Note
As someone who loves sweets, what fine desserts exist across Tamriel? I’ll bet the bosmer get super creative! And the Khajiit are sure winners.
Aside from candies and sweets, desserts across Tamriel reflect local tastes and vary in complexity, flavour, and texture.
Altmer
Dessert in Summerset is always served cool or chilled, and is bound to be just the right amount of flavourful and refreshing. Take, for example, the famous sorbet cups served everywhere from street corners in Alinor to posh dining tables. Some of my favourite flavours are candied cherry blossom, jasmine with dark chocolate chips, and mint with lime zest.
Argonians
Nothing beats the popping "onde-onde" balls beloved by Black Marsh residents. These sticky "cakes" are made of glutinous rice, and have a liquid coconut or palm sugar centre, and are liberally coated in shredded coconut. While small and easy to eat in a bite, the glutinous rice does get quite filling, so four is usually enough for dessert!
Bosmer
Custard, in its most perfect, creamy, glorious, silky form, is one of the staples of Valenwood desserts. Made with sugar mammoth cream and eggs, these lightly sweet custards are served as is, chilled, or topped with bacon bits for some crunch. My personal favourite is the non-Green Pact version of a creme brulee, where custard is drizzled with moon sugar and blasted with a flame spell until caramelised and crisp on top.
Bretons
The humble chocolate pastry is probably every Breton's favourite everyday treat, and for good reason. Sweet dark chocolate enveloped by buttery puff pastry is oh so simple yet oh so decadent. Best served with a cup of tea or coffee.
Dunmer
A traditional Dark Elf dessert loved by all from Mournhold to Windhelm is a deliciously weird "cake" made from a layer of sweetened glutinous saltrice, and topped with an equally-sized firm layer of marshmerrow custard. Served chilled, these "kueh salat" are enormously addictive and satisfying. One of my favourite desserts.
Imperials
Every Imperial dessert is enjoyable in my book, especially those containing a drop or two of something boozy. Take, for example, the humble tiramisu of Bruma. Almond and coffee and all things flavourful make up this rich, mascarpone-based cake, made traditionally with almond biscuits soaked in amaretto as a base. Topped with a mound of glorious cocoa powder, it's a sumptuous delight of a dessert.
Khajiit
Miso...caramel? Umami fermented soy bean paste meets rich moon sugar caramel for the ultimate flavour fusion that I certainly wasn't prepared for! Big batches of Miso caramel are always on hand in any confectioner's kitchen. It goes in everything from ice cream and cheesecake to being mixed with dulce de leche for an outrageously decadent pudding. On that note, I'll have one miso caramel pudding with a miso caramel cream coffee, thanks.
Nords
Steamed treacle pudding gets my vote as one of Skyrim's best desserts. Dense and gooey, and sometimes even drenched in mead, these puddings are served hot at every tavern (rivalling Breton sticky toffee pudding). Topped with whipped cream, the rich treacle is a real treat when poured over and infused into the rich butter pudding!
Orcs
Sweet potato pudding is a set custard infused with lots and lots of roasted sweet potatoes! Mashed and mixed into a plain creme patissiere, then swirled through with a spiced caramel swirl, these ganache-like treats are simply to die for (and you just might, if you try nick this off an Orc).
Redguards
Cardamom and saffron are ubiquitous in Redguard cooking, and this includes desserts. "Rasmalai", a dish made from fried, spongy patties of cottage cheese soaked in cardamon syrup, floating in a thick and sweet saffron and cardamom milk sauce. While it sounds a bit odd, rasmalai is a true treat for the senses, and is a rich and flavourful end to any meal.

Birthday Celebrations at Magic Square and Bincho
For my big 42th birthday celebrations, my dear wife decided to indulge in my foodie soul with dinner at two locations: Magic Square and Bincho.
Magic Square is a unique incubator for young local chefs located at Portdown Road. Chefs are rotated to lead the restaurant with menus revised and fine tuned based on the ingredients selected for the season.
Tumblr media
Once you step inside, you will immediately notice that there are only bar seats available in the restaurant which allows more diners to be seated as well as providing a more intimate setting to allow free flowing conversations and interactions with the chefs.
Tumblr media
The main theme for the night is fish and the chef incorporates the key ingredient with local inspirations and flavors to concoct his own unique menu comprising of 9 dishes.
Tumblr media
Gokko Roe - puffed rice cracker, Gokko infused cream, betel leaf.
Small crisp bite but nothing too memorable.
Tumblr media
Tenshino-ebi - jambu granita, cherry tomatoes. sour plum.
Refreshing starter with sour plum and cherry tomatoes helping to brighten up the dish.
Tumblr media
Mehikari - ginger sour-cream, pickled cucumber, mehikari bone crumble.
The ginger sour-cream tends to overpower the small oily fish, almost drowning out all of its natural flavors.

