“That’s what the twentieth century was, a kind of windstorm-scouring of all we thought was knowledge, and truth, and ours—until it became too strong for us, or we too weak for it, and “the self replaced the soul as the fist of survival” (Fanny Howe).” ― Christian Wiman, My Bright Abyss: Meditation of a Modern Believer

Rear view mirror
I thought I saw you driving towards your place
But it was too dark and too fast to really see your face
I’ll be honest, missing you has faded
After everything we went through, my heart was really jaded
But tonight, this moment
I really missed your hug
Held so tightly in your arms
Held so strongly, held so snug
You didn’t always give that enveloping embrace
But when you did…all my stress, and fears and anxieties laid to waste
You had a way of this strong gentleness
A soft touch, a gentle caress
Yet something so light, was able to carry all of the weight
The weight of sadness, the weight of my fears
You’d lift them up strongly and wipe away my tears
But tears dry up
And this pain will disappear
Just like your lights in the rear view mirror
