If your characters are pokemon gym leaders what pokemon and type would you assign them?

I'm not sure about specific Pokémon just because there's so many to choose from lol (I might come back later and pick some for them) and for types I'm mostly going off of aesthetic and vibes lol

Axel - Fairy, 100%. Maybe also water? He'd absolutely have a team of Pokémon he considers cute lol

Casey - Grass type, again I have no doubt about this

Cyril - I would say fire because he likes to threaten people with it but I'm kinda leaning toward ice for him

Desmond - If we're going really on the nose then I'd say dragon, but I'm gonna go with Steel. But he's got at least one dragon type on his team lol

Dion - Fire, clearly, but he'd have a team made up of different dual types

Duncan - I kinda feel like fighting would fit him, but I'm gonna go with rock just because he'd totally have a midday lycanroc lol

Ellis - Electric, and they'd go all out with the aesthetic too, I just know it

Gael - It's close between ghost and fairy, but I'm leaning a little more toward ghost. Maybe he's got a mimikyu on his team (I love mimikyu with all my heart)

Gage - If I were meaner I'd say normal lol, but I'll go with fighting

Jacob - He'd be a normal type gym, but every one of his Pokémon is normal/psychic (plus a ditto lol)

Law - I'll say water, just because he'd totally rock a pair of swim trunks and some sunglasses during battle

Kane - I actually kinda feel like dark, rather than fire, would fit him

Marlowe - I'm kinda feeling ghost type for him too

Nathaniel - Poison, definitely. Dude likes his lil injectable experiments a lil too much

Neo - Rock type, he'd love how tough they look lol

Roman - I'm kinda feeling electric type for him, but steel could also work

Bonus: Apprentice Researcher Brennan would be water type and he'd be a total nerd about it

My love for pokemon has been ignited again recently, so let’s crossover it with another thing i like (Obeyme :D). What pokemon’s type the casts specialized in? Here’s my take:

Lucifer is probably dark or fire type (cuz it fits his aesthetics)

Mammon would be electric or dark type

Levi is obiviously water type

Satan probably psychic/grass? (Or he doesn’t specialized in any types at all, just cats)

Asmo is bug/fairy (i’m leaning onto bug types more cuz bugs are fashionable cuz y’know there’re plenty of clothes are based of bugs’ patterns?)

Beel: fighting type

Belphie: normal or ghost

Thirteen is definitely poison

raphael just gives me massive steel type

Diavolo would be dark/fire/ghost??? (Not sure)

And i think Solomon would be a professor (cuz i can’t think of a type that fits this old man lol). And i really struggle with the remaining characters tho (my imagination has really gone dry)

Okay, let's see, I've seen some speculation about what kinds of Pokemon the characters would have, but I haven't considered it myself. Mostly because I know that if I tried to create teams for all the characters I would go down a rabbit hole the likes of which no one has ever seen. I would spend days, possibly weeks, maybe even months, hyper fixating on it.

I think there are a lot of Pokemon that fit the characters but most of my ideas involve mixed type teams.

But if they were like gym leaders and had only one specific type that they specialized in? I think I can manage that?

These are just my general thoughts, kind of off the top of my head, but it's all subject to change at a moment's notice lol.

I agree with Lucifer being Dark. I can just see him having a Houndoom, Zoroark, possibly an Umbreon.

I can't help but think that Mammon would be Normal because there is no way that guy doesn't have a Meowth. Also wouldn't it be cute if he had a lil Eevee?? I also see him with a Zigzagoon.

Levi is definitely Water. Gyarados, Lapras, maybe a Greninja? Yeah that feels right.

Satan would absolutely just be cats. Though I do believe I saw someone say Mimikyu would be a good one for him, too, and I agreed with that argument! But if I had to choose a type for him, I think Psychic is a good choice. Since he tends to be more focused on knowledge and the mind, I think it could work. Plus can you imagine him with a Galarian Ponyta? And of course he'd have a Meowstic!

I tend to lean more toward Fairy for Asmo just because I'm pretty sure he doesn't like bugs lol. But I think if I was gonna choose something for Asmo, it'd be Grass. I know, but hear me out. How many Grass type Pokemon are straight up beautiful flowers? Give him a Bellossom or a Sunflora or a Roselia.

Then I would give Bug type to Beel lol. Though I absolutely feel like Fighting would work, too ('cause like omg Beel with a Machamp). I just think it goes with the whole fly situation, you know? Plus how cute would it be for him to have a Butterfree? I mean yeah okay he can have a Scyther too and like a Joltik but also give that guy a Cutiefly you know what I'm saying?

Belphie definitely gives me Ghost vibes for some reason. I can't explain it, but I just see him definitely having a Drifloon. Also a Gengar. And a Pumpkaboo just because that feels right too lol. I have no idea why.

I think Diavolo would be the Dragon type. That feels right to me. Dragonite, Salamence, Garchomp, maybe a Drampa or Goodra. I dunno, just feels like the right type for him.

I really can't decide on a single type for Barbatos. I think he'd like a Ghost type like Sinistea or a Fairy type like Comfey. But he's got the Little Ds, right?? They're close enough! Demon type lol.

Now I could totally see Solomon being one of those absolutely unhinged professor types lol. But I could also see him having Flying or Ice type. Or Psychic or Fairy. I think he could have any of those. Like give that grandpa an Alakazam or an Altaria or a Glaceon or a Clefable. Okay see this is what I mean when I start being unable to choose a specific type lol.

I could also see Simeon having Flying type. Again with a Swablu or Altaria, but also a Togekiss or Swanna.

Luke would be Fairy type. Especially considering how many Fairy type Pokemon are also desserts. Give that kid an Alcremie, a Slurpuff, and of course a Fidough! Also a Togepi to match Simeon's Togekiss.

I agree that Thirteen would be Poison. That feels accurate! Give her a Seviper and a Croagunk! Oh and a Salazzle.

I think Raphael could be Steel, Ground, or Rock lol. Or even Fighting I think would work too. I don't think there's a spear like Steel type, but there is the swords Aegislash. But I think I could see him with an Onix or like a Solrock too.

Mephisto completely baffles me. Maybe Poison also? Or Fire? I could see him with a Ninetails.

Well, these are just basic ideas, and I agree with multiple types for each character. It's too hard for me to give a single type to each! For instance, I also think Mammon would have a Gimmighoul and that's a Ghost type. I didn't even give anyone Electric in the end, but I could see him having a Pikachu, too lol.

