The Troggs tenían la fuerza básica y bruta y una extraordinaria faceta suave y delicada, demostrada sobradamente en un buen número de canciones que son pura maña. "Cousin Jane" es una de ellas, paradoja de minimalismo pop barroco fino e intrigante, suavemente turbio y decadente. Ligeramente siniestro.

"With a Girl Like You" was written by the Troggs' lead vocalist Reg Presley whilst he was a bricklayer. He took inspiration from the vocals in "Barbara Ann", which became a hit for the Beach Boys in early 1966. "With a Girl Like You" was recorded at Olympic Studios at the same time as their previous single "Wild Thing". Both songs were recorded in two takes because they only had a short amount of recording time.

Carlos (who I played “the history of rock’n’roll” with live), Coldplay’s 2008 VIDA LA VIDA OR DEATH album, Chick Corea, the sublime crooner Vic Damone, Brad Delp, Pete Farndon (Pretenders), Charlie Feathers, Anne Frank, Uta Hagen, Bill Haley & The Comets 1954 single “Rock Around the Clock,” Roy Harper, “Helsinki Day,” John Lennon’s 1972 SOMETIME IN NYC LP, Christie Martin, Reg Presley (Troggs), Robyn, Amadeo Roldán, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Richard Sherman, the 1909 single “Shine on Harvest Moon” by Ada Jones & Billy Murray, Eomann Walker, and one of my heroes, the late, great bassist and singer-songwriter extraordinaire John Wetton. Seeing him live with King Crimson in 1974 changed the way I play bass and improvise. He was a powerhouse on his axe, but also a great vocalist and songwriter. Nearly every band he joined was fantastic and popular in some way: Asia, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep + many sessions (Malcolm & Alwyn, Phil Manzanera) and an excellent string of solo albums.
