Headdesking - Remus Lupin/OC
Summary: Follow Remus Lupin bury his head in various pillows as his friends tease him about a crush he’s developed on the girl they recruit to assist them in their mission to become animagi.
Content warnings: Swearing. Some angst.
Chapter 21: Anything But Human, So Much More Than Monster
A young boy lay sleeping in one of the beds of the hospital wing. His face was turned sideways and buried deep into the pillow. The duvet reached so far as to cover his shoulder.
There was a girl sitting on a chair close by his side. Her hand had found its way on top of his. She was presently paying acute attention to the marks on his face, counting each one with growing distress, only somewhat settled by the sound of his slow breathing hitting the pillow. Each scratch she made note of was inspected and followed up with an imagined enactment of its inception.
What she didn't want to imagine was the time when the tear streaks on his face would have occurred.
When James, Sirius and Peter entered the hospital wing, they saw something they had yet to be met with before upon their visits. A girl, already sitting by his bedside.
"How long have you been here?" James asked her.
She couldn't make out if he was in a good or bad mood, but assumed that he and his friends were probably pissed off at her. "Not that long." she said, moving her hand into her lap while examining the rest of the incoming crowd.
She knew that she should probably be pissed off at them still. But whenever her eyes found the boy lying in the hospital bed so vulnerably, and with the knowledge of what they were trying to do for him, she couldn't find it in herself to resent them anymore.
"I see." He exchanged a minor glance with Sirius. She could see the process of thoughts in their eyes, and was about to ask what was up when Sirius spoke.
"Remus had a... pretty bad fall yesterday."
Her mouth had opened to respond, but when amusement began tugging at the corners of her lips, she had to close it by way of stifling it.
They arrived by Remus' bed. James put his hands in his pockets and Sirius looked out across the empty beds.
"Was that before or after the wolf took over?"
She relished in the reaction her words had. The boys all looked at her with mixes of shock and disbelief.
"You know the truth?" came Peter.
"Did Lily tell you?" James demanded, like he was already planning the moment when he was going to take out his grief with her in his head.
She nodded toward Remus. "He told me."
James laughed without really seeming that amused. He crossed his arms with a superior expression. "No way."
"Hey, I'm not the liar in the group." she sputtered defensively.
Everyone's heads turned to Remus then.
With a wicked smile Sirius bent toward the bed. "We should wake him." he suggested, indicating a newfound investment in the unfolding narrative.
James pressed him back with his hand. "No! Don't wake him."
"Madam Pomfrey wouldn't like it." Peter stammered.
"'Think I care what Madam Pomfrey says?" he countered. Though a glance behind his back confirmed it to the rest of them.
"Hi."
Everyone turned back to the boy in the bed. Remus was mostly directing his greeting at Hazel. He turned over on his side and pushed his hand against the mattress in a shaky-at-best effort to sit up. He made it about halfway into an upright position before settling.
"Hi."
James rolled his eyes dramatically. "Can you be quiet for even one minute?" He took Sirius and dragged him over to the neighbouring bed, directly followed by Peter. The three of them sat down in an effort to give the two some space.
He looked at her through bloodshot eyes, and Hazel couldn't stop the tears from forming in her eyes.
His expression was still dazed from having just been asleep, but his two eyebrows still contorted toward his heavily lidded eyes. "Why are you crying?" he whispered hoarsely.
He gave a second attempt to get his body fully upright, and a hiss escaped him as he did so. Hazel made a move to help him, only stopping herself at the last second. The duvet fell down, revealing some heavily bruised ribs. When her eyes fell on them, a hand flew up and covered her mouth to stop a sob from escaping.
He smiled faintly, hoping that it might soothe her, but more tears came up still. She was now at maximum capacity, and they flowed down her cheeks. The longer she beheld him, the shorter were her breaths.
She moved out of her chair, and sat down on the bed next to him. Some more tears fell, but Remus could no longer think to press her on the matter of why.
The spectators of the scene raised their eyebrows, unexpecting of her forwardness, and were too curious to look away or to make conversation amongst themselves.
She looked at Remus dotingly, making his breathing temporarily stop (along with the rest of his friends'). Her hand went up to his cheek. The whole room had gone dead silent. He looked into her eyes, and she leaned in.
She hesitated.
He waited.
Then she kissed him.
As much as it puzzled him that she would do such a thing after the previous evening, he didn't want to do anything to stop what was happening. Instead he sat up further and leaned into her. Their mouths fell open. She turned her head to give him access, and soon they were utterly engrossed in one another.
The others stared at the kissing couple for a moment, until coming to the conclusion that the two were not planning on stopping anytime soon. The clouds outside the window suddenly became very interesting, as did the floor and the bedside lampshade, the latter currently being felt by James' fingertips.
