DIDN'T WANNA FEEL OLD IN 2025? SUCKS TO BE YOU!
HEY THERE PEOPLE OF TODAY AND ROBOTS OF TOMORROW! IT'S ME, CLARK!
Y'know what's funny? All last year peeps kept liking my 'Didn't Wanna Feel Old' journal from 2023. One commenter said I should make a new one for 2024. Jee, ya' don't say? Guess you missed how that was already a thing. Was nobody interested in seeing what all reached a major milestone back in 2024? Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles, Transformers, they all celebrated their 40th Anniversary, Lion King had its 30th, a lot of cool stuff got that much older. Shame nobody seemed to notice. Ah well, maybe 2025 will be better. Especially when a certain someone is celebrating his own major milestone this year. When, exactly? Read to find out!

Marvel comics Sept. 2023 solicitations initial thoughts
The one I did for DC a few days ago was fun.
The JMS Cap sounds promising - like a lot of JMS stories - but I’m going to have wait until what the second issue solicit promises. And Saiz on art on a Cap book gives me a strange feeling of Deja Vu. A hard maybe.
This is Iron Man’s third engagement in how many years. The thing with the Wasp happened right? I hope I’m not lying to myself on that. I find it funny because I wanna see where it goes. I know certain Emma Frost fans are livid at this, but what else is new? Could be fun. I’ll remain curious.
Percy on Predator Vs. Wolverine is ideal, but the some of the artists mentioned are sus. Probably a no.
Avengers Inc by Ewing and Kirk sounds thrilling, but Vision being a main character kinda makes me think a soft maybe. Vision just doesn’t do anything for me as a concept or a character. He’s just old Pinocchio!
Ahmed and Kuder Daredevil: Yep! Yep! Yep!
The renaissance Venom has had since 2018 - the Venomsance if you will - is so odd to me. Good for the fans I guess. Never been a fan of Venom, except when Gargan was a Venom. I was a Marvel U reader at the time and it was interesting (to say the least.)
Immortal Thor is a probable yes, but that’s subject to change. Hard to articulate thoughts about it right now.
Nightcrawler is gonna be a Spider-Man for five issues. Okay. Let me know how that goes.
Uncanny Avengers. Skip.
Never been an Alpha Flight fan.
Children of the Vault feels like it’s a placeholder series that’s setting up for something after Fall of X. Nah.
Dark X-Men #1 had a very fun cover of the characters that will be in the series. Issue #2 has Madelyne fighting... Maggot?! I hate Maggot! Stupid!
Not a big Jean Grey fan.
I’ve read two Iceman series and it took me both to realized I’m not a Bobby Drake fan.
Realm of X feels like a Magik book in disguise.
Emma Frost/Tony Stark marriage is just funny.
X-Men Red seems to be a series I should be reading, but the solicits never do the series justice. Shame.
I am going to be getting X-Force starting with #43 because Quentin Quire is finally out of the book for now.
Fall of X being a “scattering” will play big here, and I think it could work.
I hate Classified being a way to sell books.
Wolverine is a maybe, but I’ll forget and probably trade-wait.
Weapons of Vengeance!!!!!!!
Should I be reading Ghost Rider?
Wake me when Ultimate Invasion has ramifications.
ROM and Micronauts Facsimile editions? Could be fun.
Contest of Chaos is something that could be fun, but also something that people remember sparingly years from now.
Oh, it’s just happening in the annuals! Bold. Seems to be the only one you need to get is the Avengers one to see who really wins. A new Darkhold? Didn’t that happen recently?
Why does ASM feel like it’s treading water? Like, what are you waiting for?
Tangential related Carnage and Spider books. No.
Miles fighting a speedster villains sounds fun. I am getting the Hobgoblin issue(s?) so I will wait and see how that story works out before committing myself to more issues.
All these miniseries! No!
The What If Carnage one-shot by Hama... MAYBE!
Not a Hulk fan, and I’m actually beginning to not like most Hulk fans I talk to. They are always unhappy.
Trade-waiting Avengers.
Lot of ongoings I am not really interested in.
Not getting the Scarlet Witch issue but I hope Loki and Wanda do start dating. That’ll be fun.
