I first realized that the best ghost stories are love stories after watching The Haunting of Bly Manor, and though I've experienced a lot of media since that reaffirmed that understanding, The Narrow by Kate Alice Marshall really feels like it's closing the loop. It rhymes with Bly in a way that feels like I've come to the end of some great journey, and am now prepared to start another. Like Bly, The Narrow is a story about abuse. It's a story about possession, in more than one sense. And it's a story that asserts that true love, the love that's worth keeping, is the love that knows how to let go.
Our story follows Eden, a senior at a prestigious private boarding high school rich with history and legends, especially around its deadly river, The Narrow, which is unapologetically based on the Bolton Strid. Eden is excited to return to school and escape a summer vacation marred by a profound abuse that she is refusing to think about. However, upon arrival she discovers that her parents have neglected to pay her tuition - coincidentally, they've had to pay a lot of legal fees recently - and she is forced to take on a unique arrangement to remain enrolled. She must act as the live-in companion of fellow student Delphine, a reclusive girl who cannot leave her carefully refurbished dorm room, as any contact with water sends her into seizures. Eden knows something about Delphine that almost no one else does, however - at the beginning of her first year, Eden saw Delphine fall into The Narrow and be swept away - and what The Narrow takes is never returned.
The mystery at the heart of the story is, ultimately, not that complicated, but it is beautiful in its simplicity and the way it plays with the reader's expectations. Those expectations are shaped heavily by Eden's point of view, and Eden is a triumph of an unreliable narrator. She actively avoids thinking about things that weigh on her and occasionally skates over her own actions where they clash with her self-image, but these more obvious and dramatic omissions draw attention away from the subtler ways that her biases and coping mechanisms shape her understanding of the world around her, and it took me until about the three-quarters mark to know where and how to disbelieve her perceptions. She is incredibly compelling, deeply empathetic, and absolutely drowning in self-worth issues. The supporting cast is equally compelling, and the author injects a surprising sense of depth into each member of her friend group in remarkably few lines. Each give the impression of being flawed, well-rounded, but fundamentally decent people, and they all feel very distinct from one another. I was going to highlight one of them as a favorite example, but I genuinely can't pick between them. The adults too are well-rounded and compelling, which I feel is often a shortcoming of horror in an academic setting (is that what dark academia is? no one will tell me). And of course Delphine herself is quite compelling; a little odd, very intense, and eminently sympathetic, her dynamic with Eden is fresh, engaging, and believable.
One thing I really want to highlight about this story is its willingness to engage with real-life messiness that is often elided in ghost stories and love stories. The mechanics of the supernatural are not well understood in this story, and no tomes of ancient lore exist to guide the protagonists. Their methods of interfacing with the supernatural are cobbled together from their own intuition and their vague impressions of the occult from pop culture and religious mysticism, and their efficacy is neither reliable nor consistent. Similarly, the story is not afraid of engaging with the fragility and volatility of young love, the way it can feel all-consuming and eternal in one moment and fizzle out the next. This sort of messiness always appeals to me in fiction, and it is remarkably rare outside of deliberate genre subversions, so I was absolutely thrilled with it here.
I would recommend The Narrow without hesitation to anyone who likes ghost stories. I would also recommend it for its exploration of abuse in a variety of forms, and for its depiction of the aftermath of said abuse. Take that same recommendation as a content warning, though, and I'll toss in a more specific one for involuntary drug use.

Oops I got that OC brainrot!
Since I'm back into FNAF here's my Security Breach oc, Marbles!
He's a refurbished animatronic that Fazbear Co slapped a new coat of paint on after buying him from another company that was "infringing on their copyright"
He works with DJ Music Man and is meant to reach the areas DJ can't. His AI still needs some catching up to do but he's really friendly and willing to learn what he can
Bonus Y/N inserts!
You were DJs handler beforehand so Fazbear Co decided to just up your paycheck and have you also be Marbles' handler. You were also the test run for how well Marbles can interact with people in the Plex, specifically teach them how to roller skate.
You aren't great at it and he teases you for it, but is always willing to slow down for you and let you connect to his systems to play your favorite music.
He is very friendly and close to you, always drifting over to you whenever he has the chance, but surely that's just because you're his first friend in the Plex. Nothing beyond that, right?

