OOR 2002 - Nr 10 - Rammstein interview
Rammstein
Last December they played three sold-out converts in Amsterdam's HMH, this year they are one of the closing acts at Pinkpop. In June they will play again in the Netherlands, at the Gelredome in Arnhem, which will undoubtedly also be sold out. Rammstein is no longer a band just for sensation-seeking metal fans. The key to their success? The Germans are masters of calculated provocation. Although they will never admit it themselves.
by Danny Koks
In their own country, their records consistently number one on the album charts, they have played in Australia and Japan, and slowly but surely they have reached the U.S. conquered. There people have fallen en masse for Till Lindemann's captured lyrics, distasteful rolling 'r' and the Teutonic thundering cadence that drives the group. The band from the former GDR has now sold two million CDs there, their songs are played on the radio (unique, since not a single American understands German) and they were nominated for a Grammy. An honor that no German act has received since Milli Vanilli (!). The story of guitarist Richard Bernstein, bassist Olli Riedel, drummer Christoph Schneider, guitarist Paul Landers, singer Till Lindemann and keyboardist Flake Lorenz, all from East Berlin, has to be the most bizarre success story of the last fifteen years. be pop music. Perhaps that period is too short. Perhaps Rammstein's glittering international career is just as bizarre as the story of a dimwit from Flanders who, as Eddy Wally 1), scored a killer hit with Cherie as far away as Russia and China. Perhaps even more bizarre.
"The secret of our success is that we have always stayed true to our style. We have refined it here and there over the years, but our music has always remained typical Rammstein, and I think the audience would like to keep it that way. " That is the measured answer from drummer Christoph Schneider, who sits together with Flake Lorenz at the Rammstein management office in eastern Berlin. There is a reason why their answers during the interview are so short and concise. The band members do not like to give us a glimpse into the kitchen of Rammstein and the language barrier therefore serves as an excellent line of defense (they only do interviews in German).
Of course, the success of this band does not lie in the fact that they have remained true to their style. Thousands of bands all over the world remain true to their style and do not go further than the youth club of the neighboring village. Rammstein is so popular because it is a total concept, similar to the Gesamtkunstwerk as envisioned by German composer Richard Wagner. A multimedia total experience that feeds our subconscious fear and hatred for everything German and at the same time holds up a mirror to show us how ridiculous those gut feelings actually are. Who takes all the cliché images (Blut und Boden) that we have about Germans as true and at the same time makes fun of them in a grotesque way. Rammstein plays that game with a velvet technique and at all levels: music (punishment and martial), lyrics (dark and commanding), artwork (cold and distant) and live show (grand and imposing). The Gründlichkeit with which the six Ossies approach this results in a parody of Germans that can only be described in one way: typically German. Thought out from A to Z, Herr Schneider? Of course not: "Rammstein simply makes loud music. We play what we can play and it sounds the way it sounds."
During the day they all had jobs, after all, 'unemployed' did not exist in the dictionary of the German Democratic Republic. Olli was a plasterer, Christoph installed telephones, Paul was a heating engineer, Till woven baskets and Flake made tools. Just as Father State directed all facets of daily life (a well-known expression in Die Ost was 'every second is one of them', referring to the fact that your neighbor could be an informant for the feared secret service), it also had a strong involvement in the existence of amateur musicians. Since living expenses were cheap, they had it relatively easy: one or two performances at the weekend were enough to finance your hobby. Everyone knew everyone, the music circuit was small and well-organized. Oliver Riedel played in the folk band The Inchtabokatables, while Paul Landers and Flake Lorenz scored a premiere with their punk band Feeling B by being the first East German punk band to release an album. Richard Bernstein had a crossover band. In that capacity, the regime left them relatively alone, although they had to be careful not to come across as subversive and anti-totalitarian in their lyrics. When the Wall falls in 1989, the six's first encounter with the free West takes place in the form of West Germany superstar David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider, Baywatch), who stands on the ruins of the tightly drawn concrete border between East and West sing his hit Looking For Freedom. They have no idea who he is. Four years later, Christoph, Olli, Till and Richard decide to turn their backs on their old, moribund bands and start a new one.
"German bands always try to imitate their American and English colleagues," says Christoph Schneider. "We did that in the early days, by mixing hip-hop with hard guitars. You know, what every band on this planet does. That was mainly Richard's idea, we tried to build on his style. But hip-hop, that just had nothing to do with us. We didn't feel anything about it at all." Yet it is the same Richard Bernstein who said about those early days in the Berliner Morgenpost: "I had the opportunity to go to California and experience the bands we imitated up close. Only then did I realize that culture and climate determine what kind of music people make. I returned to Germany and started writing music that is characteristically German." According to Schneider, that picture requires some nuance. "Richard is the most stubborn of the bunch, we always have the most difficulty convincing him of our ideas, especially in the early days. If he had the sole say, the band would sound much softer and poppier. Only when Paul and Flake joined, our current, martial style was born. They had a punk past. That mentality appealed to us much more, as Germans we could at least get along with punk. Richard wants to take credit for the way we make music, but the fact that we sound so German is above all Paul's merit. In the other bands he played in, he also had highly developed ideas about how a band can distinguish itself. He always thinks a lot about that and is in that sense the theorist behind Rammstein. We owe it to him that we were able to muster the courage to take the risks we did then."
The band name was quickly chosen. A year before the fall of the Wall, on August 29, 1988 2), a terrible accident occurs during an air show at the Ramstein military air base, in which a stunt plane crashes into the audience while burning, resulting in seventy deaths. The enormous force of the explosion scorches people in front of the camera. Rammstein, that is. The name is a prime example of the sharpest tool with which the band has become so successful; Rammstein understands the art of calculated provocation like no other. Till Lindemann goes one step further by singing the song Rammstein wrapped in a burning coat. The lyrics ('Ein Mensch brennt/Fleischgeruch lieft in der Luft/ein Kind stirbt/die Sonne scheint') could still be seen as a factual summary of the images of the air disaster, but that coat suddenly puts the song in a completely different, lugubrious and sinister, daylight. Rammstein behaves like an elephant in a china shop, but does so as subtly as a butterfly!
