hangman being seen as being selfish and cocky and like he thinks he can do everything by himself when in truth he's much more caring than he wants to seem as. like this scene here is a competition. they need to be the best and hangman wants to be on this mission. but he also knows phoenix wants it to and he respects her A LOT. so he "betrays" her right here to ensure not only his spot on the team later on, but i also think he knows he has a role to play. the role of that guy everyone hates but is actually good, so u bet ur ass we're gonna prove we're just as good as you to shut u up.

and he WANTS that!!! i am a firm believer that jake goes on his own all the time and leaves his wingman etc. because he knows the missions they go to are dangerous. and he much rather make a mistake on his own and own up to it then to have his squad make the mistakes.

he and javy seem very close so i think javy is the only person jake would ever let himself fight alongside. because if jake gets into shit then at least it doesnt involve anyone else.

so he plays up this selfish cocky facade in a way to make sure he gets to complete his missions with whatever he needs to do to complete them and make sure the minimum amount of ppl get hurt.

its not rly he doesnt trust his team. he just knows that life is unpredictable. if he gets as much of the unpredictable variables out of the way, he can finish the job quicker and thats done.

i also feel like he knew in some way he wasnt gonna be team leader. he did assume he'd be on the team but i think he knew he wasnt getting that spot. he just said all that to rile ppl up. he just assumes its much easier for ppl to spite him and go on their own way, away from him, than it is to let himself into a group where they most likely will die.

jake is definitely a sensitive and caring character. but most of all he has the utmost respect for his fellow pilots. he just also has a role to play in this team dynamic and he does it very well

this entire scene makes me insane. the basis of hangman’s callsign is that he “hangs people out to dry.” he sells them out to save himself. by all rights every other scene up until his redemption arc shows that he’s egotistical and selfish to those who aren’t in his inner circle (ie. coyote)

but this scene. he says “i can’t shoot him without shooting you.” and then whispers an apology! like this shows us so much about who he is as a person and how the name hangman is just a callsign given to him and not who he is intrinsically

there used to not be an image limit before, causing a few- interesting posts… tho that changed a few years ago and recently, at first the limit being 10 images per post to now 30 images per post (you can also move the images around a bit)

if you plan on staying long term on tumblr and use desktop the most, i recommend getting the browser extensions Xkit &/or New Xkit cuz… yeah, tumblr is pretty nice, but it sometimes gets hard to use. it also adds extra useful things to the tumblr experience, which is nice to have. i'd say tumblr is like living in a cheap apartment in a calm area of the city. the place's great for what it is, just gotta be sure to leave rat traps near holes and dont worry about the Beast down the hall,

speaking of rats, we got an infestation. you may or may not have heard of it with the voter fraudage going with the polls a bit ago; since tumblr has little to No email verification, people outside tumblr buy bots to get in here and start posting malicious links. tho the bots are surprisingly easy to identify (often times blank blogs with very weird descriptions + stolen picture of lady or ai generated. you'll know it when you see it), and the protocol here is block and report spam so staff can deal with it

and btw if you want to keep a post for as long as your blog stands, i recommend rebloggin! thanks to how tumblr is build as, even if the original post or that blog is gone, the reblog will stay with you (+ tags on reblogs dont really make a post expand outside of your own blog, so many use this to create Very intricate personal tag systems to make easier finding posts, bc once a blog gets 1k+ post in it, it gets hard finding anything on it... <- knows this from experience u.u)

oh and last thing before i go again (and something i found out recently), another browser extension ive been loving: Stylus! with it you can customize a ton of sites to your liking And with a specific style found in the archive of this extension, you can change how the dashboard looks! even changing the background to any image you might want :D

You turn your attention back to Daryl as you stand up and he shakes his head, giving a little smirk as he looks away.

“He’s going to be so pissed at you.” Carol mumbles with a slight laugh. You shrug, “He’s worth missing a flight for.”

She smiles and shakes her head as you walk up to Daryl.

“I had it.” He mumbles, and you shrug, “We know. But a little help is never a bad thing.” You give him a smile and he looks at you, “Why aren’t y’on the plane?”

Yep! I'll answer this one with Gray just cause its been on my mind lately. [And slightly more detailed ask, hope that's fine!]

Rebloggin cause I will run out of characters but

I see Gale referring to his mother by her first name as an indication of distance- and his line about being loved so purely hits a vibe with me on that front, because in my opinion it isn't distance because they don't love each other. It's distance because Gale hasn't let his mother or Tara actually know him.

As someone who personally sees Gale as neurodivergent, when you pull him out of the portal he is masking, hard. The paragraphs. The finger-waggling. He's put on his Gale of Waterdeep costume and under normal circumstances he probably would get away with it.

Obviously these are not normal circumstances.

And then Gale finds himself in a situation where he cannot maintain it. He is never truly alone- there's another person approximately a meter away at all times. As someone who has gone through this kind of Unmasking Via Observation, it's absolutely terrifying because you're revealing a self that you are sure nobody will like.

I highly recommend the BBC documentary Inside Our Autistic Minds for insight on Masking, especially the episode with Flo- I can't find the film she made, but it had me absolutely sobbing when I watched it because it said everything I always wanted to say to my parents but never understood.

Now add in magical prodigy + Mystra and honestly

I think Tav/the party are the first people to see Gale, truly unmasked, as an adult. I'm sure Tara would have given him space when requested ("Of course, Mister Dekarios, I will leave you to your studies!") So maintaining the mask around her would be possible. He lives alone- so when he sees Morena, he's able to be the brightest, shiniest Gale he can be to make her proud!

He is masking so hard that he'd rather just disappear and never come back than taint the image his mother has of him.

And I bet you that if he makes it back to Waterdeep, Morena will be finding out a lot more about what's happened to him, and marching on the temple of Mystra to tear that goddess a new one.

Okay so something that Gale says that has always made me wonder is when he says something along the lines of, "Oh, I'm sure Morena doesn't mind."

Now this could be a cultural difference or something but I could not imagine referring to my mother by her first name like that. Maybe during doctor's appointments but never in that way.

So I had a thought. What if Gale is some sort of talented storm sorcerer orphan prodigy and was adopted by Morena when he's around 10/12 or something (Matilda style). Which is also around the time that Mystra meets him because he's really good at magic. Morena probably teaches him the wizard ways of magic.

But because he gets adopted by Morena around the same time as meeting Mystra, mini-Gale thinks that both of these events are because of him being a prodigy. (Its not, Morena just loves Gale. Don't we all.)

This would give context to the line, "You love me for the man that I am, not the magic I command. Noone has ever loved me so purely."

Because let me tell you, I was a bit confused when he said that. Like Gale... Tara??? Your mother? I know it's probably more like a nobody-loves-me kind of speech but it did catch me off guard.

We also know that he was a very "look at what I can do" kinda kid and yeah, kids are just like that, but what if it was also a, "im still really talented, i swear"

This would make him being abandoned by Mystra so so heartbreaking. Which would explain why he never tells his mother about the orb or even writes to her during the events of bg3. Because he's afraid of disappointing her, of being abandoned by her. So he tries his best to deal with all of those problems on his own.

Of course, this would erase my beloved Mamma Mia! Morena hc and is wholly dependent on the fact that my culture just doesn't do that first name thing.

But let me know??? Is this a normal thing? Do you guys ever refer to your parents by their first names in the way Gale did?
