Four mind-blowing days discovering the magic of the #Hessequa Region, an area these days gaining recognition from adventurous travellers as the #ExplorersGardenRoute. Conservancies, nature reserves, thumping surf breaks, endless gravel roads, meandering rivers, quirky towns, larger-than-life characters ... Me and mate-from-way-back Mark Stuart ventured via @jakkalsvleiwines and #Heidelberg to the incredible #trails of Grootvadersbosch Conservancy, before tripping over the #Malgas pontoon to the coastal serenity of #Witsand. This watersport paradise is made for #SUP, #surf and all kinds of angling, with outstanding hospitality at #pilipili Restaurant 🙌🏻 @zaneschmahl pulled in just in time to experience the #jaegermeister excesses of #albertiniaddiction Hotel and the #KoringDraai Kroeg. Soos die locals sê: "Suip the Cape in Shape"... Ons het hittetitte heelhuids daar ontsnap ... Fortunately, a good T-bone steak, and some solid #outdoor action in the breathtaking @gourikwa Nature Reserve and #Gouritsmond restored our blood-alcohol levels to normal! This is a perfect playground to test out the @sawyersurfboards sticks, @giantlivrsa #mtb, @redpaddlesa #SUP, @fluidkayaks #DoItNow and the @frontrunnerza roof racks. And always great hooking up with legendary locals like @aileenoutside, @fleurvaneeden, @jantjiejonker, @hiryunel and the likes. Back state-side after a magical family road trip in the @isuzusa #Dmax Double-Cab exploring a small corner of southern #mozambique. So much to do and see here along the Calypso Coast, and what a privilege to be able to spend it with the Waterston Clan 🙏😊 Kev showed me a few of the #surf spots, including the legendary 'local' point break, and one day I hope to up my skills level to properly master these insane barrels. Steep learning curve on a way shorter board, but some seriously wicked waves nonetheless 🌊 Add languid locals, great seafood, a few beach runs with @maraiskaryn, happy free-range kids, warm water and spicy Portuguese peri-peri to the mix, and you've pretty much ticked all the boxes. Sea. Land. And loads of #oZone as we engage with the #mozambique Calypso coastline north of #PontaMalongane. Left-over #monsoon swell makes for insane #surf sessions, and an absolute jol as we explore the back roads in the @isuzusa Double-cab ... that #Dmax is certainly next level 🙌🏻 Shore breaks, free-range beaches, ocean breezes, the amazing @redpaddlesa #SUPs (we'll take them out as soon as the swell drops a couple of feet)!, snorkeling the reefs, and ice cold #dosm and #txilar beers ...
