Cabin Fever (Kirk Hammett x Reader NSFW)
Confessions, Riding, Unprotected Sex
Word Count: 4,588
A winter vacation she didn't even want to go on leaves Reader and Kirk closer than she ever thought.
(This is cross posted to AO3 for @mustainegf 's writing contest! mostly its shameless Kirk smut.)
Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, The Bahamas. Really there was an extensive list of much warmer places that Y/N would rather be right now for the winter holidays. Enjoying cool tropical waters, warm sandy beaches and fruity drinks. However, her choices were out-voted by the rest of the guys. No, her friends wanted a real rustic winter getaway, up in a ski lodge in the rocky mountains.
It would be a lie to say it wasnât beautiful in its own way. It was an endless sea of white, a small little mountain town completely blanketed in fresh fluffy snow. It glistened in the afternoon sun, reflecting off the imposing mountains that bordered the town, in the distant a bright blue glacial lake that hadnât quite frozen over yet.
The picturesque scenery did not make up for the instant dampness that traveled up to her knees as she hopped out the lifted truck. Cold and uncomfortable as it soaked through her jeans. She looked down with a frown, sticking her tongue out in disgust. âAugh, yuck, what the fuck do they not shovel around here?â She lifted her legs attempting to brush the snow off of her.
A cackle sounded behind her, and she turned with a glare to greet all the boys. âYeah well who wears jeans and sneakers to a fucking ski resort.â Lars taunted her as he adjusted the wool hat on his head. She eyed each of the guys carefully. Truthfully she had thought they were over dressed when they started the trip here. She was envious now of Jamesâs huge fur lined coat. Even Cliff was wearing heavier denim than usual.
Y/N scoffed and rolled her eyes, her arms coming to wrap themselves around her body as the cold winds started to soak in through her leather jacket. âDoesnât look like much of a resort to me.â She chortled. The cabin was wholly unassuming, It was a two story building, large enough to house all of them but nothing special. A large pile of firewood sat on the front porch protected from the snow by the overhanging eave of the roof. The only standout was the large bay window. No other cabins surrounded them; they were seemingly alone.
âFor the fucking price we paid it better be.â James grumbled walking ahead of the group, his luggage and snow gear under his arms as he shoved the front door open. Y/N rolled her eyes and grabbed her own small luggage. She had no intention of doing any sort of snow sport so she packed light thankfully.
The interior of the cabin was cozy. Surrounding a huge stone fireplace were long armchairs, worn leather couches and a plethora of fuzzy blankets and soft pillows decorating the seats. âFirst one upstairs gets the master bedroom!â Kirk called out from behind her, already dropping his bags at the base of the stairs. Of course he would, the little shit, he was halfway up the stairs when he called it out.
âNot fair!â Y/N called out, quickly playing chase as she scrambled after him, her socked feet slipping a little against the polished wood. There were disinterested groans from the boys left on the first floor as the two raced upstairs. Y/N was out of breath as she stumbled into the room, seeing Kirk already lounging on the large bed in victory. âFuck you that was cheating.â She heaved out, flopping next to him face first into the mattress.
Kirkâs breathy laugh warmed her cheeks as he began slowly pushing her off the bed. âToo bad, so sad.â He teased. âAnd Iâm not sharing.â She fell to the floor limply, face pressed against the cool wood as she slowly gathered her breath. He leaned over the side, looking down at her with a toothy smile.
âYou are actually the worst.â She groaned, reaching up to flick his forehead. âYou made me run all the way up here, the least you can do is be a gentleman and bring my bags from downstairs to my room.â She pouted, batting her eyelashes at him. Slowly she lifted herself into a sitting position, resting her back against the bed as she took in the surroundings of the room.
She was sitting on a faux hide rug, the fur soft between her fingers. The bed was a large four post bed, with warm red flannel sheets and its own large window overlooking the back of the cabin she hadnât seen. It overlooked the actual ski resort, in the distance like ants were the small figures of people ripping down mountains, chair lifts and gondolas. It seemed so far away from where they were now.
The bed creaked lightly as Kirk lifted his weight from the mattress. âI donât think that's how it works, You didn't have to race me.â As his feet touched the floor his hand came down roughly on her head, ruffling her already wild hair. âBut I guess I kind of like you so Iâll do it.â He sighed jokingly.
Y/N watched him leave the room with a warm smile, hands gently going to smooth out her hair from where he had tangled it further, a soft sigh escaping her lips. Slowly she got up, stepping out into the decorated hallway, snow shoes, hunting gear and antlers hug upon its walls. She shuffled into a seemingly unoccupied room, nowhere near as impressive as the master.
A single bed was pushed into the corner of the room, light blue sheets and duvet. The walls were painted brighter and soft lights hung across the walls. Likely meant for a child's bedroom but it would do just fine for her. Kirk all but tumbled in after her, her bags and his own thrown across his body as he nearly collapsed from the weight. Y/N quickly rushed to grab her things from him. âWhy would you take it all up at once?â She chastised him.
âTwo trips are for pussies.â He grunted, readjusting the bags across his back. Y/N couldnât help but giggle at him, the urge to push him over tingled at her fingertips. Instead she relented, grabbing a duffle bag from his hands and walking him back to the entrance of his room where she dropped it. âThanks Y/N.â He huffed, dropping his things and running a hand through his long curls.
Y/N glanced once more out the window in Kirk's room, it seemed the sky grew dimmer already despite it being early evening, large flakes of snow were falling now. She couldnât help the small smile that tugged on the corners of her lips. Despite all her bitching and complaining it was truly a winter wonderland outside. Kirkâs eyes stayed trained on her face with a fond look. She caught his gaze in her peripheral vision and blushed.
Suddenly there was a noise from downstairs, James gruff voice boomed from the bottom of the stairs. âY/N, Kirk get your asses down here!â He called. The two turned to each other with a shrug. Y/N hopped down the stairs two at a time. Warmth suddenly flooded her the closer she got to the bottom, an orange flickering light danced along the walls and the crackling of a fire reached her ears.
Cliff, Lars and James stood by the door, still fully dressed. âThese idiots forgot to bring beer, so we're heading back into the town before the snow gets any worse.â Cliff explained with an exasperated sigh. âWant to come with us?â He asked.
The town was about a 20 minute drive back down the mountain, and truthfully Y/N wasn't willing to brave the cold again. Her eyes drifted to the window, the snow seemed heavier now, denser, the truck outside already buried beneath it. âIs it really safe to drive right now?â She mumbled with concern. âI donât think Iâll join but I don't know if you guys should go either.â
James twirled the keys around his finger casually. âWeâll be fine, I've driven in worse, want anything from town?â He asked with a cocky grin. Any worry Y/N had for his well being flew out the window as she rolled her eyes at him. âKirk?â He asked the man beside her with a raised eyebrow.
Kirk thought for a moment before shaking his head. âNah Iâm good Iâll keep Y/N company here so she doesnât get scared.â His voice wavered as he impersonated a ghost, wiggling his fingers towards her. She swatted his hands away giggling. âDrive safe you guys.â
The group bid farewell to them, a cold gust of wind ripping through the house as the door swung open. Y/N watched them carefully as they brushed off the vehicle and backed out of the driveway. As they disappeared into the distance she sighed and shuffled back into the living room. She sat on a recliner chair closest to the fire. The cold in her bones finally thawed out.
âI really doubt booze is important enough to drive in this weather.â She complained, eyeing Kirk as he moved to the T.V in the corner of the room, flipping through the collection of tapes that had been left in the cabin. Kirk's fingers stopped on a tape.
Holding it up for her, Y/N leaned forward squinting to read the title. âDon't underestimate their need to be drunk.â Kirk shook his head. âTheyâll be fine, don't worry so much Y/N.â Finally she could read the title. âBlack Christmasâ.
âKirk no,â She whined, throwing her head back as he moved to place it in the VCR. âI am so not in the mood for anything spooky right now while we're up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere.â Her protests were made in vain as the hum of the T.V coming to life filled the room. âIâm going to my room.â She moved to get out of her chair.
An evil laugh escaped Kirk causing Y/N to turn her head towards him again. âYou donât want to go upstairs alone, that's where the killer will be.â He warned her with a smug smirk. He leaned back against the leather, kicking his feet up onto the coffee table and slinging his arm around the back of the couch. His eyes darted from her face to the empty spot next to him.