I’m gonna get Moon Knight because I’ve been enjoying it with Comixology. Wink!
I think I’m going to drop Dr. Strange because I don’t care for the art.
Star Wars! Same problems with the Hulk fans as above.
Did Planet of the Apes only get five issues.
Most of the questions posed in this post are rhetorical

Jason David Frank Tribute: Power Rangers Wild Force: Forever Red Review (patreon Sign ON Review for Brotoman.exe)
Tumblr media
In Loving Memory of Jason David Frank: 1979-2022
"May the Power Protect Him"
Like many around my generation, I met Jason David Frank one afternoon as a Teenager with Attidue. While any chlid worth his salt loved power rangers, it had teenagers in bright colored outfits beating up monsters in stock footage, what's not to love?, it really kicked into gear when a new kid kicked his way into town: Tommy Oliver, a cool new kid who swept Kimberly off her feat, actually beat big beefy lead boy Jason inc ombat, and then got brainwashed because of both of those things, becoming the rangers greatest threat as Rita made her own.. and then once freed of his mind control becoming the greatest one of them. Across three classic seasons, multiple returns, and another season down the line as a mentor to a new generation, Jason David Frank was THE Power Ranger.
Thus it was tragic that we lost him. My relatoinship with the franchise may of been "I watched the first five seasons as a kid, then dropped off, saw an episode or two then watched history of power rangers as an adult", but Jason always seemed like a nice guy who genuinely loved the franchise and us the fans. He was never too ashamed to step into bright spandex and his sudden death a few days ago was a blow to us all.
So it was a sad serendepity that this long scheduled patreon sign on review for my new friend and patreon Brotoman happened to end up on this week and he was more than happy to make it into a tribute to jason. And given Tommy is the most prominent red ranger besides Wild Force's own ranger in this episode, it was perfectly approraite.
For those either only casually familar with Power Rangers or familliar with the Zordon era but not so much what came after and if so I HIGHLY recommend Linkara's exaustive History of Power Rangers series on Youtube, but for now stick with this one: Wild Force was an end of an era as it was the final Power Rangers series aired on Fox Kids, before moving to ABC Kids (the former one Saturday Morning), and an era ender.
As such this episode, which is thankfully a standalone heavy on fanservice, serves as a nice caper. To celerbate the 10th anniversary, they got back ALMOST every red ranger. Rocky, the second red morphin ranger was absent. Why? He missed a phone call. No really, they didn't have the right phone number for him and by the time it was sorted out it was too late. And the galling thing is he was supposed to be just a backup for Austin St. John… which strikes me as odd given the aquatar ranger is right there. Just replace him. Still despite this it's a huge gathering of franchise faviorites.
The special was a bit rag tag, basing itself on a similar sentai special but using mostly new footage. It was INTENDED to both be an hour long special and have a much snappier climax.. but both things were shot down by new owners Disney wondering "Why are you spending so much time to promote old toys"
Tumblr media
But what we get is a fun, cheesy half hour ride through the franchises history up to that point. So come with me as we honor Jason David Frank and may the power protect us all as we look at Forever Red.
Forever Red opens on the Moon, where a bunch of robots from the Machine Empire dig up a giant robot dragon named serpentera entirely missing the moonlander colony Yup this is power rangers: cheesy as heck, but gloriously and unafraidly so. For those needing a refresher the Machine Empire were the main villians of season 2, a giant unstoaple machine army.. that translated to the usual "send a giant monster to get his ass kicked by teenagers" formula, but still were neat. So using a few spare suits from another bit of my childhood, whose title must be said in song as is in my contrast
youtube
Which was dope.. and far more insane than I remembered. Though the comic strip bit always bugs me anytime I listen to this. There.. two diffrent mediums guys. Their both some of my faviorite mediums, but come on.
They had some remnants of the empire surivive to ressurect serpentera, Lord Zed's giant murder dragon WMD who is on the moon because it was in the writer's fanfic.
