Batangas Lakelands: Thrilling Adventure Getaway to the South
A safe and secure atmosphere is offered by #BatangasLakelands, an outdoor adventure, sports, leisure, and entertainment park. #themepark #travel #getaway #nextfeatureph
We all need a brief getaway from the stress and strain in our lives. It’s fortunate that an adventure is only 60 minutes away from Manila. Quick beach vacations have traditionally been associated with the land of “ala eh.” But Batangas Lakelands changed my perception that this place is more than just beaches, kapeng barako, and lomi. Because of the province’s immense size, it is frequently…

Returned, Enjoying Life
Chapter 5 – Diving in Mabini
We just got back from a 5-day vacation to Mabini, Batangas, to get away, do a little diving, relax. Now before you get on my case about “getting away” when we’re already in paradise, there are some things that don’t change, regardless of where home is. Mundane things like paying bills, running errands, cleanup and repair around the house, etc., take up much of our time. No, we’re not shoveling snow like everyone in California, but we’re not sitting by the pool sipping Pina Coladas all the time, either.
Anyway, before I get to Mabini, a couple random topics.
(Sorta) Strange Fruit of the Day
It’s been a while since I’ve had a new fruit to write about! Georgia had heard about these but never tasted them – it’s a variety of coconut called the “Macapuno”. It’s smaller than a regular coconut, and considered special because it’s mostly filled with soft meat and very little liquid. In Viet Nam these cost up to 10x the price of a regular coconut. She found one in Mahogany Market (a super-sized farmer’s market in Tagaytay) and we hacked it open to give it a try.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good? Well, meh, actually. As you can see it did have an abundance of soft coconut meat, and instead of water it had coconut Jello. But not a lot of flavor to me, very little coconut taste and not very sweet. We’ve got a lot of the meat, so maybe it’ll be better if mixed with some sugar or put to some other baking use.
Halo Halo
Halo Halo (Tagalog meaning “mix-mix” in English) is the ubiquitous Filipino dessert. Every first-time visitor to the Philippines is required by law to try it. I’ve done my duty and to me it’s OK but nothing I’d go too far to seek out. Others, Filipinos and foreigners alike, love it. It’s made with shave ice, sugar (or other) syrup, evaporated milk, chunks of candied fruits and coconut (nata de coconut), all layered in a tall glass, and usually topped with a scoop of purple ube (taro) ice cream. You’re supposed to mix it all up before you start eating (thus the mix-mix). Ube, BTW, is the ubiquitous ingredient in Filipino desserts. Pies, cakes, ice cream, you name it, you see that bright purple color. Getting back to the Halo Halo, it’s pretty sweet, colorful, lots of different textures.
And according to Georgia it’s a perfect breakfast food…

Mabini
Sorry to leave you waiting. Last week we drove to the Mabini peninsula, about 2-hours south of home. The area is also commonly known as Anilao (the name of the town at the top of the peninsula) and is recognized as one of the prime diving destinations in the Philippines. Although it has beautiful coral reefs and a few wrecks, it’s most famous for “muck” diving, which isn't really "mucky" but involves searching for and photographing little critters like nudibranchs or “nudies”.
We checked in for a 5-night stay at a dive resort, that per TripAdvisor was the #1 overall hotel and dive resort in Mabini. I’ve found that I can usually trust TripAdvisor ratings. Usually. This was the exception. The term “Resort” should have been left out the description, while “Dive” was competely appropriate. We’re not hard-core divers so we were looking to do a couple dives, explore the area, and spend plenty of time relaxing around the resort. We expected a nice resort, nice pool and grounds, excellent service. Not even close. After the second night we checked out and went looking at other resorts (there are 80+ on the peninsula), and found one just down the road that fit the bill nicely, an excellent French-owned resort named La Chevrerie, and for those who speak French, yes they do have pet goats.
Lovely pool and grounds, right on the ocean

Not bad at all, just what we were looking for We made a couple dives as we’d planned, ate a lot, got massages, ate more, relaxed by the pool, and of course, ate again.
The first area we dove was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever experienced, a reef with hard corals, colorful crinoids, lots of soft corals, and plentiful fish. Here are a few shots from the dive.
Gotta have a clown fish or two!

Up next was “muck” diving. Georgia had experienced an equipment malfunction on the first dive, nothing really serious - a buoyancy compensator with a leaky inlet valve. The BC slowly but constantly inflated, making it impossible for her to control her buoyancy. With no spare on the boat and being tired from fighting the BC, she opted out of the muck dive.
The divemaster knew there would be a small current so he planned a “drift dive”, where you just let the current push you along as you look at things, and hope that the boat follows you. This plan started out well, but soon we found ourselves on an express train, a very strong current pushing us out to sea and into deeper water. The divemaster signaled that we should turn and get out of there. I swam as hard as I could for a while, but soon tired and found that I was starting to move backwards again. I just grabbed a rock and hung on, catching my breath, hoping that the DM had a plan to get us out of there. He apparently knew that if we climbed the ridge we were holding onto and got out of the channel we’d be OK. So, after a few minutes resting I pulled myself up, rock to rock to rock. Luckily he was right, and soon we were in pretty calm water and continued a nice dive. Many “nudies”! Divers love them because they stay still while you take pictures! BTW, for this trip I’d upgraded my equipment with the addition of a good dive light on a frame that also holds my camera. Amazing what a good light does for the colors!
A sampling of "nudies" for you

Surprising loved ones in the new normal
#PHnews: Surprising loved ones in the new normal
MANILA – The doorbell rings and you’re greeted by a delivery person who tells you that “someone” ordered food for you. But instead of handing you the delivery, she tells you that you need to pick it up from the car’s trunk.
You’re suspicious, but agree to do so. She leads you to her car and when she opens the trunk—surprise! It’s decorated with nearly a dozen balloons, lights, and a streamer that says “I miss you!” You later realize that it’s from your boyfriend who’s currently abroad working to save enough for your future together.
This is what goes on in the “car trunk surprise” business that’s making rounds on social media as a new way to surprise loved ones in the new normal that currently restricts travel and bans large gatherings due to threat of Covid-19 pandemic. It’s also a side hustle which has helped displaced cruise-line worker Babe Ruth Tolentino, 30, earn extra cash after major cruise operators suspended their sailings.
“Nag-decide ako na mag-start ng business na puwede sa’kin. Ngayong pandemic, mahirap magwork ngayon kung saan-saan. Meron naman kaming car, so ‘yun na lang yung naisip ko (I decided to start business that I can handle. Now that we have pandemic, it’s difficult to go around to work. We have car, so I came out with this idea) instead of just delivering food or other items,” Tolentino told the Philippine News Agency.
Tolentino said she and her sisters lost their jobs because of the pandemic so she thought of making use of their cars to delivery items to make profit.
“Sabay-sabay kami nawalan ng work. Ayun nga, may mga kotse then wala naman kaming mahanap na work, ‘yun na lang (We lost our jobs at the same time. We had cars but we couldn’t find work, so that’s what we thought of),” she added.
(Clockwise) Aira Aranas, Ella Aranas and Babe Ruth Tolentino, the brains behind "Mi Amor Car Trunk Surprise", are all smiles as they join car trunk surprise recipient Mima for a photo. (Contributed photo)
Since her sisters were crafty, she decided to combine their artistic talents and her social skills to put up a business that eventually became known as “Mi Amor Car Trunk Surprise”. Mi Amor, which in Spanish means “my love” is the perfect tagline considering they offer surprise packages meant to be delivered to loved ones.
“Yung mga sisters ko, sila yung may knowledge sa mga decorations so parang in-adopt ko nalang din ‘yun para in one plan na ganun, sama-sama kami. Sila yung nagde-decorate, ako lang yung nag-a-approve ng mga bookings (My sisters, they’re the ones with knowledge in decorations so I adopted that so that we have this joint plan we can work on together. They make the decorations, I approve the bookings),” she said.
The car trunk surprise caters to different occasions -- birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, bridal showers, or even a random day you decided you want to win back your ex-lover.
Tolentino said that preparing a car trunk surprise would usually take two to three days, depending on the theme of the client’s preference. They would have to print customized streamers, photos of the recipient to put on a clothesline, and a letter.
Buying the flowers and cake and other food would have to be done on the day of the delivery to guarantee freshness. Setting up the car trunk surprise would only take around an hour, she said.
But the most challenging part is looking for the recipient’s address, she said: “lalo na kung yung bahay nasa liblib (especially if the house is in a remote place).”

Most accommodating
Although there is a bunch of other car trunk surprise businesses around, Tolentino considers theirs the most accommodating when it comes to customers’ requests. It also helps that it’s among the most affordable car trunk services around.
“What I can say is affordable siya (It’s affordable). Sa reviews, sinasabi nila mas madali kaming kausap ganun (In reviews, people say we’re easy to talk to),” she said.
The cheapest car trunk surprise package, Package A costs PHP1,499 inclusive of a theme of your choice, music to be played when the trunk is opened, balloons, five to 10 photos to be hung up, coated mallows, a special message card.
Package B, which costs PHP1,999, offers the same inclusions as Package A but with a box of banana cupcakes and a plush toy. Package C, which costs PHP2,499, also offers the same inclusions but with a choice of either two boxes of banana cupcakes or brownies, a small expensive toy, and a flower bouquet.
On top of the package is a delivery fee which will be computed based on distance, but clients who live within Biñán, Laguna don’t have to pay a single centavo since it’s where Tolentino and her sisters currently live.
To date, Mi Amor Car Trunk Surprise has surprised recipients from all over Region 4-A or Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon).
She said that her experience as a cruise line worker has trained her to be customer service driven such that she always makes it a point that her clients are given their money’s worth.
“Before kami nag-start, nag-observe din naman ako. I tried to inquire sa mga ganyan, then sometimes ay ‘hindi po puwede ma’am, may ganito, ganyan’ sabi ko baka puwede po medyo mababa yung price, ‘hindi rin po.’ Hindi accommodating masyado ‘to. I said iibahin ko siya sa way ko (Before we started with our business, I observed how others did it. I tried to inquire with other shops, then sometimes they’d say, ‘we can’t do that, ma’am because of this and that’ and I’d ask, maybe we can get a lower price, they’d say, ‘we can’t do that.’ They’re not that accommodating. So I said, I’ll take a different approach),” she said.
Tolentino’s quest to be more accommodating eventually paid off as clients have been leaving rave reviews on their official Facebook Page.
Three months after they launched their car trunk surprise business, Tolentino and her sisters opened a party supplies kiosk to cater to those who also wanted to have mini parties in their homes.

