Mattoni 1873 mineral water brand installs complete canning line from KHS
Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic is one of the best known and most traditional spa towns in the world. The healing properties of its springs have been exploited since the 15th century. During its boom in the 19th and early 20th centuries, together with towns such as Baden-Baden in Germany and Montecatini Terme in Italy what was then known as Carlsbad was a popular destination for the traveling and spa society of Europe. With their grand architecture and dazzling social and cultural events, these locations were key milestones in the early development of global tourism. It’s not without good reason, then, that in 2021 Karlovy Vary was made one of UNESCO’s eleven Great Spa Towns of Europe.
One of the spa’s most famous citizens was Heinrich Mattoni, who in 1873 laid the foundations for the mineral water spring named after him when he purchased the little spa town of Kyselka situated around ten kilometers downstream on the River Ohře. Mattoni even had a separate railroad laid for the distribution of his water and by 1898 he was already selling approximately eight million bottles a year, all adorned with a label sporting the red eagle from his family coat of arms. The entrepreneur was subsequently made a peer by the Austrian emperor for his services.
Under the ownership of the Pasquale family from Italy since 1991, Mattoni 1873, as the brand is now called, is the largest distributor of soft drinks in Central Europe, with production sites in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria and Serbia. The company attaches a great deal of importance to tradition: in Kyselka alone, three crumbling buildings have now been lovingly restored with great attention to detail and according to the guidelines regarding the preservation of historic monuments. One of them houses the Mattoni Museum. Another, Hotel Praha dating back to the 19th century, is now used as offices for the company’s IT department. In the same way that Mattoni 1873 has married old with new here, the enterprise presents itself in an extremely modern light while remaining loyal to its history, investing over €40 million in state-of-the-art technology for its various plants in the last three years alone.
Entrepreneur and NMWE president
The most recent acquisition is a turnkey canning line from KHS, on which mineral water is being filled into recyclable beverage cans for the very first time in the Czech Republic. Moreover, these are already made of around 70% recycled aluminum. “Our new, ultramodern system adds the final container category to our portfolio that has been lacking to date,” smiles executive president and company founder Alessandro Pasquale. “We can now supply the market for non-alcoholic beverages with all styles of beverage packaging. And we’re now also in the position to supply our home market with beverages from the licensed Pepsi portfolio more easily, whose canned products we previously had to bring in from outside the country.” Pasquale not only runs the family firm; he’s also the president of Natural Mineral Waters Europe or NMWE. In this capacity he not only wishes to make the Czech beverage industry circular and sustainable but also that of the entire European Union.
In addition to an Innofill Can C can filler with an output of up to 20,000 containers per hour, the new KHS line includes a palletizer and a depalletizer, a blending system, a tunnel pasteurizer and two shrink packers with and without trays. “All told, up to twelve different formats and a huge variety of products are processed on our machines,” says Lubomir Neubauer, area sales manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia at KHS. “We’ve thus configured the system so that it gives the customer maximum flexibility. The Innofill Can C especially that, unlike the high-performance Innofill Can DVD can filler most commonly used to date caters for the medium capacity range, is the perfect choice here.”
Protecting natural springs and cutting emissions
The bottling plant chiefly produces flavored mineral waters in the Mattoni Imuno, Essence, Multi, Black and Cedrata ranges, plus beverages from the Pepsi portfolio and by other licensed brands that previously also had to be imported to the Czech Republic from Poland, for example. In this respect, the new investment is also a mark of progress when it comes to sustainability – a principle that Mattoni 1873 has consistently committed to. Besides protecting its springs, whose crystal-clear purity is to be maintained for future generations, the beverage bottler is extremely intent on cutting its emissions. Over ten years ago, for example, it restored the railroad track originally built solely for the company and in doing so reconnected the Kyselka facility up to the Czech railroad network. Since then, up to 80,000 pallets of goods have been transported by freight train a year, with well over 20,000 journeys by truck in total saved as a result – good for both the environment and for the general situation on the roads.
In line with the credo of the boss, first and foremost the group focuses on circularity. “We’ve been aiming for full circularity of all of our beverage packaging for a long time now,” explains company spokeswoman Lutfia Volfová. “We use returnable glass bottles, for instance, and try to have our PET bottles and beverage cans recycled locally.” To this end, the bottler has founded the zálohujme.cz initiative that campaigns for the introduction of a nationwide deposit system and of which Volfová is also spokesperson. “This measure would facilitate and promote container recycling, with the majority of the resources needed for manufacture of the primary raw materials, such as energy and water, and carbon emissions being saved.” Just like PET, recycled aluminum can be also perfectly reused as a material for beverage packaging, believes Volfová. “Before it can be fed back into the loop, however, we need to ensure an efficient return system.” In this respect, the initiative still has a way to go; at the moment, in the Czech Republic only three out of ten cans are collected.
Shared story of success
Mattoni 1873 and KHS have shared a bond for over 30 years now; since the Pasquales took the helm at the start of the 1990s, plenty of new equipment has been ordered from the Dortmund systems supplier – from a stretch blow molder for the plant in Moravia through Kisters packers in South Bohemia and a CombiKeg line for Poděbradka mineral water from Central Bohemia to a bottle washing machine for the Pepsi bottling plant in Prague. For many years the two companies have also engaged in a regular close exchange of ideas and information on topics such as technological innovation, changes in consumer behavior, market developments and regulation.
Besides the trusting partnership between Mattoni 1873 and KHS and the positive response to comparable KHS reference projects on the market, the newcomer to the beverage can segment was primarily prompted to invest by the existence of a dedicated local KHS office, as Volfová states. “This allowed our specialists to actively communicate with the team at KHS on all levels at each phase in the project’s implementation. This was an extremely convincing argument for us – that our partners were able to react quickly and personally at all times without having to overcome any language barriers.” KHS’ local presence in the Czech Republic is assured by no fewer than 18 employees who are able to carry out layouting, installation and general commissioning, among other work, independently.
Including all additional costs for conversions, expansion of their warehousing capacity and various connections, Mattoni 1873 has spent more than €8.2 million on the new system that’s been up and running in three-shift operation since 2023. “The market significance in Central Europe and the group’s strong growth require that we further expand and modernize our production capacities. In the past three years we’ve concentrated most heavily on the roots of our company, the Karlovy Vary region and our plant in Kyselka, where the majority of our capital has been invested,” says Alessandro Pasquale. Company founder Heinrich Mattoni surely would have approved.

