you were sat at your desk, glasses slipping down your nose, headphones sat atop your head. you had one headphone pushed behind your ear as your monitor displayed a random adventure time episode. you had various nail polishes displayed in front of you, deciding which combo you wanted to do. 

unbeknownst to you, chan was leaning against the door frame, watching the internal debate play out as your eyes dart to each color. he had been in his office/studio working on a few tracks while you were keeping yourself entertained at your desk, playing games with felix, watching shows, etc.

 now you were having a creative war in your brain, trying to come up with unique color combinations and patterns. chan stayed there for a moment, heart swelling with love and overwhelming adoration. he watched as pick out different colors, tongue sticking out slightly as you examined the bottles carefully.

he pushes off the door frame, walking up to you, placing his arms on the back of your chair,. you felt movement behind you causing you to look at the culprit. you smile, pushing up your glasses, “hi bub.” turning your attention back to the small bottles filled with every color of the rainbow.

“what are you doing, bug?” he asks, leaning against your chair, glancing over your shoulder. “i’m trying to decide what color i wanna paint my nails.” you moved to lean back against your chair, causing the aussie boy behind you to shift, wrapping his arms around you.

you lean your head back, lips pursed, silently asking for a kiss. he smiles before placing a sweet kiss to your soft lips. you pull apart before looking forward, leaning your head against one of his arms wrapped around you. “ can i pick out your colors?” he asks, staring at the miscellaneous colorful bottles.

your cheeks warm, “you want to?” he nods, before releasing you, moving to grab your old chair in the corner of the room, pulling it up to your desk. you scoot over, giving him space to slide in next to you.

he becomes serious, analyzing each bottle individually, before grabbing two colors, a rich, inky black and a soft, light purple. you look at him with waiting eyes, he sat there looking at the colors for a moment before he looks over to you. his signature side smile, dimple on full display as he slides the two bottles to you.

“these two?” you ask, grabbing the bottles out of his hand. he nods, “can we try something?” you hum, prompting him to continue. “so i saw a video of a girl getting her nails done and she got her nails done one color and then painted her pinky black.” you nod, turning towards him. 

“and then she painted her boyfriends nails and she painted all of them black and then painted his pinky the color she painted her nails.” he finished shyly, looking down at the two bottles in your hand. “so you want to paint my nails with the purple and then my pinky black and then i’ll do the opposite for you?”

you watch as chan’s cheeks slightly reddened as he lightly nods. you giggle, placing your hand on his cheek. “that’s so cute baby, i’d love to do that with you.” you quickly kiss his cheek before letting out a happy squeal.

you shake your arms in excitement before turning back to your desk, you take off your head phones, placing them on your monitor. you quickly put all of the other colorful bottles away where they belong before grabbing all the things you need to prep his nails. you had already prepped yours since you were planning on painting them anyway. 

you look back over to the aussie boy next to you,` looking at you with pure adoration, falling more and more in love with you. “what?” you ask, looking at him with big eyes. he smiles, shaking his head, “nothing, what you got there?” he points to the various tools you set out.

you explain each one as you grab the nail polish remover and some cotton pads. “so the stick is gonna push back your cuticles and the clippers are gonna trim them before i use the nail polish remover to remove any oil on your nails.” he listened intently as you explained each item.

“okay so here’s the question, do you want to paint my nails or do you want me to do both?” you ask looking back to him. “maybe you do both this time and i’ll watch and then next time i’ll do your’s.” you nod before grabbing the towel you use specifically for doing your nails.

you lay the towel out in front of him before grabbing his hands and placing one on the fabric, keeping the other in your hand. “okay, i’m gonna clean your nails quick and then i’ll start painting.” he nods before looking at the screen in front of you, the cartoon still playing on the screen.

you notice this, placing his hand on your thigh before grabbing the headphones, “here.” you whisper, gently placing the headphones over his ears. he looks over at you with a pout. “what’s wrong bubba?” you ask, small smile making it’s way on your lips at his cute antics.

