#regulus plays cello in a rock band

CELLO PLAYER!REGULUS IN A ROCK BAND! AHHH

just saw this band with a cello player and it sounded so f good! and REGULUS OMG REGULUS PLAYING CELLO IN A SECRET ROCK BAND TO FOLLOW HIS OLDER BROTHER'S STEPS AND IN A WAY FEELING SIRIUS NOT SO DISTANT IF HE TRIES TO UNDERSTAND BUT HE DOESNT KNOW ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT +piano (even tho a cello player can easily understand how to play the bass, at least my friend did lol) SO HE JUST GO WITH HIS CELLO AND AHHHHHH NOW I NEED A FIC WHERE SIRIUS AFTER YEARS OF NOT SEEING REGGIE SEES HIM ON THE STAGE PLAYING A ROCK SONG WITH HIS F CELLO!!! AHHHHH

The Marauders if they were an American Muggle Rock Band in the early 2000s

Remus is the drummer, Sirius plays bass and also is the front man, James plays guitar and so does Peter

Remus and James write most of the songs, but Sirius helps with the lyrics as well and so does Peter, on occasion

They met in a boarding school for the arts when they were fourteen

Remus and James were friends before this, since they lived in the same town before they got in and they met Peter and Sirius at the new school

James and Sirius were roommates and Remus and Peter were roommates

Remus was attending the school for music, since he played concert percussion in addition to drum set, Sirius was there for art, and James and Peter were both there for theatre

Remus and James had gone to school together when they were younger, so Remus knew that James knew how to play a guitar and found out that Peter could play when he came back to their room to find him just chilling out and playing the guitar

The three of them joked around and said that they could start a band if only they had a bass player

Sirius, as it turned out, was a bass player

Their parents had both they and their brother in private strings lessons since they were little and Regulus played the Cello but Sirius choose to play the upright Bass, which had the same fingerings as the bass guitar but just wasn’t upright

So they started a band

It wasn’t until their junior year of high school that they finally got serious and started rehearsing, before then it had been learning fun classic rock covers and impromptu jam sessions

They decided to name it their band The Marauders, since they joking adopted the moniker after their English teacher, Professor McGonagall, called them that in one of their many detentions (she hadn’t meant for them to adopt it and cause even more mischief, but that’s exactly what happened)

By the end of their junior year, they’d written more than enough songs for an album, played covers (and some originals) at every club in the area and the spring formal for their school

They spend the summer with Peter’s family playing in clubs in Minneapolis

One night, at a really shitty two am slot at a club in downtown, a label rep heard them

He wasn’t out looking for a band or anything, just enjoying his time in the club

He doesn’t promise them anything but he does ask them to send his label a demo

They do but nothing comes of it

Not that that’s stopping them

By the time the Marauders graduate from school, they’ve put a down payment on an apartment in a town right outside Los Angeles

Granted it had one bedroom and wasn’t in a great part of town and it cost so much that they could barely swing it

But they were going to California to make music full time

Well, mostly full time since they all had part time jobs to pay the rent and such

But full time adjacent

They self produce their first album by Christmas that year and call it Mischief Managed and it does alright, well enough that they can afford to go on a small tour anyway, which, whoa

The concept was mind boggling because, oh my god, people wanted to book them??? And buy tickets???

Granted, it was a small, fairly local, tour, but it was a tour nonetheless

They wouldn’t go on the tour until the summer, so they’d spend the next six or so months writing music and working and just existing and it’s their dream come true, honestly.

I’m definitely writing more of this verse, by the way. I am currently working on a short fic for it (which inspired this verse and which you can find here) and I’ll probably write one about their tour and maybe one about their time in school (specifically Remus and Sirius getting together).
