Hello!! (Again)
Second drarry fic that i am looking for is post hogwarts, post war. I do not remember what Harry was doing, however i know that Draco owned a shop (i think harry owned/bought the one next door). Draco did something that i think had to do with knitting (or it was weaving magick?) Either way the two ended up in a small squabble and Harry got the pair of them magickally bound/teathered together. I know their wands were involved and that the pair could not be separated as in doing so caused pain. The fic i know i read on Ao3 but it was quite spme time ago, and it was a bit of a longer one (over 5k words, probably closer to 10k)
🫶 thank you for helping me search!

Hi!! Loving all the Johanna fics you’ve been putting out! I was wondering if you could write Johanna mason x fem!reader where the reader gets caught in the jabberjay section of the quarter quell with Katniss and Finnick and hears Johanna’s cries. Afterwards they meet Johanna on the beach after the blood rain and reader is super distressed and thinks what she’s seeing is a trick.
(I know they are already with Johanna at this point but just for the sake of this they meet Johanna, Beetee, and Wires when they come out of the blood rain after the jabberjays.)
Thanks :)
hey! sorry this took so long, i have been struggling with writers block so bad recently 💔
This Love
Johanna Mason x Fem!Odair!Reader
warnings: very poorly written, rushed, probably ooc Katniss and Johanna, not proofread
word count: 1475
a/n: sorry if it's poorly written and soo late, i had an idea but no clue how to put it into words:(
a/n pt2: i tried posting this last night but i fell asleep, thinking i posted it and didn't realize it wasn't posted until i went to start another request..
--
your breathing is heavy as you trek across the sand of the beach. the sun is beating down on you and you’re covered in scrapes and cuts from the mutt attack.
while your brother and the District 12 tributes are talking to each other some distance behind you, you find yourself lost in your thoughts as you wander along the beach.
suddenly, a scream pierces through the air, causing you to jump and spin around to see if the others had heard it. however, they appear to be oblivious to the sound and continue their discussion.
you take in a shaky breath, but then the scream echoes again, and this time you recognize the voice.
"Johanna?" you gasp, staring wide-eyed into the dense jungle. "JOHANNA?!" you scream as you run towards it, pushing aside hanging leaves and jumping over tree roots.
"Y/N!" you hear Finnick call after you, but you can't bring yourself to care, not when your Johanna needs you.
you run with all your might until you reach a small clearing. the cries for help seem to echo around you, making your head spin. "Johanna?!" you call out, your voice loud, strained, and filled with raw emotions. "where are you?"
the cries for help blend into agonizing screams that send shivers down your spine.
tears begin to well up in your eyes as you frantically spin around, desperately searching for the source of the sound. "Johanna! Johanna, please!" you cry out. "where are you?!"
suddenly, a black bird swoops down near your head, calling out, "help! y/n!" your head jerks towards it, eyes widening as you notice the swarm of birds circling above you.
"no," you whisper, watching in horror as the bird continues to dive all around you.
in a panic, you turn on your heel and sprint back in the direction you came from. through the foliage of the trees, you can see the others, including Finnick, waving their arms and shouting, but their words are seemingly drowned out by the chaos.
you race towards your brother, the birds relentlessly chasing and circling you. all you can hear is Finnick and Johanna's desperate cries for help. tears stream down your cheeks as you finally reach your brother, only to be separated by an invisible wall.
"Finnick!" you cry out, pounding your fists against the barrier. "Finnick, help!" your voice trembles with pain, and you struggle to articulate your words as the birds continue their relentless assault.
overwhelmed, you sink to the ground, curling your hands around your head as you hide your face and cover your ears. leaning against the force field, you sob uncontrollably, feeling the weight of the situation.
after what feels like an eternity, the birds eventually fly away, and the force field dissipates.
your group rushes towards you, and Finnick immediately pulls you into a tight embrace, cupping your cheeks as you gaze at him with a distant expression.
“it’s okay, y/n/n, it was just jabberjays.” he murmurs, gently brushing your bangs away from your sweaty forehead.
you stay silent as he fusses over you, with Katniss crouched beside you, her hand soothingly placed on your back, and Peeta standing next to her.
"i'm okay," you eventually mutter, pushing away from the hands on you and standing up.
Finnick frowns at you, but before he can say anything, Katniss speaks up, "we should go back to the beach, where it's safe," she says softly, speaking cautiously, as if you were a child.
you say nothing as you make your way back to the sand of the beach, feeling relieved to be out of the jungle once again.
you settle yourself on the sand near the water's edge, with Katniss sitting beside you and Peeta staying close to her side. Finnick stands behind all of you, taking in his surroundings.
suddenly, you hear your brother suck in a sharp breath, "Johanna!" he shouts before sprinting down the beach. you flinch at the sound of the name, your head snapping up as you watch your brother run.