“now i can’t hear you.” he whined, his pout somehow bigger. you giggle before pushing back one of the speakers off his ear. “better?” you ask. he immediately smiles before turning his attention back to the animated jake and finn in front of you. you smile to yourself as start pushing back his cuticle.

“if it hurts please let me know, i don’t want to hurt you okay?” you look up to him, catching the slight nod as he was already engrossed in the show. you smile at your boyfriend before going back to work.

you push each cuticle back with care and precision before placing his hand on the towel before grabbing the other, repeating the process. you place his second hand back on the towel before grabbing the first and the clippers.  “try to stay still okay? i don’t wanna cut you.” he looks over after hearing your serious tone.

he smiles, giving you a firm nod before turning back to the screen. you slowly make your way around each finger, mindful not to get anywhere close to his skin. you finish the first hand once again moving to the second before repeating the process once again.

you put his hand back onto the desk, before grabbing the base coat, shaking the bottle. the movement caught chan’s attention, “oh what’s that? base coat?” he asks, looking at the bottle of clear polish in your hands. you nod your head, humming and you unscrew the brush from the bottle.

you place the bottle on the desk before putting your hand out, waiting for him to place his in yours. he gives you his hand, returning his attention to the screen, fully engrossed in the animations.

you paint each nail with precision, tongue poking out in concentration. after you finish the first hand, you place it back on the towel before tapping his other hand causing him to move the  second one towards you, eyes glued to the screen. you can’t help but look at him with pure adoration, the way he looks captivated by the show while fully trusting you to do whatever you want to his nails.

your cheeks warm before you grab his hand, painting each nail with the clear polish. you placed his hand back down, screw the brush back into place, turning your attention to the screen as you wait for his nails to dry. luckily you refuse to watch anything without subtitles so you were able to follow along easily.

you lay your head on his shoulder, placing an arm on his thigh, drawing random shapes on the soft skin. you feel him place a long loving kiss on your head before laying his on this same spot. you both stay like that for a moment, enjoying each other’s presence.

after a few minutes you gently tap his thigh, signaling him to move. he let out a small whine before moving, looking at you with a pout. “don’t give me that look, mister.” you scold him playfully. “you’re the one that asked me to paint your nails.” he mimics you before huffing, turning back to the screen.

“hey.” you whine, catching his attention. once he turned to you, it was your turn to pout, his eyes softened immediately “that was mean.” your frown deepens, jokingly crossing your arms. “oh baby, i’m sorry.” he coos, attempting to apologize. you turn your head the other way, nose up, egging him on.

“my bug, please.” he begs, you can only assume his puppy dog eyes are on full display. when you don’t react he brings out the big guns. he scoots his chair impossibly closer to you while pulling you closer to him. “sweetheart, please.” he begs, grabbing your arm, entwining your fingers before bringing your hand to his lips, placing a sweet kiss to the back of it.

you look over at him, actively fighting the smile attempting to make its way onto your face. “come on sweetheart, you know i was just playing.” he says, his voice dripping with sweetness. you can feel your face getting warm as you cave. “that’s not fair.” you grumble, pulling your hand away, causing him to pull back, scooting away slightly.

“what’s not fair, sweetheart?” he asks, feigning innocence. you glare at him. “you know what, don’t play coy.” you accuse, scooting your chair back into the desk. you glance over catching the sly smirk gracing his lips, fully aware of the effect that pet name has on you.

you roll your eyes, small smile on your lips as you grab the bottle filled with the dark polish. you shake it quickly as chan settles next to you, placing his hands back on the towel. you unscrew the brush, placing it on the desk and take one of his hands before painting each nail.

taking even more time than you did with the previous clear coat. taking extra care to make sure each nail is coated perfectly with no streaks and nothing on the surrounding skin. after painting the first four with the darker shade before grabbing the lighter, lavender shade, painting his pinky with the same caution.

after finishing the first coat you repeat the same careful process with his other hand. your tongue starts poking out as your concentration increases, fully committed to the task at hand. so committed you didn’t realize chan had abandoned watching the nostalgic cartoon to watch you meticulously paint each nail with care.

you continue to repeat the process for a second coat, ensuring the color would but rich and vibrant. it’s only when you finish painting his second pinky purple that you notice his stare. you lay his hand back on the towel before looking over to him, realizing he’d been staring at you, causing you to do a double take.

