I know it's probably been years since most people engaged with anything Resident Evil related, especially in regards to the last film, but I finished watching all the movies and the tv show, and God I love them all so much.

Welcome to Raccoon City is easily my favourite one and I would personally fund a second movie if I could. I'm not surprised so many hated it though; people who are fans of the "original" never accept remakes of any kind, or will always criticize it for not being exact. But it's easily my favourite watch of 2024. Wish I'd known about this universe sooner and could have watched it in theatres.

Rookie weakness

(Based on Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) The others laugh at Leon for his rookie status so Claire puts a smile back on his face

“Damn hippie” Chris mutters as he shoves past Leon “Get a hair cut!” Albert yells as Jill throws her lunch rubbish at him. Leon says nothing and just walks away, not bothering to turn back as they all laugh at him, this was middle school all over again.

Leon was now alone in the changing room, he looked down at the floor and sighed “I knew being a cop wasn’t going to be easy but it’s a lot harder when the whole S.T.A.R.S unit are a load of…” he paused, thinking of what to call them as he rambled to himself “Snobby high school jerks?” Claire said “They’re all college graduates but they sure as hell don’t act it”. Leon jumped, he hadn’t noticed her there “Sorry, who are you?” he asked “I’m Claire, my brother is one of the S.T.A.R.S members, I saw him shove you and laugh at you and, well, I came to check on you, I’ve never seen him act like that before” “You don’t need to apologise for him” Leon said “I wasn’t going to, I was going to drag him by the ear until he apologised” Claire said with a smile.

Leon chuckled at her statement and Claire smiled even wider “Hey, there’s a smile” she teased, brushing his hair away from his face “Your hair is so soft and fluffy” she added “Stop” Leon said, getting flustered by her compliments. Claire attempts to pull Leon into a small hug but the second her hand touched his side, he jumped “H-Hey!” Leon gasped “That tickled”.

Claire’s face lit up when she heard that and she gently poked his side again, causing light giggles to pour out of Leon “Stohohop it!” he whined as Claire gradually increased the speed of her fingers. She moved from his sides to his stomach and began wiggling her fingers against the sensitive skin “N-Nohoho, nohohot thehere!” Leon chuckled “Why? Did I get your spot?” Claire teased “Yehehes! Thahahahat’s my wohorst spohohot! Plehehease stohohohohop!” he begged.

Claire decided that he’d had enough and ceased tickling his stomach, Leon clutched his stomach as the laughter and ticklishness wore off “Thahat actually hehelped, thahanks” he said “No problem, at least I know how to cheer you up when my brother and his buddies are being jerks” she said with a sweet smile on her face.

“Claire, where were you?” asked Chris “With a friend” she responded “A boyfriend?” Jill asked “Well, he’s a boy but we’re not together, just friends” Claire said “Speaking of which, I told him I’d do this”. Claire dragged Chris by the ear to the door of the S.T.A.R.S office and opened it, everyone was certainly surprised to see the rookie on the other side with his arms crossed. “Apologies” Claire said “Claire, what the hELL-!?” Chris shrieked as his little sister pulled harder “Apologies!” she snapped “O-Okay! Okay, I’m sorry! I’m sorry rook- Leon! I’m sorry!” Chris yelped “Good” said Claire, letting go of his ear.

Claire took Leon by the hand “There’s a coffee shop I wanna show you” she said. The S.T.A.R.S team was dumbfounded, they had no clue that Claire could be so intimidating, they looked to Chris who had his head down in shame and was rubbing the pain from his ear. There were two new rules put in place from then on:

1. Don’t bully Leon

2. DON’T PISS OFF CLAIRE

leon’s head would go back as he tried to stay sleeping and resting it on his shoulder, you could hear the music that was playing and tapped your foot along with the rhythm.

you had left the room a few minutes after brian had yelled at leon, you weren’t going on the helicopter to look for the others plus it didn’t have much room for another person but you knew jill could handle herself but redfield and wesker were a different story.

you noticed leon’s muddy boots on the desk, knowing he would get some sort of talk about it if anyone else found him like this. you moved from your spot, walking to him trying not to wake him up just yet.

you grabbed his headphones gently, leon’s heart raced as he felt the headphone come off him, his eyes opened quickly then he instantly relaxed when he noticed it was you.