Anyway, that was fun to think about, but you can see that if I got serious about it, I'd end up getting way too into it lol. I'm always open to hear other people's thoughts and ideas on this, too! I know others have discussed it before! (For instance, I recommend checking out @/another-lost-mc because I know Jes has a Pokemon AU!)

If Ash and his non-Gym Leader/Trial Captain friends were Gym Leaders/Trial Captains, what types do you think they would specialize in?

Sounds fun! I mostly looked at their teams and aesthetics to form my opinions for these. For characters like Chloe, Max, and Bonnie, I looked at the pokemon they befriended, too. ALSO WHY IS EVERYONE’S TEAMS SO RELATIVELY BALANCED IN TYPE SPREAD :sob:

Ash: Almost solely because of Pikachu, I could see him as an electric-type specialist. But if I went outside of that, I think I personally associate him the most with fire-types, and could see him as a fire-type specialist

May: Hhhhhhh such a spread of types but based on her vibes? Fighting-type. You could probably also swing normal-type for her but I just don’t feel it enough

Max: For sure almost a psychic- or dark-type specialist. I’m leaning a little towards psychic-type because of (what I remember of) his intelligence

Dawn: I’m NGL I usually think of Mamoswine and Piplup when I think of her team so I would honestly think of her as a ground- or ice-type specialist. Leaning more towards ground-type

Bonnie: Hmm. I would say electric-type, but I feel way more fairy-type vibes from her honestly. Or I could see her being rock-type? Yall remember that Tyrunt

Serena: Listen I love Serena but I have absolutely no idea????? Psychic-type maybe????? Fairy would feel a little on-the-nose for her idk

I want to hear about the pokemon x rainworld au. It sounds so cool and i totally havent been thinking ahiut something similar.

Okay first of all, THANK YOU FOR ASKING!!!!! I swear to god you're like the hyper fixation fairy, letting me indulge in info dumping and all.

Secondly, I've only played Pokemon X&Y, and that was a WHILE ago, so the information I remember might not be accurate for the AU nor fit it that well. That means I'd absolutely love anyone actually into Pokemon to add something, anything really, to this AU.

HAVING SAID THAT, here's everything I have so far~

One of the specific word building bits I want for this AU is for the Rain world universe be placed within the Pokemon universe. Like, all the lore, characters, everything, just take place within the magic system and vibes of Pokemon. So Ancients would obviously take the role of the humans, but here they're all still ascended and gone. The beings they left behind, both constructed and wild, have pokemon equivalents. Like maybe Red lizards resemble a fire type, vultures a flying or even dragon type, maybe stowaways could be dark or psychic typed!

I really like the idea of Iterators spending their days training or battling each other instead of looking for the solution. Of course there might be remnants of that culture, but I feel like most would be happy with their pokemon. Hell, maybe Moon or NSH could be gym leaders!

For the slugcats I really don't want to lean heavy into the pokemon vibe. I'll obviously design them accordingly, but I really like their simple designs so I just wanna add my own little touch. Though I fully imagine them being obtainable pokemon, for the wild ones at least. Spearmaster, Artificer, and Hunter would all be apart of their respective iterator's teams. SRS, FP, and NSH respectively.

I've only thought about pokedex entries and movesets a tiny bit, so all of what I have will be below:

Saint: Ghost & Ice type - The Lingering pokemon -Shadow Force -Haze -Nightmare -Calm Mind

Rivulet: Water type - The Savior pokemon -Baby Doll Eyes -???

Monk: Normal & Fairy type - The Benevolent pokemon -Play Rough -???

Artificer: Fire & Steel type - The Desolation pokemon

Gourmand: Normal type - The Guardian pokemon

Survivor: Normal type - The Wandering pokemon

Hunter: Poison type - The Cyst pokemon

Spearmaster: Normal & Dark type - The Messenger pokemon

I've thought about giving every scug a pokemon-esque name, but that's were my knowledge on the games end. And i'm bad at world play...

Here's something that has been staying in my head rent-free for a long while now: Pokemon World Tournament.

Like,, who would get sent to participate from each region from the rebornverse (assuming that the limit of participating gym leaders is 8), how well would they do, who would they interact with from the canon characters, who would have the biggest beef with someone, etc.

Also if Reborn/Aevium/Ayrith had the chance to host the PWT (assuming that it changes location each time like the Olympics), which place would they choose? Like, there are some obvious picks like where tournaments were already hosted before, but still

Ok so PWT stuff. Starting with desolation we ummm kinda only know 8 alive gym leaders LOL. so the 8 from there would likely be Connor/Aderyn/Emily/Rosetta/Aaron/Garret/Reeve/Ava. Now there is Also a dragon leader mentioned too, so it's definitely likely for that one considering dragon typing's notoriety; however as we only have connection to 8 gym leaders (that are still kicking) at all in deso, it's safe to assume for now that those 8 would be the ones invited.

For rejuv? Im willing to go Venam/Narcissa/Valarie/Amber/Lavender/Talon/Saki/Kreiss for my picks. Just based on situation; though theoretically if this is in a true tl where all is peaceful then it shouldnt really matter. Regardless, Venam/Amber/Saki is a Do Not Separate kind of situation. They're all pt notorious in their own way lol and def more willing to be in front of the crowd. Narcissa and Valarie are performers too, and would be slay to see. Talon because of his sheer popularity despite not actually being ingame yet lol (thus my actual reasoning is also behind bars; but there is one.). Kreiss because I Said So. If not Kreiss, then Erick or Florin tbh. Valarie Could Also be swapped out for Florin or Adam. It kinda depends, but yuh.

Reborn . Saphira/Charlotte/Julia/Florinia/Ciel/Adrienn/Luna/Radomus. Belrose sisters, very notorious; v popular. This is counting as long as they have BEEN gym leader majorly at some point btw lol. Julia is just Happy To Be There and very energetic. Rini is there bc Julia is but also bc she's just v good. Terra isnt there because she's banned .