How Many Types of Shrink Wrapping Machine are there?
Types of Shrink Wrapping Machines
Shrink wrapping machines come in various types to suit different production needs:
L-Bar Sealers: Ideal for sealing individual or grouped products using a sealing bar that creates a “L” shaped seal.
Heat Shrink Tunnels: Used for applying heat evenly to the wrapped product, ensuring a uniform shrink.
Manual vs. Automatic Machines: Manual machines are operated by hand and are suitable for smaller-scale operations, while automatic machines are fully automated, capable of handling high volumes with minimal human intervention.
What is a Shrink Wrapping Machine?
A shrink wrapping machine is a packaging device designed to wrap a product tightly in a protective plastic film. This film is then heated, causing it to shrink and conform to the contours of the product, creating a secure and visually appealing package. Whether used for individual products or grouping items into larger bundles, shrink wrapping ensures products are not only protected from dust, moisture, and tampering but also enhances their aesthetic appeal on store shelves.
How Does It Work?
The operation of a shrink wrapping machine typically involves several key steps:
Film Feeding: A roll of shrink film is unwound and fed into the machine.
Product Placement: Products are placed manually or automatically onto the film in the desired configuration.
Sealing: The machine seals the edges of the film around the product, forming a loose bag or sleeve.
Heat Application: Heat is applied evenly to the film using a heat tunnel or heat gun. This causes the film to shrink tightly around the product.
Cooling: The film cools and solidifies, forming a secure and protective wrap.
Advantages of Shrink Wrapping Machines
The adoption of shrink wrapping machines offers several compelling advantages:
Enhanced Product Protection: Shrink wrap provides a durable barrier against dust, moisture, and physical damage during transit and storage.
Improved Product Presentation: The tight, clear packaging enhances the visual appeal of products, making them more attractive to consumers.
Cost Efficiency: Automating the packaging process reduces labor costs and improves operational efficiency.
Versatility: Shrink wrapping can be used for a wide range of products across various industries, from food and beverage to electronics and pharmaceuticals.
Applications Across Industries
The versatility of shrink wrapping machines makes them indispensable across diverse industries:
Food and Beverage: Used for packaging food items such as trays of fruits, vegetables, and bakery goods.
Retail: Wrapping individual items like books, DVDs, and toys to enhance shelf appeal.
Pharmaceuticals: Ensuring the safety and integrity of medical supplies and equipment.
Sustainability Considerations
While shrink wrapping offers numerous benefits, there are growing concerns about its environmental impact due to plastic waste. However, advancements in biodegradable and recyclable shrink films are addressing these concerns, offering sustainable alternatives without compromising performance.
Conclusion
In conclusion, shrink wrapping machines represent a pivotal advancement in modern packaging technology, offering businesses a competitive edge through improved efficiency, product protection, and visual appeal. As industries continue to evolve, these machines will undoubtedly play an integral role in shaping the future of packaging, balancing innovation with sustainability to meet the demands of a dynamic global market.

CHECKLIST FOR CLEANING YOUR HOME
A Step-by-Step Guide to a Clean Home
Molly When you hire a maid, you're hiring a professional. One of the features of Molly Maid's Professional Cleaning Service is that she cleans your home on a schedule. Strategies for handling cleaning in a systematic and organized manner (flexible to individual needs).
House Cleaning Checklist.
Surprised to reveal a secret? We love to clean and we love to exercise. And we know our customers love our service. Besides, sharing is good.
Clean your home efficiently and thoroughly with our house cleaning checklist.
Before moving from room to room, pause first and let some great, vibrant music play. That's better. Clean up your clutter now. Look through your books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, furniture, toys your kids have grown up with, old computers you've grown up with, old clothes and shoes in your closet. Time to donate and recycle? Turn off your light bulbs and ceiling fans while you go about your dusting chore.
Speaking of closets, if there are things you don't want to open, it's time to face your fears and minimize and organize them.
Wipe the dust (left to right, top to bottom) with a microfiber cloth. This reduces allergens and improves the air quality in your home. Attaching a damp cloth to the end of a mop or broom works great for removing spider webs. For slat blinds, use the cord to close and dust in one direction, then close in the other direction and repeat...more effective and much more efficient than doing one slat at a time. Don't forget to knock down any small items such as the tops, fans, lamps, picture frames (and keep them in display cases to reduce dust work).
Use glass cleaner on a cotton or microfiber cloth to keep framed photos, TV screens, and the front of your computer monitor clean.
vacuum. Make sure the bag/compartment is not already full and use the proper settings and attachments. Hit the floors and upholstered furniture throughout the house. Be amazed by all the missing items (socks, favorite pens) under the sofa cushions.

GX Month- Laying Down My Armor
Jesse wants to get rid of something permanently. Jim and Axel help.
For @gxmonth
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/41403294/chapters/105198621
Warnings: suicide mention with suicide ideation. Nothing happens though. There is also a volcano, in case you wanted to know that.
“Axel, you know a lot about fire, right?”
There were few questions that could raise as much alarm as that one, especially when it was spoken with such hesitance, as if the asker himself was worried about asking it.
“Why do you ask?” Axel asked, sitting up in his seat. Neither him nor Jim had particularly fancied going out today, but to be left alone with their thoughts was an even worse prospect. So instead, they’d settled in on Jim’s sofa for a movie marathon, inviting Jesse along to join them. They’d just finished Jurassic Park 2, with Jim searching for the next one in among his belongings, when Jesse had suddenly asked about fire. Jim had stopped his search to hear the reasoning too.
“Um, well, suppose I wanted to burn something,” Jesse asked, running his hand through his hair with an awkward cringe on his face. That answer gave them absolutely no more confidence.
“What are you wanting to burn?” Axel probed further, and Jesse’s cringe turned into a full on grimace.
“Just some old clothes,” Jesse shrugged, not sounding particularly convinced himself.
“If they’re cotton they’ll burn easily, wool will put the fire out, polyester or nylon will melt instead,” Axel listed off. “Does that help?”
“What about leather?” Jesse asked.
“Leather doesn’t burn, not easily,” Axel shook his head, with Jesse sagging.
“You could recycle or re-use it instead,” Jim offered. “I’m sure there’ll be some leather workers out there who’d happily take it off your hands.”
But the suggestion didn’t seem to bring Jesse any joy, as he muttered out a solemn ‘no, that’s okay’, and turned back to the screen showing the DVD disc tray empty screen. Axel tried to wrack his thoughts for another suggestion, trying not to think too hard about why Jesse seemed to want to incinerate some leather. It was probably better to not pry.