This was the first time that Remus was letting himself enjoy her company without restraint. He let himself concentrate on the way her lips felt against his; the tingling sensations in his stomach prompted by her touch. He let himself enjoy being desired by someone, and the warmth brought by their touch.
When his hand left her shoulder and landed on her cheek, she could feel how much he was shaking.
"Hey..." she let out. But any language was soon stifled by him capturing her lips again, with more heat to distract her with.
His hand was still faintly rattling — and eventually she remembered it too. Her lips left his and she took his hand with hers and placed it in her lap.
"You're shaking a lot."
Remus was about to answer, but Madam Pomfrey walked through the doors right then. While making her way over, her eyebrows had just enough time to contort; her lips just enough time to form into a tight pout, before making it. It was the act of looking around and seeing all the people hovering by his bed that brought the stern attitude — the person sitting on it being the main culprit. That behaviour happened to be her most common gripe.
Her eyes had locked on Hazel. "You shouldn't—" she began. But what stopped her was the sight of the young girl absentmindedly sweeping the hair out of Remus' eyes while not paying Madam Pomfrey much mind at all yet.
The Madam fell silent instead of completing her sentence. She turned to Remus and handed him his medicine, while not quite letting her eyes wander off Hazel. She smiled awkwardly at the girl.
"Thank you." Remus said slowly, watching her curiously. He took it without her having to tell him to, as she seemed to be temporarily mute.
James' fingers fell off the lampshade as he took in the scene. Peter and Sirius' eyes drifted off the woman to join one another in mutual confusion.
Hazel smiled tentatively at the Madam, who blinked a few times in turn. Her voice came back to her then. "Stay as long as you'd like." she told them, though only with reluctance turning to direct the sentiment at the other three as well. "I think company might do him some good today."
She straightened and flattened her apron with her hands. "It is Saturday, after all." Only after some nothing-short-of disoriented looking around to figure out where she was going, she made her way to her office.
"That was different." Sirius commented.
Hazel looked over at him with a fleeting attention while her hand came back to enclose Remus'. Said boy looked down at the contact.
"Are you not still scared of me?"
She changed her hold on his hand while she pondered over his question, and what it could have originated in. "When was I scared of you?" she asked, finding his eyes.
"Yesterday in the corridor. You seemed quite frightened."
"You mean when you stopped me on my way to the seventh floor?" she asked. When receiving a nod of confirmation she explained, "It's no longer a full moon out. I don't have anything to be frightened of."
"But—"
"Did you think that I was always going to be scared of you always from now on, Remus?" The thought seemed almost too preposterous to be posed, but she had done so anyway.
His mouth fell open and the jaw moved, but he stopped and looked over at his friends, hoping that they would chime in and provide her with the context he couldn't quite formulate right that second.
But the three of them were all feeling too bored of this premise by now to make any effort to help him, so he had to carry his own load.
"It's quite frightening. Person turning into a monster at odd times."
Hazel sighed and nodded. "If I was near you during a full moon, I'd be pretty scared. I'll give you that — but look." she pointed at the window, revealing a clear blue sky.
Remus ignored the window. "You were scared yesterday." he reiterated.
She groaned. "Is this what it's going to be like from now on — you judging me? Come on. You have to give me a break. I had no idea what time it was. I had no idea what day of the month it was. But I'm not scared of you. Not normally."
Remus looked vacantly into thin air. Hazel studied him, but soon came to the realisation that she was not about to receive a response. She turned to the others instead.
"I take it you never found the box?" She let her eyes seize the three of them up. "You don't look particularly disfigured."
"Wow, flattery of the highest level." Sirius quipped. "Remus, will you tell your girlfriend to stop flirting with me?"
James lowered his chin as far into chest as it could go and snorted.
Sirius had successfully woken Remus from his thoughts, and the boy reached for the latest issue of the Daily Prophet on his bedside table, rolled it up and threw it at his friend.
Sirius dove away while laughing heartily.
Hazel tried to puzzle the pieces together of what she had said to cause that response, but came up short. "Seriously though, you failed right?"
Remus stopped shooting daggers at Sirius, and the barely noticeable tug at the corner of his lip disappeared too. "Just tell her." he muttered to his friends.
The three of them broke into identical smirks. They looked between each other.
"We don't have any classes to get to, what do you say we head outside and you can see for yourself?" Sirius wagged his eyebrows, receiving him a look of warning from Remus.
But Hazel didn't take note of how slick Sirius was trying to seem, she was far too focused on what he was implying. Despite the ethical dilemma she was struggling with, she couldn't help but break into a wide grin all the while.
"You succeeded!" she squealed out in glee. All that hard work had resulted in something incredible. She'd made their wish come true. They could now shapeshift at their own will. "I thought you didn't know where the room was. How did you get to it?"
