Spooky Video Game Music No. 332: SVC Poem of Hell (Hell Stage)- SNK Vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos (Arcade/PS2/PS4/Xbox/Switch/PC/Steam)

In this crossover fighting game from SNK and Capcom, Athena from the arcade game Athena and Red Arremer from Ghosts & Goblins decided to make a fighting tournament where characters from both companies fight it out. Depending on certain conditions, there can be a chance of fighting one of the two owners of the tournament. When you face Athena, you battle her in a heavenly world where clouds are everywhere and angels watch the fight. When you face Red Arremer, it’s a different story. You fight him in a hellish arena where a red spiral portal covers the sky. Dead trees and tombstones are everywhere and if that’s not enough, there are red faces on the floor as well. Man, talk about a very creepy place for Red Arremer to find home. Hope you’re prepared for the fight of your life…

While it’s not a long song, holy hell (no pun intended) is this unsettling. The song having loud winds and a siren playing in the background really sets off the lifelessness of this stage. Later on, the song goes on a funky beat, adding to the insanity and darkness of the song, fitting with how hard Red Arremer really is. Yet even with that, it still sounds ominous and foreboding, fitting with the fight in hand. It’s quite the opposite with Gehenna from Skullgirls (which we covered back in 2018 as No. 131) which that song is more slow and scary while this one is more funkier yet ominous. Wonder if Red Arremer ever listens to this without being scared. 🎃

I've found a treasure trove of old fighting game manhua scans and I have become kind of obsessed with them. I'm not sure of how official they are 100% but I know the SVC Chaos one got an official english published release, so that's gotta count for something. Through reading and obsessing over them, I found out their contents can get quite bizarre. The events on this poll specifically (sans the one i made up) are from both of the Capcom vs SNK manhuas and the SVC Chaos manhua

Pix'n Love Games has now shared a first look at the Collector's Edition and Deluxe Edition of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos.

The Collector's Edition is limited to 1000 copies for Switch and PS4, and includes a copy of the game, reversible cover, an official Neo Geo case, 64-page artbook, 3 lithographs, and original soundtrack with digifile.

The Deluxe Edition includes all of this as well as a special reproduction of an illustration created by artist Eisuke Ogura on an aluminum plate. There'll be just 100 copies of these Deluxe Edition, with pre-orders scheduled to go live this week on 25th July 2024.

SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos arrived on the Switch eShop earlier this week, but if you would prefer a hard copy of this 2003 fighting crossover, you're in luck. The European distributor Pix'n Love Games and Limited Run Games in the US will both be offering physical versions for the Nintendo Switch.

Limited Run will have more details to share about its version soon, and Pix'n Love has already teased its release (which comes in three variants: standard, collector's, and deluxe) with pre-orders opening tomorrow on 25th July 2024: It has a reversible cover, too.
