Hear me out. Post-story Regina Comet where Man 2 realizes he has feelings for Other Man and as he begins to discover himself and pursue this love he learns is true,, but unfortunately as Other Man begins to realize his peer is finally beginning to reciprocate his affections he begins to pull away. He begins to grow annoyed with him, not want to be around him anymore because when Man 2 puts his hand on Other’s it reminds him of how 2 used to talk of Regina. Truthfully, he wants this. He wants this so bad, he has yearned for 2’s love for years now but he can’t accept this, he doesn’t want to settle because he feels like 2 is settling. Settling for him. He doesn’t want to be his friend’s rebound crush, he doesn’t want his best friend, his childhood friend to only love him because he’s run out of options. He doesn’t want to have his heart opened by this man just to be cast aside when he gets bored, when he gets tired because stars know this emotionally immature man could not hold a relationship with this emotionally unstable man and if they were to break up who’s to say if they’d be friends anymore, if they’d write anymore… he was always Other’s muse, he didn’t want to break that now for a flutter of the heart. Better to be distant friends than not friends at all, he would suppose?

Like many musical theater fans, I am fully obsessed with that Lie Detector Interview for the leads of "Merrily" and now I'm so salty we never got one for "Regina Comet" because you know full well Ben would have gone Full Jonathan and it would be up to Alex and Bryonha to keep him in check.