Tug at heartstrings
This Valentine’s Day, she said many potential clients have started inquiring their services. But she said she can only accept as much as three clients per day.
“Feb. 14 is para dito lang sa Biñan kasi super busy ko po. Hindi ko rin sila maipagda-drive kasi yung store namin is tatlo, pupuntahan ko every hour, tse-check ko kung ano na status so magiging busy din ako. Tatlo lang kukunin namin (We will only cater to those living within Biñan on Feb. 14 because I’d be super busy that day. I won’t be able to drive because we have three stores which I visit every hour to check. So we can only book about three clients),” she said.
For Tolentino, the best part about their business is getting to witness the happy look on recipients faces the very moment they receive the surprise.
“Iba yung feeling. Minsan nga naiiyak din kami lalo na kapag mga parents yung sinu-surprise ganun. Nakakadala yung emotions (It feels different. Sometimes we also feel like crying when clients surprise their parents. We get carried away with emotions),” she said.
She said most of their clients are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) or siblings who want to surprise their elderly parents.
“Kasi nga hindi na nakauwi. Mostly yung mga nagpapa-surprise 60th birthday, 18th ganun. Mga hindi na nakapag-party sa bahay (It’s because they can’t come home. Most of those who avail of our services are those who want a surprise for 60th birthdays or 18th birthdays. Those who can’t throw parties in their homes),” she said.
Until now, Tolentino says that she and her siblings find time to surprise their own parents given their knack for pulling off surprises.
“Mahirap nga lang sila isurprise kasi siyempre magkakasama kami sa bahay. Ngayong pandemic triny naming i-surprise sa resort (It’s difficult to pull off a surprise because we live in the same house. But this pandemic, we tried surprising them by taking them to a resort),” she added.
When cruise lines resume operations, Tolentino plans to get her job back and let her sisters manage their party supplies business.
“Yung sa car trunk, ‘yun ang hindi ko pa sure kung paano ko siya gagawin. Marunong din naman mag-drive yung mom ko so baka ituloy pa rin nila (As for the car trunk business, that’s what I’m not quite sure about doing. My mom knows how to drive, so they might keep doing it),” she said. (PNA)

Air conditioning can be utilized in both domestic and business environments. This procedure is most commonly used to attain a more comfy interior environment, typically for humans and other animals; nevertheless, air conditioning is likewise used to cool and dehumidify rooms filled with heat-producing electronic devices, such as computer servers, power amplifiers, and to display and save some delicate products, such as artwork. Ac system typically utilize a fan to distribute the conditioned air to an occupied area such as a structure or a vehicle to improve thermal convenience and indoor air quality. Electric refrigerant-based Air Conditioning systems vary from small systems that can cool a little bed room, which can be brought by a single grownup, to enormous units set up on the roofing system of workplace towers that can cool a whole building. The cooling is typically attained through a refrigeration cycle, however in some cases evaporation or free cooling is utilized. Air-conditioning is the procedure utilized to develop and keep particular temperature, relative humidity and air purity conditions in indoor areas. This process is typically applied to maintain a level of individual comfort. It's also utilized in industrial applications to guarantee the correct operation of equipment or machinery that needs to operate in specific environmental conditions or additionally to be able to perform particular industrial procedures, such as welding, which produce significant quantities of heat that require to be gotten rid of in some manner. An air-conditioning system should work regardless of outdoors climatic conditions and includes control over 4 basic variables: air temperature, humidity, movement, and quality. Air conditioning is no longer considered the high-end that it as soon as was, and there is now an increasing need for applications ranging through domestic, industrial, commercial, and transportation and for specialized setups such as healthcare facilities, research facilities, information centers, and tidy rooms. The engineering systems in modern-day buildings and installations make a significant contribution to the total structure efficiency in terms of energy usage. Systems require to be significantly advanced in their design, installation, operation, control, and maintenance at a time when there is increasing pressure for greater energy effectiveness. How A/C Work Air conditioning system utilize refrigeration to chill indoor air, benefiting from a remarkable physical law: When a liquid converts to a gas (in a procedure called phase conversion), it takes in heat. Air conditioners exploit this function of stage conversion by forcing special chemical compounds to vaporize and condense over and over once again in a closed system of coils. The compounds included are refrigerants that have properties allowing them to alter at reasonably low temperature levels. Air conditioning system likewise include fans that move warm interior air over these cold, refrigerant-filled coils. In fact, central air conditioners have a whole system of ducts developed to funnel air to and from these serpentine, air-chilling coils. When hot air flows over the cold, low-pressure evaporator coils, the refrigerant inside absorbs heat as it alters from a liquid to a gaseous state. To keep one's cool effectively, the air conditioner needs to transform the refrigerant gas back to a liquid once again. To do that, a compressor puts the gas under high pressure, a procedure that produces undesirable heat. All the additional heat developed by compressing the gas is then left to the outdoors with the help of the 2nd set of coils called condenser coils, and a second fan. As the gas cools, it alters back to a liquid, and the procedure begins all over again. Think about it as a limitless, sophisticated cycle: liquid refrigerant, stage conversion to a gas/ heat absorption, compression and stage shift back to a liquid once again. It's simple to see that there are 2 unique things going on in an a/c unit. Refrigerant is cooling the indoor air, and the resulting gas is being continually compressed and cooled for conversion back to a liquid once again. On the next page, we'll look at how the different parts of an air conditioning unit work to make all that possible. Various Kinds Of Aic Conditioners: Portable Or Mobile Air Conditioners Perhaps the most familiar a/c unit to many consumers, these units do not need special installing however do include a versatile air pipe which is routed through a window or hole in the wall. Usually, the diameter of the air pipe has to do with 5 ″ and the pipelines have to do with 2-- 3 m long. The ac system discharges hot through this pipe when in use. Due to the fact that the compressor lies inside the unit instead of when it comes to split systems, in an external component, the mobile monoblock air conditioning system have the disadvantage of being quite noisy and minimal in capacity. On the other hand, they do not need setup and are nowadays fairly inexpensive to buy. Although there are numerous mobile a/c on the market, the huge bulk are small units either 9000 or 12000 btu, we only offer mobile systems larger than 10000 btu, just due to the fact that for the large bulk of applications 9000 btu designs are simply too little. Floor Mounted Air Conditioners Floor installed monoblock air conditioning system are set up against the wall in the same way a storage heating system is and they are common of a similar appearance and size to storage heating systems. These kinds of ac system normally have a heat pump facility, therefore providing really cost-effective heating in colder months. These a/c unit normally have 2 air pipes which lead straight from the rear of the unit, through the wall, where completions are generally capped with small louvers Wall Mounted Air Conditioners Some times called high wall air conditioners, wall installed monoblock air conditioning is a neat service to older structures where preparation does not permit the setup of an external condenser system. The wall-mounted monoblock air conditioning system connects high up on the wall and 2 air pipes are routed from the back directly through the wall. The downside of these air conditioning unit is that they are slightly bigger thorough compared to the split wall-mounted system as the condenser is consisted of inside the wall mount unit. They typically feature a heat pump so that air can be heated in winter season in addition to cooled in summertime. Spot Coolers Area cooling can be offered by these big mobile monoblock air conditioning system. They are greatly constructed, powerful and designed to be wheeled to ships, boats, and airplane to offer momentary cooling to the internal air. Spot coolers can also be utilized to provide cool air to industrial procedures. Unlike little portable ac system, spot coolers are designed to be found in the warm outside air and to provide cool air into areas that they themselves do not inhabit. Many have the capability to deliver cold air via a number of ducts to exactly where the air is needed. The snout pipes that are typically fitted to the front of these units are stiff however adjustable, making it possible for the flow of cold air to be directed to a predetermined spot. Window Air Conditioners Window air conditioners or window rattlers as they are referred to by the trade used to be the most extensive configuration of the ac system. They are almost standard in houses, homes, offices and cabins in Mediterranean nations and the Middle East. The fundamental ones can just chill the air, the more expensive have a heatpump mode and remote control. The main drawbacks of window air-conditioners are increased sound and necessity of mounting into the window opening or more usually through a narrow wall. On the plus side, they are fairly priced and simple to fit. Window ac system are in some cases referred to as 'thro the wall air conditioners', although they typically can not be installed in a wall any thicker than 9 ″ due to the fact that then the extra depth of wall impinges and blocks the air flow from the side vents of the units on the outside. Numerous of our consumers discover it more affordable long-lasting to run and replace window a/c, to set up and keep split systems. An air conditioner can alter the temperature, humidity or general quality of the air. More specifically, an air conditioner makes your house cooler, by drawing heat out of the house and moving that heat to the outdoors, then replacing the air inside your house with cooler air. Unlike with air conditioners, which work best when you keep the doors and windows closed, air coolers need to be put in an excellent air flow near an open window (where dry fresh air comes in) and with an open door (for wet exhaust air to flow out). That makes good sense if you consider it: the water you're contributing to the air flow is "soaking" up heat from the room, and if you continuously expel wet air while permitting dry air to enter in its place, you're continually eliminating heat. Air coolers that work by direct evaporation (adding water) can also be used as humidifiers though, because case, the doors and windows do need to be kept closed to permit the humidity to increase.

