There is something really compelling when a painting works, when the brush marks fall into place, when every touch is the right one. Conversely when the painting is not right when marks have not found their correct position when the momentum and excitement had led you astray, it get under your skin, niggles at you like an itch you can't scratch. One hour may not seem like very much time But if one is very focused, prepares the space, lays out some fresh colour then it might be all you need to set the thing right, to realign, redraw and rethink. As I ponder the use of time I am also brought to the strark conclusion (as I continue with my assessments) that some of my students have been really good at using their time, have carried out the balancing act of work, making, printing, research, writing and some have no idea how to use time at all and one wonders what they have been doing with their time. It's funny how a chance meeting can lead to an unexpected opportunity. Just over a month ago we went over to McBeans for the first time and met Rose, Tom and some of the team. Two weeks ago I was asked If I knew anybody that could exhibit their work in the gallery space there during the Lewes Arts Festival. With limited time and a bit of help from Paul the Farmer I have dived in and decided to show my Sussex Landscapes. I went over today and have hung the show. There's lots to see, as well as large paintings I also have small paintings and pastels too. I will be using Mc Beans like a studio space on some of the Saturdays and have to chance to rework some of the larger work. The Festival begins next weekend 11-26th of Sept. Loads to see in and around the area and you might want to come over, say hello, enyoy the amazing Orchids, the space and the Pizza oven. Very pleased with hang.