"Finnick!" you hear a voice calls back, a voice whose screams have been forcefully etched into your mind for the past hour.
Katniss turns to look at you as she stands, extending her hand towards you, "you coming?" she asks, her voice low and comforting.
you eventually nod, gripping her hand and allowing her to help you up.
the three of you follow behind Finnick, making your way towards the other three. as you look at Johanna, you notice how she is covered in blood, and suddenly nothing else matters. your thoughts consume you once again, 'Johanna needed you and you couldn't help her. she's hurt and it's all your fault.' your mind races as you continue to stare at the blood soaked brunette.
Katniss notices your distant look, and she takes your hand in hers, dipping her head and turning to meet your gaze as you still fixate on the other girl.
Johanna looks over Finnick's shoulder, locking eyes with you. her brows furrow in confusion at the look on your face. "y/n?" she calls out, her voice filled with concern, while she starts making her way toward you. your eyes widen in response to hearing your name escape her lips, and you find yourself staring back at her like a deer in headlights.
Finnick places his hand on her shoulder, causing her head to snap towards him. "what's going on with her?" she inquires, pulling away from the bronze-haired boy.
"there was an incident," he explains, "with jabberjays. she, uh.. she got lured into the jungle by jabberjays that were mimicking you."
"me?" Johanna breathes, glancing over at you. her expression changes as she watches Katniss squeeze your hand, speaking to you gently.
"yeah, she hasn't said much since we got her out.. she was in there for a while," Finnick mumbles. "you should talk to her, let her know that you're okay and stuff."
"looks like she has Katniss for that," Johanna grumbles, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms.
Finnick raises an eyebrow at the brunette. “go talk to her, i’ll take Katniss and the others down the beach further.”
Johanna lets out a deep sigh, nodding in agreement. Finnick pats her on the shoulder before motioning for Katniss and Peeta to join them. Peeta rushes over to your brother like an eager puppy being called by his master. meanwhile, Katniss slowly makes her way over, providing you with a few more words of reassurance before finally joining the group.
"hey," Johanna says as she approaches you. you continue to stare at her in silence, which seems to make her slightly uncomfortable. "hey," she gently cups your jaw, redirecting your attention from her bloodied shoulders to her eyes. "talk to me," she mumbles as she holds eye contact with you.
"i'm sorry i couldn't help you," you finally manage to say after a period of silence. tears well up in your eyes again as your lower lip quivers. "i'm sorry," you repeat.
Johanna's eyebrows furrow with confusion. "hey, what? don't be sorry. why’re you apologizing?"
"i couldn't help you," you mumble. "i- i couldn't find you. it was so loud. i'm sorry." tears stream down your cheeks as you speak, your voice coming out raspy but soft.
"y/n, listen to me, you did absolutely nothing wrong," she assures you, her voice filled with sincerity. "what you heard wasn't me, it was just a trick. it wasn't me." her other hand gently comes up to cup your other cheek, holding your face tenderly as she gazes into your eyes.
you swallow hard, holding unwavering eye contact with her. "i-" your words are abruptly cut off as Johanna ducks down and presses her soft lips against yours.
"i’m safe," she whispers, her lips barely grazing against yours. "i’m safe." she reaffirms her words with another kiss, deepening the connection between the both of you.
you instinctively wrap your arms around her neck, your fingers intertwining in her hair as you return the kiss.
you reluctantly break the kiss upon hearing your brother's wolf whistle. Johanna rolls her eyes playfully at him, turning in your embrace to give him an exaggerated middle finger. "fuck you, fish boy!" she exclaims, a grin on her face.
your brother dramatically gasps, his hand clutching his chest in mock offense. "wow! you call me fish boy after sucking face with my sister?"
your cheeks flush with color at his choice of words, but Johanna simply scoffs at him before turning her attention back to you, that same teasing grin still present on her face. she firmly grasps your waist before pulling you into another kiss, more passionate than the last. your fingers gently thread through her hair as you savor the moment.

It was a beautiful summer morning: the sky was a perfect shade of blue and completely cloudless, lit brightly by the sun that was just barely starting to peer over the treetops dotting the outskirts of town; the air was cool but not cold, with a light breeze that just barely tickled your calves and messed with your hair as you hurriedly got into your athletic wear; it was so early that few of your neighbours were out and about, only really Howdy and Eddie who were working, which gave you ample opportunity to set up your equipment in your garden and get some stuff done in the great outdoors. Pleasantly bright, pleasantly cool and pleasantly perfect for a morning aerobics session.