A chill ran up her spine, causing her to shiver violently. Logically she knew there was no one upstairs but with the thought implanted into her brain she begrudgingly moved across the room to him. Her friend smiled at her in victory. Y/N elbowed him lightly as she grabbed one of the throw blankets and sat on the couch leaving a space between them. She didnât notice the sudden frown on Kirk's face. âI hope you know I hate you so much.â She huffed.
The opening of the movie began playing, showcasing a deranged killer breaking into a sorority house. The phone on the screen rang out at the same time the cabinâs phone did. Y/N jumped with a blood curdling scream, tucking into herself as she looked towards the offending sound. It caused Kirk to jump at her reaction, placing a hand over his chest to calm his rapidly beating heart.
âHoly shit, Calm down Y/N, the movie just fucking started.â He breathed out, looking at her in concern before getting off the couch to grab the phone off the wall. As he answered it a worried look crossed his face, eyes darting between Y/N and the window outside, it was pitch black now. âYeah, okay, I'm glad you guys are safe, we will see you tomorrow then.â He spoke into the receiver before hanging up.
Y/N leaned over from the couch with curious eyes. âEverything Okay? Who was that?â She asked, jumping a little at the sounds of murder coming from the T.V. She watched as Kirk walked to the door, turning the deadbolt and drawing the curtains over the windows.
Kirk gave her a reassuring smile. âThe guys are stuck in town.â He sighed. âTruck got stuck on the road, they are safe in a hotel so donât worry, they're gonna get towed up here tomorrow.â He assured her as he tossed another log on the fire before settling back in next to her.
âUgh those fucking idiots, I knew they shouldnt have left.â Y/N sighed, relieved still that they were all safe. Her body relaxed slightly. âOkay well I definitely don't want to keep watching this, not if we have to sleep all alone here tonight.â she shuddered at the thought. Fear creeping up her skin and settling there.
âWhat, it's just getting good!â Kirk gestured to the T.V as more violence ensued, honestly Y/N had already lost the plot. âDonât worry Iâll protect you from crazy murderers.â He joked, opening his arms up and gesturing for her to come closer. Y/N eyed him wearily, it would be the closest in proximity she had ever been to him if she took him up on the offer. The eager and hopeful look in his big brown eyes had her sighing and shuffling over.
His arms wrapped around her shoulders as she pressed the side of her face to his chest. Their legs kicked out to the side as they lay on the couch, a sudden tangle of limbs. He smelt warm, like sage, sandalwood and maybe a little citrusy. Red stained her cheeks as she could hear his heart beating erratically in his chest, on the outside he seemed calm though.
She peaked up at him, staring at the underside of his chin, just close enough to see the faint outline of stubble coming in. His eyes seemed permanently locked onto the screen. His hands gripped onto her tightly. To his credit she did feel safer from serial killers, but not from her own ugly feelings rearing their head.
Y/N wasnât willing to risk her friendship with him or the rest of the guys over a stupid crush, even if the crush had lasted the entire three years she had known them now, Since she first met them as a sound tech for their first tour. She peered back over to the T.V, her vision partially obscured by his arms. Suddenly it didnât seem to matter what was playing anymore.
Pushing her face deeper into his chest she tugged the blanket tighter around them. Soft whimpers still leaving her lips at any sudden loud noises. She could feel his chest moving as he chuckled at her. âShut up.â She mumbled against the fabric of his shirt. âItâs so not funny.â
Suddenly his hand was in her hair, gently rubbing his fingertips into her scalp soothingly. âYouâre just cute is all.â He looked down at her finally. His big brown eyes seemed almost red in the warmth of the firelight. Y/Nâs heart skipped in her chest, breath hitching in her throat.
âDonât say that.â She whispered.
âWhy not?â Kirk asked with a frown, a crease forming between his eyebrows. His hand stilled on her head, strands of her hair tangled between his fingers. âDoes it make you uncomfortable?â
Quickly Y/N shook her head, her hands coming up to grip onto the bottom hem of his shirt. âNo, it's not that.â She could feel the heat in her cheeks increase. âYou justâŠyou don't mean that in the way I want you to.â She confessed, the words spilling past her lips before she could stop them.
âWho are you to decide how I feel? Especially if I donât even know how you want me to feel.â His eyes were glassy and sad as he dipped his head lower. His breath ghosted over her skin gently. âThat doesn't feel like a fair assumption Y/N.â They settled into a silence, staring at each other accompanied only by the crackling of the fire and muffled sounds of the movie.
She blinked hard, examining his face for any tell on his intentions. If she was wrong about this she would be very, very wrong. It wasnât a potential mistake to make lightly. âI..â The words caught in her throat. She swallowed nervously. âI donât want to fuck this up.â Kirkâs hand moved untangling itself from her hair and trailing down to her face, his thumb rubbing underneath her watery eyes. âI donât think theres anything you could say right now that would fuck things up.â His voice was soft and tender. She couldnât help the way her eyes drifted to his lips as he spoke, his cute teeth poking from behind.
With a shaky sigh Y/N shifted her weight, leaning up further into Kirkâs personal space. âI want you to find me cute, not like a friend.â She started slowly, carefully watching the shift in his expression for any distaste. âI want desire to consume you the way it does me, I want your hands to shake when they brush against mine, your heart to jump in its chest when you see me, to want to kiss me-â
The sentence was cut short as Kirk swiftly leaned down, closing the miniscule gap between them. His fingers gripped against the soft skin of her cheek as he pulled their lips together. Y/N stopped breathing for a moment, her stomach twisting in surprise and anticipation. He tasted sweet like vanilla ice cream and faintly like tobacco.
Y/N was eager to return the kiss, Her hands scrambling up his body to wrap her hands in his hair, tugging him closer. Clumsily their teeth smacked against each other causing them to pull back laughing. Kirk's hand stayed cupping her face, with a fond smile. âThatâs exactly how I want you Y/N.â he sighed.
Her skin burned where his thumb gently rubbed her cheek, a smile plastered on her face as she admired him closely. âYou mean it?â She asked gently. Her fingers twirled around his soft curly hair. She watched with bated breath as his tongue gently peeked out, swiping across his bottom lip quickly, leaving it shiny.
âWant me to show you how much I mean it?â Kirk asked, his tone implying anything less than innocent. Like a switch was flipped, his eyes gleamed with something darker. His free hand trailing down to her hip and tugging her further up.
She was now acutely aware of the way their bodies pressed against each other, her hips coming to settle right on top of Kirks own, the pressure of something hard settled against her inner thigh. Her eyes snapped down quickly, a pleasant tingle running along her spine. She had yearned for so long to feel this desire from him. She shuffled, sitting up into a straddling position and pushing Kirk further into the couch. âOnly if it means more to you than just one night of fun.â She hoped her request didnât come across as desperate.
âBaby if I have you once Iâm never letting you go.â He assured her, looking up at her in anticipation. His gaze longing as he rubbed small circles into her hips. His erection pressed against her ass as it strained desperately against his jeans. âI want you to be mine in every single way.â The confession was sincere and had Y/Nâs heart aching.
Leaning down she captured him in a sweeter kiss this time, slow and steady as they learned the way their lips fit together. His skin was so soft against hers and she couldnât help the soft whine that left her lips as she tried to drink him all in. Her hands pressed to his chest as she steadied herself above him. âFuck, make that sound again.â Kirk groaned into the kiss, rolling his hips up to grind against her.
The sudden friction caused another moan to come barreling from her lips. She pulled back, their foreheads pressed together as Kirk held her hips in place, seeking relief from the pressure by pressing up against her. âJust like that pretty girl.â He sighed, tossing his head back against the arm of the couch with a small smile. âYou sound so sweet.â
Experimentally Y/N shifted her hips, causing his hard on to rub against her core through the layers of their jeans. She squeeked, pressing down harder chasing the feeling once more. Kirkâs hips stilled, watching her in awe as she repeated the movement. Her eyes fluttered close as she rolled her hips against him. âG-god, Kirk,â She stuttered out.
âY/N, Fuck, I need you out of this now.â He tugged on the waistband of her jeans desperately. Y/Nâs eyes opened slowly, looking down on his fucked out expression. She nodded slowly and moved to stand up from the couch. Slowly her hands lifted to the hem of her shirt pulling it over her head, next unbuttoning her tight jeans and stepping out of them. She stood before him, lit only by the fire behind her casting a warm glow across her skin. His mouth felt dry at the sight of her reaching behind her back to unclasp her bra.
