I don't have a lot on my Reverse Falls take yet but yeah, Fiddleford and Ms. Gleeful interchange places (I swear I was inspired by a fanart of her during the portal incident but I can't for the love of me find it)

She fulfills the role closer to her counterpart; that is that she took her family to Gravity Falls to work on the portal with The Author ™️, had the portal incident and eventually created the memory gun. Here she only created it after the portal incident, and didn't go off the deep end until about two years after The Author's ™️ dissappearance— I understand the pain you must've gone through making the timeline work because I am suffering too. She can't recognize anyone in her family, and Gideon was sent to California to live with his aunt as his dad didn't want him in this mess. Bud tries to visit her sometimes to at least give her commodities but it is too much to see her like that, tells Gideon she's missing. Some day I'll make a proper thing explaining how the Blind Eye Society episode would go down because it's going to be heavy and angsty

For now, this is what I got on that:

Fiddleford remains a minor character. Married to Stan, a nervous wreck when he isn't completely spaced out. Mason and Mabel pretend not to notice his disassociation episodes tend to get worse after a fight with Stan, or that he always seems to forget what said fight was about

This makes me super excited to talk about, tbh he deserves his own post anyway!! Cause hoo boy there's a lot to unpack!! Forgive me for all the words, takes a lot to get to the main stuff.

Also thank you to @danklemckspankle for helping with a lot of the details. It's a collaborative project 💪

Let's get into it, shall we??

So! Ford in this au didn't get his science fair project wrecked by Stanley. Now Stan did drop it, but funny enough, to Stan's hopes it did work. Now that might sound like a copout, but it actually is a very damning event for Ford.

Ford gets the scholarship, and goes to West Coast Tech. He thrives, but amongst all these other geniuses he's just another face in the crowd. Now he's busy at school, but he doesn't get the research grant for Gravity Falls because he's just another smart guy.

He returns home after college and his father is expecting him to have millions and already have a job and a bunch of money. But Ford tells him that he's looking into it and doesn't have anything yet. He needs to stay at home until he can get an opportunity, but his father doesn't take too kindly to that. He kicks Ford out. Unknown to Ford, Stan isn't waiting at home due to also being kicked out. So Ford thinks his whole family abandoned him. He thinks Stan is out adventuring the world. So he's all alone without a place to stay.

Ford has already heard of Gravity Falls, even going as far to write a thesis on the weirdness of the town. But it wasn't what the college wanted, and they even went as far as to reject the thesis and the request for a research grant. So now Ford is stuck.

He does odd jobs around the states and winds up in Gravity Falls. One of those jobs landed him a place in the town. Now he hasn't commissioned Boyish (not yet Manly) Dan to make the shack yet, so he couch surfs. He does research on the side for Gravity Falls, eventually finding a cave painting of a weird zodiac and a triangle.

He summons Bill, and they make a deal for Ford to make a portal for him. Ford requests that he has a partner in knowledge and power in return. They shake on it. You need to understand that Bill isn't yet all sad boy in this as he is in the original au, cause it'd be a bit hard to change an integral part of him. Just bear with me for now!

Now Ford isn't well acquainted on the engineering side of things, so he's in a bit of a pickle.

But!! Lucky for Ford, there's a southern hick a couple states away that matches his smarts! A scientist named Fiddleford McGucket made a personal computer that while expensive, Ford managed to get his hands on! This guy seems promising, so Ford reaches out to him with a request and shares his thesis on Gravity Falls to hopefully drag him in.

McGucket loves it! So they agree to work in Gravity Falls together and they build the portal.

On the side however, Ford is talking with Bill. He fills his head with dreams and visions of acknowledgement. It's everything he's needed and more. It kinda goes to his head as he ignores personal needs like eating in return for the dreams. The dapper dorito eats up the seeming gullibility of the scientist. Inflating his ego to the damn heavens at this point.

Ford and McGucket have been arguing on the side as the research gets back seated. After a test with the portal, McGucket falls in and sees what's on the other side. He tells Ford something is wrong with the project and goes radio silent for a couple weeks before returning back in hopes of convincing Ford the dangers and hoping to see it through.

At this point it's important to note the Gremloblin incident didn't happen so the memory gun has not been made. Despite McGucket's hopes the portal is almost finished at this point and it seems like it's all Ford cares about.

Eventually an altercation arises as McGucket realizes Ford is not stopping. He tries to tell Ford of the danger and what he saw. He says he misses time with his family and wants to go home. Nothing is right anymore and he's being plagued daily with nightmares and declining mental health.

Ford is fed up at this point. He comes to a realization, that everyone has only ever told him what he can and can't do. This is his one shot, a chance to make everyone see. Everyone see him.

He pushes McGucket into the portal.

Oopsies. That's a problem!! Welp. He has no assistant now. Now granted, Bill is real happy for interruption being gone, but good ol' Sixer doesn't work with engineering. Someone else has to step in!

So Bill gets on his case now. Even tho McGucket has been dealt with, the portal isn't finished! So he threatens him, simple threats really. Stealing eyes, puncturing holes in a lung, just basic stuff.

Suffice to say Ford isn't happy about this. He's being rushed, and he already had a hell of a reawakening. So he starts to get back at Bill for his harping. Using his power to harness the portal. Experiments to see how he interacts with the world, testing the limits of Bill's body. All under the guise of research. On a...base level of course! All research is important, but Bill has become an obstacle on his own.

Bill was never his muse, just....a means to an end.

So Ford calls Stanley. Of course he doesn't forgive him for not asking about him, but that doesn't matter now. There's more important things to tend to. His brother has actually ended up making money, if the number of commercials he's seen on the television says anything.

He keeps Stanley at arms length, never actually letting him see the portal. Vague explanations of an important project, he just needs Stan's funding and some parts, he can handle the heavy lifting. Lest someone meddle into his work again

He has another side project on his mind, a little bunker somewhere in the woods of the town. In case of a cataclysmic event, or man eating creatures. Do he gets Stanley to help build it for him. Floor planning, parts, doors, tech and all that.