“what?” you ask, pushing up your glasses that were slipping down your nose, tilting your head to the side. his cheeks redden slightly, before smiling and shaking his head. “nothing.” he looks down at his nails, his smile getting impossibly bigger. “it looks so good bug, thank you.” you smile.

“i’m glad you like them.” you say before grabbing the top coat giving it a shake. “alright i’m gonna give that a few minutes to dry then i’ll put on the top coat. and then once that’s dry you’ll be all set.” he nods, turning his attention back to the cartoon.

you place the clear bottle on your desk before scooting slightly closer to him and the desk. you relax back in your chair, placing your arm on his back, hand landing in his hair, lightly scratching his scalp. he lets out a hum of satisfaction, leaning his head back into your hand like a cat.

a few minutes pass and you decide it’s time to apply the top coat. you sit up, taking your hand out of his hair, shaking the bottle once more. you hear a whine coming from beside you. “what’s wrong?” you ask, looking over him.

he pouts before letting out a yawn. “i was almost asleep.” he say through the yawn. “well let me finish this quick then we can go lay down okay?” he nods, before yawning once more. you made quick work of coating each nail with the clear polish. “ alright sleepy head, you’re all done.” you screw the top back on, gathering all your tools and paints, putting them away neatly.

“what about your nails?” he asks through a yawn once more. “i’ll do them tomorrow, right now i think it’s time for bed.” you say, taking the headphones off his head, running your hand through his soft hair. he gives you an understanding hum, before closing his eyes.

you place your headphones in their respective place before closing all your tabs and shutting off the colorful pc. you stand up, chan following closely behind. “just be mindful of your nails okay? the top coat is still wet.” you warn helping him up before pushing the chair back to the corner. he comes up behind you, placing his arms around your waist, chin on your shoulder before following you out of the room.

you flip the light off as you walk out, making your way to your shared bedroom. you switch on your bedside lamp before you round the bed to your sleepy boy’s side, giving his arm a tap, signaling him to let go. once he lets go, you move the blankets, giving him space to lay down. 

he sits down, moving to get under the covers with your help. “careful bubba.” you remind him, as he settles into the soft mattress. he lifts his hands as you move the blanket to cover him. you round the bed sliding under the blankets before putting adventure time on the tv and turning off the light.

chan opens his arms for you to lay in, burrowing into his chest, getting comfy. “i love you, sweetheart.” he mumbled, kissing your head before letting out another yawn. “i love you too, channie.” you say, placing a kiss above his heart as his breathing evens out, taking him into dreamland as you follow slowly behind him.

We have made it through another decade, everyone. As we reach the end of the 1970's, we are also reaching the end of disco. This is something that makes this genre stand out in a historic sense. Because while we've covered many genres tied to their decade (traditional pop with the 50s, doo-wop with the 60s, etc), those didn't necessarily end the moment the decade switched over. We're still in disco's peak (the dance party before the storm), and many of the songs and artists featured on today's poll are still considered classics. Fun fact, the original name for Chic's Le Freak was called Fuck Off!, which in my opinion is the correct way to sing along to it. The song was written after the band couldn't get into Studio 54, the disco hot spot of the 1970's.

Which brings us to the first crumbling pillar that will send disco collapsing. As disco became mainstream, the aesthetics of disco became less about marginalized people surrounding themselves with opulence and luxury as an escape, and more about...the opulent surrounding themselves with more luxury. The communities who had built this subculture were getting priced out of their own hot spots as the upper class and the celebrities flocked to the hot new thing.

