"Daddy." Y/n whispered to Sirius, trying to to disrupt Remus and James' study session across the room.
"Yes, Bunny." Sirius smiled, running a hand over Y/n's head, noticing the tears falling down their cheeks. "What's wrong, My love?" He began to look them over for any injuries, though he doubted that was the case as Y/n had been napping for the past hour.
"I woke up an' bunny is ripped." They sobbed quietly. Their back was facing the two other boys, but they noticed the shake of their shoulders and the worried look plastered on Sirius' face. "I don' know what t' do." They pouted, holding their bunny with gentle hands, careful to not touch the loose stitches on it's leg.
"It's a good thing Papa knows how to sew, huh?" Sirius answered, a soft smile sent Y/n's way, hoping it would help calm them down.
Y/n turned to see both Remus and James already clearing the desk, a small sewing kit placed on the table, and a blanket folded in the center. "I din' mean to bother you." Y/n cried harder, watching as the boys got things all set up.
"You didn't bother us, Bunny." James wrapped Y/n up in a hug, his hands rubbing soothing circles on their back. "What are Bubbies for if not emergency Bunny surgery?" He smiled, taking the bunny from Y/n's hand and placing it on the blanket covered table. "I'll be assisting our doctor, Mr Papa today." He said in a silly voice, making Y/n giggle through their tears.
"Please take a seat, Miss Bunny." Remus said, pulling out the desk chair for them.
The surgery was quick and easy, Remus leaned over Y/n as he carefully stitched the leg's seam back together. The cream coloured thread blending in with the Bunny's fur perfectly. With a finishing knot and a kiss to the healed boo boo, Bunny was handed back.
"Thank you Papa." Y/n smiled, tears now dried, a soft smile plastered on their face as they snuggled their stuffed animal.
"Let's remember to finish our manners." Remus said, giving Y/n a soft but firm look.
"Thank you Daddy, and thank you Bubby." They raced to give both boys a big hug, finally settling into Remus' side as he sat on his bed.
"I think it's time for bed, hm?" Sirius smiled, turning off some lights and getting dressed for bed.
"I'm not sleepy." Y/n yawned, the energy they used up worrying over their bunny clearly coming to bite them in the back. "Maybe jus' a little." They smiled, their cheeks heating up in embarrassment.

it's okay little love[r.l.]
✰ 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: anxiety about regressing, trying to stop the regression process, remmy being the sweetest caregiver(even if you didn't ask)
✰ 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: caregiver!remus lupin x little!gn!reader

✰ 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: you try not to regress all day but everything keeps making you feel small. good thing remmy knows what to do.
✰ 𝐀/𝐍: for all my babies who are scared of telling their s/o they regress. it's okay to be scared but i bet they'll still adore you.

you and remus have been going out for a bit. not long but it was long enough that he knew which shops in diagon alley that you liked most.
or so he thought.
he had no idea you were an age regressor and you planned on keeping it that way. he was the sweetest, you knew that, but the thought of him knowing terrified you. you've had more than you fair share of meanies.
you were comfortably walking around diagon alley, holding your boyfriends hand, when you noticed a new shop. you looked closer and it was a toy store.
oh no.
you squeezed remmy's hand and tried not to bite your nails or nervously scratch your arms.
"y' alrigh' love?" remmy asked, squeezing your hand back. you just nodded and walked a little bit faster past the shop, remus matching your pace.
you slowed down and let out a breath. remus looked at you as if to ask "you sure you're okay?" to which you just nodded again.
"i'm fine remus. just saw... um, someone from school. just didn't wanna run into them is all," you lied.
he looked at you questioningly but let it go.
but once you saw the toy store it seemed everything was going to trigger your regression.
"i... need to use the toilet." you told remus, letting go of his hand. "i'll be back."
remus nodded and smiled. "alright. i have a store to go to that i'm not sure you'll like. i'll do that and be right back."
you smiled at your boyfriend and went to the bathroom, trying to keep yourself big. big kid thoughts. like taxes.
you came out after a few minutes and remus was outside, as he said he would be, with a paper bag in his hand.
"what'cha got there?" you asked. even though he said you wouldn't like the store you were still curious.
"nothing darling. how about some ice cream?" he suggested. "it's the best ice cream in london darling." he said excitedly. "just a scoop then we'll go back t'mine yeah?"
you smiled at his excitement and nodded in agreement. "alright. i can go for some ice cream." you agreed.
you and remus got your ice creams from florean fortescue and made your way back to his house. you two took the tube in london, taking it as far as you were allowed, and walked the rest of the way to his house in the country.
it wasn't too terrible a trip but you nervously tried to stop yourself from regressing. you were quieter than usual and remus noticed.
he draped an arm over your shoulders and squeezed your arm a bit. you're safe with me.
his parents weren't home, for which you were grateful, and you sat on his bed with him.
"y'know..." he started slowly. "i got you something while we were in diagon alley.
you were confused because he didn't say anything. "oh, remus... i didn't get you anything."
he shook his head and handed you the paper bag. "don't worry about that. i just... um... i think you should open it." he nodded toward the bag.
he seemed nervous about your reaction as you opened it. you kept an eye on remus as you opened the back and gasped at the stuffie remus bought for you.
it was the softest little niffler plush, as well as the cutest. "i love it remmy!" you squealed, nearly tackling your boyfriend to the ground.
"you gonna name it?" he asked. oh he knew what he was doing now... and you absolutely loved it!
you sat back on his bed and shrugged. "mmm, i dunno. wet's name 'im together." you smiled. remus sat next to you and draped an arm across your shoulders.
"hm..." remus tapped a finger against his chin in mock thought. "well, let's think. what are some of your absolute favorite things in the whole world?"
you made a face. "in da whole wide worl'?" you asked, to which remmy nodded. "wet's name 'im... remmy."
"remmy sounds like a good name, i like it."
"it's yours silly goose!" you giggled.
"mine?" he asked. "why, i've never heard it."
"silly goose."
"just know, it's okay little love. i still love you."
your little lip wobbled and you squeezed remus as hard as you could. "tanks 'emmy. luv u so so mush."
"i love you too."

The Drink Snob (part 2)
Mafia AU!Remus Lupin x fem!reader - 4.5k
p1 // p2 // p3 // p4
CW: Brief description of blood, mention of crimes, past kidnapping, family dynamics, mention past death of a parent, pressure from friends to date, use of Y/N
Remus tried to ignore the snickering coming from the two men at the kitchen table as he scrubbed the blood from his hands, using the brush to get under his nails.
“It’s not even that funny in theory, it’s just that it’s so un-Moony like that makes it funny.” James giggled, actually giggled, like a schoolgirl. Remus could kill him.
“Wait, wait, wait.” Lily’s voice, authoritative and deep compared to James’ snickering, jumped in. “You’re telling me the plan was almost foiled because Remus got distracted flirting with a girl at the bar?”
“Not only was the plan nearly foiled, Red,” Sirius offered between fits of laughter, “the dumb bloke nearly died.”
“I didn’t nearly die.” Remus spat under his breath.
“His drink was spiked whilst he was busy ogling the bird – she had to stop him from taking a swig!” James completed, howling in laughter.
Lily brought her hand up to her mouth in an ill attempt to hide her amusement as she turned her gaze to the guilty man. “Oh, Remus.”
“We caught the bastard, didn’t we?” He barked, swatting James and Sirius on the back of their heads as he took a place at the kitchen table beside Harry. “Besides, James, you’re not supposed to refer to women as birds.” Remus enunciated, causing James to wince as he correctly presumed the whack of a tea towel was headed his way from his wife.
“Right you are, Remus. This is why you’re my favourite.” She said, winking at him. The other two men scoffed in mock outrage.
“But he almost blew the whole stake out!” James cried at the same time as Sirius countered with “I nearly blow all our missions because of my flirting, why am I not your favourite?”
Lily rolled her eyes as a third voice popped up.
“You’re no one’s favourite Sirius, I can’t believe you still haven’t figured that out.” Regulus muttered as he placed a kiss to Lily’s head before moving to the table to place a matching one on James and Harry’s.
Sirius scoffed, “and no kiss either. I see how it is.” He said as he crossed his arms.
“Awe, Pads! If you wanted kisses, you only had to ask!” James hollered as he threw himself at his best friend and left loud, smacking kisses across his face.
“Ew! Get off of me! This is like incest!” Sirius screeched.
Regulus rolled his eyes and turned to Remus. “Wanting a kiss from his actual brother is fine but his friend giving him a kiss is incest?”
“Stop trying to figure Sirius out, Reg, there’s no logic.” Remus countered with a smile.
Remus was glad, really, that life turned out the way it had for him. He wasn’t always, mind you; having been thrown into the world of underground crime at an early age after his father, with hopes for a political career, accidentally offended a well-known crime lord in Southern UK. In retaliation, Remus had been abducted and initiated into their mob at only twelve years old and was only reunited with his father and mother at fifteen once his dad had turned to crime after the police claimed there was ‘nothing they could do’ to bring their son back home.
Then, when he was 17, he met James and Sirius. They both came from money, and both had very different experiences as a result. James was somewhat spoilt but extremely loving and eager to spread the wealth. Sirius, on the other hand, had pushed back against his birth family as hard as he could before he finally left to stay with the Potter’s full time.
His younger brother, Reg, followed a few years later, and they’ve been with James and his parents ever since. James met Lily studying in University; Reg became enamoured with her just as quickly, though much more quietly than James had, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The options for Remus’ family were slim to none after moving from Wales to London in order for him to attend school. University had not been in the plans for him as the Lupin family came from almost nothing, but they had earned enough in the mob to secure him a spot anyhow. They had hoped to leave the lifestyle behind them, but their resume was lacking after spending years in crime. Eventually, it was Remus’ mother, Hope Lupin, who found Effie which introduced Remus and his father into the Potter Agency.
A legal corporation with less than legal methods; they liked to believe they were some of the good guys.
The term ‘good’ is used lightly, of course.
