zhongli, predictably, brings back a dog. before you ask, it’s a very normal dog that isn’t the size of a mountain and is unable to control the elements. it’s a common house pet, a sign of luck and auspiciousness, plus he’s a very good boy!

………. just. don’t coddle rex jr. too much, okay? rex sr. is still a half-dragon after all.

al haitham brings back a pot of some rare plant he got at the grand bazaar... what? plants are pets too. an even better version, he argues, especially since this particular one should bear small edible fruits when they grow enough. plus, they’re quiet and will let him read in peace.

hey, it’s your fault for never specifying what kind of pet you wanted him to get.

childe brings back an otter. where did he get it? no one knows. don’t ask. where will he put it? uhhh. no worries, he’ll put the otter in your bathtub for now, but he’ll commission someone to dig up a pool for them to float around! it’ll be fineeee!

tighnari sits you down and lectures you about the responsibilities of a pet owner for two straight hours to make sure you truly understand what you’re asking of him first. adopting a pet is a huge step in your life and he wants to make sure you fully understand what you’re getting into.

plus, you might want to take into consideration that your fox hybrid lover inherits that territorial behavior from his ancestors…?

kaveh jumps at the opportunity. to him, that’s like you’re giving him the green light on bringing animals home. a mistake on your part, honestly.

it’s day three and you’re now housing: an unexpectedly tame dendro slime with a withered flower on its head, two very weakened and starving desert foxes, one forest fox with one eye, and a little bird with a broken wing.

I'm not on bird app, and TikTok is geoblocked here, so I don't usually get too deep into fandom drama, nor am I interested in it. Unfortunately, it seems like the drama is spilling over here, and it has me questioning my reading comprehension for the past few days honestly. So here goes nothing, if you don't want to read about fandom discourse (which I recommend, for your own mental health), feel free to ignore this post. I just feel like I'm going insane so I need to get it off my chest.

From what I've read here, someone on bird app demanded Lou to explain some racist/misogynist memes he posted on insta over a decade ago, which were still on his page until very recently. Lou replied with this screenshot:

I've heard rumors of a certain subsection of the fandom impersonating bucktommy fans in order to stir up controversies. Again, I'm not on those sites, I can't confirm that, but I do admit the timeline is a bit suspicious. I get why some of you immediately rush to defend Lou and theorize that he was hacked, but I feel like it's such a cop out. Too many problematic figures get off scot-free just by claiming they were hacked. I'll hold out my judgement on that until more verified information comes out.

So for consistency's sake, I'm going to play devil's advocate, let's assume it really was Lou who tweeted that. I still don't see how it makes him an ableist?

First, it wasn't him who made this comment, the owner of that instagram account did. It wasn't even someone else's tweet or meme that he reposted, or did he signify his agreement to this statement. It was literally someone else's insta bio, a line that somebody else used to represent themself.

Second, look at the insta account itself. It's a K-pop stan account with 0 post and only 1 follower. It follows 19 celebrity pages, so it's safe to say someone made this account especially to snoop on celebrity news. How did Lou even find out the existence of such an account? That user must've initiated some kind of contact with Lou first, either through DMs or comments. Lou's an actor on a hit TV show, I'm sure he gets random comments from strangers every day. For a random stan account to stand out, they must've made an impression, probably not a good one either.

Third, it was posted as a direct response to someone demanding explanation for Lou's past problematic insta content. Why would he make an unrelated ableist joke about bullying blind kids in response to that? It's clearly a sort of gotcha attempt at pointing out the hypocrisy of the people pestering him online lately. They accuse Lou of being a bigot and try to get him fired, but at the same time they make jokes like this, so they're not in a place to judge him. Which is..... a shit retort. Lou's social media history WAS problematic, people have to right to question him on that. Him hitting back is whataboutism, but it doesn't make it less true, those people ARE bullies.

As I've said before, you don't have to be okay with Lou's past. I personally don't care, as I don't know him as a person, I also don't know who he was 10 years ago and what kind of environment he was in. As long as he's not actively using his platform to promote harmful views or using his fame to exploit people, I'm as okay with him as his co-workers are.

You do you, you can dislike him, outright hate him even, but you have to ignore all context and twist words around in order to paint him as an ableist asshole with this and this only.

not sure if you have noticed but there is someone in the submas tag whacking the beehive with some mean sounding posts and honestly I think it's hilarious and I'm all in for it.