The interactions between them are kept to a minimum, to keep from bothersome questions and meddling. Eventually Stan has enough from the cold treatment and backs out, saying he's got better things to tend to. (In a future post I'll probably elaborate more on Stan :] )

So Stanley leaves. Keep in mind it's the 90s now, and even if technology improves, this isn't a one man job. No matter how much Bill likes to say he's support. You could say Ford is more focused on the portal than Bill, who had the idea in the first place! But whatever, it'll all be worth it once it's done.

He figures maybe he could do this alone, the last two people turned out to be hindrances, so maybe for a year or two he could try his luck.

Of course he gets side tracked with messing with Bill, with his harping on the portal growing less and less. He even....starts to slowly change color? Growing less yellow and more dull. That's something to research more! His research is definitely not humane, but Bill isn't human! He's a triangle! So what does it matter? This won't have repercussions!!

When Bill possesses his body from time to time, he tries to mess with him, but it weirdly doesn't deter Ford, only spurs him forward. Anything to test the limits of Bill. For science!

The couple years of working alone don't prove at all very helpful. Unfortunately, it looks to be like he needs a new assistant and he needs to get back on track. That bunker won't make itself!

So he calls someone new. The last two people proved to only be hindrances, and he actually went easy on Stanley all things considered. But he needs to be more hands on!

So he calls a lady who just moved to Gravity Falls with her husband, someone unaccustomed and unbiased. A one, Mrs. Gleeful.

She is decent enough as an assistant, proving actual decent company. Being that she doesn't question the work or interrupt. She does what is asked, serving coffee if needed, or getting spare parts.

It lasts up until late 2003, where she reveals she's having a child with her husband. She needs maternity leave, but she claims it won't interfere! So long as she swears.

She has her child the next year, but something changes. A couple months after, she makes the same claims of her family needing her. Claiming they're more important than the project.

This doesn't go on well. A spark goes off in Ford's brain. The last time this was brought up it didn't go well. So he digs up old blueprints, something he was working on when McGucket was around.

He erases parts of her memory when he calls her back. Her thoughts of her family are gone, they don't exist in her brain anymore. He tells her they're roommates working on a project, and convinces her to stay.

If she questions him or asks about her family he erases her memories again, and again, and again.

This goes on for a year, and eventually her mind turns to mush. Leaving her a crazed shaky husk of a sensible woman. She is too crazed to work with anymore, so he kind of sets her free like an animal. Throwing her into the woods for whatever creature out there.

Word reaches round of a missing woman relating to a researcher. This naturally reaches Stanley's ears for his penchant for gossip. He tries not to assume the worst and visits Ford.

Ford is so sucked into his work, solidifying his previous belief of doing work on his own. The portal is just one move away from opening, Bill has shut up, and no one is in his way.

Until Stanley. He visits, and sees the man Ford has turned into, and all hope he ever had is gone. He decides to needs to do something about this, stop whatever his twin is up to.

He leads him to the bunker to talk. But when his fears are confirmed true, he punches him. Brass knuckles reluctantly worn. The altercation results in cracked glasses and shards of glass cutting an eye, Ford goes blind in his left eye.

With the man injured, Stanley leaves the bunker and closes it, locking his brother in. No amount of begging or yelling will get Stan to open the door.

During the time he was alone, Ford had a creature in the bunker to study. It was thought to be too dangerous, but that same claim doesn't hold up anymore.

He still has the contract with Bill. So the two are trapped with Ford. The only ones to talk to for 7-8 years. He pushes his anger onto Bill, and talks to the Shapeshifter in spare time. The only beings to talk to for so long does things to your brain. Not good.

So when eventually two young kids open the bunker, he has some plans to set in motion, particularly considering a certain triangle.

So!!! That's the overall idea, ofc to elaborate on more when I talk about the mystery twins and Stan since that could tie more things in. And also weirdmageddon (normageddon? Fordmageddon?) would have to be it's own thing.

But uhhh, art!!

This was a little idea of what Ford would look like post bunker, or after getting out. (Ignore the lack of sideburns this is all I have rn)

Bill changes his name shortly before the mystery twins summon him, cause like. Oof. Separate himself from the guy that outcrazied him!!

Probably a future post about Bill would be better, cause like the physical, emotional, and mental torture he went through is kinda glossed through in this. It's mostly Ford heavy and on his side of things.

But!!! I had fun establishing all this, again my friend is to thank for a lot of this stuff. I recommend following or sending an ask to get his side of this!!

Oh also he couldn't have gotten out of the bunker since it remained semi unfinished, since Ford focused more on the portal. So he's trapped until into the bunker 🤷‍♀️

I saw this on a blog and I wasn’t tagged, but it’s been a rough one lately so I figured, what the hell, and stole it. That’s right. I’m a hardened, dangerous criminal. Ladies, hold on to your hearts.

In order of probable proximity to publication:

Something Borrowed, Something Blues (aka ‘Reincarnation Blues 2: Electric Blues-galoo’): This one’s actually already posted to AO3. It was the last of my great ‘post each chapter as you write it’ projects and, well, it’s currently demonstrating why that’s a dangerous way to post fanfiction, as it’s been on unannounced and indefinite hiatus since 2020. I do intend to come back and finish it, it’s just...been a time.

the road goes ever on (aka ‘the monster longfic’ or ‘the monster Stranger Things longfic’): This beast is finally drafted! ...annnnnd needs a few structural edits and a looot of nitpicking before anybody else’s eyeballs are allowed on it. What started out as a fun silly immediately-post-season-three canon-divergence AU romp about Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley getting superpowers and also having to deal with an alien monster imprinting on them both like a duckling quickly ballooned into a horrific mutant hybrid of that story, a here-is-every-problem-I-had-with-the-season’s-characterisation coda to s3, and an extended-Labyrinth-reference narrative arc all about El dealing with grief and guilt and coming to terms with everything she’s lost in exchange for her freedom. I promise it’s still going to be fun, though. Totally. 