Flipped
NEIGHBORHOOD: Oldtown
Welcome to Flipped, Wicked’s Rest’s quintessential New England style breakfast diner that serves breakfast all day. While the name aptly describes the handling of their famous pancakes, it also describes some of the “creative physics” that take place in the area. Don’t worry about it. The diner is actually a refurbished train, forever stopped on the end of some non-functional tracks, which lends itself to a unique atmosphere. Though Flipped is known for their pancakes and waffles, their menu is a bit more extensive and they can offer eggs, sausages, bacon, hash browns, fresh fruit, soups, and salads. All of the servers will, of course, recommend the pancakes, though. They are that good.
MORE INFO:
Utensils and even pancakes often get stuck to the ceiling without warning, just floating up from the tables as if gravity reversed. They’re hard to get down and some pancakes are still clinging up there in hard to reach spaces. So keep yours nicely secured to your plate, so it doesn’t end up on the ceiling along with Flappy, a pancake made in 2018.
While the diner owners insist that the train hasn’t been functional in decades and will never chug again, those eating in the diner sometimes swear they’re moving, and may even hear the whistle of the train.
The inside of the diner is really cramped (they prefer “cozy”) because it’s a train. However, they also have some outdoor seating for those busy weekend mornings. The servers zoom around from table to table on roller skates.
In the winter they serve up complementary hot cocoa. However, their seating becomes really limited as they put the outdoor tables away. The marshmallows sometimes fly out of the mugs by themselves, so keep your hands secured over it. That’ll warm you up anyway.
Anyone who can eat 20 pancakes in one sitting gets a spot on the “Wall of Shame” and is immortalized as a part of the diner’s history. Weirdly, a number of the older photos are just photos of a blank wall, as if the person in question vanished from the photograph as the years went by.
One of the servers reported seeing blood dripping down the walls a while back. Not sure what that’s about. She claims it appeared in the Wall of Shame photos, too.
Upon leaving, some customers find that they’ve been changed in a way it takes a while to put their finger on. But when they look in the mirror, they’ll find their beauty mark on the other side of their face, or they may notice their wedding ring somehow switched hands.

Modern au headcannons for upcoming stories
These head cannons are for my modern au that is set in the early 90's and extends through to present day. Ocs will come later for right now Isa and Dolores are only smol
Pepa owns a small business where she makes custom jewelry with crystals she tumbles herself. She also makes photo frames and nerdy home decor to sell.
Julieta runs a catering business out of the home. She has plenty of room and is excellent at time management. Her clients always leave astonishingly large tips for her because the quality of her work is so high.
Agustin is a carpenter, he works from 6am to 8 pm on weekdays and has weekends off unless there is an important deadline. He usually brings home the biggest weekly pay unless it's the holidays, then Pepa brings in big bucks for her commissions.
Felix works with his brothers at their pool and outdoor refurbishment company, depending on the day he could install a pool, mow lawns, pressure wash sidewalks, etc. He goes in at 7am after dropping the kids at school and is often home either by or before 6 the next evening. Rare occasions have him working later especially if complications arise with a pool
Isa and Dolores are extremely crafty and responsible. There's always some type of craft or project in progress between them. In their spare time they like to do all sorts of things as far as sports or creativity goes.
Luisa is often roped into the eldest two's shenanigans and she loves it because sometimes she feels left out because she's two years younger than them.
Mirabel and Camilo love to run and play while Pepa and Julieta keep watch. When they're playing their favorite game to play is pretend, Camilo has such a big imagination and Mirabel feeds off of him. They can come up with some wild stories
Dolores and mariano are high school sweethearts
Casita keeps magically growing and each kid has a subdued gift (ex Pepa only controls the weather of the room she's in or has a small cloud above her head only, Isabela can only make flowers bloom or form flowers in her hands)
Bruno is a truck driver and is seldom home, he comes home only for holidays or if he's in the area.
The house is on a half acre property and is completely fenced in.
All kids have bicycles and roller skates. The five of them like to take the evening and go around the block. The eldest can go by themselves to most places in town. Luisa is usually accompanied but can go on her own if she pleases, Mir and Milo must be accompanied if they leave the property.
There is a large backyard swing set and play house for the children to play on.
The eldest girls have flip phones. Though they hardly ever use them unless it's an emergency. They all love playing games on the family Nintendo (GameCube, then Wii after Christmas 2003)
To prevent arguments each family member has their own Gamecube and Wii remote to use.
Hope you enjoy ❤️

A thing I need to draw eventually but
Anthea, in all her canons, at one point had :
-A decent pick up truck -A refurbished motorcycle
Both of which she sold off, to afford the tech and materials for her prosthetics. After that, she mostly walked or rollerbladed everywhere she needed to go, which wasn't by any means easy, especially in untimely weather , but it had taken a lot of money to afford what she could, to walk again.
She still skates, and enjoys it pleasantly, though now with the Autobots, she sometimes does take the rare offered ride back home or to base if the weather isn't exactly the best.