There’s crime, theft, assault, torture, and sometimes even death, but they don’t do it for the money or notoriety – not really.
Potter & Son’s Corporations acts as the authority when the police lose control of the situation. So much of the crime that takes place is through drugs and laundering – the kinds of things that the police are more than happy to turn a blind eye to so long as they’re being paid.
But when police are being paid off, other crimes – such as trafficking – start happening, and the police often find that their hands are “tied”.
So, Potter & Son’s deal with it, and it helps.
At least that’s what Remus tells himself.
He understood why Sirius and James stayed. Neither had a choice really, much like himself, but Sirius made the choice of the lesser of two evils – chaotic good (Potter's) versus chaotic evil (The Black family). As for James; this was his family business. He was Potter & Son before it became Son’s to accommodate Sirius, and later Reg and finally Remus. This was James’ legacy, and he now had a wife, a boyfriend and a son to continue protecting, and he did that by staying.
Remus stayed because, well, it’s all there really is for him. Any background-check a potential employer could run on him would not only take him out of the running so fast, but they’d also likely even report him. His mom and dad had their part – running one of the many restaurants in the city that acted as the front for Potter & Son’s.
But Remus wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
Not even the stranger – flustered, music theory, Disney quoting, sailor level swearing stranger that singlehandedly nearly killed him and then saved him within the span of two hours.
She had been overwhelmingly distracting, and James was right; Remus was usually the one at attention always. He never got distracted on missions – that’s why he took the position in the bar to wait on the dirty fuck. James is overly friendly and likely to get distracted by any Tom, Dick or Nancy that walked through the door – and God forbid there’s a pub cat present. Sirius can’t stop flirting with anything with a heartbeat for more than a second, and he stands out a little too much anyway due to his last name.
Hence, Remus goes in.
Only to be utterly enchanted by a foreign PhD student whose nose was cold bitten red and her hair thoroughly crumpled from her obvious pulling. Remus tried to ignore her; he really did. He even thought he did a pretty good job when her damned pencil skirt rode up and exposed more of her tight-clad thighs as she sat on the barstool. He even ignored the way she played with her bottom lip between her thumb and index finger as she waited for the bartender to notice her.
But then she had to go and order a fucking negroni alongside a pint of beer.
If she hadn’t looked like she tasted so sweet, Remus is sure he would have gagged outloud.
And really, what is a proper Welsh bloke like him ought to do when he sees a crime against alcohol take place before his very eyes? By-stander he is not, good sir.
But it didn’t matter. It had been too close. It was foolish. And dangerous. For both of them.
He may not be able to save her from Gilderoy Lockhart, but he could save her from this.
Regulus decided this was the perfect time to interrupt Remus’ inner ramblings. “So, when are you seeing her next?”
He stared at him dumbly. “Excuse me?”
“The girl, when are you seeing her next?” He clarified as he popped a cracker into his mouth.
“Come on, Moony, don’t tell me you didn’t close the deal!” Sirius commented from across the table.
“What? I- no. No, there was no deal to be closed, you prat.” Remus muttered for Sirius’ benefit. “It wasn’t like that.”
“‘It wasn’t like that’ he says, like he wasn’t wrapped around her little finger for two hours as she waxed poetic about the architecture of Manchester.” James sing songed.
“What” Remus sputtered, “she did not talk about Manchester architecture, James.”
“But you were wrapped around her finger?”
“Not that either!” He shouted. “Enough, it wasn’t like that, I’m not seeing her again. End of discussion.”
“Mm, kay, counter point: discussion not ended. What do you mean you’re not seeing her again?” Lily interjected.
“I mean exactly that – I’m not seeing her again.”
“Rem,” Lily started softly, and he groaned knowing she was about to go all mama-bird on him. “When’s the last time you fancied someone like that? You’ve guffawed at everyone I’ve ever tried to set you up with.”
“Because they were all dull.” Remus muttered apparently not quietly enough as he was smacked up the back of his head.
“And you’ve never found yourself distracted on a job before. That has to mean something, right? Why not give it a shot?” She asked gently.
Remus chose to ignore the second part of her sentence altogether for the benefit of everyone. “Exactly, I’ve never been distracted on a job before. Something is clearly wrong with me, I think maybe we should all be a little bit more worried about that, hm?”
Everyone rolled their eyes and turned back to their various tasks. For James, that meant holding a raspberry competition with his infant son, Reg and Sirius began rough housing which quickly turned into an actual knife fight, and Lily back to restocking the medicine cabinet.
It was one job – I’m fine. I’ll likely never see her again. Remus thought to himself.
He tried not to let that thought upset him.
He failed.
Tumblr media
Your encounter with The Man ™ as you’d started calling him in your head continued to bother you throughout the week. You thought you had been doing a pretty decent job keeping it from your thoughts: you guest lectured with no hiccups, your playing didn’t seem to be impacted and you kept up in orchestra well, and you even managed a facetime with your best friend Elle back home.
Apparently zoning out in the middle of grading with your pen in your mouth was what finally gave you away.
“Miss. L/N?” Minerva called.
You quickly sat up straight. “Hm? I’m so sorry Professor, I-”
She waved you off with a kind smile. “My dear, I’ve told you to call me Minerva – as a PhD student, you’re more like my colleague than you are my student. I only meant to ask what has you so distracted. Are the first-year level quizzes on the basics of composition not riveting enough for you?” She asked gently, though her tone was often lost in her thick, stern sounding Scottish accent.
“Sorry Pro- I mean, Minerva.” You caught yourself at her stern look. “I was just thinking that no one would know if I was missing.”
Minerva dropped her pen and sat straight.
“My dear, what has you concerned. Has something-” she began to ask, but you cut her off.
“No, no. I’m fine, I just realized – if I go to a pub after school one day and something happens, no one will know to look for me. There’s no one at my apartment waiting for me at the end of the day, the landlord wouldn’t care until the end of the month when my rent was late, and even then, it’d be a while before she did anything about that. Students come and go from your life every day – if I wasn’t available to help grading or lecturing, you’d ask someone else. And that would be it. My friends back home would only realize I hadn’t been answering messages and would assume I’ve been busy.”
You looked up from the carpet where you had been zoned out.
“And I don’t say any of that for sympathy. I just mean, well, someone ought to know – you know?”
Minerva considered your words before nodding slowly.
“I’d notice. The second I had to settle for Mr. Lockhart’s subpar grading or lecturing.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle at the matriarch.
“Put me down as your emergency contact.” She added.
“I’m sorry?”
“With the school. And at your apartment. In your phone too if you can. Put me as your emergency contact. I’ll know then if anything happens.” She stated plainly as if she hadn’t just offered you an actual lifeline in Europe when you were thousands of kilometers from anyone who gave a damn about you.
“Thank you, Minerva.” You said softly.
The corner of her mouth quirked up, but she never moved her gaze from her papers.
“You’re very welcome, Y/N.”
Tumblr media
You sat in your apartment – or you supposed you should call it a flat, you were in England after all – and watched traffic outside of the window while you replayed your conversation with Elle.
“I’m just worried about you is all.” She said.
You rolled your eyes as you held the phone between your ear and shoulder and loaded the washing machine.
“Why?”
“Why? Because! You’re all alone out there in a tiny apartment in a big city where you don’t know anyone!”
“Elle, I don’t see how that’s any different than what I had been doing last year. I did the exact same thing in New York, and you didn’t seem this concerned then.” You chided.
“Well-” she started. “Well, that was different.”
“How?”
“Because you were at least on the same continent as me. It was maybe a three-hour flight versus an eight. What else do you want me to say, Y/N?”
You sighed and threw your head back.
“I don’t want you to say anything Elle, I just don’t understand why we’re having this conversation.”
“It’s been almost six months.”
You stopped and stared at your reflection in the bathroom mirror. The six-month anniversary of your mom’s death was next week; you were well aware of that. It showed on your body, too, and you were glad Elle couldn’t see you now. You looked pale; your hair was dirty and piled messily on top of your head in a bun, though some locks were doing their damnedest to break free. Your clothes seemed to hang off your body in a way that hadn’t before as well; you made a mental note to figure that out at some point.
“What about it?” You muttered, leaving the offending mirror behind you, and moving through your apartment (flat).
“Y/N/N, I just don’t think it’s healthy to be sitting in that apartment all alone. I mean, I know you haven’t been keeping in as much touch with the others, which is fair,” She emphasized the end as you began to defend yourself. “They don’t understand what it’s like to lose a parent or the intricacies of grad school, but still, it’s been noticed. And you haven’t dated since, what, Brian?”
“Brandon.” You corrected bitterly.
“Exactly, and how many years has that been?”
You moved your reading glasses to the top of your head and scrubbed your hand down your face. You loved Elle, you really did. But she was the kind of person to throw herself at life without self-reflection and that just wasn’t your style. She also lived by the motto that we were put on this earth to find our “other half”, and that all of lifes problems can be solved by finding someone to spend it with, which was another thing you just couldn’t get behind.
So, yes, it had been six years since your last relationship, and seeing as you weren’t the type to date around, you’d been single the entire time.
But you’ve been happy.
You and your mom travelled a bit when she was still healthy. You attended Julliard to complete your master’s in music and spent time living in New York City. You played with the New York Philharmonic and in orchestra halls across North America. You went to the fucking Tony awards (as a seat filler, mind you, but still)!
“I just worry, Y/N. I mean, next thing I know, you’ll be telling me you’ve gotten yourself a cat or two!” She jested.
Your gaze shot to Huckleberry, the long-haired tom-cat you recently rescued from the local humane society, who was currently curled up on a throw blanket on your couch which you had yet to inform Elle about. You figured it could probably wait until your next chat with her.
“Don’t worry about me too much, Elle.” You sighed as you gave the feline a pat across the head.
“Someone has to.”
You fought the urge to groan – you knew she wasn’t trying, but this conversation was turning out to be more painful than you needed right now. The last thing you needed to be reminded of was how completely alone you were on this planet. If not for Elle and a few of your other mutual friends, you’d literally have Huckleberry and Minerva for company. And, God forbid, Gilderoy.