But the disco backlash wasn't just marginalized people and disco purists frustrated with the gentrification and commodification of their subculture. In fact, I think it's safe to say that they were the minority. In reality, the disco backlash had two main prongs: the general music-listening public who was sick of hearing disco on every station, and/or bigots who would hate any kind of Black or gay music they heard no matter how commercialized it became.

So, let's talk about Disco Demolition Night.

July 12th, 1979, the rock vs. disco conflict reached its ugliest peak as tens of thousands of people stormed Comiskey Park in Chicago. Disco records were crushed, burned, and even blown up. The event soon broke out into a riot and thankfully no one was killed, but the demonstration still casts an unpleasant shadow over this moment in music history.

I don't want to diminish the ugliness of this event. As Craig Werner, a professor of African American studies at the University of Wisconsin put it:

"The Anti-disco movement represented an unholy alliance of funkateers and feminists, progressives and puritans, rockers and reactionaries. None the less, the attacks on disco gave respectable voice to the ugliest kinds of unacknowledged racism, sexism and homophobia." (A Change Is Gonna Come)

And to quote Chic's Nile Rogers:

"It felt to us like Nazi book-burning. This is America, the home of jazz and rock and people were now afraid even to say the word 'disco'. I remember thinking - we're not even a disco group."

So I don't want to imply that Disco Demolition Night wasn't a shameful moment, because it was. However, it didn't kill disco. I see a lot of music retrospectives use this event as the one climactic moment that killed the genre and forced music itself to change. And I get why; it's an exciting and narratively satisfying conclusion to come to. But I don't want to say that, because I don't want to give Steve Dahl, the anti-disco shock jock radio DJ who organized the event, the credit in taking down an entire subculture.

Commercialization killed disco. White executives and artists cramming disco into everything without appreciating its roots killed disco. Gentrification killed disco. Changing tastes killed disco. Homophobia and racism killed disco. Capitalism killed disco.

A radio DJ and his angry drunk white boy fans storming a baseball stadium didn't kill disco. But it was the symptom of a disease that was already coursing through the system.

And despite the genre's historic death, disco would actually continue to live on past this decade in a variety of ways. Much like most other genres, disco was able to change and evolve with the times -- it just couldn't do so under the "disco" label as even the name itself became poison.

Also, as I said I keep these polls focused on the U.S. charts because that's where I'm from so I have a better understanding of the musical and historic context. However, it seems like disco's death was mostly contained to this country. When I glance at the various European charts (and any European followers can feel free to correct me), disco didn't seem to drop off in the same way. This will become relevant when we cover some of the European crossovers in a few decades.

So as we celebrate/mourn the end of the seventies with its last dance party, we can all come together and agree that whether you're a rock fan or a disco fan, at least most of your music has aged better than talk radio.

The bright light seeping into your room through your curtains only made your head pound harder. Suddenly you felt bile burn its way up your throat. You quickly ran into your bathroom. Mid puke you felt gentle hands gathering your hair to hold it away from your face. Then you felt a gentle rubbing on your back. 

You know that it’s Hyeongjun and it kind of makes you feel worse. He always sees you in your worst state, yet for some reason he never leaves. Even though he knows all of the bad things you do. You no where near deserve him, but you can’t lie and say that you don’t have feelings for him. He took care of you, cared for you. Even though you don’t necessarily care about yourself. Anyone who looked at you could tell that. Your unkempt hair, dark eyebags, untidy clothes. You looked very grunge in a non-aesthetic way. 

You slumped against the bathroom floor after emptying whatever contents were in your stomach. Hyeongjun wipes your mouth with a tissue and discards it into the trash before helping you up. He guides you over to your small couch, sitting you down. He then goes to your kitchen getting you a bottle of water and pain relievers. He comes back over to where you sat and gives them to you. 

“I didn’t do anything too stupid last night did I?” you asked after taking the two small pills. You remember hardly anything about last night after you finished your set at a bar. Hyeongjun shook his head, taking a seat next to you. 