"We're not sure." James explained, seeming as baffled as she. "We ran around like crazy looking for it, and eventually it appeared."
Hazel smiled warmly. "I suppose that's how the magic of the room works — it appears when you really need it."
Sirius wore a similar smile as he thought back, like reminiscing about his first love. "But the real trick was finding the wooden chest. It took us ages to find that."
The four of them smiled at each other for a moment. Even Remus managed a faint one. Then Hazel's face took on a dead serious expression suddenly. "I'm going to make you register."
"Never." James and Sirius chimed in unison.
A staring battle ensued, only broken when James gestured at the door.
"Shall we?" he suggested.
Hazel snorted before turning to Remus. A blush came into her cheeks and she kissed him on the forehead. "I'll be back in a bit."
The guys stood up, but before they could make a move Remus piped up.
"Wait, you're actually going with them?" he questioned.
"Well yeah." her eyebrows twitched in confusion. "I have to see it for myself."
His eyes flitted over her features. He reached his hand up behind her ear and let his fingertips smooth out the tips of her hair. "When will you be back?" he asked as nonchalantly as he could, but it didn't take much for his friends to work out what the boy was thinking of.
Hazel seemed momentarily distracted by similar thoughts. "Soon probably." she mumbled, her eyes falling on his lips.
"Are we going then, Hazel?" James interrupted, trying to keep himself from laughing.
She was snapped out of her trance, and slid off the bed to go and join them. "We'll have to go into the forest to ensure that no one sees us." she pondered as they began making their way out. "But we have to be careful. I don't want a repeat of last time."
"Since when do you suggest breaking the rules?" Sirius asked.
Hazel fell silent, mulling over what she had just said. Instead of defending herself, she changed the subject.
"Don't for a moment think that I've forgotten about the registry by the way. I'm going to make sure that you register."
"Sure." James sighed.
Remus smiled as he watched them go, then lay down. His shakes had stopped, and he was free of headaches or nausea. When he closed his eyes, he quickly drifted into a peaceful sleep.

Remus was not paying attention to what she was saying. (..) He was looking at her face. The skin on her hands and arms was covered in scars, probably inflicted by dragons. But that one obvious red line that ran over her cheek and jaw…
He knew instantly he had given that to her.

i need good fanfic
so, i'm reading a lot of fanfic (wattpad books) these last times, and i'm looking for more and i want suggestions (because i'm not finding many of what i have in mind, the good ones i mean, ~ very selective yes ~), and it's from Harry Potter.
things I have in mind are: - happy endings (seriously, avoid character death, for example: without sirius and remus death, that kind of thing, I like them alive) - maybe harry has another aunt / uncle? - siriusxoc - remusxoc - bill weasley x oc - fred or george x oc - harry living with his godfather or godmother (being raised) - in short: revolving around books but with changes
PLEASE send recommendations!
and if you have a really good fic to share, send it! even if it doesn't have much to do with what I asked for. can be in any language.
 THANK YOU!
sorry if english is bad, I translated it through google translator

A Whole New World
Chapter 3: The Big Day
Today was the day that I started at Hogwarts. Remus was on the train with the other students while I was already at Hogwarts. Remus and I are actually sharing a living space much to Minerva's disagreement. I unlocked my trunk and started to unpack clothes and put them in my big wardrobe. While looking through my clothes, my cat Tiger jumped on my bed with a spider in its mouth. "That's disgusting get off my bed!" My cat instead swallowed the spider and went to sleep in the same spot. I shook my head and laughed. I made sure I had everything I needed and came across my scrapbook with all of the pictures with my parents in it. One picture was me and my dad. I remember that day, he was trying to teach me how to play baseball and it ended with a ball coming at my face and me crying. There was another picture of me and my mom laughing while making Christmas cookies together like we did every year. I sighed as a single tear fell on the picture. I missed my parents so much. I know they will be proud of me with whatever I am doing. But the fact is whatever I will be doing, it will be on my own. I glanced over the clock reading it was 4pm. The children should be arriving any minute now along with Remus. I grabbed my wand and took a look at myself in the mirror before I left my room. I tired to put on my best smile and headed out the door. There was a lot of commotion around when I walked into the Great Hall. All I could really make of the conversations was Sirius Black, Harry Potter and Dementors. I sat down next to Minerva with a concerned look. "What happened on the train?" "Apparently Dementors came onto the train in search of Sirius Black. They of course stumbled upon Harrys compartment and he passed out. Good thing Remus was in that compartment and sent them away.” "Are you Serious!" she looked at me with a disapproving look. meanwhile you hear Dumbledore whispering, "Too soon." Minerva gasped and then looked at him. "Albus!" everyone at the table laughed except Minerva and Flitwick. Minerva sighed and walked away to meet the first years at the front to begin the sorting. A few minutes later Minerva was leading a big group of nervous or excited first years. After the sorting, Dumbledore made his annual speech.