“I’ll talk to you later Elle.”
“Okay Y/N/N, be safe. Love you!”
“Love you.” You added before you hung up.
Part of you wondered if she was right about some things. Aren’t you meant to be meeting people? Making friends? That’s what people do when they relocate, right?
You looked at your phone which sat on the couch behind you. It never lights up; no one’s looking for you.
You didn’t much fancy downloading an app – it felt phony, like you were trying to sell yourself to someone. How else did people meet other people these days though?
School? Already there. Work?
Work.
I could get a job.
You’ve been comfortable. Between funding from school and your mother’s life insurance, you hadn’t been too concerned for money though you had been living somewhat frugally. You supposed it wouldn’t hurt to have some pocket money, and maybe make a dent in your never-ending student loans.
I'll get a job then.
You’ve served at bars in Toronto and New York throughout school and worked as a waitress at different diners. Most people didn’t like working the service industry, but you didn’t much mind it; in cities that large, people are always in a hurry to get to somewhere else and don’t often stay long enough to really gather your interest.
It’d be even better if I could find a job that involved music.
Part of you still felt like an imposter.
You’re working on your PhD, you studied music at Julliard, and played in world-renowned orchestras, but you still felt like you had no right holding a seat in the industry.
Fucking Gilderoy wasn’t helping that either. You thought darkly.
“Right,” You told yourself aloud. “One thing at a time.”
And you looked up job opportunities online.
Tumblr media
The smell of garlic permeated Remus’ senses as he and Sirius stepped into his parent’s restaurant.
Remus worked for a damn mob, yet somehow, his white-Welsh parents operating an Italian restaurant left him feeling dirty – though, his Da was always quick to state he was 37% Italian on his mother’s side, whatever that meant.
He followed the sound of cursing and found his mum in her office.
“Oi, mum, who has you so wound up? I want names and addresses.” Sirius said as he plopped himself down onto one of the chairs opposite of Hope Lupin’s desk and kicked his Doc Marten clad feet up onto it.
“Sirius, I love you, but it’ll be your name and address I give out if you don’t get your sodding feet of my desk.” Hope stated sweetly without looking up from the papers on her desk. “Hi, cariad’s.”
“Hey mum, what’re you working on?” Remus replied as he sat (properly) in the chair beside Sirius.
She sighed and turned to look at the two boys. “Well, you remember the issues we were having with our new hire last week?”
Sirius looked up from his phone at this. “Hot Stephanie?”
Hope rolled her eyes, “Yes, Stephanie. Well, we had to let her go.”
“Awe mum, I’m sorry. Do you need a hand around here until you find more help?” Remus asked quickly.
Hope turned a soft smile in her son’s direction, her green eyes crinkling in the corners. “As much as I’d love having you around, cariad, I’m still recovering from you and James helping out last summer.”
Remus grimaced while Sirius barked a laugh. He and James had their strengths – but working the service industry apparently wasn’t one of them.
“Besides, I’ve got a few good candidates here I think.” She said and gestured to a pile of CVs on her desk. “This lass sounds promising.”
“Yes, mummykins! Hire another hottie for us.” Sirius cheered.
“That’s enough out of you.” Hope chided as she swatted him with her stack of resumes. “She’s got plenty of experience in restaurants and bars, and she may even be able to offer live music for us!”
“That’s sweet of you Hope, giving jobs to starving artists.” Sirius said looking back at his phone.
“She did look a little peaky.” Hope admitted, “But I’m sure that’s on account of her recent move. She’s American.”
“What?” Remus snapped.
His mum hummed. “Yup, she went to Julliard, served as a bartender and server in Toronto and New York pubs. She should work out really well!”
“Let me see this.” Remus muttered, snatching the CV unceremoniously from my mother’s hands.
Y/N L/N. University of Toronto / The Julliard School / Royal College of Music. Guest lecturer, experience in classical and contemporary performance and composition, teacher’s assistant, bartender, and server. The names of the various restaurants and bars you worked at were listed but they blurred in his vision.
“What has gotten into you, cariad.” Hope gently chided as she took the CV back from his hands.
“What did she look like?” Remus spat.
“Pardon me?”
Remus described you; he described your skin tone – a match. Your eyes? A match. Your hair colour and length? A match.
“Shorter?”
Hope rolled her eyes. “Not everyone can be as tall as you and your father, Remus.”
“Mum, answer the question.”
She scoffed. “Yes, I suppose she was a little short.”
“You can’t hire her.”
“Excuse me?” She asked incredulously.
“Oh my God.” Sirius finally interjected, taking the CV from Hope’s hands. “Is this The Girl?”
“The girl?” She asked.
Remus snatched the CV back out of Sirius’ hands and placed it back in the pile onto his mum’s desk.
“Who’s The Girl?” Hope asked, but it was obvious she was asking Sirius.
“Oh, you should have seen it, Mum. We were on a stake out for one of McCormick’s crew at The Drunken Sailor, and Remus got all caught up chatting this pretty little lady at the bar. He didn’t even notice-”
“I didn’t even notice that the bloke had come in until he went to leave.” Remus interrupted, not wanting to worry his mum by telling her how close he came to dying.
“Right...” Sirius continued, squinting his eyes at Remus. “Anyways, looks like you found The Girl who distracted our darling Remus here.”
Hope’s gaze was full of mirth as she turned to look at her son.
“So, you meet my dream employee at a bar one night and don’t even introduce me?”
“Mum, it wasn’t like that.” Remus whined, thoroughly annoyed by this conversation.
“Fine, but I’m sorry cariad, she’s the only one who applied who was worth my time, in fact, she’s likely overqualified. I’m arranging an interview.”
Remus sighed in defeat. So much for keeping her out of this mess.
Continue to part three here 🥃

Oooo darling!! Your latest TASM fic sparked and idea!
(Before that, hello lovely 🩷 i hope you're having the best spooky season!)
Big brother!Sirius coming to save some poor sod that upset his slytherin!sister (Regulus' twin). So you have the charming & fun Sirius; quiet & regal Regulus; loyal & volatile reader. And i imagine Sirius calls them his twin stars (because hes deffinately a huge sap).
Where wolfstar is in 7th year and has a great relationship with the twins (maybe theyre trying to become their legal guardians behind the scenes). He and Remus are in their dorm before Peter bursts in, breathless, only saying "y/n" before Sirius is off. He has no doubt to why you were put in 🐍, and god forbid someone actually hurt his baby sister.
On reader's side, someone made a snide comment about Remmy being a halfblood or ruining the Black legacy or something and reader gets pissed because shes actually quite fond of him.
Then whatever you decide love; maybe reader gets hurt; maybe she does the hurting; maybe Remus saves the day with his long legs; or Sirius might show people what growing up in the 'Noble house of Black' does to someone. And idk what Reggie is doing, i imagine he was making out with James and they come in at the last minute ("😱 james!! What have you done!? Youve DEFILED one of my precious stars!!! Let go of him!!!! NO, dont touch him, get away.")
Anyway bub, as always; dont feel pressured and take all the creative liberties youd like!! Love you lots darling x
Hi my lovely, thanks for requesting! I really need to get more creative than bloody noses but ugh they're just so classic
cw: blood
big brother!sirius + (as opposed to x, I guess?) little sister!reader ♡ 861 words
“You weren’t there!” you insist as Sirius stalks back and forth across the room, tapping his wand against his leg in a quick, restless beat. “He said—he—” You look at Remus, the boy’s eyebrows drawn together in concentration and concern as he presses a cloth under your nose, trying to stop the blood that’s already crusted down your chin. You decide to keep your mouth shut.
Remus smiles wryly, and you know he suspects why you’ve chosen to go quiet. “It doesn’t matter what they said, love. I don’t need you getting in fights for me.”
“Who was it?” Sirius demands, for probably the fourth or fifth time. You’re losing count.
“It’s already been hand—ah!” Remus murmurs an episky while you’re distracted, and you flinch, hands flying to your face as your septum snaps back into its proper place. “Fuck, could’a given me some warning.”
“Sorry,” Remus says, and he looks like he means it, tilting your chin up to continue cleaning your face as you look at him with teary eyes. “Thought it might hurt less if you weren’t expecting it.”
“How do you figure?” you ask him, somewhat miffed.
“Back. On. Task.” Sirius claps his hands with each word, coming to a stop in front of you. “Who did this? Remus is my boyfriend, I have twice as much a right to defend his honor as you do, you—you fucking—squirt.”
You sneer at the childish name, but you know your brother means to rile you. “I told you, I handled it. He won’t do it again.”
“And he’s never going to touch you again either,” Sirius promises menacingly, squatting in front of you to look you in the eyes, “if you just tell me the fucker’s name.”
“Alright, that’s enough,” Remus says, taking his boyfriend’s shoulder in a spindly hand, the touch both soothing and controlling as he pushes Sirius back from you. “Let’s just let her rest for a minute, yeah?” Sirius sputters in protest, but Remus moves in front of him, pressing his face into his boyfriends’ dark locks. You roll your eyes at the display, though a tiny part of you loves that your brother has someone who loves him this well. Once he quiets, Remus speaks in a low, soothing voice. “I know, I know, you won’t be deterred from your vengeance, but there’s time for that later. Let’s just calm down for now.”
It’s a lovely prospect, but at that moment, the door opens to reveal Regulus and James, both looking somewhat ruffled. James stops short at seeing you all gathered in his dorm (Remus and Sirius, of course, have every right to be here, but you’d bet he and Reg were hoping for some privacy) and stands there blinking for a moment. Your twin’s blasé facade slips the moment he sees you with blood still crusted to your nostrils and tear tracks down your face.
“What happened?” he asks, pushing past James and into the dorm.
“She got into a fight,” Sirius says, outrage instantly rekindled, and Remus sighs in exasperated resignation, his work undone. “Someone said something about Moony, but she won’t tell who.”
Now James looks upset too, eyes darting to Remus concernedly. “About Moony? When?”
“Just now!” Sirius throws up his hands. “Ten minutes ago! Did either of you see anything?”
