L.A Hallucinations - Carly Rae Jepsen: I was busy being annoyed that I'm not going to be in town for CRJ rooftop concert that's happening this summer, decided to relisten to Emotion. Got into this song, which I couldn't have named before last week. Probably helps that I recently finished writing a bit of a fic that involved two idiots in LA.

Light On - Maggie Rogers: an older favorite, just fell into a mood of looping it.

About Damn Time - Lizzo: i've never really gotten into any of her other songs, but this is a bop.

Never To Return - Pyre OST: very much made every liberation rite in Pyre feel as epic as it was in universe, with all the hope and dread that entailed

bottom line - Lilli Furfaro: all of her mighty nein songs are fantastic, but of course I have a soft spot for beau's. that you can hear the pattern of her pop-pop punches in it, the way it so well represents beau's pov of short sudden thoughts revealing skilled observation, and trying to wrangle her instincts into purpose

Helplessly Hoping - Crosby, Stills & Nash: looped it for TLOU reasons, got into it

Stray Italian Greyhound - Vienna Teng: I know, I know, but Ted Lasso ending made me rewatch that one Rebecca vid and so, the song about the charmed cynic once more wins again.

Ultralife - Oh Wonder: another one from a vid I saw once, and the "blood running in my veins / i've never been here before" moments are particularly good for a lot of fannish feelings

Repeat After Me - Kongos: the rhythm of this crawled into my spine and stayed there

In the “more posts like this” panel under your reblog, reconditarmonia, were several posts from 2016 showing this is a rerun. Back then it was “leftists” refusing to vote for Hillary Clinton because she was insufficient for their desires, and they thought that allowing Trump to win would spur such a groundswell of leftist activism that it would course correct the US, shove the Overton window back to some magical more progressive time they’ve imagined and blah blah blah.

And now here we are with the exact same kind of people making the exact same argument that allowing Donald Trump to win will magically create leftist progress.

The same leftist progress that never materialized at all when he was allowed to win in 2016 — before a pandemic that killed a million Americans and disabled at least 10 million more, before a summer of mass social unrest, violence and deaths that netted no actionable progress at all, before we lost Roe and the lives and health of yet unknown numbers of pregnant people denied basic medical care, before January 6, and before the explosive growth of a fully fascist movement that is far more entrenched and far more angry and violent than they were eight years ago.

It’s almost as if there is a certain political mindset that strongly correlates to an absolute refusal to learn anything from their own lived experience, let alone recent history.

her being gay, whether or not she's in love with Ching Shih, doesn't mean that she's less capable of pure devotion to the cause! she can be very committed to the cause *and* in love with C.S. if that's what you go with. I wouldn't do the love at first sight thing, but that's just because I don't find love at first sight narratively interesting and I love when romance develops out of a comrades-in-arms/loyal-subordinate thing where they already have another bond in place

oh, er... that... wasn’t what I was implying? I’m not at all saying that gay people can’t be devoted to revolutionary causes or that their motives are somehow suspect? I’m not sure what in my post could have implied that at all, but I am very sorry if I had weird wording or didn’t express myself as well as I meant to. 

Again, sorry if it was unclear at all... but in my head, as of right this second (and again, I just came up with this idea two weeks ago and just wrote a first outline, everything’s still in flux!)  Judith is a rather Enjolraic figure, who runs on duty and moral right. I know debates have raged and will rage on forever and ever about Enjolras’s sexuality, but to me-- once I knew what asexuality was (probably thanks to @kcrabb88) -- I was like “Oh, that makes sense! That is how I interpret this character!” I mean, I’m still at the stage of character development where I’m thinking “this character I am inventing is like this character I like” so... I just kind of assumed in my head that Judith was ace because her character motivation is global revolution a la Enjolras, and I tend to think of Enjolras as ace.

Yeah, pretty much! It's "dry" in the sense of deadpan, not in the sense of uninspired -- Jaques is just impressed by Touchstone's mad snark skills. The biscuit comparison was actually pretty common in Elizabethan usage (it's not always complimentary but in this instance it's more positive than not). ...also now I'm wondering if part of the reason for this whole sequence is that Robert Armin was new to the company when AYLI was written (he joined up after Will Kemp's departure in 1599, and I've heard it theorized that the play was the first staged at the Globe, which opened in 1599*) and so it's a bit of hype for his non-Kemp-like comedy stylings. Also it is possible this is a big obvious thing and I just never really noticed because I've never taught or written about the play. *Although I prefer the theory that it was Henry V and that's why the Chorus is such a big thing in the play, because the metatheatrical focus allows Shakespeare to call attention to the new digs