"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts!! Now there have been a couple of changes for this year. So first I would like to welcome Professor Lupin who will be teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year, good luck professor!” Everyone applauded and bet to see how long this one would last. “Also this is professor Mclennon who will be helping Professor Lupin this year. Good luck Professor Mclennon!”  I am also happy to announce that our new Care of Magical Creatures Professor is non other than our own Rubeus Hagrid.” All the students cheered. From what i have heard Remus was a great man with a passion for the magical creatures. “ One last bit of news. Unfortunately Dementors will be surrounding our grounds searching for Sirius Black. Give them no fear because, you know Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light. Thank you students! Let the feast begin!" Food appeared in front of us as we all began to eat. After everyone finished we all got out of the Great Hall and headed out to the rooms. As i was walking to my room i had a thought. Would Sirius really come towards Hogwarts grounds?

Headdesking - Remus Lupin/OC
Summary: Follow Remus Lupin bury his head in various pillows as his friends tease him about a crush he's developed on the girl they recruit to assist them in their mission to become animagi.
Content warnings: Swearing. Some angst.
Chapter 1: A Proposition
A/N: Don't expect: - Much Peter content - A fully accurate depiction of animagi-lore
*
Remus was having breakfast together with James and Peter in the Great Hall. Apart from the faint buzzing of a snitch zooming through the air, it was a peaceful moment. For the past fifteen minutes everyone had been quiet, allowing Remus to enjoy his book while eating his cereal.
Then Sirius came strutting up to them and sat down.
He leaned his head in toward the middle of the table, causing the other three boys to peer up at him under their eyebrows and lean in as well. James grabbed the snitch and tucked it in his pocket, letting his full attention be on Sirius.
"We're lucky. I was just in the library looking up the registry on animagi, and as it turns out there is one at this very school with us." he whispered.
Peter and James' eyes widened, whereas Remus merely pursed his lips. They all leaned back as Sirius swivelled around and pointed with a full finger and arm at a girl sitting at the Hufflepuff table, her eyes currently tracing the pages of a book.
James leaned forward again and squinted. "Is she reading the school's official code of conduct?"
"Looks like it." Peter confirmed.
Remus couldn't help a small smile tugging at his lips. "Hazel Pembroke." he said without thinking.
Sirius' eyes went wide. "You know her?" a pleased grin spread across his face. "Perfect."
Remus' friends all looked at him. His smile disappeared. "I don't know her." he was quick to say.
They all quieted, but their attention didn't leave the unsuspecting boy.
Remus' eyes fell briefly again on the reading girl. When he looked back at his mates next and found them still staring, he soon realised that they were waiting for him to explain himself. "We have several classes together!" he let out, a tad defensively at that. "I've just... seen her."
James raised his eyebrows and the boys looked between each other. Remus stopped in his tracks, knowing full well that in about ten seconds he would be fully blushing, and relishing in the sweet few seconds of privacy he had left.
But he was lucky, as Sirius soon stole everyone's attention back. "Hazel, guys. Remember her name." he bored his eyes into James and Peter. Remus could tell that this was important business to him. Anything involving doing something dangerous was important to Sirius.
Everyone nodded including Remus, despite not having been one of the ones addressed.
James looked over at Hazel. "Now we just have to go over there and kiss ass and be really nice to her and make her share all her ancient wisdom with us and devote all her time to helping us become animagi ...and to also swear an oath to do it in secret."
Peter nodded (albeit tentatively) once again, but James was still able to smile confidently.
Sirius was the first one to jump up from his seat. He began charging toward the Hufflepuff table while Peter and James climbed over the table from the other side, receiving some nasty comments from their fellow diners. Remus, on the other hand, groaned and stood up as painstakingly slowly as he possibly could.
It wasn't just the fact that he didn't want his friends to do this for him. Becoming animagi was a great risk, and hanging out with a werewolf (even as a fellow animal) was an even greater risk. But aside from all of that, something about going over to Hazel, the girl he would usually spot in class with either a book he had read and loved, or a book he would eventually come to love after seeing her read it and deciding to pick it up for himself — seemed in the moment like something incredibly daunting.
Once they had caught up to Sirius he turned to them and mumbled, "Only problem is... she's a prefect." For the first time Remus could actually spot a flicker of doubt on his friend's face at his own plan.
"Just an inconsequential little detail." James sarcastically remarked and rolled his eyes.
After that they all slowed their pace significantly. Suddenly none of the four seemed to want to arrive at their destination. Yet a few seconds later — found that they had.