Luckily for earth, Andros, the red space ranger, is there, in a cloak because he generally likes to cloak around when he's being sneaky even if it dosen't remotely work as camoflage here on a robot covered moon. He plans to go warn the others but accidently trips a rock and then gets CHASED ON HORSEBACK BY TWO OF THE MACHINE EMPIRE GUYS, whose names i'm not bothering to learn as they all have the same personality of
Tumblr media
But let's not bury the lead; TWO ROBOTS ARE CHASING AS SPACEMAN ON HORSES. I now want a full graphic novel from boom detaling why the machine empire has horses, what these majestic space horses can do, and why we never saw them again after scenes. I also applaud whoever was on set, saw they could get horses and decided "fuck it i'm going to have these big bad beetle borgs chase Andros on horseback". That person deserves a nobel for their contributions to humanity.
So we go to Bulk's poolside hangout spot, probably built where Ernies used to be, where he's regaling Skull with tales.. tales he was there for because they got into all kinds of weird shit together and tails he'll undoubtly pass on to Skull's own child when he raises him for a year as a samurai because he saw some power rangers do it and thought it'd be badass.
They get a call for Tommy, whose identity some cut stuff confirms they DO know now and it does make sense: it'd be easy to connect the dots from the space rangers unmasking in the finale of that series, to the guys who directly mentored them. Probably. Look I just like the idea they and tommy were friends. Tommy also has some very pointy frosted tips because clearly Jason tried out for Zoolander and didn't get the part and hadn't been able to wash them out when they filmed it.
We cut to.. wherever Wild Force is where Cole Evans, this series red ranger is picked up by Carter Grayson, Lightspeed Red Ranger and certified badass. How Carter does it is hilarious.. he just comes up to him in a park, says "are you the red wildforce ranger" and flashes his morpher like a badge to assure he's not some creepy weirdo who figured it all out.
Cole is also a lot. He looks like this
Tumblr media
He looks like he escaped from the set of Miami Connection and it is glorious. His actor.. less so. I'll comment on this so no one else brings it up: Cole's actor murdered a man with a replica conan the barbarian sword, pled guilty to it, and while he's served his sentence he's understandably not being invited back to any other series after he ran a man through with a sword. I brought it up to get it out of the way. Granted even if he hadn't commited murder, i'd still be making fun of this guy for his hammy acting, hilarously awesome bandanda, and sleeveless vest, all of which is both cheesily enjoyable and gloriously stupid, but the fact he ran a man through with a fully functional replica conan sword just makes it go down easier. I limited myself to one Jason David Frank's frosted Tips Joke since he just died and all, I gotta get my laughs where I can.
So Cole runs off with a stranger and alone
Tumblr media
And they meet at a Nasada warehouse where most of the other previous rangers show up: TJ from Turbo and In Space, Wes and Eric from Time Force (Whose quantum ranger was also red), and of course the king of all rangers, Tommy Olvier, former green and white mighty morphin ranger, red turbo ranger before TJ, future Black Dino Ranger and for this special Red Zeo ranger. Three are missing with Leo Corbett being later shown grabbing his sword that turns him into a ranger back, and picking up the Aquitian ranger because they had the costume so why not.
Tommy, naturally taking point as a living legend among the others as he damn well should be, has Andros fill them in: Serpentera is on the moon, the machines need to be stopped from using it to wipe out earth as it's that powerful and they got a fresh pack of triple a batteries for it, and he united all the red rangers and not every ranger he could get for such a mission.. because it was all Disney could afford and it gave them a badass looking group theme regardless of how many diffrent teams are represented. They plan to blast off in a recreation of the astro megaship, but their one short…. until Jason, the old son of a bitch rides up on his motorcycle. I planned to make the joke that we were just one handclap shy of the "you son of a bitch" scene from predator.. only for him and Tommy to FUCKING do it. I love this gloriously stupid franchise, bless you writers for just going ahead and doing it.
So our heroes head to the moon, and meet up with the other two and we get a truly badass sequence of EVERY ranger present having some morphing time as we get EVERY morph sequence. I'm convinced a good chunk of the budget went into this and it. was. worth. it.