put your curse in reverse (aka ‘superpowers fic season two’):  The sequel to the kids aren’t alright, aka ‘the one where (nearly) all the main characters from Stranger Things have powers and (nearly) none of them know it’. Season two, but with some additional characters stirred into the mix, many friendships that weren’t present in canon s2, and at least one bonus love-triangle-to-polyamorous-triad subplot. This beast is nearly drafted, and if I could figure out why I keep feeling like it’s stupid and I’ve gone horribly wrong, and whether that feeling is accurate or just a natural low in the writing cycle, I could probably finish it off in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately...I can’t yet figure out if it’s actually stupid and I’ve gone horribly wrong. Writing is hard.

how many times do you want to die (aka ‘groudhog day but it’s halloween and every time bob newby dies it gets faster’): Absolutely nobody asked for this and you’re getting it anyway. Time loop fic for my beloved pool noodle Joyce/Bob/Hopper because there is nowhere near enough fic for them, I’m actively recruiting, and also I just think Bob Newby is neat. And I've had some additional characterisation thoughts since the last time I wrote for this trio. This one would be done already if I could just figure out this final loop - the characters have a plan, and obviously narratively it has to go wrong somehow, and the solution to that ‘going wrong somehow’ has to also resolve the romantic plot, but I’m still mired in the details. I don’t want to just rehash what happened in canon, but I also don’t want to reinvent the wheel. 

why can’t we be ourselves like we were yesterday: This one doesn’t have a funny working title because the actual title, from notable 80s OT3 anthem ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ by New Order, fell into my head fully formed the instant I conceived of this idea. Bodyswap fic, Steve/Nancy/Jonathan, post-s3. Fix-it for all of their interpersonal problems and not a whole lot else. Fun subplot that the kids are all bodyswapped as well but the teens don’t notice. I have just run out of scenarios to write into scenes and oomph to keep going, so this one’s on a backburner.

the same small town in each of us (aka ‘relativity falls but it’s stranger things’): Ageswap AU of season one of Stranger Things where the kids are the teens, the teens are the adults, and the adults are the kids.  Hawkins Chief of Police Nancy Wheeler and single father Jonathan Byers search for a missing girl and uncover a government conspiracy, while twelve-year-old Karen Harrington and Jim Hopper hunt a monster, and seventeen-year-old Mike Harrington and Will Byers try to help a psychic fugitive rescue her long-lost little sister from the Hawkins National Lab. I’ve recently had a revelation about one of the antagonists that I think is gonna be really good, but it means I have to do a little rethinking of what I’ve already written. And also, I’m still trying to piece together the plot between what I’ve already written and the ending I have in mind. Like I said before, I don’t want to just rehash canon, but with different faces in different places. Even in rewrites of canon, I want to surprise people!

Le Morte d’Artificial Intelligence (aka ‘lesbian apocalypse robot tony stark, serial numbers filed off edition’): I posted about this piece of original fiction a million years ago (read: in spring 2020), and then did not finish it because I got really into Stranger Things and had to put everything on hold to exorcise the monster longfic from my brain first. I do still have the entire thing outlined, though, and I’m going to finish it. It’s not going to be a novel, maybe more like a novella, and I’m planning to put it up for free. If you’re interested in an artificial intelligence falling in love with a changeling who doesn’t realise she’s not a human woman, and also there are eldritch horrors that can only be defeated by the power of friendship and Ke$ha, and King Arthur is there? Stay tuned. 

circus luna: I’ve been working on this kids-on-bikes novel about an evil circus and the group of friends who have to oppose it for literally over a decade now and only just figured out how it ends. Knowing how it ends is the first step to actually plotting and outlining it, though, which is just one step away from drafting it, which is one step away from finishing it, so! I am grateful to the monster longfic and also the hollow, abandoned carcass of Kate Summer Vs. The Multiverse for teaching me, respectively, how to and how not to write a novel.

Fics I Absolutely Adore and Would Recommend to Anyone

I’ve been meaning to do this for a long, long time, because I love reading fanworks and they deserve a lot of love and I love sharing things that I love. 

Obviously this isn’t everything, and if it’s not on this list that doesn’t mean I don’t love it, it just means I forgot at this moment. I will be adding to the list and I remember things or come across it again. (Trying to sort through my bookmarks and subscriptions is like trying to catch a fish bare-handed.) I’m also gonna shy away from the one-shots, even though I adore fun one-shots, just for the sake of organization. The list would be super long otherwise, and those are best sorted by fandom. Here... Here are just some brilliant works I want to rant about. 

Disclaimer: I say “recommend” because I would recommend these works, any time any place, but do keep in mind the story’s rating and tags and stuff. Not everything is kid-friendly.

There is absolutely no hierarchy to the list below. They are added as I add.

Fairy Dance of Death

Fandom: Sword Art Online Word Count: 660,282 Status: ongoing

「AU reboot of the entire SAO storyline, beginning from the premise that Kayaba Akihiko was obsessed with magic and Norse Mythology rather than swords and pure melee. As a result, he created the Death Game of Alfheim Online rather than the floating castle of Aincrad—a world in which player-killing is not a crime, and the nine player races are in competition with each other to reach the top of the World Tree. Multi-POV epic following the stories of multiple canon characters throughout the game.」

If Catsy wrote the SAO light novels and anime, SAO would be among the legendary series. Fairy Dance of Death has this amazingly simple premise of making Alfheim Online, the video game from the original series’ less-than-stellar second part, the game that the main cast becomes trapped in. However, it’s so much more. They took the characters and made them characters, and everyone gets ample spotlight—even background characters that normally wouldn’t receive a second thought. It’s masterful work, and to boot, there is a lovely frame of in-game mystery and player conflict. The organization is phenomenal and I aspire to world-build the way they did. Not to mention that stakes are so much higher and this series has ripped my heart to shreds more than once. 

It has also brought me great joy, and even when I was in the dumps and didn’t want to read anything, a FDOD update made me pick up my phone and read when I otherwise wouldn’t have. It has a really special place in my heart. It updates once in a blue moon, but that’s okay. 

Even if you have never seen a single piece of Sword Art Online, Fairy Dance of Death is still a great read. In fact, it’s the Better Version of SAO, if we’re all being honest, so I would especially recommend it if you hadn’t seen the original. Or if you have. The characters are given so much love and detail, to the point where Fairy Dance of Death’s characterizations are More Canon to me than Kawahara Reki’s work. It is just a beautiful piece of fiction, and it makes you question the depravity of man on levels that SAO shied away from. 