Hazel was underlining a passage in the book. Remus stared at her as he sat down opposite her. Her boyishly short brown hair was sticking out from all sides, curving out on both sides at the back of her neck. Her petite figure; her large brown eyes scanning the words before her; it all made him want to get up and run in the opposite direction, while at the same time wishing she would look up and say something to him.
Just as they had all sat down though, without so much as glancing their way she shut her book and stood up to leave. She was just reaching for her bag when...
"Where are you going?" asked Sirius, dumbfounded.
After realising that she was being addressed Hazel stopped, but her bag kept flying and landed around her shoulder while she finally took a moment to acknowledge the foursome. Her eyes landed on the boy who had spoken. It took her a moment, but eventually she remembered to speak.
"It's 7:30." she answered, like it was self-explanatory.
"So?" Sirius replied and folded his arms over the table.
Hazel hugged her book across her chest. "So I have to get to class."
Sirius furrowed his brows. "Do you have class at 7:30 in the morning?" he asked, like it was the most ridiculous thing he'd ever heard.
At this point Remus couldn't hold back anymore. He pinched the bridge of his nose and angled his head down, cringing at his friend's idiocy and hoping to Merlin that it wouldn't reflect badly on himself.
It was Hazel's time to furrow her eyebrows. "I don't. I have class at 8:00, and if I don't leave for it now I'm going to be late." she looked at her wristwatch, as if accounting for the precious seconds missed by the diversion, then looked around at the rest of the boys too and added, "In fact we will all be late, since you guys take Herbology with me."
Several other students around them were now also standing up to leave. But Sirius was not deterred. He gave her a crooked smile, "And since you take that class with us, you know that we are always late for it. Why don't you join us, just this once?"
Her eyes darted between the boys. "But if I do that then..." She trailed off, seemingly unsure of how to finish her sentence.
They all waited for her to gather her thoughts.
Her eyes finally focused on Sirius, and Remus felt relieved at not being the subject of her flitting attention. "...Then I'll be late." she finished simply.
"So?" Sirius asked once again. "Be late just this once."
"But... I'll be late." she repeated.
James stared in bafflement at the girl. Sirius looked off and sighed, although with a small tug at the corner of his lip. "Can't you be late just once?" He suggested once more.
Hazel stared off toward the exit. "I guess I could..." she pondered, sounding like it was the first time she had ever considered it.
She ended up sitting back down, but the existential crisis was still ongoing if judging by her expression. Sirius and James didn't seem to mind that detail however, and jumped right in. They began to explain their plan (leaving out the werewolf aspect) with utmost detail, all to her still vacant expression.
Remus took a moment to reflect on his newfound knowledge about the girl before him. There was something awe-inspiring about being in the presence of someone who must be so skilled and knowledgeable to have been able to complete the process of becoming an animagus.
And she was so young. And sort of innocent and sweet looking...
"Remus, stop staring at her." James said then, causing Remus to immediately look away and for Hazel to start blushing.
After that Remus' defensive systems kicked in and he soon found himself muttering, "I'm not staring. I just don't understand why we need her."
Hazel narrowed her eyes at Remus, but she mostly looked surprised at his statement.
The boys however had all mutually tensed at Remus' snarky tone.
"Well she's an animagus, and we're not." Peter explained to try and salvage the situation.
"Yeah Remus, catch up." James joked and patted him on the shoulder. He turned to Hazel, hitching with a chuckle and gesturing at Remus as if to imply that he was the reason for it.
But Hazel wasn't laughing. "Not just for the fact that I myself have completed the spell successfully, but a large part of my family are animagi." she explained. "For us it's a rite of passage of sorts. The wisdom of how to best succeed at it has been passed down through generations of us." Her eyes singled in on Remus and she continued, "I sit on a world of knowledge about this particular spell. All the helpful tips and tricks for getting it right. I know the ins and outs of it like the back of my hand and to be perfectly honest, I'm not confident that you guys have it in you to pull it off." Her eyes drifted toward James, who was shaping his hair, trying to get it to stay put in the particular way he wanted it. "...At least not without my help." She finished, raising her brows cockily at Remus.
"I think we'll try our hand at it ourselves, thanks." Remus countered, receiving more than one dissatisfied stare from his friends.
He knew that he was destroying their plan. But he supposed it was probably fine. He was sure they could probably do it without her.
Probably.
And to be perfectly honest, the idea of being in close proximity to her more than he already had terrified him. It was definitely best they just do it themselves.
Hazel didn't seem fazed by Remus' refusal to take her advice, and she already had more ammo at her disposal. She waved her hand casually in the air, "The choice is yours. But if I were you I'd take all the help I could get." Then she placed two elbows on the table and leaned in, "...Unless you want to end up with bat-ears, like my uncle."