What follows is about 5 minutes of awesome fight scenes. We get Jason and Cole back to back and they get the most actual character interactoin: there was more planned but you know
Tumblr media
With Jason chiding the rookie.. but also clearly mentoring him a bit: sure he's ribbing the guy a tad, but after saving his ass gladly lets him get some shots in and fights along side him. He may give the rookie crap as he's going through some things while his actor goes through some criminal charges, but their both rangers through and through and he knows that.
We also get cool swordfight with thankfully not coll, but TJ and Leo, as well as a fun gun fight with Carter and one of the time force rangers. It's a solid bit of power rangers action. We also got an unmorphed fight I almost forgot about earlier that just.. kinda happened so fair enough me. I saved the best for last though as Tommy kicks off the fight.. literally by SUPER KICKING ONE OF THE MACHINE EMPIRE SO HARD HE EXPLODES. If anything summed up Jasons glorious long tenure with the franchise, it's Tommy Oliver super kicking a robot to death. That or him kicking Goldar while scremaing "out of your mind!".. which I couldn't find a clip or gif of.
The finale.. is infamously stupid. Like I said they wanted to maybe break out some zords, the astromegazord.. something.. instead to promote a toy Cole flies into serperntera, gets a zenkai boost or somethinga nd blows the fucker up. It's hliariously dumb to see Beef McLargehuge do this.. but kind of an antic climax after some really good fight coregraphy that showed off the various rangers skill sets.
Still the ending is nice as Tommy literally walks off into the sunset, Cole rightfully calls him the greatest ranger ever, and we get a fun scene of the other rangers piping in all the insane shit they did caping off this episode.
Forever Red is a nicely paced anniversary showcase, throwing in everything from nasada, to the machine empire to serpentera. Even Alpha gets a cameo and my boy Richard Steve Horvitz gets a paycheck. It's a loveletter to power rangers and while cheesy as hell, it's in the best way possible. Wethere your familiar with the franchise or not, it's a fun, bonkers 20 minutes of action, heart, and tommy oliver being badass. If you can think of a better way to honor jason than watching him do a predator handclasp and super kick robots ont he moon.. there probably is , but this is certainly one of the best. May the power protect you jason…

My gift for the hilarious @ladytyburn for the Nagato Birthday gift exchange! Expanding again on her office AU (this is why Kisame has been un-fished a bit YES it felt wrong but I'm strong)
[Image ID: A three page digital comic about Nagato's birthday.
On the first panel, Konan seems to be thinking hard, a cup of coffee in her hand, Itachi stands next to her and asks: "What's wrong Konan?" She explains: "It's Nagato's birthday on Tuesday... And I don't know what to get him..." Itachi innocently answers, thinking about old Madara: "Oh I know the struggle, I never know what to get my grandpa. Old people haha." She put a hand on his shoulder, and tell him through gritted teeth: "Itachi... Nagato is 35." Itachi is very embarrassed and apologizes. Before he can add anything he's interrupted by Deidara who put his hand on Itachi's shoulder, saying to Konan: "You could buy me art!" She asks: "Can you guarantee it won't explode?" to which he answers: "Nope!" so she dismiss the idea. Hidan includes himself in the conversation, suggesting: "Easy! Buy yourself lingerie and surprise him!" Deidara and Itachi are mortified, scolding him: "Hidan! That's so inappropriate! And you can't theorize about the boss' private life!" Konan dismiss the idea, unphased: "Nah I already have enough and picked one already for that night." Itachi is even more mortified, feeling like this is Too Much Info. Sasori chimes in holding a doll still in her box, suggesting it for the present, but Konan dismiss it as well. She says: "I want something truly special. More personal-" Sasori attempt to chime in again, saying: "A you shaped doll-" but she angrily dismiss him again, pushing him down with her hand. Kisame tells her wisely: "You know him the best, Konan. Trust yourself. Pick something that will make you think of him."