Xiao Long Bao - yellowtail, indian halibut, fish soy.
Though delicious, it is missing the sense of satisfaction that you get from a really good pork dumpling.
Tumblr media
Egg noodles - hairtail, you mai chai, red wine lees.
It is not too bad though the noodles could have a bit more bite.
Tumblr media
Cabbage - lamb belly lardo, fermented mustard greens, tau cheo mayo.
Overall, I feel that the fermented mustard greens performed better than its main star.
Tumblr media
Margra Lamb - eggplant, cashew miso, burnt carrot puree.
This lamb dish performed better than its predecessor though the accompanying sauces might need a little bit more fine tuning.
Tumblr media
Lime sorbet - coconut husk, green chili, laksa leaf.
An acquired taste with great ideas though it is not a dessert that me and my wife enjoyed.
Tumblr media
Pineapple - clove ice cream, coconut, puffed rice.
Similar to the previous dessert, it is interesting trying to pair these flavors together but unfortunately it did not fare well with me and my wife’s taste buds.

Overall, although I did not like all of the dishes for the night, Magic Square is still a great initiative that I support as it provides a great opportunity for amazing local talents to be cultivated and nurtured for the good of all of the foodies in Singapore.
Next stop: Bincho - my wife’s favorite Japanese izakaya in Singapore. And after dining there, it is hard not to agree with her.

Below is a quick look at all of the dishes that we enjoyed at Bincho. I have nothing more to say about them except that it is a foodie destination for all izakaya lovers. Just open up your wallet and eat away!
Chicken Neck: Deboned and grilled to perfection.
Tumblr media
Seasonal Grilled Vegetables: Each vegetable comes with its own sauce to accentuate its natural flavors.
Tumblr media
Wagyu Beef Tongue: Chewy and juicy, with just the right amount of salt for a satisfying bite.
Tumblr media
Grilled Octopus on a Stick and Baby Octopus: Chewy delicious goodness that goes perfectly with a tall glass of ice cold beer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grilled Rice Ball: The best tasting grilled rice ball that I have ever had, served with a small piece of grilled fish and topped with fish roe and bonito flakes. Wrapped it all up in a toasty seaweed and be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
Tumblr media
Grilled Maguro: Two chunky pieces of maguro slowly grilled over charcoal fire for at least 25-30 minutes to draw out all of its flavors.
Tumblr media
Chicken Thigh: Ending the night on a high with two juicy pieces of charcoal grilled juicy chicken.

Big thank you to my lovely wife for planning such a special night for me!

Lunch today was at the one-month old @atelier_robuchondubai • Le déjeuner (set lunch) is 129 AED for either a starter, main and dessert or two starters and a main with some options for an extra 50AED (scroll to the last photo to see what was on the set menu). • We all had the two starter and one main. First up was an amuse bouche of cucumber gazpacho followed by the aubergine millefeuille for me, salmon tataki for @ditasgerman and gazpacho for both @elaatlig and @hindwerle • Then two of us had the crevettes (vermicelli-wrapped shrimp for an extra 50AED) and the other two had the gyoza (chicken and leek dumplings in broth) • We all had the cod in herb ravioli with a basil and vegetable broth for our main course. • We weren’t going to have any dessert then finally decided to share two. While the desserts were being prepared, they gave us a pre-dessert of refreshing basil lime sorbet with raspberry coulis. • Finally, the avocado soufflé with a dark chocolate sorbet and the light coconut and mango mousse were served with an extra dessert which turned out to be the dessert du jour: a light yoghurt and melon sorbet with fruits and a biscuit crumble. • All in all a good lunch and good value for three-courses if you stick to the script and not order the extras. • #TravelswithaGourmet #TWAGDubai #latelierdejoelrobuchon (at Atelier Robuchon Dubaï) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHLrG0Dnt8j/?igshid=2vckk2noypm6