The fandom bullies need to be pushed off their high horses and brought back to reality that they are just some rude bullies on the internet harrassing people for having a different opinion on fictional characters

And honestly the person is also right: they are frustrated because Ingo in LA took a lot of the shine off the original cast of the game. It is a tragedy he's there but it's also a shame the other cast gets sidelined so much.

And the fandom makes it difficult for others to enjoy the content. It's basically that bird meme with the crow being submas fandom being so obnoxious and loud the other part of the LA fandom gets totally overshadowed.

And I say this as a submas fan. I love the twins a lot. But the fandom is on the brink of becoming unbearable. At least the loud annoying obnoxious part, I actually think the "unpopular" side is much more calm, chill and friendly. And much less in your face.

The fandom needs to get down off their high horse and become a more calm fandom again.

I didn't get along with either side of the fandom, and truth be told, I think a lot of them are the same group of cowards and hypocrites playing politics. This fandom is smaller than I thought. Recently, someone on the crazytrain tag inadvertently let me in on the spice Twitter of one of the very first antis who blocked me. The twitter has 'Proshitters DNI' on their pinned post, (hurr durr durr, get it? Pro SHITTERS. How cleever..) and yet the whole blog is full of fat furries with top surgery scars. FOR SURE that person has a blankshipping side blog FOR SURE.

Side note: I'm into men, but Rule 63 isn't bad if the female version is hot. There's nothing grosser, however, than seeing a male character made into a fat gross furry with top surgery scars and a vagina. IDC about your trans representation. That's GROSS. IDG why trans is such a prevalent social contagion when it's represented in a way that makes me throw up in my mouth a lil like, ..ew..ew..ew..ew..EWWW!!1!1 Why would you wreck him like that?!

Nobody on earth wants to see that shit unless they are into that specific fetish. I doubt even trans males want to see that shit. Hey, you want to be a real male, right? That's the ideal right? Then represent yourself as an actual male and not a gross looking morbidly obese mutilated biological female with a rank dog's head. Fandom is supposed to be escapism, so spare me your harsh, repulsive reality.

Anyway, not only does that person have a side blog, but I'll bet they were on the blankshipping tag putting the most stupid of stupidest head canons out there, like 'RICH WIDOW OMEGAVERSE INGO, YO!!' Where Omega Ingo is yeeted to Hisui, and everybody assumes his alpha (his own brother) is dead because his werewolf bite mark is fading. Everybody in Hisui is pressuring him into choosing a new mate so he can crank out a litter of ass-puppies from his bunge-womb and save Hisuian society from a population crash (Omegaverse totally isn't dog-fucking, but like all the terminology is dog-related).

Almost everybody in the blankshipping tag was into Omegaverse or general werewolf bullshit, so don't even act like you don't know what I'm referencing unless you joined this fandom last week. Other than that, it was annoying when people would use their autism to be obnoxiously antisocial (I only want 'likes' or conversations in tags), or like when people had an issue with me reposting slim beautiful bishounen twins from Asian artists off Pixiv or Twitter. People have been doing that since Tumblr began, -there are entire blogs devoted to it- and yet it only became a problem when I started doing it.

*checks* I think I found the blog this ask was referencing. It's a fun blog because it gets people talking. That and Emmet month has the fanart picking up. My drafts are packed. There's a lot I disagree with though, like how Ingo overshadows the other characters and makes them less relevant. Actually, people being into the Train Twins might make the PLA characters MORE relevant. PLA might have been a forgettable game to some people, but love for submas angst made the other characters grow on them.

Also, they complain that the PLA tags on AO3 are either full of Train Clown fics or Volo x underaged Akari. In the absence of the twins, Volo x Akari would be the ONLY thing you'd see on AO3. You'd probably see even less of the other characters. The Volo betrayal might be the most interesting part of the game for most people. -So many people got taken in by how he pretended to be your friend, tried to get Giratina to kill you, then made you feel sorry for him at the end.

That last part was a guess, btw. I've read very little of both Submas and Volo fan fiction on AO3 outside of the specific ships I'm into, and I've read very little of those too. Most fan fiction comes across as dismal and unpleasant, so I make sure not to read it. That's the responsible thing to do. If you read something in a description you don't like, then don't read it. IE: Not once have I ever clicked on an Omegaverse after holding the bridge of my nose and reading the description of what it is. It's still fun to take the piss though, like....hey maybe people would write more Adaman x Irida -or- Commander Kamado x Beni if there wasn't so much RICH WIDOW INGO MAKES A NEST TO PLANT HIS ASS-PUPPIES INTO11!!1!!!