On the next page, Konan is out of the office, wearing casual clothes with a small green backpack and wanders what seems to be a mall, still upset and thinking: "... Something that will make me think of him..." Her attention is caught by something and she smiles at last, saying: "Oh! This is!..." On the next panel she holds a book over her head triumphantly, exclaiming: "Our old teach's new book!! Yes! This is perfect!! He loved the first one!" She is standing next to a book display with a poster of Jiraiya in a funny pose and goofy expression, the poster reads: "New! By 'best seller' '''author''' Jiraiya." On the next panel, time has past and it is now Nagato's birthday. He is late at work, just closing his laptop, appearing tired and saying: "-Sigh- It's already 7 pm. I didn't see time pass by... Again... Time to go home." But as he comes out of his office on his wheelchair (wearing his coat and froggie slippers), he is surprised by loud exclamations and the pop of multiple party horns and confetti thrower. His employees yells: "Happy birthday boss!!" While he looks horrified and genuinely scared.
On the next panel, the office is all prepped for a party, a tablet is set up with Zetsu the plant (wearing a bowtie), a cake and a bottle of champagne. Hidan is holding balloons and is yelling, pointing at the table: "We even got you a cake!" A banner hanging on the wall reads: "Happy 635th birthday!" Deidara is screaming: "I got fireworks!" holding one up in the air. On the side, Kakuzu is sleeping on an office chair next to a table with a cup on it. A caption reads: "was drugged to avoid a money tantrum." Nagato is all confused, hair disheveled by the shock. Konan is standing in the middle, holding her present, looking all embarrassed, she tells him: "I'm so sorry, I didn't know they'd do this..." She then give him the present, watching him unwrap it with a soft smile, reminiscing a dear memory of their teacher putting his hands on their head when they were kids, Nagato holding his book preciously. She says: "I took Kisame's advice and picked something that made me think of us... I think you'll love it." The background behind her is made of grey and pinkish roses. But when Nagato unwraps the book he totally misses the author name and is instead shocked to read the big warning in the corner: "R18, this is porn." He turns red and sit shocked and confused with the book in his hands. The background behind him is a collage of ahegaos (I'm sorry). Konan put her hands next to her face, smiling wide and asking: "So... Do you like it?" Next to her is a caption pointing at her: "Genuinely did not check." She looks so happy but Nagato is still red and confused, he doesn't want to offend her and ruin her happiness so he answers: "Y-yes thank you." Everyone in the room (even the plant) looks at him with a knowing naughty smile as he gets even more embarrassed, Nagato frowns wondering: "Why in front of everyone!" /.End ID]

Comic Design Notes
I just wanted to share the bits and bobs of DB lore that I injected into this comic because I’m quite proud/happy with it!
You miiiiight need to read my notes on Word/Zulay’s BG first here.
First panel is of course taken from this illustration of Sun City! Paynn Inc is mentioned to be built from all the way down in Down City, spanning all the way up into Sun City.
Tumblr media
It’s also canon that Paynn Inc tower is the tallest! Lmao at the egotistical power couple. But also, at this stage in their lives and young Moordryd’s early beginnings, Word and Zulay were at the height of their lives, literally and figuratively, until tragedy struck.
Second panel is of course, Paynn Inc tower itself. I had to design the pinnacle myself, based off what we get shown in canon. The other reference to moons is to Draconis’ two moons, Drakkus and Abandonn. Weather references to Sun City refer to how there’s proper sunlight there and an actual night sky when the sun sets. Meanwhile Down City and the lower levels are always in the dark. With Shadow Town and Work Town above it, the only “sky” you’d have would be the smog and ember of factories.
Tumblr media
Third page features from left to right: Gear, All City Races, Word/Zulay’s marriage, Zulay’s leadership in the DEs. First panel includes some red thruster gear and I think one of the mines. Second panel is Zulay’s dragon, that I designed, named Addyr. I hold onto the HC that Word was never a renown racer because he got kicked out, like he said.
Tumblr media
Fourth page feature’s Word’s new crown and hands. Crown is HCed to be hearing aides post losing his hearing to the explosion that killed Zulay. His fingers are canonically destroyed in the process. 32km from the ground refers to how tall Dragon City is from Old City.