Central air conditioners have an entire system of ducts created to funnel air to and from these serpentine, air-chilling coils. When hot air flows over the cold, low-pressure evaporator coils, the refrigerant inside soaks up heat as it changes from a liquid to a gaseous state. To keep cooling efficiently, the air conditioning system needs to transform the refrigerant gas back to a liquid again. To do that, a compressor puts the gas under high pressure, a procedure that develops undesirable heat. All the extra heat produced by compressing the gas is then left to the outdoors with the help of the 2nd set of coils called condenser coils, and a 2nd fan. As the gas cools, it alters back to a liquid, and the procedure begins all over again. Think about it as an unlimited, elegant cycle: liquid refrigerant, stage conversion to a gas/ heat absorption, compression and stage shift back to a liquid again. It's easy to see that there are 2 unique things going on in an a/c. Refrigerant is chilling the indoor air, and the resulting gas is being continuously compressed and cooled for conversion back to a liquid once again. On the next page, we'll take a look at how the different parts of an air conditioner work to make all that possible. Various Types Of Aic Conditioners: Portable Or Mobile Air Conditioners Possibly the most familiar air conditioning unit to many consumers, these units do not need unique installing but do come with a flexible air pipe which is routed through a window or hole in the wall. Normally, the diameter of the air pipe has to do with 5 ″ and the pipelines are about 2-- 3 m long. The air conditioning unit discharges hot through this pipeline when in use. Because the compressor lies inside the unit rather than when it comes to split systems, in an external element, the mobile monoblock air conditioning system have the disadvantage of being quite loud and limited in capacity. On the other hand, they do not need installation and are nowadays relatively low-cost to purchase. Although there are numerous mobile air conditioning unit on the market, the large bulk are little systems either 9000 or 12000 btu, we just sell mobile units larger than 10000 btu, merely since for the huge majority of applications 9000 btu models are just too little. Floor Mounted Air Conditioners Floor installed monoblock air conditioning system are set up against the wall in the same way a storage heating system is and they are common of a comparable look and size to storage heating systems. These types of a/c normally have a heat pump center, thus supplying really affordable heating in colder months. These air conditioning unit generally have 2 air pipes which lead directly from the back of the unit, through the wall, where the ends are typically topped with small louvers Wall Mounted Air Conditioners Long times called high wall a/c unit, wall mounted monoblock air conditioning is a cool service to older structures where planning does not permit the installation of an external condenser system. The wall-mounted monoblock a/c connects high up on the wall and 2 air pipes are routed from the back directly through the wall. The disadvantage of these ac system is that they are a little bigger in-depth compared to the split wall-mounted system as the condenser is consisted of inside the wall install system. They typically include a heatpump so that air can be warmed in winter in addition to cooled in summer. Spot Coolers Area cooling can be offered by these big mobile monoblock air conditioners. They are heavily constructed, effective and created to be wheeled to ships, boats, and airplane to offer momentary cooling to the internal air. Spot coolers can likewise be used to offer cool air to industrial procedures. Unlike little portable air conditioning system, spot coolers are created to be found in the warm outside air and to offer cool air into locations that they themselves do not inhabit. The majority of have the capability to provide cold air through a variety of ducts to precisely where the air is needed. The snout pipes that are generally fitted to the front of these systems are rigid but adjustable, making it possible for the circulation of cold air to be directed to a pre-programmed spot. Window Air Conditioners Window ac system or window rattlers as they are described by the trade used to be the most extensive configuration of the air conditioners. They are practically standard in homes, houses, offices and cabins in Mediterranean nations and the Middle East. The basic ones can just chill the air, the more pricey have a heat pump mode and push-button control. The main disadvantages of window air-conditioners are increased noise and necessity of mounting into the window opening or more usually through a narrow wall. On the plus side, they are fairly priced and easy to fit. Window ac system are sometimes referred to as 'thro the wall air conditioning unit', although they typically can not be installed in a wall any thicker than 9 ″ due to the fact that then the additional depth of wall impinges and blocks the airflow from the side vents of the units on the outside. Several of our customers find it more affordable long-term to run and replace window a/c unit, to install and preserve split systems. An a/c can change the temperature, humidity or basic quality of the air. More particularly, an air conditioning unit makes your home cooler, by drawing heat out of the house and transferring that heat to the outdoors, then replacing the air inside your home with cooler air. Unlike with air conditioning unit, which work best when you keep the doors and windows closed, air coolers require to be put in a great air flow near an open window (where dry fresh air can be found in) and with an open door (for moist exhaust air to flow out). That makes good sense if you consider it: the water you're adding to the air flow is "soaking" up heat from the space, and if you constantly expel damp air while permitting dry air to enter in its location, you're continuously eliminating heat. Air coolers that work by direct evaporation (including water) can also be utilized as humidifiers however, in that case, the doors and windows do need to be kept closed to allow the humidity to increase.

Calatagan Gaming!
Missed these peeps. Mikey and Pau were my elem and highschool classmates. Kian is Mike's girlfriend.
The place. Uhm, what can I say?!? It's good! Or maybe we were blessed to be on the perfect spot. Beach front under the tree. The people were all there taking selfies. Nakakaumay hahaha guess I was being a killjoy tita here. Pero grabe naman, why not enjoy the scene, the beach, the serene, the sunset! And some people offer you drinks even when you were just passing by. Parang fiesta! And we were about thousands siguro. The place is well-regulated and organized. Kudos people!
I love how spontaneous this trip was. Last minute. Fluid. Road trip. Camping. Great food. Super great! It's been a long time since I have a good, deep talk. Adulting is hitting us, bigtime! Reminiscing on how epic our high school was - from our failed grades in geometry to extended trigonometry class. Silly crushes and kilig moments. Our friends and how they were before and what happened now. They open up about failed relationship and finally I open up about my dirty laundry - the skeletons in my closet. Oh it feels liberating haha! Finally. I was heard. My version of the story is different from what they know. It's funny, hearing that story 😂.
Did I not say I got really drunk this entire trip? We started drinking once we set up and settle our camp which is 11:30am until four am the next day, drinking beer and rum and wine. Plus our campmate were an all-queer-slash-gay group and they were hitting on Mikey hahaha! Perks was they bought us more beer cuz we ran out after midnight. Yeah, good looks pay off! And who wouldn't remember John Terence Ibe? That frickin gay whose harassing everyone by this card game and how the party shouldn't be over by 3am because that's how he partied in manila blah blah and shits like that. I argued the hell out of him and guess what? Only Mikey calm him down. Again, good looks pay off! ✌️
The next morning we have to wake up really early cuz I have work. Yes, I'm kj like that. So to cure the hungover we went at the ever famous Leslie's Tagaytay and man, the bulalo is just sooo good! And the brewed coffee is to die for. The. Brewed. Coffee. Worth it kahit mejo pricey! 🤤
Sorry guys, I missed your last invite in Zambales. Bridesmaid duties! But I promise to be there next time cuz I missed you badly! Hopefully next time sumama na yung iba. Again, adulting won't make our schedules match. Hehe. I love yous!

Yey! I'm 31. Part 1.
Here comes the story and a whole lot of photo dumping. Part 1, I guess?
Almost two years in pandemic and these lockdown classifications, I celebrated my two of my birthdays unlike of how I usually do it. Although this year with a more lenient and light restrictions, yey! I celebrated it with a more sense of normalcy.
My birthday is actually last December 31. So this is kinda of a late post.
It was a spur invitation. Ang sabi ko lang sa friend ko, "Gusto kong mag Sambokojin". One thing lead to another and yes there was a plan made over a twitter space with the invitation extended to some other people na nakilala ko lang sa twitter. And instead of sambokojin we ended up to Vikings. No issue naman to me, what I wanted lang naman talaga is an overflowing of Sashimi.
Dec. 5, 2021:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Dinner went by smoothly lang. As expected we buried ourselves sa foods. By the time we were full na the night is still young so we ended up na magkayayaan to a KTV bar somewhere in QC. Kamias yata yun if I am not mistaken? The good thing is I brought car and asked a neighbor to drive for us so hindi issue ang driving. So Yey! ever since I got sick around April to June. Hindi na talaga ako nakakapag videoke, so imagine how "thirsty" am I to go on full singing.
To Beers, Sisig, at marami pang pulutan and of course walang humpay na kantahan.
Tumblr media
Here's a photo to show kung gaano ko namiss bumirit. HAHA
Tumblr media
So yey! I got to eat the food I want, to drink the booze that I want, and sing the songsssss I want. Pero before we cap of the night, over yosi I was being tease na at my age of 31 I am still restricted, tied up and you know the "Living with your parent" kind of adult. That I cant be invited spontaneously and be anywhere else. To prove them wrong and made a point, right there and then a new plan blossomed. Go to Baler. Go to ElYu. Go to a beach. And of course, a challenged me took it on and agreed.
Bad News no. 1: Baler and ElYu requires RT-PCR test for tourist. None of us have it. So instead, the plan to the north goes south to Batangas. We have to wake some of our friends to check on and contact a resort that we will be accommodated. Luckily, we got one. So yey again!
Bad news no. 2: My neighbor/Hired driver cannot due to prior commitment. I myself holds only a student license, one of us have but he has an expired license. While my other friend has an active license yet not comfortable to drive a MT vehicle. This was resolved easily with at least myself to drive and accompanied by a non pro license holder. And as my friend are not trusting my driving skill yet. My another friend who holds an expired license will be the designated driver. So yey!
At 3AM, from Kamias we go to our home in Cavite to pick up some things and started our Journey to Batangas! Yey!
Here's the clincher part. I volunteered to drive only up to at least before we enter the expressway. However. Things happened and we were mid the expressway I am still driving.I have no complain. I get to test my driving skill. Which I think is satisfactory except for few humps. But at least we are safe and no one go hurt.
At KM44. We stopped. Another friend asked for a stop over.
Tumblr media
Apparently, she is now having her panic attacks. So what can we do. We took a detour and tried to go to other place instead cutting our Batangas journey short.
Along the way we saw the signage to Enchanted Kingdom. We were able to get there. At 8AM we are now at EK's gate, but the park will open at 12NN. So there again. We are devising a new plan.
I told you I can be spontaneous.
And so there you go. The new plan was now to go home. Take a rest and whatever.
And so this marks the part 1 of my Birthday celebration? A good food. A good beer. A good song. A Good adventure. And of course Good times with my dearest friend!
To more this coming year fella! Love you!
xoxo

