truly i feel like if warriors was good we would've seen both brambleclaw AND squirrelflight struggle with parenthood in the power of three. theyre very much treated like general background characters in that arc which is fine but the entire arc is not just about the prophecy but about hollyleaf, lionblaze, and jayfeather's relationship with them as their parents. it sets it up FOR the gutpunch that is them not being their bio parents.

its like.................squirrelflight is pretty young, and she took in leafpools children pretty suddenly. at that time leafpools wish didnt exist so we didnt know abt the starclan lying to her thing, but regardless of that i think it wouldve been normal and natural to see squirrelflight struggling with motherhood. its not that she didnt want to be a mom and not that shes not thankful to have the kids in her life, but it very much was a sudden "oh wow, im responsible for three lives now, and not even just in the like normal mom way, but in the way where i have to protect and guard them while also keeping leafpools secret, hoping they dont look anything like crowfeather, making sure that no one can see any windclan traits in them, while also dealing with my romantic life being kind of uncomfortable", and shes genuinely pretty stressed for most of the kids kithood/apprenticehood. they think it stems from her unability to nurse and in part it KIND of does but its soo much more than that

and man, brambleclaw was suuuuchhhhh a wasted opportunity too. hes pretty much treated like a basic "yeahh he was a good dad" kind of thing, but i feel like brambleclaw was the one who struggled the most with parenthood. and its not that he never wanted kids and doesnt care for them, but i think that his own childhood and relationship with his father would play a massive part in his fear of bringing up kits in the clans. hawkfrost literally just died and hes reeling with that, with knowing his half-brother tried to kill him and firestar, but i feel like although he tries to mean well, he very much would squander and become anxious when he sees lionblaze or hollyleaf showing too much ambition. its not that he doesnt want them to succeed, but he knows how someone with his bloodline looks to the rest of thunderclan when they show too much interest in becoming leader or moving up in the clans, so sometimes he comes off as dismissive towards their goals and the kids never know Why but they just know that he does.