Poisoned Dreams

Fandom: Genshin Impact Word Count: 82,852 Status: Complete, with a complete sequel and more to come

「 Every night now, Diluc dreams of death. Usually Kaeya's. In between these nightmares his life is falling apart. It doesn't take Kaeya long to realize that this is something much more insidious than simple bad dreams. His brother's life and sanity are on the line and there is nothing Kaeya won't do to save him. Bonus chapter added.」

In a growing fandom from a new game, StrangeDiamond swooped in and characterized these bad boys so well I think it’s canon. It really breathes life into the video game lore, and it’s an A+ depiction of awkward sibling re-bonding post-Terrible-Happenings. Poisoned Dreams can be read alone with a basic understanding of Genshin storybuilding, but StrangeDiamond has an entire group of fics and oneshots set in the same headcanon, and they integrate them really well and subtly together. Not to mention that the narrative style is really clever with making you question what is real and what is dream (a big point in this story) and the inner voices of the point-of-view characters are very compelling. 

One Word to Change the World

Fandom: Fairy Tail Collective Word Count: 43,988 (30 parts) Status: probably never coming back

In other words, welcome to the Butterfly Effect - Fairy Tail style. 」

It’s a really cute canon-divergent, and while the series makes no attempt to re-write Fairy Tail, it addresses the major events and just snippets in between. It does a good job at giving the vast cast ample spotlight, but it’s also an easy read. It’s special to me because it was the series that made me really pay attention to Bickslow in particular, and I respect that.

Vigilantis Pretium Libertatis

Fandom: Attack on Titan Word Count: 399,226 Status: Complete

After five years of separation, of being raised apart to be heroes by a set of three very different adults, they meet again. As they uncover the truth behind their captivity they realize being free and being heroes are sadly nothing but an illusion. 」

This wrecked me.

I still remember when I read it. It was the beginning of 2018, and I had the flu and a lot of time on my hands, so I binge-read this. It was simultaneously the best and the worst thing I have ever done, because I resonated with it so deeply there were times I was just staring up at the ceiling wondering what was real. I empathized with the characters to a level I rarely achieve, and I empathize easily. I laughed. I cried. It was amazing.

I refer to this story in conversation to this day. It handled themes published authors have only dreamed of achieving. Heck, if Dani (the author) took out the names of the AoT cast and replaced it with new ones, it could be its own stand alone novel. It is worldbuilding from the ground up, and any fandom knowledge you take in with you is used against you like a knife leveraged against your throat. Yet, no one is out of character. It’s phenomenal. I would say more, but this is something I daren’t spoil for anybody, because you must be as wrecked as I was. Vigilantis Pretium Libertatis is a level of writing I achieve to gain as a writer myself. It is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Life in Glass Houses

Fandom: Transformers (Transformers Prime, Transformers: Shattered Glass) Word Count: 119,900 Status: Ongoing (maybe, I hope)

「 No one would have thought Bumblebee and Knock Out were capable of getting along, but when they're stuck in a strange new world and their only hope of survival is cooperation . . . Yeah, they're probably doomed. 」

I could be biased because Knock Out and Bumblebee are two of my favorite characters, but it really is brilliant. Two enemies, stuck together—but not in an overly cliché way. It’s the right amount of cliché, with heaps moral conflict and inner conflict and sometimes just beating each other with a broom when no one is looking. It’s also a fascinating look into what makes a character the way they are in relation to the morals they possess, and how stalwart those morals can be. I can’t help but think of this story whenever I see or write a “role reverse” or mirror-verse AU. It does an excellent job at making all of the characters engaging and their own character, despite being in a mirror-verse.

Yesterday Upon the Stair

Fandom: My Hero Academia Word Count: 424,070 Status: Complete

「 Midoriya Izuku has always been written off as weird. As if it's not bad enough to be the quirkless weakling, he has to be the weird quirkless weakling on top of it.

But truthfully, the "weird" part is the only part that's accurate. He's determined not to be a weakling, and in spite of what it says on paper, he's not actually quirkless. Even before meeting All-Might and taking on the power of One For All, Izuku isn't quirkless.

Not that anyone would believe it if he told them. 」

As a person who normally doesn’t read these kind of minor canon divergences, especially at the time of reading, I frickin’ love this fic. In fact, I think YUTS gave me a deep appreciation for canon divergence fics. It’s MHA in all of its glory but it’s so much more, and even the parts that rehash canon give new light to the characters and their points of view. 

I had read Viper’s work before and saw Yesterday Upon the Stair filling my inbox, and then I finally watched My Hero Academia. It was one of the first MHA fics I read and it still has a very special place in my heart. I recommend this series to people who don’t even watch MHA; in fact, there are some who might prefer the darker tones and themes of heroism vs apathy to the main series. Not to mention the writing style is phenomenal, and I aspire to be that good. It made me laugh. It made me cry. Yes, tears streaming down my face crying. It is the best ghost story I have ever read.

Have you enjoyed the MCU, especially the first-era Avengers phase, but like me, were disappointed in the fact that Hawkeye was barely there? The VP universe is for you. 

I honestly have a hard time remembering what was canon and what was VP. And if it’s not canon, it should be. The VP universe gave so much life to Clint and to Natasha and to all of SHIELD and even the rest of the Avengers. It’s just...so good. It’s completely immersive. It focuses a lot on Hawkeye and Black Widow from before the Avengers team-up, as well as after, and it all flows together so beautifully. Not to mention that I can be reading a mission that happened pre-series, so I know that they are going to live with all of their limbs, and I still sit there on the edge of my seat the whole time.

The OCs, minor as they are, that are created for this are also wonderfully done. I can’t believe Dan and Phil don’t exist in canon. Every character, canon or no, is engaging and dynamic, it is a pleasure to follow each point of view. The emotional turmoil is also handled very well, and the VP universe carries the MCU trend of humanizing its heroes and takes it so much further.