We went to Laiya Coco Grove Beach Resort in Batangas last April 2016. I was actually thinking to come back there again with my husband this summer. Unfortunately, they closed for redevelopment last July 2018 as per their Facebook page. Until now, there’s still no advice if when they will open again. Although the beach resort is not in operation as of the moment, I still decided to blog about it for memories’ sake.
We actually had a great time in that place. It was kind of a long trip though. We stayed there overnight and enjoyed their buffet. It’s actually the food that we enjoyed there the most.
HOW TO GET THERE FROM MANILA:
From Cubao, you are going to ride a bus to San Juan, Batangas.  Take the ALPS Bus. The fare costs more or less 200php per person.
From San Juan, right in front of the Municipal Hall, either you ride a Laiya or Hugom-bound jeepney, or a tricycle bound to Laiya. We chose to ride a tricycle and we spent 150php because it was really a long trip. The trike directly brought us to the entrance of Laiya Coco Grove. Riding a jeep is cheaper.
ROOM RATES: I already forgot the room rates but the photo below shows all the details of our booking.
Tumblr media
I booked for a couple cabin online which was ₱2, 164.50/night.  Here are the inclusions:
Air-conditioned rooms with own Toilet and Bath (Cabin Room Accommodation and SHARED bath)
Towels and toiletries
Managed buffet dinner, breakfast, and lunch upon check out
Free use of WiFi
Free use of the beach, swimming pool, and cabanas
Use of White Beach facility
Use of playground and volleyball area
Board games like Scrabble, chess, monopoly, etc.
TERMS AND POLICIES:
Tumblr media
BEACH: They have two beaches. The first one is in the area and the so-called “White Beach” is like a few blocks away. You can hardly enjoy swimming at their beach because it is stony. That is why the management suggests going to White Beach instead. They offer free van-ride to their guests so you don’t have to worry about traveling back and forth.
Laiya Coco Grove Beach
Laiya White Beach
POOL: They also have a swimming pool which is available until the evening. At some time during the day, it is closed for cleaning.
Laiya Coco Grove Swimming Pool
FOOD: We availed their lunch and dinner buffet so we don’t have to worry about what and where to eat. They served a variety of Filipino food and fruit juice. I can say that eating at their buffet was what we enjoyed the most. We just bought some food for the snack like the halo-halo and potato chips.
STAFFS: The staffs were accommodating. We were welcomed warmly and escorted to our room by the attendant. The van driver who brought us to White Beach and fetched as after was nice and friendly, We were accommodated accordingly. 🙂
OTHER OPTIONS: Staying in Laiya Coco Grove Beach Resort was really an awesome experience. We would always want to go back. It actually saddened me when I found out that they closed for redevelopment. On the other hand, it led me to search for other beach resorts in Laiya. So if you are planning to spend your summer in Laiya, Batangas here are some suggestions for you.
Acuatico Beach Resort & Hotel
Sabangan Beach Resort
Virgin Beach Resort
Blue Coral Beach Resort
Estrellas de Mendoza Playa Resort
Palm Beach Resort
Acuaverde Beach Resort
Kabayan Beach Resort
Laiya White Cove Beach Resort
Buracai de Laiya Hotel and Resort
Thanks for reading! If you have other suggested beach resorts in Laiya, Batangas, feel free to comment below. ❤

Philippines May 2019
Days 4/5/6/7 – Manila to Kawayan Cove to Puerto Galera
We’ve been experiencing pretty sketchy internet so I’ve been building up a few days worth of writing. We’ve been promised that it will get better, when it does you’ll be reading this!
Saturday evening (of day 3) we were visited in Manila by our friends Noel and Michelle Tanada (more on them later), and did some catching up over a few too many drinks until the wee hours. We didn’t quite get the early start on our drive to Kawayan Cove we’d intended, but managed to crawl out of bed and get going by late morning. Once there we checked into our AirBnB condo then headed right over to take a look at the house. Good progress but it’s entering the phase where you have to look a bit harder to see it – when you go from no walls to walls it’s obvious and dramatic, but now we’re starting into the finishing work. The major difference is the roof – we have the corrugated aluminum panels up with the insulation underneath. Over here, the aluminum takes the place of roofing felt – it’s the real waterproofing component. The concrete shingles will be installed over that, possibly in the next week. In addition to the roof, the plumbing and electrical are both roughed in.
Tumblr media
I’ve often said that construction over here is all “steel and concrete” but there is actually some wood in our home. The soffits (under the roof eaves) and ceiling of the open entry patio will be mahogany tongue and groove. I was expecting that but hadn’t thought about the framing holding it up which it turns out is also mahogany. I guess it’s probably less expensive over here than other woods, plus it’s very resistant to the heat and humidity.
Tumblr media
Monday was national election day in the Philippines. A lot of local elections plus half the Senate was up for grabs. One thing they do here is ban all alcohol sales the day before and day of an election (don’t worry about us, we’d stocked up before the ban took effect). This brings up an interesting question – if we had this in the US, would we have elected Trump if we were all sober?
Tumblr media
While we weren’t looking, Habagat happened. Habagat is the annual shifting of the trade winds, an actual 180 degree shift from offshore to onshore winds (here on the west coast at least) that happens literally overnight. Habagat portends the coming of the rainy season in the Philippines and usually begins in the May-June timeframe, lasting until November-December. The effect at Kawayan Cove is that the ocean swell is now coming into the cove, bringing actual waves to the beach. Not enough for surfing, the shore break is about 1 foot high at best, but it’s not the placid cove it is during Amihan which is the other part of the year with its gentler east-to-west winds. The undesirable effect is that these winds blow more trash from the ocean into the cove. The staff here does a good job keeping our beach clean, but while I was snorkeling in the cove I collected about 20 pounds of plastic bags, cups, wrappers, and one paint can from the water, just making a small dent in the overall amount. The picture below is of an adjacent beach without the Kawayan Cove staff to clean it up. Refer to previous rants about plastics in the ocean…
Tumblr media
Speaking of junk in the ocean, our previously mentioned friends Noel and Michelle drove down to visit us on Monday at Kawayan Cove. Our condo was 2-bedroom so they had a place to spend the night. Though we’ve known them for a long time we’ve just learned about their involvement with an ocean conservation group (www.coralmovement.org) of which Michelle has become president. The group’s primary efforts are to restore coral reefs with innovative re-planting methods which seem to be very effective. Reef restoration is just one aspect of the whole ocean conservation thing, equally important are education, shoreline cleanup and rehabilitation, control of pollution and waste, as well as many others. We spent a lot of time talking about their group’s efforts, leaving us with an option to join them, as it fits well with our intentions to get involved with conservation work over here.
Tuesday (day 6) is for going to a new island, for both Georgia and me. Mindoro is the pretty large island directly south of Luzon (where Manila and Kawayan Cove are located). Close enough to be reached by ferry, we decided to take our first “road trip” and drive to Batangas City where we could load the car onto a RORO (a Philippines auto ferry, ‘RORO’ is slang for “Roll On, Roll Off”) and sail to the port of Puerto Galera, Mindoro.
Tumblr media
We decided to take the 3:00 ferry and got to Batangas port by 1:00 as we were advised get there a couple hours early. We went through various inspections of car and contents and were then instructed to drive to “line 15” to wait for the ferry. We found the appropriate line and waited, and waited… until a little after 3:00 we asked an official-looking type who was walking around when the ferry would actually leave. 6:00 he said! We never got any explanation at all about what happened to the 3:00 ferry. Was it full? Did it get cancelled? Did the boat sink? We’ll never know. Anyway we finally loaded onto the ferry about 5:30 and it set sail for the 2-hour voyage a little after 6. After a quick off-loading process we reached our hotel around 8:30, pretty starving as we’d only had an early lunch while on the road. Couldn’t see much of the place as it was dark but all we really wanted to see was the restaurant which thankfully was still open.
Tumblr media
Today we finally saw where we’re staying, a very nice place right on the water in a quiet mangrove-lined inlet between Puerto Galera and Sabang. Not many impressive beaches in this part of Mindoro, which is mostly known for it’s world-class scuba diving. What beaches they have are lined with dive shops and bars, and are said host a pretty active party scene. Those rowdy scuba divers, what can you do… join them maybe? This afternoon we met with Ms. Rose, the PADI dive instructor here at the resort, who will be our teacher for the next few days, as we (hopefully) will earn at least the “Scuba Diver” certification and possibly have time for the next level up, “Open Water Diver”. Stay tuned!