VERY RARELY... i try to respond asap to anyone who asks about translating (i LOVE TRANSLATIONS) but other than that i feel very shy about replying to comments LOL 😵‍💫😵‍💫 even though i love when authors respond to MY comments...

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

for a while i wrote a lot of "missing scene" wangxians where it's just like a moment or a handful of moments in the middle of the action, and i think all of them have implicit angsty endings: because they're just a missing scene, and there's no continuation, you understand that "having that conversation"/"kissing or almost kissing then" changes nothing in the greater arc... wei wuxian still gives jiang cheng his golden core, is still reviled and then killed... etc... but definitely the angstiest fic i've written remains flightless bird which cair read and then immediately blocked out of their mind forever

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

MOST Of my fics that aren't the above missing scene fics are happy endings. some faves include no other waters and to be a good companion, both post-tyk happy endings; at least in this lifetime, my most recent take on mdzs happy ending; a lot's gonna change, a wedding fic which was written in honor of most beloved friends mary + aubrey's actual real life wedding (and actual real life happy ending)

not really lol probably once a year i'll get a rude comment that i immediately delete and go "? lol" about. i was NOT victimized by shino which >:/ okay... excluding me...

ive really only written one crossover (atlas: wangxian + hualian) which got it all out of my system. crossovers are hard to do well especially when all the things i'm into are in world structures that can't easily overlap

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

no fics "stolen" as in reposted wholesale (TO MY KNOWLEDGE?) but definitely i used to notice some plagiarism here and there when wangxian was really popping! mostly specific turns of phrase/passages but sometimes whole concepts. also one time i tweeted a funny hualian thread about hua cheng purring and then a couple days later i decided i want to whip it up into a fic and then like 3 hours after i posted the fic i went and checked the tag (these were the days that you could check the tag more than once a day) and someone had posted their own fic that was just beat-for-beat my original thread. uncredited obviously. lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

YES AND I ACTUALLY KEEP A CHERISHED SPREADSHEET OF ALL THE TRANSLATIONS!!!! like claire, mostly spanish/russian/chinese. most exciting tls for me personally are the persian and turkish ones

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! i like it the most when i personally can understand it LMFAO but like really well-written bilingual writing where you DON'T have to speak the second language in order to get the gist of what's being said - either bc of elegant/subtle translation in the narration or bc of context - is sooo good and so hard to do well

OR i love lianzi's approach to translation in her shl chinese restaurant au (ONE OF THE FUNNIEST FICS OF ALL TIME) where some of the text is written in chinese and you hover over it for the english translation

19. First fandom you wrote for?

technically les mis but that doesn't count. jojo's bizarre adventure

ummmmm mmmm hmmmmm hmmmmm. at any given time i mostly like my most recent fics the best but i do think our eyes on the road is particularly enduring - i love a lot of the landscape writing i did in that one, i think i captured the vibe of "late winter in new england" particularly well!

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) : We have our moments for sure. Funny enough, the place I say we differ the most is actually our food preferences ?? I write Ms Ham-Sandwich Woman herself and yet I personally don't even like ham all that much, or really any pork in general outside of sausage. I don't like the taste of butter unless I'm using it to cook or putting it on some toast. Meanwhile, she can eat 16 sticks of it.

I feel like there’s a new round of scaremongering wrt “AI,” in that it has gotten so good that AI photos and videos are hard to distinguish from reality, therefore we should all delete our faces off the internet and be afraid to ever post them again.

to be clear you do not need to have a reason to not share your face. you can just not. whether it’s for your safety or anything else. do not feel pressure to do that. in fact I also agree that AI can be dangerous, with how datasets can be used to generate misleading info without regulation, and are used in policing to discriminatory effect.

but these were all problems before and regardless of AI. and I guess I’m a little confused about this particular argument because throughout the entire history of the internet, if someone wanted to manipulate your likeness, or manipulate your words, people did not require AI to do that. but I haven’t seen any recent arguments against Photoshop or any other picture/video manipulation app. hell, just putting your face online could be enough for people to harass you, like turning you into a meme template, no manipulation required. likewise, people have always been able to repost your sensitive photos—like nudes—elsewhere without your consent. and still, people have posted themselves online for decades, which is their prerogative.

