the length of her room, each step feeling like an eternity.

Steph would be here soon.

She glanced at the tea tray on the low table. Her parents’ hammered-in insistence on flawless hospitality had been thoroughly ingrained, even when her guest was Steph, who couldn’t care less about sugar cubes and fancy imported tea.

A knock at the door froze her for a moment before she rushed to open it. They’re here– it’s happening.

Steph stood there, slightly disheveled with a look that could be interpreted as concern. “You caught me in the middle of a workout,” they greeted, stepping inside and shrugging off their coat. Their sharp brown eyes scanned her face. “What’s this about? Your message was cryptic.”

Nora bit her lip and gestured for Steph to follow her to the bed. “I needed to talk to you,” she said, her voice tight with nervous energy.

Steph settled into their usual spot, leaning back with casual detachment. “That much was obvious. Mind clueing me in on what about?”

Nora sat across from them, wringing her hands. “It’s about... Kenneth.”

That got Steph’s attention. Their expression flickered, just for a moment, before returning to its usual nonchalance. “What about him?”

Nora hesitated, her hazel eyes darting to the window. “Our parents have... arranged for us to marry.”

Steph straightened, their posture going rigid, clearly caught off guard. “What? Are you serious? I thought you were– ” They paused, searching for the right words. “You never mentioned anything like this.”

“I didn’t know,” Nora quickly interjected, her voice anxiously raised. “It’s... it’s something they’ve been planning. I never knew. My parents and his parents,” She took a deep breath, trying to sort her racing thoughts. “They decided it years ago. I never even realized. But now it’s happening, and... I don’t know what to feel.”

Nora tried to smile, but it trembled. “They think it’s for the best. To merge the families, strengthen ties, all of that.”

Steph stared at her, their jaw tight. “And you’re just cool with this?”

“I– ” Nora’s hands clenched in her lap. “I don’t know. I mean, Kenneth and I... we’ve always been close, haven’t we? It’s not like he’s a stranger. And– ” She took a shaky breath. “He’s the only one I can trust not to leave me in the dirt like a used piece of gum.”

Steph’s eyes softened for the briefest of moments before hardening again. “Nora, that’s not a reason to marry someone.”

“Why not?” Nora snapped, her voice sharp with a defensive edge. “Do you know how many people have walked out of my life? I know you have, so you should understand. Kenneth... he’s stayed. Even when things got bad, he didn’t leave.”

Steph could recognize that they were walking on a fine line but they couldn’t stop the words. “He didn’t leave, but he’s hurt you. Don’t tell me he hasn’t. I’ve seen it, Nora.”

Nora flinched, her hazel eyes glistening with unshed tears. “You don’t understand. I deserved it! I always deserve it! He used to be kind and... and gentle. He’s still that person deep down. I know he is. It’s just... I ruined him with my poison.”

“Nora,” Steph said, tone firm, unwilling to negotiate, “the Kenneth from our childhood is lost. Accept it. You can’t build a future on memories and delusion.”

“I know!” Nora interjected, her voice breaking with emotion. “I’m not blind! Kenneth has his issues, but– ” A pitiful smile found its way to her lips. “He loves me. I know it. He wouldn’t put up with my bullshit if he didn’t. He would have thrown me to the curb years ago! But he... He wants me. Loves me. He won’t leave.”

Nora shook her head, standing abruptly and crossing the room. “You don’t get it. You’ve always been strong, Steph. You don’t need anyone. But I– I can’t be alone. I need someone.”

Steph stood as well, their voice rising. “You think it’s easy for me to watch you tie yourself to someone who makes you miserable half the time?”

The words hung in the air, heavy and raw.

Nora turned to face them with a mixed expression of anger and desperation. “What am I supposed to do, then? Say no? Disappoint my parents? Burn every bridge I have?”

Steph took a step closer, their voice steady now. “You’re supposed to think about what you want. Not what your parents want. Not what Kenneth wants. You.”

Nora’s shoulders slumped, and the fire in her eyes dimmed. “I don’t know what I want, Steph. I don’t know if I even deserve to want anything anymore.”