The Romblon Signage (Photo by Makoi Matutes)
The Island of Romblon is part of the mini archipelagic province of same name, Romblon, in spite of its smaller size compared to its gigantic island neighbors, Tablas and Sibuyan, still has many adventures and experiences to offer to its visitors. Famed for its rich marble supply, the quarry industry has provided livelihood to the locals and littered the main alleyways with marble souvenirs. The small island is also dotted with beautiful resorts at its fringe, offering views of its next door islands. Romblon Island excites me with its off-beat yet serene vibes, would be happy to take the long road to this another paradise island in the Philippines.
with Co-travellers, Francis, Mel and Makoi
Taking the night ferry from Batangas Pier, we nonchalantly perched on one of the cold seats in the passenger-packed departure area while waiting for the boarding announcement. Despite the late hour, the airconditioned chamber is buzzing alive with many TV monitors exhibiting different locals channels, passengers chitchatting, the in-house food stalls apparently awake with their catchy signage and children running around freely. There was a momentary delay, however, shortly, we found ourselves queued to board. passing through a platform, and then, laying our bags down meters away from us for canine sniffing before the actual embarkation.
Queued to board 2GO Vessel bound to Romblon
It is my very first time for a long haul transit via a large ship. We found our personal nooks in an airconditioned public cabin. The first few hours is a nuisance to my ears with the cacophony of passengers around. The ship has an open bar on its stern and we chose to lounge there prior the ship left the port. With few cans of beer, we enjoyed the first few hours of the voyage, and called it a night. We returned to a now more pleasant and quiet yet artic cabin, with the aircondition units at its full blast. The free linens did not help and our “malongs” were our effective protective barrier against the cold indoor draft.
Passengers lining up to disembark at Romblon Port
Enjoying light booze before we call it a night aboard 2Go
My eyes peeled when I heard the captain’s call through the paging system – we are prepared for docking. We hurried on deck, and from there, we can see the Romblon Island, with its main town area squeezed between the mountains chock-full of thick forests and deep blue sea. The atop the hills are decked with apparently equidistant windmills. In my mind, “sure there are tons and tons of marble supply there”. The ship already on its full stop, the platform lowered, and now, passengers started pouring on the dry dock.
At the gates of the sea port, we are welcomed with abundant drivers offering their tourist services. We already had a contact arranged, and we waited for him, while we have our first Romblon breakfast.
Soon as our driver arrived on his tricycle with a back-to-back side car, enough to fit the four of us. Our heavy backpacks are bound safely on the sidecar roof, and shortly we are to circumvent the Romblon Island.
Panoramic Shot of the cathedral on its tight thoroughfares
We passed by the St. Joseph Cathedral. I am amazed with its architectural features. The thick buttress and church, along with the detached bell tower is lined with thick bricks. The second tier of the bell tower features arch windows from adobe bricks with top exterior wall overlaid with modern concrete. The large dome perched high above and is prominent structure around the town area.
Working on a white-dust laden shop
Next destination are the factories where the intricately designed marble souvenir and items are quarried and painstakingly carved. We arrived on dusty workshop littered with fine white dust and plenty of WIPs – statues, trinkets and more.
A female staff fine sanding a dragon figurine
Elephant shaped marble lined up
Different colored heart shaped paper weights
Starfish shaped paper weights
We have met a marble shop owner and sculptor, Sir Wilky Tiologo. We are happy that he had taken his valuable time to show us around his workshop and sample works. I also saw one of his staff, currently wet polishing a dragon designed figurine sculpted from a brown-colored marble. With the fine details they are able to create from an incredibly solid material, I am more than amazed with their craftsmanship – that patience and persistence to create such piece of art. Another feature of the roadside workshop is their own personal treehouse – best spot to rest after a whole day’s toil. A good tip too, it is best to purchase your souvenir here, prices are lower compared from the town center, plus, you are able to help the directly the producers. I bough leaf designed soap dish for a our kitchen sink. We bade goodbye to Sir Wilky afterwards.
The provincial road now winds through deep the mountainous core of the island. Cool wind swept our faces when we passed through a forested area. The sun has already poised itself high and the summer heat already creeping. We passed by more roadside quarry sites and spotted more on view, creating huge bald spots against the mountain slopes, exposing light brown to almost white craggy walls of marble. We stopped at one and took pictures with the barren side.
An open quarry site beside the road
Sacks of low quality marble bits sold at a steal price
We saw another marble processing center and it features a gigantic rock cutter, that has, approximately, 15 feet diameter of solid metal disk that creates inches thick sheets of marble. They are used mostly with table counter tops and other home and garden decors. We halted our drive since we want to witness the actual rock cutting. The machine released earsplitting noise as the disk starts to inch through the rock. Beneath the machine steady stream of milky white fluid, water mixed with fine white dust,  flows through the channels away from the workshop area. It was my first time to experience such process.
Noontime in Sablyan Point with Sibuyan Island at the back
I felt the thirst and we hurried to find a local store in search for bottled soda. We found one on the next community. We continued to drive southwards and, shortly, we saw the sea and the neighboring Sibuyan Island with the treacherous Mt. Guiting Guiting brimming through the horizon. Soon when we reached the Sablayan Point, we hurried to the sea bringing our cameras. We are welcomed with turquoise colored waters splashing through rocky coast on the left side, and crashing on the brown pebbly shore on the right. Beside the shore, there are huts that offers cold Halo Halo. We ordered each and consumed while we enjoy the cooler ambiance.
Moving on the next destination is the Apunan Lighthouse. It is situated at the lower left flank of the island. The lighthouse structure is perched on top of rocky cliff with impressive views of the clear inviting waters below. We entered the lighthouse complex whilst there is a noisy party happening nearby. The sun is already blazing on its full strength and we hurried to find a shade. The administration building seems to be in ruins, however, a family was able to maintain, if not restore its integrity. The middle aged man with identifiable sunburnt skin welcomed us with a smile and required as to register in their logbook. After which, we hurried around within the complex. The sky turned almost completely cloudless and warm humid wind started to blow. From the viewdeck at the edge of the cliff, we are able to easily spot a huge Moral Eel foraging on the rocky portion of the beach. The sea in front of us blazed between shades of deep blue to light turquoise to crystal clear at the shallowest portions. We left the lighthouse complex with now gurgling tummies.

The Reggae Vibes would be our next destination to have our late lunch. We arrived on a huge hut structure with its facade adorned with attributable green, yellow and red cloth.
Hippy Facade of Reggae Vibes
Too sad the huts are fully booked
It is a beachfront resort with huts that millenials would love, designed with sleeping quarters at the attic and open designed living quarters below it. Upon stepping on its reception area, we are greeted with smiles and we hurriedly ordered our lunch – bowl meals. We waited outside under the shade of coconut trees, a patio just outside the reception building, perched on a raised platform and facing the sultry sea on full view. It took time to prepare but the rewarding view kept us entertained. We ended our hearty lunch with a huge bottle of almost frozen soda.
The next destination is about half an hour drive and we slog back to the tricycle and we sleepily traversed. We arrived at Tiamban Beach Resort, and excitedly ran to the shores after paying for entrance fees. There are many tourists here since of its proximity to Romblon town proper. We did not stayed long here because we are excited to see the famed Bonbon beach. After arriving finally on our last destination for the day, we excitedly alighted from our ride.
The iconic sandbar of Romblon’s Bonbon beach
Bonbon beach is one of the few public beaches I know, maintained by the government, and easily accessible from Romblon Islands town center – drive between 10-15 minutes approximately. Upon registration, you will be reminded by the resort staff of the regulations which goes around the principle of Clean As You Go.
During low tide, the sandbar extension of Bonbon beach extends reaching the nearby Bang-Og Island. It is best to marvel the sunset here while enjoying the clear waters of the public beach.  We spend most of the remaining daylight here frolicking around.
Spot Map of Romblon Island, and the spots we visited
We spent the night at El Krimphoff Resort (Contact Number +63 998 433 8937), located about 20 minutes away from the town proper. A two-storey villa fronting the rocky shore was our accommodation for the night. The following day, we left Romblon Island on a 3:00 PM Ferry via  Navios Lines bound back to Batangas Pier. Prior boarding, we visited to San Andres Fort, located on a hill offering commanding view the town proper. We bought essentials at the nearest store to the gate of the port. Momentarily, we are at the private cabin we reserved. With heavy heart, we waited for Captain’s call to disembark and take a long travel back to Luzon Mainland.

Romblon Island can be circumvented and explored within a day, but there are many spots and destinations that could take days just to visit all. Its smaller islands and islets its northern rim are just part of the many adventures you can experience with the province. Should you wish to visit Tablas and Sibuyan Island, there are daily public boats plying these routes, including Carabao Island. Romblon was the 80th province I visited in completing the goal to visit all 81 provinces of the Philippines.

ROMBLON ISLAND: travel guide The Island of Romblon is part of the mini archipelagic province of same name, Romblon, in spite of its smaller size compared to its gigantic island neighbors, Tablas and Sibuyan, still has many adventures and experiences to offer to its visitors.