It had been too long since you’d last watched a Jacki Sorensen tape and you were missing the early morning motivation boost that her chipper voice always provided. Well, that and the rewarding burn of your muscles after she was done with you and you’d been sent through the metaphorical ringer. And Howdy had just gotten in that new VHS tape you’d been shopping about for and now seemed just about the perfect time to make good use of it.
So, with renewed vigour and motivation, you dragged your television and stand over to your doorway and popped the tape in — praying to whatever high powers you could think of that you hadn’t busted the wire and ruined your chances of a good workout. But thankfully — thankfully, indeed — your small screen managed to make it out of the move unscathed and you watched the picture crackle and shake to life, that familiar voice ringing out clear as anything despite the staticky undertone of your speakers.
And with that you were finally back in business, carefully repositioning your legs and arms to match the instructions given to you by the recording.
————
Before long you were completely in the zone, humming merrily along with the jazzy background music and contorting your body as best you could. Arm thrusts, spins, lunges, stretches and slides, clapping your hands in fine with the beat and just having a wonderful time in your own head whilst just about registering the encouragement and directions given to you by your recorded instructor.
Though you were eventually broken out of your blissful state of peace by a sound that made your heart drop. Laughter. Giggles and snorts and stifled coughs that were anything but emanating from around you — and when you opened your eyes to take a look around you were hit with just how much of an audience you had amassed.
You felt exposed, vulnerable, judged. Wanted to do nothing more than to curl up into a ball and let the earth swallow you hole rather than face the mortification of being seen that was creeping it’s way up your throat. That was seizing your heart in its fist and drying your mouth and stealing your tongue with its sharp teeth and sharper remarks that burned themselves into your brain.
‘You look like a fool’
‘So stupid’
‘They’re judging you’
‘They hate you’
‘They’re never going to let you forget’
‘Idiot’
‘Fool’
‘Jester’
Your face was on fire, your feet rooted in place, your spine doused in ice and all you could do was stand and pray for it all to stop. To will the laughter away alongside the tears that so painfully burned the back of your throat and the corners of your eyes as they threatened to spill over and embarrass you even further. This was hell and you just wanted it all to end. For them to go away and leave you alone.
Go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away, go away —
All of a sudden you were snapped out of your self-loathing stupor by a gentle hand on your elbow and an even gentler voice calling out to you.
‘Hey, neighbour,’ your friend called out, ‘you seem like you’re having fun,’ the notion alone made you want to laugh and cry — to scream out to the contrary, but his next words gave you pause, ‘can I join you?’
You didn’t quite know what to say to that, only able to stare in stunned silence as he gave you that same old smile. Kind eyes that seemed wider and darker than ever, an outstretched hand that looked so very inviting, and the familiar curl of his dark blue hair. Wally always was a peculiar fella, and you knew he’d never been anything short of genuine with you, so with great reluctance you swallowed your fears and took his hand.
That shaky and uncertain ‘Sure,’ was all it took for him to take you for a spin — something you were in dire need of.
————
In the blink of an eye you were spun into something adjacent to a waltz, both of you clumsily stumbling over your feet as you were twirled and spun and dipped and danced across the length of your garden. For his own part, Wally was humming something vaguely off-key and trying his damnedest to match the style he was emulating beat-by-beat — but his own inexperience and your startled demeanour did little to help this endeavour. But, still, in spite of it all he’d managed to make you laugh as you snorted and giggled and guffawed your way through this improvised routine — trainers stepping on dress shoes and blue hair catching in your mouth as you desperately tried not to trip.
Uncertain and clumsy and a complete mess, but loving every second of it because you were in more than excellent company. Lightheaded from hearty laughter and dizzy from catching sight of his colourful striped trousers in the corner of your eye, but content and happy and delightfully out of breath.
So very caught up in the moment that you almost didn’t notice your neighbours joining in on your impromptu dance party. And what a party it was: Wally and yourself laughing through what you’d dubbed an almost-waltz; Julie and Sally twisting (with the taller of the two’s colourful skirts going every which way) and occasionally getting twirled and spun and picked up by a very cheerful Poppy; Eddie and Frank trying to stick to the salsa form, with the former stumbling over his own feet and the latter leading the dance; Barnaby doing the ‘mashed potato’ to a beat only he could hear and Howdy doing his own thing by tapping his fingers and feet to the song on your television. Completely chaotic and yet entirely expected — leaving the lot of you completely out of breath after a good ten minutes.
