Full page from Small Victories by Johanna Basford. Each image was done with Polychromos, the bottom two also have a bit of white gel pens.
I was playing with palettes on these.
The three on the left are palettes straight from a colour wheel, with Coloring Bliss’s tri-tone workbook helping me pick the pencils.
The three on the right were done with palettes from the Colour Catalogue by Sarah Renae Clark.
The last one (bottom right) was me stepping out of my comfort zone with using just one pencil for each of the colours on the palette instead of 3, and using pastel colours.

Trying New Techniques
Finished! Hard to believe I actually finished this one, it took quite a while. Really happy with it, I'm glad I tried out color palettes and pencils on top of markers. The metal isn't perfect, the clock is not as smooth as I wished, but overall? I'm happy.
The image is from Steampunk Designs by Marty Noble, in the Creative Haven Collection. I used Ohuhus Brush Tip markers and Faber Castell Polychromos, with a tiny bit of white gelly roll for a couple of highlights.

Sad Masquerade Girl
This is a free page by Jennifer Stay from Coloring Bliss on youtube. She has really good videos (and a very cute dog, just sayin') so I recommend checking her out!
I went conceptual with this one: the girl seemed serious to my own eyes compared to the masquerade mask and confetti background so I turned that up to 11 in my head and decided to color her sad.
For that, I aimed at using blues for her, but keeping a natural if pale skin tone, put some red around her eyes, and then I figured she was at a party, and probably trying to be festive or look like it, so she's wearing a mask that tries to look like it belongs, except it doesn't quite because it's very desaturated.
Yeah, I kind of went a bit weird here. LOL. But, I'm pretty happy with the results. This was speed coloring with Ohuhus, with cell shading but I can't resist a gradient so she has a gradient in her hair. I used a gel pen to lighten up and texture the yellow of the background, and I used a white pencil to make her paler than my marker set allows.
Oh, lesson learned! Shading with grey works even better than I thought because it doesn't desaturate nearly as much as I expected. I had to go over with grey a few times and finally use complimentary colors to desaturate the mask, flower and grapes. And the hair which was just TOO bright.

3 Markers Challenge
I did the three markers challenge, but cheated a bit. Instead of drawing the picture, I picked one drawn by someone else... specifically, it’s from Steampunk Design, a coloring book in the Creative Haven collection, drawn by Marty Noble.
I picked the picture before I randomly picked the colors, which are from a 72 Ohuhu set. I did remove the colorless blender and the black but otherwise picked randomly. I got an easy set, I think: very distinct color that offered a good array of mixes and weren’t too dark to layer well.
Tumblr media
And for the picture, I decided right off the bat they were aliens given I wouldn’t be able to give them human skin tones, and also decided the woman wasn’t going to be pink because... I’m contrary, I guess? :P
And here’s the result! I’m pretty happy with it, and I’ll probably do it again, or maybe do some limited palette colorings next.

I messed up the shading on her arms pretty bad but what are you going to do. Still overall pretty proud of the result.

More Zelda Art
My daughter has been obsessed with Zelda lately, and I’ve been mildly obsessed with it since...
*checks release date for A Link to the Past*
Never mind since when.
Anyway, we’ve both been coloring Zelda stuff a fair bit. Her more than me. I’ll probably post more of hers too because she’s very insistent that I do, but here are two of mine in the meantime!
As seen on the pictures themselves, I got the art from DragoArt.com and Timykids.com. More precisely, I got it from googling, but that’s where the source was. I don’t know if there is a more original source for them... if you know of any, please tell me and I’ll update the credit.
I colored them with Ohuhus, and tried to so cell shading style rather than blending everything as much as I could. I’m really happy with how they turned out. Done on copy paper again, which I think is why it looks like wet paper in spots. I really need to get some cardstock.

Guest Artist: My Daughter
This one was colored by my 7 year old daughter. It’s a picture of Midna from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, drawn by @FreyaHorn and posted with her permission (thank you!)
Tumblr media
The coloring artist is all about Zelda lately, and not to be biased or anything, but she’s amazing. :D

Drawing and coloring
This is an entry for a contest Jazza has on the go to redraw one of three pictures. I drew this one myself, and colored it with Ohuhu markers. Had a few challenges because as per my usual, I used the wrong paper (I used my drawing paper, which is meant for dry media).
Tumblr media
The items held by the character in the original look more like weapons but one of them looked like a paintbrush, another was an aerosol can which could easily be spray paint, one could argue an axe and a hammer can be used for crafts, and I didn’t think I’d do well trying to draw a fierce character looking epic, so I went for friendly instead. He’s a friendly, artistic, hungry, heroic (he rescues cats from trees!) octoboi with 10 limbs (decaboi I guess). And he’s in a comic book.

A Message to Demisexuals and Grey-asexuals
You are ace enough.
No matter what anyone tells you, there is a place for you at the table.
Your voice matters. We want to hear you talk with us about ace-related issues. We want to hear you talk about your experiences in the community.
We should all gather together as the family we are, whether demisexual, grey-asexual, or anywhere else under the ace umbrella.
Remember: You are loved.

Two quick ones for fun.
Rapunzel (name helpfully written by my daughter), on copy paper, the page is from a Disney Princess colouring book (it’s my daugther’s and I’m not allowed to colour directly in it...)
And
A page from Mermaids and other sea creatures by Camilla d’Errico.
Both are done with polychromos, with some chalk for the background for the mermaid.
