Miss Eyes and I have had some pretty awesome cuddles during my time off work ❤️ Eyes is a special permanent resident here. She has a really strange and incurable skin disorder, where she breaks out in heaps of keratinaceous cysts of different sizes all over her body. They grow, then they are pushed out like little capsules, and then reform elsewhere. The vets hadn't seen it before, and the proposed treatment wasn't successful. It's weird, but she is otherwise a happy and, uh, voluptuous lady 'lump'. She does not want piggy friends (trust me, I have tried), her cysts can quiet painful so I imagine she is worried about getting hurt. So for the last year or so I've been questioning whether this is what I want to do with my life. Rescue is hard! It's heartbreaking seeing what animals go through. It's infuriating seeing what humans are capable of, and their lack of empathy. It's exhausting having to give my time, my money, my affection - to other people's animals, who deserve the world but have only ever received only a fraction. Sadly though that isn't what made me question my choices...There are a lot of politics in rescue, and THAT is what pushed me to the brink. Who would have thought!! However! Recently I have met many sensational people in rescue who are supportive, helpful, generous and selfless. I have been watching people all over the world coming together for the benefit of the piggies. I have spoken to people whose morals match mine, people who have no time or energy for drama or competition. It's so easy to forget that you have an enormous network of like minded people behind you when someone crushes you. Thank you so much to everyone who donated towards Jaspers costs. I had to rush him to the vets this morning due to some complications, and despite their best efforts Jasper has passed away 😓 The vets went above and beyond for me today and I am so grateful, in my heartache I at least know we did the very best we could. All donations received will help to cover the costs of the emergency procedures. I have had Jasper for 5 years, which absolutely flew by, and so I am very thankful to have had that time with him. Despite his absolutely gorgeous looks, Jasper was the crankiest, scariest pig EVER! He was very sweet and gentle with his piggy girlfriends, but he had no tolerance for his human 😆 Jasper put me in hospital once because I decided to clean their enclosure (how dare I?) and he bit me, and it got horribly infected 🙊 From then on my darling husband had 'Jasper duties' during cage cleaning to keep him happy and distracted from whatever I was doing that was so bad in his eyes. Speaking of, Jasper actually had two different coloured eyes, it was quite beautiful ❤️ As he got older he would simply *grumble grumble* when I took him out for cuddles or gave him a pat. Bless. His cranky grumbles and beautiful face will be sorely missed. Today we very unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our darling Pippa 😓❤️ turns out she was hiding a secret tumour that she didn't want to worry us with, and unfortunately it decided today was the day. Pippa was fortunate enough to have 3 people who love her dearly there with her whilst she crossed over, so hopefully she felt as special as she was to us all. Pippa played such an enormous role in one of our lovely supporters lives, and it has been a pleasure to hear and see just how much a little piggy can impact on a human beings life. Guinea pigs are so underrated and only a fraction of people get to truly experience how wonderful they are ❤️ Sadly Pippa also leaves behind my sweet 8 year old lady Faith. I am very excited to share the news that two of the rescued 4 year old pedigree girls, Ruby and Bella, have been adopted and will be joining Nijel and Peres on their quick flight to North QLD next week!! Adopting out older pigs is so difficult, and whilst the girls had a little bit of interest (because they're beautiful) everyone was a bit put off by their age. So I am very pleased that they'll be going to an experienced home, who will provide them with the very best for their twilight years ❤️ The third girl, Mia, was picked on by the other two, and so she is staying here and has been paired with Faith, who lost her buddy this week. On our wedding day in 2012, I asked the photographer to take a photo of my soul-piggy Bobby and myself, which he kindly did ☺️ When we received the album I found that he had snapped two gorgeous pictures of Banshee too that I was not aware of...look at that inquisitive beautiful face! ❤️ Four and a half years on and right up until this morning, my little (actually, he was a fatty) Banshee was a happy grandpa with just as much charisma...despite having pretty severe cancer. I treasure these photos so much of two enormous personalities who have now passed, both of which were in my life for many years and impacted greatly on my life. RIP Banshee, thanks for lots of joy. Remember Simba? Along with his brother Pumbaa (and a little help from me) they conquered hell - the worst mange and fungal infection I had seen. It took several months to fix them up but since then the boys are the fattest, most relaxed pair of pigs. Isn't it amazing how they trust humans again even when they've been grossly let down? ❤️ Anyway Simba needs to have an abscess removed from his back. It is not life-threatening, and so unfortunately it's a procedure that's on our waiting list because I am sadly not a never-ending supply of money 😔 and 2017 has been unkind to our piggies so far, with cancer, dental problems and osteodystrophy draining me of my available funds. I am just a little person with an average wage, a big heart, and an enormous fear of asking for help. *whispers* I was hoping some of our supporters wouldn't mind helping out with Simba's costs so I can cross this off the list. Doesn't have to be a donation, perhaps you would prefer to purchase some vet bed for your own piggies, or stock up on food and hay?