Tough year for tourism: Exploring ways to restart, recover
#PHnews: Tough year for tourism: Exploring ways to restart, recover
MANILA – The year 2020 is unlike any other for the country's travel industry, which by yearend, often produce record-breaking figures on revenues and arrivals.
In January, the year started with Taal's eruption, forcing thousands of people to evacuate. At that time, it was the industry's biggest challenge as it affected hundreds of flights and compelled numerous tourism establishments in Calabarzon to suspend operations.
But the worst came the following weeks as the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) reached the Philippines and locally-transmitted cases surfaced.
On March 16, air travel was brought to a screeching halt where people had no choice but to stay home as the government placed Luzon under lockdown.
Michelle Taylan, president of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), said the crisis forced all of its members to temporarily close or scale down operations.
"Our member travel agencies have been forced to pivot to other businesses to tide them over. Airlines have suffered heavy losses. Hotels were used as quarantine facilities. Tourism was at a standstill," she said in an email to the Philippine News Agency.
Amid the uncertainties this year, Taylan said the PTAA looks forward to 2021 with "a lot of optimism".
"We will still stage our annual Travel Tour Expo and International Travel Trade Expo. They will be springboards as we assist in the revival of Philippine tourism," she shared.
"We will also hold talks with other stakeholders in the tourism industry and will come out with a united front in our pursuit to further open tourism in the country," she added.
From January to November 2020, the country's tourism receipts fell by 81 percent to PHP81.05 billion, a significant drop from PHP437.9 billion in the same period in 2019.
International arrivals also dropped by 82.4 percent to 1.3 million compared to the 7.4 million recorded from January to November in 2019.
But while the coronavirus pandemic has grounded most tourism activities, the sector continues to explore ways to restart and offset the crisis's impact on tourism.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) continued to engage with relevant agencies to craft health and safety protocols that could be used when travel gradually starts.
Since April, it has successfully organized a handful of online learning courses that aim to help local tourism players become more competitive, with new knowledge, technological advances, and ways to innovate and be able to cater to a new breed of travelers.
To adapt to the travel trends due to the pandemic, the Tourism Promotions Board also developed a strategic marketing program for the medium and long-term.
"The toughest challenge was the fact that we could not promote tourism destinations the way we used to simply because they were closed to tourists. Or that we could not even promote at all. This compelled us to creatively explore ways to keep the connection with our tourists, while at the same time, gradually assist our local government units (LGUs) and our stakeholders prepare for the new normal in travel," TPB chief Anthonette Velasco said.
'Domestic tourism'
Uncertain when the foreign market will come back, the DOT banked on domestic tourism to slowly revive the sector and capitalized on the low-hanging fruit within its borders -- the local travelers.
The DOT believed that by tapping into these short-haul markets through targeted marketing, the country can "bypass some of the considerable challenges" it faced following the pandemic.
It looked at introducing travel corridors or the so-called "travel bubble" to allow the reopening of Philippine destinations with zero coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases to foreign tourists from infection-free nations. By the second half of 2020, the DOT initiated talks with Australia, which at that time has touted a low to zero case count.
While this vision did not push through, a similar concept was applied domestically and piloted in El Nido, Palawan connecting resorts in the island to tourists from Metro Manila.
In June, the Philippines gradually reopened the world-class Boracay Island, initially to visitors within Aklan province, and eventually to other regions provided the traveler has been tested negative for Covid-19.
By the latter part of the year, several domestic destinations followed suit and started accepting visitors but with strict health and border control protocols, some with a test-before-travel requirement. Among these are Bohol, Batangas, Ilocos Region, Baguio, Siargao, and Palawan.
Last October, Bohol also hosted the hybrid Philippine Travel Exchange 2020, the first physical MICE event since the pandemic started. MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, an emerging niche market in the tourism industry before the health crisis.
Joel Pascual, president of the Philippine Association of Conventions, Exhibition Organizers & Suppliers Inc. (PACEOS), said 2020 was a "really terrible year" for all MICE stakeholders as all its planned events had to be postponed or canceled.
For most of the year, PACEOS lobbied for MICE to be separated from “mass gatherings” as the industry works in a controlled environment where there is clear accountability and where safety protocols are more effectively implemented.
"Towards the end of the year, some events have been approved on a national level but are still subject to the approval of the LGUs but there are still some confusions on implementation of such guidelines," he said.
Pascual said no events equates to zero revenue, which meant that MICE companies were merely trying to survive, trying to keep staff employed through the pandemic.
As the new year nears, Pascual hopes for more consultation between the government and the private sector while the pandemic is still a pervading issue.
"Our biggest hope is that we can build the confidence of government that the professional MICE sector is more than capable of adhering to safety protocols," he said.
'Chinese retirees'
Aside from the pandemic, the DOT this year also focused on introducing reforms at the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) following a public backlash on its current policy that allows foreigners as young as 35 years old to retire in the Philippines.
Senators questioned if the PRA, an attached agency of the DOT, can ensure that young Chinese retirees are not working nor engaged in the operations of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).
Based on PRA data, some 26,969 Chinese nationals have been allowed to retire in the Philippines, topping the list as of December 2019, followed by 13,912 Koreans; 5,951 Indians; 4,801 Taiwanese; and 3,950 Japanese.
There are a total of 14,987 active retirees or those who continue to keep the retirement visa as their status of stay in the Philippines with ages ranging from 34 to 49 years old. Of this number, more than 50 percent, or 8,130 of whom are Chinese nationals from mainland China, followed by the Koreans at 2,257 and Indians at 1,891.
Despite this calamitous year for the tourism industry, the Philippines carried on and has even bagged accolades that recognized the timeless beauty of its destinations.
The Philippines’ dive spots and the old walled city of Intramuros were hailed as this year's World's Leading Dive Destination and World's Leading Tourist Attraction, respectively, by the 2020 World Travel Awards (WTA).
This is the Philippines’ second time to win the world title for dive, besting eight different popular dive hubs, such as the Azores Islands, Bora Bora, French Polynesia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Maldives, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, it was Intramuros’s first time to win the World's Leading Tourist Attraction, beating 15 different attractions, such as the Acropolis of Greece, Burj Khalifa of Dubai, the Grand Canyon National Park of the US, Mount Kilimanjaro of Tanzania, and Taj Mahal of India. Albeit virtually, the Philippines remained on the world's radar.
'Recovery'
Earlier, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said international travel might not happen soon amid the existing travel restrictions of other countries, especially now that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 is spreading fast in the United Kingdom.
"Our (focus) is still domestic tourism. Domestic tourism is 10.8 percent in the 12.7 percent contribution of the tourism industry to the country's GDP that's why we will strengthen this," she told reporters on Dec. 28.
Physical distancing and health protocols had been the most associated words to the "new normal". And in the years beyond, this is likely to stay as safety becomes the traveler's paramount concern.
Puyat is optimistic that DOT's partnerships with public hospitals, such as the Philippine General Hospital and the Philippine Children's Medical Center, would help transcend the prohibitive barrier of testing requirements for travelers.
"Working hand in hand not only with our tourism stakeholders and LGU, but also with government health facilities ensures that success of safety protocols will strengthen our collective efforts to gradually and safely reopen domestic tourism," she said.
Basing on previous major viral epidemics, experts earlier said the average recovery time for visitor numbers to a destination was 19 months.
The worldwide economic impact of H1N1 was estimated at up to USD55 billion, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
A similar economic crisis affected China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Canada after the 2003 SARS outbreak impacted the global travel and tourism sector by around USD30 billion and USD50 billion.
But for a global health crisis that has lasted for almost a year now, how can the industry today regain its momentum and recover?
For the WTTC, governments must coordinate to provide certainty for travelers with regards to travel restrictions and policies.
In a December 21 statement, Gloria Guevara, WTTC President, and CEO, said: “If a comprehensive and quick turnaround testing regime were in place at airports across the country to test all travelers before they depart, it would ensure only those infected with Covid-19 are isolated and are prevented from traveling. There would be no need for countries to introduce damaging and counterproductive wholesale bans on UK travelers." (PNA)