“Just called me drunk, so I picked you up.” That’s good. You were no stranger to starting a bar fight or two, so at least you only made one mistake that night. You should be better, you want to be better. Be a person that deserves Hyeongjun. It’s just that everytime you tried you always ended up falling right back into your bad habits. That saying really is true, old habits do die hard. You felt pathetic and sick of yourself. You really did need to change. Maybe you should start with finding your hairbrush. 

“Didn’t really expect you to show up today,” your co-worker at your part time job tells you. You turned towards them to give them a look. “You don’t remember last night at all, do you?” he asked. 

“Not really,” you mized, going back to stalking items on the shelf. 

“Let’s just say you were pretty gone. Not surprised you don’t remember running into me,” he continues to talk to you. 

“Look, can you just do your job? My head hurts,” you bite. He raises his hands in defense and walks away from you. You continued working until your shift ended. 

Once you got back from work you actually cleaned your apartment. For the first time in you don’t know how long. You discovered that your little laundry did have a floor hiding beneath all the layers of discarded clothing. The dirty clothes now sit in the designated basket that you’ll get to another day. Baby steps, you tell yourself. 

Later that evening you headed out to do some busking. A nice way of making a few extra dollars. 

“Hey y/n.” One of your busking…acquaintances (you weren’t really one for friends. Other than Hyeongjun) came up to you as you were putting away your things. 

“Hey,” you meekly replied. 

“Me and some others are gonna go have some fun. You wanna come?” She invited you. Yes you want to, but you know you shouldn’t. It won’t end well. Your life will continue to be pathetic if you go. A life where you don’t deserve Hyeongjun.

“No, I’ll pass,” you say. 

“Oh come on! Let’s let loose tonight,” she tests you.

“You let loose every night,” you scoffed. 

“I don’t know why I try to be nice to you. You really are just a bitch.” With that she walks away. You gathered your things and went home. It felt weird, you were never home this early. You were usually out doing things you know you shouldn’t be into late hours of the night or early morning. 

You sat on your couch bored. What did normal people do at this time of night? It wasn’t even 9:30 yet. Going out for a little bit couldn’t hurt right? You stood up about to head for your door. No, don’t do it. You know how it’ll end. You kept standing up and sitting down, battling yourself. Maybe you should just go to bed. 

You can’t sleep. You're not used to sleeping this early. Tossing and turning from one side to another. Pulling the blanket up higher, throwing it off you. Having it half on half off. Then your phone lights up. You picked it up, it was text. “Heard you were staying in tonight?” it read. “Piss off” you responded. Before putting your phone back you found yourself calling Hyeongjun. 

“Hello.” He picked up right away. 

“..Hey,” you said. This felt a little weird. You don’t really remember the last time you called him sober. 

“Are you ok?” Of course that’s the first question he asks. You don’t really know how to answer.

“Uh- yeah. I’m actually home right now,” you tell him. Hyeongjun was admittedly surprised to hear that. “Can you come over? I know it’s late, but…” You don’t trust yourself, but if Hyeongjun is with you then you know you won’t do anything bad. 

“I’ll be right over,” he says. 

He meant right over, no more than fifteen minutes you were letting Hyeongjun inside of your apartment. 

“You cleaned,” he noted.

“Yeah. My laundry room has a floor,” you chuckled. The two of you walked over to your little couch. You anxiously picked at your nails with shaky hands. Hyeongjun quickly notices and places his warm, gentle ones over your own.

“Are you ok y/n?” The caring look in his eyes makes you break.

“Why do you care?” Tears glazed over your eyes. 

“What?” He holds your hands tighter. 

“Why are you still here? Why do you stay? How come you haven’t left me? I’m a terrible person Hyeongjun,” you sobbed. “I have way too many bad habits. You know all the things I do. All the things I’ve done. I’m mean to everyone who’s not you. I’m really pathetic and I want to change. I want to be a better person, but it’s hard. It’s so tempting to just go back to how I originally am. I can’t even trust myself to stay in for one night!” You shouted, but it was at yourself. You’re so angry with yourself for letting you get to such a low point. Hyeongjun hugs you. One of his hands cradles your head and the other rubs your back. Just as gently as he did this morning.