Okay so this is the only one that isn’t an Ao3 story, but rather a comic on DeviantArt. However, it is still one of my favorite stories. Even though it takes the commonalities of Sonic canon and turns them on its head, GotF really treats the characters well. There are enough familiar world elements to create intrigue, but it is set in a completely different take of the future, so there is ample opportunity for world building and being able to engage with a completely new thing. I wish SEGA put as much love in the series (namely the games, because the comics are *chef’s kiss*) and all of its possibilities as creators like Evan Stanley do.

The friendship and family relationships in GotF are so diverse and all so fantastic to witness. It’s a keynote example of the new hero and the old veterans, and both parties are active and trying their best.

Do not be alarmed by the starting art style. Sure, it’s rough around the edges at first, but then it gets better, and then it gets gorgeous, and then you’re left there so stunned that it looks like just life canon art. And then you could be like me, blinking slowly as my small brain finally connected that this Evan Stanley is in fact the Evan Stanley. GotF is an amazing fanwork, but she also draws and writes for the Official Canon comics (the IDW ones now) and that work is also phenomenal and should be supported. 

Whirlwind

I have to start by saying that I adore all of Lynse’s fics, and I chose this one simply because it is one of my favorites. But it’s all fantastic, one hundred percent. I also love Mirrored, the sort-of prequel to this fic, but Whirlwind just has the chaotic pure bean energy that each of the shows bring and it foils against each other so perfectly. This is the epitome of the Secret Quartet crossover, truly.

All fandoms and all characters get ample love, and the way the reader gets to see just how badly the characters’ assumptions are going is positively wonderful. It’s so easy to fall into the “I know what’s happening and so do the characters” trap, but Lynse leaps over it gracefully and lands in greatness. The fic had me smiling like a maniac one minute, and feeling sorry for my babies the next. Wonderful. Simply fantastic!

Reverse AU, Maiev as Demon Hunter and Illidan as Warden/Guard captian!

I don’t know if you already know about it, or if you’re new to my writing, but I mostly started by that very AU and I still hold it very dear. I finished writing the first part in 2019 and I should have added a second part starting in 2020 (who actually has the first chapter published) but unfortunately, a pretty big and weird writer-block hit me for that story and I’ve been forced to put it on hiatus for an undefined time...

But I really want to come back to it at some point, and eventually rewrite the first chapters (keeping the story as is it but writing them better and fleshing them more until I reach like, the sixth chapter.) but it’s on hold until now :/

Anyway, here are the five bullet points, and sorry but I’m going to rehash my first fic mostly, though I might add some little bits that aren’t in the fic. But I will keep it spoiler-free from the second part because I still plan to write it one day.

Illidan actually doesn’t become the Betrayer as someone punches him back into senses in Black Rook Hold, just before he kills the other mages by draining their mana and lives and by actually trusting the others to work with him to take down the Legion, instead of just doing it by himself. It allows him to consider creating the Wardens a long, long time after those events, but also, it makes him not going on the road that would lead to the defeat of the Legion. And thus, as Maiev suddenly felt that despair wrapping up once the timeline split from that decision, making it a doomed timeline, she goes to find a solution to put an end to the War. A deal with Sargeras; the DemonSoul in her hands, and the Well exploding; canon resume itself but with Maiev as a demon hunter.

Thinking that she could find help to go and track any demons that could have stayed on Azeroth, well decided to destroy them all, but as she finds her brother who’s already helping both Tyrande and Malfurion to prepare the new age for the Kaldorei, as they can see that she meddled with forces beyond their approvement and outright admitted being responsible for the Sundering, she’s deemed Betrayer and imprisoned until they decide on her fate. Meanwhile, Illidan is adding vials of the water of the Eternity Well inside the new one to create a new source of power, and it’s with luck that Jarod shows up after he’s done and that no one could know that it’s him who did it.

As Maiev can see that no one will help her in her task, she decides to run away and thanks to Illidan not thinking through the situation and being dumb, she succeeds to run away and she well decided to find out the last demons by herself and become more powerful to destroy the Legion. With her escape being Illidan’s fault, he accepts to chase after her, but less because of what she did, and more as she is wielding the DemonSoul who had destroyed the Well and Kalimdor. His objective is to secure the artifact as they believe that without it, Maiev will be harmless. And thus, begin the hunt.

Over ten thousand years, Illidan and Maiev ran into each other multiples times as the woman kept traveling all around Azeroth to find new artifacts that will allow her to absorb the powers and makes her more powerful to attack the Legion one day. The more they met and get to talk with each other, the less they start to hate the others and a few millennia before the opening of the Dark Portal, it’s less than a hunt than two friends meeting up occasionally. Illidan is the first to fall in love, though he doesn’t realize it fully at first, and when Maiev starts to suspect something about her own feelings, she decides to bury them really far away to not have to deal with any attachment. After the Dark Portal opened, they get reunited one last time and fight their way through the Wars.

During the Third War, Illidan finds the skull of Gul’dan and almost uses it on himself as his need for power had never really faded, but he’s interrupted by Maiev who just takes the skull for herself as that artifact could help her. They help taking down the Legion in Hyjal and then, they make their way to the ruins of Dalaran to take down Arthas as they both know that he’s bad news. On their way, Maiev uses the skull on herself as a voice promises her the power they need along with the information on how to take out Arthas. In Dalaran, it’s Illidan who puts a stop to their attack as he feels that the planet will go through a second Sundering if he follows through, and Maiev is disappointed in him. As he decides to help the High Elves and that Maiev knows that the planet would be safe with him protecting it, she gives him back the DemonSoul and leaves Azeroth for good. Meanwhile, in the following days, Illidan finally creates the Wardens, while being decided to find Maiev again.

Last Confessions and Hopeless Loves (G) 2.2k - My favourite take on That Night In Crowley’s flat for its spot-on characterisation and humour. Not just saying that because I also adore @girlwholovesherwords :)

In the (second)  Beginning (M) 2.6k - post-Ritz, much clinging, and the fic that persuaded me I was interested in a non-ace interpretation of the ineffable husbands after all.

Forgotten (But Not Gone) (M) 9.6k - AU, Crowley and Aziraphale have had their memories wiped after the Apocalypse, and this keeps them away from each other for all of 0.005 seconds and it is PRECIOUS.