That song in question comes from the debut Herzeleid, which was released in 1997. Artwork (see 'controversies'), lyrics, music and appearance of the band members immediately sparked a heated discussion in Germany about the band's image, which distrusters quickly labeled as 'fascist'. Drummer Christoph Schneider defended Rammstein's creative and musical choices at the time, saying that "we are indeed muscular, have short hair and sing in German, with a rolling 'r' (with which Lindemann, according to some German newspapers, imitates Hitler's way of speaking during speeches). But that does not mean that we are fascists." Later he said in OOR about this smear: "Germans of course struggle with that eternal feeling of guilt. They want to be everything, but please not German. It is very difficult to talk about that without immediately being called a Nazi. Who says: 'I am German', he is a Nazi." The Nazi ghost is persistent, because even during the release of their latest album, Mutter, a student of German literature claimed that the record title is a clear reference to the mother country Germany. Quatsch, says Schneider. "We play with the image people have of Germans. Rammstein comes across as a militaristic band that barks its orders at the audience. We embody how the rest of the world imagines Germany. That image is made up of clichés, many of which are directly related to the war. Yet I see it more like this: we embody everything that has made Germany famous, good and bad."
It may have been the naivety associated with growing up in the isolated GDR that prevented the band from properly sensing how sensitive the Nazi past still is. Yet even after that debut and the wave of criticism that album provoked, Rammstein likes to flirt with his 'right-wing' image, although they continue to claim that they do not do this consciously. Flake: "You can also turn a Britney Spears lyric into a Nazi lyric. Ooops I Did It Again, Hitler...do you see the connection?"
Nevertheless, they use images of Leni Riefenstahl for a video clip (see 'controversies'). And some of Lindemann's choruses show that the Germans can also express their calculated provocation in a more subtle way. Those of Heirate Mich ('Heirate Mich! Hei! Hei! Hei!'), Du Hast ('Du! Du hast! Du hast mich!') and Rein Raus ('Rein? Raus!') do show demagogic traits that are reminiscent of bad times. And when they feel it necessary to convince us of their political color, which they do on Mutter in the song Links 2 3 4, they do so to the sounds of a military march. It is typical of Rammstein to say that their heart beats on the left while the music conjures up images of endless rows of shiny, polished soldiers' boots marching in mechanical step across Unter Den Linden.
The great thing is that the band gets away with flirting with everything that is labeled as rightwing and wrong, and that it can leave people in the dark undisturbed as to whether the six Germans are all serious or not. Rammstein makes grateful use of Till Lindemann's texts. Not one of them (except for the aforementioned Links 2, 3, 4) has a political connotation, with which the singer defuses the situation. On the other hand, they are a perfect vehicle for the band to practice their favorite activity: calculated provocation. The surly, possibly or not genuinely tormented singer emerges in his lyrics as a lugubrious man who, especially on the first two CDs Herzeleid and the 1999 released Sehnsucht, hunts for sexual satisfaction like a predator. On two conditions: it has to be his way and he will not tolerate any objection. In Herzeleid's Weisses Fleisch he tries to find satisfaction in S.M.: 'Du auf dem Schulhof/ich zum Töten bereit/Und keiner hier weiss/von meiner Einsamkeit/Rote Striemen auf weisser Haut/ich tu dir weh/und du pity laut.' Pay particular attention to how one simple word ('Schulhof') gives the song a charge that makes you feel extremely uncomfortable. In Heirate Mich (from the same album) he does this again, by introducing the listener to the world of necrophilia. 'Mit meinen Händen grab ich tief/zu finden was ich so vermisst/ich nehm dich zärtlich in den Arm/doch deine Haut reisst wie Papier/Und Teile fallen von dir ab.' On Sehnsucht he once again explains in detail that he is purely interested in his own satisfaction ('Bück dich befehl ich dir/wende dein Antlitz ab von mir/dein Gesicht ist mir egal'). On the same album he also delves into incest, such as in the song Tier, in which a father sexually assaults his daughter: 'Was macht ein Mann/der zwischen Mensch und Tier niet unterscheiden kann/Er wird zu seiner Tochter gehen/sie ist schön und jung an Jahren/Und dann wird er wie ein Hund/mit eigen Fleisch und Blut sich paaren'. From Speil Mit Mir the following stanza: 'Wir teilen Zimmer und das Bett/Brüderlein komm und sei so nett/Brüderlein komm fass mich an/rutsch ganz ganz dense an mich heran.' Mutter deviates from his predecessors in that Lindemann seems to have moved on from his sexual perversions, except for the song Rein Raus: 'Tiefer tiefer/sag es sag es laut/tiefer tiefer/ich fühl mich wohl in deiner Haut.' The provocation is now found through other channels, such as in the song Ich Will, which, given the earlier accusations of fascist tendencies, has a strikingly popular character: 'Wir wollen dass ihr uns vertraut/wir wollen dass irh uns alles glaubt/Wir wollen eure Hand sehen/wir wollen in Beifall untergehen.' Of course, shivers run down your body when Lindemann cuts Snow White into a morbid fairy tale (Mein Herz Brennt): 'Nun liebe Kinder gebt fein eight/ich bin die Stimme aus dem Kissen/Ich hab euch etwas mitbracht/hab es aus meiner Brust geissen. '
"Pain, suffering and heartbreak have always been a source of inspiration for us," says Christoph Schneider about the lyrics. "When we started the band, we all had relationship problems, some of us even had to leave our children. At that time, music was an outlet for our frustrations for all of us. Ten years have passed and for me personally, suffering plays no role in my life anymore, but for Till it absolutely does. And there are a few band members who have to be in a constant state of pain and sadness in order to feel good. Although I do think that we will slowly have to break new ground if Rammstein is to continue to exist." So to think that the band has become more cautious is a wrong assumption? "Yes, we have always played with ambiguity. In the very beginning we just tried everything. Until we heard the public reactions: 'Can a band make something like that, isn't it all too German?' Should we explain everything or leave our image open without providing any text or explanation? We opted for the latter. This action-reaction dynamic is something we have been dealing with for years now, with public criticism serving as an indicator: If people think we are going too far, then we know we are doing the right thing. Furthermore, it is a matter of remaining brave and saying: Was die Leute finden ist mir scheiss egal. Still, I think we have closed a phase with Mutter. We can't continue to flirt with taboo themes, we have already pushed the boundaries of that."