“It’s unconventional, but lava would probably burn leather,” Jim suggested. “Or at least, it’d cause a nice light show then sink to the depths.”
“Where would we even find lava?” Jesse asked with a light chuckle.
“In the volcano! I want for a hike up there a while back, it’s difficult to get to the top but there’s still lava in there,” Jim explained.
“Wait, they built a school on an active volcano?” Jesse asked.
“It’s safe, it hasn’t erupted in a few thousand years,” Jim assured him. “But it’s a nice trip, would you be up for it too, Axel?”
“If Jesse wants us to go with him,” Axel offered, glancing over to Jesse.
“I will say, it’s not close. It’s about four hours to get to the volcano, and another couple hours to climb to the top, might be better to camp out over night and return the next day,” Jim explained. “Plus, it’s not all that safe to be that near lava without someone watching out for you…” There was an unspoken worry in Jim’s message that Axel picked up on; could they in good conscious let Jesse go alone, not knowing if he’d even come back?
“I suppose I have to,” Jesse shrugged. Axel opened his mouth to try and argue that they weren’t wanting to impose but Jesse shrugged and grinned. “I mean, I get lost going to class, imagine me on a hike!”
“When do you want to go?” Jim asked, dropping the DVDs he was rifling through and leaning over the back of the sofa instead.
“Well, if we’re camping out, then maybe this weekend?” Jesse suggested. It gave them only a couple of days to get any gear they needed together, but they’d had a worse turn around. Hell, given the past few months, any amount of preparation was appreciated.
“This weekend it is, then!” Jim agreed. “Axel and I can get the equipment, you should get some snacks, Jesse. I’m sure we’ll need them.”
////////////////////////////////////////
The weekend came around quickly, and soon it was Saturday morning, the sun barely having rose yet, a light dew across the grass, and Jesse looking decidedly more sleepy than his two hiking buddies. He wasn’t opposed to early mornings, in theory at least, but last night had not been met with good sleep. It had been getting better, at least, but rarely did a night go by without nightmares to wake him up, and last night had been particularly poor. Was it the knowledge of what he wanted to do?
He'd wrapped up that awful leather armour and the duel disk Yubel had used and stuffed it deep into his bag, the first time either of them had been moved since he’d tried to hide them from his sight, and were now covered in enough marshmallows, chocolate, cookies, hotdogs and skewers to feed a small army. Jim and Axel were quickly double checking that they had remembered everything, rifling through their bags. Eventually they stood up with satisfied smiles on their faces.
“Right, I think that’s everything,” Axel agreed.
“We’re only camping out overnight, we’re not going on holiday,” Jesse joked. The two of them were bringing so much, it was almost comical.
“Well, we want to be comfortable while we’re out,” Jim shrugged. “I’d happily sleep under the stars, but I thought you might prefer a tent.”
“I don’t want to be a bother, I can sleep outside if it’s easier,” Jesse offered, but Jim waved him off.
“We’ll all be thankful for it if it decides to rain,” Jim assured him.
“What direction do you suggest?” Axel asked Jim, who turned towards the forests behind them.
“Well, we could go via the main building, but personally I’d suggest the scenic route, and just head straight into the forest now. There’s a lot of wildlife on this island, it’d be great to see some.”
“Won’t Shirley scare them off?” Axel asked. Shirley gave a low grumble from her carry pack.
“No more than we will. Shirley knows to be quiet when we’re in the wild.”
They came to an agreement, that the scenic route would be better, and they set off, Jim leading the way, using his duel disk to help clear off any overgrowth that got in their way, while stopping them frequently to point out tracks in the mud that he recognised.
The forest itself was beautiful, verdant and bountiful, leaves overhead letting rays of sunlight burst through the canopy, the rising sun showering the forest in light. Birds sung in the treetops, fluffing their feathers against the early morning chill, watching them curiously as they made their way. The fruits of the trees were bright, punctuating against the otherwise non-stop green. Jesse was swallowing the air as if it was a rarity; it felt so free out here, so quiet, so safe. Almost enough to make him forget why they were hiking in the first place.
Jim held out his arm, making them all stop, pointing silently up into the canopy. Jesse tilted his head, trying to figure out what Jim had seen, until a rustle of leaves and the soft calling made him realise what he’d spotted.
“Monkeys!” Jesse whispered with excitement. There was a few up there, watching them as closely as they were watched.
“Perfectly safe, but you might want to keep tight hold of your things,” Jim whispered back, indicating for them to carry on. Jesse couldn’t pull his eyes away from them. Imagine! They’d never believe this back at North Academy, the best they got was chasing away polar bears with flare guns.
“Syrus said that Jaden-“ Jesse cringed as he said the name, the pang in his heart reflected on Jim and Axel’s faces. In his excitement he’d almost forgot. In his joy, in the beauty of this forest; how could he forget the friend who should’ve been with them? Who would’ve loved to spend this time with them, even if he did complain about the early morning? Jesse continued more quietly. “That Jaden duelled one of them, in his first year.”
“It’s the first I’ve heard that a monkey could duel,” Axel answered. “Have you hear of that, Jim?”
“Just at Duel academy. I don’t think I could train Shirley to do it, not without her tearing up all the cards,” Jim joked, but there was something almost hollow to his voice. Like it wasn’t said for mirth, but to say something, anything. Jesse bit at his lip, he’d really dragged the mood down so quickly. They walked on in uncomfortable silence for a while.
“What’s the most exciting animal you’ve seen on trips with your dad, then, axel?” Jim asked eventually, trying to break the silence.
“We usually avoided wildlife, our trips were more for learning survival,” Axel answered. “Other than for tracking practice. But there were some interesting parrots one time.”
“What about at North Academy, Jesse? See many polar bears?” Jim asked.
“From time to time,” Jesse shrugged. “The arctic foxes are better to watch, though. Less likely to eat you.”
Jim laughed, scratching at Shirley. “We know that feeling, don’t we Shirley? Wallabys may be a dime a dozen, but you’d rather see them than a gator outside the dorm in the morning.”
Jesse opened his mouth to reply, but a fluttering nearby caught his attention, whirling him around to a butterfly fluttering through the undergrowth. With a gasp, he tapped Axel on the shoulder and pointed it out, watching the flash of purple dance around the leaves.
“It’s a Great Purple Emperor!” Jesse exclaimed, trying to keep as quiet as his excitement allowed. “That’s Japan’s national butterfly!”