His eyes dropped to her chest as her tits were freed. Slowly her hands traced around them and down her body, tugging at the flimsy fabric of her underwear. Quickly he scrambled to undo his own jeans, shimmying out of them from his position against the couch, tugging them off along with his underwear.
Kirkâs cock slapped against the skin of his stomach as it sprung back. Y/Nâs eyes widened a little in anticipation, quickly crawling back on top of him with a hungry kiss. It elicited a low groan from him, his hands quickly moving to cup her tits, squeezing the soft skin gently. Slowly she lowered her hips, rubbing her wet heat down his length teasingly. It caused his hips to stutter up involuntarily, knocking a shaky moan from both of them. âFucking tease,â he hissed out.
Y/Nâs giggle landed against his ears like music. She pulled her head back, sitting up straight and looking down at him with a smile. âYouâre just impatient.â she giggled. Taking a moment to appreciate the sight of him beneath her, the feeling of his cock pressed against her, a delicious warmth spreading from her core and encompassing her whole body. âYou can fuck me anytime you like.â
Kirkâs fingers fell from her chest, gently thumbing over her nipples as he moved down to her waist. He pulled her up, hips lifting up just enough for him to reach down between them. He grasped the base of his dick before aligning himself with her entrance. âYou okay with this, I don't have a condom.â He stopped, the rational part of his brain working for just a moment.
âOn the pill, donât worry.â Y/N breathed out heavily, taking the next step to lower herself onto him. His body shuddered beneath her at the sudden warmth squeezing around him. She gasped, breath punched from her lungs with each inch she took. In this position she could feel him comfortably nuzzled against her cervix as she fully sheathed him. âF-fuck thatsâŠa lot.â She mumbled out, head dipping low.
Feeling almost uncomfortably full Y/N lifted her hips for relief. Whining at the loss of her heat Kirk pistoned back up into her. She squealed falling forward, her hands gripped desperately at the leather of the couch, her chest pressed against his own as he began fucking up into her. âFuck, you feel so good Y/N.â He groaned into her ear. His fingers tightened around her waist, hard enough she winced, expecting bruises there the next day.
Each soft moan that fell from Kirkâs lips left Y/N wetter, the sound of him sliding in and out of her heat bounced off the walls. He was so vocal and Y/N wanted to record each noise he made so she could replay them forever. âHarder, Kirk.â She moaned, shakily pushing herself back up to look at him.
His mouth hung open, brows furrowed as he concentrated on the obscene bouncing of her tits above him. His thrusts up into her grew more aggressive, each slam of his hips into her own left her feeling bruised inside but she couldn't get enough of it. âYouâre so beautiful,â He gasped. His hand came to rest above her pelvis. Stilling his movements for just a moment, his thumb pressed against her clit.
Y/N cried out, her nails digging into his shoulders as he rolled the sensitive nub underneath his fingers. Tears sprung to her eyes at his relentless attack against her. âOh, oh, fuck!â She chanted the pressure building up inside her, a coil being wound tightly in her lower stomach. âPlease Kirky, want to finish with you.â She grasped on to his wrist in a desperate attempt to get him to ease up.
Slowly he rolled his hips again. He continued with shallow thrusts, moaning lowly at the way she clenched around him desperately. âFuck okay, cum pretty girl, want you to cum all over my cock.â He groaned.
The coil snapped with force, Y/Nâs scream echoed through the empty cabin as she came around Kirkâs girth. Her body convulsed, falling forward helplessly as he fucked her through her release. His thrusts grew sloppy as he grew close as well. She cried into his shoulder at the continued stimulation, soft hiccups and tears wetting the skin. His arms came to wrap around her pulling her close as he stilled inside her.
She could feel the soft spasms of his cock as he coated her insides with his hot sticky load. Their fluids mixing together and dripping down his length to his balls before puddling under them on the couch. His heavy breaths against her ear tickled her skin. âOh my god.â Kirk sighed gently, pressing a soft kiss to her skin.
âYeah that about sums it up.â Y/N giggled weakly, her body completely limp against him as they lay there, still connected as he softened inside her. Slowly he began to slip out, Y/N sighing at the sudden loss of him inside her. With it came the last of their mixed climax and she winced at the sudden fluid coating her inner thighs. âUgh gross.â She mumbled.
âYou asked for it.â Kirk chuckled, carefully maneuvering them into a sitting position. He smiled down at her, pushing her hair back from her face where it stuck to her skin with sweat. He kissed her again. A kiss more pure, free from any nervousness or temptation. It had her beaming back up at him, hopeful for the future where they shared more kisses like that.
Y/N eyed the mess they had made on the couch. âWe should get up and clean that up.â She shuffled her naked body from Kirkâs lap stepping back into her underwear and her shirt, forgoing the bra or jeans. Behind them she could hear the end credits of the movie rolling.
Kirk followed suit, stepping back into his underwear and sacrificing his own jeans to clean up the mess on the worn leather. âYou know, we can just share the master bedroom if you want.â He turned to her with a playful wiggle of his eyebrows. It earned him a laugh and a bra thrown at his head.
âI would fucking hope so!â

The Slopes of Mountain Aragats
#PriceGhostWeek
Day One: Confession/Kneel (@gomzdrawfr)
I hate this work with a passion, especially because I loved the place I'm describing here and I feel like I fucked up the chance to share this love with ghostprice and readers. But I spent too much time on it, so I'm just throwing it there, and if some other time you see me writing about mountain Aragats again, you pretend this shit never existed.
âDo you believe in God, Simon?â
A more or less expected question in a church, where sunbeams hang down from the light wells in the ceiling like see-through gauze fabric stripes, completely still in the air filled with thick smell of burning beeswax candles.
Not so expected when youâre stuck at a narrow window with a sniper rifle pointing outside, ancient walls of an Armenian church serving as basic cover for a slow-paced op. Nothing holy in this house of God, pigeon feathers left at the front steps sickly grey instead of pristine white. A few miles ahead an enormous bowl of an abandoned radio-optic telescope shined like a giant mirror on the slope of mount Aragats, blinding Ghostâs concentrated eyes with an annoying silver glint. Somewhere in the blocky constructivist building of the observatory on that same slope, among decades-old equipment and journals left open on a page with a 1990 date in the corner, were hidden remains of an abandoned space project certain Russians were suddenly interested in.
Ghostâs job was to quietly prevent them from leaving with the project in hands.
There lied a deep picturesque ravine separating Godâs and scientistsâ territories â a blooming rocky metaphor a little too on the nose for Simonâs liking. Clear sky above was the same for both, equally indifferent to the prayers and radio waves sent up by people desperate for answers.
He wouldnât remember a single time his Captain didnât answer a call through the comms.
âUnless old man in the skies sends me a cloud to get rid oâ the fuckinâ reflection, no, sir, I donât.â
Priceâs distinct chuckle bounced off dark stone walls, gruff and muffled by a cigar caught between his lips. Its smoke was one of the few things still moving in this place, barely able to push through the thick candle smell â theyâd spent here so much time already that Simon had trouble remembering what did those bloody cigars smell like on their own. That meant some imaginary old man in the sky was trying to replace Priceâs smell with his own in Simonâs memory, forcing him to inhale sweet, greasy air that coats the roof of your mouth with a thin layer of soft polish â more the reason to despise the guy.
There was no God waiting for Simon outside his grave when he died, only Captain Price, and as long as Ghost still roamed this Earth, it would stay that way.
âJusâ thought heâd love ya for being able to kneel for so long.â
If the words rung in his ears like church bells, Ghost didnât show, still a frozen picture of a perfect sniper â kneeling was the only option to fit himself at the right level to look through the narrow window. He could think of a few other things this was the right level for, but decided against it, and if the cool of the stone interior got suddenly washed away by heat raining down his scruff, that was between him and God.
There was no God here, though, only John Price.
âLetâs switch. Canât âave ya dropping yer legs like a bloody lizard tail âcause you sat on them for too long.â
Ghost didnât move, acknowledging the offer with an unimpressed grunt, and blinked, fighting against his own body: as soon as Price mentioned it, his knees filled with tiny needles pressed into the squeaky joints and begged for mercy.
It was his Captain who decided whether Simon needed a break or not.
Something let out a short, sharp hiss behind him, and Ghost allowed his eyes to slide away from the target to see Price putting the butt of his cigar out in one of the water-filled trays for candles. With the myriad little flames eating away at the thin columns reflected in his sky-blue eyes, Price looked like God gazing over his land of ash-contaminated sea washing onto honey yellow shores of melted wax islands.