I don’t care for AI generated shit but as usual people are acting like it’s a unique new problem, rather than addressing any root issue about why someone would benefit from manipulating someone’s photos. this could be a much-needed conversation about misogyny, transphobia, desirability, etc. in regards to safety. stuff like revenge porn. but in the same way people have skirted around talking about labor and intellectual property when talking about AI, they are continuing to do similarly with… posting photos.

because in the same breath I advocate being responsible with your personal data, I don’t see how this attitude helps people who post their face for work, people who have already posted their face and been attacked without the use of AI, and any vulnerable person who is already concerned for their safety because of aforementioned social issues.

hell, a trans woman was just kicked off this site again by staff. she was flagged even when she just posted her face. and it seems like she wanted to share her face because it gave her joy to. you could argue AI was involved but clearly there’s a pattern of flagging trans women on this website. AI just has the biases of the people programming it. not to “you can’t care about two things at once” but maybe go after the companies and social constructs that are the reasons why someone would be afraid to post themselves in the first place. yet many people here also refuse to engage with topics like transfeminism, but I digress. the reasons why someone could be targeted for posting photos don’t exist in some random vacuum. AI isn’t going to bring about the downfall of humanity Terminator-style or whatever. at least not any more so than countless other tools of patriarchy and capitalism.

(an example of this scaremongering with 20k likes in case someone says I’m making shit up. I fail to see how this phrasing isn’t just gonna make people unnecessarily stressed out. and yes, the video is just an AI-generated bird.)

like… a few weeks? as opposed to all the other times when someone’s life was ruined because they posted a few pics online? maybe AI is not the problem here

re: reposting anon. I am genuinely curious - where’s the generally agreed upon line?

People repost content all the time and get celebrated for it. Tweet threads, reddit posts, memes, and quotes from various sites get screenshot and put on tumblr all the time, and the only complaining I see is folks who want everyone to use image IDs.

I personally always ask before I post someone’s art to another social media site, and am often directed to the artist’s profile to share from there, but even more often am told it’s fine with a direct link and credit to the artist. I’ve never reposted fic. That feels more invasive to me in some nebulous way, but I do post fic recs, and I’ve never asked permission to make fic recs, either.

Clearly no one (sane) is saying there should be no content moving between sites unless the original artist puts it there, but tweets et al are just as much the intellectual property of their OPs as art and fics are of those creators.

It's hard to say.

I do have qualms about the endless twitter reposts on tumblr even as I reblog some of the funnier ones. I have zero qualms about using that one bird rights screencap as a reaction to things all over the internet. I never have qualms about reccing in whatever space I choose to use. The desire for historical preservation and the desire for control of one's own content are directly in opposition, and I tend to fall somewhat more on the historical preservation side.

Reposting to twitter is especially contentious because twitter is even more of a generator of mass harassment than other platforms. If you reposted to Dreamwidth, that shit isn't retweetable/rebloggable, and nobody's paying attention anyway, so the level of drama is going to be lower. If you save a copy on your own computer or repost to a private discord, who's going to know?

I don't mind a pithy quote being quoted elsewhere because it's funny. That's typical fair use. I absolutely mind my content being used to further sites I think we should mass abandon and make die. Twitter is at the top of that list.

So seeing ur reposts on Twitter abt the chained mates au has me thinking abt like those memes abt Bell preferring the princes beast form over his human one and I was wondering; do u think after the curse breaks Blitzo misses the beastly Stolas?

I think he would in some capacity. Beast!Stolas is completely honest- he's physically incapable of doing anything but wearing his heart on his sleeve, so Blitz could completely trust his actions as what he genuinely felt. At first he thought Stolas just wanted a warm body, but it became pretty clear that he genuinely loved and cared for Blitz, and only having one-sided conversations with action responses meant there wasn't much to misinterpret.

There's also the fact that, when Stolas is switched back to his 'normal' form full-time (he's still a bird demon), he's dealing with a Lot Of Mental Shit- his mental health was awful before Blitz showed up during the full moons and during the pregnancy he put all his focus on Blitz, but now that he's 'around' all the time, everything that's happened has had time to fully sink in. He feels guilty for what happened with Blitz (as Blitz has had more than six months to process, while he's had only six or seven nights from sunset to sunrise, and like I said he was focusing on Blitz) and trying to be there for Blitz and the baby is… rough, even though he's definitely doing his best.

Blitz misses at times both the huge mass of demon that he could sink into and cuddle with, feeling like he was enveloped by space itself, and Stolas being 'simpler' in a way, able to focus on the baby and being a (by that point) comforting presence. (He also feels guilty himself when he thinks about it, though- the idea of Stolas being forced away from being a 'person' just for his own convenience. He does genuinely like the man he's growing to get to know, but he's not completely familiar yet, even if they did know each other briefly as children- and the familiarity is probably a big part of it. He grew to like having a partner that was so big, so different, and adjusting back to it being a tall guy, even if it's a very pretty tall guy, is still an adjustment.)