The fact that Rammstein can cut so undisturbed with his sharpest knife (provocation) is due to their most blunt instrument: the live show, in which they perform a modern variant of Dante's inferno as post-apocalyptic half-zombies. During the Sehnsucht tour, the band members appeared as robots and machines. Their hair is dyed silver, with long coats full of nail studs and rubber and bright blue lenses. Cold and expressionless, they stared into the crowd. Till Lindemann descended onto a trapeze staircase, while jets of fire sparkled from beneath him. he carried flamethrowers shaped like Freddie Krueger fingers. His voice rolled over the audience like a Teutonic march: punishing and unrelenting. He punished himself with a whip, and a little later, using fire-breathing boots, he rolls over cartwheels across the stage. Deep red blood seeped from his silver hair. A woman in angelic robes descended into a rusted steel cage, while flames spouted meters high into the air around her.
The band manages to convey all this with so much seriousness that the few moments in which Rammstein allows you to think that you might also find it all very funny have an even more alienating effect. When the two guitarists and the bassist enter the stage during Wilder Wein with ridiculously large sombreros, for example. Or when Flake goes crowd surfing in a rubber boat. Or, indeed, when the same Flake gets liters of semen sprayed over him by Till (Bück Dich). The band continues to do so happily during their current world tour. For example, large glass jars containing children's corpses are placed on stage in strong water, while at one point Flake appears to be a surgeon under an operating lamp, complete with white coat and doctor's gloves. They themselves of course deny it, but associations with Doctor Mengele still pop into your head completely involuntarily. Don't worry, it's a completely innocent association, because Rammstein is fun. Isn't it? Well, it's not that simple. Compare it to schlager. Watch a schlager program on German TV (Schlagerparade Der Volksmusik is highly recommended) and you will see the similarities. The singers from Tyrol and Bavaria look terribly out of place in their lederhosen and dirndl dresses, with their undeniable Prodent 3) smile and blow-dried hair in front of plywood sets of snow-capped mountain peaks, alpine meadows full of flowers and log cabins. But damn, they still really like it. Flake: "There is humor in what we do, but it has crept in completely involuntarily. People see us as something comical, but that has never been our intention." Christoph: "What we are playing now sounds authentic to our ears, we can identify with this. What we make is what we feel inside, what we experience as real. We bring comedic subjects with complete seriousness, that is our craft. Till brings ridiculous topics into the spotlight with a deadly serious face and dramatically accented voice. We like that. It's good to keep people in the dark." Oh well, otherwise Rammstein can still use the excuse, entirely in German tradition: Es sei nur ein Scherz gewesen.
Five controversies surrounding Rammstein
1. Artwork Herzeleid
On their debut CD Herzeleid from 1997, the six band members are depicted bare-chested against a background of a gigantic orange-yellow sunflower. The taut and oiled chest muscles, the short, severely shaved haircuts, the separation of band members by hair color (brown on the right, blond on the left); everything indicated that, according to the Rammstein critics, the Berlin band presented itself here as a representative of a new, superior Men's race. With this, the six made a giant swing across the political spectrum: from ex-communists to neo-Nazis in the space of a month.
2. Arrest
On Saturday, June 5, 1999, singer Till Lindemanne and keyboardist Flake Lorenz were arrested immediately after a performance in Worcester, Massachusetts. The scene during Bück Dich in which Lindemann stood behind a bending Lorenz to simulate anal sex with a strap-on dildo, rubbed local law enforcement officers the wrong way. They handcuffed the two, who then had to spend the night in jail and were released after paying bail (25 dollars).
3. Wrong timing
At the moment Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terror organization forced two hijacked passenger planes into the WTC buildings, Rammstein's members were also in the air. They set course for the United States to continue their world tour. All aircraft that were in the air at that time and flying towards America had to immediately turn around, including Rammstein's. However, all the necessary stage equipment had already been flown over, so a week after September 11, the Germans toured America with a show full of fireworks, meter-high flames and explosions.
4. Stripped
Rammstein recorded the song Stripped in 1998 for a Depeche Mode tribute CD (For The Masses) (later also on the Australian tour edition of Sehnsucht). For the accompanying video clip they used images from Leni Riefenstahl's Olympia documentary about the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936. Riefenstahl was Hitler's court filmmaker. Goldie and Asian Dub Foundation were the first musicians to publicly accuse Rammstein (MTV, NME) of having Nazi sympathies. Fellow Berliner Alec Empire (Atari Teenage Riot) had a more nuanced opinion but did say: "You can't use Riefenstahl's footage and then say it was just a joke. My grandfather died in a concentration camp, so forgive me if I here don't see the joke." Richard Bernstein subsequently stated that the band had used the images purely for aesthetic reasons. "We thought they were beautiful images. That's probably what people in the cinema thought at the time: beautiful images."
5. Columbine
Painfully topical given the terrible shooting at a gymnasium in Erfurt. Two years earlier, on April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot and killed twelve students and a teacher and then themselves at Columbine High School in Litteleton, Colorado. The perpetrators are said to have been incited to their actions by the music and lyrics of Rammstein and Marilyn Manson; right-wing and Christian groups immediately called for a ban on both bands. Christoph: "It was put that simply, but of course it is not that simple at all. Typical of American politics to point to one guilty party in their world where everything is black and white." Flake: "It's fortunate for us that Osama bin Laden is not a Rammstein fan."
--
1) Eddy Wally was a Belgian singer who enjoyed some popularity among 'regular' folks, but to 'critical music journalist' made pretty much the epitomy of 'tacky' music. Being Belgian is for some Dutch a source for ridicule in itself.
2) Nitpicking but the airshow disaster in Ramstein took place on August 28 (not 29) 1988
3) Prodent is big brand of toothpaste in the Netherlands

Korean Song Interpretation: Stray Kids - "BLIND SPOT" & "SOCIAL PATH"
"They only look at the results and success. Blinded by our glowing process. What you see isn't everything. Hidden in the blind spot." – Stray Kids, "BLIND SPOT"
I can finally put my feet on Han Jisung's shoes. Look at how Stray Kids are getting a bigger recognition lately. Millions of copies of the album have sold. Debuted at the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Topped Genie chart & Billboard 200. No wonder the rapper got overwhelmed by his emotion after "BLIND SPOT" recording, 3rd track in their latest album ROCK-STAR. Bet he didn't expect those new achievements, tho.
