This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.

REFILE-VEGOILS-Palm oil extends gains amid weather woes at oilseeds plantations SINGAPORE, May 7 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures rose on Tuesday for a second session, tracking sustained gains in soyoil amid poor weather in Brazil and Russia, while key palm producer Indonesia's adverse weather conditions also supported palm prices. The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for July delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange rose 60 ringgit, or 1.55%, to 3,922 ringgit ($827.43) a metric ton by midday break. After the massive sell-off of Malaysian palm oil in April, the market is re-pricing itself amid weather vagaries in Brazil and Indonesia impacting edible oils, said Paramalingam Supramaniam, director at Selangor-based brokerage Pelindung Bestari. Worries over soybeans shortage amid potentially crop-damaging weather in Brazil and Russia are pushing soyoil prices higher. Indonesia's meteorological agency warned of potential extreme weather events occurring in the country from May 7-13 such as tornadoes and thunderstorms leading to floods and landslides. About 64% of Indonesia will experience dry season from May to August this year, Malaysia-based Bernama reported on Saturday, quoting Indonesia's meteorological agency. Oil prices ticked up after Israel struck Rafah in Gaza even as negotiations for a ceasefire with Hamas continued without resolution. Stronger crude oil futures make palm a more attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. The Malaysian ringgit MYR=, palm's currency of trade, weakened 0.06% against the dollar. A weaker ringgit makes palm oil more attractive for foreign currency holders. Palm oil may test resistance at 3,926 ringgit per ton, with a good chance of breaking above this level and rising towards 3,969 ringgit, said Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao. Nelson Mandela International Day recognizes the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.

The UN joins a call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67 minutes to helping others as a way to mark this Day.

OnePlus 12: Here's What We Know so Far

We're still a bit far away from the launch of OnePlus' next flagship device, the OnePlus 12, although it's never too early for some good old-fashioned internet leaks. Currently, the OnePlus 11 reigns as the brand's supreme blockbuster handset, but it looks like the internet has been rather busy trying to dig up what it can on OnePlus' yet-to-be-released powerhouse smartphone. At the moment of course, these leaks are all unconfirmed, at least by OnePlus or any other official entities, but they paint a pretty interesting picture as to what we can expect from the OnePlus 12 - what do we have so far? Let's find out! External Design It's not uncommon for smartphone manufacturers to re-use existing designs for future devices, especially in the case of handsets like the iPhone 13 and 14, and the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra. With that in mind, a handful of images from tech website Smartprix and OnLeaks show that the OnePlus 12 might end up looking familiar - a little too familiar, that is. The renders show a design that's very reminiscent of the OnePlus 11, especially on the device's rear panel. The OnePlus 12 is predicted to come with a very similar look to its predecessor, with the same circular styling of the camera module, as well as the off-centre placement on the back. There's also a curved display, something that we've seen on several OnePlus phones already, and it looks like the company will be using a 6.7-inch display, with 2K pixel resolution. Internal Hardware and Cameras As for what's inside the phone, rumors from Chinese social networking site Weibo suggest that the OnePlus 12 will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a mobile SoC which still hasn't been released or announced yet, but we have little doubt is currently in development at the time being. It only makes sense, especially since OnePlus flagships always feature the latest high-end chips from Qualcomm. The phone might also come with a triple-camera array on the rear, with a 50-megapixel main Sony IMX sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, as well as a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Based on the renders shown, it looks like OnePlus will still retain the Hasselblad branding for the 12, at least for now. It's also expected that the phone will come with a 5000 mAh battery, with support for 150W fast-charging speeds, something that's not yet seen on a majority of flagship devices. With all that being said, it looks like the OnePlus 12 is shaping up to be an impressive Android phone. THEATRE:HOME - 2:150 (thanks pandemic)

I usually separate out docs and fiction, but I watched almost no documentaries this year (with the exception of Dick Johnston). Reality is real enough.

TV Series

01 - BoJack Horseman (final season) - Pretty damned poignant finish to the show, replete with actual consequences for our reformed bad boy protagonist (which is more than you can say for most antiheroes of Peak TV).

02 - *Hello Ladies - I enjoy the pure awkwardness of seeing Stephen Merchant try to perform being a Regular Person, but ultimately this show tips him too far towards a nasty, Ricky Gervais-lite sort of persona. Perhaps he was always best as a cameo appearance, or lip synching with wild eyes while Chrissy Teigen giggles?

03 - Olive Kittredge - a rough watch by times. I read the book as well, later in the year. Frances Mcdormand was the best, possibly the only, casting option for the flinty lead. One episode tips into thriller territory, which is a shock.

04 - *The Wire S3, S4, S5 - lockdown culture! It was interesting to rewatch this, then a few months later go through an enormous, culture-level reappraisal of cop-centred narratives.

05 - Forever - a Maya Rudolph/Fred Armisen joint that coasts on the charm of its leads. The premise is OK, but I wasn’t left wanting any more at the end.

06 - *Catastrophe - a rewatch when my partner decided he wanted to see it, too!

