红毹 (hóng shū) —> (红 = red ) + 氍毹 (qú shū), type of patterned wool cloth/carpet, traditional Chinese theatre is often performed on carpets, thus 氍毹 or 红氍毹 often means “stage” (zdic)

Oh, according to MyJewishLearning, “A cantor — hazzan (חזן) in Hebrew — is the person who chants worship services in the synagogue. Though the word is sometimes applied in a general way to anyone who leads services, it is more commonly used to denote someone who has completed professional musical training and been ordained as a cantor.”

Conversely, maybe 领唱 is HoYoverse’s way of saying “prima donna” which the Cambridge dictionary defines as “the most important female singer in an opera company” (a description fitting Furina)

prima donna is 首席女歌手 in Chinese (Cambridge) but its five characters wouldn’t fit the TCG’s eight-character restriction if the first part should only use four characters total…

chanson: “various eras of French song, from the monophonic chant of the Middle Ages to the polyphonic singing of the Renaissance. Modern chanson music connects nineteenth-century cabaret music in Paris to contemporary pop music” (MasterClass)

(In French “chanson” means song but as a borrowed word in English, the Chinese term for it is 香頌)(from Chinese article talking about French chanson on Gmw.cn)

rondeaux (plural), rondeau (singular): three-stanza poem of French origin, mainly octosyllabic, 10-15 lines (Poetry Foundation). (Chinese term: 回旋诗. From the online French-to Chinese dictionary frdic)

…where’s the 圆舞 part…? Why change the dance imagery to another poetic form when dance is one of Furina’s motifs?

华尔兹: waltz, the music specifically. (Baidu Baike)

Meaning, the one in Furina’s card likely refers to a dance? (considering they took out the 曲 character which does mean “song”)

I didn't plan it like this, but Bebe's caricature showcase just so happens to coincide on my schedule with Cabaret's opening night. So while she's glamming it up on the red carpet and readying for her soon-to-be-Tony-nominated performance, allow me to present beloved Diva Bebe Neuwirth in Caricature.

By 1986, Bebe had a Tony Award and a solo Hirschfeld drawing to her name, and by 1997, she had another Tony and three more Hirschfelds from both stage and screen work. Hirschfeld had a sprawling collection of art not limited just to Broadway. And of course, the feature Hirschfeld most prominently exaggerated (though not by much) were her award-winning gams.

Bebe's Sardis portrait is, of course, her in character as Velma Kelly in Chicago. The style of her caricature seemed to bridge the change between the old-school exaggeration and comic features that made the drawings so distinctive, and the blander, homogenous styles of today. Bebe's portrait came a few years before the true shift began, and frankly, she's better off for it.

I've neglected to mention it so far, but each Squigs trading card comes equipped with a little "fun fact" section on the back. Most cards include a few biographical points, show credits, and a special "did you know?" With Bebe's return to Broadway this season, we can only hope we'll get another Squigs illustration to add to the list.

It's Gallery Time Again!

OoC Information: THIS IS NOT AN IN-GAME EVENT! This is meant as just something fun to headcanon for your character (and write about if you like - especially with @daily-writing-challenge starting on the 26th), if it is something they are able to attend! If you do choose to write any stories about this, please feel free to tag me - @vixannya - in the body of the post and use the tag #7deadlysins!

Vixannya owns an art gallery in Dalaran where she hosts various art exhibitions throughout the year. Two or three times a year, she will display her own work which is always accompanied by a massive grand opening and follow-up afterparty in another location.

Invitations are always given to those who make large contributions to the gallery and to the arts in general, as well as to prominent families from all over, friends, fellow Tarts, and those depicted in her work.

VIP access goes to the largest contributors, her muses, and anyone who purchases one of the pieces from the gallery on opening night. Even if your character cannot attend the grand opening and afterparty, the gallery is open to the public for a month! !Adults only!

Her final exhibition of the year is:

The red carpet treatment always marks the entrance of the gallery,  a place for the guests to show off and be photographed in their designer gowns and suits, or whatever else they choose to wear. The fashion seen here always rivals that of the city’s grandest galas, just don’t upstage the art!