“It’s ok. You’ll be ok. I’m right here,” he soothes you. Your hands clutched his shirt so tightly like you were scared he would disappear.

“Why?” Now your voice was no higher than a whisper. 

“Because I love you.” He said it so easily. You made a confused sound, thinking you must’ve heard wrong. “I love you y/n,” he repeated.

“I don’t deserve it,” you voiced pulling away. “I want to deserve it. I want to be a person who deserves your love, but I know right now I’m not.” You looked down at your lap. Hyeongjun once again grabs your hands. You look up at him.

“That’s for me to decide. I get to decide who I love, who deserves my love and I love you.” You want to confess your love for him back, but at the same time you don’t feel like you’re a good enough person to. You’ll wait until you're good enough. 

“Thank you.” Is how you respond. Hyeongjun hugs you again.

It took a very long time for you to clean up your act. There were triumphs and setbacks, but you did it. Sometimes you still had thoughts about going back to your old bad habits, but now you were strong enough to not listen to them. Hyeongjun stayed by your side the entire time. Now you have no problem saying.

“Hyeongjun I love you.” 

“I love you too y/n.” He has no problem saying it either, not like he ever did, but now you feel like you deserve it. You became a person who was good enough for Hyeongjun. Although he thought you were good enough the entire time. He never saw you as your flaws, he only saw you as you.

Day 7: 100 Days of Productivity

Hello!! Today was the last day of classes, it felt weird today like I was a senior taking graduating photos around campus. I guess it's because I remember how I felt when I was a senior in high school getting ready to graduate. I have exams next week and then I officially finished my first year of college !! I didn't do too well on my sociology quiz which brought my grade down a bit but hopefully I will do well on my exam on Monday to bring it back up! I finished my extra credit assignments for Biology and Art History! I got a 96 on the very last art hist quiz. Tomorrow I am studying with a group of friends for psychology. I will miss them a lot next year, they truly made my second semester enjoyable! I did not work today so that is a two day streak resting :/, I will make sure to get my steps in tomorrow and Sunday to make up the workouts lost. I hung out with a friend after my classes around downtown shopping and talking shit in a cafe, very therapeutic. I am so excited this semester is ending but I still have to lock in for exams. After I submit this post I will be doing laundry and start studying for my psychology final.

I am open to suggestions on how I can make my posts more aesthetic and pleasing to read/see. I would love to grow my audience!

PSA from a fandom con photographer

As some of you know, I'm a con photographer. A while back, a bunch of us joined a group chat together, and we talk about all things cons and photography in there. Recently, the subject of photo theft has come up again, but this time a new comment was made and that's why I'm here.

In the past, I've heard photographers express frustration about people reposting our photos with watermarks cropped out or otherwise removed. Sometimes, these photos are edited further and someone else's watermark slapped on top of it. This is disrespectful, at best, and really offends the original photographer. Usually, this is done in an effort to gain clout online, and not for any artistic reasons. This is not what I'm here to talk about.

I know that a lot of folks on Tumblr use con photos for fic headers and aesthetics and such, especially for RPF fics. (Because we can totally tell whether a photo is Jensen or Dean, even with the background edited out, he's just that good.) It's come to my attention that some photographers would be REALLY uncomfortable with their art being used this way. They don't read fic, they don't understand it, or they just don't want their art used in a way that misinterprets the moment captured in the photo, even if it's fiction.

We need to respect this.

How do we feel when someone reblogs our fics and uses it to prop up an argument about our characters that we disagree with? We feel kinda shitty. That's how photographers feel when their photos are used in ways they weren't consulted about.

How do we fix this?

When you search Google and find an image from a con, do a reverse lookup on that image and AT LEAST TRY to find the original photographer. If the photo has been taken in the last year or so, you can come to me and see if I know who took it, too.

Ask that photographer if they are okay with you using their image in the way you intend. I know this is a pain, but remember how you'd feel if someone used your art without asking permission!