Of Buses, Pasalubongs, and Fiestas: My Laguna Years
So while I have been writing much about my childhood memories of Ilocos, a big portion of my youth I have been meaning to write about were my college years in UP Los Banos.
I was only 15 years old when I went to the “distant” campus of UP Los Banos in College, Laguna. When I applied for the UPCAT, we only put Los Banos as an alternative campus upon the advise of my older brother, Manong Snokum, himself a graduate of BS Architecture from UP Diliman. He said at least we had a good back-up plan should I not get accepted for my first choice of Diliman campus. In fact, it was only our eldest brother Manong Butch who was able to get in immediately because he was an NSDB (now NSTA) scholar in BS Mathematics. Manong Snokum had to transfer from UST on his second semester, while both Ate Marie and Ate Annette ended up trying out and qualifying for UP Baguio and UP Manila, respectively.
Like the rest of NCR students, majority of my batchmates in high school tried out for UP. But when the UPCAT results came out, only 12 of us qualified or were wait-listed. I remember my classmates saying, “May isang Leonin na nakapasa e…d lang namin sure which one”, referring to me and my cousin, Edlyn. Meanwhile, like the rest of them, I also covered my bases and applied for other universities and colleges. By that time, I had already passed the entrance tests for CEU, Miriam College, UST, Ateneo and was in the process of applying for St. Paul. But of course, UP IS UP, and I quickly jumped at the chance to go the State University be it in a “faraway” campus.
Fortunately, my Mom soon realized that a second cousin of hers was married to a UPLB professor and was living in Los Banos. She reconnected with Tita Cora Pe Benito and made arrangements for me to stay with them. Later would I find out that Tita Cora’s husband, Tito Ruben Villareal was actually the Dean of the College of Agriculture and was pretty well-known and respected in the UPLB community. My affiliation with them would eventually influence my future in UP Los Banos.
* * * *
Our first visit to Los Banos became one of many regular treks to Laguna. Once I began studying in UP Los Banos, this routine became a cherished day trip for my parents and younger siblings, and a sort of bonding activity too. They would drive me over for the next schooldays after I spent the weekend with them in Manila.
Back then, it would be an easy 2 hour drive from Quezon City, traversing EDSA and SLEX to Los Banos. Still not much heavy traffic after Magallanes through Taguig-Bicutan-Paranaque area. As you leave Alabang, the long stretch of SLEX would still be lined by rice fields, and after some time, Maria Makiling’s outline would already be visible. That Southern Tagalog mountain range really looked like a giantess lying in repose; from the soft curve of her breasts to her forehead sloping into her long hair. Mt. Makiling with her accompanying Mt. Banahaw and Cristobal was truly majestic.
As we turn into Calamba, the only other slightly “urbanized” area besides Los Banos, we pass by a few fast food restaurants before the hot spring resorts begin to sprout from all sides. Since Mt. Makiling is a dormant volcano, they say those hot springs served as useful vents to let her steam out. Without those hot springs, some scientists claim Makiling could just wake up and become an active volcano again.
Entering Pansol before Los Banos Bayan area, all you can see are hot and cold spring resorts, and that ubiquitous red-brown quarry at the distance. Through the years, I would observe that natural tower-like feature get eroded both by man and by nature’s forces. We pass Camp Eldridge and PCARRD, which now has that shortcut mountain pass into the UPLB campus, I wonder if this is the same shortcut used by incarcerated Los Banos townsfolk when they were evacuating in World War II and needed to cross over to the other side of Laguna de Bay.
Before long, you reach Brgy. Anos where most buko pie, fresh milk and other pasalubong outlets are, and then comes the famous “Crossing”, that landmark intersection which passes as UP Los Banos’ commercial area. Turning right at the corner Mercury Drug at Crossing, you enter into College and the gateway to UP Los Banos.
Unlike the wide, awe-inspiring University Avenue at Diliman, UPLB’s main gate is narrow and simple. The first thing you see upon entering is not the statue commonly known as the “UP Oblation”, but the carabao heads, the symbol of the UP College of Agriculture first established here prior to World War II. Oh, we do have our own Oblation, albeit much smaller in stature, and it’s located at the center of the campus, in front of our Humanities building. But like Diliman, it would please you to know that scattered around the UPLB campus are some artful sculptures too – like the Mariang Makiling which now stands at the bottom of the road going to Forestry, or the “flying” carabao at the Main Library, the Pinay lass with her banga at the Palma bridge pavilion, or the notorious “the Graduate” at the Social Garden (these last two having some weird tales surrounding them, but that’s another story.)
Tito Ruben and Tita Cora’s house was actually off-campus, in a subdivision near the International Rice Research Institute (IRR). Getting to their place, you can take either the long route via Ipil Drive and IRRI, or the steep hill at the back of the Animal Husbandry side which takes you directly to their village after coming downhill. Due to the distance, we had to coordinate rides to and from campus. But with two of my cousins still in high school and my other cousin busy with his fraternity activities, it was quite difficult scheduling rides, especially since I started having my own extra-curricular activities. A few times I had to get rides from friends – the very popular Luistro brothers, Kim and Gianni, of the UPLB soccer fame, or my sweet and very kind kabatch, Noel Cuyno ‘86.
There were days I caught the free shuttle to IRRI then took that wooden trolley contraption locals ride along the train tracks, and walked the rest of the way to Pleasantville. You go from the long line of trees along Ipil Drive to IRRI, then get a very good panoramic view of the experimental rice fields backdropped by the mountains of Mt. Makiling and Mt. Banahaw, and even Mt. Cristobal. The trolley ride was truly an experience – novel and innovative as it is, it was quite fun to have the wind in your hair. That is, until a train comes along and you all have to get off the tracks to let it pass since the train does have the right-of-way. The real challenge is managing not to get sucked in by the train rushing by. You have to cling to the tall grasses at the sides for dear life until then.
Either way, whether I take the Animal Science route or the long IRRI road, those walks usually treated me to the wonder of flying exotic birds, a rabbit crossing the road, or an occasional snake during rainy season. It was also there I learned to navigate by the weather…watching out for the dark clouds hovering above to decide which route I would be taking so I won’t be soaked by the sudden rain. Until now, I still watch out for cloudy days and time my trips accordingly because I hate getting caught in the rains.
Those days you could still hitch a ride from the vehicles going to and from IRRI, when we used hand-signals to indicate to jeepneys where we want to go, when UPLB was a close-knit community where most people are connected and know each other from somewhere, somehow. We were safe and secure, and the worst that could happen was getting recruited to become NPA rebels…that, or experiencing those notorious paranormal incidents UPLB is so famous for. Yes, those were the times when there wasn’t any Mayor Sanchez and his goons, or drug-related rape cases.
After my first year, deciding that I had adjusted well enough, I opted to move to an on-campus dormitory. I managed to get a slot at the foremost Co-Ed dorm, then-called “Men’s Dorm” because it used to be solely for male students. Of course, there were all-girls dorms on campus, like the neighboring Women’s Dorm and St. Therese dorm run by the local parish nuns. But I really wanted to experience the whole Hollywood teeny-bopper college campus life for real and luckily when a sorority sister graduated, I got her token space in the so-called Sigma Deltan room at Men’s.
When I was at my relatives, all I had to worry about was budgeting my weekly allowance and getting home after classes. But at the dorm, I had to budget my allowance for food, my transportation back to Manila, getting to my classes on time, and managing my extra-curricular hours responsibly. I was really on my own, and had to act like a mature adult. During the 1987 and 1989 coup d’etats, we got stranded in UPLB because Metro Manila was in chaos. We had to do our own laundry, scrounge enough extra cash to feed ourselves, and manage to home to Quezon City.
Prior to UP Los Banos, I didn’t know how to commute using public transport. Now, I had to learn to take the bus to and from Laguna. Back then, the premier busline was BLTB (Batangas, Laguna, Tayabas Buslines) of the Potenciano family. Eventually the company folded, and my alternatives were Kapalaran and Superlines plying the whole Laguna and Quezon route. While there were a few aircon buses, mostly it was ordinary, open-window commuters that you catch from Crossing. In summer, it was either you suffocate in the heat inside the bus or keep the windows open and let your face take all the G-Force of SLEX.
If not for the BLTB Pasay route, I sometimes had to take the Lawton trip and get off at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila for a Project 2-3 jeepney. Otherwise, I get off at Alabang for an EDSA bus transfer to Quezon City, usually a Monumento or Fairview-bound trip. Once in QC, I either get off in Cubao or at the corner of Kamias-EDSA. I had to learn these routes and transfers the hard way, because I made a few wrong rides too.
But I remember the Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI) milk I used to drink on those long bus trips. The shing-a-ling (local fried noodles) being peddled by vendors hopping on and off the buses, along with an assortment of commercial buko pies, espasol, banana or kamote fritters, etc. My sister, Giselle soon learned about kwek-kwek, those orange-covered eggs that you dip into vinegar, deep-friend day-old chicks, and pansit habhab at those bus terminals too.
Getting around the CALABARZON area with our friends, my sister, Giselle and I were soon introduced to the tradition of fiestas in these parts. Besides parish-led activities, most towns have other festivities that include feeding majority of visitors to their place. As s guest, you are invited to most homes even if they don’t know you and you are obliged to sample their dishes. One thing we noticed during these “culinary rounds” was that most houses served the classic pansit bihon, menudong Tagalog, and fruit salad.
These local delicacies and simple fare soon grew on me, and without the fast food cuisine we got so used to in the city, these were welcome changes. I learned to exchange my favorite Coca-cola for fresh milk, began to like buko pie and local breads from the bakery instead of burgers and pizza, and those long, necessary walks actually did wonders for my legs and gluteus maximus.
But the thing I really loved the most about my Laguna days, was the clean, fresh air, the amazing greenery surrounding you, a closeness to nature that I will always have an affinity for. Nowadays, I take the opportunity to drop by UP Diliman for a regular dose of nature. Sometimes, I get lucky enough to have the time to visit La Mesa Ecopark or the Parks and Wildlife Park of QC.
Every so often, I still trek to Los Banos to reconnect with my past, commune with nature, and to simply ground myself. For it was there I did a lot of growing up. It was there I found, and keep finding myself, when I feel lost and in need of some peace. Most of all, in that valley by Mt. Makiling, I keep finding focus and direction.

