I was bored so I came into a tutoring center where my sister was working to pass the time. Not there to practice calculus, I was just planning on looking at famous artworks to imitate and draw myself in for my upcoming figure drawing final. I simply told the students there “I won’t bother you. I’m just here to look at pictures of pretty ladies on the computer.” Half a second later everybody laughed at that.

okay SO i don't have very much of it and it's now kind of on the backburner because of the pain of s7. the idea was Chris is at a friend's pool party and some Tsunami Feelings come up. But I haven't actually gotten there in the writing yet, literally it's all just set up😅 but specifically, they're all having a good time and then Buck gets shoved into the pool, but bumps his head on the pool ladder. It's not enough to knock him out but the combo of hearing Chris yelling out for him + being in the water in streetclothes suddenly + head bleeding leads to him flashing back to the tsunami when he was desperately looking for Chris. He's physically fine and emotionally better once he can hug Chris and see he's all right, but there's lots to process still!

HELP EVACUATE PALESTINIANS FROM GAZA!

Ahed and Samah are two women whose lives have been torn apart because of the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Ahed ( @ahedalshaer ) is in university for dentistry, and Samah is supposed to be in her final year of high school.

Their campaign began in May, but has raised only around one twenty-fifth of their goal - €3,314 of €80,000. This is extremely worrying, as their father is diabetic, and their mother suffers from a chest infection. Both require urgent medical attention, which they are currently unable to receive due to the poor conditions in Gaza.

Their fundraiser is verified as #407 on the Butterfly Effect Project.[link]

By August 20th, it is our aim to boost their campaign to 10,000 euros. That is still only one eighth of the 80,000 euros they require, but it is a start.

Pre-Raphaelite models as artists in their own right

Elizabeth Siddal and Jane Morris are mostly known as artists' models for the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, representing the ideal of feminine beauty for the movement.

Elizabeth Siddal famously modelled for John Everett Millais's Ophelia (1852)

Jane Morris in paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti: Proserpine (1874) + The Daydream (1880)

But both women were also artists themselves.

In the paintings and drawings she modelled for, Siddal is never depicted as looking directly at the viewer. Instead, she is languid and lovely, gazing off dreamily into the distance or closing her eyes, like in the examples below.

Her self-portrait, however, presents a fascinating contrast.

Her expression is stony and her gaze is direct. She knows you're looking, and she's looking right back. It reminds me of the Agnès Varda quote,

“The first feminist gesture is to say: OK, they're looking at me. But I'm looking at them.”

Jane Morris

Jane Morris was not a painter herself, but an embroiderer, bookbinder, and calligrapher.

She came from a working-class background and only received an artistic education as an adult, after she married William Morris.

Unfortunately, not much of her work survives, or can be definitively attributed to her, but the two floral patterns below reveal her skill with the needle.

"You're that firefighter who saved those people from that stuck roller-coaster!" He announces proudly, satisfied with his ability to piece together the past. The rest of the table choruses in agreement. "I knew I recognized you, man. Damn, Evan, that stuff made national news."

The light in Evan's eyes dull and Eddie finds himself staring as Evan does everything in his power to keep the rest of the 126 from noticing. " I uh, yeah. That was me."

Mateo jumps in, shaking his head in protest. "No, no, that can't be it. I saw this news article about this firefighter who got his leg crushed by a ladder truck, and I'm positive it's him."

Evan purses his lips sheepishly. "That was me, too."

Eddie snorts. "What, next you gonna tell us you lived through a hurricane, too?"

"It was actually a tsunami."

Nancy gapes. "How are you alive?"

"The tsunami was less scary than the comas, honestly," Buck begins frantically in an attempt to downplay it.

"Comas?" Mateo asks. "As in multiple?"

"You could give TK here a run for his money," Marjan points out.

TK laughs, pointing a fork at himself. "Overdose, gunshot, and hypothermia."

"Breadstick, gunshot, and lightning strike."

"That was you!?"