The buttefly settled on a nearby bush, and Jesse slowly approached it, with Jim and Axel halting behind him. He stopped a few feet short, watching it slowly flap its wings, before taking off once more. He turned back to his friends with a smile. “Did you see it?”
“Sure did, what a beaut!” Jim agreed.
They walked on for another couple of hours, before finding themselves at the base of the volcano. It towered up above them, with only half-cleared paths suggesting that there may be any chance of reaching the summit, and Jesse suddenly had the inkling of the gulf between his desires and what could feasibly be done. Jim, however, apparently hadn’t, and was cheerfully unloading the supplies he’d brought or the camp.
“Axel, why don’t you and Shirley stay here and build up a camp while Jesse and I go climb the volcano?” Jim offered. Axel’s face screwed up as he started to argue, but Jim pushed the supplies into his hands. “We’ve brought a lot with us, and it’ll be hard to carry up the volcano and down again, we’ll be tired enough as it is. We can’t just leave it here with monkeys about, they’ll steal it.”
“You could stay here instead,” Axel suggests.
“Maybe, but I’ve climbed this volcano before, so I know the way up it,” Jim refuted.
“I could go up by myself?” Jesse offered. His family could help guide him, after all.
“No,” Jim and Axel replied at the same time, before lapsing into an awkward silence. Axel carried on. “I’ll stay behind, I don’t want anyone going up that volcano alone though, if someone falls and gets hurt…”
“We’ll watch out for each other,” Jim assured him. “Well, Jess? Ready to go?”
Jesse nodded, waving good-bye to Axel as Jim lead the way towards the tight, winding path that lead up to the volcano.
And it was winding, it felt like they spent more time going backwards and forwards than actually gaining any height, with Jim pointing out the rocks to Jesse as they went, introducing him to the long names and even picking up a few to investigate better once they’d reached the summit. After about thirty minutes, they were maybe a quarter of the way up, high enough that they could see over the trees to the main campus, yet low enough that they could still call out and wave to Axel as he worked getting the tent set up.
“It’s a beautiful view at the top,” Jim explained, setting off once more. “Very warm though.”
Jesse still hadn’t gotten over the chill that had plagued him since he returned, and frankly, if he didn’t feel warmth at the top of the volcano, he was pretty sure he’d never feel warm ever again. A terrifying thought, which only swirled around with the others plaguing his mind. Jim seemed to pick up on it too, keeping quiet for most of the walk, only occasionally speaking up to snap Jesse out of his thoughts.
After a two hour long climb, Jesse’s legs felt like jelly; the air wasn’t super thin this high, but it tasted of sulphur and was just thin enough to make breathing more strenuous. They had taken more and more breaks the higher they went, and now they were so high up it was almost dizzying to look down. But they were here, at the summit, barely a stone’s throw away from the lip that oversaw the lava, where finally, Jesse could lay the lasting physical remnants of what had happened in Dark World to rest. Jim sat down on one of the nearby boulders, removing his hat and wiping his brow.
“It’s warm up here!” He said, yet still Jesse couldn’t feel it. “You should probably take off your jacket, you don’t want to make yourself sick.”
Jesse did so, having to remove his backpack as he did so, placing it on the floor. Jim took the jacket and held on to it, while Jesse opened the bag, rifling through for the package he’d left at the bottom. His fingers touched the sheer fabric of the DA uniform; he’d taken one of the coats the academy had supplied him in his room to wrap the clothes and duel disk up in, so he wouldn’t have to see it so much. He pulled the whole bundle out, packets of marshmallows spilling out as he did so.
“I guess I’ll go throw this in the volcano then,” Jesse muttered, the hard disk very noticeable in the bundle. Jim nodded slowly.
“Do you want me to come with you, or would you rather I wait here?” He asked softly. Jesse hesitated for a moment before answering.
“I’d like to throw it in by myself.”
“That’s alright,” Jim agreed. “Shout if you need help or get into trouble, I’ll just rest up.”
Jesse nodded, leaving the bag on the floor as he made the remaining journey up the volcano, barely any distance from where Jim sat, yet the gulf felt much further. And when he reached the lip, he had to brace himself to look over.
Just as promised, lava bubbled some feet below him, deep enough in the volcano to not be a risk to him, but close enough that he would be able to see whatever happened to what was thrown in. Jesse took a deep breath, and unwrapped the parcel, seeing once more, for the last time, that horrible, leather clothes Yubel had had him in, so tight and constricting, like they weren’t for wearing but for keeping him confined. Beneath them was the duel disk Yubel had used, too flashy, too dark for his liking: the academy ones were so much better. Anything was better than whatever Yubel had touched. Jesse dropped the academy jacket to the floor, carrying the clothes and duel disk alone, holding them over the lava.
He hesitated for a moment, just a moment, before he let go, watching the bundle fall down into the lava below. They hit the surface, and seemed to stay in place, the thick lava not shifting to let them sink. Instead, the heat slowly melted the leather and the plastic of the disk, flames licking up the sides of the leather, slowly disappearing into the lava below. And Jesse watched until they were all gone, without a single trace of either disk nor clothes remaining. Gone. Forever.
He stepped back, simultaneously feeling a weight lifted from his chest and yet feeling nothing at all. Had he hoped that would heal all his remaining wounds? He wasn’t sure. It hadn’t, but maybe it had been the first step to it. He turned back around.
His family were stood with him, waiting, watching him from a near distance. They didn’t speak, but in their eyes he could see their pride, their worries, their love, and he smiled back. “Thanks for coming with me,” he whispered.
“Always, Jesse. We’ll always be with you,” Sapphire reassured him. Jesse smiled another thanks, picking up the jacket he’d dropped to the floor and returning to where Jim still sat, watching over the island like a sentinel. He didn’t look up when he heard Jesse approach.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Jim asked. Jesse stopped, looking to where Jim was looking. From here you could see everything: the forest, the dorms and the school buildings, the ocean and the waves within it. If you looked hard enough, you could see the docks, barely a blip in your vision. “This high up, everything looks so small. Even things that feel really big on the ground, it’s all so small.” Jesse had a feeling he wasn’t talking about the buildings. Jim scooted over, tapping the rock for Jesse to sit down next to him, and he did so without complaint. “Thanks for letting me come up here with you.”
“Thanks for coming with me,” Jesse replied. Jim was right; up here, looking out across the sun speckled sea and the lush forest, it was hard to think of what had happened in Dark World. It was so far removed from everything that had happened, he could almost feel safe.