âCome on, boy, up. Canât switch if yer fat arse takes up all the space.â
âRich coming from you, sir.â
He finally moved, reluctantly, a gargoyle, foreign in the country of stone khachkar crosses, coming to live, uncoiling its creaking spine â a rod in the wide wingless back â and getting up from its aching knees. Price was already there, a firm pat on the back of his neck from a heavy hand and a smile of approval crinkling the corners of his eyes.
When Simon looked to the altar, what was left of an old Mary stared back with cracks of paint mimicking same expression around her single eye.
Price lowered himself into same position with a grunt, thick thighs bulging with the strain of his weight as he adjusted the rifle to his height â a few inches of difference that made Simonâs blood run hotter than the melted beeswax. He was hulking over his knelt Captain, shamelessly staring at that very ass, defined in the shitty lighting weaved from freshly pressed sunlight and stretched out candle flames â same lighting people are used to stare into big symmetrical eyes of holy icons.
There wasnât enough air up here, what little oxygen left at the mountain top burnt out with those flames; Simon tilted his head back, rolling up his bally soaked with sweat gathered on his mangled upper lip, and tried inhaling with his full chest. It felt like breathing through a clogged-up cheesecloth, molecules coagulating in a hard to distribute blobs, sticking to the waxed walls of his throat. Breathing poor air made him lightheaded, uneven, hand-cut stone floor unsteady under his feet enough to force him to back away, leaning onto the altar to stay upright.
There was no God to unleash wrath on him for gripping onto the cold, rough edge of the stone table. Tuff, darkened with centuries of life Tegher Monastery led â its still light wild rock brethren scattered all around the ravine separating them and the target â tried to close onto Simon, suffocating him in a tiny crypt.
A single shot rolled down the slope, quaking ready to crumble rocks and rattling an echo. Simonâs eyes shot open â when did he even close them? â just in time to see Price lean back with a quiet, satisfied smirk. That meant target was eliminated.
Simonâs vision went black.
When the light came back, first thing he saw was a misty halo around Johnâs head, bright Armenian sun leaking down the light well and pooling on the brim of that bloody hat.
âFocus on me, Simon. Sâalright, just breathe, aye? Gotta take ya outside, can you walk?â
He took one breath and stood up, knees buckling immediately â if not for Priceâs arms catching him under his armpits, he wouldâve fallen, forced to kneel at the altar of a God he didnât believe in.
Instead, he turned his back to the one-eyed Madonna with a faceless child on the cold stone wall and leaned into the warmth of his Captainâs thigh. His cheek pressed into Priceâs garter belt, eyes and mouth wide open in a suffocated awe.
âSimon? Simon, you hear me? Bloody hellâŠâ
A handlerâs hand found its way into his hair â he didnât even realize Price had taken off his mask as soon as he started choking on thin air â and pulled, forcing Simon to look up.
He saw blue sky in a round light well, dusted over with sunlight. And then, he saw God.
Simon didnât hear his own voice, his dry, uneven lips moving on their own, croaking out his only prayer on the last drops of oxygen in his constricted lungs. He could only see â two piercing blue light wells, widening for a second before slowly retracting back.
God smiled, running his calloused fingers through his lambâs blonde curls.
âI know, Simon. Sâalright. I know. Been waitinâ for some time tâ hear ya say that.â
A rough thumb stroked over a scar that ran a little too close to the desperate brown eye, staring up in search of a sacrificial knife and finding nothing. Simon breathed in â and felt his mind clear up with familiar musk and tobacco smell flooding his insides, gruff notes scraping the wax off, leaving him raw, unprotected and breathing.
âBetter now?â Priceâs smile grew brighter at the sound of a grumbling agreement. With a grunt, he gripped Simonâs arms and lifted him up, patting him over and resting his palms on the back of his boyâs neck. Guided, Simon leaned forward to rest his forehead against Johnâs. âYeah, thatâs it. Iâll always be there, aâright? You just follow and listen to me. âM gonna take care of you.â
Something forced the sunlight away from the light well â a cloud passed over the church, moving along to kill off reflection in the telescope bowl a few minutes too late.
âDo you trust me, Simon?â
âYes, sir.â

Ep-7 "The Valkyrie" SimonGhostRileyxFemaleReader
"I am a Valkyrie. And I will take the dead to the feast."
**Kabul, Afghanistan.Â
5 years Later:**
Special forces had been deployed to Kabul to restore order. Special Agent Activities Andrea Shepherd sat in a helicopter, her eyes scanning the barren landscape below.
"How long until we land?" Andrea asked the helicopter pilot over the roar of the engine.
"Just about an hour, ma'am. We're reaching the hills now," the pilot replied, his voice steady.
"Hmm," Andrea mumbled, gazing down at the sparse, rugged terrain.
The hour passed slowly, but eventually, the helicopter descended, touching down on the roof of a building. Andrea was the first to step out, her boots hitting the ground with purpose. A soldier approached and guided her to a corridor where her superior awaited.
Laswell, a white, middle-aged woman with short hair, stood with an air of authority. Andrea snapped to attention and saluted. "Agent Andrea Shepherd, at your service, ma'am," she announced.
"Andrea!" Laswell's voice was warm but firm as she shook Andrea's hand. "You're our most trusted agent. That's why you're here. Al Qaeda has become a significant threat. I know you won't hesitate to take action if needed."
"Thank you, ma'am. I won't disappoint you. I promise," Andrea replied, determination gleaming in her eyes.
Laswell nodded approvingly. "Good. Let me show you your room, Shepherd. Follow me."
As they walked through the narrow corridors, Andrea glanced at her watch. It was 4 p.m. The base was a hive of activity, soldiers moving with a sense of urgency and purpose.
"How's the situation on the ground?" Andrea asked, breaking the silence.
"Tense," Laswell admitted. "The locals are on edge, and the insurgents are getting bolder. We need someone with your skills to tip the balance."
"I'll do whatever it takes," Andrea assured her.
They reached a modest room, sparsely furnished but functional. "This will be your quarters," Laswell said, opening the door. "Settle in. Briefing is at 0600 hours."
Andrea nodded. "Understood, ma'am."
Laswell placed a reassuring hand on Andrea's shoulder. "We're counting on you, Shepherd. Welcome to Kabul."
"Thank you, ma'am," Andrea said, stepping into her new room. She set her bag down, the weight of her mission settling over her. There was no time to waste. She had work to do.
"It's your room. Inform James if you need anything," Laswell said, pointing toward a young soldier standing nearby.
"Okay, ma'am. Thank you," Andrea replied. She headed into her quarters, took off her coat, and tossed it onto the couch. Moving to the window, she looked out over the city, a mix of large and small buildings sprawled before her. The reflection of the narrow, muddy roads and bustling market filled her blue eyes.
The city was small, its bazaar filled with people scattered about, creating a lively, if chaotic, scene. Andrea took a moment to absorb the view, letting the reality of her new surroundings sink in.
Later, as she entered the briefing room, she noticed a group of Special Air Service soldiers. Laswell introduced them with a firm, confident voice.
As Andrea entered the briefing room, her eyes scanned the gathering of Special Air Service soldiers before her. A mix of anticipation and uncertainty washed over her. Each soldier embodied the raw intensity and determination that defined the elite unit. These were men who had seen the worst the world could offer, and yet continued to fight on, their spirits unbreakable.
Laswell stepped forward, clearing her throat to get their attention. "Everyone, this is Andrea Shepherd, our CIA field agent. She'll be joining you for this mission."
Captain Price, a seasoned veteran with a steely gaze, stepped up and extended his hand. "Captain John Price. Welcome to the team, Andrea."
She shook his hand firmly. "Thank you, Captain. It's an honor."
Beside him, a younger soldier with a focused demeanor nodded in greeting. "Sergeant Kyle Garrick. It's good to have you with us."
Andrea nodded back. "Likewise, Sergeant."
Laswell continued, "This mission is critical. We have intelligence on a Taliban compound where women and young girls are being held captive. Our objective is to infiltrate, secure the hostages, and extract them safely. Andrea will breach the security code and enter with the women, disguised in an abaya."
Price's face hardened with determination. "Consider it done."
Andrea appreciated the confidence in his voice. "I'll make sure the security systems are down before we go in. We won't have much time once we're inside."
Laswell handed out the mission details. "You'll need to be fast and precise. We don't know how many hostiles are in the building, so be prepared for anything."
Price looked at his team, then back at Andrea. "We move out in ten. Gear up."