“sleep good?” you asked with a laugh.

leon looked at you then to the floor, moving his shoes from the desk and rubbing his hands on his pants.

“uh- yeah” he said with a nervous laugh.

“you’re lucky i found you rookie, chris would’ve tried balancing stuff on your head” you joked as you sat the headphones down.

leon was quiet until you got to know him, that was your hunch about him, there was no way he was this quiet all the time.

“did i miss anything?” he asked and looked up at you. his hair moving out of his face. maybe it was the look he gave you that made your stomach be engulfed with butterflies, or maybe it was because he was so pretty.

now suddenly you were the shy and nervous one, just barely squeaking out a simple “no” before looking down to the floor.

If you like Leon S. Kennedy as a Resident Evil character, NEVER watch Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. This is the one RE media that I've watched that I actually, genuinely hate.

They took one of the most iconic characters and turned him into a useless joke:

- His introduction as a character is him asleep at a diner, in full uniform as a cop. This gives the impression that he's lazy or not put together.

- His relationship with the other officers is that they make fun of him and he doesn't do anything about it. He comes off as non-confrontational and the fact that he doesn't seem to have anything to look forward to relationship-wise with his fellow officers makes them dying later not all that sad.

- His backstory is that he shot someone in the ass at his last job and now he's been transferred because his dad is some important higher-up in the force. This, again, makes him into a huge joke and makes him sound completely incompetent.

- After again being made fun of and also called stupid, he goes to do his job at the front desk (shows even less experience) and falls asleep AGAIN. And this time, a truck literally explodes right at the door in front of him and he doesn't. Wake. Up. He only wakes up after the zombified truck driver, who is ON FIRE runs up to him and almost grabs him. WHY???

- They have a scene where Claire and Leon are in the armory and he picks up a shotgun and doesn't even know how to cock it. Claire takes it from him, does it herself, and hands him a bulletproof vest instead. This dude went through police training and can't do a basic task that an untrained person can typically figure out.

- Every time something happens he freaks out and has to be helped by someone else (see: him not shooting a zombie and Claire having to do it for him).

- He says that he doesn't know why he became a cop. In the game, he says that he became a cop because he wanted to help people. How am I supposed to like him as a character when he shows no motivation for anything? He's just kinda there

- The ONLY useful thing he does is grab a rocket launcher and kill a mutated William Birkin at the very end of the movie.

This isn't even getting into all the other things about the movie that sucks. Why did they decide to write it so that RE1 and 2 take place at the same time when RE2 and 3 already do? Why is Chief Irons the most lame character ever and not even remotely evil? Why did they have to write that Chris has a crush on Jill and Jill has a crush on Wesker?

The only good things I can say about this movie is that it was actually pretty cool that the RPD actually looked like it does in the game and they had the four keys from it as well as quite a few other references like that. Also their explanation for why the STARS members and Leon (all in the police force) aren't infected is actually kinda neat. If only they'd put more effort into writing a good script.

OH YEAH ALSO!!! They're planning to make a sequel and I think that's hilarious because what game could they possibly adapt in that case? They can't do the third one because they already showed what Jill was doing during the Raccoon City Incident in that movie and there's no way I can imagine the Leon from that universe ever going through what he does in Resident Evil 4. I guess they could do CODE: Veronica or something but I'm sure it'd be a dumpster fire no matter which game they try to adapt next.

i was looking at "welcome to raccoon city" (that resident evil movie that was released in 2021) because i was gonna watch it with my sibling bc we both love this franchise and wanted to make fun of the live action movies, but tell me why jill valentine is there but not carlos oliveira. where is he. carlos was in raccoon city. what the hell where is carlos where is my wife

theres so much about the movie that's just.. wrong.. but also THEY JUST GOT RID OF A WHOLE CHARACTER?? and it makes me SO mad because he's my favorite character in the franchise

carlos is literally THE REASON jill made it out of raccoon city alive, and they just?? didn't put him in the movie??