James' eyes went wide and his hand stopped tending to his hair.
"Or with a tail, like my grandfather." she continued, then watched as Peter's eyebrows bent in despair.
"Or with scaly elbows, like my cousin."
A violent shudder went down Sirius' spine.
But Remus remained composed. "Clearly the ancient wisdom in your family hasn't got you very far."
Peter stared dumbstruck at him. But Remus ignored him. He refused to drop Hazel's gaze.
"Like I said," she began slowly, "it's a complicated spell."
"You managed to do it, how hard can it be?" The words slid out of Remus' mouth like a reflex. But as soon as he'd said them, he suddenly found it incredibly difficult to keep eye contact with her. He looked away.
Hazel pursed her lips. Then without another word rose to her feet, snatched her bag and stomped off to Herbology.
Remus' friends watched pleadingly as she went. But no words came out of either of them. Instead they turned toward the culprit, who was presently looking down at the table in a sullen state.
He wasn't sure what had just happened, or what had driven him to act in the way he just had, but a feeling of strong dissatisfaction with himself was rapidly manifesting.
As soon as Hazel's short frame had disappeared out the door and left the now empty Great Hall, Remus resorted to leaning down and bonking his head against the table repeatedly.
"Remus." Sirius began in a matter of fact tone, yet with an underlying scathing quality. He continued, "May I remind you that we are trying to get this girl to do us a ginormous favour?"
Remus stopped bonking his head, and like the naïve boy that he inevitably was, still believed he could get away with some good old nonchalance of his misdemeanour, "So?"
Sirius was too baffled to continue his line of questioning, therefore James picked up the torch, "So — it would benefit us if you could help butter her up a little." He poked Remus' side with his elbow. "You know... instead of repeatedly insulting her." he finished awkwardly.
"Yeah. Why on earth would you do that?" Peter asked.
Instead of replying Remus made a face, with his forehead still pressed against the table nonetheless.
"You're like the sweetest person on this earth." James let out.
Remus grimaced once again.
"I once saw him apologise to a bludger while we were playing quidditch." Peter interjected.
More bonking ensued on Remus' end.
"But the one time we actually need you to be kind, you do a 180° personality change." Sirius exclaimed, finally out of his temporary muteness.
Remus sat up, but met neither of his friends' eyes. He proceeded to unenthusiastically grab his bag and stalk off before any of them could press him for any more answers.

New fanfic: Alicia Doreen and the werewolf professor
Hi peeps!
I just wrote a new fanfiction with RemusxOC. Read the first chapter here and the rest here.
Chapter 1: first impressions
Remus John Lupin was incredibly nervous for his first class as a teacher of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Well technically this wasn’t his first, because earlier that morning he had started with the second years of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but that seemed to go by so quickly and easily. He wondered whether the young students were so quiet because of his teaching skills or because of the scars that decorated his face. Hardly a day went by without someone staring at him.
No, but he counted the second period of the first day of the schoolyear as his first class, because he needed to teach the seventh years next. It was quite the switch in subject matter and level of expertise from the impressionable second years to the rebellious and clever seventh years.
He woke up from his trance when the door opened and the students entered the room. He stood to say a polite ‘good morning’ here and there, waiting for them all to settle down. He already heard the first whispers mentioning his scars and placing bets to how he got them. The students had the idea that they were discreet and quiet enough, but they didn’t know that Remus Lupin had a heightened sense of hearing. However those words didn’t bother him. Soon enough the initial shock of his physique would die down and they would have to listen to his teaching.
When the last student closed the door he took out a parchment and started scanning the names. ‘Good afternoon class. My name is Professor Remus John Lupin. I will be your Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher for this year and hopefully many to come. I would like to start by checking the attendance sheet first. William Boot?’ After a ‘here’ from William and a couple of others he grew confident that his class was all present, until he heard a pause after asking for ‘Alicia Doreen?’
‘She isn’t here yet professor,’ a girl in the back replied. Remus looked up from the list, as if to hope that the missing girl would suddenly appear. ‘Well do you know where Miss Doreen is?’ The girl with the raven black hair was about to open her mouth, when the door slammed open. Remus looked up to see a seventeen-year-old girl standing in the opening, her hair tangled and wild, her chest heaving from running up the stairs. She leaned in the doorpost with her hands and her legs stood wide with her toes facing inward. The sight was so comical Remus nearly forgot he was supposed to be the adult in the room. He forced down his chuckles and cleared his throat.
‘Sorry I’m late professor. There was an incident I had to deal with,’ the girl replied. She started to walk towards the empty seat next to the raven haired Ravenclaw. Remus sniffed the air, and smelled something unpleasant. He looked the newest arrival over again and realised that her hair wasn’t just tangled, but also scorched. He smelled burnt hair.