The soldiers quickly gathered their equipment, checking weapons and ammo. Andrea followed suit, ensuring her M14 rifle was ready and her combat knives were in place. The weight of the mission pressed on her, but she channeled it into focus.
As they boarded the helicopter, the rotors cutting through the air, Andrea felt a sense of unity with the team. These men were her brothers in arms for the duration of the mission, and they all shared a common goal.
The flight to the target was tense but silent. Each soldier was lost in their thoughts, preparing for what lay ahead. When the pilot announced they were approaching the drop zone, Andrea tightened her grip on the rope.
Descending onto the roof, the team moved with practiced precision. Andrea's heart pounded in her chest, but she kept her breathing steady. They kicked the door open and stormed into the building, Price leading the charge.
Inside, the chaos erupted. Gunfire echoed through the corridors as they engaged the militants. Andrea moved swiftly, her training kicking in as she neutralized threats with deadly accuracy.
Inside, one of the women wearing an abaya had gone to the bathroom. It was Andrea. There, she unbuttoned her long black abaya and removed her veil, revealing a black T-shirt and jeans underneath. She was armed with combat knives and an M14 rifle. Her mission was to rescue the captive women from the Taliban.
Silently opening the bathroom door, she emerged, ready for battle. As a trusted CIA agent, she was a lethal fighter who never hesitated to kill, yet she carried a deep sense of justice, especially for the women held captive and abused.
She began shooting the Taliban soldiers, aiming for their heads and chests. The women screamed and ran in panic, trying to avoid the bullets. This chaos was happening on the first floor of the building.
Captain Price and Garrick methodically cleared each floor, breaking down doors and neutralizing militants. As they reached the second floor, Price saw Andrea running down from above.
"Get them out of here," he shouted to one of his men, hearing gunshots from below.
"Who's down there?" he demanded.
"I don't know, sir," a team member replied.
"Let me see for myself," Price said, descending the stairs. He was shocked to find Andrea in the lounge on the ground floor, fighting the militants with incredible skill and agility.
"Holy shit," he muttered, awestruck. He had never seen a woman fight with such precision and ferocity. She moved like a seasoned warrior, dispatching the militants effortlessly.
Price took cover behind a marble statue, watching her in awe. Despite his admiration, he knew he needed to assist her. As he stepped out to shoot, his rifle jammed.
"Shit!" he cursed, expecting to be gunned down. In a flash, Andrea grabbed a sword from a fallen militant and hurled it toward an attacker. The sword pierced the militant's chest, killing him instantly. She used his body as a shield and shot another militant, eliminating both threats.
With the area clear, she stood with her back to Price, breathing heavily. Price emerged from his cover, stunned by her prowess.
"That was impressive," he said, his voice filled with respect.
Andrea turned to him, her expression unreadable. "We need to get those women out of here. Now."
Price nodded, signaling his team to proceed. Together, they escorted the rescued women to safety, ensuring no one was left behind. The mission was a success, but for Price, the real revelation was Andrea's extraordinary capabilities.
Back at the base, as the sun rose over Kabul, Andrea felt a sense of accomplishment. The war was far from over, but in that moment, they had made a difference. And for Andrea, that was enough to keep fighting.
Laswell stood in the small, windowless room, her attention focused on a series of screens in front of her. Each screen displayed a different camera angle, offering unique views of the mission unfolding before her eyes. The hum of electronic equipment filled the cramped space, punctuated by the occasional static crackle or murmured radio conversation.
Her eyes flicked from one screen to another, absorbing the details: the movement of soldiers, the flash of gunfire, the chaotic dance of a mission in full swing. Each screen told a part of the story, and she stitched them together in her mind, forming a comprehensive picture of the operation.
"Agent Shepherd is in position," a voice crackled over the radio.
Laswell leaned closer to the screens, her eyes narrowing as she watched Andrea move with practiced ease, dispatching enemy combatants with lethal precision.
"Good," she murmured, more to herself than to anyone else in the room. "Let's get those women out of there."
On another screen, she saw Captain Price and his team advancing, methodically clearing each floor. Price's voice came through the radio next.
"Laswell, we've got heavy resistance on the second floor. Shepherd's engaging the hostiles on the ground level."
Laswell's jaw tightened. "Understood, Price. Maintain your position. Shepherd, do you copy?"
Andrea's voice came through, steady and controlled. "Copy, Laswell. Engaging hostiles and securing the captives."
Laswell watched as Andrea moved through the building, a blur of motion and efficiency. Her heart pounded in her chest, but her face remained impassive, her focus unyielding. Every second counted, and she knew the stakes were high.
"Price, Shepherd, proceed with extraction," she commanded, her voice cutting through the static. "Let's get them out safely."
The room fell silent save for the soft, constant hum of the equipment. Laswell's eyes remained glued to the screens, her mind racing with a thousand possibilities, each one more dire than the last. But she trusted her team. She trusted Andrea.
The mission was far from over, but in that small, windowless room, Laswell held on to hope, her belief in her team unwavering. They would succeed. They had to.
As the team returned to base, Andrea felt a surge of satisfaction. The mission had been dangerous, but they had succeeded. She had proven herself once again, not just to the CIA, but to her team.
Price approached her as they disembarked from the helicopter. "Andrea, I've worked with many soldiers in my time, but you... you're something else."
Andrea smiled slightly, a hint of pride in her eyes. "Thank you, Captain. Just doing my job."
Price nodded, respecting her humility. "Let's debrief and get some rest. We've earned it."
As they walked away, the sun began to rise over Kabul, casting a new light on the city and their mission. The war was far from over, but in that moment, they had won a significant victory.
The debriefing was a long and arduous process, but necessary for them to discuss the mission's successes, failures, and ways to improve their tactics for future operations. The team gathered in a small conference room, their eyes heavy with exhaustion, but their minds still focused. Captain Price stood at the front, while Laswell sat beside him, her gaze moving across the room as she listened to the different reports and observations.
Price cleared his throat, commanding the room's attention. "Alright, let's start with a rundown of the mission. Shepherd, you first."
Andrea leaned forward, her expression serious. "We breached the building as planned. Encountered heavier resistance than anticipated on the first floor. Managed to neutralize hostiles and secure the captives."
Laswell nodded, making a note. "Good work, Shepherd. What about the security breach? Any issues?"
"No issues," Andrea replied. "The code was simpler than expected. We were able to move quickly."
Price turned to his team. "Garrick, your report?"
Garrick rubbed his eyes, fighting off fatigue. "Second floor was a nightmare. More militants than intel suggested. We cleared it, but it took longer than planned."
Laswell interjected. "Do we know why there was an increase in numbers?"
Garrick shook his head. "Not yet. Could have been a recent regrouping or reinforcements we weren't aware of."
Price nodded. "We'll need better intel next time. Any injuries?"
"Minor ones," Garrick replied. "Nothing that would compromise future operations."
Laswell leaned back, absorbing the information. "We need to review our intel sources and ensure this doesn't happen again. What about the extraction? Any issues there?"
"Smooth," Price said. "Once we had the captives, we faced minimal resistance on the way out. The helicopter extraction was on point."
Andrea spoke up again. "The women were in poor condition, but they responded well to our presence. They're safe now."
Laswell made another note. "Good. We'll arrange for their care and debrief them separately."
The room fell silent for a moment as everyone processed the debrief. Price broke the silence. "Any suggestions for improvement?"
Andrea glanced around the room. "We need better intel, as Garrick mentioned. And perhaps more support on the ground for unexpected increases in enemy numbers."
"Agreed," Price said. "We'll adjust our protocols accordingly. Anything else?"
The team shook their heads, too tired to think of more at the moment.
"Alright, get some rest," Laswell concluded. "We'll reconvene tomorrow to finalize our report and prepare for the next mission. Good work, everyone."
As the team began to disperse, Andrea caught Price's eye. He gave her a nod of respect, which she returned. Despite the exhaustion and the lingering adrenaline, there was a sense of accomplishment in the room.
Andrea sat in the dimly lit conference room, the quiet hum of the ventilation system the only sound breaking the silence. The mission had been intense, the rush of adrenaline now slowly ebbing away, leaving her with a sense of weariness that seemed to sink into her bones. As she replayed the events of the night in her mind, she couldn't help but feel the weight of her responsibilities as a part of her job.
Lost in her thoughts, she was startled when Captain Price's voice broke through the stillness, clearing his throat to get her attention. Andrea looked up, her senses sharpening as she focused on him.
