“Illidan…” she started, then stopped herself. For a long moment, the world around them shrank to nothing and vanished. Maiev didn’t move. A bead of sweat slid down his spine. Distantly, as if it were echoing from across the galaxy, they heard the sounds of combat coming up the stairs. At last Maiev let out her breath. “They need you, Illidan. You should hurry.” Illidan’s throbbing heart sank into his stomach. He turned back to the stairs, wings folded against his back to keep them from quivering. Maiev spoke again.  “Don’t you dare get hurt, Illidan,” she growled. “But if you do–don’t you dare get killed–” she paused to clear her throat, and when she continued, her voice was soft and low “–I will be waiting to heal you.”  His chest swelled as his heart rose up into his throat. It wasn’t forgiveness, but it was a first step. He looked back over his shoulder and met the green stare of her helmet with his own. She didn’t waver or look away. He felt a smile lift the corners of his lips, and all he could do was nod.

Gee, FOR SOME REASON, I have been very stressed out for the last few weeks. But I finally got chapter 19 of my Illidan x Maiev fanfic posted. :P

“I…” He turned his face away, knowing full well how futile it was to avoid Xe’ra’s scrutiny. “For most of my life, I have loved one person. The thought of Tyrande was the one tiny scrap of hope I had to cling to during my eons below Hyjal.” He thought of that night a mere four days prior–had it truly been so short a time?–when he’d waited on that hill outside Black Rook Hold, hoping to see Tyrande once more. His heart throbbed painfully again–causing his throat to clench–and he had to pause to let it pass. “Even now, after everything I’ve been through, it is a hard habit to break.”  Xe’ra didn’t immediately reply, and Illidan was beginning to dread her silences. “I know she is important to you,” she said. “I heard you call to her with your last breath. Just as I know you told Maiev she was nothing, with your second-to-last.”