A group of master illusionists have transformed both the inside of the gallery and the afterparty space, with the various rooms mirroring themes in their separate locations. The themes: Pride, Gluttony, Sloth, Greed, Wrath, Envy, and Lust. The gallery version of each space is a little more simplified than that of the afterparty, in order to feature the art over all else.

The art itself has a single or multiple subjects, each containing one of the sins in some manner. There are 45 pieces in total; most small or medium size with at least one larger piece in each section. All of the paintings fall within her main area of focus, the one she has become well-known for, Death. All paintings are premonitions of how her living muses will die, according to her. Many of which, in the past, have shockingly come true.

The After Party:

While most of her after parties consist of four very different spaces that match the theme of the gallery itself, this one has SEVEN different spaces to each represent one of the deadly sins.

Pride, Gluttony, Sloth, Greed, and Wrath are the ‘safe’ areas! While drinking and drugs are acceptable everywhere, the lewd acts are reserved for the last two sets of locations.

Envy and Lust are the ‘anything goes WITH CONSENT’ areas.

PRIDE: Grand ballroom with a large dance floor, orchestra playing classical music, champagne towers, large chandeliers, waiters at your beck and call.

GLUTTONY: Massive buffets, fine sit down dining, bars with every type of alcohol (and drug) available.

SLOTH: Massages, saunas, facials, mani/pedis, large hot tubs, any other type of spa service, quiet and nap rooms.

GREED: High stakes poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, jazz musicians and singers.

WRATH: Various popular rock/metal bands and mosh pits to begin the party. DJs playing EDM, raving, neon lights to close out the party. 'Rage rooms' in the back for people to go ham breaking all variety of things!

@tristennedarkmorn can be found performing on lead guitar with one of the metal bands!

ENVY: Cabaret and burlesque performers, aerialists, body shots, live peep shows featuring singles, doubles, or more - with the opportunity to become a part of a peep show.

@rylandfalkov can be found performing in this area mostly on stage, occasionally in the peep show!

LUST: Escorts available, BDSM demonstrations and experiences, private or group rooms, open spaces where anything goes! Masks available for anonymity.

What did he even do

he was pure of heart, dumb of ass <3

Like you're introduced to him in the remake because he's a talkative dude who almost spilled secrets about Avalanche's whereabouts to the cops. Cloud almost killed him to be sure he wouldn't keep spilling them, and Tifa stopped him in time for Cloud to just threaten him into leaving Sector 7.

So you find him back when you go to Wall Market as he's trying desperately to enter the Honey Bee Inn, all while talking about how he's here to "release his impulses".

Upon meeting him there, Cloud will ask him if he knows where Tifa is. It will lead Johnny on a ramble about how obviously Tifa was heartbroken that he left town and is now doing something stupid to try to fill the void of his absence.

So next you see him, he catches you as you leave Corneo's house when you first go there, as he tells you that to save Tifa, they have to impress the Trio. Next you see him it's because each members of the Trio threw him out on the street when he came begging.

Then you have to go to the Arena to fight for Madam M, and you meet him, learning he tried to enter the Arena fight but was beaten up so badly he's never been more scared for his life (he says, to Cloud, who tried to kill him the previous day). He also tells Cloud to use some drugs if he's going into the Arena.

Once you leave Aerith with Madam M and gets to "discover about Wall Market's life", Johnny will branch in a series of sidequests depending on your choices in Wall Market. Personally it means i had to spend a whole quest with him to retrive the VIP pass to the Honey Bee Inn an old man lost, and to get it back i had to find The Juice for a man, eat some place that gave Johnny food poisoning, and then you have to do sidequests to get him some medication. All of that for at the end of it, Johnny stays with the old man to discuss fashion with him.

He will reappear as you try to register Aerith as a possible wife for Corneo, and will run to fetch Aerith for you, and depending on the dress Madam M put on Aerith, will go through various effort to show her off -- with her "most beautiful" dress, he runs around in town to unroll a red carpet in front of her to present her in front of Cloud while throwing petals around her when she walks.

This is the last you see of him in Wall Market, though i must mention you can talk to Johnny's parents multiple times too as they brag about how cool their cringefail son is and talking about bringing him back his comfort pillow. Oh and he is obsessed with calling Cloud "bro" despite Cloud threatening him multiple times so he stops.

the next time you see him is after the fall of the plate that destroyed Sector 7, as he's basically been pickpocketed at the train station trying to leave town, and you get to get his wallet back for him by doing some convoluted quests. you can also not give him his wallet back.