James shakes his head, and despite Regulus’ blank expression, you catch the embarrassed shifting of his stance. “No,” James says, “we were, uh…we didn’t see anything.”
“I bet I know who it was though,” Regulus offers, that traitorous scum. He’s just throwing you under the bus to take the heat off himself.
It works; Sirius perks up. “Yeah? Who?”
“It doesn’t matter who,” you say, but Sirius cuts you off, facing your twin.
“Who?” he asks.
“It was the guy you were arguing with yesterday too, right?” Reg glances at you for confirmation, and you glare at him. Don’t you dare, your look says, but he nods and turns back to Sirius. “He’s your year, the one you guys call Sni—”
“Reg and James were coming in here to have sex!” you blurt.
It’s a wonder Sirius doesn’t get whiplash from how fast he turns around. “What?”
You nod, unable to feel guilty as Regulus gives you an appalled look from behind your older brother. “Mhm,” you say. “Their hair is all messed up, and look—their lips are swollen. Plus, they were surprised we were in here.”
You do feel a tiny bit bad for James, whose dark skin blanches when Sirius turns on him. “James Potter, did you come in here to defile my brother?”
James looks to Remus for help, but his friend only turns his palms up like Sorry, what can you do?. After a second, Regulus steps closer to him.
“Sirius, we—”
“Don’t touch him,” Sirius practically retches. He shakes his head, grabbing Regulus by the arm and all but dragging him from the room. “Alright, listen. You are going to tell me who was talking shit about Remus, and then we’re going to have an entirely separate conversation about boundaries.” He casts a noxious look back at James. “And I’ll deal with you later!”

Smut ahead! minors DNI!! 🤺🤺
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SFW:
Remus won’t admit it, but he LOVES those nicknames you give him. Rem, Remmy, etc. Only his friends can call him Mooney, it sounds weird to him when you do.
he loves you so much it actually hurts. Would do anything for you tbh.
He reads to you, you’ll lay on his chest, your arms wrapped around his waist, your legs tangled with each others, whispering the words to you.
He also likes when you read to him, he just likes your voice, likes listening to you talk about things you like.
loves when you get excited about stuff, whether it’s about your interests or something cool you learned.
Gets mad when ppl cut you off while your talking, or when ppl don’t listen to you.
“and then it got really interesting cause the main character went into this cave and-“ you said, excited to talk about your new book that you’ve been reading, when all of a sudden, someone cut you off causing your smile to fade and for you to drop your head.
“anyways.. like i was saying-“ they started to say before- “shut the fuck up. Don’t cut her off, mate.” Remus scoffed before he turned back to you, grabbing your hand and kissing your temple. “and what happened after the MC went into the cave, love?” he asked making you smile.
When your on your period, he definitely shares his chocolate with you(and only you) he cuddles with you and doesn’t leave your side.
During full moons, he kinda avoids around this time because he’s moody and doesn’t wanna hurt you.
After he gets back from a full moon however, he lets you take care of him because poor baby is so vulnerable and tired:(
“There ya go.. Relax rem, everything’s gonna be okay..” you coo, as you wipe the dried blood from his back, making him hiss at the warm water hitting his wounds.
“You’re so good to me, dove.” he whispered making you smile, “don’t know what i’d do without ya, you’re my guardian angel.” he praised making you blush and smile widely, kissing his lips softly.
:((
NSFW:
Remember how i said he’s moody during the full moon? Well that goes with being horny too 🤭🤭
When y’all have sex, it’s usually slow and passionate. But during the full moon, it’s fast and rough, not like you mind anyways.
“Oh.. Remmy!” you cry as he thrusted fast and rough into you. “shh, it’s alright dove..you can take one more f’me, yeah? My pretty girl can handle it.” he praised as he rammed into you making you moan out.
“My pretty girl- oh, my sweet, sweet girl.” he praised, gripping onto your hips, leaving his finger prints indented into your flesh.
He’d def feel bad about “hurting you” after the full moon ends. So he’d make it up too you. :)
his tongue over lapping at your cunt had you arching your back and whining.”such a pretty cunt, dove.. pretty, just like you.”He said, gripping onto your thighs to keep you down.
If he’s feeling up to his sometimes, he’ll let Sirius get a taste, if your comfortable with it of course. He wants to show you off, especially when it comes to showing people what he gets to fuck.
Such a soft!dom but as his moments where he’s a hard!dom
remember how i said he likes to read to you? he loves to read book lines into your ear while he fucks you from behind 🦋🦋
sirius black x danceteacher!reader
summary; romance blossoms between you and (whom you would never admit) your favorite student's brother (he has custody over her) after she tells you all about what he tells her Uncle Remmy.
warnings; sirius black has an adorable little sister, reader is a dance teacher, shy sirius black, romance
a/n; i assistant teach for the younger kids at my dance studio, and I came up with this fic during class, lol.
Part 1!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good job, girlies! Have a great weekend!" You called out to the array of 7-9 year olds standing on the dance floor. They all started to pack up their things, a young, curly blonde haired girl came skipping up to you, smiling adorably up at you.
"Ms. Y/N! Ms. Y/N!" She jumped up and down excitedly. "Yes, Luna?" You turned around to face her. "My big brother wants to know how old you are!" You crouched down to her level, "Your... Brother?" You wanted to make sure you heard her right. You'd certainly seen her brother, and he was... not bad, (ifykyk). "Yeah! I overheard him talking to my Uncle Remmy about how pretty he thinks you are, so I thought I'd help him out by asking you how old you were!" She explained, It was cute, but your mind raced a hundred miles per hour as you tried to comprehend what this little girl was telling you. "Well... tell your brother thank you..." You struggled, trying to find the best way to respond, clearing your throat. "How old is your brother, Luna?" You questioned, seeing as all the other kids had gotten picked up by parents. "He's... twenty!" She answered with a smile. "Tell your brother I'm nineteen" She squealed, giving you a sweet hug and running off to the door, but stopped before reaching it. "Are you married?" She tilted her head to the side. You chuckled softly, "No, Luna" She squealed longer and louder before running off to Remus.
"Hey, Luns, how was class?" He held her hand through the parking lot. "Good, I talked to Ms. Y/N for Siri." She shrugged happily. "Oh? And what did you talk to her about?" He chuckled, looking down at her.
"I asked what age she was,"
"Why?" He chuckled
"Oh, You know! Just to make sure she was close to Siri's age."
"Oh." He responded, surprised
She sat down in the car, talking Remus' ear off. "I seriously think I've found him a girlfriend! She's gonna be my sister!" She squealed
"Dont get ahead of yourself, Luns." He reasoned, "They've barely spoken, No?" Sirius was gonna be pissed.
They opened up the door to Sirius' flat, She obviously came skipping in. "Siri! Siri!" She called, running up to hug her brother. "Hey, Dove. How was your class tonight?" He asked with a sweet smile, He had the biggest sweet spot for his sister. "So good"
"OH! By the way, Ms. Y/N says thank you, and that she's nineteen"
"S-Sorry?"
"And shes not married"
"Luna!!"
"What? I was helping you."
"You told her?? Luna!"
"Sorry, Thought you thought she was pretty~"
"Shut it, Luna!"
And Sirius Black was left blushing the rest of the day.
Hey, saw you wanted head cannon requests so I am here to give some.
So a little who loves fall! Apples, leaves, smells, cider, halloween, bats, costumes, all of it! I love fall so so much, so I think fall headcanons would be so cute!
I personally like the marauders, but I know you don't write for them all the time, plus I also like others! (And I can't pick lol) so steve/bucky, to steve/eddie, to Marauders, I love them all so much and I love how you write them!
I personally am masc/enby so if your ok with writing the headcanons either masc or enby that'd be great, but if not, fem works, too.
I love your writing either way. Have a nice day! Or night!
. ☆ . ☾ . ☆ . ☽ . ☆ . ☾ . ☆ . ☽ . ☆ .
The boys, especially Remus, love fall. It's pretty, and it's still nice enough outside to go for walks, but also cool enough that a cup of tea and it's steam helps warm a chilled nose.
The three of them loved it even more after they met you, a true Fall Fan. You loved every aspect of it, the apple orchard, the pumpkin patch, halloween, falling leaves, everything.
So the boys dive head first into fall now that you're stuck by their sides.
They 100% plan group halloween costumes! They'll buy everything they need from the thrift store, and they'll sew things/glue things if need be. You get to pick what the theme is, but you leave the adult stuff like hot glue, sewing needles, and the pain of having to somehow make retractable bat wings to them.
They definitely hand out buckets of candy to the others in the dorm, making sure you get to go trick or treating from room to room. Filling your pillow case with small snacks that are somehow all your favorite things ...
Remus is a amateur photographer, so when fall comes around he makes you, Sirius, and James all pose in different ways for his portfolio. He does his best to capture the movement right when you throw leaves in the air, and he tries his best to get the three of you to do some more serious poses.
James loves going apple picking, he did it as a kid and couldn't wait to take you. All four of you walk around from tree to tree picking different apples to take home, warm apple cider in your hands, well their hands, they won't let you hold the cup since it didn't come with a lid.
Sirius is the perfect companion to carve pumpkins with. He's good at art, and so every time you come up with some crazy idea for a carving he's already rolling up his sleeves and grabbing his sketch pad.
Walks through the castle grounds become your favorite thing. Kicking through leaf piles, or jumping in them. Finding pretty leaves to hang in your dorm room window. Fighting with James over who found the biggest leaf (it was you, but you said he won so he wouldn't be sad)
The boys definitely surprise you with little fall gifts here and there. A pair of black cat socks one day, a mug shaped like a pumpkin on a random Thursday, a bat stuffed animal another day. You cherish them with your whole heart, and jump up and down every time they say they have a surprise.
They take turns making up fall related bedtime stories, Sirius' are always sort of scary, James' are silly every time, and Remus' you swear should become a children's book writer because his are the most well rounded.
All in all fall with the boys is the best time of the year. It's action packed, and full of little adventures, and it's a season stuffed to the brim with fun activities.