“I’m sorry that we didn’t give you a choice, it’s not that we want to force ourselves on you, mate, but…” Jim trailed off, not knowing how to approach the topic, and frankly, Jesse didn’t either. Subtlety was not Jim’s strong suit, and people wasn’t Axel’s, and between them, they’d made it pretty obvious what they feared Jesse would do if left on his own too long. Jesse would almost be insulted, if he hadn’t known it came only from a place of concern. If only he hadn’t tried to push away the thoughts himself, not of taking action, but the dreaded musings of what it would have been like if he was just dead instead. No more nightmares, and if he hadn’t been here at all, no nightmares for his friends either.
“It’s nice to know that you care,” Jesse replied, and Jim wrapped his arm around Jesse’s shoulder.
“Of course we care,” he insisted, hugging Jesse tight, and Jesse happily let himself be pulled into the hug. “You’re one of my best mates, mate. I’d do anything for you. And traipsing through the forest, camping out overnight and climbing a volcano are all things I’d do for fun by myself anyway. I’m glad you’re here, though.”
“I’m glad you’re here too,” Jesse agreed, leaning into the hug for a moment longer before sitting up right, with Jim’s arm falling back down to his side. “We should probably head back, before Axel and Shirley get themselves into trouble.”
“Doing what, terrorising Syrus while we’re away?” Jim joked, standing up and picking up Jesse’s bag, handing it to him. “I’ll definitely be ready for some snacks when we get back, though. I hope Axel’s built a fire. Did you bring anything good?”
“Marshmallows, sausages, stuff to make s’mores, all the stuff I’d think of as good. Axel brought food too, right?” Jesse asked as they started to make their way back down.
“He did, but s’mores! Can’t believe I’m gonna learn how to make s’mores from an actual American, feels like it should be a bucket list item,” Jim joked, to which Jesse couldn’t help but titter.
“You’ve never made s’mores? What have you been doing with your life?”
“We’ve made them, but I’m not sure we did them right.”
“Well, prepare to be taught the best way to do it then!”
“Can’t wait!”

How Many Types of Plastic are there
How Many Types of Plastic are there? Which can be recycled?
There are seven types of plastic. Generally, only two of those are recycled. More on the reasons for the lack of recycling later.
The seven types of plastic are:
Polyethene terephthalate (PETE), this is used for clear bottles and food trays. Because PETE is so thick, it is the most recycled of all the plastic products.
High-Density Polyethene (HDPE), this is used for milk bottles, bleach bottles, washing up liquids and some bottle tops. Because of the density of the plastic, it is common for this to be recycled.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC-U), this is typically used for piping, windows and doors, and wire insulation. PVC-U is rarely recycled because it is difficult to make other plastic from the output.
Low-Density Polythene (LDPE), this is used in producing plastic bags, plastic wrapping and cling film. The chemical composition of LDPE means that it is difficult to recycle this type of plastic.
Polypropylene (PP), this is used in the manufacture of butter and margarine tubs, as well as, clear fresh soup containers, some bottle caps and glass jar caps. PP is not usually recycled.
Polystyrene or Styrofoam, these products are used for yoghurt pots, insulated disposable cups, some trays and parcel packaging. It isn't easy to recycle Polystyrene.
This section is often described as Other and includes Polycarbonate, Acrylic, Styrene and Perspex. These plastics can be found in CD's and DVD's and their cases, reading glasses, some electrical connections and general household plastic. These plastics are tough to recycle and so end up in a landfill.
So there you have it only two types of plastic are recycled. You may ask why? The reason is twofold, firstly the two kinds of plastic have the ideal chemical compound to be recycled and made into a plastic that can then be used again. To understand that you need to be aware of polymers. PETE and HDPE have a long chemical chain and so when it is processed those chains are broken down, but a new plastic can then be produced from the output, although the plastic is less dense. Recycled plastics are generally only recycled once.
But what is stopping all the other plastics being recycled? Here you need to understand what is meant by recycling. People have come to use the term recycle when a product is produced that has the same, or similar, properties as the original product. So to be a recycled product, plastic must come from plastic. The process for producing plastic from plastic is called mechanical recycling. Mechanical recycling uses a pressure process to squeeze the original plastic to make it pliable and able to be formed into the desired shape. The mechanical recycling produces a significant profit.
But what happens to all the plastic that is not recycled? That waste ends up in landfill sites, the ocean or being incinerated. Is there a better way?
Yes, there is.
It is possible for Plastic waste to be chemically recycled, or as some people would prefer chemically reformed. This process replicates the way the plastic was formed in the first place and returns it to its original chemical components, namely, oil and gas.
But is this safe? The answer is yes. Recently there have been several breakthroughs using this technology, called Pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is not new; it has been used for centuries. Pyrolysis is a way of heating products to a high temperature in an oxygen-free environment. Once the plastics are heated, they produce a gas, which is then processed to make different types of oil.

Part 3: Build-a-booth
Pictured above: Mythee and FallingMist walking their booth setup things to the convention. Not depicted is our photographer and dear friend, WindPower, who helped us throughout the event!
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed*, the three of us (FallingMist, Mythee, and WindPower) trundled our load of prints and tabletop appliances to the Palais des Congrès de Montreal the day before the convention would begin.
*We were actually all relatively exhausted from processing our wares past 1 am the previous night, but excited nonetheless.
This trip wasn’t just to set up our booth. We had paid to have our badges mailed home, but apparently you still have to go in line to pick up the required artist ribbon, so it had been a false convenience in our case. Alas...
Pictured above: The artist lineup the day before the convention.
Once inside the centre, we made our way to the Artist’s badge lineup. The wait felt long, but it was probably about an hour!
Pictured above: Cutting in line, get it?
We used that time to cut more individual stickers out from the sheets we had ordered. I wanted every corner rounded because the sticker vinyl and paper was tough enough that I worried someone might cut or stab themselves while handling them!
Pictured above: Artist ribbon on a 3-day Otakuthon pass. Mythee wearing sandals with socks
After picking up the Artist Ribbon, we could head in! They also gave us the loot bags you typically get at anime conventions, so we began to check out the events available.
Pictured above: Rakugo? Count us in!
Pictured above: FallingMist has found our table: the table of death, 444. In the background, we can see oodles of artists setting up their booths.
It looked like in our haste to fill the form, we hadn’t realized that the main artist name you sign up as is your only chance to represent both artists at the booth on the sign and on the official Artist Alley map. No matter, we would craft our own signs to affix to the front of the booth.
