I haven’t been incredibly inspired as of late, but you know, its interesting how re-imagining someone else’s art can inspire you. Jazza has a contest going for people to redraw his art from when he was a kid, and I thought, yea, why not. The second image is Jazza’s art.

Drawing and coloring

This is an entry for a contest Jazza has on the go to redraw one of three pictures. I drew this one myself, and colored it with Ohuhu markers. Had a few challenges because as per my usual, I used the wrong paper (I used my drawing paper, which is meant for dry media).

The items held by the character in the original look more like weapons but one of them looked like a paintbrush, another was an aerosol can which could easily be spray paint, one could argue an axe and a hammer can be used for crafts, and I didn’t think I’d do well trying to draw a fierce character looking epic, so I went for friendly instead. He’s a friendly, artistic, hungry, heroic (he rescues cats from trees!) octoboi with 10 limbs (decaboi I guess). And he’s in a comic book.

Took a long ass time (almost a week) but I’m happy with the result! I couldn’t decide which coloration I like better.

While drawing I came up with an origin story for his character. He used to be human hunting monsters and other beasts until one faithful day his chase led him deep into a sewer system. While he managed to track and eventually slay the creature, he was bitten and as he felt the venom pulsing through his veins, he started mutating until he became the image of the very thing he had sworn to wipe out. Knowing he could never return, he prayed and swore an oath to not let his nature be corrupted as well - ever since he roams the sewers, led by his faith and determined to stay true to his profession.

This is my submission for Jazza's redraw challenge I wish I could've done the mechanical guy too but I got the date wrong and took to long to decide on a design but in the end I made something that I actually love and came up with on the fly ^-^ just goes to show that not everything has to be planned out it comes to you as you work ^-^

Redraw Jazza's Art: Things Get Weird

So I decided to enter Jazza’s #RedrawJazzasArt competition over on Twitter, and here’s my entry!