Eventually all of you ended up laying on the grass — some having fallen and taken down victims with them (read: Eddie pulling his boyfriend and best friend in law to the ground after a particularly disastrous dip) and others having laid down for a break. Wally and yourself had all but collapsed to the floor side by side, each of you utterly out of breath and aching, yet still bearing broad smiles on your faces.
‘I can’t believe we didn’t do this sooner,’ someone says (but you don’t have the energy to turn your head and see who). Several mutters of agreement followed before someone else spoke up — Julie, who was laying just to your right — followed almost immediately by Wally.
‘I’m sorry for laughing earlier, you just looked like you were having so much fun and I thought it was adorable!’
‘You did look very cute, neighbour,’
A few more comments followed, all of them complimentary — and you felt a bit silly for having judged your neighbours so harshly. They were all so very kind and sweet, they were just too busy or tired to join in properly and were just admiring how silly and cute you look when you’re focused. You felt your skin heat with a mixture of embarrassment and guilt as you thanked them, before turning to your friend and giving him a chaste peck on the cheek as thanks.
‘Thanks for joining me, Wally; you’re the absolute most,’
Leaving moments later to take Barnaby and Howdy up on their offer to help you take your stuff back inside. Not getting the chance to see your friend freeze and gingerly touch the spot you’d kissed — in such a state that if he were more than just felt, you’d see hearts in his eyes and a lovestruck grin on his face, but he wasn’t so nobody noticed anything as they all got up to leave. His secret was safe for another day.

"One of the few letters to survive from (Jane Seymour)’s tenure as queen is an intercessory plea. On 23 November 1536, Jane wrote to Cromwell, asking him to be “good and favourable unto our trusty and wellbeloved Thomas Dudeley,” telling him that “you cannot do a better deed for the increase of your eternal reward in the world to come.” This Thomas Dudley has not been conclusively identified, and his service to the Queen remains unknown, but he might be the Thomas Dudley of Yanwath (c.1475–1549), whose son, John Dudley, would be an MP for Carlisle in 1553, and Helston in 1563. While Jane did not elaborate on the kind of ‘favour’ she envisioned Dudley receiving, the request stirred Cromwell into action, and on 18 May 1537, Dudley was granted a house in Aldgate, London, which was formerly part of Christchurch priory, and was worth thirteen shillings, four pence a year. Of these three acts of intercession, only the one on behalf of Dudley was successful, but by actively participating in one of the central roles of a queen consort, Jane was enhancing her saintly image—even if her husband sought to dissuade her."

The first mention of [the St Erasmus chapel at Westminster] comes in a grant issued by Edward IV to the abbey on 13 January 1479 of portions of two manors in Worcestershire [...] The king granted the manors to Elizabeth Woodville on 10 February 1474. Five years later, at the request of the queen, Edward granted the manors to Westminster Abbey in order to fund the chantry she had established there ‘in a chapel of St Erasmus newly built by the queen, annexed to the chapel of St Mary of the monastery, for the good estate of the king and queen and for their souls after death’, and for those of their children. Income from the estates would support two monks to celebrate mass there daily, with the charter setting out the queen’s liturgical instructions. A previously unnoticed, fragmentary draft of the charter also survives, compiled at some unspecified date before 13 January 1479. It provides a slightly different witness to Elizabeth’s intentions. While the final version specifies placebos and diriges to be sung by the monks on the anniversaries of the eventual deaths of the king and queen around ‘le herse’, the draft more specifically states they are to take place ‘around the tomb of our consort if she is buried there’. This suggests that at this date it might still have been Elizabeth’s intention to be buried at Westminster. This is curious, because Edward himself had made clear as early as 1475 that he wished to be buried at Windsor. He was by then already spending lavishly on its reconstruction to accommodate this. In due course Elizabeth’s body did follow Edward’s to Windsor, but as so often, the final location of a royal burial was a matter of prolonged deliberation (and often contention).

Niko's Bio
"Would you like to talk over a couple of drinks? I make a bloody amazing cocktail, or mocktail if you prefer something non-alcoholic."
