Why are there so many bugs???: 1. insects make up almost 80% of all animal life on earth 2. they are relatively easy to study, so there's more bug DNA in the BLAST database.

Okay but why so many MOTHS???: because scientists are not immune to bias. moths are pretty looking and easy to study, so there is more moth DNA in the BLAST database.

Do the punctuation marks/emojis mean anything to BLAST?: no, i just keep them there after my first pass of a text so you can easily recognize i'm using that same text to find an organism.

Can I send in general questions?: yes! but they may get BLASTed.

No. I don't really have the mental capacity to take on requests. What free time I have, I draw art for myself or friends.

Previously I used firefox to just take screenshots from Netflix itself with keyboard short cuts (sniping tool), but literally 2 days before s6 dropped it stopped working on there for me (cue a mild panic tbh). Thus more recently I've been using fireshot as an extension app on google chrome to take screenshots on Netflix

@artists who take commissions, how do I become a great client?

As a first time (and very nervous) commission requester, I’m looking for some tips and tricks from an artist’s perspective to make the process not only easy, but fun for any artist I work with. Of course, I know it can vary from artist to artist, but it’d be nice to see if there are any faux pas as well!

I have a couple of questions too, feel free to reblog and add-on because I think it can help other potential requesters who don’t know where to start!

Finding the right artist – Is it best to only look for a style you like, or is it best to request from someone within your fandom?

Green flags – What’s a good thing to look for as a requester to look for in an artist?

No vibes, just references? – Most artists ask for references, but are pinterest boards, or photos that illustrate ‘vibes’ helpful? Or are those too confusing?

Budgets – Should budgets be mentioned upfront?

Deposits vs. upfront payments – Most artists I’ve seen have requested a full payment upfront, is it considered disrespectful to ask to pay a deposit or partial and then full upon delivery?

Feedback – What’s the best way to provide feedback? Notes directly on the image? Is there a standard for revision rounds, or is it up to each artist?

Tips – Are tips expected? What is the code of conduct, or consensus?

What do you look for in clients/projects?

Was there anything your favourite clients have done that made your experience with them more enjoyable?

hello! as I elaborated on way back in the day (on like day 2 of the blog, lmao), I do not generally consider magical realism to be fantasy as such. here’s what I said at the time:

ALL OF THAT SAID: I admit to feeling a bit more ambivalent now, having since accepted Kafka’s Die Verwandlung / The Metamorphosis (as well as Haïlji’s The Republic of Užupis, which in some ways I think resembles the Boom writers’ magical realism). my four guiding questions for fringe cases between fantasy and realism are:

does the text contain an unequivocally fantastic element (something that, as Samuel Delany puts it, “could not happen” — some sign of magic or the supernatural)?

was the text composed as fantasy or as literary fiction?

for fiction published in the English-speaking world or other areas where there exists a separate fantasy market, is the text published and marketed as fantasy or as literary fiction?

if someone came to me and said they liked (e.g.) N.K. Jemisin, Patricia McKillip, and Charles de Lint, do I feel I could recommend this book to them and expect them to enjoy it on the basis of some similarity to these other authors?

my feeling is that most Boom magical realism is a maybe on question 1 (accounting for the fact that part of the point of the genre is to interrogate the social construction of “reality”) and a solid no on questions 2-4. but if you or anyone else wants to make a strong case for either Cien años de soledad or La casa de los espíritus, I am open to being convinced otherwise!

This is not alter trading, headmate economy, system hopping, or anything of the like. I am taking the requests I receive and making a list of information for the asker to then latch on to and try to firm a member based on. I do not form the member in my system and will not be transferring said member to asker.

This blog is not radqueer, please don't mention being radqueer in your request or your request will not be answered. This blog is pro para and assumes anti contact for anything harmful. Please respect boundaries and do not interact if you are pro contact harmful paraphilias or pro harmful transids (trace, transabled, etc). Now, What exactly does this blog do?

We create headmate packs. These are packs of information that can then be used to try to split a member

Each headmate pack will come with a "letter from the member" as well as an example for what their handwriting will look like. These handwriting examples may be borrowed from the internet.

We also create typical requests media for members we have created. Playlist requests, care package requests, stim/moodboard requests, and more!

We do not engage in a lot of media, so there's a chance we won't know much about the member you are requesting if you chose to go that route. If you request a member based on something previously existing, you give us permission to go as far from canon as we please. You may fix details afterwards.