Pictured above: FallingMist setting down the granite bookstops her friend John (who works at the Aldrich Public Library in Barre, Vermont) gave us as a wedding gift!
Since this was our first time setting up in the artist alley, we didn’t spend much on setup. Other artists had warned us that first timers rarely break even, so we only used what was lying around our home, with the help of lots of tape, cardboard, curtain rods, and two DVD trays from a thrift store. In total, our setup costs were <10$ compared to the no doubt >100$ some artists spend on fancy displays.
Mind you, those displays are nicer to look at and faster to set up. If we ever do this again, we’re definitely going to think of something better than this year’s budget architectural feat.
Pictured above: FallingMist tying green rope to a table leg, with a DVD tray in the foreground, on which micropipette tip holders are affixed with tape to serve as platforms and spacers for the other objects in our poster stand’s framework.
Who knew discarded micropipette tip holders could be so useful? Wind accomplished many feats by using them.
Pictured above: Giant discarded petri dishes that Mythee rescued from their lab recycling to use as sticker organizers. Don’t worry, these had only been used to start some tomato seedlings prior to this.
Petri dishes are easy to open, easy to close, easy to stack see-through storage, and they were especially helpful as sticker organizers.
Depicted above: Fish-eye view of the completed booth framework, and a pile of our stuff laying in front of it.
A good thing our neighbors weren’t there yet, because we had been taking up a lot of room until that point.
Depicted above: Mythee rushing to get Ultimate Expanding Mind Meme Rimuru up.
It was finally time to put up some posters! We were eager to see them in full display.
Depicted above: Mythee and FallingMist hanging their prints up.
Uh oh. Something was wrong. While booths in the aisles were brightly lit, our own end-position display was cast in shadow, with no lighting coming from the front. This made the prints- which had already come out darker than we had expected at the Costco Photo Centre- even more difficult to see.
Depicted above: Behind the booth. The exit door is in view from here.
We hoped our proximity to the door would nevertheless balance out this disadvantage, but it was the furthest door of the room from incoming foot traffic and those who make their way there were usually on their way out of, not into, the artist alley.
Depicted above: The completed setup, posters entirely cast in shadow except for the table surface.
On the first day, we had not put the Lilies Anthology volumes out on the table, but we quickly learned that relying on the open volume to the right of the table for attention was a bad idea. Things laying horizontally toward the front of the table were not only better lit, they gathered much more attention than the things hanging up above us! (The bookmarks I had set out to the front for 25 cents each were definitely quick to disappear.)
Pictured above: WindPower at work behind the booth, with horizontal wares on display including advertisements for commissions and a sticker advertising the presence of a Square Reader
Something that earned us a lot more customers was the presence of a little piece of hardware called the Square Reader. It allowed us to take credit card payments (but not debit). It can be obtained for free online by just about anyone, I think. I didn’t even have to pay for shipping!
Pictured above: Mythee standing behind three of FallingMist’s considerably more well-lit posters on the side of the booth.
To get some of that better lighting, we put up some of our posters on the sides of our booth as well. We’re not sure how much this helped.
Pictured: Mythee’s Odogaron and Legiana posters affixed on the backside of the booth
We tried putting some posters up behind the booth as well.
Pictured above: A crank-up battery powered flashlight being used to bring some light to the front of our unfortunately dimly lit booth display.
This spotlight, however! On the third day, Wind tried to affix his battery powered light above some posters. Sales definitely increased on the posters that were lit up!
That’s it for the booth setup related part of our story. I’ll post the rest of this adventure later! See you around. Part 1: The Otakuthon Art Journey begins Part 2: Prepping the wares Part 3: Build-a-booth

Fall Harvest and Bulb Buying
“Tickle it with a hoe and it will laugh into a harvest.” English Saying
Every September I think about two major garden projects that transpire throughout the autumn season: harvesting and bulb buying.
Fall boasts a spectacular bounty of pears, Asian pears, grapes, apples, tomatoes, tangerines, blackberries, walnuts, kiwis, and more. The last of the peaches and nectarines are being picked while festivals celebrating the end of the fruit and vegetable collections transpire throughout the next two months across the United States.
We also kick off fall by thinking about what bulbs we’ll want to plant for spring. Alliums, daffodils, tulips, crocus, hyacinths, iris, snowdrops, muscari, and fritillaria top the lists of many gardeners.
Let’s get started on this month’s workload!
Fruit and Vegetables
What do we do with all the produce that is harvested? Besides eating your fruits and veggies fresh and raw, autumn is a plum time for canning, freezing, pickling, and drying the season’s extra yield to enjoy during the winter months when “fresh-picked” is not possible. Use a dehydrator to dry apples, peaches, tomatoes, and pears. Put grapes into an ice-cube tray, add water, and make grape cubes that are pretty and delicious in drinks. After cooling, freeze batches of various fruit sauces that have simmered in a pot with a dash of salt, sugar, honey, and/or vinegar. For canning and pickling, check online sources for simple recipes and make sure to follow the safety requirements. Making jams, jellies, pies, and chutneys is easy and fun, especially when you involve the kids. Next to Christmas, harvest time was always a favorite family experience when I was growing up.
Although my vegetable garden did not return the abundance I had anticipated for the year, my fruit trees overcompensated. I’ve been slicing crunchy apples into salads, sauces, compotes, soups, and making crumbles, pies, and crisps. Peaches or nectarines with fresh cream is one of my favorite breakfast treats. For a refreshing and invigorating weekend cocktail that I call Sunday Sensation, try this beautiful and delicious combination. It can be made with or without alcohol.
Sunday Sensation
In a clear pitcher, muddle cut pieces of peach and nectarine. Add slices of an orange, tangerine, and Meyer lemon. Stir in a shot glass of Campari or Aperol for an alcohol infused drink, add ice cubes, and top with sparkling wine or Champagne. For a virgin sensation, use a cup of orange juice topped with sparkling water or apple cider. Garnish with sprigs of basil and mint leaves.
Yummy!
While you are enjoying your Sunday Sensation, it’s time to contemplate the bulbs and rhizomes you’ll plant this fall for a spring showcase. Bulbs can be planted mid to late fall in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Daffodils can be planted anytime and anywhere. They are especially great in areas where deer roam as the deer are repelled by them. There are so many varieties of tulips for early, mid-season, and late blooming that it may be best to peruse bulb catalogs to get an idea of the specimens that speak to you. All tulips will need six weeks of refrigeration before planting so it is doubly critical that you decide on what to buy now. For rock gardens and borders, you may be thrilled by Water Lily tulips that naturalize when left undisturbed. When you want exotic-looking tulips, consider the flamboyant Parrot or Peony flowering tulips. If you want to force flowering, single or double early tulips are the most well-known as well as Species and Triumph tulips.