The strange traits of 2012 Casey Jones
He draws like Peter Laird
(Casey's notebook from the show on the left, Peter Laird on the right)
He prefers subbed anime and hates dubbed anime (Plan 10)
Made retractable skates for his sneakers, still can't pass trigonometry
Is one of few characters seen driving (does he have a license?)
Can't pass trig, but can make a taser out of a potato masher and a glove
He's left handed
Can refurbish an entire car, yet, he still can't pass trigonometry
Was canonically born in 1995, making him 17 at the start of the series
Hokey stick says Eastman and Laird, and only logical reasoning I have for that is that it's the name of his school and he's stealing equipment
His handwriting is perfect cursive, and he can't pass trig
His fighting style seems to be to build momentum by skating circles around his opponent, rather than being a tank, like most Caseys
He constantly carries around spray paint, and his clothes are covered in spray paint, but he's never seen doing graffiti
he does however tag opponents with spray paint, which is odd, considering it does very little
He also admires graffiti (the invasion)
Apparently, it looked to Raph like he was gonna kill a man the first time they met
Meaning it's implied that he would have/has killed or maimed
His reaction to a bunch of mutant turtles unmasking him was to hiss at them, like an animal
Still can't pass trigonometry
#he acts like a cryptid#like a creature#i love this guy fr fr#idk about other high schools#but at mine trig was an elective#not a core course#so... why did he take the class???#maybe he's just a hands on learner#this is likely an incomplete list#but it's what i can remember off the top of my head#also...#my sister noticed that in some scenes his teeth aren't missing#but rather filled in black to give the illusion that they are gone#(just an animation shortcut)#so she made the HC that he accidently spray painted his teeth black and couldn't get it off#it doen't hold up#but it's pretty funny#tmnt 12#teenage mutant ninja turtles#tmnt 2k12#tmnt casey jones#tmnt 2012 casey jones

"The site of one of the most fabled 'incidents' in Stanley Cup play has nothing to mark its passing, and perhaps no one is alive who witnessed what really happened on that cold winter's night in the early 1904 when the Toronoto Marlboroughs, champions of the Ontario Hockey Association, came to Ottawa to challenge the Silver Seven for the Stanley Cup.
The Cattle Castle is in decay. It sits— windows broken, paint flaking—, between the football field and the canal, a curious, slightly Moorish barn of a building that some people remember was once known as the Manufacturer's Building, but few recall as the glorious Lady Aberdeen Pavilion. State of the art in the 1890s, it is a sorry state in the 1990s, with debate raging between those who would spend nearly $10 million to refurbish it and those who would pay a wrecker to knock it down. At the end of the twentieth century it is used only by pigeons who nest along the rafters. Yet, when the century opened, these same rafters shook with the roars of a city so taken with hockey and skating it was said to have affected the very manner in which people in Ottawa walked."
Ottawa and the Stanley Cup by Roy MacGregor

Rottmnt oc head-cannons part two
continuing on with my rottmnt oc headcannons
I have already done Marcy’s right here, https://www.tumblr.com/little-mouse-gardens/734298414127382528/rottmnt-oc-head-cannons-so-im-gonna-be-doing-hcs and the other parr right here https://www.tumblr.com/little-mouse-gardens/734344664762777600/some-more-random-hcs-that-popped-up-in-my-head
And now I have finished Sunny’s!