Ciel is also a performer-- i def tried to lean towards charas that would actually be more chill in a crowd. Which is immediately heel turned by Luna but whatever. Again an argument of popularity. Adrienn already goes all over to other regions; xe is the most solid "oh absolutely" i have when it comes to going to other region things.and Radomus is . Because I like him and he's cool. Aya is a perfectly viable swap for him tho considering she willingly became a reserve in a diff region anywy

Kreiss and Radomus would either get along very well or be Extremely annoyed at one another. No inbetween. Ava and Rini are shaking hands in mutual respect. Charlotte and Amber have a fierce rivalry but are absolutely hitting it off. I feel like Luna and Venam would actually get along rlly well :). Emily and Julia have to be kept separate because they get along too well and have the same ideas. Saphira stays as far away from Saki and Connor as possible. Reeve and Adrienn are absolutely vibing together; Rosetta is there, too. Ciel and Aderyn bond bc Flying types. Can see Talon getting along w Aderyn and all four Cellia ppl a lot. Saki Also has to Not meet Julia and Emily or hell ensues. She also reallyyyy gets along w Garret. Aaron and Aya beef; because it's funny. Connor doesnt want to associate w the other fire type users.

⚪️normal: ok i’m gonna be pissed if either normal or fairy isn’t jigglypuff. fits the music/singing theme perfectly AND is pokemon #39 which is the miku number. if they’re cowards or put jigglypuff in the fairy slot, then i could see exploud or chatot for the music theme or maybe even lopunny for the twintails? oh or obv farfetchd cuz it was in the kei art. probably farfetchd.

this design might be closest to regular miku. or they take it in a lass/schoolgirl direction?

post-hisui thoughts at 4am thinking about this some more

in all honesty i originally planned for the ending to be "ingo goes back to normal except his bi-monthly escapes to the wilderness cabin somewhere to run around with paws" but the more i think about how his actual experience in hisui would have been the less it feels like it fits the timeline? especially with the Protector™ role he's held for what's been a good.... 6? 8? 12??? years now. like normally (in 'canon' (fanon, lbr), other aus that aren't this one) his role might have shifted thirty feet to the left, but he was still basically an experienced, working trainer raising and battling with a team* and who likely occasionally ferried groups back and forth in the Highlands, so i can see him... not necessarily easily, but slotting back into his original post with less issue. meanwhile in this au he's had.... a much different experience and changes to how he works, thinks, exists, to say the least. you feel me?

*i just realized, but he absolutely needs to befriend Gliscor somewhere along the line here. i don't make the rules, lil bat baby needs to be allied, at very least. perhaps he could be the one pokemon ingo "trains", giving him directions to coach him like a human trainer would?

I'm also kinda waffling on what of his memories he retains. i was thinking most of them at first, honestly? but that panic gets kinda pushed to the back burner while he learns how to just. not die. also he's a carnivore so there's.... that hurdle to get over. and the human-panic-disgust-fear thought spirals would get pretty old after the first two or three.

on the other hand like. I've been thinking maybe his memories being suppressed more fits the vibe, especially on the Return To Future Present Arc, and it's kinda just like. most stuff about his memories don't really have much value for him as the Hisui Guardian pokemon? so I'm maybe leaning more towards a PMD style "wakes up knowing his name and he's theoretically supposed to be human but not much else" with the occasional "specific trivia/knowledge pops up as need-be, or there's a vague sense of recollection sometimes" for flavor.

that last one, especially in the Return, makes for a.... hmm. rather distressing reunion of the brothers/nimbasa trio/etc to say the least, if it happens at all? like he has a vague sense that these people are familiar, but he wouldn't necessarily seek them out on his own, just keep by the side of his Charge. which like. unless they get dropped in unova, or crash The Annual Great Gym Leader And Family Fun Getaway Trip To Sinnoh, that would be a kinda contrived way to mash them back together.

..........oh no now im thinking of akari stealing emmet's clothes off a line and someone mistaking him in the woods for his brother and calling out before he (literally) turns tail and runs, leaving torn fabric behind. that might be a fun trail to think about now, Whoops™.

now how would i convince arceus to give Rei over too when It tosses them back through the rift....

⚪ thinking about Akari’s return to the present, and the Protect Instinct of shielding her from (what was more human than not, at the end) threats still running high… a half-feral man jumping into the face of an opponent twice his size, too-pointed teeth bared in a fierce snarl as he crowds the encroaching pokemon, throwing his whole weight into the intimidation display. or a grunt, a pickpocket, a wrong-place-wrong-time hiker hearing seams rip as the “borrowed” clothing tears away and shreds hang off a massive, terrifying monster.

⚪ while the typical end goal is ingo adopts his Future-Present child, they move in with him and emmet, happy family days etc. but this akari is an adult (legally emancipated minor, but she's been caring for herself for years now) - and she's much more wary of strangers, even those that share her companion’s sometimes-face.

her bodyguard goes where she goes, she must travel to Unova eventually - to escape the echoes of the Present-Past? and her personal omen follows.

she'd have her own apartment at least, either through battling prowess - though I feel she's of a more research-over-battling leaning nature here - or inheritance, or generous gift from her guard’s friends or own estate to keep her - and thus Ingo too - in the region.

⚪ emmet not having the perfect reunion and back-to-normal-life he'd hoped for the first time he'd seen his brother returned. half the time their apartment stays as empty as the years before, Ingo pulled to the side of his charge in this city of noise and uncertainty more often than not. even if he... visits? - does ingo even live here with him anymore, emmet wonders - he ghosts around warily on silent feet, hunched shoulders making him look both larger and smaller than he truly is.

ingo himself being uncomfortable in a place and company of expectations counter to His Purpose, of fleeting memories and pitying looks. he is not That Man they remember anymore, his status of Being Human anymore not the most egregious change amongst the numerous others.

⚪ he's spent enough time in the wilds that besides dedicated sparring, fighting other pokemon is for all-out, life-or-death confrontations or sustenance hunting. his adherence to modern competitive battle standards is basically in the negatives, even if he would accept the direction of a trainer over his own Ideals to survive the tide of battle.

his drive and passion that made him such a passionate and formidable trainer have not been dispelled in the least - merely redirected in the years and distance since. towards protection, of a god’s Chosen, of warring clans and child leaders, and of unconnected travelers both through Hisui and now Unova. he'd return as a conductor, likely, but his restored position as facility head is not a Truth that is likely to occur soon.