"Andrea! Can I have a moment?" Captain Price's voice was calm yet firm, the kind of voice that demanded attention in any situation.
"Yes, of course, sir," Andrea replied, straightening up in her chair. She was always respectful of Captain Price, admiring his leadership and experience.
"Please, have a seat," he gestured to the chair opposite him at the conference table. Andrea complied, her mind racing with thoughts about what he could possibly want to discuss.
"Why don't you join the task force with us, Andrea?" Captain Price's question hung in the air, his tone serious yet inviting. "Your father, General Shepherd, has founded Task Force 141âa team comprised of the best of the best. Judging by your skills back there, I'm amazed. You did a fantastic job. We could put your skills to good use."
Andrea's heart skipped a beat at the proposition. Task Force 141 was legendary in military circles, a covert unit known for taking on the toughest missions with unmatched precision. The idea of joining such a team was both thrilling and daunting.
"Thank you, Captain Price," Andrea responded, her voice steady despite the excitement bubbling within her. "I'll talk to my dad about this."
Captain Price nodded, a hint of approval in his expression. Andrea couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at his words. She knew that whatever decision she made, it would mark a significant turning point in her careerâand possibly her life.
As she left the conference room, Andrea's mind raced with possibilities. Joining Task Force 141 would mean stepping into a world of secrecy, danger, and unparalleled skill. It was a challenge she was ready to face, knowing that her father's legacy and her own abilities would guide her through whatever lay ahead.

The Price of Fame
Sean has one chance to make a name for himself in the true crime community, and he's willing to do whatever it takes. But is success truly worth the price? This is my entry for @dotzines "Red Zone- Vol. 3" horror zine! The zine is free and you can find it here!
The email simply said, "go back". No signature, no explanation; the sender's address was an incomprehensible jumble of letters and numbers.
Probably some fan trying to be creepy for clout. Rolling his eyes, Sean tossed his phone onto the passenger seat. It was bound to happen eventually; he was finally starting to make a name for himself, and personal experience had taught him that nothing on the internet was truly private. If parasocial freaks were the price of stardom, well⊠so be it.
He practically flung the rental car onto the neglected county road, spitting gravel onto the dusty highway. He took one deep breath after another, fingers drumming an unsteady tempo against the steering wheel as he fought to settle his nerves. Everything would be fine. It had to be. After today, Sean Masters would be a household name in the true crime community. This was the story that would push him out of obscurity and into the spotlight, his viral Hail Mary: the Stovald House.
He'd been scoping the property for days now, his frustration mounting at the never-ending parade of construction workers and white collar middlemen. Even at night, the humid air stirred not with crickets, but the ceaseless whir of power drills. Tomorrow the property would officially go on the market, ready for a perfect, smiling family to move in and call it their own. Today was his last chance to do what no one had ever done before: a podcast from inside the infamous Stovald House. Heâd even splurged on a new camera in the hopes of shooting a vlog or two while inside. Surely his loyal fans would be willing to pay for behind-the-scenes footage?
The peaks of the house appeared on the horizon, its new metal roof gleaming in the sunshine. There were craftsman-style renovations along the wraparound porch, an accent wall of false stone, even a fresh coat of paint on the white picket fence. Hardly anything remained of the old antebellum home, save the large windows in their dark shutters. Â
As he rounded the final curve, Sean caught sight of a figure standing by the mailbox. Tires squealing, he slid to a stop in front of the large FOR SALE sign tacked neatly beside the front gate. The woman turned curiously to look at him; her face was a mirrored reflection of the beaming image on the sign itself.
Son of aâ! Sean bit down on his tongue, cutting off the curse before it made its way past his lips. Heâd planned for cops, construction workers, even potential buyers. How could he have forgotten the real estate agent? Thinking quickly, he unbuckled his seatbelt and forced his expression into a polite smile.
âMorninâ!â He opened the car door but did not get out, trying to sound like a pleasant, ignorant stranger. âThis propertyâs open to view, right?â
The agent walked over, heels crunching on the uneven gravel driveway. She was middle aged, her curls pulled back in a fancy twist and half-moon spectacles hanging low on her nose.
âIâm afraid youâre a day early, sir.â She rested one hand on the door, effectively boxing him in. âI do apologize. Youâd best turn back, and try again tomorrow.â
âOh, thatâs a darn shame!â he sighed, slumping back in the seat. âWeâmy wife and Iâwere told the house would be open for viewing today. She really has her heart set on this place, you know, and I thought maybe if I drove up early enoughâŠ.â The agent stared at him for a long moment, pale eyes burning into his.
âWellâŠ.â She glanced at the empty house. âI suppose a quick peek wouldnât hurt. I canât take any offers, though.â
âOf course! Thank you, maâam.â Sean reached for the camera, pausing only when he saw the agentâs expression tighten. âErm⊠you donât mind if I take some pictures? For my wife?â
âWouldnât you rather call her?â
âI would, but she works long hours. Canât get away from her desk.â Could she hear the tremble in his voice? Was she second-guessing him? No! No, she was backing away from the car, allowing him to get out! Hook, line, and sinker.Â
He paused at the front of the manicured lawn, taking a few peremptory shots of the house. Even if a podcast was out of the question, he could still use the thumbnails for a YouTube recap.
âThe house has been fully renovated from the ground up,â the agent explained, waving him through the front door. âThe kitchen, I believe, is the standout success. French style, double ovens⊠does your wife cook?â
âHuh?â Sean peered curiously up the winding staircase. Thatâs where they found the first body⊠or body parts, at least. âO-Oh! No, we, uh⊠we eat a lot of takeout.â He snapped a quick picture of the shadowy landing before following the agent into the belly of the house. âDo you expect to see a lot of locals? Iâve heard stories about this place, and the family that lived here. The Stovalds?â The agent paused, turning on one heel to face him.
âWe are only accepting serious buyers at this time.â Was it a trick of the light, or did her eyes flash to the camera in his hands? âNow, the kitchen.â
âRight, right.â He snapped a few obligatory shots of the kitchen, nodding with feigned enthusiasm at her descriptions of the new appliances. She had just finished modeling the walk-in pantry when his patience finally reached the breaking point.
âBut you do know about what happened here, donât you? The Stovald Murders. It was the talk of the papers for weeks⊠or so my wife says.â Thoroughly irritated, the agent pressed her mouth into a thin line as she studied him over her spectacles.  Â
âIâm sure your wife would much rather hear about the house sheâd like to purchase, Mr. Masters.â
âIf you only knew! Sheâs a real true crime nut, my wifeââ Sean paused in the corridor as her words sank in. âHow didâ? I havenât told you my name.â The agent let out a low chuckle.
âYou really ought to have turned back.â The hair on his neck lifted, heart hammering against his sternum. Sean dropped the camera, bolting for the front door. He was barely three steps from freedom when it seemed that his shoes glued themselves to the floor. With a violent wrench he stopped, crumpling in a heap. The agent passed him calmly, closing the door and locking the deadbolt. She regarded him thoughtfully, her expression caught between amused and annoyed.
âDonât bother,â she sighed, watching his fingers fumble with his shoelaces. âEven if you manage to free yourself, thereâs nowhere to run.â
âWho are you?!â he spat, trying to sound braver than he felt. âIs this some kind of sick prank? What the hell have you done to me?â
âYou should be asking what youâve done to yourself, Mr. Masters.â A wry smile lifted the corner of her painted lips. âAt the moment, Iâm a real estate agent⊠but you might say Iâm an adjudicator of sorts. My colleagues and I deal mainly in sin, and you have committed several in your short time on this earth. Now, Iâm here to collect.â
"Whatâre you talking about!?" he howled, scanning for something, anything that might be a decent weapon; he lunged as hard as he could for the camera, but it was just beyond reach. "What sins? I haven't killed anyone, orâ"
âLetâs see.â The woman squatted next to him; adjusting her glasses, she began to count off on her fingers. âAn inflated sense of arrogance, craving what others have, profiting off the misery of victims? Pride, envy, greed⊠need I go on?â Â
âButâBut what about others? Why are you doing this to me?!â His gasp ended on a choked sob. Â
âWhy not you? No sin is greater than another, after all.â She looked him in the eye. âIf you must know, a long time ago I took a calculated risk on a fallen angel. You can guess how that ended. But there is something of a loophole⊠are you familiar with the Christian Bible, by any chance?â
Sean shrank into himself, eyes darting feverishly between her calm smile and the door. Something twisted in his leg as he struggled to free himself: muscle, or tendon? This canât be happening!
