Hi V, I finally received your letter and postcard too. Wow Strangerville, the place looks stunning! I'll be honest I don't know much about it. I searched it up but there's not a lot, but I'd love to hear more from you!

I got too excited there, where is my introduction? You can call me Renee, I'm 18 and from Sulani. You must've heard of it right? The place is great and all but I want to get out of here. My dream is to live the city life!

I'm incredibly close with my parents, my brother? Not so much. He does his own thing, I do mine, that's how it is. The thing is though, it's not as bad when we are with family, especially if Dad is there. There's not much, what's the word? Tension. Like this morning during breakfast. I don't know why.

Anyway moving on! So you are home-schooled? That's so cool! What is it like? Trust me, going to school is just full of chaos. Literally everyone goes to this school in Sulani. Classes are always packed, we wait forever for lunch and I still get lost going to lessons!

And my favourite subject is history! I love learning about the past, it's so interesting. You won't believe this, my auntie is my history teacher! That doesn't mean I get extra hints or anything. What subjects do you enjoy?

Every day of my damn life I think about Renee being Andrew’s determined wing woman. She is doing the work, she’s listening to Andrew both on and off the medications (wild that he sounds more manic about Neil when he’s sober), she has a 14 step plan to get them to hand holding by the end of Junior year. She thinks she might manage to chip away at the world’s densest object Neil Josten by then.

Only for Andrew to call her one night and tell her “I said that I hate him, but that it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t blow him. I think it worked.”

She deserved a sainthood for not losing her whole shit.

Andrew is the favorite uncle. Not just for Aaron and Nicky’s kids but all the foxes kids are just obsessed with uncle Andrew.

None of the foxes understand why except for Neil. But that only because Neil is there when Andrew gets up at three am to answer a phone call from their sobbing niece, who admits for the first time out loud that maybe she isn’t a boy and “is that okay uncle Andrew”. Or when Kevin’s kid shows up at there house after getting in an argument with her dad and Andrew lets her rage and rant until it doesn’t seem like the end of the world anymore, then walks her home (hc: they live pretty close for a while cause their on the same team). Or when nobody can get Aaron’s twins to stop crying but as soon as Andrew is given a turn at trying to calm the babies they stop immediately.

The kids all love Andrew he’s the first one they go to with their issues, he’s the first one they run too when all the foxes are together, he’s the first one that they come out too if they’re queer(Nicky is so mad when his kid comes out to Andrew before him)

He’s just a really good uncle.

thinking about how renee is also a goalkeeper. we talk the most about andrew in goal (as we should), and consider the andreil conversation about how goalkeeper was the only position they'd let andrew play in juvie because it's the least combative position in a game of violent plays, and they couldn't trust andrew not to hurt anyone else playing. neil also notes how goalie armour is meant to protect against exy balls, not bodies. it's a PURELY defensive position (unlike backliners, who still get their hits in). yes yes, we get this for andrew.

but RENEE. who can play other positions but her choice is goalkeeper. who can also hurt others (and has), and is just as if not more dangerous than andrew, but her choice is goalkeeper. and i think about how intentional a choice that is for her - she could be violent, but this is another way she reminds herself that, in a violent environment, she doesn't have to be the same.

Dear Diary, so many things happened today! Mummy had a friend over and I got to meet her. Her name was Maliah and she had the prettiest purple eyes! I had never seen anything like them.

Robbie also asked me what kelp was and I had never heard of it before. We are going to investigate together, very soon actually! I can’t wait!!

Then Daddy took me and Robbie for a walk to look for treasures and we went exploring the beach. It was the best thing ever!

We came across a cave and Daddy asked us if we wanted to explore! I said yes! Robbie seemed a bit cared, so I held his hand all the way.

We found lots of treasure and shells and even some weird green plant.

Also Allison because in the ‘rodeo’ scenario that’s living side by side with the ‘old wild west’ scenario in my head, she and Kevin half-jokingly fight over the rodeo queen title every year (but every year it could just as easily go to Dan 😌)

Also I decided the clown is the rodeo equivalent of a goalie (last line of defense) and Renee is the only one trusted with the t shirt cannon. You could not pay Andrew enough to get on a horse - even just the roping goes too fast and you can fall off too easy - or ESPECIALLY a bull but he will haul ass across the ring to make sure Neil or Aaron (or anyone else but like especially those two) don’t get trampled by a bucking horse or bull respectively

Sometimes I sit and wonder about the paralels in AFTG and I go like "Woooow Nora's brain" yk?

So here are some of them:

•Jean and Andrew both having suicidal ideations, being number 3, not showing their emotions on the outside but feeling so much on the inside (AND letting people think they doesn't care), protecting Kevin (and others in general) and not accepting help until the situation is critical.

•Andrew and Riko both being separated from their families at birth and creating one by force, Andrew doing it mostly for others while Riko did it for himself.

•Renee and Neil growing up in mafia/gang enviroment and scaping it, the whole Nathaniel/Nathalie thing.

•Matt and Aaron growing up with neglecful parents and them being the reason of their addictions (to similar things also) and being "helped" with that by Andrew's questionable means.

•Nicky and Allison being shunned by their parents for being themselves, forgetting all the other things they did to make them proud and loved.

•Seth and Neil trying to blend in (in different ways but still), dealing with jelousy and then Seth dying his last year with the Foxes and Neil who thought he was gonna die his first year surviving.

There are much more but I can't think of all of them now and didn't write them the last time I thought about this. For me it's awsome how maybe a little desition, a person, a moment... can turn you in an entire different person and this books show that SOOO WELL!!

in episode 37 (“overture”), when asked if she’s curious to know what’s been going on with the musical transmissions, minkowski replies: “tchaikovsky’s alright. i’m really more of a chopin gal, myself.” this could easily be written off as simply naming another random composer as a haha funny quip, but here’s the thing:

chopin was a proud pole. his mother was polish, and his father was french, the opposite of minkowski. he moved around a lot, and settled down in paris (the meeting place of minkowski and her husband), but ultimately didn’t quite feel “home” anywhere. he adored poland and its traditions, and the majority of his works include mazurkas and polonaises. honestly, if he hadn’t contracted tuberculosis, he probably would’ve moved there to retire. minkowski’s polish heritage is so deeply important to her that it influences even the music she listens to, which makes it that much more heartbreaking that she was forced to anglicize herself for the sake of being seen as a person.