A Softer Fall (T) 1.6k - Smol!AU in which the wall slam is not interrupted quite so quickly and @themoonmothwrites gives us both kissing and a really spot-on bit of analysis as to why Crowley might have overreacted so strongly to being called nice just then.

Obliviate (M) 4.5k - Aziraphale and Crowley jump each other’s bones then realise they’ve made things way too dangerous and complicated and arrange to wipe their own memories until such time as it’s safe to remember. Sounds angsty, is actually SOFT.

Clandestine Affairs (M) 26.8k - AU, Aziraphale and Crowley don’t meet until their paths cross in the Regency era while Crowley is pretending to be Aziraphale’s new valet. They have absolutely zero chill.

A Sinuous Story (T) 5.4k - AU where Crowley is stuck in snake form for the entire 6000 years and so basically moves in with Aziraphale because no-one cares.

Or the look or the words (T) 5.8k - AU where Aziraphale convinces Heaven somewhere around Mesopotamia that the best way to thwart Crowley is to just stay with him all the time. They get married. A lot. It’s extremely soft.

Like A River Flows (T) 14.9k - Every time Crowley confesses his love to Aziraphale, his memory gets taken by Lucifer’s curse. Until the time it doesn’t.

Dearly Departed (T) 29.7k - Post-canon, Crowley gets inconveniently discorporated and wacky hijinks ensue. Features some great OCs and humour, and an incredibly satisfying climactic scene with Aziraphale doing what he does best.

WIPs

Aziraphael, the last to fall (M) 32.6k - AU, the only demon/angel role-reversal I’m really into. The author has done a fantastic job of exploring alternative points in history rather than rehashing canon, and also with exploring the similarities and differences in their personalities. Something’s Starting Right Now (T) 20.9k - AU, @nicnacsnonsense provides the Little Mermaid fusion that you never knew you needed in your life, with delightful characterisation, a completely smitten Crowley, and mermaid worldbuilding (of which I am always a huge fan). Softe.

Vita Nova (M) 67.5k - AU, after the Apocalypse Crowley wakes up to find that a) they’re both human and b) Aziraphale doesn’t remember that he was ever anything different. Cue panicky snake, accidental dating, and a gradual reveal of how they ended up like this.

The more I think about Frozen 2 the less it makes sense... Granted, I've only watched it once, but like... Were the earth giants the earth spirit? If they were, why did the tribe say the earth giants awake at night, if Elsa just woke them up after 34 years? And how did the earth giants mess with the earth in Arandelle, and if they have the power to just move and break the earth why did they need to throw boulders? Are the trolls connected to earth magic?

I remember reading reviews when the movie first dropped and critics saying it’d be a direct-to-DVD sequel if the animation wasn’t so good and I was like there’s no way it can be that bad. But it was.

The movie introduces so many new things, and doesn’t elaborate much on any of them. It doesn’t make any sense, to me, that all magic is supposedly locked away in this forest, but there are magic rock trolls chilling right outside Arendelle. Why were the nature spirits awoken in this movie, and not, ya know, when Elsa let out that explosion of winter magic in the first movie? Why wouldn’t the trolls mention the Enchanted Forest in the first movie after little Elsa accidentally strikes Anna with her magic? Why would Elsa and Anna’s parents, especially their mother who grew up around magic, be so clueless about how to help Elsa growing up and think isolation was a good idea? Why would Elsa and Anna’s father be the one who knows the trolls can help reverse the effects of Elsa’s magic on little Anna and not their mother who is supposed to have a stronger connection to the magic world according to the second movie? The sequel makes little sense in the context of the first film. Instead of bridging the two, it’s its own thing like a slight AU fanfiction.

And maybe I’d be willing to look past all that if the plot of the sequel was good, but it’s not. The movie starts out decent. “Some Things Never Change” is a little cringe because it’s hitting you over the head with foreshadowing—this movie does A LOT of telling instead of showing, which is yikes, but let’s try to look past that—Elsa’s hearing a mysterious voice in her head; interesting. Kristoff wants to propose; cute. We’re given no indication that Elsa’s unhappy in Arendelle until her song, but whatever. Fast forward to the Enchanted Forest; things really start to fall apart. Pretty exciting entrance of the Wind spirit with the tornado, but it’s resolved quickly. And that’s how all the conflicts are. It takes like 2 minutes for Elsa to overcome each of these elements, excluding Earth which she never (?) does. Water is pretty intense, but it’s over fast, and then..Elsa is really chill befriending the spirit that drowned her parents’ ship?? What? And what is even the point of Elsa overcoming these elements? She doesn’t gain those powers. She doesn’t control the spirits, so what?? Why??

Kristoff is totally separated from the main cast for 80% of the film. He’s not involved in the plot. Why is he even there? The only thing his character wants is to propose to Anna. He keeps proposing at bad times. His solo song is about Anna. What about Arendelle, his home, which is like in danger atm sjdjsjsjsjs?? He felt very flat and 1D. He doesn’t change at all from start to end.

Anna spent this movie chasing Elsa again. She didn’t really do anything important until the very end with the dam. The movie again emphasized Anna’s love for Elsa. We’re pretty much just rehashing the first film, where Elsa felt uncomfortable at home and Anna wanted her sister to come back with her. The point of the first film is that Elsa does learn to accept herself and love herself and find belonging at home with her family so why?? Are we?? Doing this again?? In what world would Elsa be happy living in a big cold glacier by herself after living her entire life in her big cold bedroom??

I’m also gonna be bold here and say I was not impressed with the visuals in Show Yourself. The animation’s pretty, but how they chose to do that sequence lacked that punch, that wow factor. Same goes for Into the Unknown, and I honestly think it’s cause we’re not seeing Elsa’s ice or snow magic. And the magic is happening to her instead of her creating it. Elsa building her ice palace in Let it Go is still unparalleled. What a stunning moment. And her dress transformation in the first movie was much prettier because it was gradual and gave you the time to appreciate the animation in her transformation.

The Northuldra also felt really pointless. Ryder and Honeymaren get like 3 minutes of screen time, don’t affect the plot in any way, and we know next to nothing about them by the end. I don’t even remember the chief lady’s name. Honestly the most interesting character in this movie that genuinely changes and makes me feel anything is Olaf, and that’s...bad.