Forcing How-to:
Plant bulbs in well-draining pots in October, place them in the dark for 12-14 weeks while chilling at 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit. Gradually move pots to filtered sunlight to allow sprouting and acclimation. Water as needed.
Ponder the Pollinators:
Happy bees stay in our gardens helping nature thrive. By planting bulbs in colors most attractive to the bees––blue, purple, white, and yellow––fresh food is provided for them after winter when they need it most. The best bulbs for bees are allium, anemone, camassia, corydalis, crocus, fritillaria, Galanthus, hyacinths, muscari, tulips, and scilla.
Best Way to Plant Large Quantities:
Most people plant bulbs in groups of five to seven spaced six inches apart and buried four to five inches deep. However, if you want to create a bold and beautiful impact with large swatches of color, try trenching. You can mix bulbs or use one variety or one species.
Dig a long five-inch deep (or whatever depth the bulb packaging indicates) trench wherever you want to make your floral statement. It can be straight or made into a circle or pattern. Add soil amendments if your ground is clay and hard. Arrange a minimum of a hundred bulbs with the pointy side up. Cover area with soil and mulch. Water, wait, and WOW!
After blooms fade in the spring, cut the flower stalks to allow the bulbs to conserve energy for the next year while the foliage continues to flourish.
Hose Repair:
Every time I or my siblings telephoned my Mom during a summer or fall day, the first words out of her mouth were “I’m busy. I’m pulling hoses.” That line became a code sentence for us whenever we were doing manual labor that others may not think was important, but what was critical to us. This past summer, to save water by not turning on my irrigation system, I found myself pulling actual hoses daily. By spot watering, I was able to water deeply and accurately, but it was arduous work pulling those heavy hoses. Several tore or broke during the process and I mended them, giving them new life. I have always repaired frayed or cut hoses and figured everyone repaired theirs when necessary. But then I saw a couple of hoses in the recycle bin area of a client’s yard with new hoses sitting next to the front faucets. They didn’t realize that hoses are easily repaired with inexpensive parts. If your hose is damaged, head to the hardware store to buy either a female or male coupling. If your hose is broken in the middle, you can buy a connector. Cut off the damaged hose part with a shear or sharp knife. Use a Philipps screwdriver to open the connector. Push the new female or male plug into the hose and tighten the connector with the screwdriver. Test the hose. It will be good as new. I tend to use more female couplings than males, so I always buy extras.
Tickle your garden with a hoe and you’ll have a great harvest. Come visit me at the Pear and Wine Festival in Moraga at the Be the Star You Are!® charity booth on September 25th and pick up some free goodies. Laugh on!

Molded Fiber Pulp Packaging Market 2017 –2027
Molded fiber is a paper-based packaging material that uses 100% recyclable materials such as newspaper, cardboard, water, and other natural fibers. It is also known as molded pulp as it is used to formed shape, it is created with round corners and complex three-dimensional shapes. For example, egg cartons is used as protective packaging. Molded fiber pulp packaging is also used for packaging of electronics, automotive parts, household goods, and medical products. Molded paper pulp easily gets decomposed in the soil.
The global Molded Fiber Pulp Packaging market was valued at US$ 7180.0 Mn in terms of value and 2683009.2 Thousand Tons in terms of volume in 2018
Increasing launch of wood-fiber based packaging solution is projected to propel the market growth of molded fiber pulp packaging. For instance, in May 2019, Stora Enso introduced DuraSense by Stora Enso, a wood-fiber-based bio-composite for premium cosmetics, food and luxury brands that aim for effective and biodegradable packaging alternatives. DuraSense is a combination of wood fibers and polymers which could be bio-based, fossil, or recycled.

The availability of substitutes such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) and other plastic is projected to hinder the market growth. Moreover, usage of molded fiber also raise the raw material and power requirements as compared to EPS which is also projected to hamper the market growth over the forecast period. Furthermore, EPS has improved as a shock-absorbing material than mold fiber pulp packaging and is also lightweight and versatile. This offers savings in overall production costs. Therefore, rising usage of EPS as a substitute for molded fiber pulp is projected to curb market growth.
Molded fiber packaging is not suitable for packaging of product such as furniture, televisions, cold chain shippers, etc. hence this is protected to limit market growth over the forecast period. Moreover, the choice of raw materials directly depends on the characteristic of the final product and differ in the properties. Hence, such factors are projected to hinder the market growth over the forecast period.
Rising investment by major player for the development of biodegradable fiber product is projected to offer new immense growth opportunity to the market. For instance, in March 2019, Stora Enso has invested around US$ 5.5 Million to build a new production line and related infrastructure to manufacture formed fiber products at Hylte Mill in Sweden. The formed fiber technology enables manufacturing of products that are designed for circularity, meaning that they are renewable, recyclable and biodegradable and do not contain any plastic.
Growing demand for fiber drums from the retail sector for packaging purposes is expected to show lucrative growth opportunities to the market. Fiber drum is low cost and eco-friendly and are more resistant to corrosion in comparison to plastic and met counterparts. Moreover, they are manufactured from the recyclable materials and require less amount of energy during production that reduces their footprint on the environment. Therefore, this is expected to propel the market growth over the forecast period.

Michelle MariceMopkins Meanings of Plastic Recycling Symbols
Michelle MariceMopkins Certified tips provider. In the 1967 movie "The Graduate", Mr. McGuire had one piece of career advice for young Benjamin Braddock - plastics. That advice was spot-on. In the 40 years since "The Graduate," the use of plastic has exploded from such applications as car bumpers and beverage bottles to computers and portable electronic devices. It has been classified into seven types, including PET, the type used for plastic water and soda bottles. In 2006, PET plastic products alone accounted for 2.7 million tons of plastic bottles.
Now the looming question is what to do with all that plastic. The most obvious solution is recycling. We seemingly see the Recycling Icon everywhere, on the side of packaging and containers and signs at recycling centers.