Champange Problems / Sirius Black
Inspired by Little Women (2019)
A click resounded through the room, followed by a soft flicker of light. Sirius groaned as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, yawning as he scratched the skin just under his jaw.
He squinted; his gaze settling on your figure as you paced around the room. Noticing that he was awake, you halted all of your movements. You always hated the fact that he was a light sleeper.
“Sirius.”
You spoke his name with an air of seriousness, and he couldn’t help but feel his nerves creep up on him. He didn’t know why, and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to know. You trembled under his stare, his eyes darting to the letter that you held tightly in your hands. “What’s that?”
Gulping, you pressed your lips into a thin line. “I’m.. it’s for Aunt March. She’s very ill.”
A crease formed on his forehead, and worry etched itself on his face. It was a surprise how he was still so expressive, despite his past living circumstances.
“Come here.”
He patted the space close to him, and you complied with his wishes, slowly setting yourself down on the foot of his bed. It seems as though sadness has coursed through your veins at that very moment, threading onto your very being as you looked down at your lap; pushing down your tears.
Sirius sat back, carefully tucking your hands underneath his, letting the envelope fall astray. “What is it?” He asked.
His touch had always set your skin ablaze, yet this time around, it felt different. It didn’t soothe the pounding in your heart, nor the defeaning ringing inside of your ears. “She doesn’t have anyone else. I am to take care of her.”
“That wouldn’t be too bad, right?”
You sighed, gnawing at your bottom lip as dread crept up your insides, tearing you apart as the moments pass. Finally looking up at him, you laughed, humor barely visible in your tone. “No. Not if she doesn’t force me to marry a wealthy man.”
His handsome face was pulled into a frown, “Why would—?”
You shook your head.
“I’m going to have to fly to Europe soon. I can’t keep her waiting.”
Nodding in response, he passed you a look of sympathy, one that you couldn’t bear to have received. Not from him, at least.
As if he had thought of an idea to try and make light of the situation, he cracked a small, dopey smile.
“If that’s your only concern, then we can fly out there together. Marry me.”
Your eyes widened in shock, sensing some truth in his words. They felt like a dagger straight to your chest— its blade shoving its way through your throat, gutting you from the inside out, wrenching the air from your lungs and prying it out of you. Your mouth runs dry, struggling to come into terms with what he had said.
“Sirius.. I refuse.”
His face contorted to one of confusion, and you stopped yourself from scoffing. “Think of it. I’ll make you happy, I am highly devoted to. You won’t work, and you and your aunt will be provided for. You don’t even have to cater to me, or love me. If you would just let me.”
He was genuine, yet you could not bring yourself to fall onto his hands. You still felt as though his admittance was fake. The words that you had always waited to hear, tumbling out of his mouth casually while he laid his gentle eyes upon you— the same eyes that held that look for another— holding your heart down under its crushing weight.
“No, you can’t do this, Sirius. It wouldn’t be fair. You’re not being fair.”
You shook your head once more, pulling away from his burning hot touch, as if being scorched. You jump to your feet, snatching your almost-forgotten letter up from the floor;  feeling like the walls were closing up on you. Sirius was quick to follow your tail as you exited his room, disgruntled.
“You could marry for any reason under the sun. I would not be an accomplice in getting that privilege taken away.” You whispered to the wind, your vision being obscured by black and white, and the air between the two of you thicker. “I.. money is not the only reason I have to marry. I need to marry for love and security, too, can’t you understand that?”
“I can give all of that to you! I’d happily do!”
“No! You can’t! Just.. I’m not the person you’re in love with!” You snapped, stilling your movements as you looked at him with teary eyes. “It’s.. it’s not right, Sirius. I don’t think it’ll ever be.”
His gaze dropped, and a dent had fought its way onto the space between his brows once more. It was all in your intention to make him feel the hurt that he had inflicted on you, and you were not sure if you had just done so; your stare dancing across his soft features.
He was illuminated by the sun rising from beneath the horizon, the windows letting specks of light penetrate through its crystalline panes. His lips were taut with something that you couldn’t quite decipher, almost on the verge of trembling. He was as beautiful as the hurt that had blossomed inside of you. He was pained; vulnerable, and so, so beautiful.
“Please,” he muttered, reaching out to hold one of your hands in his. Tantalizingly soft, it was obvious that the man has never worked for a day in his life.
“I love you.”
He had let go of the words so carelessly, without missing a beat. His head was still bowed, like he was ashamed by his confession. There, you had realized that you were no longer young. You were man and woman. You couldn’t be held back by the threads of yesterday.
You sniffed. He was wearing his heart on his sleeve, yet you couldn’t will yourself to take it— your mind racing with the thoughts of him and his lover of the past. Not anymore. The tenderness, adoration, the embarrassment. All was clear, and they were dancing around his clouded eyes, ones that you wouldn’t have guessed to be grey if you hadn’t memorized them long ago.
“You’re being mean.” You had managed to get out, sobs forcing themselves to bubble in your throat. “I’ve loved you for so long, Sirius. You can’t possibly— you can’t just say that. You’re being mean.”
You didn’t dare look at him as you picked up the little dignity you had left. You didn’t give him time to answer as you shook him from your arm, in a rush to enter your room; closing the door on his face. You placed your back on the door, helplessly crying, and furiously wiping at the tears that had escaped from your eyes.
It was the first time that you had fell apart, and the first time it had happened right outside of his arms. You had loved him once; and perhaps, that was enough.
POV:
Remus creates a scavenger hunt that leads you to a surprise party in the forbidden forest.
Shock is clearly written on your face when you make it through the clearing and past what was assuming the barrier of the silencing charm as the sound of music and people chattering filled your ears. Strong arms wrap around you and lift you from the ground, the strong scent of musk and sandalwood fill your senses. “Potter,” you hug him back, “did you do all this?” You held up the small stack of parchment you’d be acquiring since breakfast
James shakes his head as he sits you down, “nah, this was all Rem, notes n’everythin.” You turn to look at the tall man walking towards you, hands shoved in his front pockets, small, shy smirk on his lips. “Remmy, this was you?” Remus nodded softly. “I…I can’t believe you remembered, I think I only mentioned my birthday once like, eight months ago when we first met.”
Remus shrugged, “How could I forget? I remember everything you tell me, dove. You’re…you’re important to me.” Remus prayed to every god he could think of that the light of the fire hid the blush that crept over his freckled cheeks at his confession. The grin the slowly spread over your lips told Remus there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
You wrapped a hand around his forearm as you stepped closer, “Well, show me around, how much work did you do, hmm?” A small chuckle left his lips as he pointed toward the bonfire that seemed to slowly be climbing higher, “Let’s start there, yeah? We can make a s’more and maybe you can convince Sirius to leave the flames alone…little pyro keeps increasing the fire thinking I won’t notice.”
ao3: les_fleurrs_du_mal (30 chapters posted and ongoing)
regulus black x original muggle character
[enemies to lovers]
summary:
Flora, the muggle half-sister of protective older brother Remus Lupin, finds herself hidden away during the First Wizarding War for fear of werewolf attacks. Her life is lonely and quiet until Regulus Black, a former Deatheater and an insufferable bigot, is also in need of sanctuary.
Chapter One
Tumblr media
Summer, 1978
It was some time after midnight when Flora awoke suddenly. Her curtains, which she’d left open after falling asleep from the sheer exhaustion of homework, twitched in the soft summer breeze of the still night. Welsh summers were never particularly warm, but this year had reached soaring temperatures. The air was still muggy when Flora woke in confusion, her skin prickly with sweat. The light of the full moon spilled into the room.
She moved only to push the books off her bed so she could get under the cool bedsheets, but was gripped with a sense of unease as she shifted her body and opened her eyes properly. A distinct creak on the stairs made her start. It was a slow, hesitant creak, like somebody was trying to be quiet.
Her parents had surely gone to bed, and it certainly wasn’t Remus. Not on a full moon. Flora pulled the sheet around herself, holding her breath to listen closer. She could feel and hear her pulse beating fast, gripped with a sudden certainty that she was about to die. She couldn’t move, insensible to all action. The footsteps continued up the stairs and moved down the hallway towards her bedroom. She hid deeper under her bedclothes, laying in dread of every second, her heart beating so hard and fast she was sure the intruder would hear it.
The door opened slowly and a small glowing light illuminated the room—a wand light.
“Flora?” A voice whispered, nervous.
Flora let out the breath she was holding and hastily threw back the covers, sitting up at once. “Sirius?”
His handsome face appeared in the dim glow of the wand light. His eyes widened and then softened with relief.
“Flora,” he rushed to her and took hold of her shoulders, looking her over quickly. “Are you alright?”
Flora noticed he was trembling. He stared at her like he wasn’t sure she was real, or more chillingly, alive. Flora was too bewildered to answer for a moment, wondering why she would not be alright, and why he didn’t turn the light on.
“Yes,” she answered distractedly, her eyes roving over his face. “Why are you here? Is Remus okay?”
Sirius blinked a moment, preoccupied with the inner whirlwind of his feelings. He looked at her softly and touched her face with platonic, brotherly affection. With the way he was constantly attached to Remus, Sirius may as well have been her brother.
She became suddenly aware of a second presence in the doorway. Sirius calmly turned his head and greeted a bespectacled boy with black hair, who also had his wand raised with a light emitting from the end of it.
“She’s fine,” Sirius said to the boy, who quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
“We’d better take her now,” he replied, stepping further into the room with a deeply disturbed look on his face.
Flora raised her eyes to look at James Potter, a boy she had heard plenty about from Remus and Sirius, but had never met until now.
“What’s happened?” Flora asked, her confusion and fear mounting as she observed the troubled looks on their ashen faces. “Where’s my mam? My dad? Remus?"
They didn’t answer her. They began to talk between themselves in low, anxious tones about taking her somewhere. When Sirius turned to speak to her again, he took hold of her hands and squeezed them gently. “I’m going to take you to the Potter’s house, alright? His mum and dad are there. They’re kind and they’ll make sure you’re alright. You’ll have to side-along apparate with me. Have you ever done that before?”