The blue fox led a group of people wearing blue bird icon shirts through a digital portal, using his folding fan as a guiding flag.

“Right through here, there we are, doing great. Just keep in the three-by-long formation, very good!”

The portal closed behind them and the crowd clouded closer, looking around at the site, mumbling in curiosity and anxiety. “How does it work?” “Where’s the favorite button?” “How do I repost?” “Is this vegan?”

The blue fox clapped his hands rapidly for their attention, “Okay, okay everyone. Eyes on me, posts paused please! Now, it’s going to be new and it’s going to be different, and it’s no doubt going to be broken in an odd way, but if we stay smiling, respectful, polite, and remember that we are guests here, I’m sure we’ll find our own individual spots to enjoy.”

A user with a lowercase “t” icon on their shirt approached the group, and the fox turned to face him. “Just allow me to perform introductions,” he sighed “Gods willing we may get through this without getting cancelled.” he said under his breath through grit fangs.

“Hello, are you new here to Tumblr?” the user asked.

“Good morning! Well, long story short, we’re from Twitter, our platform is imploding, and we were hoping there were some rooms free at the inn at all?” the fox explained clasping his hands humbly.

The Tumblr user rolled their eyes, “I thought I heard something about something yesterday. Yeah, plenty of space, come through here.” They waved the group through.

They walked through halls of posters taped over posters, ancient memes peeking out from under fantasy and science fiction movie posters, covered by a plethora of current and not as current musicians. Several users ran by wearing Hogwarts house robes and carrying wands, laughing before disappearing into another door.

A Twitter user gasped in shock, “They play Harry Potter here?! Don’t they know-” she was cut off by the blue fox snapping his fan open in front of her face and blocking her mouth with it.

“Shht! Yes, there are ‘Potter Pockets’ around here, but I assure you they’re just as innocent as when the books came out. Roll with it.” he hissed.

Their guide turned to talk to the fox and his expression was warm and pleasant again, as if he never shot a cold glare through a refugee’s brain just then. “So what’s your Hogwarts house?” they asked, starting up mild conversation.

“Oh, well it’s been ages but the last time I checked I believe I was a cross between a Ravenclaw and a Gryffindor, but you know all us introverts are really just Hufflepuffs, right?” Nidonemo gestured, smirking.

“Hah! True! So how about the rest of you?” the local asked, but before the refugees could answer, their faces screwed up in disdain, the blue fox snapped his fan open between the souring faces and their guide.

“You know now that you mention it, Twitter is more a science fiction and superhero fantasy sort of spot, the whole wizarding thing never really caught on over there. If you have any X-Man personality matching quizzes or Marvel posters around I’m sure they’ll be entertained for ages.” the icy blue fox shot a sharp look over his shoulder and the refugees kept their mouths shut.

“Sure uh, we may still have some of those banging around lemme check the supply closet.” The local vanished into a door down the hall followed by sounds of rummaging.

The fox whirled on the group, his expression cold. “Okay grump council listen up. You don’t have a platform, this is the closest one I could find that could house a chaotic userbase, these people are weird, quirky, fun, and fascinating. Don’t forget for a fleeting moment that you have just come in from the rain and out of the reach of a bigoted tyrannical monument to the laughably childish mentality of a celebrity village idiot, don’t you dare look a gift fireplace in the hearth, do you understand me?” He hissed, eyes piercing and voice stern as if scolding a group of unruly children.

No one said a word.

“Hey! I found some! You guys like Neopets at all?” the local called down, leaning out of the closet.

The fox whirled back, face now glowing and warm like a Summer afternoon, “Obsessed with the stuff, my friend! Absolutely love them!” Nidonemo replied.

Oh this is actually how I feel about swans/geese. People think it’s amusing to go on about how these birds are EVIL AND CHAOTIC AND THE SPAWN OF SATAN and make jokes and memes about it, but it’s only revealing that most people have no idea what to do about an animal that doesn’t submit. Most wild animals run away from us, but swans sit in our parks and look us in the eye, and communicate clear boundaries and behavioral expectations, and that’s EVIL AND VIOLENT. They’re VIOLENCE LOVING ANIMALS WHO WANT TO EAT YOUR FACE. Because they don’t fawn or flee. They expect you to behave like an intelligent adult of their own species. They meet us as equals. We believe WE own that piece of land, and that swans or geese should submit; just as firmly do they believe that THEY own it, and tolerate us with about as much patience as we show them. And that is how “They won’t run away OR let me pet them” and “they hold us to their standard of behavior” makes animals evil, a word implying the moral choice to do harm. And in this, our normalised reaction to swans and geese (and cats), we can see that no, most of us aren’t ready to meet aliens yet.