But as they grow higher, the more wind blows them up. I've seen a lot of people discredit their hard work. Call them cheating and yada yada. Turns out it was wrong. Stray Kids told the listeners about that blind spot area through "SOCIAL PATH", a song they sang with anime OST queen, LiSA.
"Gave up my youth for my future," said Felix in the intro. Then Han told us more in the first verse, "If it's the youth everyone talks about, I've endured countless temptations."
The rest of the song shows how uncomfortable the path they took to be in their position right now. They describe themselves as "ore in a blas furnace who turned into a tough metal". I love how powerful the chorus lyrics are:
𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘐'𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺
"𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵," 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦
𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨
𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮
𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺
𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺
𝘕𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘴, 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯'
𝘋𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘥, 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩
Shine brighter, my Stray Kids ✨

[ENG TRANS LYRICS]Sejeong - What My Heart Says (Record of Youth OST Part.9)
Lyricsts: Nam Hyeseung, Surf Green Composers: Nam Hyeseung, Surf Green Arranged by: Surf Green I’m curious of your heart I wonder how you are Again, I thought of you all day today Weirdly it gets more hazy Disappearing into places more and more Like this, I’m left alone At some point I live inside your heart Due to your image, I continue to remain Often times I fall asleep with the thoughts of you And during those times, you extend your warm hand out in my dreams My heart said so That it honestly hurts Again, I roam around your side today Again, like this I go closer to you due to the longing I stop at the place you’re at I remain in your world At some point You live inside my heart Your memories force me to move Sometimes on days that I wait for you The words you said to me It’s still engraved into my heart Should I grab you again Honestly I’m scared That I might be left alone tomorrow once more And long for you I can see your heart That’s why it hurts I guess you’re living inside my heart today as well At all times I live inside your heart Due to your image, I continue to remain Often times I fall asleep with the thoughts of you And during those times, you extend your warm hand out in my dreams Translated by: Yubseyo

With You (For Breakfast and Forever)
LOL hi yes I’m still alive, just fell off the face of the earth and accidentally wrote my first JiKook fic (yes it’s a songfic - it’s inspired by Jimin’s first OST WIth You, which dropped yesterday and is breaking records left and right. Do yourself a favor and go listen to it). So I’m just going to drop this here - I’m not tagging anyone since this isn’t a Bucky fic and idk if anyone is interested in this (except @jamesbarnesappreciationsociety - surprise!) But you should be. Jimin and Jungkook are amazing and they have my whole heart. Just saying.
Moodboard by the incredibly talented @promisenolies (sorry, too lazy to get your bird account so tumblr credit will have to do)
When Jungkook begins to wake, he does the first thing he always does when consciousness first eclipses sleep; he reaches for his moon, his light. His angel.
His reason.
He lets out a noise that’s something between a whine and a groan when his searching fingers find nothing but cool sheets and four scattered pillows to his right. The lack of an answering whine tells him Bam isn’t in the room either – undoubtably with Jimin.
“Traitors,” he mutters into his pillow before lifting one eyelid just enough to take a glimpse at the clock on Jimin’s nightstand. It’s 9:08; certainly not early by normal standards, but it’s Sunday. Their favorite day when they aren’t touring, Sundays are for being lazy with one another, for whispers and slow cuddles while binging their favorite shows, for taking their time worshipping one another. And pancakes. Jungkook’s pout slowly transforms into a smile.
He stretches before finally getting out of bed, then pulls on a pair of cotton pajama pants. He misses Jimin, so he doesn’t bother spending the time looking for a shirt. The second he steps through their bedroom door, though, he stops. He’s in a hurry, but Jimin’s angelic voice is softly resonating in the hallway and he can’t help but stop and listen.
Just take it all
I’m nothing without your love
I promise I’ll never leave your love
My heart is beating ’cause of you
Jungkook closes his eyes and smiles. He knows Jimin is singing softly to not disturb him, but that doesn’t change the perfect tone, or the way the lyrics - carried by Jimin’s voice – intertwine themselves intimately within Jungkook’s soul. He swears his partner’s voice could heal any wound; emotional, psychological, or physical, it doesn’t matter. His singing is the remedy.
There’s a soft rustling of paper, and Jungkook remembers that Jimin is recording tomorrow – and suddenly it makes sense why he woke up alone. Jimin has probably been up for hours practicing, making notes on his sheet music, and trying to perfect the English pronunciations.
He pads softly down the hallway, not wanting to interrupt his love’s concentration but also unable to stay away any longer. But, as usual, when he turns the corner and lays eyes upon the one he adores, his heart stops and so does he.
Jimin stands at the counter, gently swaying and humming the melody softly to himself as he writes a note on a page Jungkook assumes holds the lyrics. He’s wearing the oversized Mickey and Minnie tee shirt Jungkook bought him while on their Tokyo trip – it’s got no less than three holes in it and has started to fade with how often it’s been worn and washed, but Jimin refuses to throw it away, even though Jungkook has promised to buy him a new one. He’s barefoot, wearing black sweatpants with just one leg hiked up to his knee, and he’s pulled half his hair back in a high ponytail while his youth tattoo plays peekaboo from behind his ear and the strands of hair that managed to escape being pulled back. Barefaced but still wearing the earrings he hadn’t taken out from yesterday, Jungkook’s heart clenches with how soft Jimin looks. He didn’t think it was possible to love someone this much, but it is. It is.
Then there’s the mess – Jimin is a decent cook, but he’s walking chaos in the kitchen. There’s a handprint shaped smear of flour on Jimin’s sweatpants, a light dusting of flour on the floor next to the stove and in Jimin’s hair, and almost every mixing bowl they own has been pulled out and placed on the countertop. Flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, oil, butter, and vanilla are scattered all around in a way that makes absolutely no sense to Jungkook. The pan on the stovetop is already preheating, and there’s a bowl of batter sitting next to it.
And then there’s Bam, lying on the kitchen floor – close to Jimin but not so close as to be in the way – and gazing so intently with adoration at Jimin that he doesn’t even notice Jungkook standing in the doorway until he feels his owner’s glare.
Jungkook raises his brows and, after giving a silent command, he manages to hold in his laughter at his dog’s guilty expression at having been caught. Bam glances at Jimin then back to Jungkook before rising and walking out to the doorway – he knows he’s not supposed to be in the kitchen, but Jimin usually lets him get away with it. Jungkook isn’t mad, but right now he just wants Jimin to himself.