Flora shook her head slowly. “No, but why—”
“It will feel a little uncomfortable,” Sirius cut her off, standing up. “Like a tight squeezing, but it won’t be for long.”
James regarded Sirius with uncertainty. “Are you sure you’re alright to do it, mate? Maybe we should wait until Moody or someone more senior gets here.”
“I can take her,” Sirius replied.
“I think we should wait.”
“No, it could be a while yet. We need to get her out of here and somewhere safe,” Sirius insisted firmly.
Flora felt a sudden urge to scream as the realisation dawned on her, that something truly awful had happened. Perhaps she'd anticipated it for a while, unconsciously, through snippets she'd heard in murmured voices between her parents and Remus. Conversations she was not meant to be privy to. She understood there was unrest in the wizarding world, that her brother and his friends were helping. Now something had happened. She didn’t realise she was screaming until she felt Sirius’ arms around her, his voice trying to soothe her. She crumbled into hysterics, begging an explanation and fighting against him in order to flee the room and find out what it was for herself. Sirius held her fast, gripping her shoulders and looking to James for help. He looked just as lost as Sirius. They needed Remus. Flora knew as well as they did that she needed her big brother.
“Flora, Flo, please,” Sirius pleaded, “Calm down. Please calm down.”
“What’s happened? Tell me right now!” She sobbed wildly. At only fifteen years old, nothing terrible had ever happened in her life. She studied and worked hard at school, went to the pictures sometimes, read books. Bad things didn't happen to her. She was the 'normal' child, the one who sorely wished sometimes that she was magic like her older brother just so interesting things would happen. Now suddenly she didn't want it.
“Please,” Sirius tried again, speaking calmly. “Let me take you to the Potters. I’ll explain things there, I swear.”
“Is Remus there?” She asked hopefully, knowing it was a silly question. “And my mam and dad?”
Sirius shook his head. James hesitantly stepped closer and knelt down in front of Flora, looking at her. “We will explain everything shortly,” he said with solemn eyes. “But right now, you need to leave. It isn’t safe here.”
“Why isn’t it safe?” Flora asked with wide, tearful eyes. “This is my house.”
“Let us take you to my parent’s house. Everything will be alright.”
Sirius was able to ease Flora to her feet, rubbing her back in a useless effort to calm her down. In only her nightie, she was swiftly removed from her quiet home to face the worst news she could possibly imagine.
Autumn, 1980
Flora stood at the kitchen sink, yawning and contemplating an early night with a warm drink and the new book she wanted to start. Darkness had gathered around the little stone cottage, summoning the owls that Flora presently heard hooting in the surrounding blackness of the trees. She scratched the side of her head and pushed a loose piece of hair behind her ear, splashing bubbles on her cheek as she did so.
Her days were slow: peaceful, mundane. She wondered when her brother would arrive — if he would arrive. He’d promised he would, but Order meetings often kept him late or away altogether. She tried hard to stay up on the nights he promised to come back, the nights he brought fresh food and provisions and the occasional gift to lift her spirits, but quite often she would secede waiting and go to bed. In the morning she would find that everything she needed had been restocked in the night, like some elf or fairy had been. He did not usually stay. But tonight, Flora so terribly wanted to talk to him, to see someone, anyone, and so she fought back the temptation of an early night. For someone who was only seventeen, going to bed each night with only the company of one’s inner voice was a dreadful thing. It made Flora feel like an old woman who had already lived the excitement of youth, and yet Flora had yet to experience it.
A long shadow outside caught Flora’s eye and she lifted her head to peer out. Her heart lifted the moment she recognised the tall, wiry figure of her brother at the ancient stone gatepost with his wand illuminating the darkness. She drew back from the old sink, shook her hands dry of water and bubbles, and rushed across the kitchen to the door. Without slippers and in only her pyjamas, she ran outside and down the path. It was dark and wet outside, but she hadn’t been out of the house all day and liked the cool, late summer air on her face as she hurried to meet her brother. It braced her, filling her lungs with the scent of damp moss and earth.
“Remus,” she half walked on the tips of her toes over the dirt path, careful to avoid treading on any sharp stones. She lifted her eyes and noticed there was a second person with him. Not that that was unusual. Sirius Black went wherever Remus went, like a pair. Sirius gave Flora his typical charming smile, a smile that admittedly always made Flora blush just a little too much, as he walked beside Remus. The young man was almost dwarfed by the latter’s height. Half a dozen shopping bags of food floated a little way behind them.
“Where are your shoes? Go back inside,” Remus said as he fixed his eyes on his younger sister.
“I’ve been inside all day. Did you get everything on my list?” She asked in a rush.
He shrugged his thin shoulders. “Most of it, I think. Sirius lost the list before we got there.”
Flora’s eyes sharply darted to Sirius, who quickly sought to defend himself. “It's fine. I’ve got a good memory.”
Remus snorted lightly. They all walked into the little cottage. It was a venerable, white-washed stone building with two ground-floor rooms and four upper rooms, rooms which had been added to over the years. The building itself was at least three hundred years old and had changed relatively little as far as anyone could guess.
Wales was an ancient land. There might have been an older building on the location of the present one, and the magic was heavy here, heavy enough that even Flora could sometimes instinctively feel it. It was not uncommon for her to go walking in the forest and stumble across fairy rings, which she was careful to avoid stepping in. As a child, if she listened very closely at night, she was sure she could hear the soft tinkle of music outside. Remus told her it was the elves, though Flora had never quite believed him, thinking he was winding her up because he was magic and she was not. But then her mother — their mother, who was a muggle — confirmed it to be true and so Flora believed. They were half-siblings, Flora and Remus, but close enough in age and upbringing to consider themselves full siblings. It didn’t matter that Flora wasn’t a witch. Frankly, Flora didn’t mind so much anymore, not with everything going on.
The cottage was firmly situated amongst the rolling green hills, overlooking the granite coastline of North Wales and little seaside town far below. The wizened old cottage was also heavily warded with protective and defensive charms, charms which protected its singular occupant. Remus said to protect, but to Flora, it felt like imprisonment. Worse still, she was almost always alone. The siblings had nobody but themselves to rely on, and increasingly Remus was unable to visit his younger sister. It was too dangerous, he said. Reports of werewolves in nearby towns and villages were becoming worryingly more common. He came now more out of necessity to deliver food and shopping and take a list of anything she needed or wanted. Today he had gone overboard, Flora thought, probably due to Sirius losing her carefully written list. But it quickly struck Flora as curious—there was too much food here for just one person.
“Right… bread, milk, eggs,” Remus began to empty the shopping bags onto the large kitchen table, which Flora sat down at and watched. He placed three loaves of bread down, two boxes of a dozen eggs, three pints of milk. “Jam… soup… uh, got you lots of fruit this time…chocolate…”
Flora studied him with a small frown, her chin resting in her hands. “Why’ve you got so much of everything?” She half exclaimed. “Half of this will expire by the time I get round to using it.”
Remus and Sirius shared a very brief, but tense look. It was a look that Flora caught immediately and it caused her to sit up straighter.
“What is it? Tell me now,” she demanded. Her soft Welsh accent lilted up and down as she spoke, which somewhat diminished the vexation in her tone.
Sirius smiled at her, speaking quickly in an attempt to distract her. “Shall we have a cup of tea?”
He flicked his wand at the kettle across the room and it began to heat up. Flora sat back in the wooden kitchen chair and folded her arms, eyeing them both with suspicion. Remus looked distinctly uncomfortable. He ran his hand through his thick fluffy hair and sighed through his nose quietly while Sirius busied himself with the tea. Sirius liked making tea. In fact, he enjoyed doing a lot of mundane household tasks (magic or no magic) simply because he never got to do it as a child. His absolute favourite was the microwave, which seemed to endlessly fascinate him no matter how many times he used it. He lived in a small flat with Remus in the muggle side of London, which Flora had only visited once.
Remus sat down opposite his sister. There was just a few years difference in age between them, but Remus always treated Flora like she was much younger. Since their parent's death, he had dutifully taken on a paternal role for his sister.
“Remember I told you before that things are getting more dangerous out there?” He began.
“No,” Flora replied dryly. “Tell me again."
Remus gave her a steady, stern look. “Flo.”
“Does bringing extra food make it less dangerous?”
Remus decided to ignore her sarcasm, continuing to speak levelly. Flora always thought he would make a very good teacher when he started talking like this.
“Well, every time I come here it does get a little more dangerous than the last.”
“Why’d you keep coming back then?”
“Flora,” Remus huffed, beginning to lose his patience. “Would you please be serious for a minute.” Flora glanced at Sirius, but he was fixated on making the tea with a faraway look on his face and clearly in no mood for jokes.
“I need to explain something to you—ask something of you, actually,” Remus went on.
“Me?” She frowned. “Why? What?”
“Well, I do really,” Sirius suddenly came to life, straightening up and looking over his shoulder. His face remained neutral, controlled. Flora waited, confused.
“Let me explain something first,” Remus looked at Sirius, “Before we get to that part.”
Sirius shrugged and resumed making the tea. Remus turned back to his sister, his face set and grim.
“The werewolves—”
Flora sighed heavily and turned her head away, not letting him get halfway through his sentence. “Not the werewolves again. I've not heard or seen anything."
“Flora, would you be quiet for five minutes,” Remus snapped with a deepening frown. He leaned forward across the table. “Just listen. Werewolf attacks have been reported close to this area. They’re getting closer and I’m seriously worried they’re looking for you specifically.”
“Why would they?” Flora replied, feigning an air of indifference. But her skin prickled slightly at this awful suggestion. That awful night was recalled back to her memory. She dreamt about it sometimes, only her dreams filled in the horrors she’d never witnessed. Remus had never told her what really happened, perhaps to spare her the thought of how their parents died, but in her heart she knew.