But this symbol is a relatively recent creation. So, where did it come from? In 1970, Chicago-based Container Corporation of America sponsored a contest for art and design students at high schools and colleges across the country to raise awareness of environmental issues. At the time, 23 year-old John Anderson was a student at the University of Southern California was looking for ways to help pay for his studies abroad. He entered the contest and his entry was selected as the winner. According to a later interview, Anderson intended the three arrows to "symbolize continuity within a finite entity".
The logo is now known the world over and is part of the public domain, meaning unfortunately for Mr. Anderson, he doesn't see any royalties.
The Meaning of the Recycling Symbol
Each of the three arrows can represent one step in a three-step process that forms a closed recycling loop.
Michelle MariceMopkins Certified tips provider. The first step represents recyclable materials which are placed into the curbside recycling bin or taken to a local collection center. The collected materials are cleaned and sorted for reuse. Plastic must be sorted by typebecauseeach type melts at a different temperature and has differentproperties.
The manufacturing process is the second arrow in the recycling symbol. The recyclable materials are manufactured into new products for resale to other companies or to the consumer.
The third step - the actual purchase and use of the products made from the recycled materials - completes the loop.
Meanings of Specific Recycle Plastic Symbols
Inside the 3 Recycling Arrows is a number that represents a particular type of plastic.
Number 1
Usually clear or green, sinks in water, rigid, glossy.
Because it is inexpensive, lightweight and easy to recycle, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic is the most common plastic for single-use bottled beverages, such as soft drinks, water and beer bottles, peanut butter containers, mouthwash bottles, salad dressing and vegetable oil. It also poses a low risk of leaching breakdown products and is conducive to bacterial growth.
It is typically recycled into polar fleece, furniture, carpet, fiber, tote bags, straps, paneling, and occasionally new containers.
Even though the material is in high demand by re-manufacturers, recycling rates hover only around 20%.
Number 2
Slightly opaque, low gloss, crackly film
HDPE (high density polyethylene) is a versatile plastic with many uses, especially in packaging. Found in milk jugs, juice bottles, shampoo bottles, bleach, detergent and household cleaner bottles, motor oil bottles, butter and yogurt tubs, cereal box liners, some trash and shopping bags. Generally not thought to be a health concern.
It is readily recyclable into many goods and carries a low risk of leaching. It is often recycled into drainage pipe, laundry detergent bottles, pens, recycling containers, oil bottles, benches, doghouses, floor tile, picnic tables, lumber, and fencing.
Number 3
Semi-rigid, glossy, sinks in water
PVC (polyvinylchloride) is tough and stands up to weather conditions well, so it is commonly used for siding and piping, as well as in shampoo bottles, window cleaner and detergent bottles, cooking oil bottles, carpet backing, medical equipment, clear food packaging, windows, and wire jacketing. Because PVC contains chlorine, the manufacturing process can release highly toxic dioxins.
Be sure to not let food come in contact with containers made from PVC if used in cooking. Also, because it releases toxins, PVC should never be burned. Although it is rarely recycled, when it is, it is made into decks, roadway gutters, mats, cables, flooring, paneling, mud-flaps, and speed bumps
Number 4
Translucent
LDPE (low density polyethylene) is a flexible plastic with many applications. LDPE is used in squeezable bottles, furniture, dry cleaning and shopping bags, tote bags, carpet, clothing, bread bags, six-pack rings, and shrink wrap. Generally considered safe.
LDPE is not often recycled through curbside programs. Plastic shopping bags can often be returned to many stores for recycling.
It is recycled into shipping envelopes, floor tile, paneling, trash can liners and cans, lumber, compost bins, and landscaping ties
Number 5
Semi-rigid, low gloss
Michelle MariceMopkins Certified tips provider. Because PP (Polypropylene has a high melting point, it is often chosen for containers that must accept hot liquid. Found in some ketchup bottles, yogurt containers, medicine bottles syrup bottles, caps, and straws. This plastic is considered safe.
It is gradually becoming more accepted by recyclers.
Recycled into brooms, brushes, bicycle racks, signal lights, bins, pallets, trays, auto battery cases, ice scrapers, battery cables, landscape borders, and rakes.
Number 6 Plastics
Often brittle, glossy
PS (Polystyrene) can be made into rigid or foam products (trademark Styrofoam). Found in packing peanuts, disposable plates, cups, cutlery, and trays. Polystyrene can leach potential toxins into foods. This material has long been a target of environmental groups because it is so widely dispersed across the landscape, and because it is difficult to recycle.
When recycled, it can be made into rulers, foam packing, insulation, carry-out containers, egg cartons, light switch plates, and vents
Number 7 Plastics
A wide variety of plastic resins that don't fit into the previous categories which were invented after 1987. Some are made from plants and can be composted rather than recycled. Used in margarine containers, lenses including sunglasses, automotive headlamps, riot shields, baby milk bottles, prescription glasses, and instrument panels.
One Number 7 plastic that is widely used is Polycarbonate, including BPA. BPA is a hard plastic that has become a health concern after studies have shown it can leach potential hormone disruptors.
Typically found in 3 and 5 gallon water bottles, certain food containers, nylon, MP3 players and computer cases, sunglasses, DVDs, 'bullet-proof' materials, signs and displays,
Normally Number 7 products are not recycled, but if they are, they can be found in plastic lumber.
Michelle MariceMopkins Certified tips provider. While some of the plastic types listed above are considered safe, in general, in general, it's better to avoid micro-waving plastic and stick to glass.

The Freecycle Movement
The Freecycle movement began in America in 2003 and has since spread to the UK and 119 other countries. If you have something useful you no longer want, you can advertise it, hopefully receive e-mails from people who would like to collect it and arrange collection by one of them. One photograph can be included in each advertisement.
Following a house clearance, my place is cluttered with surplus items which are much too good to throw away or even recycle. Antiquarian books are always popular if described as such, but I have also handed over a large plastic sports bag, a small stainless steel pedal bin and an old fashioned tea tray over the last few days.
Freecycle does not allow age related products such as alcohol, tobacco and DVDs rated 12 or above. However, there is an amazing variety on offer. Members can also post “wanted” advertisements asking whether anyone has a particular item they no longer want. To find your local group, go to https://www.freecycle.org/ and search for your town, city or county. Be careful to try several times though. For example, if you search for “Surrey”, you won’t be told about the thriving group in Guildford, Surrey with about 35,000 members.
The main economic effect is that overall we have more useful things. This is partially offset by the need to buy less. Unfortunately economic statistics will report only that we are consuming a little less, even though we will actually have more. Other effects are reducing the local council’s garbage disposal costs and meeting nice people in the Freecycle movement.