07 - Red Oak - resolutely “OK” steaming dramedy, relied heavily on some pretty obvious cues to get across its 1980s setting.

08 - Little Fires Everywhere - gulped this one down while in 14-day isolation, delicious! Every 90s suburban mom had that SUV, but not all of them had the requisite **secrets**

09 - The Great - fun historical comedy/drama! Costumes: lush. Actors: amusing. Race-blind casting: refreshing!

10 - The Crown S4 - this is the season everyone lost their everloving shit for, since it’s finally recent enough history that a fair chunk of the viewing audience is liable to recall it happening.

11 - Ted Lasso - we resisted this one for a while (thought I did enjoy the ad campaign for NBC sports (!!) that it was based on). My view is that its best point was the comfort that the men on the show have (or develop, throughout the season) with the acknowledgement and sharing of their own feelings. Masculinity redux.

12 - Moonbase 8 - Goodnatured in a way that makes you certain they will be crushed.

13 - The Good Lord Bird - Ethan Hawke is really aging into the character actor we always hoped he would be!

14 - Hollywood - frothy wish-fulfillment alternate history. I think the show would have been improved immeasurably by skipping the final episode.

checked his wp page b/c was skeptical re patriot act (i'd remembered the sole objector as being from the pnw) and to clarify, he voted against reupping the patriot act starting w/ his election in 2010, when opposition was much more popular and also it was easier in the house mutatis mutandis (eg reupping in 2011 had 27 R nays in the house, compared to 2 in the senate) even beyond this nitpick, good on him

good point. he didn’t get the chance to vote against the original PATRIOT Act. he did make several similar unpopular votes though:

In July 2018 House Republicans introduced a resolution supporting the officers and personnel of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Amash was the only Republican in the chamber to vote against the resolution.[64][65] He tweeted, "The House voted today on an inane resolution regarding ICE. The resolution makes several dubious claims and denounces calls to abolish ICE. I wouldn't abolish ICE without an alternative, but there's no reason to treat a federal agency as though it's beyond reproach and reform."[65]

In December 2018 Amash was one of eight House Republicans to vote against a stopgap government funding bill that included $5.7 billion in border wall funding. Amash tweeted, "This massive, wasteful spending bill – stuffed with unrelated items – passed 217–185. It’s amazing how some wall funding causes my fellow Republicans to embrace big government."[66]

In February 2019 Amash was the only House Republican to co-sponsor a resolution blocking Trump’s national emergency declaration seeking additional funds to build physical barriers on the southern border. He tweeted, "A national emergency declaration for a non-emergency is void. A prerequisite for declaring an emergency is that the situation requires immediate action and Congress does not have an opportunity to act. @POTUS @realDonaldTrump is attempting to circumvent our constitutional system."[67] On February 25, Amash was one of 13 House Republicans to vote to block Trump's declaration.[68]

We have identified a problem with some aluminum Apple PowerBook G4 models. These laptops may not provide sufficient power from one or both of their built-in USB ports.

Digidesign is providing a beta firmware and driver update to help counteract these issues. Only users experiencing a lack or loss of communication with Mbox 2 and a PowerBook G4 should use this update. If you do not have a PowerBook G4, there is no need to update your Mbox 2 firmware with this version.

To update your Mbox 2 firmware and driver from a Macintosh:

Quit all applications and connect your Mbox 2 to your computer.

Download the file to the left named Mbox 2 Firmware Updater 1.38 for Mac OS X.

Run the installer. This will install the updated drivers onto your computer, as well as place the Firmware Updater applica-tion on your desktop.

Restart your computer. Note that the Mbox 2 LEDs will not light up. This is normal and expected.

Go to Applications/System Preferences and launch the Mbox 2 Control Panel to verify that your Mbox 2 is connected. This may take up to 30 seconds.

Launch the Firmware Updater that was placed on your desktop to update the Mbox 2 firmware.

If you have multiple Mac intosh machines, you will need to update the drivers on all your Macintosh machines: Repeat steps 1–5 for each additional Macintosh. You can skip step 6 because you only need to update the firmware once.

Macintosh users that update to this firmware will not have their Mbox 2 recognized on a Windows-based PC unless they also update the Mbox 2 drivers on that Windows machine.

In all different mods, the horizontal deflection voltage of the CRT will be changed this is achieved by changing on the analog board. One way is to change the horizontal deflection voltage to 68,4V this is ending up with a refresh rate of 60Hz in the CRT - the so-called VGA Mod. The second way is to increase the horizontal deflection voltage to 84V which ends in 67Hz refresh rate in the CRT - the so call Hi-Res or 13' Mod. Some of you will now say: 'nice, lets max it out and take the 67Hz because it has not so much flicker'. That's correct but increasing the horizontal deflection voltage to 84V will put more stress on the logic board. The logic board of the color classic is a very weak one out of stock and that's why it recommended putting not so much stress on it. There is one new way to get 67Hz with 640x480 which puts not so much stress on the analog board but that I will explain later. To give you a quick overview, the CCSCC(which pages are unfortunately down) has created the following table to get a better understanding what possible:

For more background information you have to know how the screen gets the new resolution. Changing the horizontal deflection voltage is part 1. Part 2 of every mod is to change the so-called 'sense lining' which you already mentioned in the table. Option 2: 84V - HiRes Mod

Many years ago there was a first try to increase the Voltage to 84V to use the HiRes Mode. I will not describe this one because today there is a much more efficient way. The first HiRes Mode produces very high stress to the analog board. It's safer to do it in the way as techknight describes it in the forum of 68kmla.org under: 'Color Classic VGA Mod. the CORRECT way'. Techknight reverse engineered a never released developer version of the analog board where significant design changes have made directly from an Apple engineer. The results are that the board is more stable and can better work with the 84V HiRes Mod. You have to change much more components on the analog board but its really worth to do it. Once Again: You have to do this mod if you wanna stay with the standard color classic logic board.

When you are done and your screen is showing 640x480 you will be happy at first. The second thing you will see is that you have to adjust new. You have to do the most settings new because the whole screen is used now under different settings.

For doing the screen settings there are several potentiometers. You find them on the back and on the side of the analog board. The important ones are on the Back. The picture on the left shows you what effect the potentiometers will have. Apple has developed an own tool the 'Apple Display Service Utility' wich shows test pattern for adjusting the display settings. You find it on the downloads page. On the downloads page you also find the original Apple Service Manual for the Color Classic. There are some more descriptions of the possible settings.

It sometimes happens that you cannot stretch so much to let the black borders disappear. That's because of the higher deflective voltage. By an idea of a long gone website of the ccscc it is possible to add a small capacitor on the empty CL26 position. The larger the capacitor the larger the effect. You can experiment with 1nF - 4nF, 1600V capacitors. In my opinion, I only see the effect starting from 3nF but it depends on your analog board.

If your black borders are very strong after the 640x480 mod and the CL26 capacitor brings not the effect you can do one more thing. But be warned, this is a little bit risky! There is a small potentiometer on the analog board called PP1. Turning the PP1 tight raises supplying voltage. Please control raising the Voltage at the test point TP1(connected to chalk coil LP5) with a power meter and drive it slowly up to 84V. With the words from the CCSCC: This adjustment effects +60V (+84V, after remodeling), +24V and +8.4V. It effects to geometry adjustment and video adjustment like as horizontal drive transistor, horizontal pre-drive FET, pin phase correction IC, vertical drive IC, video processing IC and RGB gain adjustment (green gain and blue gain only at Color Classic). The iPhone 13 Series was launched at the 14th September Apple Event where they revealed four phones in the lineup, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple has not announced a release date in Nepal but It's on sale around the world and will be available in Nepal after Mid October.

The major question is should you need to upgrade from iPhone to 12 to 13? Let's find out by side-by-side comparison of every new feature added in the iPhone 13 Series. Worthy/Unworthy?

Design Changes in iPhone 13 Series:

In terms of design both the iPhone 12 and 13 series have the same screen size, same design materials but the buttons are moved a little down in iPhone 13 segment. The major change in the design of the iPhone 13 series the notch has become 20% smaller as compared to the previous generation. Both of the iPhone series come with IP-68 water and dust resistance. And the cameras are re-positioned in Non-Pro Variants of the iPhone 13 as shown in the picture below.

Both of the iPhone 12 and 13 series come with Super Retina XDR OLED Display with 2532 x 1170 Resolution and Strong Ceramic Shield protection on the screen side. But there are huge changes in screen Refresh Rate. All models of the iPhone 12 series come with a 60 Hz display but iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max series features Apple's ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate. You will miss this feature in iPhone 13 and 13 mini. Both iPhone series come with the same peak brightness of 1200 nits.

iPhones are known for their performance and software optimisation. Every year the iPhone comes with a new Bionic Chip and upgraded performance as compared to the previous generation. But the charging capacity is still the same (20W) wired charging and (15W) wireless charging in both of the series.

Camera Comparison iPhone 12 vs iPhone 13

The most important improvement in the iPhone 13 lineup is the Camera. The size of the Camera sensor has been increased because of this you can get crispier and detailed photos in iPhone 13. Apple claims there is a sensor-shift technology in iPhone 13 series which helps to get more stable videos. As I mentioned Camera sensor has been bigger, so you will get more improved low light camera performance in the iPhone 13 series as compared to the iPhone 12 series.

The most hype in the iPhone 13 series is "Cinematic Mode" as an important Camera feature. Basically, it is a feature where you can create Bokeh Video with outstanding edge detection. This feature will allow you to capture video like a professional camera.

Technically, both iPhone 12 and 13 series have the same camera specifications but new things are Cinematic Video Mode and Sharp images quality in the iPhone 13 lineup.

In terms of the front camera, you will get the same 12MP sensor on both iPhone 12 and 13 series. iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max series have 77m Telephoto Lens which is missing in 13 and mini.

Verdict: If you are planning to upgrade from iPhone 12 to 13 for the camera then once you need to think about it, there's not much difference.