SwSh Pokespe chapter 25

Even though I'm not super into Pokespe one of the things that I've always appreciated about the manga outside of the rotating main cast was the willingness to allow the gym leaders to be a part of the action. I really like how Piers rounds up the rest of the gym leaders with the absence of Leon and Raihan, subtly showing a bit of a hierarchy in the gym leaders. Not to mention the parallels between Leon and Piers where Piers is more willing to allow the children to get involved with Rose in contrast to Leon who wanted to keep them out of the danger. One thing that's been on my mind with the SwSh Pokespe arc is if they will have a championship match. It's been awhile since one of the dex holders has actually become champion (not since Black in the BW chapter). But with the Darkest Day Plot starting sooner and even the characters being unsure about the fate the of gym challenge it may not actually happen. We'll have to see I really loved the scene with Bede and Opal with Opal asking him "Have you ever wonder what the man who played with your life was after?". Honestly one of my many gripes with the SwSh Plot was that Bede should've been there to confront Rose considering what happened in Stow-on-Side. Seeing the gym leaders come to Wyndon was so cool. I love how Bea and Piers were gossiping in front of Gordie and Melony about them being seen in public together. It was a cute little moment. Bede being the one to start the fight with Oleana was really neat (Again more reasons as to why he should've been involved in the Darkest Day Plot more). I really like how they decided to keep Oleana cool and collected while fighting Bede and then the rest of the gym leaders. Perhaps my favorite part of this chapter was when Soudo, Schilly, Marnie, Bede and Hop got to the top of Rose Tower only to find out that yes Rose was indeed not there. This is just me but I love plots where the villains are being 100% honest but the heroes are just so distrustful of them that they accidentally screw themselves over. Seeing Rose lean into the whole "I'm the savior of Galar" thing with his speech before starting the darkest day was really cool. It gives him that eccentric billionaire vibe where he just really doesn't see how he could be wrong when he's trying to do a good thing in theory. Much better than how he just loses control of things in the games.

My other favorite part of the chapter I think was seeing Professor Magnolia come to the rescue when the Dynamaxed Pokemon went on a rampage. I'm probably like one of the only people on this planet who actually likes Professor Magnolia and I was just really sad she wasn't utilized as much in the game story. So I really appreciate seeing her have more prominence in the manga. I'm really excited to see the next chapter, to see how things are going in Hammerlocke

Blinding Lights || Pokemon Drabble (Gym Leader OC)

Summary: Not being able to sleep for whatever reason sucks, but at least in Galar most other towns are within walking distance when you need a change of scenery A/N: I’ve seen quite a few nice oc x canon things floating around the pokemon fandom so I wanted to write some of my own so I just -slides this into the tags.

Honestly this is the first time I actually fully want to introduce an OC to the fandom while I have her pine for my favorite character in the game so I’m actually kinda nervous about this lol

Song is ofcourse The Weeknd - Blinding Lights because it just vibes right, yknow?

All she heard was the soft ticking of the clock in her room, and her own racing breath as she tried to calm down from jolting awake in the middle of the night.

She had never been particularly fond of the way she dreamed, everything too real and too tangible even if it happened during her slumber.

Levyna’s phone buzzed awake when she grabbed it, the Rotom in in making sure the phone was full of battery life whenever the user needed it, even if that was at half past one in the morning. Scrolling through her contact list, she hovered over one of the names for a while, before pressing down and calling the number.

 “Sorry, I can’t come to the phone right now. Leave your message after the beep and I’ll call you when I can,” informed the voicemail. Figures. Not many people would be up and about at this time.

Stretching her body a little, Levyna sat up and slipped her legs over the edge of the bed. She turned a little bit to look at the sleeping pokemon at the foot of the end- or at least, she thought it had been asleep. However, her Espeon had been silently watching her from the moment she had jolted awake, and gave a curious purr as he felt the eyes of his trainer on him.

“... Do you mind going on a walk with me, Illusion?”

The pokemon stretched as well, before elegantly hopping of the bed and sitting at the door with an agreeing noise. Levyna nodded, getting up and turning on the light in the room so she could see what she was doing while getting dressed.

For a moment she considered taking her headphones along with her, but really, where she was going everyone would be asleep or not even around. So there was no real need for it, was there?

Followed by her Espeon, she made her way out of the small, minor league village of Bellfair, quietly setting foot on the road away from her home.

“Come on, Illusion. Route 7 isn’t far from here. We’ll be there in no time. ” She knew perfectly well why the dilapidated state of Spikemuth didn't sit well with its Gym Leader. Truthfully, nobody would be too happy to see their city fall off the map the way Spikemuth did, to where only 29 residents remained. The town she came from wasn't much bigger in size, perse, but Bellfair got plenty of attention even if it kept flip flopping between being minor or major League.

But to Levyna, Spikemuth was heaven. With team yell on the road to support Marnie in her journey, only a handful of people remained in Spikemuth; most of them asleep around this time as she had expected.

She sighed in a sense of relief when she got to the main stage, momentarily deserted and with most of its neon lights turned off. Sitting down and leaning back on the steps up to the stage, she soaked in the silence around her.

No conscious thoughts to hear aside from her own. No expectations. Just blissful silence, while softly petting the delicate fur of her Espeon who had curled up in her lap.

Illusion however suddenly sat up, letting out a thrilling noise and looked at his owner with a tilted head. A sign to Levyna that he wanted to explore the area, but was unsure if he could leave his owner by herself when he did.

She smiled, very softly petting his head, getting another purr from her partner pokemon.

“It’s okay. You can go explore if you want. I’ll stay here until you’re back, okay?”

Illusion let out a happy noise, slightly wiggling away from her lap before trotting off in an elegant and quick pace. He did momentarily halt and look back at his trainer, as if to make sure she remained where she was, before fully allowing himself to explore the city of Spikemuth.

There were lots of nooks and crannies in the city the Espeon could have explored, but he stuck to most of the main road until said road took a turn left before the entrance of the town. Illusion halted there, seemingly thinking for a moment, before taking the left turn and peaking around the west entrance of the town that was surrounded by high grass, some fencing and some metal containers.

Illusion purred at the shape he saw leaning back against the biggest container at the entrance to the left, going closer to the shape and sitting down next to it.

Piers watched the pokemon from the corner of his eyes, raising an eyebrow as the lilac feline pokemon sat down beside him. Eeveelutions were an uncommon sighting in Spikemuth either way, but an Espeon seemed an far more unlikely eeveelution for any resident to have than an Umbreon.

“Hm. You’re not from around here, are ya, mate?”

He couldn’t help but smile a little as the Espeon purred, leaning over with a hand reaching over in a relaxed way so the pokemon could sniff it. He didn’t plan on petting it necessarily, he just wanted to show that he was not a threat.

“You must be Levyna’s Espeon, then. Didn’t see her coming in. Mind bringing me to her?”

He stood up straight, pressing against one of his shoulders before rolling it back a little, only to follow the pokemon back into his town and along the main road to the stage where he often held his concerts.

Seeing Levyna there in the middle of the night was not much of a surprise, and he didn’t mind keeping her company on the nights she came to Spikemuth if he had been struggling to get to sleep as well.