Jimin puts down the sheet music and turns to the stove and begins carefully plopping spoonfuls of batter into the hot pan. When he starts singing again, Jungkook’s feet move of their own volition.
I wanna be with you
And I wanna stay with you
Just like the stars shining bright
You’re glowing once more
As Jimin softly sings the last line, Jungkook gently puts his hands on Jimin’s hips. Jimin, who probably knew Jungkook was there the whole time because he’s always been able to just sense him, leans his back into Jungkook’s chest before grabbing the other’s hands from his hips and pulling them to wrap around him.
Jungkook pauses only to press a reverent kiss to the moon tattoo at the back of his lover’s neck before he puts his lips to Jimin’s ears and begins singing the next verse, because of course he knows it. They’ve been singing this song together for weeks, practicing and perfecting it as though Jungkook were recording the other half of the duet with Jimin.
Right here beside you, I’m still
Walking wherever you go
You will live forever in me
Breathing deeply, within me
They stay like that, swaying softly as Jungkook sings the other half of the duet, until Jimin giggles.
“What is it with you and pancakes?”
Jungkook nips Jimin’s ear, “It’s got nothing to do with the pancakes and everything to do with you, Jiminie. And you know that." He was trying to sound all serious, maybe even sexy, but can’t help but huff out a laugh. “The pancakes are just a bonus.”
Jimin turns in his arms and wraps a hand around the back of Jungkook’s neck to pull him in for a kiss. “Are you sure? Because you sure get all hot and bothered when I make pancakes.”
Jungkook gasps in fake indignation. “I will have you know that I am not all hot and bothered.” He pauses. “Well maybe a little. But I can’t help it, I’m with you. But overall I am feeling romantic, thank you very much.”
Jimin smiles and starts singing the first half of the chorus, and Jungkook harmonizes perfectly. Their voices blend together as seamlessly as their minds, hearts, and souls, so neither is surprised to find themselves singing and slow dancing around the kitchen.
Bam lets out a low whine, but neither pay him any attention. They finish the song, then start again after a deep kiss. “Practice makes perfect, right?”
Jimin’s more than a little breathless when he answers, “Yes, Jungkookie, you’re absolutely right.” If there’s more kissing than singing this time around, who would complain?
The pancakes. The pancakes complain. Loudly.
They were so wrapped up in one another that neither noticed how the atmosphere in the kitchen was turning hazy. The smoke from their intensely burned breakfast sets off the smoke detector, and Jimin dissolves into helpless laughter when Jungkook scrambles to climb up on the countertop in order to reach the screeching smoke detector. He manages to untwist it from its holder and tosses it to Jimin, who briefly fumbles it before shoving it into the drawer holding the dishtowels. Finally the shrieking stops.
Jungkook, from his place standing on their granite countertop, looks down at his partner. Jimin, who laughs with such joy. His Jimin, who is in no position to help Jungkook down from the counter because he himself has collapsed to the floor, one arm flung over his eyes and one across his probably aching stomach. Jungkook can’t contain his grin as he climbs down, shuts off the burner, places the pan into the sink, and slides down to sit beside his still giggling partner.
The moment Jungkook is seated, Jimin suddenly sobers and sits up straight.
“Do you think we beat her?” he whispers, but it’s comically loud in the sudden silence.
Jungkook stills and listens very, very carefully. His whisper is equally loud, “I don’t think I hear sirens; and we would by now if she called. I think we did it.”
Jimin’s eyes grow wide. “We got the smoke detector turned off before Mrs. Kim called the fire department.”
Jungkook nods in disbelief at their shared accomplishment. “I think we did!” He raises his hand and Jimin immediately gives him a high five. “For the first time since we moved in, we were faster than her!” They break out into a seated victory dance, stopping only when Jimin sees Bam’s judgmental stare.
“Aww, you tried to warn us, didn’t you Bam.” The dog allows himself a small whine in the back of his throat, but doesn’t move from his spot in the entryway. Bam knows his dad probably won’t let him in the kitchen unless he’s distracted by his other dad.
Jungkook smiles with pride. “It’s not your fault we didn’t listen. Good boy, Bam.” The dog’s tail starts thumping against the floor as he begins to move, so Jungkook continues, “No, you may not come in here.” With another whine, Bam lays his head back on his paws.
Jimin gracefully rises from the floor and holds out a hand to help his partner up. “I can still make us pancakes, Jungkookie.” His smile is still bright and he’s still practically glowing from all the laughter. He’s always beautiful but right now, barefaced and joyful, he’s beyond ethereal.
Jungkook pulls Jimin close and whispers, “I know, baby.” And he does – he noticed quite a while ago that Jimin started scaling up the recipe to compensate for the first batch always being burned. “And I want some. But right now, I want you more.”
And since there aren’t any pancakes burning to a crisp to ruin the moment, Jungkook waits until Jimin’s arms are wrapped around his neck before reaching down, grabbing Jimin by the back of his thighs, and hiking him up into his arms.
Bam watches in the doorway and heaves a disappointed sigh as his dad carries his other dad into their bedroom. It’s going to be awhile before his humans will want to play with him. But that’s okay. His dads got him a new stuffie to destroy.
The following day, Jungkook goes with Jimin to the recording studio. When Jimin records the song, it’s with Jungkook mouthing the words to the other part from the other side of the window.

Notable 2020 Video Game Soundtracks That Can Be Enjoyed As Standalone Experiences
Video Game Music is gaining recognition, with many soundtracks receiving vinyl pressings, orchestral concert reviews, and an increasing presence on music streaming platforms such as bandcamp and Spotify. We’re also witnessing the uprise of indie video game development teams where games are being made by the sort of passionate type of game designer that takes soundtracks seriously. Soundtracks by small teams of developers such as Celeste, Undertale, Disco Elysium, Hollow Knight, RuneScape, and Lisa: The Joyful are titles with soundtracks that easily stand up against the likes of bigger budget productions made by reliable sources of video game music like Square-Enix and Nintendo.