‘An incident? Is that why your hair is smouldering?’ He asked. The class seemed surprised by his reaction. Sure enough some teachers would call bullshit and straight up deduct house points. The girl was suddenly aware of her hair and started running her fingers through the scorched parts. ‘Whoops. Thank you for telling me professor.’ Once again, Remus had trouble containing his smile.
Alicia hoped she didn’t miss any of her hair still smouldering away. Suddenly she noticed the smell and apologized to Michelle sitting next to her. Her friend looked half-amused half-annoyed at her silly friend and patted out a small burn mark in her robes.
‘What did I miss?’ Alicia asked. Michelle shrugged. ‘Nothing. He literally just asked where you were and then you stormed in like a lunatic.’ Alicia chuckled. ‘You know I like dramatic entrances.’
Professor Lupin continued down the list and once he was done, he addressed the class once more.
‘Well, now that we are all here,’ Alicia noticed the professors green eyes looking at her for a second ‘we can start the class. I understand that last year went quite different than usual. Your professor, Mister Lockhart was send to St Mungo’s and your exams were cancelled due to the Chamber of Secrets being opened. So am I to understand that you are a bit behind?’
Half the class started talking at the mentions of last year. When professor Lupin had shushed them he chose a Ravenclaw to inform him. ‘The exams being cancelled was a blessing. Professor Lockhart was a complete fraud. He taught us nothing all year.’ There were noises of agreement from the class and the professor pressed him on. ‘So we might need more than a little extra aid to catch up with the material from last year.’
The professor sighed. ‘I was afraid the situation was regrettable, but to catch up on an entire year…well don’t worry. I’ll work on a new schedule. For now I want to catch up on the nonverbal spells. Have you practiced those last year at least?’ Some people nodded. ‘Alright then. I’ll talk them over for half an hour and after that we will practice them. Sounds good?’
The excited noises from the students seemed to lift the professors spirit. Alicia watched the curious new professor. He wasn’t like any of the other teachers. They were all so strict, so…inhuman and distant. But this man, he seemed a lot closer to the students. He felt for them, having a moron for a teacher the year before they graduated. He seemed to want to be liked, because he looked for confirmation of his lesson plans. And lastly, he hadn’t said anything about house points or detention to Alicia. For that alone, she felt already in his dept.
‘What do you think?’ Alicia asked Michelle as everyone was getting out their books. Michelle looked up with a questionable look. ‘What you mean the professor? I guess he is okay so far.’
In front of the two Ravenclaw girls sat two more Ravenclaw girls. Elena, the ever bubbly and naïve friend, turned around to join in. ‘He looks weird though. Those scars. What do you think did that?’
Alicia sat back in her chair and started ticking off her fingers. ‘Dragon, Wampus cat, pixies, werewolf, regular wolf, cat, bowtruckle-‘ she gained a giggle at that last one from Elena. ‘All plausible options. More options possible depending on where he travelled. Or maybe the most dangerous one of all…a crazy ex-girlfriend.’ She added a dramatic look for effect and successfully made all three girls laugh.
After the lecture the tables and benches were moved aside so they had place to stand around in pairs and practice their non-verbal spell work. Alicia didn’t have too much trouble when performing them, but she did have trouble aiming at her friend. She tried to aim for her legs as she used the Jelly-Legs Curse, but they kept ending in her face. Elena looked more and more distraught at the wild flying curses and jinxes. ‘Come on Alicia. Aim for the legs.’ Alicia sighed in frustration. ‘I am! Look.’ She aimed once more at Elena’s legs but at the last moment she was distracted by a moving figure. Her curse went wide again but instead of hitting Elena, she hit someone in the back of the head.
Of course it had to be the professor.
‘I am soooo sorry about that!’ Alicia exclaimed, her hands covering her face. Professor Lupin turned around slowly, rubbing the back of his head. ‘Are you trying to get detention today, Miss Doreen?’ he said. It was supposed to sound threatening, but she couldn’t help but notice some amusement in his tone. Nevertheless she dropped her eyes to the floor. ‘No professor. I am just bad at aiming.’ She dared to look up to see him looking with a curious expression. ‘Well I guess that would be your first task to master then.’ The girl nodded quickly and the professor moved on to the next pair.
Elena shook her hand as if it had been burned. ‘That was close Nessie. I think he really likes you to go so easy on you.’ Alicia shook her head at the nickname. In her fourth year she saved a fellow student from being drowned by an overgrown kelpie and now she had a reputation and a nickname around the school. It wasn’t the real Loch Ness monster though, mind you. ‘Shut it. It’s your turn.’