“Hey,” he greeted, casually, watching as the Espeon that guided him crawled back into the lap of its trainer.

“Hey,” she greeted back, moving just a little bit so there was enough space for him to sit down next to her. Not that there wasn’t, or like Piers took up a lot of space anyway, but it seemed like the polite thing to do.

“I was planning on calling you back, you know. Missed call and all? Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just.. you know. Sleeping got hard, wanted to ask if I could come over. Decided to do so anyway. Hope you don’t mind.” “Of course I don’t mind. Beats standing outside on my own.”

A silence fell between them, but it was hardly an awkward silence. In fact, the gaps in their conversation seemed more comforting than anything else. To just sit there, besides one another to enjoy the company offered, in the calm silence of a town that was asleep.. It seemed to calm both of them down, even just a little.

To share space without the expectation of much else was a luxury neither of them could really afford to have more often during the buzzling hours of the day. Not with their responsibilities as gym leaders, and Piers’ responsibilities towards his music career to boot.

Still, Levyna picked up vibes. Bits and pieces of the thoughts and worries on his mind, despite her trying not to listen in on his thoughts out of respect. However, hearing the thoughts of others was something she couldn’t fully block out without her headphones. Still, maybe if she asked it right she could offer some help?

"You seem worried."

"Same goes for you."

… Fair enough. While Piers didn’t share her telepathic abilities, he seemed to know better than anyone else when something was bothering Levyna- maybe it was some body language thing that she never really seemed to understand as it was something she didn’t particularly needed to focus on herself.

Levyna was never too sure how she felt about Piers’ ability to tell when something was up with her. She knew that sounded bad coming from someone who could literally read minds if she didn’t try her best to block out thoughts that weren’t hers, but still. "You're in the major league, Piers. Does… Does it bother you to be a major league gym?"

"I don’t know. Does it bother you to be a minor league player this year?”

"Not particularly... In the background maybe, but... you know what I'm like."

"Mhh… Actually, it’s more… It’s Marnie. She’s at the age where she's ready to take on the gym challenge, so…"

"She'll do great."

“I know. That’s not what I’m worried about. Just.. letting her go, I guess. Letting her go and travel Galar all by herself, cause I’m stuck here being part of the gym challenge she’s going to take.”

Levyna nodded, very lightly patting his shoulder to try and offer sympathy. It was no secret that Piers was protective over Marnie and wanted her safe, especially as he had been more of a parent figure to her than just an older brother. Levyna could only imagine it was hard for him to let her go and spread her wings even if it was the best thing to do for her.

Another silence fell between them as she withdrew her hand to go back to petting Illusion, hoping she had at least given him some comfort.

“… You just want to be there for her when she battles, huh?”

“Yeah. Wish I could be.”

“I don’t think she’s going to hold that against you. She knows you have responsibilities you can’t shake, no matter how much you wish you could. Plus, well, I don’t have siblings, but I bet it’s going to be fun for her to try and beat you on your home turf.”

Piers gave a slight amused huff. Levyna did have somewhat of a point there. He’d be lying himself if he said he wasn’t looking forward to try and beat his little sister himself, and knew she would put up a great fight against him as well. And for Levyna to have so much faith in Marnie making it far into the competition anyway meant a lot to him.

He knew his sister would make it far. But to hear that same faith in her from someone else was nice.

However, that didn’t explain something else that was on his mind. He looked at her, watching as she silently petted the Espeon in her lap. The purrs from the pokemon were the only noises that broke the peaceful silence between them.

He decided to first place a hand upon her upper arm, much like she had offered a similar kind of affection while they spoke of his worries. “So… why are you here, then? I know something's on your mind, Lev. And unlike you I can't exactly peek in to see what's going on. You can tell me anything, you know?"

She looked at the hand that ever so gently had been placed on her upper arm. She wondered if he even knew how much his slight touches calmed down her racing mind.

".... It's nothing. Nothing huge, anyway. Just too many thoughts making the process of actually shutting down my brain and getting some damn sleep incredibly hard and... I mean this in the best way possible, but Spikemuth is.. calm. quiet. I can actually hear myself think around here. I know how that's not something necessarily positive though. Makes me feel like a wandering Absol."

"Didn't realise disaster omens came in hues of purple."

That drew a small laugh out of her as she lightly swatted at his shoulder, fully aware that it was just a joke between friends.

"I'm glad you can find some peace and quiet here, Lev. At least until the gym challenge starts, I suppose."

"Yeah."

They sat there together for quite a while, just talking about the upcoming gym challenge and the differences between the major league qualifications and leader responsibilities in comparison to those of a minor league gym, talking about Marnie and the journey she was soon about to make.

And talking about just anything in between that came to their minds until rays of the sun slowly started to creep through the cracks of the ceiling that kept the whole of Spikemuth protected from the cold weather blowing around route 9. With the hours slowly creeping towards the daylight, Levyna decided it was about time for her to go home and get some rest there. Even just a light nap would help her get through the rest of the day.

Illusion left her lap as she gave even the slightest motion that she wanted to get up. She patted down her clothes a little to make sure there were no weird folds from the way she had been sitting, readjusted her gloves and pulled her fingers through her long blond hair to push it back into shape. She thanked Piers for keeping her company, which he assured was no big deal as he thanked her as well for doing the same for him.

As Levyna told him to take care, she started to walk towards the main entrance of the city. She halted, however, as she got a few steps onto the gym floor where Piers usually held his battles or kept his audience during concert. She bit her lower lip for a moment, thinking about something else she had been wanting to tell him. "Piers-" she started, turning back around towards where he still sat, and immediately held back what she wanted to say. He looked up at the mentioning of his name, looking at her curiously.

"Hmm?"

".... Let me know if there's ever anything I can do for you, okay? You... help me with so much of my problems, and I know you don't do it so I owe you but... I want to help you if you need me to."

"... Thanks. I'll keep that in mind."

With that they said their goodbyes for then, and Levyna walked along the main road before leaving Spikemuth through the main entrance. Standing out on route 9, she sighed before pressing her back against one of the brick pillars that held the shutters in place. She stared down at Illusion who had followed her along, sat down beside her and now seemed to be disappointedly glaring at her.

".... Don't you judge me," she muttered.

"Let's just go home. I have to get some rest before starting the day, anyhow. Hmm… Maybe I could try to visit Milo somewhere in between my breaks. Speaking to him would be nice.”