More details on Niko is under the cut
Name: Milovan "Niko" Nikolić
Age: 547
Height: 175 cm
Birthday: 8 Primna 1475 (Alfabr)
Orientation: Achillean Demiboy
Pronouns: He/They
Species: Vampire (formerly human)
Country of Birth: Višoleka
Likes: Autumn, teddy bears, rain, silver (the colour), food in spout pouches
Dislikes: Summer, winter, silver (the metal), nickel
Hobbies: Stargazing, playing chess, mixology
Personality: Has affable politeness that's able to make everyone feel welcomed, possesses an observant eye along with a preference for organisation
Style: Tends to dress in the same smart casual style as elderly men, wears accessories made of platinum due to his silver allergy
Abilities: Able to turn others into vampires, manipulate objects using telekinesis, also has enhanced senses, speed, and strength as well as able to disintegrate objects via touch, and fairly proficient in wielding guns. Is personally weakened by silver due to allergy
Background: Prior to becoming a vampire, Milovan worked at a inn that was considered inclusive towards all species. Seeing beings coming from all walks of life fascinated him, and they enjoyed working at the tavern
When he was 28, rumours of vampires that went around turning others by force surfaced in Višoleka. This stirred alarm amongst the community, as due to the relative harmony in the country, such an act was extremely unheard of
Initially, the inn Milovan worked at remained inclusive. However, as news of beings being turned into vampires became more common, the inn decided to place silver items, something that vampires avoid, throughout the establishment despite Milovan's protests
As a result of the divide, this caused tensions between vampires and everyone else to flare. Despite this, Višoleka remained fairly safe as most vampires respected this opinion and chose to not engage with everyone else until they have rooted out the vampires that turned others by force
However, due to Milovan's then-unknown silver allergy, it resulted in his skin blistering upon contact with the silver items. This resulted in the non-vampires accusing Milovan of being a vampire, and immediately staked them three weeks after he fled for his life
He was saved by a vampire who turned him into a vampire at the last minute, and lived with her for three centuries. Afterwards, they found an abandoned castle and made it their home, though he had trouble earning money as he didn't wish to turn to stealing
When Milovan was 383 years old, Noah arrived at his doorstep requesting for shelter. The vampire, while reluctant to take in the wyvern due to low funds, felt bad for him given that he was considered a traitor by the Unois Empire for going AWOL, and allowed him to live in the castle
News of West Balwirk's declaration of war on the Unois Empire along with whispers of an internal conflict in the Unois Empire reached Višoleka. Milovan wasn't sure how he should inquire upon Noah's thoughts towards current events, but decided to gently ask the wyvern. Instead, he was greeted by an empty castle and a letter from Noah explaining that he had to return to Relnivon
The vampire then continued to live their days as per usual, with Hana visiting him a few years after the Unois Empire collapsed. She explained that both she and Jackson wanted to run a hotel with the main focus being inclusivity towards all species, and hoped that Milovan could assist them in raising funds for the hotel's construction
When asked why him of all beings, the dullahan explained that Noah had recommended him due to him living in the castle, it implied that he had money to spare. Taken aback by the wyvern's reasoning, Milovan had to explain that the castle they lived in was previously abandoned and that had he not been turned into a vampire, they would've been long dead
Nonetheless, the vampire agreed to try selling the castle back to Višoleka's government in exchange for a job position at the hotel once it was ready. Hana agreed, and was promised the role as the hotel's bar manager
He was surprised to discover that the government assumed that they owned the castle to begin with, and didn't correct them. While he had sufficient money to help Hana and Jackson buy some land in Wulfenz, it wasn't enough for construction work
While Hana suggested graverobbing, with Jackson adding that they could ask Ilias to turn rocks into gold bars if Milovan didn't like the dullahan's idea, the vampire rejected both ideas and proposed to get a loan from the Wulfenzian bank instead
The bank loan was successful, which relieved the vampire as he was afraid that Hana's and Jackson's questionable morals would lead to trouble. Once the hotel was ready for business in 1886, Milovan was given the position as the hotel's bar manager as promised by the dullahan

#1100 Does the Vatican have a secret library?