- her mother let her grandparents pick the middle names of her and her sisters. Her grandparents chose her middle name to be rose because the first flowers she ever was close to were roses.
- has a matching skateboard and roller skate set (everyone in her family learned to roller skate at some point in their lives)
- used to be pretty good at basketball but she hated how aggressively competitive she got so she quit and just does it as a hobby
- hates going to bowling alleys because the noise in there gives her headache (she and Marcy just chill outside or go hang out by the arcade)
- Very good at nail art. Has a little shelf and kit in her room where she can do her nails or other peoples nails.
- loves up-cycling. Literally half the stuff she has in her room is stuff she’s refurbished and made into something new.
- Loves pottery, painting it and collecting molds to make different pieces. The basement area of her and her sisters home has a space where she keeps all the molds for pottery she randomly comes across and the kiln her grandfather gave her for Christmas
- prefers to keep her hair in braids because it’s just a little easier on her (hates when her hair gets tangled because her scalp is a tiny bit sensitive and it’s super painful for her) but she does like to style her hair differently every month or so.
- Collects and makes headbands, bandannas and clips to match with her outfits
- Favorite song is riptide by Vance joy (her and Skye love to swim so they always listen to this on trips to the beach or their grandparents farm)
- Struggles a lot with having mutant abilities and keeping them under-control in public spaces (inhuman strength makes her super terrified she’s gonna hurt someone) wears a necklace her mother asked senor hueso to buy for the girls to help out a bit in public so she doesn’t accidentally hurt someone
- Cares deeply about her sisters. Like would lay down her life for them and kill anyone who makes them cry (she’s a rationally sweet person up until a point) Knows all their tells and how they think. They may drive her crazy some days but she’ll always go to them when they need her the most.
- doesn’t have many memory’s about their dad (passed away when they were real young) but visits his grave every so often to drop off flowers (sometimes raph will go with her at night to comfort her)
- trying to improve her gardening skills, has a little set up in the kitchen and in her bedroom. Focuses on vegetables and flowers but has a herb garden safely tucked on the fire escape.
- Has a pet cat who she babies and a pet duck who lives on her grandparents farm. Likes to make little sweaters and bow ties for them both.
- When she gets older she gets a bunch of floral and wildflower tattoos. Mostly on her arms and ribs (she also got her and Raphs wedding rings tattooed)
- self care days and weekends are a must (her and raph include them as dates and couples activities when they started dating)
- Has scars on her ribs from getting captured by the kraang (covers them with tattoos for her eighteenth birthday)
- she and raph, after a build up, started dating halfway through the start of season two (he confessed to her while they were over at the lair) their first date was a rooftop picnic to watch a drive in movie. He got her some earrings as a gift and she sewed him a new bandana (she also stole a teddy bear from a stand for him but shhhhh-nobody knows about that)
- Hates when her stuff is messed with like-if she finds all her stuff messed around with, broken or missing there’s gonna be a problem
- Trying to learn to sew from her sister Marcy, knows how to knit but can’t embroider for the life of her
- buys a lot of cottagecore themed clothing
- Her room = cottagecore dream
- has a particular facial expression her siblings, raph (and eventually her and Raphs kids when they are older) call the stare down which is a signal that she’s not putting up with BS in the moment
- actually loves to read, her and Marcy visit the library twice a month for new books to read, favorite book is
- Collects a lot of cutesy or asthetic stationary to keep at her desk. Leaves frog sticky notes for raph to remind him to take a breather every now and then or notes to remind her sisters of something.
- Loves visiting her grandparents farm. Favorite place to hang out is the flower garden by the lake.
- Favorite fruit is Mangos or honeydew, used to eat it as a snack when she was little and she kind of just has a taste for it ever since
- Her and Raph love to knit, they have made each other hand made gifts like blankets and plushies all the time. (bought him knitting materials for Christmas because she saw he loved it so much)
- has a small collection of plushies she keeps in a hammock above her bed. Her favorite is a donut whale plushie she nicknamed jellybean (because she sprayed jellybean scented cologne on it to help her sleep)
- cuddling/physical affection and words of affection are her love language. So her and Raph can often be seen cuddling, holding hands or just laying across each other (sprawled out across his shell, despite the fact he is terrified he’s gonna hurt her like-BABE THE SPIKES-she doesn’t care, she loves every part of him spikes and all)
- face nuzzles? FACE NUZZLES. They do it all the time (donnie Claims it makes him wanna puke even though he literally does the same thing to marcy-HYPOCRITE)
- She tries her best to keep stress and pressure off of him, even if she’s stressed herself. Like distracting him for just a few moments by squeezing his hand or reminding to him to grab himself something to eat or drink. Comforts him through his panic attacks (just lets him hold onto her for support, and he does the same for her ect.)
- Basking with raph in the sun? Yes please. If she’s over at the lair, they just grab a couple blankets, pick the sunniest spot and just lay there basking in the sun for hours (the sweet boi literally just uses his shadow to shield her if she gets to hot) cuddled up together, playing video games, reading ect.
- definitely has MAJOR trauma from the kraang incident (seeing her future self, her sisters future selves, the future turtles die, nearly suffocating to death, raph getting turned into that kraang thing, her sisters almost drowning-) Carry’s a few scars across her back that she covers with tattoos later on. Her and raph just help each-other through nightmares, ect. Spontaneous group sleepovers because everyone’s having a bad night? Blankets and snacks acquired, favorite movies put on in the projection room in the lair or the living room over at the girls house and it’s a night of literally just everyone sticking to one spot.