“Because they’re also after me. I’ve told you this before. Greyback wants me to join his—his pack. The Order believes that they believe hurting or kidnapping you would give them leverage. I’ve spent one full moon with them, but they don’t trust me. This isn’t just about protecting you as a just-in-case precaution, it’s crucial now that you stay put while I do what I need to do.”
Flora felt indignant at this. “I already do stay put! Where am I going to go?"
“You’ve left the wards several times. I know you go down to the beach, to the shops."
”I’m not likely to be attacked by a werewolf in broad daylight,” Flora said moodily.
”No,” Remus agreed, “but there are spies around. Someone could still easily grab you, daylight or not. I need you to stay here.”
“But it’s boring!”
”It’s safe.”
“Flora, listen,” Sirius began now in support of Remus. He brought over their cups of tea and sat down next to Remus. “You can’t leave.”
“So you’ve brought me all this extra food to prevent me from going anywhere? Half that bread will go mouldy before I get to open it.”
“No,” Remus rubbed his forehead with the palm of his hand, stretching his long fingers out and burying them in his hairline. “No, that’s not it.”
“This is the second surprise,” Sirius said as he sipped his tea. He glanced again at Remus, who was now rubbing his eyelids with the heel of his palm. When Remus lowered his hands, his eyes were a little watery and red from the pressure of his hand. He looked suddenly very tired, older than his twenty-one years.
“The other thing…” Remus started. His eyes met Sirius’ eyes.
“It’s my brother,” Sirius blurted out quickly.
Flora blinked. “Brother?”
“Yes, my younger brother.”
“I didn’t know you had a brother.”
“That’s because he’s a little prick. We don’t talk about him. He's, um, he was on the—you know, the other side of things. A Death Eater.”
Remus sighed heavily. Flora noticed he was gripping his cup of tea very tightly as Sirius struggled to explain whatever it was he was trying to explain. And this was odd because Sirius was never lost for words. He was always so sure of himself.
“A Death Eater,” Flora repeated when Sirius trailed off, prompting him to continue.
“Yeah, uh… well, ex-Death Eater I suppose now,” Sirius coughed softly to clear his throat. He swallowed thickly and his Adam’s apple bobbed noticeably in his throat. “He abandoned it all and came to find me. He’s hurt. Badly hurt. I still don’t fully know what happened to him because he won’t tell me. I thought maybe You-Know-Who had done something to him. But he's talking, giving us information that is useful to the Order, and so far it's been accurate, reliable."
Flora nodded slowly, keeping her large eyes fixed on the two young men. “Okay…”
“He’s not safe where he is,” Sirius continued. “We’re hiding him in our flat at the moment, but he can’t stay there.”
Flora was not stupid, and the realisation of what he was trying to ask hit her very quickly. But she held back, not speaking, and she waited for the horror of the situation to descend.
“Just to be clear,” Remus spoke up in a low, glum voice, “I don’t want this. I wish this wasn’t happening at all and I’m sorry.”
“Are you going to tell me that you’ve invited a Death Eater to come and live with me?” Flora demanded now, her voice growing increasingly higher as panic set in. She looked to her brother for help, but he was looking down obstinately at the table.
“Ex-Death Eater,” Sirius quickly corrected.
Flora glowered. “Oh, that's alright then."
“He won’t hurt you,” Sirius floundered. “I trust him.”
Flora scoffed, folding her arms across her chest.
“Please, just listen to me” he pleaded. Remus was clearly sitting out on the discussion, having known exactly how his sister would react. It was down to Sirius to convince her, and so far he wasn’t doing a very good job.
“He won’t have access to his wand,” he continued. “He won’t be able to do any magic."
“So he is dangerous?”
“No, it’s just…” Sirius rubbed his face now. “He’s not dangerous. Not really—”
“Not really?”
“Fuck’s sake,” Remus muttered with another very heavy sigh. “Let me explain it to her.”
“I wish one of you would,” Flora snapped in irritation.
“I was against it too, okay?” Remus began calmly. “I still am. I don’t like him but he’s been fairly reliable so far. He’ll be killed if he’s found. By the look of things, he nearly was killed."
Sirius’ face had grown rather pinched. He held his chin in his hand and frowned down at his mostly untouched cup of tea. His whole body, which he usually held in a careless, relaxed way, was now very tense and hunched.
“I just want him to be safe,” Sirius murmured without raising his eyes.
Flora was quiet for a long moment, glaring at the two of them. “So the extra food,” she began after a minute, “That’s for him?”
“I’m sorry we didn’t ask you first, Flo,” Remus answered softly. “We need to move him quickly though. It probably won’t be for long, mind. The Order will eventually find somewhere more permanent for him to go, maybe. But he’s not exactly their priority right now. He’s just a runaway, at the end of the day.”
“More like an escaped lunatic," Flora said indignantly. "I don’t want him here. I’m telling you no.”
“Flora, please,” Sirius looked up now. His soft eyes were huge and desperate. “I’ll be the first to admit he’s an insufferable little prick. He has his ridiculous airs and prejudices, but I swear he won’t hurt you. I wouldn’t have asked if I thought for even a moment that he would harm a hair on your head. Maybe it’s stupid, but I truly believe he can change. He just needs the chance.”
Flora sat back, halfway defeated. She found it very challenging to argue when Sirius was looking at her with eyes like that, and it did not help that she’d had a foolishly desperate crush on him since she was eleven. She knew she would cave the moment he asked. She reasoned she could handle a rude houseguest — she’d helped at the village pub when she was fourteen during the summer holidays — but she wasn’t so keen on her houseguest being a dark wizard who openly hated muggles. This would be odious, but she couldn’t deny Sirius anything.
“We already broached the subject with him,” Sirius went on when she didn’t respond. “We’ve made it very clear that he has to behave himself.”
“How long will it be for?”
Sirius shrugged. “Honestly, I don’t know. If he becomes too much to deal with, we’ll take him back to the flat until we can find another arrangement.”
“What exactly do you mean by ‘too much to deal with’?" She questioned carefully.
“Exactly what I said before. He’s a prick. I’m going to be completely honest with you, he will likely treat you with a lot of disdain because you’re a muggle. But whatever he says, take no notice. Just tell me and I'll sort the little bastard out."
“So he’ll just be rude?”
“At best, yes.”
“What about at worst?”
Sirius drummed his fingers on the table top. “He can be hateful.”
Remus sat up a little, as though a thought had just occurred to him. He touched Sirius’ arm lightly and shook his head, “Let’s not do this. We can find somewhere else for him to go. Why destroy her peace? She doesn’t need to know what people like him think of her.”
Sirius’ face dropped slightly. He looked a lot like a small child who had just been told no. Flora watched them curiously, feeling an odd swelling in her heart as she observed the pain and anxiety in Sirius’ eyes. Besides that, she was undeniably interested in doing something other than sitting around the house reading novels. When Flora had said life was boring, she meant she felt she was fading into the wings, always waiting, stagnant. She was so bored, lonely, and she resented her brother more and more everyday for keeping her here.
“Where’s he going to go, Moony?” Sirius was speaking in a low murmur to Remus. "He's not safe."
“We’ll find somewhere,” Remus replied with little certainty in his voice. “I promise.”
“He’ll be killed,” Sirius hissed. “They’ll find him.”
“They won’t.”
“One week,” Flora spoke up quietly, barely believing her own words as they left her mouth. She couldn't bear witnessing this. She didn’t have it in her to be cruel, and right now she felt cruel if she said no. “If he can behave himself for one week, he can stay.”
“Flo, you don’t have to—” Remus began hesitantly.
Sirius’ eyes lit up with new-founded hope though. “One week?” he replied quickly, latching to her words.
Flora nodded slowly. Her heart felt heavy but she couldn’t go back now. One week was fair, she reasoned. It wasn’t such a long time. And if Sirius’s brother turned out to be alright, then perhaps she would have a friend to fill her time with. As he was younger than Sirius, she assumed he must be her age. Either way, she reasoned, she had quite literally nothing to lose in letting him stay.
“One week. Okay,” Sirius nodded eagerly, “and we’ll visit every morning and evening to check how he gets on.”
Remus frowned. “I don’t think we can do that.”
“Well, I will anyway,” Sirius said. He then leaned across the table and clasped hold of Flora’s small hand. “Thank you. Thank you,” he whispered with great sincerity.
Flora coloured with pleasure, smiling a little in spite of herself as she relished in his joy and relief — joy and relief she had given. She knew her actions weren’t motivated out of any concern for his brother. Her motivation was purely for Sirius and herself.
“What’s his name anyway?” Flora asked, realising she’d never considered it.
“Regulus.”
“Of course it is,” she rolled her eyes gently and shook her head.
Sirius smiled, still grasping her hand in his tightly. He then kissed her hand, just like a knight in storybooks, placing a chaste kiss on her knuckles. Flora blushed to her ears and looked away, mortified and thrilled. And that was that. Regulus Black would be arriving the very next day.
The Drink Snob (part 4)
mafia au!Remus Lupin x fem!reader - 3k
p1 // p2 // p3 // p4
You stood on the sidewalk staring dumbly at the sign that hung above the door of the restaurant - La Luna – with a list of references under your arm.
You’d thought long and hard about showing up today, and you weren’t sure which part of you was the part that won. Was it the part of you who saw things through? The part of you who had a lovely conversation with a motherly sounding woman on the phone and had promised her you’d be here? Was it the part of you who sort of wanted to see The Man™ again? Or was it the part of you who didn’t like being told what to do?
You supposed it didn’t much matter now which part of you won, seeing as it found you here.
Now you just had to make it inside the restaurant...which should be easy...seeing as you had two functioning legs...so why the hell aren’t they moving?
Maybe this was a bad idea, maybe you shouldn’t have come. Who voluntarily works for a criminal? Or at least for a criminal’s mother. He’s proven to you that he’s nothing but trouble.
What if it was the good kind of trouble? The kind that led to fun banter and teasing remarks. The kind that made life more exciting and adventurous. The kind that made him really fun in bed.
Stop it.
