Hello Hello!
I've been seeing a few posts about people not knowing what to do after doing hiragana, katakana and some kanji, so I'm going to give some of the things that gave me a guideline to work with!
First off is Tofugu!
Tofugu has a lot of resources and even their own podcast you can listen to, where they talk about experiences (like the jet program), along with words and grammar, when to use them and what to use instead!
But what I'm focusing on is their ridiculously detailed guide to learning japanese! go have a read if your struggling! like they say "raise the floor before you raise the roof!"
Next is Renshuu!
Renshuu has decks you can choose from, be it genki vocab to grammar or N5 and up! they do have decks they recommend at the beginning like Japanese basics which they call N6. (don't be like me and skip it if your a beginner. I went straight to N5 but I'm struggling with the grammar since they are using words i skipped.)
They also have a leveling system where you can evolve your own renshuu for every few levels you've passed! there are also crosswords, mini games and more to make learning japanese more enjoyable!
If anyone has other things they want to add feel free to do so!
#japanese langblr#japanese studyblr#japanese#Tofugu#Renshuu#these are my main things i use#of course i have the genki textbooks as well but i only use them to test myself and to see how much i know

I use Renshuu to study Japanese, and they're hosting a little contest for their mascot Kao-chan.
I drew him with the sunset. 🤍🌅

Might just post things I’ve learned about the japanese language??
Yesterday I learned about adjectives and how to conjugate them and I think I’m gonna be tutored about verbs tomorrow. But anyways
My small limited understanding of adjectives so far!! Please correct me if wrong I’m so new to this.
Adjectives will always end in い or な (with the exception of some?) sometimes the ones ending in な will have parentheses around them !!
I’m honestly having a hard time finding adjectives that don’t end in い! maybe they’re more common but don’t quote me on that..
When you wanna have two or more adjectives in a sentence you have to take off the い/な and add on a くて !! So if I wanted to say cute, simple I would say かわいくて、やさしい. The adjective that comes first will have the くて form. The one that comes second usually should be just the same!
If you want to make it negative and say something like “I am not cute”. The sentence would go 私はかわいいじゃないです。The じゃない is what makes it negative!!
I have a tutor coming today and I’m gonna ask about adjectives further so it’ll be fun.

Can't remember the word-
or in my case, words-
I've been consistent with my word reviews on Renshuu for the past 5 weeks, also adding new words after I've done my reviews, but I have realized I can't remember them outside of the reviews-
When I do my reviews, they give me 4 choices and I only need to choose the correct one that correspond with the word they ask.
example: ばか 1. you 2. idiot 3. I 4. river (ofc it's idiot since I feel like one :'))
I breeze through them, but now I've changed my settings where it makes me type the word and it's むずかしい .
my 90% success rate went down to 10%-
But I do feel like I'll be able to remember them more outside of the reviews from now on.
It might feel difficult since you're technically throwing yourself back to the starting line, but after a while you'll see the progress even if it's slow.
がんばって!

You know what word keeps on tripping me up? That I can never get right after weeks of trying? 暗い. For some reason I always mispronounce it as くるい instead of the proler くらい. Pretty sure Renshuu is getting ready to beat my arse if I get it wrong one more time.

if anyone is learning japanese, i recommend using renshuu! i started using it because i wanted to relearn kana to prep for japanese classes @ college, and i gotta say, the app is really well done! you can customize your learning plan, you can learn multiple different things (hiragana, katakana, kanji, grammar, basic words) all at the same time!
as someone who needed a refresher on hiragana and katakana, it was really helpful to be able to choose to see more than 5 of them at a time so i could speed up the process of reviewing. you can also choose how many terms you get quizzed in at the end, and you can also choose to do a focused review of terms in that section, organized by things like recently reviewed, missed, learned, etc!
every term you learn will have examples, some of which are written by other users! there’s also word games, questions in japanese you can comment on with others in japanese, and more! the dictionary is pretty useful, if you tap on any word it will pull up a definition. the grammar lessons show useful diagrams to help you figure out what grammar to use! its an overall amazing app and i’ll be totally honest i don’t know why it gives you so many things while also being free 😭😭 its super useful and if i ever have income i think i’d upgrade to pro because i think the devs deserve more tbh
after the news about duolingo shifting to AI generated translations and only using human staff to check that the translations were bare minimum “acceptable” I switched my german lessons to busuu and I’ve only been doing it a month but it already feels like a more helpful interface. there’s typically way more german text onscreen than there is english (e.g. the headers and lesson instructions being in german), they use more complex compound words that start becoming recognizable in context, they give WAY more detailed explanations of grammar rules, and occasionally there’s a written short answer you submit to get feedback from other real users who are fluent. I don’t think they offer as wide a range of languages but if anyone is looking to jump ship from duolingo I’d recommend checking them out

I'm not even there yet at translating stuff from Japanese to English. Hope to be able to competently translate from English to Japanese in about... ten years?