Illusion just purred in agreement as he followed his trainer home.

 I said, ooh, I'm blinded by the lights. No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch

Meowth: Which evil organization is your favourite?

I think I will have to say Magma and Aqua! I have very fond memories of RSE, though I remember distinctly as a child I was disappointed that when I got Ruby I HAD to be on Team Aqua’s side when I liked Magma more but I liked the color RED better so I HAD to get Ruby!!

But now I like them both equally. I think they’re fun and I especially love how they were fleshed out a little more by ORAS!

Mewtwo: Who is your most powerful Pokemon?

UHH I’m gonna go off of SWSH here since it’s most recent. Probably my Centiskorch, lovingly named Scalpel. (: Or my Inteleon, Onion, who I also love.

Togetic: What Pokemon makes you the most happy?

Ok so I’m biased towards my favs here, so I’m going to say Sizzlipede and Wooper, however Gen 2 is a HUGE comfort for me, so every Johto Pokemon makes me feel that way too. Every single one.

Wooper: What do you like more, battles or contests?

My tied for first favorite Pokemon. ^_^

That’s a tough one! There’s things I enjoy about both, and I’ve found strategizing for gym battles really fun now, but contests, once again, I have very fond memories of RSE and I had a lot of fun doing them. I’m gonna say a tie!

Raikou: Who is your favourite character in the anime?

While Ash isn’t my FAVORITE, I will defend him to the death because he is my SON and I CARE HIM!!

I really love what the did with Whitney in it. Even though I tend to lean towards the spoiled brat characters, it was cuuute how they made her a farm girl.

At some point I was actually watching through the whole thing and stopped in the middle of Johto so I need to get back to that...

Entei: What is your dream team?

Sizzlipede, Wooper, Jellicent, Beheeyem, Skiploom, and Swampert.

Special mentions to Gligar, Skorupi, and Flaaffy. ;_;

Groudon: Who is your least favourite Pokemon of each type?

INCREDIBLY mean but let’s see. Please keep in mind I don’t hate any of these Pokemon, and some of them I actually like a great deal, these are just the ones that I have no strong attachments to or the designs just don’t vibe so well with my tastes. Pretend it says least favorites.

Let my tell you putting Rhyperior on here made me IMMENSELY sad because I am a big Rhyhorn and Rhydon fan. Choosing a least favorite bug type was physically painful. Metapod I’m sorry I promise I love you.

I will say Ice was easy only because I ADORE bergmite and avalugg is a very disappointing evolution to me. U_U

Darkrai: Have you ever dreamed of Pokemon? What was it about?

Yes, last night. Murkrow was real and I pet it. (:

Zoroark: Would you be a Pokemon trainer, breeder, coordinator, etc? What would you look like?

I made a Gym Leadersona but I’m not gonna say gym leader because realistically? I don’t think I would be one, it’s just fun to imagine.

I would want to be a Pokemon researcher, so I would probably be one In Training, probably with a focus on bug or water types. Ideally I would want to look like a mad scientist while doing this.

Pokemon (Galar) AU - Gym Leaders

I needed to talk about something a bit more simple, before I take on the second part of the canon character’s future within “Shokugeki no Kimiko”. 

I’ve shared this information with Kana yesterday already and I thought I could share it here. 

So meep, in Pokemon (Galar) AU the Gym Leaders are the Elite 10 characters, safe for Erina who’s a Challenger (and also heir to this AU’s Macro Cosmos, but thats something I still have to think about in detail) and Eishi, who’s not Gym Leader but Champ (obviously). I’d like to say though that I matched the gym leaders more after the cities where I could picture specific characters in, rather than concerning their Elite 10 Ranking. 

First Gym Leader - Turffield

The first city with an arena to take on is Turffield. The Gym Leader to be meet here is Satoshi Isshiki.

The reason I chose Isshiki is because him and Milo are literally the same person It’s a city surrounded by lots of green and lots of farms in the end and we know how much Isshiki loves his Polar Star Farm. Also, much like Milo, he’d hold back against the challengers (like he held back in his cook-off with Soma) which is the reason why he was chosen to be the first one to face.

He gives out the Grass-Badge and faces the challengers with Grass-Pokemon. However in his free time, surprisingly to many, he does like to train the Fire as well as the Flight Type as well. 

The first Pokemon he ever caught was Gossifleur, which later of course evolved into Eldegoss. 

Second Gym Leader - Hulbury

The Port-Town Hulbury is the place where Arena Challengers face off against Somei Saito and his numerous Fish-Pokemon. 

Somei specializes in Sushi in the end, which always makes me associate with, well, fish and therefore water. So yeah, that lead to me assigning him the Port Town. 

He gives out the Water-Badge and, as I said, the Team he confronts challengers with consists of Water-Pokemon. Outside the Arena-Challenge he does also train Rock and Fighting Types though. 

His first Pokemon was a Goldeen which is now a Seaking. 

Third Gym Leader - Motostoke

Motostoke obtains the third Arena to tackle and it’s where you have to face Terunori Kuga. 

I pretty much chose this for him mainly because in the game this is also where you face the Fire Gym Leader and I picture Kuga as nothing else but a Fire Gym Leader. It’s a very industrial town in the end which easily relates to, you know, coal and steam and all that. 

So yeah, Kuga gives out the Fire-Badge!

His first Pokemon ever was a Sizzlipede, which is now a Centiskorch.

Fourth Gym Leader - Stow-On-Side

Stow-On-Side is where the Arena Challengers take on the fourth Gym Leader, Tosuke Megishima. 

In my eyes, Stow-On-Side’s aesthetic perfectly match a Ground Type Gym Leader which is a type I could see Megishima working with. Also, I don’t know, Stow-On-Side just generally gives me Megishima-Vibes. I’d like to point out that in this AU, Megishima is the one to refuse using Dynamax instead of the Gym Leader of Spikemuth. 

Megishima gives out the Ground-Badge and confronts Challengers with a Ground-Type Focused Team. I like to think he also does train some other types in his free time but I haven’t decided which yet ovo;; But I’m leaning to Steel and maybe Bug or Normal?

His first Pokemon was a Hippopotas which is not a Hippowdon. 

Fifth Gym Leader - Ballonlea

Ballonlea is home to the Gym in which Momo Akanegakubo resides. 

Ballonlea is very magical and has huge fairytale-vibes. Whenever Momo cooks, there’s also much Fairytale imagery going on (e.g. She was shown as Red Riding Hood, she was compared to the Fairy Godmother from “Cinderella”, when eating her food the judges imagined themselves turning into pixies etc.) Also, given that Fairy-Pokemon are for the most part very cute and all, I can definitely see the cuteness-obsessed Momo training the Fairy-Type. 