He wasn’t the good kind of trouble. He was a criminal. Just because he stopped one guy from drugging you doesn’t mean he’s any better than him. Just because he spent hours with you at a bar listening to you lament about your life. Just because he took the opportunity to warn you about his mother’s restaurant. Just because he seemed to give a damn about you...
No, that was wishful thinking.
You shouldn’t be here.
Your option to leave was taken from you, however, when a man exciting the restaurant paused to hold the door open for you.
Fuck it.
You thanked the man and squared your shoulders as you entered the restaurant.
It was fairly quiet inside, which you supposed made sense seeing as it didn’t open until 4pm. There were some serving staff behind the bar readying glassware and silverware for the evening, and a few men moving a large piece of furniture covered with a moving blanket to the corner of the restaurant.
“No fucking way. You came!” A voice called. You turned to see the same curly haired man from the restaurant the night that The Man™ saved you from Tan. He was smiling widely at you as if the two of you were old friends that hadn’t seen each other in years.
“Uhm...me?” you asked dumbly. Kill me now.
The man just laughed as he approached you and gave you a bone crushing hug. “Yeah you! You’re The Girl.”
“The girl?” You muttered as you stepped away from the overly affectionate man.
“James, step away from the girl; she doesn’t even know you.” A shorter man with black hair and silver eyes said as he smiled politely at you. “Sorry about him. He’s mostly harmless, just an idiot.”
The man...James...beamed at you as if his friend hadn’t just insulted him.
“I’m James, this is my boyfriend Regulus.” James introduced finally.
“It’s nice to meet you.” You said as you gave him your name in turn.
“Oh, we know.” Another man said as he entered the dining area. He looked startlingly similar to Regulus, though his hair was quite a bit longer and he was littered with tattoos and silver jewelry. He was also accompanied by The Man™.
“Don’t be fucking weird.” The Man™ muttered to his companion.
“Sorry Moons, no can do.” He said salaciously as he waltzed his way over to you extending his hand. “The names Sirius, doll. So glad I finally get to meet you.” He said with a wink.
You choked on a laugh.
“Fucking hell. You’re unbelievable.” You said instead of hello.
“Thank you!” He beamed, puffing his chest not unlike a peacock.
“That wasn’t a compliment...”
James barked a laugh. “Oh Moony, can we keep her?” He said as he wiped a fake tear from under his eye.
“You’re name’s Moony?” You asked incredulously.
The Man’s murderous glare softened as he looked from James to you. “One of them.”
“The sods name is Remus, dollface. Don’t mind him, he’s emotionally constipated.” Sirius interjected.
“Sirius!” Remus chastised from across the room.
“What is goi-oh! You must be Y/N!” A lovely woman exclaimed as she made her way into the dining hall. “I was wondering what had my boys so rowdy.”
You flushed under the insinuation and extended your hand quickly.
“You must be Hope. It’s nice to meet you; I’m terribly sorry if you’ve been waiting on me.”
The woman waved you off and threw a sarcastic glance over her shoulder. “Oh, I’m not fussed. It’s hard to get almost anything done with this lot ‘round. Come, leave the boys to their folly.” She said as she ushered you down the hall.
“Those are your boys?” You asked as the two of you made your way to what looked to be Hope’s office.
“Yes! Well, technically just Remus. But they’re a package deal, those boys.” She said with the fondness only a mother could manage. It made your heart hurt.
“I suppose that’s an important quality...in his line of work.” You offered. You chose to attend the interview regardless, but it was important for you to understand exactly what was expected of you here.
Hope looked at you with a knowing glint in her eye as she sat at her desk, seeming to size you up. “Yes, I suppose so.”
She pulled out some papers and you placed your references in front of you.
“So, what kind of questions do you have for me?” She asked casually.
You felt your eyebrows furrow as you calculated her question; you’d never been asked that at the beginning of an interview before.
“Erm, I... well I guess I’d like to know a little more about what the job entails.”
Hope smiled widely at you – you could see now where Remus got his dimples from.
“Well, we were looking for someone who had a license to serve liquor, perhaps to help with serving and bussing tables. But really what I’m most excited about is your music.”
“My music?” You asked quietly.
“Oh yes.” Hope offered enthusiastically. “I’ve always wanted live music here, but we’ve never had anyone to do that! I must admit, I looked you up after I received your CV – you’re very talented.”
“Oh, god.” You murmured as you felt you face heat in embarrassment. “I’ve really only played with orchestra’s – I’m not sure that’s an example of any talent.”
“Hm, and modest too. Tell me, do you make it a habit of downplaying your worth?”
You felt like you’d been slapped.
“Because you shouldn’t. You ought to be proud; I sure am.” She carried on like she hadn’t just rocked your world. You cleared your throat and tried to fight against the tears clamoring their way to the surface.
“As for...this line of work.” Hope carried on, emphasizing your phrasing regarding Remus’ job. “This is indeed a restaurant. We deal with mostly restaurant matters. Some of our patrons may be...more colourful than average, and we may see the boys come and go from time-to-time, but there’s nothing you’d need to be concerned about.”
You nodded, a little stunned by the speed of this conversation, but feeling like you got the gist.
Restaurant. Shady business behind the scenes. Nothing for you to worry about.
Good enough.
“Look. You’ve worked at bars in some of the largest cities in North America – that tells me you work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. You’ve worked with orchestras across the continent as well, which tells me you work well in a team environment. You’re working towards your doctorate which tells me you’re dedicated and hard working. You’re an ideal candidate, Y/N.”
Remus was right – how does one say no to Hope Lupin?
“Do you work well in a team?” She asked plainly.
“Yes.”
“Do you work well under pressure?”
“Sure.”
“How’s your right hook?”
You laughed. “Not bad? I guess...I’ve not had to use it much if I’m being honest.”
Hope shrugged her shoulders. “We can work on that.”
You laughed again before taking a deep breath. “Okay. Alright, well...whatever you need then.”
Hope smiled. “You’ll play for us?”
You grimaced but shifted it to a smile. “There’s no saying no to you, is there?”
Hope beamed. “And you’re a quick learner. Excellent! Come with me.” She called as she stood and marched out of her office.
You followed her obediently back out to the dining hall where James, Remus, Sirius, and Regulus were still loitering – each having taken a seat at a different table. And that large piece of furniture they’d been moving in when you arrived? It was a piano.
It was a Concert A 192 Bechstein grand piano.
It was a brand-new Concert A 192 Bechstein grand piano.
You thought you were going to faint. These pianos were not cheap.
“Think this will work for you? I’m sure we could swap it for something else if needed.” Hope commented as she moved towards the piano.
“You got this...for me?” You murmured. Hope smiled at you but bit it back when she saw the emotion on your face.
“Well, we got it for the restaurant. If you need something else though, we can likely exchange it.”
She was interrupted by a scoff from Sirius. “I am not breaking my back dragging that thing back out of here again, mummykins.”
“You’ll damn well do whatever the hell I tell you too, bubs.” She shot back.
Sirius conceded immediately. “Absolutely. Whatever you want mum.”
“So, are you gonna play us something?” James interjected.
“Now?” You asked apprehensively.
“Well, someone’s gotta test it out.” He shrugged. “They tuned it at the store but said it might shift slightly during the move.”
You hummed in acknowledgement but made no move to sit at the piano. James sighed dramatically and stood from his seat.
“Fine. I’ll do it myself.”
Regulus groaned and brought his hands up to his ears as his boyfriend sat at the piano with a flourish, cracking his knuckles, and began pressing keys at random.
Sirius bobbed his head in encouragement as if what James was currently producing could be considered music. Regulus banged his head against the table with his ears still covered, and Remus shook his head with a grimace.
“Okay, okay! Oh, you poor thing what has he done to you?” You cooed at the piano as you swatted James’ hands away.
“Uhm, I was playing it. Duh.” He muttered as he stood from the bench.
“That was a crime, is what it was. This piano is a work of art – it costs as much as a bungalow in America.” You said as you sat at the bench, staring at the keys in awe.
You’ve played some pretty spectacular instruments throughout your life; the New York Philharmonic certainly provided for their pianist, no holds barred. But those were instruments you had to give back once you finished playing with them. Granted, this belonged to the restaurant, but...it was here for you to play.
“What are you going to play us?” Remus asked quietly.
You turned your head to him, surprised out of your musings, to find him looking at you softly.
“Any requests?” You asked the room.
“James’ knowledge of music that one can play on a piano expands no further than heart and soul, dollface. Don’t ask us.” Sirius smirked as he dodged a swat that James sent his way with an indignant squawk.
“You’re the expert.” Hope encouraged you from the side of the room.
You took a deep breath and turned back to the piano. You felt horribly exposed; no orchestra to hide behind, all eyes on you. Make it count.
You opted for a piece you’ve played an unholy amount of times.
It was your mother’s favourite.
It wasn’t anything particularly difficult or challenging; it was not a technical piece in the slightest. But something about it spoke to you.
It felt like sitting in a sunroom on a rainy day and watching beads of raindrops race down the panes of glass. It felt like the sun peeking out from behind the clouds after days of overcast skies. It felt like a hug from your mom.
Turns out, it sounded even more beautiful on a Bechstein.
The last few notes echoed through the predominantly quiet restaurant as you stared down at the keys.
“What’s that called?” Remus asked quietly.
You looked over at him to find that same soft look on his face.
“It’s called Sorrisi.”
“What language is that?” James asked.
“Italian, I believe.”
“What does it mean?” Sirius interjected.
You smirked before responding. “I believe it translates to I smiled.”
Remus watched as you seemed to shake yourself out of some sort of reverie. The piece was simple, but it was deep. Remus swore he could see years of memories and feelings oozing out of your shoulders as your hands danced across the keys.
And he wasn’t the only one. He could tell his mum was crying – most people wouldn’t have likely noticed, thinking she was just farsighted - but he knew that she only ever removed her glasses from her face if she was tearing up.
And then you had to go and act all bashful like you hadn’t just moved the room to tears with a few simple notes. Like you had no idea how wonderful you were. How beautiful you were.
Remus was fucked.
Here's the song you played for (Remus) the boys and Hope 🥰
