Colin Seven was born in Baltimore into a blue collar world on the 2nd

of June 1973 and raised on skateboards, bicycles and Saturday morning

cartoons.   He left school at an early age and spent his formative

years traveling the United States playing in rock and roll bands.  His

primary literary interests are repair manuals and technical journals

pertaining to vintage motorcycles and rare firearms.  Building

engines, world travel and hanging out with dogs are among his favorite

pastimes.  Although rarely seen in public, he is reported to be easily

approached and pleasant to speak with.

Eric de Jesus was born of jackals in Bethlehem Pennsylvania at the

end of the summer of love. He was in many spastic and improv and hardcore bands.

He runs The Easy Subcult and the American Typewriter

Press. His books include Cult Of The Moon (Sloow Leylines Press,

Belgium 2008) We Wont Be Here Forever (Future Recordings, Oakland

2010) and lots of stories and spoken recordings. His work has

appeared in many publications including Giant Robot, Exile Osaka,

Raw Pogo On The Scaffold and Bellville Park Pages.

Rising Yoko Ono and Ima (Capitol) (released in 1995)

I’m fretting Yoko Ono’s catalog these days and when I find something sealed (or even unsealed) at a nice crazy price, I like to snap it up.  I recently bought Rising Mixes from The Rib Brothers on 15 April (unsealed, but free) and I discovered this sealed copy of the parent album from RecordGrouch in NYC.  The owner let me buy something off his discogs list and his website and we did it via e-mail and it was completely hassle free.  And he got it to me in three days (not counting the holiday Monday).

Frank Wess - Southern Comfort (Prestige, 1962) One of my most recent finds (thanks, @recordgrouch!), this marvelous album has a nice mix of hard-swinging jams infused with Latin rhythms (thanks to Ray Barretto) and lighter ballads and standards, all arranged by the sure hand of Oliver Nelson. It’s day 14 of the #septemberspins vinyl challenge by @vinylhandle and @shutupaboutvinyl: What The Wall Said: An Album You Were Recommended. Sunwatchers - S/T (Castleface, 2016) This was actually recommended to me by a wall! That is, there was a note on the wall at @recordgrouch, one of my favorite shops, that made me very intrigued in this group. This debut album finds them in minimalist power-drone mode - and covering Robert Schuman’s Eusebius. Hit my sweet spot and I’ve been a fan of the band ever since. It’s day 3 of the #vinylobjectchallenge from @vinylalan73 and @paettes: Candle. Owen Maercks - Kinds Of Blue (Feeding Tube, 2019) Although I was a huge fan of Teenage Sex Therapist when it was reissued in 2015, this evidence of a newly (or temporarily) resurgent Maercks passed me by. Lucky to spot it in the wild at Record Grouch as there were only 500 copies pressed. It’s a masterclass in off-kilter blues with dotted lines going to Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, but somehow more fun than either of them. I thought of it for today’s prompt as the second song is called Burnin’ and features appropriately incendiary guitar from the great Henry Kaiser. Ray Charles - Genius Hits The Road (ABC Paramount, 1960) Plucked this out of the sidewalk bin at @recordgrouch a couple of years ago, thinking it was worth it for the cover alone. It turned out to be extremely playable and a fantastic album!