#rottmnt oc#oc : sunny#rottmnt raph#rise raphael#rottmnt ocs#rottmnt headcanons#oc x canon#rottmnt#next up should be Skye and Angie

when I wake up the world is icy white, refurbished in glitter, cold as hell, but my dad is gone for the day and my car is already clear of snow.
if you wanna love me, let’s talk lakes.
let’s talk zero degrees. if you wanna love me let’s talk summer heat, summer storms, summer fires. I’m really into the moment where you come around that corner and see the water for the first time. Let’s talk about that.
if you wanna love me, I want to see you on the slopes, nimble as one of your beloved chipmunks. I want you to belong where I belong. I want you to smell like sunscreen and citrus-scented deet. I want to see you in a toque, skating better than you can walk. love me, I say. know me, know me, know me.

First things first, you are incorrect about there only being one year round roller skating rink in Philly.
I don't know who told you that, maybe you accidentally read something from when things were closed for the pandemic and most facilities were closed? But there are multiple facilities operating right now.
Here's the big classic indoor ones:
Rolling Thunder Skating Center is by far the largest in the city. It's full service indoor roller skating rinks and it's in Northeast Philly
Philly Play Pact operates an indoor roller skating/blading rink year round though its focus is more toward children and their parents, but anyone can skate most of the operating hours. It's in South Philly.
Philly SkatePlex, is part of a multi-activity recreation center with one of those complicated indoor playgrounds, a large arcade, and of course roller skating rinks. This is also Northeast Philly.
and then there are many more places that may just be called "roller hockey rink" or only be identified as part of a skate park now, but you can still roller skate there. and frankly there's quite a few year round ice rinks on top of that. you also have the major outdoor roller rinks switching over to ice skating rinks for colder months usually, like the big waterfront one. lots of people prefer the way some of those big ones switch it up between ice and roller depending on time of year, and ice skating all on its own is quite popular and well served with facilities in Philly.
and beyond that, there's a lot of facilities that are like, just outside the city, frankly some of them are closer to a lot of neighborhoods than the ones in the city proper are! there's a couple just over the various bridges in NJ, pretty much all of them accessible via transit. similarly there are others outside the city in the near suburbs in PA. Even the local one to where I grew up outside Philly which was actually shut down for a few years in the 2010s recently got revived, refurbished, and reopened.
maybe save your prophecies of doom for uh, things that are true? it ain't hard to roller skate in Philly!
Okay, I know I acted silly about this, but the fact that there is 1 singular year round roller skating rink in the city of Philadelphia home to 1.6 million people is kinda fucking horrifying when you think about the broader implications of it.

Trump Org Presses Eric Adams for Wollman Rink Rights After City Hall Spurned $120M Nonprofit Gift | THE CITY — NYC News
The Trump Organization is aggressively lobbying the office of Mayor Eric Adams to win its bid to run Central Park’s Wollman Rink, two sources familiar with the matter confirmed to THE CITY — squeezing Adams to award a contract even as President Donald Trump’s Justice Department moves to dismiss the mayor’s corruption case.
The city put out a solicitation for bids just days after Trump won reelection in November. The opening for Trump to run the coveted rink also came just weeks after the nonprofit Central Park Conservancy had offered to give the city $120 million to replace the rink and fix up part of the park.
Deputy Mayor Meera Joshi and Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue didn’t take the gift offer — and didn’t respond to the conservancy’s followup. After ghosting the conservancy, the Department of Parks and Recreation put up a public notice the morning of Nov. 13 seeking bids to operate the rink.
Within hours, a Trump Organization executive was quoted as stating the company intended to pursue the contract — suggesting advance knowledge of the bid opportunity.
If City Hall awards the Wollman Rink concession to the Trump Organization, the president’s family business, it would link the popular tourist destination at the foot of the iconic park to the Trump name once again.
Trump has used Wollman Rink for years to burnish his claim that he is a brilliant businessman.
During the 1980s, the Koch administration had tried for years to refurbish the broken-down rink. After six years and $20 million in government spending, the project had collapsed. Enter rising star developer Donald Trump, who promised to get the job done in six months for $3 million. He did it in four months for $2 million.
His company ran the rink for decades but was kicked out by Mayor de Blasio following the Jan. 6, 2021, riot by Trump supporters at the Capitol. Last year, a judge ruled the company liable for more than $363 million in a civil case brought by state Attorney General Letitia James, centered on financial misrepresentations by the company to the state of New York in tax filings.
