Hair •\/• selection from a series shot during The Women’s March on Washington •\/• January 21 2017 •\/• I was awed (and at times overwhelmed haha) by the multitudes of humans that converged on DC that day. I’ve never seen or experienced that many people in one place for the same reason. That purpose allowed us to share something, so there was camaraderie in the chaos. As I moved along the ever changing and circuitous route of the March, sometimes within and sometimes without, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the beautiful array of colors and textures of everyone around me. It was a grey overcast day, sometimes drizzling, but that just made the people around me pop! The Things We Carry •\/• selection from a series shot during The Women’s March on Washington •\/• January 21 2017 •\/• Being a bag lady since childhood, I was immediately drawn to the clear bags in all their iterations. Some were homemade, while some were clearly purchased for the long haul of activism in the coming years. Getting a peek into someone else’s bag is intriguing because it allows one to glimpse another’s mind-set, thought process, and priorities. What do they value enough to carry all day and what do they think they need to get through the day? Transparent bags go a step farther, carrying clear during a protest conveys one’s intentions to be of the dedicated and mediating variety. It shows they’re willing to give up that bit of privacy to help promote safety and community during peaceful rallies and marches. It demonstrates a level of goodwill and openness toward others that is often harder to spot in a crowd.
