Controversy Within This Community

The compliance with using terms like “masc” “fem/femme” “butch” etc. within the Lesbian community is a detriment to defining women.  

As shared in my last post, femininity should not be defined through behavior/participancy in something. That definition of it should cease to exist if we wish to abolish stereotypes/gender roles. Typically, “masc”/”butch” lesbians are what we should be aiming to define the image of a woman as. Free from participating in beauty duty, a desire to have strength, and wearing clothes that are comfortable and not objectifying. Labeling her as something we attribute to “masculinity” contributes to the notion that what we should attribute to “femininity” is something else. That femininity is regarded for women who are solely bound to the patriarchy’s definition of a woman (beauty object).

Abandoning these labels are the next step in redefining/rehumanizing the image of a woman. Labels, as we know, are regressive.