Attack on Titan thoughts

last night i saw the finale of attack on titan and shared some meandering thoughts on the series on twitter, but i'm reposting it here because twitter is dead and sucks.

so i remember when this series started, it was a huge ass phenomenon. you could not escape it. but personally i wasn't entirely on board

i watched the first season, i got the appeal enough, yadda yadda giant freaky naked guys. i didn't hate it, but just found it kinda dry and unengaging. there was a vague horror aspect which i wasn't particularly into, some dry politics, and that was about it.

so the fanaticism and meme-ry was just something i witnessed from the sidelines. then like... years went by without a season 2, and it all just kinda died down mostly. (if i was clever i would say it was... rumbling... below the surface.... but i don't feel like it)

anyways that 2nd season finally dropped, and it kinda felt like an instant difference? like it finally felt like the story was gaining traction. it still had the mystery thing going, but it also kinda stared focusing more on character relations.

so the 2nd season is when i finally got on board with the series and engaged with the plot and characters. ... of course, the 2 leading characters of the season end up completely benched soon after, which i'm still kinda salty about.

the rest is a rollercoaster, i dunno.

but eventually the series swaps to a new production studio, which i was a little concerned about, cause Wit did a great job, but Mappa picked it up and knocked it out the park.

the whole "final season" thing ending up as multiple seasons and multiple specials is silly as hell, but the results speak for themselves and the final product was excellent.

the final season starts from a completely different perspective, which seems like a perfect spot for production to have changed. it's a bit jarring, characters don't look *quite* how you remember, but you get used to it.

this ED... luv it. listened it it a bunch. very sweeping, a perfect last emotional beat to lead each episode into. (plus i'm only just now realizing the foreshadowing of the bird imagery.) mwah.

so by the 3rd season on, it's clear the series it hitched on twists and poetic character interconnections. i love that shit. yeah, characters dealing with the results of their actions through the people their actions have affected. that's the good shit gimme that

what i like about this series is that it feels like the directions it takes were thought out and planned ahead? seems like an obvious thing to do with a story, but it's fleetingly rare under the maniac workload of weekly manga production, so you take what you can get.

but i feel the series would still have rewatch value, even after you know the mysteries and twists, because you can refocus on the actions of the characters, knowing the secrets they're hiding, seeing the little clues you never noticed previously. that is good.

my friend, who wasn't particularly into anime, got really into the 1st season (it's a gateway series afterall), but fell off with the 2nd season... so complete opposite of me... we argued about it a couple times lol

he's mumbling about the secret of the basement, how it's not a big surprise, and im like.... you are like a tiny baby... you cannot fathom the directions this series takes

and it absolutely does go wild places leading into the final arc, enough to reasonably say it jumped the shark or whatever. but at that point it's a rollercoaster and it's all a means to an end to get the story where it wants to be.

and the ending. fuck, for *years* i been hearing how bad it was. {spoilers} did people really want eren to live or something? c'mon. he's clearly miles beyond redemption by that point. and it still tries throwing him a vaguely sympathetic bone in the end you can take or leave.

don't be so clingyyyy about characterssss. not every character needs to be a beacon of moral light, and not everyone needs to get a happy ending. even if you still really like the character, let the narrative take them in the direction it needs to take.

the final scenes of time passing gets very existential. it shows that, despite all hardships, it was all just a spec of sand in the hour glass of time. despite the struggles and victories for peace, war still found its way back around again.

the final shot of the boy and the dog walking toward the tree where eren is buried mirrors ymir's accidental finding of titan powers. the suggestion is it's all cyclical, and the struggle of titans will inevitably begin again, as it reasonably happened even before ymir's time.

i think that's kinda poetic. i like it. leaves you wondering what it's all for. it's nice when an ending leaves you thinking about things.

anyways this rant is aimless and no one's reading. but i'm gonna go ahead and call this shit a masterpiece, idgaf. it's not perfect, maybe not a top fav, but it doesn't need to be. it hits those strong emotional notes cleanly and consistently, and that makes my dog brain happy.