But even the decent emotional moments are lost because the movie is so rushed. Olaf dying. Elsa and Anna discovering how their parents died on the ship. You blink and it’s over. The plot doesn’t slow down to let you or the characters really feel the impact of these moments, so they’re lost.

Even if I didn’t disagree with most of the storytelling, to tell this story well the crew needed 2 movies instead of trying to cram everything into 1. It was just a mess. I left the theater feeling nothing except confusion. It was a huge disappointment.

I'll go up until weirdmageddon (calling it normageddon for now) cause that should be it's whole entire post, and also some more details will be with the mystery twins, not too much to miss ofc!!

Also Bill will be addressed as Will Cypher only right before he meets the mystery twins. Keeping some stuff from the original au but still with my spin, ya feel?

So Billy! Little guy. Totally not an interdimensional freak yuh huh. Born with his defect (I hc it to be his eye being in the middle) that ostracized him from society. Parents tried to give him help and restrict his vision of beyond the 2D world, but he wanted more. In an attempt of freeing his world from their limited vision, he ended up destroying Euclydia in a massacre. Only thing left was a single speck that he keeps under his hat wink wink

Now when meeting the henchmaniacs, they don't go the full mile and instead do petty theft and trickster stuff. Bill isn't as much of a crazed lunatic like in canon so his actions are more subdued.

Parties are still a big interest for him ofc, just....a little less arson. Now the nightmare realm is still receding in itself, so Bill still has the motive to make the portal cause he hears the prophecy of merging the realms.

He still goes to Earth and Gravity Falls. Prophecy is still considered deadly as yes, merging the realms is still very very deadly. Bill doesn't know this yet (tho even if he did he probably wouldn't care)

The Silas Birchtree stuff still happens, but the cult stuff kinda happens on its own without Bill forcing a cult to be made. It kinda just happens and he's like "aight"

Now this goes up until he's summoned to Gravity Falls by Ford. He can tell the scientist has potential and could make the portal for him, so they make their deal. Bill asking for the portal while Ford asks for power and knowledge in return.

Bill stands by, giving direct orders of what's needed for the portal yadda yadda. But it gets interesting once he notes that McGucket is having second thoughts (Fidds will also have a post cause he's very important in normageddon)

Bill constantly nags Ford, giving (mostly) empty threats to harm him. He gives him dreams of power when the man does manage to get sleep. Bill has a very distant understanding of how humans work here, due to possessing a corpse from his previous work and he himself doesn't really need to fill needs like humans.

Once McGucket is thrown into the portal all bets are off with Ford. Initially Bill appreciates the quick disposal of an interruption, but he reminds Ford the portal needs to be built. Constantly.

Ford is fed up with the nagging, he takes to letting his frustrations out on Bill. Bill doesn't bother giving the dreams anymore to Ford, just bugging the man whenever he's awake. Ford doesn't have a stable sleep schedule anyway after McGucket.

Eventually, Ford asks about possession due to him being a demon. Bill takes him up on the offer, but quickly regrets it as Ford is extremely hungry and sleep deprived. The hell is dizziness to him? Why does it suck so much?

Ford tells him he'd like to research him for the journal. Since Bill doesn't have a physical form, Ford takes to studying him while he's asleep or in the mind scape with Bill in his body.

He tests the limits of Bill with electro shocks, acid, nuclear waste. He blasts loud synthesized music while Bill is in his body and gaslights him for research.

They don't go out partying or for karaoke like the journal states. In this I imagine the journal is filled with scientific jargon on Bill and his limits. Ford is testing what limits a demon has since he isn't human.

Bill can't do anything about it, because Ford asked for knowledge in the deal. Unlike canon, Bill has to stick to deals and unless the deal breaks or Ford dies, he's stuck.

And he really wants this portal to work.

Soon Stan is brought in as the next assistant, and Bill gets a break from all the torture. He retreats to the mindscape to watch from a distance, hoping Ford doesn't get interrupted from work.

Unfortunately, Stanley leaves the project and Ford tries to go solo. When Bill tells him one more time with the threat of taking his eyes, Ford focuses more on torturing him. In the mindscape an altercation came up that ended with Bill's hat crushed, and the speck of his dimension used as leverage.

Needless to say he goes silent.

His color becomes more desaturated the more time goes on, less articulate and chatty. Ford is still working on the portal from the side, so he can't call off the deal. Ford falls in and out of sleep in free time, with Bill trying to possess him and actually get Ford to call off the deal. Even if it'll stall the merge, he could always try far far in the future, when Ford is dead.

Unfortunately it doesn't work, nightmares don't work either, as Ford just pushes back harder and digs up trauma of Euclydia.

Bill can try to get Ford to fall off the water tower all he wants, but when the body he's piloting is operating off of gallons off coffee and loud music it's hard to get a grip on reality.

Soon enough Mrs. Gleeful comes into the picture, and another break is given to Bill. As much as the years that pass by should seem like seconds to him, every second with Ford feels like years.

Bill can only watch from the mindscape as Ford uses the memory gun on Mrs. Gleeful, treating her like some machine that just needs a good reboot.

When Stanley finally confronts Ford, Bill thought he'd finally get a reprieve. Ford would call off the project since he has no materials, and he'd grow bored.

Unfortunately that's very much the opposite. Ford is locked in the bunker and tied to Bill, since he has to fill his end of the deal still. The shapeshifter talks circles around Ford, filling his head with ideas. Ford tortures Bill in his body, sometimes even forgoing pain meds for his eye so Bill can feel the pain.

Bill is forced to still give visions when Ford sleeps, and it only makes him more insane. His ego already growing to new heights as Bill can only watch.

Sometimes he tries to talk to the shapeshifter in the mindscape to get him to kill Ford, but they both know Ford could deal with them in a heartbeat.

When Bill is alone with himself, he thinks of forgoing his identity, changing his name and packing his bags to run off to some far away dimension.

Eventually some kids summon him in 2012. The pines twins.

Art I did of Will. His bowtie is skewed and his hat is still crushed. His cane is more than a prop sometimes. He's also fully blue now. Depressed and irritated with everything.