2020 is no exception in terms of having one of the biggest budget soundtracks around with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which builds upon a legacy of industry-standard-creating soundtrack work. Taken as a whole, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s soundtrack is clocking in at over 8 and half hours of music. The soundtrack has three composers with the Beethoven of video game music, Nobuo Uematsu, most notably coming out of retirement to get the job done. Here are some other amazing 2020 video game soundtracks more conducive for standalone background listening:
TETRIS EFFECT by HYDELIC
Genres: EDM, Ambient Pop and straight up Ambient
Describing this album makes me feel like I’m some sort of burnt out fanciful raver, head permanently lodged in the clouds. The level of giddy technicolor enthusiasm rivals that of Icelandic Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi, but if he wanted to keep his post-rock firmly planted in the outdoor music festival on Mars territory. Despite the album’s notable two hours runtime, each and every song feels like its own uniquely crafted composition, no repetitive motifs or nostalgia-baiting.
There is unfortunately still a Tetris movie in some sort of shaggy state of development in Hollywood right now. The movie is being billed as a dull biopic about the creator of the Tetris game. Whereas listening to Tetris Effect you imagine a Tetris movie directed by someone more fitting like the Wakowskis. Tetris Effect’s opening song “Connected (Yours Forever)” is a bonafide vocal pop song, like a more sugary CVRCHES-style cooing of the lyrics:
“I’m Yours Forever
There is No End in Sights For Us,
Nothing Can Measure the Kind of Strength Inside Our Hearts,
It’s all connected we’re all together in this life, don’t you forget it
We’re all connected in this”
Try your best not to imagine a cast of Hollywood’s most beautiful plucky orphan mutant misfit youths using the power of Tetris to heal a broken and dying planet!
Notable Track: Next Chapter

HADES by DARREN KORB
Genres: Progressive Metal, Folktronica, Folk Metal, Dimotika, Greek Folk Music
Darren Korb has become one of the most notable video game composers of the past decade. Korb, an integral member of the Supergiant family, continues to outdo himself with each and every soundtrack. Bastion and Transistor originally found Korb creating a niche for himself with downtempo folk-infused electronic soundscapes and even some vocal pop with collaborator Ashley Barrett. Hades is an altogether different beast for Korb, who much like the developers of Hades, have found themselves at the height of their powers.
Korb also contributes vocals on this album, and I can say without hesitation that these are some of the nicest vocals I’ve ever heard from a video game music designer, because video game musicians are bonafide musicians. The album clocks in at two and half hours and separate from its game is still an absolute thrill ride.
Notable Track: In The Blood
---------
DEFECTIVE HOLIDAY by MECHATOK
Genres: Ambient Trance, Balearic Beat, Progressive Electronic, Nature Recordings, Spoken Word, New Age
One glance at the album artwork is all it took for me to know that I must listen to this album. Defective Holiday is an indie walking simulator that is explicit about its intentions: a lightly interactive one hour experience. This soundtrack clocks in at only 31 minutes and it is purely the most conventional album in terms of length.
Last week in late November, Mechatok announced a collaboration with one of the leading zoomer Swedish cloud rap mavericks Bladee, the cofounder of the Drain Gang. Last month gives a pretty clear picture of what kind of circles Mechatok is floating in on. Highly online gonzo vaporwave maestro James Ferraro is another apparent influence on this soundtrack, especially regarding the way the sinister mundane dialogue is woven into the soundscape. There’s one particular track on the Defective Holiday OST, “Rescue Shot Buibo”, that is adorned with standard trap-style drum fills that give the album a shot of energy before wandering back off into the haze. This soundtrack and video game is all about the pure vibe and aesthetic nature that are currently trending in these extremely stressful times. In a time where all of our holidays were defective from the very start, I think the casual walking simulator will remain a genre high in demand. I have a feeling we’re going to hear a lot more from this empathetic young German.
Notable Track: Valley
---------
Last of Us II by Gustavo Santaolalla, Mac Quayle (and Ashley Johnson)
Genres: Ambient, Cinematic Classical, Dark Ambient, Spanish Folk Music
L
The Last Of Us is a horror game where the music itself is arguably playing a critical character role, which can only be expected billing two titans of audio visual soundtracks. Of course Academy Award winner Santaolalla knows his way around a soundtrack. Wielding a resume of astonishing versatility in various TV and film projects, he might have found his higher calling in not only video games but in the horror music canon. Last of Us is an extremely emotional series, and with the wrong soundtrack, the experience could become insufferably bleak. The occasional splashes of color and light are what make this soundtrack so unsettling and eerie. Not since Silent Hill 2’s Akira Yamaoka has there been such an effective standalone horror video game soundtrack experience. No wonder Gustavo Santaolalla is one of the only video game composers integral enough to the game to warrant a cameo banjo-playing character model based off of him.
As if having one major composer from prestigious TV and movies wasn’t enough, Mac Quayle, composer of the whole Mr. Robot series, contrasts against Santaolalla’s acoustic contributions. The soundtrack itself is sequenced in a way that switches between the two composers. “The Cycle of Violence” composed by Quayle, a track that more than lives up to its name, is immediately followed by Santaolalla’s somber “Reclaimed Memories.” This dance between violence and heart is what the Last of Us excels at as a franchise, and that is why this soundtrack is an effective stand-alone experience.
The only disappointing part of the soundtrack is that Ashley Johnson, voice actor of Ellie’ three songs, is not included in the game’s official tracklist. Ellie’s “Take On Me” a-ha and “Future Days” Pearl Jam covers have made a little history by being the most powerful songs sung by a video game character. When Ellie sings and plays on her guitar they aren’t some little Easter egg idling moments to provide levity for this heavy revenge horror story. These songs are used to make some of the strongest character development choices made by a video game character seen in recent years. Ellie is joining a small club of singing video game characters alongside Parapa the Rapper and maybe the cast of obscure Atlus title Rhapsody: Musical Adventure.
Notable Track: Unbroken
---------
Persona 5 Royal Straight Flush Edition by Shoji Meguro
Genre: Acid Jazz, Alternative Rock, Alternative Metal, Lounge, Jazz-Funk
This is one of those soundtracks that, much like Nobuo Uematsu’s work in Final Fantasy, is really the heart and soul of the entire Persona franchise (and his work in the adjacent Shin Megami Tensei universe is equally as noteworthy). Persona 5 Royal finds Meguro making his most complete, funky, and otherworldly opus that sounds like no one else in the biz.