âYet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in iniquity,â the agent quoted. âBut thou hast delivered thy soul. See? The more unrepentant sinners I claim, the sooner Iâll find myself back in good graces.â
âBut you never warned me!â he sobbed, yanking fruitlessly at his leg. âI didnât know!â
âI told you twice to turn back. Itâs not my fault you didnât listen.â The agent wiped at his tearstained cheeks with a gentle hand. âBut donât worry.â
âYouâll be a household name one day⊠just like the Stovalds."

The Ultimate Showdown: Aluminum Roofs vs Traditional Materials - Which is Right for You?
Are you in the market for a new roof but feeling overwhelmed by the wide array of options available? Look no further! In this ultimate showdown, we will explore the battle between aluminum roofs and traditional roofing materials, helping you make an informed decision for your home. With the rising popularity of aluminum roofs, many homeowners are wondering if it's time to make the switch.
While traditional materials like asphalt shingles and wood may have been the go-to choices for decades, aluminum roofs offer a range of benefits that are hard to ignore. From increased durability and energy efficiency to enhanced curb appeal, aluminum roofs are becoming the top choice for homeowners seeking longevity and sustainability. However, traditional materials still have their merits. Join us as we delve into the pros and cons of each option, equipping you with all the information you need to make the right choice for your home.
Understanding Aluminum Roofs: Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages of Aluminum Roofs
Aluminum roofs have gained popularity in recent years due to their numerous advantages. One of the biggest benefits of aluminum roofs is their exceptional durability. Unlike traditional roofing materials that may deteriorate over time, aluminum roofs are known for their resistance to corrosion, cracking, and warping. This makes them an excellent choice for homeowners living in areas prone to harsh weather conditions such as hurricanes or heavy snowfall.
In addition to durability, aluminum roofs also offer excellent energy efficiency. Their reflective properties help to reduce heat absorption, keeping your home cooler in the summer and potentially lowering your energy bills. This can be particularly beneficial in regions with hot climates, as it reduces the strain on your air conditioning system. Furthermore, aluminum roofs are often made from recycled materials, making them an eco-friendly choice for environmentally-conscious homeowners.
Another advantage of aluminum roofs is their lightweight nature. Aluminum roofs weigh significantly less than traditional materials like asphalt shingles or clay tiles. This makes the installation process easier and faster, potentially saving you both time and money. Additionally, the lightweight nature of aluminum roofs puts less stress on the structure of your home, reducing the risk of structural damage over time.
Disadvantages of Aluminum Roofs
While aluminum roofs offer numerous advantages, they have their drawbacks. One of the main concerns with aluminum roofs is the potential for denting. Although aluminum is a highly durable material, it can be prone to denting if struck with sufficient force. While this may not be a major issue for most homeowners, those living in areas with frequent hailstorms or falling debris should consider this factor before opting for an aluminum roof.
Another disadvantage of aluminum roofs is their higher upfront cost compared to traditional materials. Aluminum is a premium material, and its higher price point can deter some homeowners from choosing it as their roofing option. However, it is important to consider the long-term cost savings that aluminum roofs offer due to their durability and energy efficiency. While the initial investment may be higher, you will likely recoup these costs over time through lower maintenance and energy bills.
Finally, customization options may be limited with aluminum roofs. While traditional materials like asphalt shingles or wood offer a wide range of colours, styles, and textures, aluminum roofs tend to have a more limited selection. However, many manufacturers now offer a variety of finishes and coatings to mimic the aesthetic appeal of traditional materials, giving homeowners more options to choose from.
Exploring Traditional Roofing Materials: Pros and Cons
Pros of Traditional Roofing Materials
Traditional roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles and wood, have been the go-to choice for homeowners for many years, and for good reason. One of the biggest advantages of traditional materials is their affordability. Compared to aluminum roofs, traditional materials tend to have a lower upfront cost, making them a more budget-friendly option for homeowners on a tight budget.
Another benefit of traditional materials is their wide range of customization options. Asphalt shingles, for example, come in various colors, styles, and textures, allowing homeowners to choose a look that complements their home's architecture and personal preferences. On the other hand, wood roofs offer a natural and rustic charm that appeals to many homeowners.
Additionally, traditional materials are generally easier to repair. In the event of damage or wear, individual shingles or sections of wood can be easily replaced without the need for a full roof replacement. This can save homeowners both time and money in the long run.
Cons of Traditional Roofing Materials
While traditional roofing materials have their advantages, they also come with certain drawbacks. One of the main disadvantages is their lack of durability compared to aluminum roofs. Asphalt shingles, for example, have a limited lifespan and may need to be replaced every 20-30 years, depending on the quality and maintenance. Wood roofs, although charming, require regular maintenance and may be susceptible to rot, mildew, and insect damage.
Another concern with traditional materials is their lower energy efficiency. Asphalt shingles, in particular, can absorb heat, leading to higher energy consumption for cooling purposes. This impacts your energy bills and contributes to environmental pollution by increasing your carbon footprint.
Lastly, aluminum roof may be more resistant to extreme weather conditions than traditional materials. High winds, heavy rain, and hail can cause more damage to asphalt shingles or wood roofs, requiring frequent repairs or replacements. This can be a significant inconvenience and expense for homeowners living in areas prone to severe weather events.
Durability and Longevity: A Comparison Between Aluminum and Traditional Roofs
When it comes to durability and longevity, aluminum roofs are the clear winner. As mentioned earlier, aluminum roofs are highly resistant to corrosion, cracking, and warping, making them incredibly durable even in harsh weather conditions. They are also less likely to suffer from issues like rot or insect damage, which can be common with wood roofs.
In terms of lifespan, aluminum roofs can last up to 50 years or more with proper maintenance. This is significantly longer than traditional materials like asphalt shingles or wood, which typically have a lifespan of 20-30 years. Choosing an aluminum roof lets you enjoy peace of mind knowing that your investment will stand the test of time.
On the other hand, traditional roofing materials may require more frequent repairs and replacements due to their lower durability. Asphalt shingles, for example, may need to be replaced every few decades, adding to the long-term costs. Although wood roofs can last for several decades with proper care, they require regular maintenance to prevent issues like rot or insect infestations.
Energy Efficiency: How Aluminum Roofs and Traditional Materials Differ
Energy efficiency is an important factor to consider when choosing a roofing material, as it directly impacts your energy bills and environmental footprint. Aluminum roofs excel in energy efficiency due to their reflective properties. They reflect a significant portion of the sun's heat, reducing heat absorption and keeping your home cooler. This can result in lower energy consumption for cooling purposes, especially in regions with hot climates.
On the other hand, traditional roofing materials like asphalt shingles or wood roofs can absorb and retain heat, making your home warmer and potentially increasing your energy bills. This is particularly noticeable during the summer when air conditioning is high. The increased energy consumption also contributes to your carbon footprint, negatively impacting the environment.
It's worth noting that some traditional materials, such as clay tiles or metal roofs, can offer better energy efficiency compared to asphalt shingles or wood. However, aluminum roofs still outperform them in terms of reflectivity and overall energy savings.
Maintenance and Repairs: The Ease of Maintaining Aluminum Roofs vs Traditional Materials
When it comes to maintenance and repairs, aluminum roofs require minimal upkeep compared to traditional materials. Their resistance to corrosion, cracking, and warping means that they are less prone to damage and deterioration. This translates to fewer repairs and lower maintenance costs over time.
Aluminum roofs are also easy to clean and maintain. Unlike wood roofs, they do not require regular treatments or coatings, which may need to be stained or sealed periodically. Additionally, aluminum roofs are less likely to accumulate debris or develop moss or mildew, making them easier to keep clean and looking their best.
Traditional roofing materials, on the other hand, may require more frequent maintenance and repairs. Asphalt shingles, for example, can become loose, cracked, or damaged over time, requiring individual shingles to be replaced. Wood roofs may need regular inspections and treatments to prevent issues like rot or insect infestations. These maintenance tasks can be time-consuming and costly, especially if you need to hire professionals for repairs.
Cost Considerations: Comparing the Upfront and Long-Term Costs of Aluminum Roofs and Traditional Materials
When it comes to cost considerations, it's essential to look beyond the upfront price tag and consider the long-term costs associated with each roofing material. While aluminum roofs may have a higher upfront cost compared to traditional materials, they offer significant long-term cost savings.
