Your rebelcaptain secret santa was me all along! Your prompt gave me all the power in the world to do almost whatever I wanted with this beloved pairing, and I settled with Before Sunrise: A RebelCaptain Story AU (based on the 1995 movie of the same name… kinda.) Our stars meet unexpectedly on a train traveling to Vienna, and Cassian convinces Jyn to spend his last night in Europe with him before his plane departs. They gallivant around the city, conversing about everything and nothing at all. There’s feelings and a kiss and then time is up. ALL OF THIS, and then my mind kept returning to this quote from the Rogue One novelisation “He hadn't known her, didn't know her, of course. There wasn't the time.” Then I cried.

I hope your 2025 is filled with good health, good friends, and a good cry over these two because, of course, we did know them.

Once Upon a December

It turns out he belongs to private practice veterinarian cassian and this is how he learns about rogue shelters. He begins to spend more time there and each visit lends him more reasons to stay than just one. kay doesn’t find it so bad either.

He sounded hesitant and Jyn burrowed her eyebrows in confusion. He was so sure in his memorized speech just a moment ago. Cassian stared thoughtfully at the golden prize in his hand.

“I… would like to dedicate this to the person who has been with me on this journey since this movie was merely an idea. The first person to read every single thing I write. And well… The first person who complained the most about a certain character’s death like you all did.”

It got another laugh from the audience.

Cassian continued, “She was my cornerstone through it all. Her hand marks were all over this movie, and it was better because of it. I was better because of it.”

What was he doing?

Cassian smiled and looked at the camera, “My beloved shade of green. Thank you.”

They broke up a year ago.

Behold, @delphiniumblooms! It is I, your secret Santa! You asked for something based on Dress by Taylor Swift. I pulled up the lyrics and went OH DAMN because it's about a relationship that's secret from everyone, maybe even the people in it, and that is my jam. I hope you like what I did with it!

This does delve into the death of a parent. Nothing shown in horrendous up close detail, but more the way someone has to rearrange their life around it and their feelings about their parent. So if that is a painful spot for anyone at this time of year (or any time of year), please be aware.

"Jyn, I need to talk to you."

She held up a finger. "Gimme a sec." She typed a sentence, studied it, backspaced slowly, and then typed the exact same sentence again, even more slowly. "Mmm. Okay." Then she spun in her chair. "What's up?"

Syril scowled. "I need your RSVP for the holiday party."

She peered up at the ceiling tiles, tapping her lower lip. "Holiday party," she mused. "Holllllllliday . . . party?"

"You know? The one we're having the Friday before Christmas? In the big hotel downtown? I've only been sending emails out since before Thanksgiving!"

"Oh, that holiday party."

He huffed and twitched his polo shirt straight, making sure the corporate logo lay flat. "Anyway, you still haven't RSVP'd."

"There's an open bar, right?"

"One drink ticket per person and cash bar after that. Which I happen to think is very generous on corporate's part. And you can have as many soft drinks and waters as you want."

"Oooo," she said sarcastically.

Still, buffet, drink ticket, and a discounted hotel room if you felt the need for it. Hell, she'd take it. Not like she had such a busy social life that she was likely to get a better offer. She shrugged. "Okay, fine, put me down."

"Excellent," he said, whipping out his tablet. "Oh, and are you bringing a plus-one?"