Does the Vatican have a secret library? No. The Vatican doesn’t have a secret library. There are some sections that are restricted, and there are some recent records that are off limits, but no more than many other government libraries and there are certainly some governments that are much more secretive. The Vatican library is enormous. That isn’t really surprising considering that the Roman Catholic church has a history going back over 1500 years. The library has only existed in its present location since 1475, but the Catholic church has owned a library and book collections for much longer than that. The books were kept in many locations, but the center of the church has always been Rome and it made sense to keep all of the books there. It is said to be one of the oldest libraries in the world and it has manuscripts and scrolls going back to the 4th century. The oldest book it has is the Codex Vaticanus, which is a Christian copy of a Greek bible that has been dated to about 325 AD. The library contains over 1.5 million books and manuscripts. 8.600 books that were printed before 1500. It has coins, works of art, antiquities, and a whole range of other things. There are over 100,000 letters from the first half of the 14th century alone! The library is estimated to have over 85 km of shelving! So, is there a secret library? There is a section called the Vatican Apostolic Archive, which has been called the Vatican Secret Archive, but secret doesn’t mean what we think it means. Thanks to Dan Brown and his books, we assume that the Vatican are hiding things from us, but the library is private more than secret. The word “secretum” in Latin means private. It basically contains state papers, correspondence, accounts, and other documents that pertain to the running of the state. However, this section is most certainly not secret and any scholar can view the documents if they like. It is not easy to get permission to go in, but it is not impossible. You need to have a letter of recommendation from a university or a research institution, or a recognized scholar. Then you have to undergo an interview to make sure you are who you say you are and your reasons are true. If you are successful, the Vatican will write to you with permission and the date you can attend. Once you are inside, there are pretty strict rules as well. You are not allowed ink pens or photography equipment. You must wear gloves and the books you have requested are brought to you. You can only request up to five books a day. All of this doesn’t make the archives secret, it just means that the Vatican are doing what they can to protect their collection of ancient books. You would get exactly the same treatment and have to go through the same steps if you requested to see an ancient book in the Bodleian Library in Oxford. There are still some documents that are restricted. The Vatican archives were first opened up in 1881 when Pope Leo XIII was persuaded to open them up to historians. People started to study the documents in depth. Before this, the documents hadn’t really been secret, more restricted. Also, there wasn’t a huge amount of interest in them until probably the end of the 18th century. The study of history was not a common pastime until probably the time of the Industrial Revolution. In 1979 a historian called Carlo Ginzburg requested access to all of the archives of the Roman Inquisition, which was granted. Since then, when somebody wants to see a document, they are generally granted access. The documents that are still restricted are any correspondence or documents related to the current state and pope. Documents are made public 75 years after the end of a pope’s reign, which almost always means their death. This can be waived by other popes and sometimes is. The Vatican Library is a candy shop for historians. When we study history at school, we learn about numerous important events that changed the course of history and many of the documents connected to these events are kept in the Vatican Library! Henry VIII’s request for a marriage annulment, which led to the foundation of the Church of England. The records of the trial of Galileo and the trials of the Knights Templar. The papal bull excommunicating Martin Luther. Correspondence with historical figures, such as Napoleon, and various monarchs. And so many other things that would fascinate any historian. But none of them are secret. And this is what I learned today. Day 1846 – Offa’s Dyke Chirk to Llandegla
Day 1846 was the start of my next station to station walk. This was the final three legs of the Offa’s Dyke path along the England and Wales border this time from Chirk to Prestatyn. Again I was joined by my friend R who, as a Welsh speaker, was in charge of translating. Unnecessary really, because just about everyone we met turned out to be from Manchester or Liverpool!
We took a taxi the two miles or so from Chirk to where we left Offa’s Dyke path on Day 1691. Remember rule 1 from Day 1475 (not one extra metre) when we started the Offa’s Dyke path and that was not a rule I had any desire to break.
Unfortunately, having found our starting point, I also found I had no mobile phone reception and had omitted to download the route to my Ordnance Survey app. I’ve survived many years walking without an app but now we’d be walking without an app or a map until we found some mobile reception. In theory this should be fine as we just had to follow the acorn markers. However our previous experience of Offa’s Dyke was that it was poorly waymarked in places and so getting lost was a distinct possibility. This was not the relaxing start I had hoped for. My stress levels then increased when rounded a hill and found ourselves heading directly toward the distinctive Cadbury’s chocolate factory in Chirk.
“It shouldn’t be there,” I exclaimed. “We should be walking away from the chocolate factory. Not towards it”. The path did turn but the chocolate factory seemed to be keeping pace with us. I was convinced we were lost even when we came across a re-assuring acorn.
After an hour or so we reached the beautiful Llangollen Canal and final I had some mobile reception and was able to download a map and our route and start to relax. My relaxing was brought to a swift end when we reached the magnificent Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. There is actually a choice of routes here. One can either descend to the valley for a view of the aqueduct or walk across it. As we did not want to waste any unnecessary energy descending to and ascending from the valley (rule [1 again), we chose to walk across.