Steph hesitated, then placed a hand on her shoulder. “You deserve more than this. You deserve someone who makes you feel like you’re enough, not someone who keeps tearing you down.”

“Oh, is it just that simple, is it?!” Nora wailed as she flung a nearby vase against the wall, smashing it and leaving an ugly dent. “And pray tell, who is this mystery knight in shining armor?! Who else would put up with this monster?!”

The way Steph’s face tightened, it was clear they wanted to say something, but they swallowed it down quickly. “I’m leaving.”

Those words felt like ice water had been poured over Nora. “Wait!” Her voice was panicked as she rushed after Steph, but they were already out the door before she could catch them. She fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably, staring at the broken vase.

She was a poison.

Fun fact: I like to headcannon that Sarah (her adopted sister) curled her hair to match hair with Penelope since her hair naturally curls up like spirals. (I wonder why....)

Maria Fielding in Visual Novels

Restart Heart:

Backstory Changes: Scrap her whole family story, she is Maria Dust, adopted as a child, and has a little sister, Sarah Dust. Also, the whole Kenneth debacle happened.

It should be noted I'm basing this off the game content that has been released and a few posts of lore from the official blog. There is a lot I do not know about these characters, and I can change this post accordingly as I learn more!

(Note: there is no set love interest 💘 for Maria in this universe yet because I want to see how this story progresses and learn more about the characters!)

Relationships:

EZRA: "They're. So. Cool." Maria likes Ezra, they're always considerate and friendly with her. But Maria also finds him very intimidating because he's just so confident and composed all the time. Maria isn't insecure, but she can be dorky and nervous, so she wouldn't say she's on Ezra's level of cool. She would be stunned if she learned they wanted to date her.

BLAIRE: "Blushing? Who's blushing? Not me." Maria has a little crush on Blaire but hides it well. What can she say, she appreciates outgoing people and is a sucker for beautiful women. Maria sincerely likes Blaire a lot platonically as well, and is more than happy with being friends, but if she has the chance, she's shooting that shot. She just needs to work up the nerve.

SAMMY: "We get along!" Maria likes Sammy a lot! They don't talk often, but she loves history so they like to discuss their common interests whenever they see them. Sammy is certainly someone Maria would like to be friends with.

CHRIS: "My buddy!" Maria likes to spend time with him! They talk about sports, movies, and their day-to-day lives, and they live together well, but they're not particularly close. If he asked her out, she'd consider it. If Maria learned about his "secrets," the fight will be enormous. Maria can get angry when a boundary is crossed.

STEPH: ".....It's Steph." They've been best friends since they were kids. But when Maria began dating Kenneth towards the beginning of college, they had steadily less contact, and basically lost it completely when Kenneth proposed. Maria constantly reached out to Steph during the engagement to no avail. Now that it's off and Steph is suddenly back, Maria is hesitant, not wanting to push them away but also not really comfortable. She would still do anything for them, and she still wants them around, she just doesn't know how to resolve this discomfort about their friendship.

BESS: "My boss!" Maria greatly admires and respects Bess, and looks up to her a bit. They are friends!

KENNETH: "He's dead to me." They were friends growing up, and dated throughout college. The proposal was sudden and Maria felt pressured, so she agreed and focused all her energy on planning the wedding. She punched him in the face when they broke up. Maria honestly doesn't know if she loved him or not, now that she has time to think things over. She's... angry everything she worked for fell apart, and angry that he betrayed her after being in her life for so long. But she's not sad that she won't spend her life with Kenneth. Either way, she never wants to never see him again.

SARAH: "If it had been anyone else-- anyone else, Sarah, I would've been there for you." Maria adored Sarah growing up. But then their parents tried to pit them against each other. Maria refuses to compete with Sarah because she can't understand the reason to. Maria doesn't want to be better than her. But she also refuses to be treated as worse. The sisters have been distant most of their lives. Maria is devastated when she learns Sarah is pregnant with Kenneth's baby. She's much more hurt by Sarah's actions than Kenneth's, because it feels like a direct and purposeful attack. It would take a lot for Maria to consider forgiving her and being in her life.
