Helping Hands from Labyrinth // Douglas from Terminator 2 // Cosplayer: @pagsamiam
I've been a fan of Labyrinth, since VHS tapes. And I wanted to do this costume since the 2nd grade, but didn't know how. I guess thanks to Flight of the Conchords and others cosplaying Bowie's character, the idea came back! And with many events like movie screenings, renaisance fairs, and Halloween contests, I felt ready. Finding the supplies and putting it together, makes it so much fun. It was fun to see the final product, fall into place and I would keep going without sleep.
Terminator 2 is in my top 10 favorite movies. I've recently been watching movie reactions on YouTube. And those reacting to T2, along with myself, get pretty disgusted with the character Douglas, the abusive orderly at Pescadero hospital (who licks Sarah Connor's face). I thinks he's never been cosplayed before so I combined him with the T-1000, to make an easier reference.
When I saw silver shiny, mini baking pie cups, they looked liked the T1000's shot wounds. So I found the uniform of Douglas easily at the thrift store. I added a metalic finger. Foil and steel tape is hard to work with, so I got thermal emergency blankets. The fold creases and wrinkles tighten up. Some people at Los Angeles Comic Con, said I was one of the twins which I believe is the story behind the actors who played the coffee vending machine guard. That makes me just as happy. Because they got T2 right

BOY DID I HAVE A GOOD TIME AT FAIRE
Did you know that small children will love leeches if you let them??? I had so many kids run up to me and demand to be cured from the plague by my magic jar of leeches (all I did was take out a plastic leech and make it make slurping sounds on their arm and tell them they were cured). Also apparently people will eat anything if you let them (he regretted it, those things taste awful)
and there were a healthy amount of rats so I didnt run out of a job all day :D IT WAS A GOOD TIME FOR ALL

New Blog Post! I went to Norfolk back in April and wore my Tudor Kirtle for photos! This meant lots of frantic sewing to make the shift, cap and forehead cloth, I also had a look round Norwich Cathedral and The Castle Museum and found lots of historic costumes! Link is here or click on the photo.

“Gifted with a unique ability to fuse musical genres and influences to craft songs that feel fresh and wholly her own, with her new album Putting On Airs, Erin Rae has thrown down a direct challenge to the stereotype of what a Southern singer should be. Both lyrically and sonically, she strikes a fiercely independent chord, proudly releasing a deeply personal record that reflects her own upbringing in Tennessee, including the prejudices and injustices that she witnessed as a child that continue to impact her life to this day. According to Rae, ‘this album was born out of a need to do some healing work in my personal life, in order to address some fears and patterns of mine to allow my true feelings to come to the surface.’”

“There is an entire sub-genre of poetry devoted to rivers and their persistent, meditative flow . . . For transcendent folk-pop artist Shannon Lay, the river is all of the above: It’s the metaphor driving her latest album, the exquisitely uplifting August (Sub Pop Records, out August, 23rd)—which doubles as an aural baptism renewing her purpose for making music. ‘I always picture music as this river. Everyone’s throwing things into this river, it’s a place you can go to and feed off of that energy,’ she says, ‘and feel nourished by the fact that so many people are feeling what you’re feeling. It’s this beautiful exchange.’”

A detail of my future bumla (trossfrau 16th century dress). I really like how these slits look like on 16th century costumes and during the design process of my bumla I added a few lines with slits.

And @legolasofithilien asked: If this keeps up, I may have to come up with some questions in revenge. It may take me a while, as in weeks, though.
1. Have you ever cosplayed? Does dressing in 7th grade as one of “The Big Black Things” from the Orphan Annie poem count? Most of my costuming skills got used when I was dancing international folk dance or for Vacation Bible Schools. I’ve been a naval captain, a pirate, a castaway, a clown, the voice of a snail, a track coach (now that’s a stretch!), a jungle explorer, and a mountain climber for VBS. Not that I don’t think Cosplay is fun. Just haven’t really had any opportunity to be involved.
2. Is there any character that you want to cosplay more than any other in the whole…universe? Underdog (I know, you probably don’t even know who that is. Sigh.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pv4xmZF_EI
3. Painting: finger-painting, acrylics, oils, etc? A little of all of it, but not a fan of oils because of the smell. I do better on digital mediums where there’s an undo button.
4. Ever worked with paper mache? Oh yes. But not for costuming. Mostly for (literal) world building. (planets, landscapes, etc.)
5. Colouring: chalk, crayons, pencils, markers, paints, (other)? Crayons and markers are my go to. Mostly because I work with kids. Chalk breaks my hands out, though I love the look. I keep trying colored pencils and always being disappointed with the results.
6. Ever wanted to do a non-easy traditional media, like frescos? What is that media, and what do you want to do with it? Clay. I did some really easy pot turning when I was a kid and I’d love to get back to that and do something really nice and play with glazes.
7. Thoughts on calligraphy? Beautiful. Glad someone has that skill. Half the time I can’t even read my own handwriting.
8. LEDs or electronics in your work? Too many, lol. I’m teaching preschool teachers how to use Windows and Office more effectively. Once a month, I decorate the sanctuary so it looks like outer space with strings of LED lights. Hubby and I are the go to tech folks for the family and church leadership.
9. Arduino or Raspberry pi (if you’re into those things)? Bought the hubby a Raspberry Pi. He’s enjoyed turning it into various things. (The combo with the mostly dead Roomba was a sad failure, however.)
10. Ever done leathercrafting of any sort? Made a pair of moccasins once. Also a belt pouch for when the dance troupe did a Renaisance faire one time.
11.Craft foam–the best material in the universe, or the bestest material? (j/k–ever use it for anything?) I’ve only used it with the kids, mostly with the pre-adhesive dye cut shapes. Takes up way too much room in the supply closet, lol.

Note
That feel when Renaisance festivals are both great yet hellish. Fun stimmy noises, smells, costumes (bonus pressure stim from the corsets), and sights but there's so many conflicting sounds and it's way too hot to be in a velvet dress. Bonus lowered sensory tolerence on the way home because my legs hurt from the second day and stimming/danceing (SPIN SPIN STEP DANCE TO BAGPIPES OMG). - 👽🐱 (alien cat)