One of the main factors contributing to the higher upfront cost of aluminum roofs is the premium nature of the material itself. Aluminum is more expensive than asphalt shingles or wood, which are widely available and relatively affordable. However, it's crucial to consider the durability and longevity of aluminum roofs. With a lifespan of 50 years or more, you won't need to replace your roof as frequently as you would with traditional materials, saving you money in the long run.
Additionally, the energy efficiency of aluminum roofs can lead to substantial savings on your energy bills. Reducing heat absorption and keeping your home cooler can lower your cooling costs during the summer months. Over time, these energy savings can offset the higher upfront cost of an aluminum roof.
On the other hand, traditional roofing materials may have a lower upfront cost, making them a more affordable option for homeowners on a tight budget. However, it's important to consider the lifespan and maintenance costs associated with traditional materials. Asphalt shingles, for example, may need to be replaced every 20-30 years, adding to the long-term expenses. Wood roofs require regular maintenance and treatments to prevent issues like rot or insect damage, which can also increase the overall cost of ownership.
Environmental Impact: Analyzing the Sustainability of Aluminum Roofs and Traditional Materials
In today's environmentally-conscious world, the sustainability of roofing materials is a major consideration for many homeowners. Aluminum roofs have a notable advantage in this regard. Aluminum is a highly recyclable, and many aluminum roofs are made from recycled content. This reduces the demand for new raw materials and helps to conserve natural resources.
Furthermore, aluminum roofs are energy-efficient, as mentioned earlier. By reflecting a significant portion of the sun's heat, they reduce the need for excessive air conditioning usage, leading to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions. This contributes to a greener and more sustainable living environment.
Traditional roofing materials like asphalt shingles or wood have a larger environmental footprint. Asphalt shingles, for example, are petroleum-based and require significant energy and resources to produce. Additionally, the disposal of old shingles contributes to landfill waste. Although wood roofs are a natural material, they may involve harvesting old-growth forests, which can have adverse environmental impacts.
It's worth noting that some traditional materials, such as clay tiles or metal roofs, can also be sustainable choices. Clay tiles are made from natural clay and can be recycled at the end of their lifespan. Depending on the type of metal used, metal roofs can be highly recyclable. However, it's important to consider the overall sustainability of the manufacturing process, energy efficiency, and lifespan when evaluating the environmental impact of traditional materials.
Aesthetics and Customization Options: Which Roofing Material Offers More Design Flexibility?
Aesthetics play a significant role in the overall appeal of a home, and the choice of roofing material can greatly impact the visual appeal of your property. Traditional roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles or wood, offer a wide range of customization options, allowing homeowners to choose a look that complements their home's architectural style and personal preferences.
Asphalt shingles, for example, come in various colors, styles, and textures. Whether you prefer a classic, slate-like appearance or a more contemporary design, there is an abundance of options to choose from. Wood roofs offer a natural and rustic charm, enhancing the overall character of your home.
While aluminum roofs may have been limited in terms of aesthetics in the past, advancements in technology and manufacturing have expanded the customization options. Many manufacturers now offer aluminum roofs with finishes and coatings that mimic the appearance of traditional materials. This means that homeowners can enjoy the benefits of aluminum roofs while still achieving the desired aesthetic appeal.
It's important to note that personal preferences and the architectural style of your home will ultimately determine which roofing material is most suitable for you. Take time to consider the overall look and feel you want to achieve, and explore the range of options available for each material.
Choosing the Right Roofing Material for Your Specific Needs and Circumstances
Choosing the right roofing material for your home involves considering various factors and weighing the pros and cons of each option. To make an informed decision, assessing your specific needs and circumstances is essential.
If durability, longevity, and energy efficiency are your top priorities, aluminum roofs are an excellent choice. They offer exceptional resistance to harsh weather conditions, a lifespan of 50 years or more, and significant energy savings. Aluminum roofs are also ideal for homeowners who prioritize sustainability and want a recyclable and energy-efficient roofing material.
On the other hand, if upfront cost and a wide range of customization options are more important to you, traditional roofing materials like asphalt shingles or wood may be a better fit. They are generally more affordable, offer a variety of styles and colors, and can be easily customized to match your home's architecture and personal preferences.
Ultimately, the right choice will depend on your budget, desired aesthetic, durability requirements, and environmental considerations. It's recommended to consult with a professional roofing contractor who can assess your specific needs and provide expert advice tailored to your circumstances.

Top Flat Roof Repair Near Me: Expert Solutions for Your Roofing Needs
A flat roof is a common choice for many residential and commercial buildings due to its sleek design and functional benefits. However, like any roof, flat roofs are subject to wear and tear over time and may require repairs. If youâve noticed signs of damage such as leaks, cracks, or pooling water, itâs important to address the issue as soon as possible to avoid further complications.
In this comprehensive guide, weâll explore everything you need to know about flat roof repairs, including how to find the best flat roof repair near me, common problems with flat roofs, and how to maintain your roof to extend its lifespan.
Why Flat Roofs Need Regular Repairs
Unlike sloped roofs, flat roofs are more prone to certain types of damage, such as pooling water, punctures, and membrane deterioration. Regular repairs and maintenance are necessary to keep your flat roof in optimal condition and prevent costly damage to your property. If youâre seeing water stains on your ceiling, noticing puddles of water on the roof, or experiencing drafts inside, itâs a clear sign that your flat roof may require repairs.
Signs You Need Flat Roof Repair
Leaks or Water Damage: Water infiltration is one of the most common issues with flat roofs. Leaks can often occur around seams, flashing, or punctures in the membrane.
Pooling Water: Flat roofs are prone to water pooling, especially if there is improper drainage. Stagnant water can cause membrane deterioration over time.
Cracks or Blisters: The roofing material may start to crack or blister due to aging or extreme weather conditions. This leaves your roof vulnerable to leaks and further damage.
Visible Damage: A visual inspection of your flat roof may reveal damage, such as punctures or tears in the membrane.
Sagging: If the roofâs structure is sagging, it could be a sign of structural damage or water damage to the underlying layers.
How to Find Flat Roof Repair Services Near You
Finding reliable flat roof repair near me is crucial to ensuring a proper and lasting fix. Here are some tips to help you find the right contractor for the job:
Research Local Roofing Contractors: Search online for flat roof repair near me. Look for roofing companies that specialize in flat roofs, as this type of roofing requires specific expertise.
Read Reviews and Testimonials: Check online reviews, ratings, and testimonials from previous customers. This can help you gauge the reliability and quality of the contractorâs work.
Get Multiple Quotes: Itâs always a good idea to get quotes from several roofing companies before making a decision. This gives you an idea of the fair market price for the repair and allows you to compare services.
Verify Licensing and Insurance: Ensure that the contractor is licensed, insured, and bonded. This ensures that they are qualified and that youâre protected in case of accidents or damage during the repair.
Ask for Experience: Choose a contractor with extensive experience in flat roof repairs. They should be familiar with the specific challenges that flat roofs present and the best techniques to address them.
Request a Detailed Estimate: A reputable contractor should provide you with a detailed written estimate outlining the costs of labor, materials, and any additional services.
Common Flat Roof Repair Methods
When it comes to repairing flat roofs, there are several methods that professionals may use, depending on the severity of the damage:
Patch Repair: For minor issues such as small leaks or punctures, a patch repair may be sufficient. This involves applying a new layer of roofing material over the damaged area.
Coating: Applying a reflective coating over the roofâs surface can help extend its lifespan and improve waterproofing. This is often done as part of routine maintenance or to address minor surface damage.
Re-roofing: In cases of extensive damage, it may be necessary to replace the entire roof. Re-roofing involves removing the old roofing materials and installing new ones.
Maintenance Tips for Your Flat Roof
Proper maintenance can help you avoid costly repairs and prolong the life of your flat roof. Here are some maintenance tips to keep your roof in top shape:
Regular Inspections: Inspect your flat roof at least once a year, especially after extreme weather events like heavy rain or snowstorms.
Keep Drains Clear: Make sure the roofâs drainage system is free of debris to prevent water from pooling.
Address Small Issues Early: Fix minor issues such as leaks or cracks before they turn into larger, more expensive problems.
Apply Roof Coatings: Consider applying a protective coating to your roof every few years to help prevent wear and tear.
Conclusion
flat roof repair near me are essential to maintaining the structural integrity and safety of your building. If youâre experiencing issues with your flat roof, itâs crucial to address them promptly with the help of a professional roofing contractor. By following the tips outlined in this guide, you can find a reliable roofing service near you and ensure that your flat roof stays in great condition for years to come.