I had no idea it would be that scary. Whilst I’m fine with the heights of hills and mountains, I am terrified of heights on structures. We set off on the tow path across the aqueduct adjacent to a boat that was crossing at the same time. I felt sick even though their was a railing to stop me falling into the valley below. What then totally freaked me out as we walked ahead of the boat was that on the other side of the 7 foot wide aqueduct canal there is nothing, absolutely nothing to prevent a fall. Accordingly, if you are steering a boat you are stood literally on the edge of oblivion. Indeed I felt I was standing on the edge of oblivion and I had seven feet of canal water between me and the far edge. I dropped my pace so that the canal boat would pull along side to create a barrier between me and the valley below.
The people on the boat looked at me and asked if I was alright as I looked rather scared. I noticed that they had wine on board and asked if I could have some to steady my nerves. Unfortunately they were German and so my request was somewhat lost in translation and they merrily poured themselves some more wine! Once we’d crossed, sadly were no open pubs, so I had to pop into a shop for a pacifying can of Fanta!
After the “thrills” of the aqueduct the Offa’s Dyke path now follows a quiet road for around three miles. Despite being a road, the views were amazing, particularly of the ruined medieval castle, Castell Dinas Brân, perched high on a hill.
Once off the road the spectacular landscape continued around the Eglwyseg Mountain, a surprising route given the tendency for Offa to build his dyke right over the highest, steepest mountains and hills. After Eglwyseg Mountain, the weather became greyer as we had a long haul over some bleak moorland before descending through a forest into the village of Llandegla.
Unlike the southern and mid-Wales sections of Offa’s Dyke, there is absolutely no accommodation along this northern section. Hence we had arranged for a taxi to pick us up and take us to the fantastic Raven Inn in Llanarmon-yn-Ial, a community pub run by the local community for the local community and occasional visitors who are made to feel most welcome.

How to use mysql.connection db pool with python flask
I'm using flask 10.1 with mysql 5.6. I'd like to have a connection pool where individual requests can grab connections and insert data in parallel. The code I think should work is this:
# !flask/bin/pythonfrom flask import Flask, jsonify, abort, make_response, request, gimport mysql.connectorapp = Flask(__name__)db_user = "user"db_pass = "pass"db_url = "127.0.0.1"@app.before_first_requestdef before_first_request(): # configure the connection pool in the global object g.cnx_pool = mysql.connector.pooling.MySQLConnectionPool(pool_name="name", pool_size=10, autocommit=True, user=db_user, password=db_pass, host=db_url, database='db')@app.route('/log', methods=['POST'])def log_data(): """ Logs data """ cursor = g.cnx_pool.get_connection().cursor() query = """INSERT INTO db.data (time,data) values (NOW(),%s)""" cursor.execute(query, (request.get_data(),)) return make_response('', 200)if __name__ == '__main__': app.run(debug=True)
But, the global connection pool object that I am storing in g seems to be being cleaned up. E.g. when I invoke the rest end point I see:

so did edward iv and elizabeth wydeville want to be buried together or not?
Hi!
Edward IV wished to be buried in his St. George chapel as early as 1475 and requested for a single tomb, which was the norm at the time and was iirc used by both Henry V and Henry VI. As queen and mother of the heir, Elizabeth may have been expected to be buried at St. George as well; however, she seems to have initially wished to be eventually buried in her own St. Erasmus chapel in Westminster Abbey which she had recently built, and which she seems to have regarded as a royal burial site in its own right. We have a draft of a charter that Edward granted to Westminster Abbey, which states that placebos and diriges were to be sung on the anniversaries of his and Elizabeth's deaths "around the tomb of our consort if she is buried there". So it seems that Elizabeth considered being buried on her own at Westminster at this time.
However, while instructions for Elizabeth's potential solo reburial at Westminster appear in the draft, they don’t appear in the final charter, issued on 13 January 1479. It seems that Elizabeth may have changed her mind by then.
Moreover, Elizabeth’s own will in 1492 explicitly states that:
"I bequeith my body to be buried with the bodie of my Lord at Windessore, according to the will of my saide Lorde and myne."
So it seems as though both Edward and Elizabeth wished and decided to be buried together, which is what eventually happened after she died. Considering the difference between the draft and final version in 1479, I speculate they may have discussed and decided it together during that time, or perhaps during the few years after.
Hope this helps!
#ask#edward iv#elizabeth woodville#it's worth remembering that Edward IV's tomb was unfinished at the time of his death#neither the upper effigy nor the cadaver was completed and the tomb remained unmarked#so if there were any (now lost) instructions for it to be expanded they are unlikely to have been implemented#they may have been part of the 'codicils' he added to his 1483 will (most people just assume those were related to his son's minority#but the truth is that there's no evidence of this and at any rate he added codicils - aka plural - not just a single one)#or they may have discussed it informally with each other#we don't know 🤷🏻♀️

tbh, while it's certainly possible that Edward IV wanted Richard III to be the Lord Protector of the realm, I personally think that the claim should be questioned far more than it is.