You will find many people online scouring message boards, subreddits, bandcamp features, and Yahoo Answers looking for more music like Persona 5. Outside of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, how many other games are packed to the brim with truly foxy songs!? Persona 5 could not predict how badly the title “Throw Away Your Mask” would age, despite the game being more than ahead of its time with the majority of NPCs wearing PPE. Be a good Joker, put on your mask and keep chasing Meguro’s acid jazz-infused dragon through many more semesters to come.
Notable Track: I Imagine
---------
Streets of Rage 4 by Olivier Deriviere & Various
Genres: Electro House, Nu Jazz, Synth Funk, Acid House
Composer Olivier Deriviere is a living definition of a video game soundtrack journeyman. He has a career stretching back to the early 2000s working on notable big budget titles like the divisive 2008 Atari fifth Alone in the Dark installment and Remember Me, an unsung buried gem from the PS3/360 era Capcom title. Remember Me is where Deriviere’s electronic leanings started becoming especially prominent in his sound. On the Streets of Rage 4 soundtrack Deriviere has completely come into his own element, developing a whole new sense of campy playfulness.
Electronic French House music can be a divisive genre. For every Daft Punk commercial success there is a band that ruffles feathers like Justice. I sense a strong presence of late departed French House titan Philippe Zdar of Cassius as well. If you’d played this soundtrack for me out of context, I would have guessed an obscure voguing tape from the 80s or a really talented mysterious DJ set. Instead, this is a sequel to a classic beat em up franchise that left a portion of players disappointed by the game’s four hour playtime. The soundtrack is over an hour and fifty minutes long of high octane House music bliss. Much like the Tetris Effect soundtrack, it is truly impressive how much depth these tracks have when they could have easily been nostalgic recycled beats. Sometimes a game’s soundtrack can offer more post game enjoyment than an actual game.
Notable Track: Chill Or Don’t
---------
Hylics 2 by Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth
Genres: Experimental Rock, Neo-Psychedelia, Hypagogic Pop, Stoner Rock, Jazz-Rock
A soundtrack that comes closest to capturing the experience of hearing the Earthbound or Katamari Damacy soundtracks for the first time. The Hylic indie RPG series is a wonderful and strange beast that is ready to frolic and show its playful side. Hylics is a part of a recent uprising of indie games being developed on the RPG Maker software. 2020 year has left us all with variations of the same stressed out adjectives: Weird. Messed Up. Surreal.
Why not listen to an album from a game that is the perfect embodiment of that surreal mantra? Step away from your computer, draw a bath, and put this album on. Thank me later!
Notable track: Xeno Arcadia
---------
Ultrakill: Infinite Hyperdeath (Act I Soundtrack) by Heaven Pierce Her aka game developer Arsi “Hakita” Patala
Genres: Drum and Bass, Industrial Metal, Ambient, Progressive Metal, Acidcore
Nothing says “modern indie game development” more than a game built completely from the ground up by one person. Ultrakill’s developer “Hakita” is one of those kindly folkloric DIY figures that make video games such an extensive art form. The game is a painstaking gloriously bloody ode to Dooms of yesteryear but with plenty of its own fine tuned style. The perfect soundtrack for when you’re painting your personal Hell a darker shade of gore, but also would really like to kick your ass into shape if you need an adrenaline boost to your Quarantine blues.
Notable Track: Panic Betrayer
---------
Risk of Rain 2 by Chris Christodoulou
Genres: Progressive Rock, Space Rock, Space Ambient, Post-Rock
Something about the country of Greece brings the best kind of futurism out of the country’s composers. Christodoulou’s Risk of Rain 2 soundtrack is no Bladerunner knock off. This soundtrack for the colorful sci-fi indie rougelike is punchier and less nocturnal than your typical synth-heavy sci-fi soundtrack. Risk of Rain is one of the more successful Kickstarter series around and has the best quality an indie game can have: it feels like a labor of love on all fronts. There’s no reason a rougelike like Rain of Ruin or Hades needs a soundtrack this good, but Christodoulou casts a spell with his electronic-driven prog rock that makes you want to keep respawning. A huge missed opportunity if Christodoulou does not get to soundtrack an earnest sci-fi action-adventure for even big screens. Oh! This soundtrack also features some spoken word segments from Werner Herzog; what more do you need to know?
Notable Track: The Rain Formerly Known As Purple
---------
Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus by Guillaume David
A big debut project from an up-and-coming composer Guillaume David. Prior to the making of this soundtrack, David was a video game voice actor who worked on a Resident Evil Devil May Cry crossover voicing the character of “Hunk.” Warhammer 40K might become a franchise that more people will care about solely based on the quality of this installment’s soundtrack. When you see the title Warhammer 40,000, what sort of sounds come to mind? If you guessed “Neo gothic cyber Gregorian chants that seamlessly melds the ancient and futuristic”, you would be correct. A turn-based action game could possibly fall into dull territory, but with a visual identity as strong as Warhammer 40K melded with a suitable musical atmosphere, the action and world becomes irresistible. This soundtrack is a brisk 56 minutes and the other soundtrack on this list with a more conventional runtime. Not a second is wasted on this dynamic and fantastical soundtrack. Prior to hearing this soundtrack I had no intention of ever looking into playing a game based off of something as convoluted as Warhammer 40K, but now I very much want to know what these robot priests are about. That’s the magic of a quality soundtrack.
Notable track: Millenial Rage

My top 10 korean drama OSTs of 2020
There were so many good OSTs this year!! As always I limited my choices to one per drama otherwise half of the list would be from Do you like Brahms? And the other half from The King.
10. Joy-Introduce me a good person. Hospital Playlist was one of the most popular dramas of the year. The second OST they released was this one from Red Velvet's Joy and it lasted months in the charts. An easy listening, mid tempo ballad with Joy's sweet vocals. Check out Cho Jung Seok's Aloha, Kyuhyun's Confession is not flashy and Urban Zakapa's Beautiful my love.
9. Luna-Take me now. This song from Forest has an interest beat and of course Luna hits some really pretty notes.
8. Kyuhyun-All day long. Honestly the drama When the weather is fine was just not my kind of thing but I really loved this song. Kyuhyun's falsetto is just too sweet on this one. This is really the typical kdrama ballad.
7. BAEKHYUN-Every second. In 2020, Baekhyun sang four OSTs all of which could've made my list. This is my favorite from Record of youth, a drama that for me had its ups and downs but released some great OSTs from Chung Ha, iKON's BOBBY, Lee Hi and SEVENTEEN's Seung Kwang. However the melody of Every second is just so good.