Air conditioning can be utilized in both domestic and commercial environments. This procedure is most typically utilized to attain a more comfy interior environment, typically for humans and other animals; nevertheless, air conditioning is likewise used to cool and dehumidify spaces filled with heat-producing electronic devices, such as computer servers, power amplifiers, and to display and save some fragile items, such as art work. Air conditioning system often use a fan to distribute the conditioned air to an occupied area such as a structure or a cars and truck to enhance thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Electric refrigerant-based AC systems range from little systems that can cool a small bed room, which can be brought by a single adult, to huge systems installed on the roof of workplace towers that can cool a whole building. The cooling is normally achieved through a refrigeration cycle, however sometimes evaporation or free cooling is utilized. Air-conditioning is the procedure utilized to produce and preserve specific temperature, relative humidity and air purity conditions in indoor spaces. This procedure is generally applied to keep a level of individual convenience. It's likewise used in industrial applications to ensure the proper operation of equipment or equipment that needs to run in specific environmental conditions or alternatively to be able to perform certain industrial processes, such as welding, which produce substantial quantities of heat that need to be dealt with in some manner. An air-conditioning system needs to be effective no matter outside climatic conditions and involves control over 4 essential variables: air temperature, humidity, motion, and quality. Air conditioning is no longer considered as the luxury that it as soon as was, and there is now an increasing demand for applications varying through domestic, industrial, commercial, and transport and for specialized setups such as medical facilities, research facilities, information centers, and clean spaces. The engineering systems in modern-day buildings and setups make a significant contribution to the total building efficiency in regards to energy usage. Systems require to be progressively sophisticated in their design, installation, operation, control, and upkeep at a time when there is increasing pressure for higher energy performance. How Air Conditioning Work A/c unit utilize refrigeration to chill indoor air, making the most of a remarkable physical law: When a liquid converts to a gas (in a process called phase conversion), it soaks up heat. Ac system exploit this feature of stage conversion by forcing special chemical substances to evaporate and condense over and over once again in a closed system of coils. The substances involved are refrigerants that have properties allowing them to alter at fairly low temperature levels. Ac system likewise include fans that move warm interior air over these cold, refrigerant-filled coils. Central air conditioners have an entire system of ducts created to funnel air to and from these serpentine, air-chilling coils. When hot air flows over the cold, low-pressure evaporator coils, the refrigerant inside soaks up heat as it alters from a liquid to a gaseous state. To keep cooling efficiently, the a/c unit needs to transform the refrigerant gas back to a liquid again. To do that, a compressor puts the gas under high pressure, a procedure that creates undesirable heat. All the extra heat developed by compressing the gas is then left to the outdoors with the help of the 2nd set of coils called condenser coils, and a second fan. As the gas cools, it alters back to a liquid, and the process starts all over again. Consider it as a limitless, elegant cycle: liquid refrigerant, stage conversion to a gas/ heat absorption, compression and phase shift back to a liquid again. It's easy to see that there are two distinct things going on in an a/c unit. Refrigerant is cooling the indoor air, and the resulting gas is being continually compressed and cooled for conversion back to a liquid again. On the next page, we'll look at how the different parts of an air conditioner work to make all that possible. Different Types Of Aic Conditioners: Portable Or Mobile Air Conditioners Possibly the most familiar air conditioning unit to a lot of consumers, these units do not require special installing however do come with a flexible air pipe which is routed through a window or hole in the wall. Typically, the size of the air pipe is about 5 ″ and the pipelines have to do with 2-- 3 m long. The air conditioner discharges hot through this pipeline when in use. Because the compressor is located inside the system rather than when it comes to split systems, in an external aspect, the mobile monoblock a/c unit have the drawback of being quite loud and restricted in capability. On the other hand, they do not require installation and are these days reasonably low-cost to buy. Although there are numerous mobile air conditioning system on the marketplace, the huge bulk are little systems either 9000 or 12000 btu, we just sell mobile systems larger than 10000 btu, merely due to the fact that for the vast majority of applications 9000 btu models are simply too little. Floor Mounted Air Conditioners Flooring mounted monoblock a/c unit are set up versus the wall in the same way a storage heating unit is and they are common of a similar look and size to storage heating units. These kinds of a/c generally have a heatpump facility, thus offering very economical heating in chillier months. These ac system generally have 2 air pipes which lead directly from the rear of the unit, through the wall, where the ends are generally capped with small louvers Wall Mounted Air Conditioners Some times called high wall a/c, wall mounted monoblock air conditioning is a neat solution to older buildings where planning does not permit the installation of an external condenser unit. The wall-mounted monoblock air conditioner connects high on the wall and two air pipes are routed from the back directly through the wall. The downside of these a/c is that they are somewhat larger in-depth compared to the split wall-mounted unit as the condenser is included inside the wall mount system. They generally include a heat pump so that air can be heated in winter in addition to cooled in summer. Spot Coolers Area cooling can be provided by these big mobile monoblock ac system. They are greatly developed, powerful and created to be wheeled to ships, boats, and aircraft to provide temporary cooling to the internal air. Spot coolers can also be utilized to offer cool air to commercial procedures. Unlike little portable air conditioners, spot coolers are developed to be located in the warm outdoors air and to offer cool air into areas that they themselves do not inhabit. The majority of have the capability to deliver cold air through a number of ducts to precisely where the air is required. The snout pipelines that are normally fitted to the front of these units are rigid however adjustable, allowing the circulation of cold air to be directed to a preset spot. Window Air Conditioners Window air conditioning unit or window rattlers as they are described by the trade utilized to be the most prevalent configuration of the air conditioners. They are almost standard in homes, homes, workplaces and cabins in Mediterranean nations and the Middle East. The standard ones can just chill the air, the more costly have a heat pump mode and push-button control. The primary drawbacks of window air-conditioners are increased noise and necessity of installing into the window opening or more normally through a narrow wall. On the plus side, they are fairly priced and easy to fit. Window ac system are in some cases called 'thro the wall ac system', although they typically can not be mounted in a wall any thicker than 9 ″ because then the extra depth of wall impinges and blocks the airflow from the side vents of the units on the outside. Several of our customers find it more affordable long-term to run and replace window a/c, to install and maintain split systems. An air conditioner can alter the temperature, humidity or basic quality of the air. More particularly, an a/c makes your house cooler, by drawing heat out of the house and transferring that heat to the outdoors, then replacing the air inside your home with cooler air. Unlike with air conditioning unit, which work best when you keep the doors and windows closed, air coolers require to be placed in an excellent airflow near an open window (where dry fresh air can be found in) and with an open door (for damp exhaust air to drain). That makes sense if you consider it: the water you're adding to the airflow is "soaking" up heat from the space, and if you continuously expel wet air while permitting dry air to enter in its place, you're constantly removing heat. Air coolers that work by direct evaporation (including water) can likewise be used as humidifiers though, in that case, the doors and windows do require to be kept closed to enable the humidity to increase.

Air conditioning can be utilized in both domestic and business environments. This procedure is most commonly utilized to achieve a more comfy interior environment, generally for humans and other animals; however, air conditioning is likewise utilized to cool and dehumidify spaces filled with heat-producing electronic devices, such as computer servers, power amplifiers, and to show and store some delicate products, such as art work. A/c frequently use a fan to distribute the conditioned air to an occupied space such as a structure or a vehicle to enhance thermal convenience and indoor air quality. Electric refrigerant-based AC systems vary from small units that can cool a little bed room, which can be brought by a single grownup, to enormous units set up on the roofing of office towers that can cool a whole structure. The cooling is typically achieved through a refrigeration cycle, but often evaporation or complimentary cooling is utilized. Air-conditioning is the process utilized to create and maintain specific temperature, relative humidity and air purity conditions in indoor spaces. This procedure is typically applied to preserve a level of personal convenience. It's likewise used in commercial applications to ensure the proper operation of equipment or equipment that needs to operate in specific environmental conditions or alternatively to be able to carry out certain industrial processes, such as welding, which produce substantial quantities of heat that need to be disposed of in some manner. An air-conditioning system must be effective despite outside weather conditions and includes control over four essential variables: air temperature, humidity, movement, and quality. Air conditioning is no longer considered the high-end that it as soon as was, and there is now an increasing need for applications varying through domestic, commercial, commercial, and transport and for specialized setups such as medical facilities, research study facilities, data centers, and tidy spaces. The engineering systems in modern-day buildings and setups make a significant contribution to the overall structure efficiency in regards to energy use. Systems need to be significantly advanced in their style, setup, operation, control, and maintenance at a time when there is increasing pressure for higher energy performance. How Air Conditioning Work Air conditioners utilize refrigeration to chill indoor air, making the most of an amazing physical law: When a liquid converts to a gas (in a procedure called phase conversion), it soaks up heat. Ac system exploit this feature of stage conversion by forcing special chemical compounds to evaporate and condense over and over once again in a closed system of coils. The substances included are refrigerants that have properties allowing them to change at relatively low temperatures. Ac system likewise consist of fans that move warm interior air over these cold, refrigerant-filled coils. Main air conditioners have a whole system of ducts developed to funnel air to and from these serpentine, air-chilling coils. When hot air flows over the cold, low-pressure evaporator coils, the refrigerant inside takes in heat as it alters from a liquid to a gaseous state. To keep one's cool efficiently, the air conditioning system needs to convert the refrigerant gas back to a liquid once again. To do that, a compressor puts the gas under high pressure, a procedure that produces undesirable heat. All the extra heat developed by compressing the gas is then evacuated to the outdoors with the help of the 2nd set of coils called condenser coils, and a second fan. As the gas cools, it changes back to a liquid, and the process begins all over again. Consider it as a limitless, classy cycle: liquid refrigerant, phase conversion to a gas/ heat absorption, compression and stage transition back to a liquid again. It's easy to see that there are two distinct things going on in an air conditioning unit. Refrigerant is chilling the indoor air, and the resulting gas is being continually compressed and cooled for conversion back to a liquid again. On the next page, we'll take a look at how the different parts of an ac system work to make all that possible. Different Kinds Of Aic Conditioners: Portable Or Mobile Air Conditioners Perhaps the most familiar air conditioning system to most consumers, these systems do not need unique installing but do come with a flexible air pipe which is routed through a window or hole in the wall. They are nearly basic in homes, houses, offices and cabins in Mediterranean nations and the Middle East. The fundamental ones can only chill the air, the more costly have a heatpump mode and remote control. The primary downsides of window air-conditioners are increased noise and need of installing into the window opening or more normally through a narrow wall.