So yes, Momo hands out the Fairy-Badge. 

Her first Pokemon was a Milcery, which is now an Alcremie. 

Sixth Gym Leader - Circhester

Circhester is where you face the sixth Gym Leader, Nene Kinokuni. 

Circhester has something a little rustically but still very beautiful to it in my opinion (it’s my favorite city actually) and I love it’s snowy atmosphere. Given how Nene does have her rustical sides and also can certainly be seen as frosty, I can perfectly picture her as the gym leader of this town. 

Nene hands out the Psycho-Badge and faces Arena Challengers with a Psycho-Specialised Team. She’s known to have a great talent for Ice Pokemon as well though and trains them privately. 

Her first Pokemon ever was a Hatenna, which is now a Hatterene. 

Eight Gym Leader - Spikemuth

Spikemuth is the eight city to encounter and it’s home to the Arena where the Challengers have to face of against Etsuya Eizan. 

Out of the Elite 10 members, the Toned-Down-Yakuza-Man just fits the dark, grim alleyway aesthetics the best I’d say. He’s shady. He fits into this town, change my mind. Something for this AU though is that Spikemuth does in fact have a Gym and it’s also a bit bigger than in the game. I like the idea that in this AU, it’s not a city that’s without resources, but more of a city thats truly plagued with a really high crime rate(?). It’s basically survival of the fittest in this city. If you can’t defend yourself, you’re going to go down.

Anyway, I hope that made sense, but well Eizan gives out the Dark-Badge. He does also have knowledge around the Steel and Poison Type (or maybe Electric...I could picture both, not sure yet) though.

His first Pokemon was a Nickit, which is now a Thievul. 

Ninth Gym Leader - Hammerlocke

Hammerlocke has the last Arena the Challengers have to master and it’s where they meet the strongest out of the Gym Leader, Rindou Kobayashi. 

In the game this is the spot where you face the Dragon-Type Gym Leader in the end and I can most perfectly see Rindou working with Dragon Pokemon. Also, she’s the most epic to face off against last before having to take on Eishi, so there’s that. 

Her first Pokemon was an Axew now a Haxorus.

You know I gotta go w/ this bc mood rn.

Ever Grande City at sunset - it was Hoenn’s turn to hold the annual Pokemon League Ball, and the humidity and smell of sea salt led to a sultry atmosphere in the grand ball room. The formality that usually came with these events had been forgone by the heat, a casual vibe present in the attendees rather than one of luxuriousness. The large doors had been propped open to allow the ocean breeze to waft in, and many guests had chosen to entertain themselves on one of the balconies to watch the sun set over the water. Sunlight glinted off of diamond necklaces and fancy watches - things that seemed to be in such contrast to the simple sundresses and loose button-ups donned by many. 

Karen leaned against the elegant balcony railing, a tropical drink in one hand and a contented look upon her face. The sea breeze played with her locks and tickled her neck - those things felt nice. Coming to Hoenn always brought sensations to her that she couldn’t get back in Johto, and in comparison to Ever Grande, the Indigo Plateau always felt...boring, lacking. It was always pleasant to just be able to enjoy the vacation. Even surrounded by gym leaders, other elites, champions…having a free moment alone to take in the sights was like a breath of fresh air. Of course, she’d mingled with many by this point, and fully intended to do more once the sun went down. But for now, she just wanted to watch as the sky faded from orange to deep purple. Preferably without interruption. 

A sigh of happiness emerged from her throat but soon faded, much like the colors of the sky as the sun began its descent. A hand on her shoulder, a rushed voice.

“Karen, where were you? I was looking for you everywhere!”

She shut her eyes and turned around to face him. “Well, obviously I’ve been right here.” She should have never agreed to this.

“Okay....but can you tell me next time you go off? I mean, you agreed to be my date, right?”

Will’s brows were furrowed with genuine distress, but she knew it wasn’t out of concern for her well-being right now. At times, sure. It was like that. But a big event like this? She could always count on him trying to make everyone aware that they were close. Which...was fine. But, sometimes she really needed a breather from that closeness.

“Yeah,” she replied, trying to hide the bitterness in her voice “I did, but, I just needed a minute for myself. I wanted to watch the sunset.”

“But...you can watch the sunset every day. Don’t you wanna come dance with me?”

“Will...” She was going to try and let him down easily. Just explain to him that for like, ten minutes, she wanted to stand out here, drink her cocktail, and focus on how the suns rays made stars sparkle across the water. 

He grabbed her hand and gave a smile. “C’mon Karen, it’ll be a lot more fun inside - everything’s just starting to lighten up in there. I’m almost done with my drink anyway - we can go get mo-”

“WILL.” Her voice was firm, and a few people nearby turned to see what was going on. Will could feel his neck and cheeks turning red with embarrassment. 

Karen had grabbed his shoulders, holding him steady. “It’s not all about you.” She knitted her brows, her eyes focused straight through his mask. For a moment, she simply held him that way before finally loosening her grasp and letting out a breath. “Okay?” Her voice switched to a softer tone and she dropped her hands.

“I know you’re excited and all, and I’m not asking for much. I just...yeah, I get to see the sunset at home, but it’s not the same. It’s not over the ocean or anything like that. Sometimes...I just want to be able to be alone for a bit and take it all in.”

Will looked defeated, staring out at the water.

“Is that okay?” she asked quietly. “It’s not like I’m going anywhere. Trust me, after the sun goes down I’ll be ready to party.” She grinned at him, “Gotta let this drink hit after all, so I can be prepared to let all my moves loose.” She winked and wiggled her hips, causing Will to laugh.

“Oh, yeah,” he said playfully, “I know those moves. I think everyone else needs time to prepare for them too. I really don’t think they’re ready.” He cocked his head. “Honestly, not sure if they’ll ever be.”

Karen lifted her hand and chuckled, narrowing her eyes at him and growing quiet before turning around to face the ocean again. She could still feel him standing nearby and turned her head. “I know I said I wanted to be alone, but...honestly, I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to watch it with me.” Her voice was sincere. 

Will stepped up next to her, smirking.

As the sun went down neither of them spoke - in fact, everyone on the balcony had grown silent. The sight was peaceful and beautiful, and the ball’s attendees had all fallen for the awe of it. After tonight, it’d be a long while before they were all back in Hoenn together.