6. Crush-No words. Itaewon Class had some really interesting OSTs and I know Gaho's Start was more popular but it was Crush's No words I really obsessed about. The lyrics are something special.
5. CHEN-Your moonlight. Honestly I'm not sure if I chose this one because I'm biased or not because there were so many good OSTs from Do you like Brahms? I loved. TAEYEON's Kiss me is so beautiful. Baekhyun's Happy and Punch's Love Me were also stand outs. Midnight by Heize featuring Punch though was the one I would choose if I wasn't obsessed with this amazing ballad by Chen.
4. Jooyoung-Here we are. This was the first OST that was released for the drama Find me in your memory and it was used so much that the moment when the guitar starts I immediately think of this drama. A memory in my heart by Yangpa is also worth a listen.
3. BAEKHYUN-On the road. For me this is the best OST Baekhyun released this year and it was for the drama Hyena. An intense song for an intense drama. The chorus is strong and yet it's Baekhyun's falsetto that I enjoy the most.
2. Zion.T- I just want to stay with you. The King had so many good OSTs and it was so hard to choose between this one and Davichi's Please don't cry but at the end of the day this song by Zion.T is just too good. The melody of the chorus is just so epic. If you have time check out the rest of the OSTs especially Hwa Sa's Orbit, Ha Sung Woon's I fall in love, Gaeko ft Kim Na Young's Heart Break and Gravity by Kim Jon Wan.
1. Heize-You're cold. This song from It's okay not to be okay is just great. It's not your typical kdrama ballad, the beat is so good and Heize's rapping/singing is just on point. From this drama, check out Got you by Ga Eun, Suhyun's In your time and Janeth Suh's I'm your psycho.

BTS' V To Unveil Jazz Pop Collaboration “Winter Ahead (with Park Hyo Shin)”
Rosa Gulliver of TINYGMUSIC | November 22, 2024
V (Kim Taehyung) announces the release of his new digital single, "Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)."
Through an announcement today via the global fandom platform Weverse and BTS' official social media channels, BIGHIT MUSIC revealed that V’s digital single "Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)" will soon be released, continuing his tradition of releases that evoke the feeling of winter, such as "Snow Flower," "Christmas Tree," and "wherever u r (ft. V of BTS)." This year, V returns with a collaboration that perfectly captures the end-of-year spirit with South Korean ballad singer Park Hyo Shin, known for his powerful and emotive voice. Their voices come together to beautifully capture the warmth and nostalgia of the season.
“Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)” was inspired by V’s wish for his fans to have a warm and joyful winter. A jazz enthusiast, V reached out to Park Hyo Shin, with whom he has a longstanding friendship, to propose the idea of creating a winter-themed single. Park Hyo Shin happily took part to create a jazz pop track that reflects both of their tastes, shaped by thoughtful development and careful attention to every detail over time.
The evocative lyrics were written by Jesse Harris, known for penning Norah Jones' hit "Don’t Know Why." The poetic words blend seamlessly with the warm melody, while the smooth, soothing vocals of V and Park Hyo Shin bring a comforting sense of warmth to listeners.
Setting the stage for the holiday season, “Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)” arrives just one week before the highly anticipated release of “White Christmas (with V of BTS),” V’s duet with the legendary Bing Crosby, dropping on December 6. “White Christmas,” originally released in 1942 by Bing Crosby and beloved worldwide, will be brought to life again by V with his unique touch to this timeless classic to deliver warmth and joy just in time for the holidays.
“Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)” will be available on all streaming platforms worldwide on November 29 at 2 PM KST.

[Weekly OST] GFRIEND SINB "Sinb’s version of 'Loveable', Sweet charm" (Interview)
“Weekly OST” is a corner where we would talk about the OST released within a week that draws our attention amongst the one released this week. “I’m hoping a lot of people to have ‘Oh, Sinb also have this sweet and fluttering emotion too’ kind of reaction.” GFRIEND’s Sinb who sings an OST for KakaoM Original Drama ‘A Love So Beautiful’ said. Sinb’s ‘Loveable’ is a remake of a hit song by Kim Jongkook that was released in 2005. Sinb told E-Daily, “I feel honored to sing a remake song that I listened a lot since I was a child and I also feel happy to be given the chance to sing an OST.”
‘워 머리부터 발끝까지 다 사랑스러워 (You’re loveable from head to toe) / 워 니가 나의 남자라는 게 자랑스러워 (I feel proud to have you as my man) / 기다림이 즐겁고 이젠 공기마저 달콤해 (Waiting for you is fun, even the air is sweet ) / 이렇게 너를 사랑해 (I love you like this) -♪’ - (t/n: Loveable lyrics) Sinb gives a different charm and emotion to the song who tells a story about the thrill of first love with her clear voice. The Melo-mance Jung Donghwan who received a lot of love with songs such as ‘Gift’, ‘Greetings’, ‘Festival’ was in charge of the arrangement of the song.
Sinb said, “I remember I have a lot of thoughts about how should I sing a very well-known song with my own feeling.” She added, “I want people to feel the ticklish and emotional feeling when the song comes out in the drama. I focus on that point when I sing it.”
The drama "A Love So Beautiful" is a romance that depicts the story of Shin Sol-yi (So Ju-yeon), a cheerful high school girl, Cha-Heon (Kim Yo-han), his next-door childhood friend, and friends who shared their youth with them for 17 years. "Loveable" sung by SinB was made as Shin Sol-yi's theme song. The song lyrics match Sol-yi's feeling where she found Cha-Heon is lovely from head to toe.
SinB looked back on the preparation process, saying, "I looked up YouTube videos so that I could capture my emotions well in the song, and I also asked my friend who enjoys watching dramas." She added, "As much as I tried to sing the song as sweet as possible, I hope people who listen to the song will feel fluttered.”
‘Loveable is released on January 18, 2021. Not only the song, but they also release a video of the recording and an interview. Sinb said, “I haven’t sing an OST for a long time, I hope Buddy will listen to it. And I also hope that you can spend the upcoming spring freshly with my version of ‘Loveable’.“ “After finishing the year-end concert, I enjoy my days off and doing my best to take care of myself while preparing for the next promotion.” Sinb explained. To finish up, she said. “I should do the best for the album promotion in the new year. I hope that the day when I can see Buddy will come very soon.”