In the heat of the moment he tells the Mason kid he'll call him Dipper if they call him Will.

The new deal is to get inside of the head of a one Bud Gleeful for the deed to a shack. The same shack Ford had. He knows the twins are probably gonna just take back the shack anyway, but as long as it's not Ford's he doesn't care.

He takes the deal, going through memories and occasionally seeing Mrs. Gleeful. He feels a little bad for the guy, thinking his wife went missing when she's actually in the same town but practically lobotomized.

He almost succeeds, when Gideon and Pacifica steal back the code. The twins call the deal off, and he lets the anger get to him. Years of repressed anger at Ford will do that to ya.

Eventually when it's all over, the twins offer him to make it up to them with a deal. Accompany them to steal back a journal. Hey, if he's away from Ford, he'll take it. Plus they're kids, they probably just need a bodyguard.

They do not need a bodyguard.

I am telling you now, he is NOT a slave like in the original au. That kinda irks me a little, plus the twins are kids so why would they need a slave?

So Will is glorified butler right now. Used as a footrest or something to get drinks. They don't even bother to talk to him like a person.

He had hope in shooting star, seeing as she had a bit more empathy than her brother. But she uses him as a table for arts and crafts or a mannequin for sweaters.

So he's fed up with the pines family. Hell they didn't even tell Stanley! Will has half a mind to torment the guy to free him. He's the one that locked sixer away!

When the events of sock opera arrive, the twins ask him to retrieve the journal from Gideon. In an attempt to get it, he makes a hurried deal for a vessel to let Gideon get the code to a laptop. Seems to be McGucket's by the make of it.

He throws the laptop out of the window, being reminded of Ford after a comment from Gideon about the pines twins.

Luckily Gideon's body is more maintained than Ford, and Will can almost walk down the stairs without tripping!

Gideon pleads with him from the mindscape, saying how much the pines have been a nuisance. They have a talk before going to Pacifica's pageant (I should make a post more in depth about the kids on their own huh 🤷‍♀️)

They come to an agreement about the pines, and he makes a deal with Gideon to help him against them for the future.

He doesn't give the journal to the twins, Mabel and Pacifica fight on stage, Dipper does some backstage tricks. But they make it out okay. Oh also instead of "Bipper" it's Wideon. Widdle Wideon!!! (Very proud of that)

He joins the Gleeful's side after the events of it, sometimes asking Gideon to burn that journal of his.

Anyway!! That's where I'll leave it until the normageddon post. Still gotta get all my refs made and stuff before I can do that. I'm pretty happy with where I have it rn. Leaving Bill a little more in character than just a sad boy who's enslaved.

...So yes!!! I am working on a teensy weensy little rehashing of the Reverse Falls au. I'm sure as we all know, the original is a bit....outdated so to say. What with suspicious art and some questionable decisions here and there.

I'm not saying mine is better! No way no how, I'm absolutely sure there's a bunch of people out there with something better. This is just a little thing I'm working on with a friend of mine ( @danklemckspankle ) and how we would imagine a reverse falls au. Rather than it being low-key swapping personalities, it swaps roles as it should. And I'd like to think the premise is exciting as well! It makes me very very happy to talk about it as it's been plaguing my mind for a week or two. Tbh ever since book of bill came out....

So!! Lemme talk about it a little!!! I hope you're ready for a little mystery wink wink

Ahem. So! Our little story starts in a little shack called "The Shack of Telepathy"!! (So original yeah I know)

Bud Gleeful is the shack owner, living as a single father with his son Gideon Gleeful. Bud makes money by being a tourist trap, grabbing people in under the premise of reading their minds! (Gravity falls people are just easy to read but shhh don't tell Toby)

Gideon is a little 9 year old with a heart of gold and full of promise. It's a new summer in Gravity Falls and he has big plans! He wants to have the best adventure he can, and hopefully get a new badge on his vest!!

Yes, this little guy wants to be a boy scout!! Unfortunately, there is no chapter in Gravity Falls, so he's gonna have to make one himself!

With his dad's pin machine, he makes badges whenever he does something good or a big accomplishment! (His pride and joy badge is the one he made with his dad on Father's Day :] )

He really wants to have a good summer. He hopes, by golly, he hopes.

Now a neighborhood down, is town darling Pacifica Northwest. Her family isn't as rich in this as canon, so her family sits as upper middle class at most. Modern suburbia yk? Her family wants to set an example for the people of Gravity Falls, taming the weirdness out or whatever they say.

Pacifica just wants a summer where she can have a little relief. Away from the eye of her parents and the public. Just one day where she can be herself!

So she goes walking in town while her parents are busy planning their big weekly barbeque or whatever. She comes across this kid named Gideon. He compliments her sense of style and makes an offhanded comment about making a badge or something.

Now Pacifica, despite however much her parents influence her, starts her own trends and styles. (With the permission of her parents) So when this kid compliments her she goes on a (grateful) rant and they hit it off!

Gideon tells her about his dad's shack, and all the business business business Bud does. Pacifica talks about her parents planning events every week and, begrudgingly, church. They scurry off into the woods to just explore, and be kids!

On their way as Gideon is messing around with nature, they come across this metal tree. Weird, huh. They do some digging around and press buttons, when a crater opens in the ground!! Pacifica goes to check it out, pushing Gideon back in case of danger.

What they see is a journal! Very dusty and cobwebbed, but a journal with the number 3 painted on it. They pick it up and peruse through it. Pacifica is skeptical at first, wondering if it's part of any tourist trap Gideon's dad planned. When Gid says no, they realize the journal mayyyy have some merit. With how weird Gravity Falls is all the time and the little things that happen here and there, the author of this journal could be telling the truth.

So when they go back to the shack, the talk about the journal and what it could mean.

Now I haven't planned too far ahead to make a full writing of each episode, barely even the pilot, but! This is the gist of it in my head.

As you know, yes I mentioned Ford was evil! And I'm keeping a little of the previous reverse falls lore for this (surrounding the pines. Other things will be different!)

Maybe I'll make a post talking about the pines, but y'know. I just wanna talk about the general feeling I have for it in my head.