And that's when you get the trophy.

The kicker?

In the Original Game, Johnny just happens to be one of the only named NPC and his parents are also here to talk about him getting into trouble. But the only time you properly run into Johnny in the original game is when Aerith scams him in front of the Honey Bee Inn by asking him to buy a single flower from her at 100000gils, and he seriously considers it.

That's it. that's all you know of Johnny in the original.

Now, mind you, i think everything they wrote around him in the remake makes perfect sense for a man who was thirsting for the cabaret and willing to pay 100000gils he didn't have just so he could flirt with a pretty girl.

but so here was Johnny. The trainwreck of a man.

I'll miss him. (or not.)

There was a constant need to unwind and very few instances to do so. Arlo had somehow managed to free himself a Thursday night and at the notice of a show in a nearby cabaret, he decided to attend. Red lights and mahogany carpet received him. The doctor took no time to ask for a drink before the show started and signaled to keep them coming throughout the performance — whatever it would be.

Ah, but if stares were daggers, the dancer would have been rushed away already. It took him a moment as he felt himself hallucinating from the lights, the smoke and the alcohol, but no, his eyes didn't deceive him. Arlo leaned forward to focus his attention entirely on the woman; one he had met years ago in a past long dead and buried.

He got up way before the show was done and sneaking a bribe or two, managed to make way into the dressing room that belonged to her. The fabrics and clothes that there waited seemed so different from the silks and pastels back at the academy and the realization that she too had fully renounced to her dream brought some sadness to him. Arlo sat down on the chair in front of the mirror and inspected the lipstick shades lazily as he waited for her to arrive.

Jason Om and Catherine Alcorn to host NSW's Honour Awards

ABC journalist Jason Om and cabaret superstar Catherine Alcorn have been named as the hosts of this year’s Honour Awards, celebrating dedication and achievement within the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW.

“I’m flattered and excited to be called into action again,” the Walkley-winning reporter with the ABC’s 730 program said.

“Hosting last year was a blast, and I always have a fun time at the Awards, so I couldn’t say no. It’s a nice feeling to be welcomed back.”

 Om said the Honour Awards provides the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW an opportunity to come together in the face of increasing hostility from wider society.

“I think this year has been tough for our community, we all felt it, so events like the Honour Awards are a chance for us to look back and reflect but also to pull together and find joy in what we have managed to achieve despite the odds,” Om said.

“Most of all it’s a celebration of who we are, and of those in our community who have made a difference.”

Headlining the awards is showbiz extraordinaire Catherine Alcorn.

A renowned entertainer, starring in shows including The Divine Miss Bette, Ladies Who Lunch, and The Summer of Judy, she will soon grace the Sydney Fringe Festival stage alongside iOTA and Verushka Darling in Bangers & Mash at the Emerald Room.   

“As always, I am so excited to be performing at the Honour Awards and to be part of this fabulous celebration of diversity and community,” Alcorn said.

Also on the line-up is DJ Kate Monroe, and Sydney drag star Charisma Belle, who will be hosting the Red Carpet.

The pair will also be joined a host of presenters comprising leading lights from within the community.

ACON CEO Nicolas Parkhill expressed his thanks to all the performers and artists taking part in the 2024 Honour Awards. 

“We are so grateful for the support of the many artists and performers that light up Honour each year, and this year’s line-up is full of fabulous and talented ACON friends and allies,” Parkhill said.

“Thank you to Jason, Catherine, Kate and Charisma and all the other entertainers for bringing so much joy, pizazz and flair to this year’s Honour Awards.

“Honour is all about celebrating our communities and raising much-needed funds for vital health initiatives to improve LGBTQ health. I look forward to see you at the 2024 Honour Awards.”

First held in 2007, the Honour Awards celebrate outstanding service and achievements within the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW. It’s also a fundraising event with a charity auction for ACON, NSW’s leading HIV and LGBTQ health organisation.

Over 400 guests will descend at Doltone House Hyde Park in Sydney on Wednesday 18 September to recognise the efforts of over 30 finalists across 10 categories.