As the top of the sun fell beneath the waves, Karen slid her hand into Will’s, and he straightened. This was the kind of thing Karen truly liked - next time he’d take more care to pay attention. 

Once the sun had finally gone down, there was a loud celebratory cheering - everyone was ready for fun, drinks, and dancing. Karen tightened her grip around Will’s hands and turned to run into the ballroom, dragging him along and grinning at him. 

Now she was ready to get close.

anyway,

prompto is probably really big into pokemon contests! for this reason i think he’d be the one to have a pikachu! he loves dressing her up!!

i’ve said this before but i also think prompto has an eevee that hasn’t evolved bc he’s just chill to let her do that whenever she’s feelin the vibe. for this reason i’m leaning towards her evolving into a glaceon or a leafeon. like, prompto’s just out adventuring and surprise!! his eevee is different now!! good job eevee!!

i think gladio and iris both help out their family at a pokemon daycare, but that they also have a big preference on fighting type pokemon

they each have a machamp and they do coordinated poses 

they also really like cute pokemon so you’ll see this beefed dude with tats, training an intimidating hariyama, and on his shoulder is just.. a little minun. maybe he has a chimecho floating around his head. very cute!!

the intersection of cute and fighting type is iris’ bewear, who strikes fear into the hearts of all trainers who challenge her

also gladio and iris probably sew clothes for their pokemon (and prompto’s pikachu)

ignis probably names all his pokemon after spices

he also makes them pokepuffs to their specific preferences

noctis has a poochyena he got from his dad (who has a mightyena) and when he goes fishing the poochyena just chills!! he likes to surf!!

regis is probably a famous gym leader/champion in this, but noctis is honestly just happy to fish

alternatively noctis has a meowth. this leads to antics when his meowth keeps trying to eat his precious magikarp!!!

luna probably has never used a pokeball in her life. like, if this is following my concept of her as a goth lady in white ghost collector, i think she’d just be happy to let her pokemon come and go!! and they’re really loyal to her!! she probably has a very clingy mimikyu!!

aranea has a skarmory it just feels right. it just feels right.

Now that you've played swsh, what are ur thots

i honestly enjoyed it!! not sure how the dlc will influence my opinion but currently my ranking of “new gen” pokemon games goes sumo>swsh>xy (i’m not including pre-gen 6 as a point of comparison because it wouldn’t be fair on swsh). the gameplay still doesn’t quite capture that golden era pokemon (gens 3-5) vibe imo - it feels like they streamlined the game a little too much. i didn’t feel like i was going through galar on my own terms since like xy there are literally two optional side areas and both are locked behind surf but unlike xy the locations all felt transient and kinda samey. for instance there are technically four unique snow routes but it feels like 2 (that whole slog around the sixth gym then the mountain pass before wyndon) when actually going through it.

that said, the major characters are far better than in xy - swsh’s gym leaders are more fun to battle against and dynamax is surprisingly enjoyable. my only critique there is that i wish the signature gym mons still posed a challenge after their dynamax ended instead of the whole strategy being smack you with g-max stab move. i want to see gen 5-level trickiness again!! is that too much to ask! i am disappointed that the “elite 4″ thing feels so similar to gen 7′s “the kahunas/captains are also the elite 4″ deal. at its best swsh is really cool but at its bad points it kinda feels like someone slapped the alola formula onto kalos without any consideration of individuality.

the new gen 8 pokemon are…hm. it just be because they’re so new, but i’m honestly not a fan of a lot of designs??? they all feel pretty samey (humanoid with a dark colour scheme) but samey with a pokemon design type that i’m not fond of anyway. i don’t think there are enough new pokemon to justify that kind of repetition - gen 6, for its tiny pool, managed to be incredibly diverse, and gen 7 really only had a couple overlapping-feeling designs. looking back, gen 5 had a lot of that kind of design too, but also gen 5 had such a massive amount of pokemon that it didn’t feel egregious. my fav gen 8 mons are probably alcremie, cursola, eiscue, the snom line, falinks, and polteageist. grapploct has an honourable mention for being fun to use but its design is neutral to me. overall i prefer the design of alolan forms to galarian forms even if galarian forms had more unique things going for them like new evos and stuff. idk all the new pokemon lean too heavily on that black/grey humanoid blueprint and i would have preferred to see some variety.

the soundtrack slaps because when doesn’t it. i’d say it reaches higher highs than gen 7 but much lower lows. fav themes are hop’s battle theme, the gym leader theme (we stan a danganronpa scrum debate theme), stow-on-side’s theme, turffield’s theme, and marnie’s battle theme. side note but marnie’s theme absolutely sounds like a homestuck strife track and you can’t deny it (to be precise, like a mashup of the first part of cascade and atomic bonsai).

i already discussed the story in terms of themes but i will say this game suffers from kalos syndrome but worse - where xy’s midgame was horribly rushed (gyms 3 through 6 are such a blur in a regular playthrough) swsh instead saves all the plot moments until the end and then rushes through it at a breakneck pace. you get no time to digest a single thing that happens. it’s just: here’s an event, now the next one, now the next one, now we’re escalating, now we’re done. i get they were going for that Big Reveal Moment where rose blows up the championship stadium’s dynamax spot just before the final battle against leon, but we needed more investment in the lore. like we already knew team yell wasn’t evil (yet another sumo copypaste oof) so they should have reworked the plot to have sonia ask the player to help her check out some historical sites/archives in a couple side towns (kinda like celestic town in dppt) where she’s threatened by a mystery group of steel type users who then turn out at the end of the game to be rose’s corporate lackeys. the finale still plays out kind of the same except we know more about the lore and eternatus is actually built up to instead of…that mess. other than that i do think the whole gym circuit is as well paced as you can get in a truncated region like galar. just wish the lore side had been given a crumb more attention. like, they could’ve just worked in zacian/zamazenta without the whole darkest day thing and had a tightly focused game on striving to be champion (a la classic kanto) and fleshed out the rivals a little more to make up for it but you really get the sense tpc/game freak wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

overall i’ll give swsh a 7/10. very good, but if they’d taken their time a little more with the pacing and committed to the type of story they wanted to tell instead of cramming everything in haphazardly to appeal to both classic Catch Em All Be The Best fans and golden-era Mythical God Pokemon Threatens To Destroy The World fans, i think it could become really good. if they nail the dlc i can see swsh being on par with usum in the end - not quite as well written as the original sumo, but really fun games you’d actually want to sit through and 100% complete.