The first reason is that it's Richard who claimed it. The same person who arrested Anthony Woodville and Richard Gray and claimed they had a conspiracy against him, that the Woodvilles stole the treasury, that they were plotting against the king, that Elizabeth Woodville was a witch, brought up claims that Edward IV was a bastard, and that Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville's marriage was invalid. All of which are highly dubious or outright nonsense, and part of the immense propaganda Richard waged upon his opposition during his time in power.
Considering the fact that the edited will hasn't survived (and the 1475 one conveniently has) and the fact that we don't even know what the extra codicil was ... I think that Richard claiming his brother named him Lord Protector should, analytically speaking, be seen as rather questionable given his long list of other dubious claims at that time? And that it would be highly convenient for Richard if it was true, just like the sudden discovery of his brother's supposedly invalid marriage. I think it's quite strange that so many people, generally Ricardians, view it as an undoubted fact (and it's written that way on Wikipedia as well RIP)
I think it's also strange because obviously Edward's 1475 will can't be compared to an edited will years lated made before his immediate death, the fact remains that Edward didn't even name Richard (or George) in that will. While things must have obviously changed and he favored Richard greatly towards the end of his life, he showed Richard favor before 1475 as well. It's possible that he decided he wanted Richard to be Protector due to his loyal and admirable performance in Scotland and so a strong hand govern the realm until his son was ready...and it's also very likely that, understandably expected Richard to show the same loyalty that he had shown him to his son, help him govern, and work together with the Woodvilles, without any formal position of the kind. Especially considering the sheer amount if power and influence Richard had already been given. And of course, I think it's quite strange for Edward IV to want his toddler son to rule and be governed by a council in 1475, but somehow wanted his 12-year old son to have a Lord Protector who wouldn't really last for more than 4-5 years max anyway.
Nor did the Croyland Chronicle state or even imply that Edward's will was dismissed or disregarded by the council or the Woodvilles - it seemed to imply the opposite, in fact, and praised Elizabeth Woodville during the council. (I also feel like, if a lord Protector HAD been named, it's an extremely important bit of information that should have been mentioned somewhere? The only mention of it seemed to have come from Richard's claims)
(And even in the hypothetical situation that Edward IV DID want Richard as Protector... I really don't think he would have wanted him to target, exclude and antagonist his wife and his in laws the way he did? To say nothing of Richard's actions afterwards. Or the fact that, like you mentioned, Edward's wishes didn't really apply once he was dead unless it was for sentiment or image politics. And the council seemed pretty clear on the fact that they wanted Edward V to be crowned)
Hi! Yeah, it really makes one wonder, though I suppose the Croyland continuator did say they invested him temporarily as Lord Protector (or acquiesced to his request) and I think most of them would have seen Edward's last will. Now, their acquiescence doesn't necessarily mean Edward IV really did name his brother protector, maybe it could be something more dubious that Richard interpreted in that way but not everyone agreed with his interpretation? For some reason, they agreed to make him lord protector even if for a short time, and I don't think he threatened the whole council for that or else the continuator would likely have remarked on that fact.
Like I said in my previous ask, I don't think it's out of character for 1482-1483 Edward IV to have done that considering he had just given his brother a palatinate in Cumberland, that is, a territory where Richard could rule over without being subjected to anyone's meddling, a true quasi-regal position, plus any lands he could conquer in Scotland—it's huge: those lands wouldn't go to the Crown but rather to Richard's pockets. I consider that to be a big mark of favouritism, whatever the reason. So that’s why I don’t particularly doubt that claim, but as many historians have pointed out, we can’t consider it to have been 100% true as we have no factual evidence that Edward really did name him.
EDIT: There’s also that letter Edward IV wrote to Pope Sixtus IV in August 1482, where he said: ‘Thank God, the giver of all good gifts, for the support received from our most loving brother, whose success is so proven that he alone would suffice to chastise the whole kingdom of Scotland’. In my view, it feels like Edward really held his brother in very high steem by that time, and if he thought his brother could tackle Scotland alone it might not be completely unexpected if he thought Richard could safeguard his son’s succession as lord protector too.
#which is really tragic if you think about it#this man really seemed to trust his brother#ask#anon#sorry i can't elaborate more for now#edward iv