Tumblr media
Page five is just a view of Sun City. Page six features a snippet of Old City’s ruins/the Wastelands, which is the very bottom of Dragon City ofc. I added little Star Flowers which are found there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing much to say about the following pages besides general comic art to hit home that Moord is both Word and Zulay’s child borne out of love, and genuinely wanting to start a family. Page 9 is filling Moordryd’s room with a looooot of Dragon City themed baby toys and crib. They were stinking rich evil overlords with a literal castle spanning several kilometers. If Word didn’t spend every expense for his son, then Zulay would’ve. There are some itty bitty references to the Down City Crews and Dragons there but this little bit is my favourite haha. Evil but extremely happy family ;u;
Tumblr media
Last page features a Decepshun Plushie. She’s said to be Zulay’s dragon, which I like to interpret to mean a dragon bred and gifted to Moordryd. Wouldn’t be far off to also have a plushie of her made, until the kid can actually handle baby Decepshun.

PD Character: John Carter of Mars
Tumblr media
Written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter was a veteran of the american civil war who was transported to the planet Mars or Barsoom as it was called in the books after fleeing from a group of Apache Indians hid inside a sacred cave and there was transported to Mars (Barsoom). On the planet Barsoom John Carter discovers that he has great strength and superhuman agility thanks to the lesser gravity of the planet.  On the planet he encounters Green Martians or Tharks who are six limbed giant warlike inhabitants, the Red Martians who rule Helium the capital of the Barsoom and the Red Martian Princess, Dejah Thoris princess and daughter of Mors Kajak as well as a few other characters over the course of the series of books.
Tumblr media
The original publication of  A Princess of Mars was a Serialization under  the title"Under the Moons of Mars" in The All-Story, February 1912 and was first published as a book under the new title "A Princess of Mars" on October 10 1917 with illustrations (I'll be posted those later) by Frank E. Schoonover. John Carter was the lead character in the first three books, (Gods of Mars, Swords of Mars) and from the 10th to the final book (Llana of Gathol 1948, John Carter of Mars 1964).
John Carter and all the characters who appear in his tales (from the first book to the fourth currently) are Public Domain according to their date of publishing (pre 1924 are public domain) in the United States and the European Union as of 2020 so you are free to use any of the characters that appear in those early four stories but there comes the problem of Burroughs Inc.
Tumblr media
Burroughs Inc are known litigators they will fight tooth and nail to avoid something being made that they do not profit from or have some including a recent case (2012) when they sued Dynamite comics for trademark infringement when Dynamite began to adapt the early novels into comic books called “Warlord of Mars”. Important to note they were claiming trademark infringement and not copyright violation in the US court because the earliest books are PD. Sadly instead of fighting it out in court Dynamite caved and signed a licensing agreement and the case went away.
That doesn’t mean that the characters aren’t Public Domain. If you decide to take a shot at rewriting, adapting or reprinting the originals you will not doubt get a cease and desist letter from ERB inc. but don’t let that fool you while I am not a lawyer they do not have any rights to the original four books but will pretend they do.
Remember this post is about the original books and not anything that came out or was published post 1924. Over the course of the next few years each subsequent Barsoom book will fall into the public domain and as I’ve explained before Trademark law doesn’t stop you from using a character in the public domain you just have to stand strong and maybe consider hiring a lawyer.

Lost in Space 17
Hello, Isolans! We have conducted an activity check for the month of January!
If your character isn’t on this list, make sure to check this page to see how many stars that character has earned this month! Stars can be used for purchases at the marketplace.
The blogs that were removed from the Isola Radiale masterlist are under the cut. Note that both blogs with broken links and deactivated accounts will be included both at the top of this list and in their proper categories.
If you were removed in error, please simply send a re-application message. Several different people work on the activity checks, so it’s possible there are mistakes! If this happens to you, you will be able to keep everything you previously had, you just may be placed in a different residence.
Our general activity rules regarding checks are as follows:
Make at least three in-character posts during a calendar month (for instance, if the activity check is for January, have three in-character posts between the 1st and 31st of January).
Only one drabble and/or meme response of 300+ words counts as activity.
One-liners or minis not tagged #isola mini also do not count.
Please Note: If you are removed during two consecutive activity checks, you will not be allowed to re-apply as that character for two calendar months.
Additionally, anyone removed during the activity check will have a 12-hour window from the time of posting to re-claim their character. Any character not reclaimed during that period will be open to the community at large.
Please send in your reapplications from the account of the character that was removed.