The class was about to end, the furniture back in place, when Alicia heard her name being spoken. She looked up at her new DADA professor. ‘If you wouldn’t mind staying for a moment,’ he said shortly. Michelle, Elena and Sophia waved her goodbye as they left for lunch in the Great Hall. Soon everyone had gone except the new teacher and the student that was late to class on her first day.
She looked down at him sitting behind his desk. It suddenly felt weird being alone in the room with him. She did actually look at the scars on his face properly for the first time and decided that whatever did that, it were deep wounds when inflicted. His sandy-brown hair fell over his forehead in a feeble attempt to hide a part of his scar. There was light stubble on his face. His wizarding robes looked old but recently refreshed. A dull shine came from his buttons and the small tears in the fabric of his sleeves were darned with a secure hand.
He leaned forward on his desk and looked directly in Alicia’s eyes. ‘I would like to know why you were late today.’ It was a simple request. It made sense. However, Alicia’s mind had already found herself thinking he was going to ask something way more personal. Why would he do that you idiot? She reprimanded her own thoughts.
She exhaled with a shaky laugh. ‘Well, you noticed the scorch marks, right?’ He nodded and his eyes flickered to her long blonde hair before returning to meet her gaze. ‘Uhm…there was an incident in the dungeons near the Slytherin common room. Somehow a fire crab had gotten inside the castle and it was wildly attacking students and sending fireballs from it’s a-rear,’ she confessed.
The professor’s face froze in place. ‘There was a fire crab in the dungeons.’
‘Yep,’ she said, plopping the P.
He stared at her for a moment, maybe expecting her to say more, but she was really distracted by this man. He shook his head and chuckled. The sound of his laughter made Alicia feel warm inside. Wow girl, get your act together will you? ‘And obviously when a fire crab enters the dungeon, you have to deal with it. Is that right?’ Alicia blinked out of her daydream and realised why he found this so peculiar. ‘Ah, right! I forgot to mention a bit about me. You see, professor, I have a passion for magical creatures. I seem pretty good at taming and handling them. This is something the entire school knows because of the famous Leprechaun invasion,’ she noticed his incredulous look but simply replied with, ‘not important. So anyway, the answer is yes. When the Slytherins faced this problem they asked me to deal with it. So I did.’
‘You did?’ he asked, even more surprised than he already was.
‘Yes. Brought it to Hagrid. He knows what to do with them. He might even be featured in his Care of Magical Creatures lessons. Hagrid is so excited to be a teacher this year. The fire crab had quite a temperament though, maybe not so safe after all.’ That last sentence was added as an afterthought.
The professor stared her down for a moment longer before deflating a bit in his chair. Now he really couldn’t stop the smile on his face as he recalled how ridiculous this school could be. ‘Well I guess you were actually quite quick then. You were found by a Slytherin, brought to the dungeons, dealt with the beast and brought it to Hagrid, and in the end you were mere minutes late to class.’
‘It happened during our previous free hour,’ she replied simply.
‘Of course it did,’ the professor said just above a whisper.
Alicia raised an eyebrow. ‘Are you calling me a liar professor? I have many witnesses that can tell you the truth.’
‘No! No I wasn’t implying that. I just think…you are incredible.’
Alicia started blushing at that remark. She cleared her throat and shuffled her shoes. ‘Thank you, Professor Lupin.’
He didn’t seem to realise what he had said. ‘Okay, well thank you for telling me. I will remember it. Next time I face something interesting I will call for you.’ Alicia chuckled at that and looked at the professor again. With that dashing smile on his face she suddenly realised that she found the professor attractive. Oh no. ‘You should. I will be there!’
The professor chuckled once more and started collecting some papers on his desk. ‘Alright, you are dismissed. You should get some lunch.’ Alicia turned to leave. When she walked past his desk, she noticed a book on top. It attracted her attention because it was familiar. ‘Oh this is a good one! I didn’t think it was on the recommended reading list for this year,’ Alicia said.
The professor looked up from his papers to see the girl hovering over his current read. ‘It isn’t. I’m reading it now. Did you read it?’ Alicia turned to see the bookmark already halfway. ‘Yes I did and there are some great plot twists yet to come for you. But chapter five was my favourite part, I see you already read that. When you finish it you should tell me and we can discuss it. There are some holes in the story that I would like to talk with someone about. I want to see how someone else interpreted it.’
The professor looked at her for a moment before replying. ‘I will. That is the second time in our first meeting that you astonish and surprise me.’ His gaze didn’t leave the Ravenclaw girl. Despite her warm cheeks she tried to reply lightly with a joke. ‘Always here to surprise you,’ she said while making a theatrical bow. After another moment of eye contact that send warm shivers down Alicia’s spine she turned to leave the classroom.