Many times, if you ask, the answer will be yes. Sometimes, it may be no. Please respect the answer you receive.

If you honestly try and can't find the photographer, then at least put a comment captioning this on the post where you use the photo. If you make a good faith effort and express this in your caption, that at least lets us know that you tried.

Personal note from me: If you like any of my photos, you are welcome to use them. I know I don't make the best photos in the fandom, so this isn't much, but it's there.

Also, "credit to Google" or "I found this on Google" is not credit. Google does not create images. Google only indexes them.

Just remember that there is a person behind every image and piece of art you find on Google.

Also, if you don't contact the artist/photographer, how does that person know that you liked their work? They don't. This is the same as if someone reads your fic but doesn't hit the heart or reblog it. Personally, I LOVE getting asked about my photos the same way I love hearing feedback on my fics. Let your photographer know you love their work!

I've been asked about screen grabs and gifs. I'm referencing just those photos taken by people at cons. Screengrabs and gifs also take talent to create, so if you can find out who made them and give them credit, that's awesome. Photos taken from the star's Twitter or IG....that's a good question. Credit would go to them, but they are impossible to ask if they mind. An argument could also be made that they know what might happen to any photo they put out there. (Maybe put a link to the original as credit?)

It was only recently that I saw someone comment about their photo being used to apply a narrative to Jensen based on his facial expression in the photo, and a brief mention of fic happened right after that, and I just got the feeling that certain photographers would not be pleased to know how we use their photos, sometimes.

As far as I know, no photographer has found their photo in a fic header and complained. But based on what was said, if they did, they might not be happy. And not just because most photos used in a fic header end up being further edited to make it work with the header, beyond cropping. For instance, an asexual photographer might feel icky about their photo being used as a header for a smut fic.

TL;DR - Credit your photographers in your headers, edits, and mood boards when at all possible. Make the effort to contact them and ask for permission. Some may give you blanket permission as I have. Some may not. Either way, this is their art that you're manipulating, so please respect it.

It’s not required and honestly my main blog is just the classic tumblr theme. I just change the color schemes depending on the banner I’ve chosen. I also prefer the grid view so I can see around 4 columns of content since that is my main blog for posting fangirling content + ongoing fics + random stuff. For ggukkiereads, I really prefer if content is posted per column and I decided to choose from different theme creators!

🌷 banners and profile pictures

For banner making, I just use Canva. My pfp is butter Joonie/sugakitty which I had commissioned and I can just change or use them in all banners as I wish. There’d be banners on twitter too for profile layouts that you can use for free but they are usually for twitter layouts. If you like some you can ask the artist if you can use the profile photo or banner for tumblr instead of twitter.

If you need to remove a background, there is a free bg remover online. 

Note: important to give credit to the source. In my blogs, I usually document where I get the photos, etc.

🌷 color schemes

I just used Canva for the color codes (hex codes). Tumblr will also suggest a color palette when you’re choosing the blog colors. I guess just experiment and have fun with it? See what colors you like or speak to you.

🌷 mobile

Please note that sometimes your desktop theme will look different on mobile. And this gives me headaches and I am not prepared to give tips because it’s a “let’s wing it” process for me when setting my mobile theme. I guess try simple themes first? Then once you are confident with theme changing, you can start customizing more details of your blog for mobile (you have to use customize for mobile link which you can find on your dashboard settings)

If an image must be used that's not copyright free (eg. a celebrity) you must credit when you sourced the image from.

Follow tutorials to help you with certain techniques you wish to try.

Text must be written by you.

Any quotes from others should be clearly credited.

Download and install fonts from dafont.com as necessary.

Try to vary your written content.

Design

Your magazine is being created in Adobe InDesign.

Use Photoshop or Illustrator to edit images / create illustrations etc then bring them over to InDesign.

Stick to your chosen moodboard's aesthetic.

Extend any backgrounds all the way out to the red line (the bleed) - this is helpful when printing your magazines.

Export your finished designs as PDFs.
